Went to a Lana v. Miley drag show the other day
First of all, when I heard this was a show I shit my pants. Like I never get to hear Lana in the club, and to have her songs performed multiple times by drag queens- like… babes I’m there.
Second of all, I chastised the doorman for misspelling her name 😂 I said “now who is that? Bc it’s not mother.” Whoever the artist was put their heart and soul into that door sign, and even though the ambition was there… 😬 it’s like that reporter who said “I’m standing here with Taylor Smith.”
Third of all, the Lana stans showed UP! This was like the day after A&W (or so) and people knew the words already. The Miley team and the queen’s performances were fun, and they kept saying “and with that performance Miley is in the lead.” But then a Lana performance would happen, and well, y’all know our fanbase. I think we ended up winning the night.
My only qualm was we got like only B2D/Paradise. Love that album, but I would’ve loved to have seen a wider array of albums (like Miley had Hannah Montana->Plastic Hearts). The song selection wasn’t the best. The only two I can really remember were Gods&Monsters and Body Electric. Like great songs, but I wanna see a drag queen lip synch NFR, Sad Girl, Radio, Dark Paradise, Brooklyn Baby, Video Games, Heroin, happiness is a butterfly… something that is kinda anthem-like/has performance factor.
The only song we got that wasn’t original Lana was High By The Beach, and that was THE BEST performance of the night. Super campy.
I’d love to see more shows like this!! Have you ever been to a show of the nature?

A few highlights of activity over the past week across the Lamden community:

# News

  • The $YETI team has released a new website so users can quickly and easily swap their $MARMITE tokens for $YETI. The team is planning to distribute the first rewards to members on April 2 at 8pm GMT (to allow time for swapping); rewards will continue to be distributed once every 24 hours to members that hold 50 million+ $YETI tokens. In addition, 1% of the tax from buys/sells will be used to regularly rain/snow within the $YETI Telegram chat.
  • $YETI is now a verified token on the Rocketswap exchange.
  • crosschainer, developer of the Taurus NFT marketplace, is also working on a new PvP role-playing game where you fight monsters and other players to collect equipable and sellable loot (NFTs). A short video demonstration shows how players can equip an LNS NFT to assign as their character’s name.
  • The latest Rocketswap Leaderboard competition has wrapped up. Stay tuned for winner distributions and the next competition!

# AMA

Each week the Lamden team will answer questions from the community. Please submit your questions to the community manager (deadline is each Wednesday to give us sufficient time to answer). This week’s AMA begins now…

Rafael Nejati asks, “How much is the liquidity and why can't we use $10k from it for marketing purposes?”
We welcome all ideas however our focus at the moment is getting our community nodes and DAO fully operational. Marketing is not an immediate priority but understand this is important to members of the community and worth re-exploring at a later time. In the meantime, we’re dedicated to maintaining and growing our various social channels.

Nmln asks, “Any information regarding the wallet? Is it still getting delisted from Chrome in June?”
The Lamden Vault wallet is a beloved tool and the recent feedback from the community has been invaluable. We’re very happy to report that Allen has begun updating the Vault wallet for the transition to Manifest V3. We don’t have specific dates to share at the moment but we’ll continue to keep the community informed.

PineTreeV asks, “What tokens are surely to be added on Lamden Bridge or being truly considered? What is the criteria for a token to be added on the Bridge and will they be added if said conditions are met?”
The priority is rolling out community nodes. Unfortunately we can’t commit to adding tokens to the bridge at this time. If and when that changes, we’ll definitely share that information with the community.

Gary D asks, “So what is the team going to do to attract new developers?”
We are currently running advertisements on Twitter but are holding off on doing active recruitment until the community nodes are fully implemented. We want to make sure we’re giving a good first impression to new members.

PineTreeV asks, “Will the team hire developers for needed changes to the system like the Lamden Wallet, nodes, or any new features that might be needed? Or is that for the community to decide on with the DAO after decentralization (community nodes fully added)?”
The team will continue to support and maintain the protocol. Jeff is laser-focused on resolving the remaining bugs needed to roll out the community nodes and DAO. Other projects like PixelWhale and LamdenLink have been deprioritized until he can finish getting the chain decentralized.
Additionally, we encourage others to develop new tools like a wallet to give users options. Competition makes us all strive to do better, drives innovation, and ensures the community always has a choice.

thatguy asks, “Who does the Team consist of these days?”
Developers include Stu, Jeff and Allen. Mykyta did great work on our node tech and has now moved to a part-time contributor role.

thatguy asks, “What is the overall feel of the team towards further progress of Lamden and its future?”
We love Lamden, always have and always will!

thatguy asks, “If team believes in the future of Lamden and are making steps to achieve a brighter future, is a Buy Back being considered at the ultra low prices as the team can build up future Lamden Labs funds for further growth and development once Lamden sentiment improves?”
No buy backs are planned.

Chief Yeti asks, “In the last AMA you mentioned you will restore WETH liquidity ‘once time frees up’ but surely replacing liquidity takes about 15 seconds so what is the hold up?”
It’s still on our radar to enable the WETH bridge. The WETH contracts still need to be updated and the LamdenLink test environment was on Kovan (which no longer exists). So it’s unfortunately not as easy as just flipping a switch. Jeff’s time is focused on rolling out the community nodes and DAO first and foremost. Addressing these other priorities will come next. Thanks for everyone’s patience!
Thanks again for everyone’s great questions this week!

Why Lamden?
It’s fast, with tiny transaction fees, and a developer-focus. Built from the ground up to remove technical hurdles and empower developers. Choose to program in Python, or your preferred language, and significantly reduce the time to produce your dApps. Developers are further incentivized since 90% of each transaction fee is returned to the dApp creator. $TAU has a maximum supply of 248 million and is deflationary with 1% of each transaction fee burned. Lamden is paving its own path as the premier Python-based layer-1 blockchain platform. With access to a potential developer base of over 10 million, the sky is the limit. Welcome to Lamden - let's build together!

