2023.03.22 06:51 PenAffectionate2627 What do I do with an unbalanced relationship? Idk a better title

Hi, some quick disclaimers before I start saying shit. I dunno anything about proper reddit rhetoric, so if some stuff is said weird or differently, that's why, please bare with me. Secondly, this is a throwaway, not because I think my partners will actually find this account and shit, but more for comfort sake. Thirdly, I don't even know if this is the right place to talk about this, so if I'm fucking up, please tell me and redirect me to the proper subreddit or whatever. Anyways, onto actually talking about this stuff.
For context: I started dating Gray about a year and a few months ago, and we added Ben around 8 months ago, math is hard(also I'm adding this in cuz I figured context is necessary again)
So, I'm in a polyamorous relationship with 2 other people, idk anything about different types of poly relationships, but for context, we're all supposed to love each other equally and all, just one big circle of love and shit blah blah. We don't see each other very often, but we make it work when we do. I've been having troubles in the relationship however, and I really just don't know what to do anymore. I don't know much about relationships, but from what I do, I know affection can be a major part of a relationship. While my one partner, for security I'll call them Ben, is affectionate with both me and my other partner, Gray(also for security), Gray is not affectionate at all. I know the whole deal. I should've thought of this when we started dating, I should've known how they are as a person, I guess I just had hopes they'd be more affectionate. It's not even for lack that they just don't want affection, they do, not as much as me and Ben do, but they do, but they NEVER go out of their way to try and get it. I try to hug them? They just sit there. Kiss them? They just sit there. They're like that with Ben too, but Ben doesn't care as much as I do about this whole shpeal. It's just very strained it feels. They are never affectionate, they were never affectionate when we first started dating either. I thought I could handle it, but after a while it got really upsetting. I'm a very affectionate person, ofc I know my boundaries and not to cross them so I never force affection or am too touchy, but it's really upsetting to be a super affectionate person, and to just be dating someone who never seems to want affection from me. It's not only that they're not affectionate, it seems like they're much more affectionate with Ben than they are with me. Not like that's saying much, as I said they never go out of their way to get affection, but I've noticed that they are more affectionate with Ben than they are me. It's always when all 3 of us are together too, and they say it's because they don't see Ben often so they do it to compensate, but at the same time I never get such treatment when they're around me so it feels bs? But that might just be biased cuz of my feelings on the matter. They never are affectionate, it feels like I annoy them more than anything but they've said before that's just how they are. I try to touch them, talk to them, be around them it feels like I'm just a problem, and it's tiring. I'm sick of feeling like that. One thing I know about being poly is that jealousy is kinda common, but I don't think jealousy should be this disproportionate to this point. They're just never there, emotionally, physically, nothing. I can't even name a time where they've kissed me or hugged me on their own without me prompting it. The last compliment I got was back at a picnic last summer. It's so draining, idk if draining is even the right word for it. I wanna be loved by them. And I know they do love me, but ig it's not a way I'm alright with. It feels like they love the title of dating me, not the work that's put into it. Hell it's gotten so bad that I've gotten delusional when they are affectionate, and when I say affectionate, I mean they hold my damn hand unprompted, I act like that's the greatest thing that's ever happened to me because I just never receive anything from them. To me it's just a lot. Also, I've brought this up to Ben, it doesn't really go well. All he usually says is to try and be more affectionate with them, and for the various reasons I said above, that just doesn't work.

And with this, I know I shouldn't sit through this relationship feeling like this. And I know it's best to call things off, but with this a lot of problems arise. I still love Ben, he's affectionate, he shows he loves me and is there for me when I need him, if I were to break things off, how the hell does that work? Just dating him and not dating Gray anymore? Then the morality comes in, if Ben even agreed to that conclusion, it's not fair to Gray to lose both partners, I don't think I'm comfortable with Ben just dating both of us and Gray and I just not dating each other. Then goes the fact that I'm losing a big support system, Gray may not show they care much for me, but their family certainly does, their friends certainly do, and idk what goes from there. I seriously am just, so stuck. And really just don't know what to do.
So, I'd like some advice from people who know way more than me. What to do, what the steps are into doing it, etc etc. Any help or advice is very appreciated. I know I fucked up bad with this relationship, but I wanna figure out what to do with it now. (Also do tell me if there are better subreddits or smth or if I came to the wrong place, I don't wanna bother a peaceful or friendly subreddit with my nonsense).

2023.03.22 06:51 Sevchenko874 [Fan Work of Fan Work] Koishi Komeiji's Heart Throbbing Adventure The Interim Chapter 12

You Matter to Her in a Way No One Else Could
When you died and were reborn, you became divine. You were love, and you were violence, and you were my miracle. A God sprung forth from the decaying machinery of your broken body. Koishi, the God of Love and Hate—have mercy on us all.
Down by the shore of one of the great Lunar seas, there sat a lonely shack thatched with feathers. Inside, there was a massive wani no less than eight leagues long… and her infant son. To that crocodile who had never known true familial love, that delicate little child—who cooed and smiled at his mother’s every move—was nothing less than a miracle. Such a delicate life in her claws, who knew nothing but unconditional love for his mother—to the crocodile, it was proof there was still good in the world.
She was tired, but the crocodile forced herself to stay awake. There was something she needed to do—a memory she wanted to share with the most important person in her life.
So, with all the caution and tenderness in the world, she picked up her child with her jaws and coaxed him into her throat pouch. The newborn child, perhaps having some shared instinct with his crocodilian mother, did not cry or struggle. Instead, he let out a giggle as he poked his head out from between his mother’s jagged teeth. With a snort, the dragon climbed out of her thatch hut, and crawled along the shore, drawing a meandering trail in the sand as she went.
When she reached the point where the water came to shore in gentle waves, the crocodile set herself down in the sand, letting the waves wash in and lick at her child in gentle sprays. Her child giggled as the Lunar sea’s tickled him with its pure waters, and as he did, his mother couldn’t help but feel at peace.
Nothing. Nothing at all would be able to take this from her.
Her miracle.
Toyohime opened her eye to clear blue skies.
She flexed her fingers, and instead of feeling the cold steel of the ship she started to tear apart, she felt so many tiny pebbles, warmed by their time in the sun. Sand? She brought a fistful of the stuff into her vision, before letting it fall through her fingers and run down her face. It was too real to be a dream.
Toyohime sat up to observe her surroundings. As far as the eye could see, there were infinite stretches of sand collected into wind-swept dunes that obscured the horizon. It was hot. Unbelievably so for what was supposedly the void. She felt a gentle gust of warm wind pass by her and toss her hair. This place… this impossible place… was she dead?
She rose to her feet, fighting biting aches and pains from her battle not too long ago. No—not dead. Somehow, she had survived—there was no other explanation. And as she looked down to assess the damage she had taken, her suspicions were only confirmed. Her right arm was missing, and in its place was nothing but a healed stump. The nasty cuts and bruises she had received in the fighting had all healed over for the most part, the only evidence they happened at all being residual scars that were yet to disappear. The ground was covered in dried blood. She must’ve been laying here in this sand trap for hours.
She brought her free arm, completely healed, up to the general space where her right eye was to find an arrow still protruding from it. Wrapping her fingers around the shaft, Toyohime tore it out in a fluid motion, causing the wound to reopen and drip blood onto the sands below. But, through some miraculous action, it was mere moments before the flow of blood stopped as the wound healed shut. Her right eye was still inoperable, but this healing ability was downright uncanny, even for a god.
She flexed her fingers. It felt like there was a hole in her head from which memories and feelings poured out. The mystery of how she got here, who she killed, and whether she could even trust her own senses had no answer—Toyohime knew she herself had made sure of that. She supposed there was a good reason. The less she knew, the better. That was something she could trick herself into believing.
Though no matter how much she forced herself to forget, she had the horrible feeling she had done something unforgivable—something she would kill over. In a sea of atrocities however, she could hardly even begin to suppose what that might have been. Maybe the heat was starting to fry her brain.
After spending a few minutes snapping the arrows lodged in her body by their shafts, Toyohime looked to the horizon, and then up. Ahead, there was a massive sand dune, no less than five times her height, and beyond the crest—a black pillar of smoke. Toyohime was not alone.
As she made her way up the shifting incline, Toyohime got to thinking about her next course of action. If this wasn’t a hallucination, then it most certainly had to be some extension of Koishi's will. Land in an impossible space… the creation of something impossible like that could only be a factor of a deteriorating mind, or God. And Toyohime had no time to consider the possibility of a crumbling psyche—not when she had a duty left unfulfilled.
But then… that would mean this was the paradise of Koishi’s mind. Surely, by her side is where she would find her salvation. She had already come to terms with it—that there was nothing left for her in the old world. Koishi could pervert and corrupt reality in whatever twisted ways she wanted—as long as it was the creation of her heart, it would be sufficient. Everything beyond that was not worth saving to the former princess.
… But that also meant there would be more enemies. More people she had to kill. She was ready. Ready to kill and ready to die in the name of love.
And as she planted her boot upon the peak of that sand dune, she saw the whole world become bare before her. A fair distance away was the crashed wreck of a golden ship, releasing plumes of black smoke as it burnt away. From this distance, it was difficult to make out any finer details, but she was sure the occupants had escaped. Satori was resourceful and stubborn, if nothing else. Dying in a crash was an impossibility.
She then traced a line from the ship through the shifting sands—to a city upon the horizon. Massive towers of glass and steel pushing against the sky, half buried in the sand, bending light around them as they reflected the intense heat of the sun. It gave the sight an unnatural fuzziness, as if the city was threatening to disappear at any moment.
As she traced the decaying visage of those buildings upwards, she saw a thin line reach beyond and into the sky. The line separated into two before converging back on itself. Above the city, etched upon the sky itself, was a pitch black gap in reality, opened and filled with so many eyes. And above still, the object of Toyohime’s desires and her sole driving factor—Koishi Komeiji.
Though the God’s eye was open, as well as the myriad collection of smaller eyes and drooling jaws that had lined every square inch of her squirming appendages, it was hard to tell if she was awake or conscious. Toyohime knew Koishi best, and if she had any guess as to what Koishi had been doing in the time they spent apart, it was receding back into the numbing comfort of her own mind. Even now, Toyohime figured she was still dreaming, avoiding the cruel weight of her responsibility. What manifested outside of her mind must’ve been some sort of twisted runoff.
Down there, hidden in the dunes, Toyohime knew there were those who would take this dream from Koishi. Those who would hurt Koishi. Those people would’ve done just as well to dig their own graves and build their own coffins. Because so long as Toyohime drew breath, she would protect Koishi with everything she could muster—that was her promise and the nature of her impossible, unconditional love.
Koishi was Toyohime’s second chance.
This time, one way or another, there would be no opportunity for a third.
Mima, on the other hand, had woken up quite a bit earlier than Toyohime had.
She had not suffered any fatal wounds or debilitating strikes leading up to the point where the reality around her started to crumble and distort—but she had briefly lost consciousness regardless. She figured that might’ve been a good thing; an action so absurd and so against everything she knew, perpetrated by an impossibly powerful being… even if a mere glimpse didn’t physically tear her mind to ribbons, she had no interest in trying to understand such a nonsensical event.
Mima awoke not in a desert, but in a grand sprawling city of seemingly human construction. Though the sun still hung overhead, the impossible hills and mountains of sand that caged the city in, always seemed to shift and move in the most calculated way… such that the sun was always put out. Caught in the shade, the city looked like it was in a perpetual night, in spite of the blinding yellow of the endless desert just beyond its limits.
Though that was the case, the city was far from dark. Street lamps, blinding neon signs, blinking traffic lights, apartments and houses with windows illuminated by the fluorescent lights within… It gave the impression the city was alive. It seemed exactly as a real bustling city at night, with its breathing and blinking—but there were no people. No matter how far Mima walked, no matter how many buildings she popped in, she would encounter no souls. She would find, in those buildings, immaculate setpieces filled with lived-in charm, hints and implications of life—but not people. Not even Yukari, who she wandered the streets in search of.
She recognized this place. This city—Tokyo. It couldn’t have possibly been, but it was the same Tokyo she grew up in, back before the Moonlight Descent and before the Kaiju. Before her chance meeting with the youkai who used to be her friend. This city, trapped in the middle of the desert, caught in an artificial night that obscured the flow of time—somehow it managed to be the perfect recreation of a long lost city, as if someone had taken a scalpel to the part of Mima’s brain that held onto the precious memories of her past life. It was comforting, being back in familiar territory, but it also carried along a pervasive uneasiness. The nostalgia said it was real, but the rational mind knew better than to buy into an impossible mirage—made all the more uneasy by the deathly silence of its streets.
After wandering around for a dozen minutes or more, Mima eventually came to find Yukari in a 24-hour fast food joint. She was sitting, out of her suit and miraculously healed, on a stool that faced the street outside, with her head down and a small pool of drool collecting at the point where the corner of her mouth met the countertop. Renko always said Maribel could fall asleep anywhere.
Mima floated back and forth around the gently snoring form of Yukari for a bit, considering her options. She changed back into her Renko form for a second, and after adjusting her hat a little, she reached over to tap Yukari on the shoulder… but then shied away. Glancing at Yukari, then back to her bag, she rummaged through its bottomless contents and pulled out a whole host of items: hand mirrors, makeup kits, two liter bottles of listerine, mints and peppermint breath spray and assorted beauty products.
She stole a quick glance back at Yukari to make sure she was asleep before going at it—in one go, she dumped every minty product she could into her mouth before swishing the unholy mixture in her mouth. It was not a moment later that she coughed out all of that liquid ice with a retch and a gag. Sheepishly, she turned her head to see if Yukari had woken up in all the commotion. Luckily, she was still knocked out something fierce. Mima might’ve guessed she was dead, if it weren’t for the occasional snore.
Undeterred, she opened a hand mirror and began to apply her makeup. Carefully. There was a subtle art to it—she only needed enough to hide any unsightly blemishes she might’ve gotten from her rather shut-in lifestyle as a ghost. Anything more, and Maribel was bound to notice Mima was purposefully fixing her appearance around her. None of that. Mima was trying for a more subliminal approach… It’s what worked in the past, after all.
Well, upon further thought, Mima figured “worked” was too strong a word. She did die before she saw any results, after all. But enough of that, Mima thought—now that she regained her memories, she’s finally gotten another shot. This being the apocalypse and all, she figured she should probably make it count.
She clicked close her portable hand mirror and, along with the rest of her stuff, threw it back into her field bag. She stole one last glance at Yukari, who was still sleeping soundly, before straightening her hat and clearing her throat.
“Maribel…” she said in a quiet, sing-song voice. She placed a hand on Yukari’s shoulder and gave it a gentle shake. “Maribel, wake up.”
No response. Mima pouted as she shook her around again. “Merry? It’s so scary around here—I need someone super strong and amazing by my side. Maybe we could hold hands?”
Nothing but more snoring. Mima’s expression fell. “... Okay, seriously. Wake up.”
“Don’t make me break out the big guns, Merry,” Mima said, digging through her bag and pulling out an airhorn. “I’ll do it. You think I’m bluffing?”
A tense beat passes. Mima stows away the airhorn. “... Ah, I’m just kidding. I wouldn’t do something like that to you. You’re too cute, hehe.”
“I’m not above this, though.” She reaches back into her bag and pulls out a spray bottle filled with water… before giving Yukari’s face a couple of quick spritzes.
That quiet, tranquil expression to Mima seemed almost a timeless representation of the relationship she shared with Maribel quickly contorted into one of disgust. After a moment of being pelted with spray after spray of water droplets, Yukari finally was roused from her sleep, a squinty, grouchy mess.
“Who..? Urgh…” She mumbled with a groan. When Yukari saw Renko, immaculately constructed before her with enough accuracy to convince her she came straight from her memories, she froze. Her voice was barely above a whisper. “... Renko?”
“Hehe… Yep, it’s me! Your best friend. Best girl-friend, even. That is, a girl who is also a friend. Not a girlfriend, you know? Aha… Unless? Kidding, kidding.” Mima flashed an easy smile. “Glad you’re awake. Hey, before you say anything else—how do I look? I look cute, right? I know we’re in the middle of saving the world and everything, but I’ve actually been spending a lot of time taking care of my appearance.”
As Mima continued to ramble on and Yukari continued to wake up, her expression made a slow and gradual pivot. Where at first Yukari couldn’t hide her bemusement from her face—as well as that strange pained expression someone would have, seeing a loved one they have long since finished mourning appear upon their doorstep—she eventually came to settle on an empty stare and a neutral, apathetic expression. It hurt Mima a little, seeing such a radical turn in her demeanor.
“Oh,” Yukari muttered. “It’s just you.”
Mima didn’t think she intended it, but there was a layer of latent annoyance in her words. Or maybe it was disappointment? A thousand years or more apart did a lot to shift their relationship. That much was clear—and it hurt.
Yukari took a moment to look Mima up and down. With a scoff and a roll of her eyes, she delivered an unceremonious answer. “You look fine.”
Mima sighed in response. “Hey, I’ll take it.”
“More importantly…” As Yukari continued, she craned her neck around to absorb every detail of her surroundings: everything from the light fixtures above to the tables that were so meticulously set and prepared. “... Where are we?”
Her eyes naturally gravitated toward the front counter and the kitchen section that was just behind—meticulously wrapped burgers and fresh fries, set underneath heat lamps… it was as if they were all made recently. But that wasn’t even the strangest detail Yukari’s eyes were able to pick out. Upon one of the tables was a tray, filled with half eaten food—as if the patrons ceased to exist in the middle of their meal. This was beyond a mere liminal space, where it gave the impression of once being a place where people gathered—it was closer in relation to the scene of an ongoing disaster, where people had left in a hurry.