2023.03.31 18:38 Narrow_Muscle9572 The Lawn Killer - The Island

By the time I was sixteen Linda got my dad to send me off to what they thought was boarding school. In reality it was a compound where the Order of the Wren would begin training me so I could be a full-fledged member.
During this time D and I would talk on the phone a few times a week. Since the Order had me move around so often I had to be the one doing the calling. These conversations didn't last as long as I would have liked because there was no privacy in the hotel rooms we would frequently stay at.
By we, I mean the two experienced hunters I would have to learn from. Their names were Williams and King. Neither did much talking and I could tell they didn't like having me around. Not that I could blame them. I was inexperienced and they had better things to do than to hold my hand and explain things to me. That meant that when we had to go somewhere to slay some monstrosity, I would have to wait in the hotel we were staying at.
I was bored out of my mind most of the time when we were traveling the country but I would learn to love those dull moments soon enough.
Williams was alright even though he smelt like a chimney, but at least he was patient with me and kind. However, King was crazy, cynical and had an unhealthy obsession with explosives. I asked him about it once and he told me “In this line of work, some things are vulnerable to fire, monk root, silver and stuff, right? But in my experience nothing can survive when twenty pounds of homemade explosives go boom.”
The days passed slowly so I would kill time by sharpening rune covered blades that would hurt all sorts of monsters, making specialized ammo, documenting everything I thought was noteworthy so future generations of members could learn from us, reading, playing cards and waiting for Farsight to call.
I asked Williams about Farsight on a few occasions and he told me that they were high ranking members of the Order who essentially ran everything. Since they were a secretive bunch, who they were and how they knew where to send all the teams was a mystery.
Most people I spoke to said they thought the biggest clue on how Farsight operated was the history of the Order itself.
Learning about the Order was a top priority during my studies at the compound. The long and the short is: back in the day there were some nerds that saved a bunch of books and scrolls from a fire that was about to consume a library named after some guy named Alexander. Lots of these people died as a result of saving what they could and because of their sacrifice the Order knows how to dispose and kill monsters.
My studies were not limited to history either. Most of the time was spent doing military drills, however on a few occasions I got to try my hand at magic. That being said, magic welders are rare and I was not one of them.
The first time I ever saw any action we were waiting somewhere in Ohio when the phone rang.
King answered the phone, waited and responded with ‘yes’, ‘no’ and finally ‘understood’ before hanging up.
“What did they say?” asked Williams.
King sighed and shook his head. “We got a plane to catch,” King answered as he slapped his knees and stood up.
“Where are we going?” I asked.
“Alaska.”
“What's in Alaska?” Williams asked before I could.
“Farsight got wind of some town that went missing.”
“A town went missing?” I asked, pinching my eyebrows together in confusion.
“It happens,” King shrugged. “Roanoke, Waterway… Etcetera.”
“Waterway?” I asked. “Never heard of it.”
“That's because it disappeared,” Williams answered before turning to King. “Did Farsight tell you what was there?”
King gave him a look before returning to pack up his things. “Do they ever?”
Getting to our destination meant getting in three different single engine planes that all took off and landed on someone's field instead of an airport. Each of the planes were held together by duct tape and prayers. After that, we rode in a boat for an hour.
The island we were assigned to go to was small and covered with equal parts trees, brush and rocks. There weren't many houses and the nicest one of them was a doublewide trailer in poor condition.
“Where is everyone?” I asked as we made our way off the dock and onto land.
“I don't like this,” Williams added as he took out the HSD (Handheld Supernatural Detector. It sort of looked like half of a bike handle covered in copper wire, black electricians tape and at the end there are two antennas). “Nothing” Williams said after waving it around a little while.
“Keep it activated” King said, his shotgun at the ready as he led us through what passed as a town on this island.
“Maybe the signal is too weak” I suggested.
“Might be,” King responded. “Might not even be supernatural?”
“What else could it be?” I asked.
“Disease? Jobs disappearing” King answered.
“Doesn't look like there were lots of jobs here anyways” Williams pointed out, waving the HSD in different directions but not picking up anything. “Besides, Farsight isn't wrong about these things” he added as King led us to the first house and walked in.
“How many people lived here?” I asked.
“No more than thirty,” King answered.
We kept checking the houses, but time after time there were no clues to tell us what happened to the island's occupants. There were no signs of struggle, the clothes were still on the hangers and there was even food that sat around for so long that whatever it once was became mostly mold.
“So what's the plan?” I asked after reaching the last house before the forest started. I was hoping that they would say something that involved a hot shower. After the trip out here I felt that I could have used one.
Or two.
“It's going to get dark soon,” King answered, looking at the sunset. “And since we don't know what we are dealing with, we should find a place to stay for the night.”
“Where?” I asked.
“Churches are safer than most places” Williams suggested, pointing to a squat, square building.
The door was unlocked so we let ourselves in. The first thing King and Williams did was to see if we were alone. They checked the confessionals, the back office, the bathroom, under every pew and kept their eyes on the rafters.
King figured the safest part of the building was the back office, so we all went there. With the three of us it was cramped. I would have suggested staying in one of the houses, but it wouldn't have felt right sleeping in a strangers house when they were missing, besides, places of worship would provide safety. At least from some things.
On the desk that belonged to the priest was a newspaper and Williams picked it up to check the date. Something I would never have thought of doing, and saw that it was two months old.
“In a place like this, I wouldn't think they would get their news fresh off the press” King responded when Williams pointed this out.
“Still” Williams said. “That's a long time, even for way out here.”
When it came to claiming sleeping areas it was nearly impossible for all of us to be satisfied with the results. Not only was it crammed with all of us in the back office, but both men also suffered from night terrors.
By the time we all had our designated sleeping spots, Williams grumbled about being low on cigarettes and ordered me to run to the island's convenience store and “grab an armful.”
At first I protested, but they told me that since the island was abandoned it wasn't stealing.
It was my turn to grumble, but I did as I was told.
As I walked to the convenience store, I wondered how Farsight would react if they knew King and Williams sent me off by myself like this.
Pulling the door open to go inside, I was surprised to find that the store looked nearly the same as the one in Gray Hill. They had stuffed animals on the walls, pickled pig parts in glass jars, they even had the same off brand food items that I could never find anywhere other than home.
Excited, I raced to the cooler and found the same brand of ginger ale I loved so much. I sucked down one, feeling the carbonation reach up into my nose and burn like hell.
Once I loaded the rest of the bottles in my bag I went over to the counter and hopped over it to grab Williams his cigarettes.
After leaving the store I saw a truck parked out front of the church that wasn't there when I left. Feeling something was wrong I ducked behind a fence. Just in time too because a second later the door swung open and a group of people were dragging King and Williams to the truck.
The people seemed to be wearing the furs of all sorts of animals. From skunk to deer to bear and whatever else that lived on the island. At first I thought their faces were covered in dirt, however thanks to D’s alterations I could see that it was actually black rocks glistening in the dying light. Not only that but they were growing out of these people. One had a large piece coming straight up from behind his left collarbone, another had her face peppered with small rocks but the man who appeared to be their leader had one coming out of his eye socket.
King and Williams were shouting at the group, what they were saying I can’t repeat and if I cleaned it up it wouldn't be much of a sentence.
I stayed still and out of sight until the truck pulled away. Since I was only armed with the buck knife I kept on my belt at all times I wouldn’t be much help. Even less so if I was caught by whoever took the more experienced monster hunters.
As soon as the truck was out of sight I ran into the church to grab the weapons we brought with us. Both shotguns that were filled with special shells we made ourselves and our rune covered machetes.
Just as I was about to leave I remembered the backpack filled with explosives. When I scooped that up I took off in the direction I last saw the truck going.
I ran for about two miles before finally finding the truck which was parked in the middle of nowhere on the side of the road. Most of the journey was uphill, however thanks to what D did to me I had plenty of energy to spare.
It didn't take long for me to see that there were tracks that led into the woods and without thinking about it, I followed them. King and Williams needed my help.
The tracks were easy to follow considering there were six people plus King and Williams who were struggling with their abductors.
I had been tracking these people for fifteen or twenty minutes by the time I came across a rocky hill, and since rocks don't leave tracks, I thought I lost them. However, just then I saw a small cave entrance. Figuring that was where King and Williams were taken, I hustled up the hill to investigate, making sure I kept low and quiet.
When I got in the cave I thought my eyes would adjust, however it didn't. Inside was completely dark and there was no sound other than my own breathing and footfalls. I would come to learn later than caves are like that. Completely dark so even my eyes couldn't adjust and they muffle sounds.
After a short time of navigating down a narrow passageway by dragging my hand on the wall I saw a faint orange glow and slowly walked towards it, careful not to make any sound. As I drew closer, I heard a group of people chanting in a strange language that almost sounded like angry small dogs.
A few stalagmites and stalactites separated the passageway I was on from a large open area with small bonfires scattered around. The people who took King and Williams were circling a large black monolith that sat in the middle of the room and they seemed to be praying to it. To me the monolith resembled the rocks that grew out of the people.
“I’mma kill you” shouted a familiar voice about ten feet below where I stood. It was King. Both he and Williams had their hands tied behind them, around a rock. “Stem to stern, you hear that? You hear that?!”
As King was shouting, I figured I would have less of a chance at getting caught if I climbed down the steep cave wall instead of following the path. Thankfully I managed to get to them without making a sound that Kings yelling didn't muffle.
D made me a borderline superhero, and superheroes save people. So even though my heart was jumping out of my chest, that didn't stop me from doing what I had to do.
“Shh” I whispered to Williams as I put the handle of my knife in his still bound hand. “I’m leaving the bag of explosives behind you. The shotguns and your machete too.”
Williams didn't make a sound, but he nodded and started to cut the ropes.
King was still shouting to his abductors, masking my voice as I told Williams that I was going to buy them time by serving as a distraction.
Without waiting for a nod, I went back the way I came and started climbing. I was sure I was going to get caught when I caused a few rocks to fall, but then Williams started to yell, joining King to mask the sound.
After reaching the passageway I came from, I turned around to see Williams give me a slight nod. Then I shouted for everyone to hear.
“Your mom shaves her chest and you—”
I didn't get any further than that because the people hissed and ran towards me. Some climbed the wall I just did while others ran down the path I chose not to take in order to reach the two more experienced hunters.
Seeing how fast they were moving made me regret not thinking past this part of the plan.
I ran as fast as I could down the dark and narrow path I entered from. The entire time I could hear them behind me and I imagined that they were getting closer.
As soon as I got outside, it was dark and I made a split second decision to run to the coast. This would make it look like I was trying to get to a boat instead of buying the more experienced monster hunters some time. However every time I tried to head towards the beach a few of my pursuers would be in my way, forcing me to change course.