In that way, it didn’t carry much of the surreal quality of a place no longer meant for humans—it more so felt like a place with a cursed history, its sinister and mysterious narrative etched into its skin and flesh through the vestiges of human presence. Mima could tell, being a ghost herself, there was more to this place than the physical construction. As to what ‘more’ was, she could not place.
She could tell Yukari was thinking something similar by the way she walked around and took in the feeling of the place. Her posture was rigid and cautious, but not necessarily ready and waiting for danger. There was a quiet dread to the things that weren’t, but should’ve been.
“I’m trying to figure that out myself,” Mima replied, following Yukari around with her arms folded behind her back. “You’re going to think I’m crazy, but… I think we’re back in Tokyo.”
“I don’t think you’re crazy.” Yukari replied. She walked over to the table with the food and traced a finger across its top. No dust clung to the surface of her finger, as if the tabletop had recently been cleaned. She brought the back of her palm close to the food. It was still radiating just a little bit of heat, as if it had been freshly served. “That’s the part that scares me.”
“... Assuming this is all very much real, this must be Koishi’s doing,” Yukari declared, taking a moment to look down at herself. As she flexed her fingers, her eyes narrowed. Mima figured she might’ve just realized she had been healed and mysteriously back to her usual outfit. She still looked younger and weaker than she once was, but there was an undeniable, albeit subtle increase in the vitality she seemed to convey. As Yukari’s eyes wandered to the empty city street outside, Mima couldn’t help but notice that expression—that idle, faraway gaze that looked like Yukari had trapped herself in a vivid daydream. She couldn’t help but realize how much Maribel had changed—and yet stayed the same.
“Whatcha thinking, Merry?” Mima tried, shuffling up to Yukari’s side.
“Yukari.”
“Oh. Right. Ha, that’s my bad. My bad…”
“I’m thinking: why Tokyo specifically?” With a wave of her hand, Yukari opened a gap next to her. Through that little tear in reality was a bird’s eye view of the whole city, as well as the infinite desert that surrounded it. “... There must be some significance to this location, but I couldn’t possibly imagine what it could be. Not right now, knowing what we know.”
“Hey, I grew up in Tokyo, you know? Maybe it has something to do with that? And… y’know, we were teaching in Tokyo before…” Mima gestured vaguely around herself. “... Everything, I guess. Maybe Koishi’s reacting to our memories.”
“Could be. Could just as easily be something related to Koishi. Could be nothing at all.” The view through the gap eventually fizzled out, leaving nothing but the inky blackness of the pocket dimension Yukari held dominion over. She let out a sigh before stitching the gap closed with a wave of her hand. “I’d suggest we keep on moving. Collect as much information as we can about this place. But only what we need—the plan is still largely the same. There’s no telling when she will appear again. Best be as quick about it as we can.”
“Oh. Uh… Alright. That’s cool.”
“... What?”
“Hm?”
“What’s wrong? You disagree?”
“Oh no, ah…” A sheepish grin crawled across Mima’s face. “I was just thinking about how much you’ve changed, is all. It’s just… you know, a huge city missing all of its people is pretty mysterious, huh? Don’t you want to do more exploring? Poke around a bit and take in the sights? Like we used to—just one last time?”
There was an unsettling period of silence where Yukari stared straight through Mima with that flat look. She averted her eyes for a passing moment. When Yukari returned her gaze to Mima, it was steely and cold. “No. Neither of us are kids anymore. We have duties and responsibilities that we can not abandon. Not for anything.”
Yukari brushed past Mima. The gesture wasn’t very rough at all, but Mima felt it come at her hard. As Yukari opened the door, she looked back at Mima and gestured to her to follow.
“Let’s go.”
Orin did not want much from life.
There was Satori, her master, who she cared about deeply. There was Okuu, her best friend, who she loved. There was Koishi, the younger sister of her master, who she felt obligated to take care of. And of course, there was her job of transporting corpses, which she could do endlessly and without tiring. Those things more or less encompassed everything she cared about—Orin was a simple person.
So as she crawled out the emergency hatch located at the top of the ship her master had so recklessly buried into a sand dune, she couldn’t help but feel so hopelessly out of her depth. With a groan, she hoisted herself over the lip of the hatch before losing her balance and tumbling over.
As she tumbled downward, bumping her head against every little edge the ship had on her way down, the visor to her suit cracked and then shattered. But as she flopped down into the warm sand, her arms and legs spread in a state of absolute fatigue, she couldn’t really bring herself to care about the warning tones in her helmet—or the fact she was able to breathe the air here, in what used to be the void. Frankly, all she could think about was how much she wanted to go home.
“Orin! Are you okay?” A familiar voice called from somewhere outside her field of vision. It was followed by the hasty clattering of boots on metal as they no doubt clambered down the ship in a hurry.
All Orin could offer in response was a weak grunt and the extension of a thumbs up.
“Are… are you insane?” Another voice called soon after, all breathless and hoarse. It cracked with exertion, as if it had already been worn out by so much screaming. “Satori, what form of devil possessed you to do that? We could’ve all died!”
Satori, of course, didn’t respond. Not before she entered Orin’s field of view, her own helmet long since thrown away. Her face was etched with a rare look of concern, and she breathed a deep sigh of relief when she saw Orin manage a weak smile. Wordlessly, Satori jostled off the smashed helmet from Orin’s suit and brushed away any remaining debris… before pulling her into a tight embrace.
Orin, dazed and shocked from the crash, could manage little else than to rest her head upon her master’s shoulders as she was pulled in. But through whatever stores of energy she had left, she managed to raise her arms and wrap them around in loose reciprocation.
“I’m okay,” she whispered. “I’m okay.”
Satori pulled back from the hug, but stayed kneeling by Orin’s side. Cautiously, she looked to the horizon, as if she had caught a vanishing glimpse of something stalking them from behind the shifting sands. She extended an elbow for Orin to grab on to. “Let’s go. Can you stand?”
“I… I think so,” Orin mumbled, hooking one of her arms around Satori’s elbow and placing a hand on her shoulder for support. Her master lifted, and in response Orin tried her best to stumble onto her feet, with mixed results. As she straightened herself out with the help of Satori, she heard her bones shift and crackle in strange ways—followed by an absolute lightning strike of localized pain in the leg and the fuzzy static that came to replace it.
After a sharp intake of breath and a pained wince, Orin settled into a decidedly unconvincing posture—she plastered a smile on her face and shifted all of her weight onto the other leg in a poor imitation of nonchalance, but Satori’s face only got graver. It broke Orin’s heart. For a moment, Orin tried to separate herself from her master so she could stand on her own—but Satori only squeezed her in closer, as if she would’ve lost Orin the second she let go.
That didn’t surprise Orin much. She knew better than anyone that the events one year ago were still fresh in her master’s mind. Even now, it haunted her every action, and now the consequences were starting to catch up with everyone involved. But to Orin, that didn’t matter. It never did—not so long as Satori was her master, and Orin was her pet. Satori could march to the deepest pit of Hell, pick a fight with a God, oppose reality itself… and Orin would march along right beside her, no matter what.
Patchouli, on the other hand, did not share the same sentiment. She marched up to the two, at least temporarily uncaring of the fantastical environment they found themselves in, and went straight to airing out her grievances.
“Recklessly engaging with Toyohime like that, against all better logic… one day, and this day might very well come sooner than you think, your obsession with that cursed woman will hurt someone you care about,” Patchouli snapped. As she looked to Orin, whose body was riddled with evidence of blunt trauma, her expression softened. “... It already has.”
“As if we had any other choice. It was our best shot to kill her, once and for all,” Satori replied, stone-faced and cold. “... Besides, let Orin speak for herself. As if you know what she does and doesn’t wish for.”
“... Orin wasn’t the only person who got hurt. Or killed.”
“It just so happens that Eirin conveniently falls outside my definition of ‘people I care about.’ I fail to see the issue.” Satori snorted with disgust, as if offended by the mere implication. Orin wanted to speak up and cut between the fighting, but couldn’t find the strength to oppose her own master. “That aside, who says I was the one who got her killed? She got herself killed, following her own incomprehensible mess of half-baked ideas and strategies. What are you coming at me for?”
“How could you be so cold toward someone like her? Especially since we were all fighting out there together, as comrades? Have you no shame?”
“I’ve no love for her. Not after what she did to my sister.” Satori stared straight into Patchouli’s eyes. Sometimes her master was like this—staring straight ahead through a person, as if judging the content of their soul itself. Sometimes, this was literally the case, given that she made liberal use of her opened third eye. “We might be fighting beside each other, but we’re fighting for completely different things. Yukari, Eirin, Kaguya, even you and I—we’re all fighting for something different. Those are just the facts. Just as it was a fact that Koakuma had darkness in her heart. It’s that kind of fact.”
“How cynical. Aren’t we friends?”
Satori fixed Patchouli with a steady glare as she thought through her answer. Even with an open eye, Orin found her master’s thought process difficult to parse.
“... No. We aren’t,” Satori settled. “It’s not a secret—I’m fighting to get my sister back. I’m fighting to kill the person who turned her into a monster. I’m fighting to protect my family. You are doing none of those things—you’re fighting for a more abstract reason: protecting the world, or preventing human suffering, or whatever other justification you assign to your actions. It’s admirable, but recognize that It’s only by convenience that we’re here, helping each other out.”
“... Is that right?” Patchouli muttered under her breath. “Then if it came between Yukari, or Eirin, or me, or anyone else… and your family. Who would you choose?”
Silence.
“It’s best to be honest with ourselves. It saves us the heartache.”
“I see.”
In the silence that came after, the atmosphere seemed to become heavier. Orin spent each passing beat being suffocated by the pressure. Her eyes darted from Patchouli to her master, and then back again.
“Er…” Orin started. “Let’s ah… could we just figure out what we’re going to do next, maybe? Without fighting—that would be nice.”
“Good plan, Orin,” Satori said. Though strangely enough, she wouldn’t take her eyes off of Patchouli. “I’m not quite sure what we would do without you.”
Patchouli looked away. Orin couldn’t help but feel vaguely responsible—though the second the thought even popped into mind, Satori squeezed a little tighter, as if in reassurance.
“... There’s no use in arguing,” Patchouli said with a heavy sigh. “Or rather, it’s a subject for later, when we aren’t all in danger. For now, I agree—we should figure out our next steps.”
The guns had long since run quiet.
Those satellites—their powerful bodies forged by the greatest minds, cast in the strongest metals, and mounted with the fiercest weapons humanity could muster—how could they have possibly matched the horror of God’s wrath? They could never, and for their hubris, their bodies and their souls were scattered and broken as a million glittering lights upon the ocean.
Those were the kinds of things Kaguya Houraisan thought about as she sat beside a flickering fire, her only source of light deep in the darkness of a desert night, not a few meters from the turned and battered wreckage of the CNS Beyond the Sun. In the void, It was battered by unseen force, turned three times—and upon the fourth, struck down and consumed by the void, as was the divine will of God. To its crew, it might have seemed like nothing less than a castigation of divine nature—but Kaguya knew it was nothing more than the temper tantrum of a child. As infant children must necessarily cry, Koishi must necessarily kill—it was her unconscious will.
Woe upon humanity, as its greatest accomplishment was brought low and made worthless before a child. Her own child. What a dubious honor it was—being the mother of such a terrifying, omnipresent killer.
Kaguya was on the ship when it was attacked by Toyohime. She was there to see Eirin march on to meet her. And she was there to see her die. It didn’t bother Kaguya too much—after all, she had watched Eirin die countless times. She will likely watch her die countless more, before all is said and done. But it was there, seized by the temporary shock, that Kaguya lost consciousness. When she woke up, she was deep within the fresh wreckage of humanity’s greatest weapon—alone. On what happened to her crew, and why Kaguya was spared, she could only make guesses.
With no direction and no plan, Kaguya spent what felt like hours wandering the claustrophobic halls of that great metal cage of a ship. But she was alone. Alone in such a way that not even the impression of humanity remained. Even the spot where she saw three men become atomized by Toyohime’s attack, which had burnt dark impressions of their silhouettes into the steel, was mysteriously void of any sign they were killed at all. The damage remained, but the people were gone—erased from existence in a way only God could manage.
When she eventually emerged from the dark recesses of the ship into a darker night, with nothing but the stars above and the inexplicable ground below, she could do nothing but start a simple fire. The night was cold, and she had a feeling it would be long. Warmth would be needed.
This, alone and huddled by a dying fire, must have been the end. Kaguya shifted closer to the flame, and held her knees closer to her chest. She didn’t know what to do. When her own daughter had sought her out, she didn’t know what to say. All she could do was recognize—that in pursuit of an easy life, she had made things so much worse. She wondered if it was too late to make things right between herself and Koishi. If Kaguya had looked up to her daughter now, and said sorry, would she hear? Would she care?
She wasn’t sure. And she wasn’t sure if she wanted to find out.
As she stared at the stars above, Kaguya heard the shuffling of boots displacing the sand. The sounds came in an irregular, halting motion. When it came to a stop, Kaguya lowered her gaze to the figure who stood at the edge of her fire’s light.
A moon rabbit in a pilot suit, all ripped up, tattered, and blackened by combat. In the gaps of her suit, her skin had melted away from severe burns—and froze in place, creating large patches of gangrenous tissue that covered her body. As Kaguya’s eyes drifted downward, she noticed a patch of body that had a view to the other side. Somehow, by some miracle of medicine, the wound remained stable and closed.
Her face was concealed by her helmet, tinted and patterned by a spider web of cracks, but by the way she stood, so still and lopsided, Kaguya had the impression of an empty gaze just behind the facade.
The moon rabbit carried in her left hand a revolver, its chambers empty and on display as the mechanism that connected the grip to the top half of the hung loose. In her other hand, was an ax, splintered in half at the handle from excessive use and its blade caked in a thick layer of blood.
Without a word, the moon rabbit collapsed into a heap by the fire.
Kaguya rushed to the moon rabbit’s side and, upon removing her helmet, froze.
Atonement—she wondered if it was even possible.