After what D did to me I was fast, not Olympic speed but it was safe to say I was faster than everyone I knew. So you can imagine my surprise when I saw that these people were keeping pace with me. If it was just one of them, I wouldn't have given it much thought, but all of them were. Even the fat and the old ones.
I tried coming up with answers that might help my chances if I had to fight these people, or should I say what these people became? The rocks gave them enhanced strength and speed, but other than that the clues I had were minimal. The rocks could have been anything from viral, extraterrestrial, interdimensional or even parasitic.
However it was safe to say that even if it was parasitic it was not demonic. If it was, the HSD would’ve picked it up.
If I knew what language these people were speaking, that would narrow the possibilities that much further.
I must have been running for about ten minutes before I realized three things at once. The first thing was these people were much faster than they were letting on and were just toying with me. The second was that I was being herded back to the cave and the third was that I was going to have to stop running and fight.
As soon as I stopped running, I pulled the machete out from its sheath and turned to face those who meant me harm.
They surrounded me like a pack of wolves, and like a pack of wolves they snapped their jaws and made sounds that reminded me of a group of angry tiny dogs barking. These people also attacked like wolves too because the ones behind me would be doing the attacking.
The first one tried to jump onto my shoulders but before she could wrap her arms and legs around me I quickly turned around and used her momentum to throw her into the others. Immediately another lept towards me and was met with a front kick, connecting right below the belly button.
That was when the third one, the one with the rock growing out of his eye, bit my hand.
I don't know who was more surprised, me because I was bit, or him because it cracked his teeth.
I recovered from the shock before he did and raised the machete up to cut off his head.
As I swung he lifted up his hand to block it. Even though I didn't take his head, I still managed to take his hand and half of his forearm.
If he felt pain he sure hid it well.
He swiped at me with his other hand and I leaned back to dodge it. He was fast though and managed to rake my cheek with his nails.
Before I could swing my weapon again, another jumped on my back and put me in a choke hold. The grip was tight and as I tried to free myself the others tackled me. Thankfully this loosened the grip around my neck. However I was on my back and the others were closing in.
I kicked one of my attackers in the knee so it broke and went backwards. This person didn't make a sound and I doubt they felt it.
One of them kicked me in the face and even though it didn't knock me out, it hurt like hell and made me see stars.
I swung my machete in a wide half circle, managing to open the belly of another.
That bought me some room but as I tried to stand up two more jumped on my back and took me to the ground. The rest all piled on top of me, snapping at me while growling and nipping at each other to get out of the way so they could get to me.
I really thought this was going to be how I was going to die, however just then all of them went limp and fell.
A fraction of a second later I heard an explosion coming from the cave.
As I layed there, in the bottom of the pile of bodies, it felt like my heart was going to explode. I was so close to dying, but I prevailed.
I won.
I let out a warcry that Otis would have been proud of and pushed the bodies off of me.
Standing up, I gave one of my attackers a kick for good measure. However it was like kicking a dried up hornets nest and the toe of my boot went right through. The only part that wasn’t brittle was the rocks that grew out of them.
Wiping my boots off in the grass, I heard shouting on the other side of the hill. As soon as I heard this I knew it was Williams and King and ran towards them, a large grin on my face.
“Hey” I yelled out happily when I saw them, but they didn’t seem to hear me and were yelling at each other. Not because they were angry, but because the explosion made them momentarily deaf.
“What?” King asked as he rubbed his ears.
“You’re an idiot,” Williams shouted.
“I can’t hear you,” King complained, pointing at his ears.
“Are you two okay?” I asked as I jogged closer to them.
Williams saw me in the corner of his eye and jumped. When he saw it was me a grin spread on his face. “Hey, you’re alive.”
“Of course I am.”
“What?” King shouted before turning around and seeing me.
“You saved us” Williams answered as he used his pinkie finger to rub deep in his ear.
“Damn,” King said as he took my chin in hand and turned my head to get a look at my face.
“It was nothing,” I answered.
With a closer inspection of my nose, King sucked air through his teeth. “Could've been worse, I guess.”
“It’s true what they said about you,” Williams yelled. “The Order is going to hear of this.”
“Hear of—-“ I started, nervously. “Did I do something wrong?”
“Wrong?” Williams asked loudly, his ears were still ringing.
“What are you saying?” King shouted.
“Did I do something wrong?” I asked, louder than before.
Williams and King looked at each other for a moment and there was a fleeting mischievous expression that came over their faces.
“Where's my cigarettes?” Williams asked sternly.
I didn't know what to say to this and stammered.
A smile grew on William's face and he walked past me. “Just playing with you, kid. Just playing with you.”
“You did good,” King said, placing his hand on my shoulder. “I think Farsight was right about you.”
“Right about me?” I asked. “What do you mean?”
King smiled. “You remember the first day of training?”
I nodded because dozens of kids jogged in formation for miles at five in the morning, sparring with blunt weapons, performing military drills, eating in the mess hall during mealtimes and sleeping in one of the bunkhouses that were hidden in the woods wasn't something I was likely to forget. “Why?”
“You remember that little test they gave you?”
I nodded. All of the questions involved how to dispose of one monster or another. Most of the monsters I never heard of, but as I filled the questionnaire out I remembered Otis’ wise words during my time mowing the lawn at Miss Luther's house: Gotta hit them with your bullets.
This was what I used to answer all the questions.
“Yeah, what about it?”
King squeezed my shoulder and his smile grew. “The Order was impressed and I don't know if I should tell you this or not, but… they think you're going to save the world.”