2023.03.22 06:04 RamblingsOfaMadCat Pokemon Training is NOT Slavery

And I'm going to prove it.
What follows is an in-depth analysis of the Pokemon world and its culture (hereafter referred to as the “Poke'verse.”) Where I’ll attempt to understand just what these beings actually are, and how they relate to the humans of their universe. The relationship between human and pokemon is obscure, but we'll be defining it today. For this post, I will reference the video game lore, but I will, to a large extent, be pulling examples from the anime. While I can understand why some might say this invalidates my points, I truly think the anime should be considered fair game. It depicts what the Poke'verse is truly supposed to be like, as the writers intend it to be, unhampered by the restrictions of a video game.

Let's dive in.

At this point, I know that the Pokemon fandom and the general public have a well-established and largely iron-cast interpretation of what it means to be a Pokemon Trainer, but today I’m going to attempt to challenge that interpretation. Because on the whole, it’s not especially flattering, and I think it’s false. You’ve seen the jokes, and the video essays, and the parody comics. You’ve seen it all. People have criticized Pokemon for the premise of the game effectively being a system of romanticized slavery. That the heartless humans kidnap these innocent animals and force them into sadistic dog-fights to further their own power, to the point where it is a global, televised sport. Ask anyone and they’ll tell you, Pokemon…are slaves. It's animal abuse. Those who argue it are in denial.
The funny thing is, most people don’t argue it. Which is because, to a large extent, most people don’t care. It’s just a video game, right? It’s not as though the Pokemon are outwardly suffering. Pokemon fans seem to just accept this premise and live with it, because the Pokemon world is bright and enjoyable and the formula of the games is addicting. To most people, the problematic premise of this universe isn’t a big deal. Nobody takes a passionate stance against it, apart from Gamefreak itself. They have little choice but to dismiss these claims, to argue against them…but nobody really listens. The franchise may do the best it can to play up the whole “friendship” angle, but the majority of fans, casual and otherwise, would say they’re not fooling anyone.

I see things differently.

This conclusion about the Pokeverse is not the only one that can be drawn from analyzing this world. It's also based on several assumptions, headcanons, and interpretations of this world’s symbolism. I interpret these things another way myself, and I’ll try to explain how. But the bottom line is that humans and Pokemon exist together in this world and have a unique relationship. Our world has humans, but not Pokemon, so one can assume that the Pokemon are a deliberate symbol of…something. What that something is will probably vary based on who you ask, but just about everyone seems to interpret them as the “animals” of their universe. As in, living creatures who are not human. (Because Humans…are also Animals, and that’s kind of the whole point right there, but I’m getting ahead of myself.)
We seem to draw an inherent comparison between Pokemon and #RealWorld Animals, which is where all of this stems from. I believe this is a mistake. Or if nothing else, it’s not the definitive interpretation of what they are. If anything, the closest comparison I can think of is…maybe Angels? But even that doesn’t truly describe their role. The more the Poke'verse gets fleshed out, the clearer it becomes to me that catching and training Pokemon are completely misunderstood concepts. They’re not really comparable to anything in real life, certainly not the training of animals or the keeping of pets. I genuinely don’t think that the relationship between Trainer and Pokemon has an equivalent in our world.
I do understand where the impulse to make this comparison comes from. Of course people look at Pokemon and see animals. After all, they're living, breathing creatures, magical creatures that coexist with humanity. A not insignificant number of them do resemble real-life animals or are otherwise based on them. The most crucial bit of evidence for this idea is that the Pokeverse, by all appearances, lacks “real world” animals of its own. There are no recognizable creatures from our world to speak of, apart from humanity. So I can see how people reached this conclusion and I get why they draw the parallel.

However, it’s just not a fair comparison to make. Not at all.

Some animals do have the means to defend themselves, of course. But Pokemon have abilities on another level entirely. They’re basically magic. They have superpowers unique to themselves. Can a human spit fire? Tunnel a hole in seconds? Can they summon storms in the blink of an eye? Can a human block all damage with Wonder Guard? The answer is no. They cannot do this. Humans are one race, and a relatively mundane race at that. While they are distinctly separate from Pokemon…that doesn’t make them superior. It doesn’t make them more powerful. The sheer variety in Pokemon species, not to mention the variety of their powers, means that if war was to break out between the two communities…the humans would not win. It wouldn’t even be close.
Pokemon are baked deep into this culture. If you had to guess which of these two societies was here first, would you really guess humanity? I wouldn’t. Just look at the spiritual side of this world. It has deities who are confirmed to exist, who created this world as we know it..and they’re all Pokemon. Who knows where the humans even came from, but the Legendary Pokemon are the ones who fashioned the universe. It is vanity to assume that Humanity is the dominant species of the Poke'verse.
They are not, nor have they even been in charge of this world. Pokemon explicitly range from human to above-human level intelligence. The humans attempt to understand them, but the Anime clarifies that they’ve chosen to name the Pokemon based on their speech patterns. Pokemon don’t “say their name” and nothing else. It’s the reverse. They speak unique languages that the humans elected to name them for. By contrast, Pokemon can clearly understand human language. There’s no way around it, they are smarter than us. So it’s no surprise that they have their own communities and systems, totally independent from humanity. However, there are also countless Pokemon who choose (read: CHOOSE) to work with humans, on individual and group-wide scales.

In fact, Pokemon and Humans may not be so different at all.

I bet their DNA is remarkably similar. They may descend from a common ancestor. There is consistent flavor text that verifies this, stating that on a fundamental level, Pokemon and Humans are all but the same. Perhaps humankind and Pokemon weren’t always separate beings? Perhaps they were once one and the same? It’s pure conjecture, but according to the Library in Canalave City, there was a time in the ancient past when Pokemon ate at the same table as Humans and would even marry them sometimes. That last bit of trivia is cut from the English version, undoubtedly because of the popular interpretation I discussed earlier. Fans see Pokemon as animals, and the dubbing team probably wanted to avert any weird implications.
What’s odd is that in Legends: Arceus, which takes place in the ancient past…humans and pokemon have clearly already been separated, and have no relationship beyond hostility and fear towards each other. There are exceptions, of course, but by and large, the idea of a “Pokemon Trainer” is a new concept to the humans in Hisui. I’m getting very off topic now, but it does make a fan wonder. Just what happened to separate pokemon and humankind? They were as close as kin at one point, before some kind of split occurred, and it’s taken countless generations for them to redevelop a closeness...there’s a greater mystery here that isn’t relevant to the topic at hand, but these questions are worth asking. Either way, the point is that the two communities are almost fated to come together.
The Pokemon are drawn to humanity, and whether they invest in an official “trainer” or not, they seek out humans just as often as the humans go looking for them.
The Pokemon will form these partnerships out of their own desire. A desire for what, you may be asking? I think it varies, but when it comes to the TrainePokemon relationship, we can assume the typical goal is shared strength. The human and the Pokemon form a symbiotic relationship in the Training system. This is stated numerous times, especially in the Anime - A wild Pokemon will never reach their full potential. Not without a Trainer. You see? It isn’t only the humans who benefit from this relationship, and the Pokemon understand this. The vast majority of them want to be caught, they seek a trainer who can help them harness their powers.
Mewtwo decries Pokemon Training as Slavery during Mewtwo Strikes Back. Pikachu contradicts him, and Ash literally puts his life on the line in the effort to prove him wrong. Much later, in Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, the same question comes up. Lucario asks if Ash is Pikachu’s “master” and Ash rejects that terminology. Because Pikachu is his best friend, nothing less. There is a reason why the word is “Trainer” and not “Master” or “Owner.” Because Pokemon Trainers do not own their Pokemon. Full stop. The Poke Ball isn't a prison. It, and the PC Boxes from the games, are implied to be a kind of virtual reality. The Poke Ball is a symbol, a convenience more than anything else, but not a requirement. Ash is living proof. The Poke-Ball may be the norm, but if you're claustrophobic like Pikachu, or you're just not feeling it, you can abstain. Ash has never treated Pikachu as a captive. Or any of his Pokemon for that matter. We don't ever see anyone keeping Pokemon as prisoners apart from the villains.

But what about catching Pokemon in general? That's still messed up, isn't it?

There is an obvious counterargument to be made to my stance, a Donphan in the room, and I won’t ignore it. The counterpoint here is that capturing Pokemon is almost always done against their will. Or at least, that’s how it’s traditionally done, and the norm in the games remains consistent. Still. Ash winds up befriending the majority of his Pokemon instead, and he’s far from the only trainer we see doing so. James is another human who recruits his teammates primarily through his own likable qualities. You might argue that while obtaining a Pokemon can happen without fighting, that style is still unusual. But again, based on the anime, it doesn’t seem to be that uncommon. I think what’s considered rare is that Ash seems to specialize in doing this despite his intended goal of training Pokemon for battle.
Regardless, capturing Pokemon through battle still happens. It happens quite a lot. The examples that differ from this norm don’t erase that, nor do they erase how repugnant it is. After all, the Trainer is cornering a creature who more often than not, was just minding their own business. (A wild Pokemon is very often the one to initiate battle, but never mind.) The trainer then forcibly kidnaps them after violently assaulting them. Even the term “capturing” Pokemon has problematic connotations. No way around it - on paper, this sounds bad. It sounds horrific. But if I may, I’d like to offer a different perspective based on what I’ve been able to observe of the Poke'verse’s culture. First of all, I’d like to offer a scalding hot take about the violence of Pokemon battles. This may be where I lose a lot of people, but hear me out.

I challenge the idea that a Pokemon battle is “violent.”

Or at least, I don’t believe the characters consider it to be violent, not in the same way we understand it. A pokemon battle isn’t assault, because they’re not human. But it’s also not animal abuse, because the Pokeverse doesn’t have animals. Again, it’s worth remembering that Pokemon are supernatural creatures with magical powers, and I’d say their powers, the “moves” they learn, play by different rules than conventional fighting. There’s actually quite a bit of evidence to suggest that this is true.
In Mewtwo Strikes Back, the Pokemon very specifically fight their clones without access to any of their actual moves, after Mewtwo psychically blocks their powers. Everything about this scene is meant to convey tragedy. All of a sudden, a series that’s been all about battle is preaching against violence. Sure, we can call it bad writing, executive meddling, or anything we want. But ignore the Fourth Wall and ask yourself, why would the characters react this way in-universe? Why is it that Pokemon battling has always been okay, but in this one instance, it’s not? The movie goes to great lengths to show us that the Pokemon are hurting each other. Which we don’t normally see.

The only difference? The Pokemon aren’t using their normal moves.

From this, we can conclude that the typical, conventional Pokemon battle, where the two Pokemon fight using their special abilities...it doesn’t hurt them. It may tire them out, but a Pokemon Center can heal basically any injuries in record time. Nurse Joy is some kind of miracle worker…or maybe she isn’t. Maybe The Pokemon are being tired out from their battles, but not actually harmed in the long term. Ever wonder why Pokemon can use hidden moves in the field, even when they're supposedly "fainted?" Or why Pikachu is able to get right back up after fainting in battle to cheer Ash on? This would explain why Pokemon attacks don’t cause lasting damage to humans, either. Get hit with a Flamethrower? Don’t worry, you’ll just be temporarily stunned and have soot all over your face. The doylist explanation is, once again, that it’s a children’s cartoon, but that doesn’t explain what’s happening in-universe. Team Rocket has been electrocuted by Pikachu a near-infinite number of times. So how are they even alive?
Simple. Pikachu isn’t actually trying to kill them. Because of course he isn’t. It’s quite possible that Pokemon moves simply are not capable of inflicting serious damage, or perhaps Pokemon have an inherent resistance to them. But I suspect it’s not a lack of ability that stops Pokemon moves from being violent…but an almost universal choice. That when Pokemon go on the offensive with their powers, or at least, when they direct said powers at humans…they are always pulling their punches. That’s why the fight on New Island was so grotesque - the Pokemon were not remotely familiar with battling that way, engaging in true violence, and there’s little doubt that they were figuratively and literally scarred by that night. (The ones who still remember it, anyway.)
It’s no wonder they never use their powers to cause actual bodily harm to anyone - I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some kind of sacred, unspoken taboo among Pokemon against doing so. A taboo that wouldn't be known to the newborn clone Pokemon on New Island. A taboo that may not have existed centuries ago, in say, the ancient times of the Hisui region. But present day, communities of Pokemon are more civilized, and they a working relationship with human society that ranges from neutral to friendly. We’re in head-canon territory now, but this kind of law among Pokemon kind makes a lot of sense. There may be Pokemon out there who break this taboo, but they would be few and far between - probably outcasts among their own kind. It would add a new dimension to Pikachu's refusal to fight back against his clone counterpart.
Again, this scene makes a point of telling us over and over, that what we’re seeing is wrong. “Pokemon aren’t meant to fight. Not like this.” That line right there is precisely the point. Battling isn’t meant to be like that, and in practice, it almost never is. There’s a reason why Pokemon almost never actually die in battle, and only get “very weak,” a condition that is cured flawlessly with the medical science of a Pokemon Center. It’s almost like a Pokemon’s powers create a kind of invisible simulation system, allowing them to spar with their opponent safely. Because that’s what a Pokemon battle is, at heart. It’s a test of skill. It’s meant to just be friendly sparring. A kind of sport that the Pokemon and Trainers engage in together, and it’s stated many times that they need to be in sync to have any hope of a successful career in professional matches. Again, I refer you to Mewtwo Strikes Back. The Pokemon were able to use their powers collectively to restore Ash to life. There’s clearly a lot more to a Pokemon’s power than just combat. That part is nothing more than recreation for them.

I deviated tremendously from the original question about capturing Pokemon, but I feel that it’s important to address this point.

Pokemon Battling is not violence. It’s effectively a sport that all sides consent to playing, a sport that has safety measures practically built in, as well as further precautions offered like the Pokemon Center. In that sense, it's more or less just another interpretation of Pokemon Contests, and Showcases, and everything else. A human helping a Pokemon study their powers and use them to fullest potential. This is the reason why I don’t actually consider a Trainer fighting a wild Pokemon to be so obscene. However, that only addresses the question of violence. Trainers are still kidnapping Pokemon against their will, right? That’s why one has to “weaken” a Pokemon to catch them. Well, believe it or not, I’m going to debunk that too.
Barring exceptions, the wild Pokemon must be exhausted to the point that they can no longer resist a poke-ball, before you can obtain them. Their opinion about being caught is always a non-issue. By all accounts, it doesn't seem as though this is acceptable. But even this, I think, is part of the cultural dissonance. Among other things, we don’t know what the little “click” of the Poke-ball actually means. It signals that the capture was a success, but is that the Pokemon choosing to yield, or the Poke Ball’s technology locking them in? It’s a little ambiguous, I’ll freely admit as much…but I would argue that the former idea isn’t impossible. Again, wild Pokemon, generally speaking, actually want to find a Trainer. The first episode of the anime even hints that certain wild Pokemon are jealous of those with trainers. With that in mind, why is catching them even a fight to begin with?

I’ll tell you why. When a wild Pokemon battles a trainer, they are essentially giving that trainer a test.

They’re gauging the trainer’s abilities to bring out the potential of their Pokemon. If you’re a trainer, and your Pokemon defeats another Pokemon in the wild…you’ve just proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that your Pokemon is stronger than the wild one. You have now proven that you have something to offer, you’ve passed the test. The wild Pokemon now realizes that it stands to learn something, to grow more powerful, by accepting your tutelage. That’s why it’s considered acceptable to the Pokemon to follow a trainer after they are overpowered and captured. It’s like…right of conquest, but with fully informed consent.
Consent is key here, and I believe this cultural understanding to be the reason that most Pokemon are immediately comfortable with following the trainer who caught them. While one might argue that they don't really have a choice anymore...that simply isn't true. The anime clarifies that Pokemon can release themselves from a Poke-Ball whenever they want. Misty’s Psyduck is the most iconic example of this, but there are countless others. In theory, a Pokemon could just leave a trainer who they find unsatisfactory. Actually, that’s not just a theory. That’s canon. Something that most people don’t seem to realize (or at least, they forget) is that it’s not just Trainers who ditch Pokemon they no longer want. It happens in reverse as well.

Pokemon can and do abandon their trainers, if they deem said trainers to be unworthy of their talents.

Remember when I said that I would be chiefly referencing the anime, because it’s the most reliable depiction of what the Pokeverse is supposed to be like? This is exactly what I was talking about. Because obviously, this never happens in the games. Your Pokemon don’t just disappear from your party or PC boxes, because that would be an incredibly stupid and unfair mechanic. But in the anime, where the relationships between Pokemon and Trainer are more fleshed out? In the first season, Bad To The Bone is about a Marowak who chose to ditch his trainer after said trainer had his badges stolen. While the Marowak eventually changed his mind, at no point did any character voice the idea of trying to return him by force. That was never on the table. It was Marowak’s choice and no one else’s, which is why the trainer was heartbroken.
But that’s not a one-off, it’s not the only example. There are quite a few. Due to a misunderstanding, Gym Leader Pryce once believed his Piloswine had abandoned him. Then there’s Ash. Always the mother hen, he’s adopted many Pokemon who were abandoned by previous trainers, but the opposite has also happened. His Snivy, and his Greninja, are both Pokemon who were explicitly stated to have had previous trainers whom they chose to leave, because they didn’t feel understood. Typically, it seems that Pokemon choose to leave because they feel as though the unspoken contract that is “pokemon training” has been violated somehow, or they’re otherwise not getting what they signed up for. This is why the traditional method of “catching” Pokemon is so vital. Because it’s an honor system. There's a reason we aren't able to capture a Pokemon has already fainted. That would be the most efficient way to go about things, but the MC won't do it. Why? I can only assume this is to ensure the Pokemon gets a voice in whether they're caught.
Any time a human does attempt to force a Pokemon into submission or otherwise harm them through any method that is not the traditional system of capture, the story treats them as unquestionably villainous for doing so. The other humans react in horror, and attempt to stop them. This is because forgoing the “defeat them in battle” route and instead using some kind of technology or whatnot to claim the Pokemon is seen as dishonorable at the best of times, and evil at the worst of times. The Trainer is ignoring the agency of the Pokemon. Attempting capture in the conventional way is a mutually accepted system, the wild Pokemon know and understand that a trainer may attempt to take them, and if they really don’t want to be said Trainer’s Pokemon, they can always choose to leave after they are captured. But the use of other means takes that choice away from them. These villains, usually the evil Teams, are using methods of capture that fail to demonstrate to the Pokemon why they are a worthy Trainer, and likewise rob them of the ability to judge them as unworthy.

There are exceptions, but for the reasons I have described, I fail to see how the idea of “slavery” is applicable to properly trained Pokemon.

They have the power to attack their trainers whenever they choose. Sometimes they do. They have magical abilities that enslaved humans in real life do not have. Legends: Arceus does a great job of highlighting just how dangerous Pokemon could be toward their human counterparts if they really wanted to be. They also have the power to leave. A Pokeball is not a chain. The only time a Pokemon struggles to escape a Ball is when it is first used on them, and the connection is initially forged. But, as I’ve talked about, I believe this to be a ceremonial process and little else. Trainers will immediately send out freshly caught Pokemon to heal or train, and the Pokemon don’t run. But once again, they could. What is stopping them? Ash’s Charizard never saw fit to abandon him, but if he had, what could Ash have actually done about it? Basically nothing. He’d get a flamethrower to the face and then Charizard would fly off. The same thing is true for any of Ash’s Pokemon, or the trained Pokemon of any Trainer ever.
There’s another Donphan in the room that I’d like to touch on real quick. I’ve talked a lot about how the anime clarifies the nature of Pokemon and their relationship to their Trainers…but I also mentioned that the developers have openly tried to beat back the claims of animal abuse, of slavery. The anime speaks for itself, but what about the time Black and White openly addressed these criticisms? You were probably waiting for me to bring it up, but the truth is, I don’t have much to say. The idea of Pokemon and Trainers having a symbiotic relationship, and needing each other…the idea that they shouldn’t be separated…all of that is touched on in the games, but the subject is mostly used as a scapegoat by a wannabe dictator.
I have yet to see any character in Pokemon honestly make the same comparison that critics make in real life, and I doubt we ever will see that happen. It’s just not an idea that can be properly explored in the Pokeverse, because our world is unknown to them. Our way of doing things isn’t something that any in-universe Trainer could hope to understand. It’s an entirely different culture. The way we personally view Pokemon as creatures is colored by our context, by the fact that we’re on the outside, peering into this world with the perspective of a society that doesn’t have Pokemon. To the humans, this is the way their world works. Team Plasma came the closest to approaching that idea, but even then, they were the villains. It was made abundantly clear that they were wrong.

If you've stuck with me this long, know that I appreciate you. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. If you need me, I'll be shiny hunting for Klawf.