2023.03.31 18:37 Narrow_Muscle9572 The Lawn Killer - The Island

2023.03.31 18:36 Narrow_Muscle9572 The Lawn Killer - The Island

In response, two of their former classmates - Hoshino Ichika and Tenma Saki - use highly advanced suits originally intended as space suits to battle Amp as the brave warriors, Leoneeder. They are later joined by two additional members: Mochizuki Honami and Hinomori Shiho, former friends of Leoneeder and the siblings of the killed classmates out for revenge.
I like how fleshed out these characters are and how entwined their development is, even if half of the team doesn't join for an extended period. While they initially start out estranged and only connected by their desire for revenge, each are helped through their tribulations by each other's quirks until they reach the same conclusion that protecting their friendship is as powerful a motivation as defending the earth. it really shows how diverging life paths doesn't necessitate seperation. Ichika really shines here as leader, regardless of how Saki is the impetus for everything; watching her determination grow and bring her former friends together is a blast.
The villains don't really reach the same level though. The first load are simply brilliant characters; their rivalry with Leoneeder and their intrinsic humanity despite their transformation make for some compelling antagonists that later villains just can't keep up with. Once they're out of the picture (at least temporarily), Amp basically devolves into your classic monster of the week formula. At least Favour manages to keep up their mystery, with plenty of hints and no answers until just the right time to keep you invested. just don't expect much of a payoff at the end - with all the builder up he has, his actual backstory was bound to falter.
With that said, Yonsei Sentai leoneeder is a season ripe with potential. the fact it managed to introduce character later and keep them well developed is-
"Ah, KAITO. Rin and Len ate that ice cream you were saving."
Wh-What? Friends, how could you do this!?

2023.03.31 17:55 w0esies that one g1 episode

thinking about that one g1 episode with catty wanting to attend monster high as a student and we hear catty’s song “i just want to be a normal ghoul! be like my friends and go to school” at a CONCERT
and then she’s at school and she gets swarmed by fans… then one of the characters (frankie?) has this weird revelation that omg maybe catty just wants to be a normal student!!! like she doesn’t have a hit song about it😭😭
like did no one actually listen to what she was singing?? it’s so funny what the hell😭😭 especially frankie acting like she’s just made a scientific breakthrough like ghoul ??

2023.03.31 17:49 ZZ1Lord [Online][5e] [DoIP] [EU 7PM - Thursdays GMT+3] I will DM for you to fill the DM Shortage!

DISCLAIMER: MICROPHONE, WEBCAM AND A ACCOUNT ON DISCORD IS REQUIRED TO JOIN THIS CAMPAIGN. CAMPAIGN SESSIONS ARE 7PM - THURSDAYS GMT+3 WEEKLY!

In the Shortage of DMs in recent times, I offer the opportunity to host a game for those who want to be part of a small tabletop community, Where we can play a fun and healthy game! Players of All skill levels are welcome!
The game will first run with a session 0 where we will discuss characters and Introduce the world through the Port Town of Phlan and afterwards progress to the Dragon of Icepire Peak.
Short Summary of the Adventure:
Concept: Dragon of Icespire Peak is an adventure about a crew of brave and compassionate adventurers who will fight tooth and nail against the white dragon that prays on the village of Phandalin.
Aim: The adventurers take on quests that will lead them across the shores of the Sword Coast in preparation for the final confrontation against the White Dragon which will determine if they find glory in victory, or become bedding for the dragon's resting place.
Tone: The Forgotten Realms is a hopeful setting. The setting is light hearted at large but holds a lot muscle for action when the players scout for it!
Subject Matter: Dragon of Icepire Peak is designed to facilitate a fiction-first approach to typical dungeon delving/OSR-type of content. The latter means it’s about adventures that aim to be fun by focusing on player ingenuity and an unpredictability of events. To achieve that it asks for somewhat impartial judgement and openness to unforeseen outcomes.
The Forgotten Realms :
The world of the Forgotten Realms is one of high fantasy, populated by elves, dwarves, halflings, humans, and other folk. In the Realms, knights dare the crypts of the fallen dwarf kings of Delzoun, seeking glory and treasure. Rogues prowl the dark alleyways of teeming cities such as Neverwinter and Baldur's Gate. Clerics in the service of gods wield mace and spell, questing against the terrifying powers that threaten the land. Wizards plunder the ruins of the fallen Netherese empire, delving into secrets too dark for the light of day. Bards sing of kings, queens, heroes, and tyrants who died long ago.
On the roads and rivers of the Realms travel minstrels and peddlers, merchants and guards, soldiers and sailors. Steel-hearted adventurers from backcountry farmsteads and sleepy villages follow tales of strange, glorious, faraway places. Good maps and clear trails can take even an inexperienced youth with dreams of glory far across the world, but these paths are never safe. Fell magic and deadly monsters are the perils one faces when traveling in the Realms. Even farms and freeholds within a day's walk of a city can fall prey to monsters, and no place is safe from the sudden wrath of a dragon.
Session 0 - Defiance in Phlan :
Phlan, The Jeweled Port town of Moonsea, is a city in transition. Many groups compete for power, sometimes working together, but often at odds as schemes progress and alliances form and unravel. Thrown into this volatile mix is the Cult of the Dragon, a cabal of dragon-obsessed zealots whose plans go much deeper than the power struggles of mortals.
Unlike most other D&D Expeditions adventures, Defiance in Phlan is broken into five mini-adventures, each of which is designed for one hour of play.
While each mini-adventure takes place against the backdrop of the struggles in Phlan, none focus too closely on any of Phlan’s plots or sites. Each gives just a small taste of the deeper troubles in Phlan, instead focusing on giving the players a fun, quick mission that can be completed in less than an hour.
Session 1 - Dragon of Icepire Peak :
The frontier town of Phandalin is built on the ruins of a much older settlement. Hundreds of years ago, the old Phandalin was a thriving human town whose people were firmly allied with neighboring dwarves and gnomes. Then an orc horde swept through the area and laid waste to the settlement, and Phandalin was abandoned for centuries.
In the last three or four years, settlers from the cities of Neverwinter and Waterdeep have begun the hard work of reclaiming the ruins of Phandalin. The new settlement is home now to farmers, woodcutters, fur traders, and prospectors drawn by stories of gold and platinum in the foothills of the Sword Mountains. The arrival of a white dragon threatens to destroy all that they've worked to rebuild.