2023.03.22 05:49 Oxevoo Am I the asshole for cutting off my sister for 2 months completely? (We talk now lol)

My sister (who is four years older than me) loved to tell all my business to literally anyone she could. When I was 14-15 and she was 18-19 she would always fail to make conversation if it WASNT about me. You know how you tell your sistesiblings about your dating life? (Well that’s what I would do ig) She would never keep things safe between me and her. “So why did you keep telling her your business?” I stopped, but eventually she would find things out on her own. I was a teenager sneaking out and drinking, she would barge into my room and see a bottle or I simply wouldn’t be there and she would tell our father and then later bring it up in family reunions. It got to the point where I told her to STOP talking about me and my personal life or issues. then later that night caught her on the phone with one of our relatives LITERALLY SAYING and I quote, “if she wants war it’s war” LIKE WHAT?? What I wanted was privacy because yes I was young but I wasn’t completely stupid. I knew what I was doing and I never put myself in dangerous situations. So hearing her say that literally made my blood boil, and then the next day she chooses to act like my best friend? This happened multiple times where I could hear her talking about me to any family member that was over. And once they left and I go out to the living room/kitchen etc, she would act all innocent and again try to act like my friend. (Which would be fine 100% if she wasn’t talking shit and gossiping behind my back) the thing that really did it for me though was one night where I was out with my boyfriend and his mom getting some food, she called screaming and yelling asking where I was. I told her to relax because I was with an ADULT and my boyfriend eating some food like five minutes away from home. She replied “You fat peace of shit” (normal for siblings to insult each other) BUT the tone she said it in was so disturbing. Like full on yelling bloody murder. My boyfriend and his mom heard this (I had her on speaker because I wasn’t aware I was going to be insulted and embarrassed..) And decided we should call it a night and take me back home. She came inside with me, and my sister had no shame to start yelling at me completely. The way she was yelling was insanely manic and unnecessary especially in front of someone she’s never even met? So you could imagine how she would act with relatives we knew. I don’t remember everything she was yelling but it was mainly insults and a dramatic “I’m going to bed” my boyfriends mom and I were shocked with the whole situation and she left and said goodnight to me. The next day I decided I wasn’t going to talk to her at ALL because her behavior was more childish than mine and she’s older. We would be in the same room and I wouldn’t acknowledge her at all. Talking to relatives and not even giving her the satisfaction of a quick stare. It lasted two months until I decided to grow some balls and finally talk to her. She did end up changing after the ghosting her whole existence, but I still wonder to this day was that too far? To ignore someone literally living under the same roof? But then again I wouldn’t have done that if she didn’t act the way that she did. Anyways, I’m open to criticism to how I handled the situation. Keep in mind I was still young and that’s really the only thing that I could come up with because I already told her multiple times how I felt. I was super curious what Reddit would say about this lol

2023.03.22 05:47 extraordinary_gamer Melee theme review list

Hey everyone, I'm going to start posting a series of reviews biased around every character in smash bros melee. The rules are the games each have to have you play as the same character as the fighter in melee and it has to be a game I haven't beat before, here is the full list of characters and games, in no real order.

Mario- Super Mario Galaxy 2
Luigi- Luigi's mansion 3
Bowser- Bowsers inside story
Peach- Super Mario 3d world
Yoshi- Yoshi's island ds
Donkey Kong- Donkey Kong jungle beat
Captain Falcon- F-zero GX
Fox- Star Fox assault
Falco- Star Fox 2
Ness- Earthbound
Samus- Metroid Prime
Link/ Yong link- Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time
Pikachu/ Pichu/ Mewtwo/ Jigglypuff- Pokémon lets go
Dr. Mario- Dr. Mario
Roy- Fire Emblem, Binding Blade
Marth- Fire Emblem, Shadow Dragon
Mr. Game and Watch- Game and watch gallery 4
Ice Climbers- Ice Climbers
Zelda- Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks
Ganondorf- Hyrule Warriors, Age of Calamity

Just some notes. I know Ganondorf's game isn't perfect but outside of the first hyrule warriors, which I have already beat, it was the best I could find with him playable. Also, all the pokemon share a game and link shares one with young link because I felt it was still in the spirt of my idea. Next if you're wondering why i picked these games instead of others it's probably because I have previously completed the others, and these are the best ones I haven't finished.

I'll start with my first review of Shadow Dragon soon and will go from there.

2023.03.22 05:38 HarryPotter_2022 My full review and analysis of Ninjago (Part 1- pilots)

Hello! This was supposed to be a series of videos, each discussing Ninjago media but I ran into technical difficulties and I was forced to make this as massive posts. I'm using the script I wrote for the videos so sorry if the wording seems a bit weird. I've changed it as much as I can. This segment was written on the spot. This post will discuss the pilots. So without further ado, let's dive into this. The pilots were released on 14th January 2011 and are the first official part of the Ninjago canon. They consist of two 22-minute episodes or four 11-minute episodes depending on where you view it. Most people have seen it as 2 episodes tho including me so I'll be talking with that configuration in mind. The first pilot is called "Way of the Ninja". This is basically the foundation of the show. The first shot we get is a beautiful landscape with a blacksmith shop at sight and an old man, who we will soon find out is Wu, walking towards it. Then we meet our main protagonist for the pilots, Kai - a young boy with a fiery temper and a desire to be the best at everything. We see his impatience when he pulls the sword out the fire the wrong way and it doesn't turn out straight. Then we meet the catalyst for Kai's journey as a ninja- his younger sister Nya. At first glance we can see she is much more patient and even tho she is younger, she's much more mature than him. Through the dialogue we find out that their parents are gone or presumed dead but that is later to be discussed. After the revelation of this fact we can imagine they lived on their own their entire lives. And now we see the old man approaching. The viewers witness a short brawl with words between Kai and the elder. Kai's hot-headedness is at full display in the next couple of scenes when the main antagonist of the pilots is revealed through dialogue. The sky goes dark as the Skullkin approach with their skeleton-themed vehicles. Then we meet 3 of the Skullkin, Kruncha and Nuckal, the comic reliefs, and Samukai - the general. As Kai gets ready to fight he warns his sister to stay back, showing his protective nature towards the people he loves. After a short fight tho, Nya joins the battle. Unfortunately she soon gets kidnapped by the skeletons. Wu saves Kai. Then we get this confrontation between the two contrasting personalities. Kai, angry and ready to fight wants to follow the enemies and save Nya but the wise old man who reveals himself as Sensei Wu tells him that he stands no chance and he can't follow them into the place they live in, the Underworld. So he invites Kai to become his pupil. Kai accepts with the intention of saving his sister. And so his hero journey begins. We get the iconic "Long before time had a name" monologue in which we find out Wu is the FSM's younger son and his older brother, Garmadon was corrupted. He is the one who ordered the kidnapping of Nya. We get a fun little training montage with all of Kai's failures but as times goes on he studies all the difficulties in the course and soon masters them. This shows his adaptability to new situations. Kai is impatient to learn Spinjitzu so he can fight off the Skullkin and asks when is he going to learn it but Wu isn't impressed and leaves his question hanging. The next scene is in the evening. Kai is getting ready for bed when he gets attacked by mysterious men in black. After a brief fight between them Sensei Wu stops them and reveals that those are his other pupils. Then we witness the iconic scene of Wu using Spinjitzu to give the ninja their signature colours. The trio of ninja change their gi from black to their respective colour and Kai gets his own gi in firehouse red. Then we get introduced to the new characters. Jay, the one in blue, master of lightning, with a sense of humor and loves dabbling in cooking and model building. Cole, the black ninja and master of earth. He is the rock foundation of the team and the natural leader. And Zane, the white ninja, master of ice with untouched potential. Wu tells them about the four golden weapons and how each of them has to retrieve one of them. So they go for the Scythe of Quakes first. On the way the ninja chat about how each met Wu. Jay met him on top of a building, drinking tea and Jay crashed into him while testing his mechanical wings. Cole met him on top of a mountain he climbed. Zane met him meditating on the bottom of a frozen lake. Soon the team has arrived in front of the place where the Scythe of Quakes is kept safe. There are Skullkin all around the place. Wu tells them that when they get the weapon they mustn't use it. Meanwhile Kai runs off first. The others follow him and Cole says that he shouldn't run off like that or he'll blow their cover. They enter a cave where the scythe is but they bump right into Samukai. Then a battle unfolds as Jay realises that the way to unlocking Spinjitzu is just repeating the training course. Everyone unlocks Spinjitzu and the Skullkin escape. The team's celebration is short-lived when the guardian of the scythe shows up- a giant earth dragon. Quickly, Kai grabs the scythe and uses it, thus ignoring Wu's prohibition. As the ninja escape through a hole in the mountain, Wu greets them and scolds Kai for using the scythe against his words. This sets up Kai's arc about learning that not everything centers around him and he must let others help him. Samukai explains the situation to Garmadon. We don't see him, we only hear his menacing voice which amplifies his presence. The mere fact that we don't know how he looks and what to expect from him makes him more threatening. This is how the episode ends. Episode 2 is called King of Shadows. The episode starts with a ship sailing between two icebergs. The ninja are on the ship and they are traveling to the place where the Shurikens of Ice are kept. Then we get a montage where the ninja obtain the shurikens and the Nunchucks of Lightning. The next scene is the ninja having a break and dancing to some music. Then they go to sleep. But Kai sees Nya in the woods and he runs after her. Suddenly he is in front of the Fire Temple. He follows Nya in the building only to find her tied with chains above lava. Without thinking Kai jumped ahead and obtained the Sword of Fire from the pedestal and freed his sister. But then the unthinkable happens, Lord Garmadon himself shows up in his giant shadowy form. He transforms himself into Kai's shadow and beats up Kai pretty easily. But then Sensei Wu appears and fights the shadows. He takes the sword and falls with it down in the volcano of the temple to prevent Garmadon from getting it. Meanwhile, the Skullkin steal the rest of the Golden Weapons while the ninja are sleeping. They wake up and go after them but fail to retrieve the weapons. Turns out that the volcano that Wu fell in actually leads to the Underworld. When the ninja get to the temple they are greeted by Kai and Nya riding the fire dragon. Jay falls for her. Kai tells everyone that they need to befriend the dragons because they are the only creatures who can travel to the Underworld. The next shot is the ninja riding the dragons as they open a portal to the Underworld. They go through various different tunnels until they reach a massive cave with a skeleton base guarded by it's inhabitants. There are giant spiders everywhere. The ninja get quickly spotted and they attempt to form the Tornado of Creation successfully. With it they create a skeleton-themed ferris wheel with all the Skullkin trapped inside. The heroes move forward. Inside the base they find Wu fighting Samukai with the Sword of Fire while Samukai wields the rest of the weapons. Samukai obtains the 4 weapons and we see Garmadon for the first time in physical form. He doesn't seem worried about Samukai gaining the powerful objects tho. He's actually planned it all along. As Samukai spins with the four weapons he dissolves into dust. No one can handle all the power of the weapons at once. But after the general a portal opens and Garmadon enters it claiming he will return more powerful. The team is left with the weapons. In the next scene the ninja are back at the blacksmith shop celebrating temporary victory. Kai promises the villagers that they will be ready when Garmadon comes back. And we finish the pilots with the full team shot. This was so so long and I'm sorry for that but congratulations if you read through it all! Idk when I'll make the next post about S1 but seeing how 2 episodes took me so much time to write about, I'll try to shorten the post more or I'll be making a whole novel just for one season. I just wanted to take my time on the pilots, the next posts will discuss only the highlights. Anyways, have a nice day and till the next post!