April Fool's Game
Happy April Fool's Day, y'all! In honor of this day of fun and tricks, I present to you my version of Three Truths and a Lie. Click on the image to see all 4 book covers in their high-class glory. Below are their blurbs, but one is completely manufactured by my fractured brain. Your goal is to pick out the fake.
Clearly, cheating is easy. Don't be a party pooper and peek. The prize for winning is a set of brand new…bragging rights. Good luck!

A law practiced for centuries, I have total control over every emotions and craving. Love does not exist…and Alia threatens all that I have attained. Giving in to Alia’s aching desires could unleash the suppressed beast lurking within me. Is it worth losing everything for this forbidden passion?
Alia Benson Passion-seeking, virgin female Earth Universal scientist. My literal dream man shows up, saves me and I become his acquisition. I belong to this big, smoking hot Chironian fighter. And my dreams bonded us before we met. For a girl who’s waited her whole life to find true love, knowing my dream guy doesn’t feel the same is heartbreaking. How can I break through his resistance and show Qutan that risking it all on me is worth it? ☆☆☆ Moments before a cataclysmic solar flare hits earth, a nearby ship of rippling, male warrior feline aliens rescue as many human survivors as possible even though it is an unsanctioned, forbidden mission. By decree of the Council, humans are sold as slaves or fated to be acquired by the rescuing warriors who will protect them. One hundred years after the decision to outlaw childbirth and move to a more humane form of procreation, the earth has very few females left. Most of those are unable to become pregnant, due to a faulty system. Trillionaires Bill, John, David and Steve band together and bid on an auction for one of the few “breeding females” left. They plan it out as coldly as they would any other kind of business deal, knowing that down the road, they will eventually sell off any daughters born of the union.
April, a young woman sheltered from the outside world, is told by her father that he needs money and will be selling her at an auction to the highest bidder. He does his best to protect her in the auction, but she has no choice in the matter. April goes into the situation with a positive attitude, not expecting to fall for the men so quickly. When she finds out her plans for the future of her children, she must decide if her love of the men is stronger than the love of any children she may bear.

2023.03.31 16:54 DuhChappers My Unofficial Bingo Reviews!

So let's get this out of the way at the top. For someone who read all these books, I sure did not do a good job reading the rules for Bingo, because I totally missed the rule about all the books coming from different authors. So this is only an unofficial bingo win, I’ll have to wait for next year to make it official. But I still had a great time hunting down new books and stepping out of my comfort zone on this project, and I’m committed to doing my unofficial Hero mode as well! I’m going to list the books I read in order of reading them, and I hope you enjoy.
Dune: Messiah, By Frank Herbert - Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey (HM)
This book was weird. I was warned, and I am aware that other Dune sequels get even more weird, but I still found this to be pushing my limits. Herbert has an imagination like few others. It was cool, and overall I had a positive experience with it, but it was work to try and understand it all. I will have to see how much further I get in the series while still having any fun at all. 6/10
A Memory Called Empire, by Arkady Martine - LGBTQA List Book
This book jumped to the front of my reading queue off of the title alone. Potentially my favorite book title of all time. The book itself is also very good, it’s got excellent worldbuilding and characters and an engaging plot. I love the names in the empire, and its culture in general. Only barely misses being what I would call a masterpiece because of pacing near the beginning and one interesting theme feeling underdeveloped. 9/10
A Desolation Called Peace, by Arkady Martine - Set In Space (HM)
This book was very similar in quality to the first one. It had slightly less of the cool worldbuilding from the first book, but it had just as much of the great characters. It was slightly less focused due to multiple POV’s, and one in particular dragged a bit for me. I do have to say, though, some of the best aliens I’ve ever read. 9/10
Bloody Rose, by Nicholas Eames - Family Matters (HM)
I read Kings of the Wyld just before bingo started and liked it a whole lot. I liked this too, but a little less. It was funny and pretty engaging throughout, with a couple really awesome moments. My biggest gripe with both books is with one aspect of the worldbuilding: The way the monsters. Despite some nods at the unfairness, no character seems to really care about changing anything and t gets under my skin. I do not think it works well or sends the message the book thinks it is sending. 7/10
The Traitor Baru Cormorant, by Seth Dickenson - Anti-Hero
Wow. This book blew my mind and blew right into my top 5 favorite books ever. I loved the world, I loved the prose, I loved every character, especially Baru and Tain Hu. The pacing and passage of time was handled basically flawlessly. I just loved it and looking back at it I love how it set up the rest of the series. 10/10
The Monster Baru Cormorant, by Seth Dickenson - Mental Health (HM)
Living up to a 10/10 as a sequel is tough, and I do think this book suffers a little from high expectations. But it still rocks! I love the new PoV character in this book, and I love the exploration of new cultures. The plot kinda slows in this one to make room for a lot of character work, which is good for the most part but does hurt the pacing. Also, very grim-dark. Tough to read at points, but mostly in a good way if that makes sense. 9/10
Small Gods, by Terry Pratchett - Shapeshifters (HM)
After the last book, I needed a couple lighter reads to get me in a better mood, and nothing is better for that than Discworld. This book was charming, interesting and funny throughout. It wasn’t my favorite Discworld book, but I’ve not read one yet that I didn’t enjoy. 8/10
The Golden Compass, by Phillip Pullman - Historical SFF
A friend gave me this as a random gift since I had never read it when I was younger. It was quite interesting, with a narrative structure and pacing that struck me as unconventional while still being engaging. I did think it took a little too long to the frozen north, and the journey was not always the most interesting. I do think I would have liked it more as a child but I’m still glad I had a chance to read it now. 7/10
Legends and Lattes, by Travis Baltree - Book Club
I still wanted to stay in the cozy zone for a little bit, and this book hit the spot right on. It had everything I wanted from it. Good characters, engaging growth and just the right amount of conflict. The concept alone is great and it lives up to that well. More than anything else, this book has great vibes and put a smile on my face consistently. 9/10
The Tyrant Baru Cormorant, by Seth Dickenson - Name in the Title (HM)
Finally returning to this series, and it still delivers. At this point in the series I knew what I wanted from the book and it delivered in a great way. It also managed to surprise me with a few twists that I thought were really interesting and left me super excited for the last book in the series. 9.5/10
Legion, by Brandon Sanderson - Urban Fantasy
This single volume collected three novellas Brandon wrote, and since I got them in one book I’m counting them as one book. I am a pretty big Sanderson fan so I was excited to check out something of his that I had never read before. I liked it a lot! I mostly liked the unique perspective of the main character with his different personalities and the slow build of the main mysteries throughout the different stories. I did not love the ending as much as I wanted but the journey was still well worth it. 8/10
Black Leopard, Red Wolf, by Marlon James - Set in Africa
This book was a pretty mixed bag in my opinion. I really liked the opening and the character dynamics that it set up. The setting was different for me and interesting as well, and I liked the way magic was used throughout. But, the pacing through the middle of the book almost killed me. I really struggled to get through some parts, and it also felt at multiple points like I had missed a page and was confused as to a new character or place that seemed to just appear. That said, once I got through the middle, the end was good once more so I left it on a positive note. 6/10
This Is How You Lose the Time War, Max Gladstone and Amal el-Mohtar - Two or more Authors
A friend loaned this to me with a glowing recommendation and I have to say - it deserved it. This is one of the most creative and powerful stories that I have read throughout this whole year. The way the story is framed - great. The character work through the glimpses we get into these people’s lives - brilliant. Worldbuilding and tech - consistently cool and interesting. Overall I’d pass it on to all of you with a glowing recommendation of my own. - 9.5/10
Promise of Blood, by Brian McCellan - Revolutions and Rebellions (HM)
This book did not really work for me. It did not lack merit - the magic was cool, and the world had a lot going for it. But the plot felt like it did not have a great sense of momentum, the prose was lacking, and the characters were inconsistent. Worst of all, I felt like a lot of the most interesting elements of the premise were not explored really at all. Overall, while I can see what made this book hit well for others, I can’t say that I would agree. 5/10
Red Seas under Red Skies, by Scott Lynch - No Ifs, Ands, or Buts (HM)
I read The Lies of Locke Lamora years ago and loved it, but bounced off the sequel at that time. Now I was more determined to get through it, and I was able to see a lot more to like. My biggest complaint would be that the book is too long, and Lynch has a tendency towards overdescription that hurts the pacing. Still, Locke and Jean are always entertaining, and their scheme is pretty great once it finally gets moving. I’m glad I got through it and I am still looking forward to the next in the series. 6.5/10
The City We Became, by N.K. Jemisin - BIPOC Author
I love the Broken Earth trilogy, and I was extremely interested to see what Jemisin would come up with in our world. The setup was interesting, the characters cool and strong in many different ways. I really liked the buildup and pacing throughout as well, though the resolution was over surprisingly fast. It’s easy to see this is just book 1. One big complaint: while I agree with almost all of the book’s politics, I thought the way it deployed them was quite jarring and tactless in some places. Not a masterpiece, but still very good. 7.5/10
Tress of the Emerald Sea, by Brandon Sanderson - Weird Ecology (HM)
I had this book pegged for this slot in Bingo since I read the preview chapter many months ago, and I definitely enjoyed my journey with it. I did have some issues; I think Hoid’s voice can get a little annoying over a whole book, and the resolution did not live up to the journey. All that said, for a light hearted romp in a unique world with cool characters, I think this certainly did its job. 7.5/10
Bands of Mourning, by Brandon Sanderson - Cool Weapon (HM)
This is my one reread I was allowed. I read it again to prepare for The Lost Metal, and I still love this book. I think this is the best of the second Mistborn series. I particularly love Steris in this one, she really grows to be probably my favorite character in the series. Side note: I was originally going to include this for the Cool Weapon category for Vindication, but then I realized the book was named after a cooler and much more magical weapon. 8.5/10
The Lost Metal, by Brandon Sanderson - Published in 2022
I think to appreciate this book, you have to be a big cosmere fan, and I’m not sure how well it works to just have all the cosmere stuff be so open after being in the background for as long as it was. But, I am a big cosmere fan, so it didn’t bother me much! This book is a fitting conclusion for the series and generally quite fun, even though it felt a little too action heavy and the pacing was not perfect. Also low in Steris which is a big flaw. 7.5/10
The Killing Moon, by N.K. Jemisin - Author uses Initials
It took me a little bit to be fully sucked into this world, but once I was in I felt a strong bond with the characters and their conflicts. I do think the story was a little predictable, but the execution was strong enough that it did not affect my enjoyment much. 8/10
Republic of Theives, by Scott Lynch - Award Finalist
This book is somewhat a return to form for the Gentlemen Bastards after I thought the last book was a little slow. It’s witty, it’s fun, and it felt so good to get answers to some of the mysteries established in the very first book. Honestly, I’m glad I waited so long to read this because now I might still remember it by the time the last book finally releases. 9/10
The Original, by Brandon Sanderson and Mary Robinette Kowal - Standalone (HM)
This was around the point I realized I had not very much time left for this challenge and wanted to focus on shorter stories to make sure I could finish. This one is an audiobook collaboration and I think its biggest flaw is length. It feels like this premise could have been fleshed out far more
The Sandman: Book of Dreams, by Various Authors - Short Stories
I found this randomly in a used bookstore about a month after watching the show and had to check it out. It had a bunch of stories in great variety, but the vast majority were interesting, creepy and unique. I didn’t quite get through all 20 stories in the collection but I hope to do so eventually, they are worth the time. 8/10
Priest, by Matthew Collvile - Self-published
Matt is one of my favorite youtubers, and I always wanted to check out his self published novels. They are set in what is more or less a D&D setting, and are meant to be callbacks to the hardboiled detective genre. This one was very interesting, despite some length it kept me turning pages. In the end I was a little dissatisfied with the resolution to the mystery, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the ride. 8/10
The Builders, by Daniel Polansky - Non-human Protagonist (HM)
I liked the pitch to this book - Redwall but everyone drinks and shoots guns. However, it left me underwhelmed by the end. I was not very engaged in the plot, and while some characters I really liked some gave me no emotion at all. Part of that was the short length of the book, it felt like it really could have benefitted from more fleshing out. 5/10
Overall I greatly enjoyed doing this! I’m glad this challenge exists and next year I’ll be back with a real completion of a card. I got 12/25 Hard Mode and I definitely think those are rookie numbers, I can pump those numbers up. A hearty thanks to everyone here who bothers to read this as well as those who put their time into organizing Bingo, it was a great companion for my reading this year.