2023.03.22 04:52 Jdawger_ Stay vigilant & protect yourself from people stealing your Tales From The Front Desk stories for their own articles without permission, and remember to cancel your reservations.

For starters, to not break rule #1, I will say this in a bit of a story form as well as include a tale at the end. This post is mostly about the article thing.
If you read my last post, you can probably see that it got a lot of Karma. It got so popular that a few people reached out to me asking if they can use it for their site.
Now I say this not to brag, but for context. Even though some people reached out to me, there was one site that used my tale for their site without asking permission (they did credit me at least). For sake of avoiding direct defamation, I will not state what site did this (but you can probably figure it out if you look deep enough).
I actually do writing myself for some of these types of sites as well as did some editorial/submission work for a literary journal in the past, so I know a little bit about how they operate, so I will explain how someone using a tale from this sub is bogus, even though I did receive credit.
Most of these official sites operate off a revenue basis: the more views and/or clicks they get, the more money the site gets, and more the post author could personally get. Think of it similar to YouTube and their monetization for channels. In the writing world, using someone's story as your own for monetary gain without the author's permission is considered stealing if there is trace of the original author using it first. The plot of She-Hulk Season 1 Episode 6 is the best example of this that I can find.
In terms of my post that I posted on Reddit, I don't know where that falls under copyright to be honest or if what this site did was technically legal or not, so at the end of the day, I got to possibly just lump it.
The point is to protect your stories as this post I am currently writing isn't the first cautionary tale to be on the lookout for these sites using your stories. Protect yourself and know if you see someone using a story from here, let the post author know. Even past the bogusness of them taking their story, sometimes people could get in trouble if someone can link two and two together. Rule 2 & 3 of this sub are there to promote being anonymous when posting these stories, and these 3rd party article sites spread them further throughout Google too.
And to the sites that do use them without permission, shame on you using someone's story for your own financial gains, even if it might not be technically illegal.
Now to the story quickly to not break rule 1:
I had a guest today who wanted to know what room her husband was staying in. After getting his name and verifying she was indeed his wife, I noticed he wasn't checked in yet. She asked if she could check in under husband's reservation. Per our policy, we cannot do that without the express permission of the reservation holder, so I called the number attached and it was the reservation holder. I asked him if he would allow her to check-in on his behalf.
He was all confused because he just checked in at a sister hotel across town. Told him he still had a reservation here. He said he thought he cancelled it and he forgot to tell his wife that they booked at the other one since a room opened up and that location was closer to where they needed to be in the morning.
We all laughed and I cancelled over here since it was before our cancellation policy and was a direct booking.

2023.03.22 04:41 copticpierre She’s BPII - 22 Year Relationship, 18 Year Marriage, 3 Amazing Kids, I gave her my Heart, an extended Family, a huge network of Friends, Vacations, Dream Home, Everything - GONE… Feels like overnight…Courtesy of BP denial & prolonged use of Venlafaxine / Effexor & No Mood Stabilizer

She had childhood trauma, abuse, abandonment by her dad… Mom & siblings undiagnosed w/mental health issues…
With me she had her first hypomanic episode in 2003 (she wasn’t diagnosed yet). We were engaged, she was on a 8 week project in Canada and when she came back every other weekend it was like fire and ice. Couldn’t understand what happened to make her reject me like that. Her project ended, I broke off the engagement… 10 years later I learned there was an affair with a married guy on the project that traveled as well, they basically honeymooned together in that hotel. The rest of 2003 She spent 5 months showering me with apologies, emotional love, and AMAZING physical love…
Of course… a year later I was married to this, the most beautiful woman I’ve ever known - not knowing what had really happened, I was overcome by her… I didn’t stand a chance.
We built a life, careers, a family. I supported her thru 3 terrible depressions, and what I later learned was a hypomanic postpartum episode in 2010 after the last baby was born… she rejected the newborn, other 2 kids and me, she went in-patient and finally diagnosed BPII - but never told me.
Then in 2013 I had metastatic cancer, she got depressed, and right after my surgery she unraveled - cashed out 401K, spending, travel, left me and the kids for an affair w/married guy, got an attny to file for divorce, pack of cigs a day, removed me from her HIPAA/psychiatrist, got super angry, bitter, wished me dead, of course I was the cause of all her problems - you know, all the standard stuff…
Fyi…. it was antidepressant associated hypomania (AAH)… then she got too clingy with guys, and when her affair was exposed the guy ran for the woods…She ran to tinder looking for her next affair, then a guardian angel intervened and got her admitted. The second the lithium hit her blood she felt it, and said that’s only reason she knew something was off… that she felt different!
We separated for 14 months… Then she truly and honestly transformed her life in every sense, became a real follower of Christ, took psychotherapy, had medicine compliance, became an amazing mom, and waited for me… she did the work, and eventually I took her back…. Afteralll we had 3 kids under 6 yrs old…We spent the next 7 years rebuilding, and she became my bone marrow, my everything, and I became her everything…. How many thousands of times she let me know that. But, I always felt something was off, no mood charts, no therapy, she hated talking about BPII! I read the books, followed the BP blogs went to the meetings but she never took part…. But what did I care, she was stable…
Then…. It all went to shit…. Started in late sept 2022, was way worse than the 2013 episode, but this time the kids are older and have a front row seat.
150 mg Effexor XR, no mood stabilizer… every symptom out of the DSM-5, with mixed features euphoria/dysphoria. She Filed for divorce, I got temp stalking injunction as a thank you for all the interventions I tried to get her hypomania treated. Same ugly disgusting behavior, but more guys this time…I’ve been on my own with kids for several months, while she lives her “best” life… I came apart the first 8 weeks, but didn’t let anyone see. Meanwhile I mourn the memories of an amazing wife and mom, I hate the current freak that’s occupying her brain, I would never choose to be with that person. I don’t think I can get over the infidelity this time, I don’t want too, hurts too much.
But the question remains… how do you process the loss of someone you really had a great 2-way relationship with???? You feel like the crazy one… what do you tell yourself. Or worse, how do you move on knowing that she’ll come back and fight for you and her family, maybe for years, maybe forever?

2023.03.22 04:18 Proper-Youth-6296 I wish for some cosmetic changes

One thing that doesn’t make sense to me is trunks burning attack. It’s on his base form, but not on his super sayian form. I swear I’ve only seen him do it in his super sayian form in the anime. I run super sayian trunks, and before that I ran base trunks with the burning attack. I was disappointed when I noticed it wasn’t available for his new form. I’d also like to see some outfits from dragon ball super.