2023.03.31 16:50 Gender_Dysphoria_ I decided to flock Ghoul Spirit Toralei

I decided to flock Ghoul Spirit Toralei
I previously cut the hair on my Ghoul Spirit Toralei short but I decided instead I wanted to give her a buzz cut. This was my first time flocking a dolls hair but I think it looks good. The corners of her hair comes unstuck occasionally. I used Elmer's glue to flock her hair. Is there a better glue to glue her hair down with? She still looks super cute tho and I love her.

2023.03.31 16:49 ZehGentleman General combat advice?

Hey guys I'm in a bit of a sad rut here. Been playing a lot of Warhammer and I want to get out of the auto resolve meta, but I feel like battles are just so one-sided most of the time. Maybe its just cause the AI attacks only when it feels like it realllllly will win in wh3, but most of the time I never see a defeat go to a victory (except when I was playing slaanesh since auto-resolve is ass for them). Playing slaanesh forced me to fight more which was good, but I feel like it hasn't really taught me all that much since they don't play like some of the more "standard" factions.
In games that are historical, it clicks for me far more. I played empire and attila where realistic boxes and lines with swords center pikes flank seemed to work wonders but WH3 seems to just not click with me.
Right now I'm playing as feestus and while I have what seems like an unkillable doomstack on feestus himself, my other stacks I'm terrible with. It always feels like my units get caught in meat grinders where they never win and my lord gets dumpster while if I send my best high damage units like melee specialists and large monsters to fight enemy lords/heros they just never die. Can I get some general combat advice as well as some for dealing with Kostaltyn? I know projectiles are key for shredding unarmored and larger targets but I don't really have that ability as nurgle.

2023.03.31 16:49 Andre3000RPI Yahoo Morning Briefing

Investors are celebrating the surge in tech stocks in 2023 as though last year — the worst year for risk markets in decades — never happened.
They could be forgiven.
The Nasdaq 100 (^NDX) just entered a new bull market and is about to notch its best first-quarter return since 2012 — up 18.5% with one day to go. Apple (AAPL) and Amazon (AMZN) are each up over 20% this year, while Tesla (TSLA) has surged nearly 60%, and Meta Platforms (META) is up over 70%. Chipmaker Nvidia (NVDA) is approaching an eye-watering 90% return this quarter — its best in over two decades.
📷
Markets have seemingly entered a time warp — where last year's losers are this year's winners, and vice versa. Tech stocks are bringing the FAANG vibes from 2021 and before.
But peering under the market's hood reveals some critical differences between 2023 and the prior era of preternaturally low interest rates when FAANGs flourished.
First, the bond market has been turned on its head since the Fed began furiously raising rates a year ago. The 40-year down trend in interest rates that existed prior is now reversing.
Markets never go straight up (or down), but a reprieve this year from higher rates has facilitated an echo of the prior era with tech stocks surging as interest rates wane. Suffice to say, knee-jerk reversions to the mean do not a trend make.
Second, concentration worries are surfacing again. Investors may remember concerns that megacaps were accounting for a disproportionate share of the gains in the major indices during certain stretches from 2017 to 2021.
Those concerns are back, though for different reasons.
Currently, the top ten Nasdaq 100 stocks account for nearly all of the gains this year in the Nasdaq 100 (88%). Apple and Microsoft alone account for 13.2% of the S&P 500's composition, the highest level since Ma Bell (T) and Big Blue (IBM) ruled the roost in 1978.
📷
Companies no longer have access to cheap capital. The longer rates stay high, the more small companies will fail. The Nasdaq 100 is outperforming its broader cousin, the Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC), by 375 basis points this year, which reflects this strength of its higher-market cap constituents.
To illustrate just how long these things can play out, recall that stat about Nvidia from above.
The chipmaker is about to post its best quarter since the fourth quarter of 2001, when it soared 144%. That monster rally began in the midst of a U.S. recession and a bear market in the Nasdaq that spanned three years. The following year in 2002, Nvidia would go on to crash 90% (top to bottom) before finding its footing in October.
Currently, there are a few tailwinds that could boost the major indices further. Investor sentiment is skewing bearish, which is complementary to bulls in a contrarian fashion. And even with recent gains, the best-performing index, the Nasdaq 100, isn't yet overbought according to market technicals on all but the shortest time frames.
But longer-term, investors must contend with (1) an economy that has yet to fully adjust to the reality of materially higher rates versus 2021 and before, and (2) a Fed that has so far kept its hawkish promises.
Markets don't like uncertainty. Unfortunately, it's still uncertainty that reigns.