2023.03.22 04:13 AdOne8250 Second Post

Team RWBY, Jaune and Neo fell into the void when they encountered a strange portal that appeared out of nowhere. Without warning, they were all sucked into the Void and separated into different worlds.
Weiss found herself in a strange new world, filled with powerful warriors who could shoot energy beams out of their hands. She soon learned that she was in the world of Dragon Ball Z and had been genetically altered into a Saiyan, a powerful race of warriors.
Confused and scared, Weiss wandered the barren wastelands until she was found by Goku and Vegeta. Initially wary of her, they listened to her story and learned of her plight. Despite their initial skepticism, they decided to help Weiss and teach her how to control her newfound powers.
Weiss was a quick learner, and soon she was able to harness her Saiyan abilities to become a formidable fighter. She trained tirelessly with Goku and Vegeta, and began to develop a strong bond with the latter.
Over time, Weiss began to take on more and more of Vegeta's personality traits. She became fiercely competitive and driven, always pushing herself to be the best. And while she still respected Goku, it was clear that her loyalty lay with Vegeta.
Finally, after months of training, Weiss felt ready to take on the powerful foes that threatened her world. With Goku and Vegeta by her side, she faced off against some of the most dangerous villains in the Dragon Ball Z universe.
Despite the odds against them, the trio emerged victorious time and time again. Weiss had found a new purpose in this strange new world, and was determined to use her powers to protect it at all costs.
And so, with her newfound strength and determination, Weiss continued to fight alongside Goku and Vegeta, forging a new path for herself in this strange and wonderful world.
After three years of training and fighting alongside Goku and Vegeta, Weiss began to notice something strange. Despite the passage of time, she didn't seem to be aging like a normal Saiyan. She had always been aware of her unique origins, but now she began to wonder if her genetic alterations had given her more than just superhuman strength.
As she pondered this mystery, a massive power suddenly appeared on the planet. Goku and Vegeta immediately recognized the threat and set out to investigate. As they made their way through the dense woods, they came across a small child sitting alone in a clearing.
The child's name was Mal, and he appeared to be just four years old. However, there was something about him that set off alarm bells in Goku's mind. He spoke to King Kai, who revealed that Mal was actually the reincarnation of an old enemy, Cell.
Goku knew that he couldn't let this potential threat go unchecked, so he decided to take Mal under his wing and train him himself. At first, Vegeta was skeptical of the idea, but he eventually came around and agreed to help.
As they trained Mal, they could see that he had the potential to be just as dangerous as his predecessor. But they also saw something else in him, a glimmer of goodness that seemed to shine through the darkness.
Over time, Mal grew stronger and more skilled, but he also began to show a sense of empathy and compassion that was rare in a being of his power. Goku and Vegeta were proud of the progress he had made, but they also knew that they needed to keep a close eye on him.
As the years went by, Mal continued to grow in power and wisdom. He became a trusted ally of Goku and Vegeta, and together they faced some of the greatest threats the universe had ever seen.
Through it all, Weiss remained by their side, a constant source of strength and support. She had come to love this world and its inhabitants, and she was determined to do whatever it took to protect them.
And so, the four of them continued on their journey, united by a common purpose and a bond that could never be broken. They knew that there would always be new challenges to face and new enemies to defeat, but they were ready for whatever lay ahead.
As the years went by, Weiss continued to train and hone her skills as a Saiyan warrior. She showed incredible potential, surpassing even Goku's expectations. She was able to attain the forms of Super Saiyan easily, and even managed to master Super Saiyan 3, a feat that Goku had thought was impossible for anyone other than him.
Weiss's mastery of Super Saiyan 3 was truly incredible. She was able to stay in the form for hours on end, while Goku himself could only manage it for a few minutes at most. Her power was unmatched, and she quickly became one of the strongest warriors in the universe.
But despite her incredible power, Weiss remained humble and kind. She developed a close bond with Mal, the reincarnation of Cell, and treated him like a younger brother. She encouraged him to push himself to new heights, and even forced him to figure some things out on his own.
Through her bond with Mal, Weiss rediscovered the sibling-like bond she had with her own sister, Winter. She realized that family was more than just blood, and that the bonds of friendship and camaraderie were just as strong.
As the years went by, Weiss and Mal continued to train and fight alongside Goku and Vegeta. They faced some of the toughest challenges the universe had to offer, but they always emerged victorious. They were a team, a family, united in their quest to protect the universe they loved.
And so, the years passed, and Weiss continued to grow stronger and more skilled. She became a legend in her own right, a warrior whose power was matched only by her kindness and compassion. She had found a new home in this strange new world, and she knew that she would always fight to protect it, no matter what challenges lay ahead.
As the portal appeared, Weiss knew it was time to go back home and finish off Salem once and for all. Mal decided to go with her, and while Goku and Vegeta offered their help, Weiss declined, saying that her and Mal together were more than enough to handle the task.
With heavy hearts, they said their goodbyes, knowing that it might be the last time they would ever see each other. Weiss was saddened by the thought of leaving behind the friends she had made in this new world, but she knew that her duty lay elsewhere.
Weiss and Mal stepped through the portal, and found themselves in a vast desert surrounded by a horde of Grimm. Without hesitation, they flew up into the air, and Weiss powered up to Super Saiyan 2, her golden hair spiking up and electricity crackling around her.
She announced to Salem that her days were numbered, and then proceeded to annihilate the Grimm horde with ease. She knew that Salem was watching, and she wanted to send a message loud and clear.
After the battle, Weiss was reunited with her old friends, Team RWBY and Jaune. They were stunned by how much she had changed, but they were also overjoyed to see her again.
Weiss explained her plan to defeat Salem once and for all, and her friends agreed to help in any way they could. They knew that it would be a tough battle, but they were determined to see it through to the end.
Together, they set out on their quest to defeat Salem and restore peace to their world. They faced incredible challenges and fought against impossible odds, but they never gave up.
In the end, their determination and courage paid off. They were able to defeat Salem and restore peace to their world once and for all.
As the dust settled and the world began to heal, Weiss knew that she had found her true purpose in life. She had gained incredible power and strength, but she had also learned the importance of compassion and friendship.
And as she looked back on her journey, she knew that she would never forget the lessons she had learned, or the friends she had made along the way.

This obviously isn't the sort of list that would have a lot of reusability (unless you're in a campaign with a lot of traveling between planets or mortal planes), but it's something that was on my mind long ago and I figured now's as good a time as any. Many of these could be the basis of an entire setting, and I really really wanna do it :(
Also, as you read these, consider how the moon appears in Earth's symbols and designs. A world with funky moons will have them show up differently in heraldry, flags, etc. than in our world. Not to mention the religious significance many of these would have.
1 - The moon has a massive bite out of it.
2 - The moon is heavily damaged, with debris floating all around. Some legends say it was a giant egg that hatched the sun god (of the first dragon, or the tarasque, or the creator god). Other legends say it was destroyed in a war or by a god.
3 - The moon emits very bright light, while the sun projects darkness.
4 - The moon projects darkness.
5 - Many many lights are visible on the moon, as if it is covered in cities.
6 - The moon has a thick atmosphere of some color, with swirling clouds that are looked to by some cultures for omens.
7 - The moon is a planet; the world we live on is its moon.
8 - The moon is extremely close to the ground. Its gravity creates colossal waves, leaving most coastal regions too difficult to inhabit. Airships have managed to reach the moon at midnight, and it is explored instead of the sea.
9 - The moon is quite close to the planet and has a giant space elevator dangling off and into our atmosphere. People have reached it from the highest mountains.
10 - The moon is said to be an egg.
11 - The moon has a kind face.
12 - The moon has a terrifying face.
13 - Just as the sun blinds those who look at it too long, the moon drives them mad.
14 - The moon was completely destroyed long ago and now forms a ring. Meteorites from it have fallen ever since.
15 - There are a large number of moons arranged in a circle.
16 - The moon blinks as if it were an eye, causing brief moments of total darkness throughout the night like a reverse lightning strike.
17 - The moon is a world like ours, with oceans and continents full of life. The life there may be fundamentally different or very similar.
18 - The moon is the homeworld of some race on our world, but it met a catastrophe long ago, leading to them becoming refugees.
19 - The moon is a ringworld.
20 - The moon is a second sun that was extinguished long ago. The world was once much hotter and covered in desert and jungle. They say that one day the other sun will be extinguished too, beginning the final era of existence.
21 - The moon has an additional phase beyond full, new, crescent, gibbous, and half. When the moon is awoken, the dead rise for the night(s)
22 - When the moon falls, it lands in the ocean a very long distance away, then emerges from the ocean on the opposite side of the world. Many explorers have sought to find the land known as Moonrise to harvest the treasures that are said to be found on the moon before it reaches Moonfall.
23 - The moon has a hole through the center of it, with an exposed burning orange core.
24 - The moon is permanently eclipsing a second sun, which is associated with destruction and evil.
25 - The moon is a gigantic, shriveled creature curled up in a fetal position.
26 - The moon is a gigantic skull.
27 - The moons hates us. With every beam of light that bounces off its regolith it sends us nothing but malice. Its gravity well directs meteorites towards us more than should be expected.
28 - There are dozens upon dozens of small moons.
29 - There are a few moons connected together by some superstructure.
30 - The moon was deconstructed into thousands of huge glowing space habitats in orbit around the planet.
31 - The moon projects a massive aura.
32 - The moon is creeping towards us, ever do slowly.
33 - The moon's motion is controlled by a powerful individual or organization in our world.
34 - The moon is a superweapon aimed directly at us.
35 - The moon is shaped like Arrokoth or another contact binary.
36 - The moon is one of the others on this list, but is connected to our world by an ancient portal network. The moon is probably one of the options that are colonized or have life, but if not, it could be that activating this network to drain away the world's oxygen is a goal of some villain, and ancient dungeons could have been built to protect the moongates in their depths.
37 - The moon is a giant spaceborne creature that is entirely alive and active, unlike #35. It blinks at us and feasts on void-krill/dreams/souls/sin.
38 - The moon used to be a colossal tree on our world, a tree of life so big that it became uprooted and drifted into orbit. If it isn't fossilized, then when the moontree peaks out from over the horizon during the day its leaves get scorched, and when out only at night it is frozen.
39 - The moon is a palace where a god or the greatest god-emperor to ever live dwells.
40 - The moon is made out of trillions of bones.
41 - The moon is entirely colonized and utilized by modrons. The whole surface is visibly divided into a perfectly ordered grid, and each square serves a different purpose. Some are being deconstructed to build constructs in Mechanus.
42 - The moon shoots out lightning during "moonstorms".
43 - The moon is a different geometrical shape. A cube, a pyramid, a dodecahedron, etc. Possibly several moons, one for each shape of die used in D&D.
44 - A legendary figure carved a grand symbol into the moon. Or a smiley face, one of those.
45 - The moon is branded with a magical sigil, causing it to cast a zone of truth over everything touched by the moonlight.
46 - The moon is branded with a magical sigil, causing it to turn everything touched by the moonlight into a wild magic zone.
47 - The moon is branded with a magical sigil, putting everything in the moonlight inside an antimagic field.
48 - The moon is a colossal coin. Rather than full or new moon, the phases are heads or tails, and it's random every night.
49 - The moon is a vampire. Blood slowly flows upwards to it at night time, causing beacons of glistening red at night in places where things have been killed during the day. Battlefields become crimson waterfalls at night. Some blood stays in the air as sanguine clouds - they say those spirits haven't moved on to the afterlife, and during the blood-rain they haunt the world.
50 - The moon pulsates in many different colors, the patterns being used by diviners to tell the future.
51 - The moon makes the night nearly as bright as day, but less hot.
52 - The moon flashes like a strobe light, making seeing at night even harder.
53 - The moon is a magical illusion, and because this is common knowledge it appears transparent.
54 - The moon shoots concentrated beans of moonlight down at any humanoids it sees outside during night-time. Most likely live underground, in massive structures, or under forest canopies.
55 - The moon speaks to everyone at night through telepathy. It is nearly all-knowing because of this, but great at keeping secrets. This may be how the Common language spread.
56 - The moon is the slumbering form of Atropus, the World Born Dead. (next bunch is from u/quantumturnip)
57 - The moon is a dead eldritch abomination that periodically hijacks people for unknown long-term goals.
58 - The moon houses a portal to another dimension, used as a methods of escape by the gods during some long-forgotten war.
59 - Long ago, a wizard got tired of worldly politics and left for the moon. He is now a lich and has his own magical research facility on the moon, populated by sentient undead.
60 - Multiple rival countries have established their own bases on the moon. None of them are aware that their rivals also have moonbases. Or maybe they are, it's your setting - go wild.
61 - Literally just a giant ball of cheese in space. (also, u/World-of-Ideas thought of this too, but I'm keeping it as just the one entry)
62 - The moon has its' own moons orbiting it
63 - The moon is chained to the surface of the planet
64 - The moon changes color each month, and a year is measured by the color cycle.
65 - There is a giant fingerprint on the moon.
66 - That’s no moon. It’s a space station. (u/infinitum3d)
67 - The moon is the eye (artificial, real) of some giant planet sized being, that lost its eye. (u/World-of-Ideas for the next bunch)
68 - The moon is a giant space station built by some ancient race.
69 - The moon is actually a giant colony ship. It delivered the original colonist to this world so long ago, that no one remembers.
70 - The moon is the shed carapace of some giant space creature.
71 - The moon is a planetary shield generator. It is meant to keep something imprisoned on the planet.
72 - The moon is a planetary shield generator. It is meant to (block the frequent meteor storms, keep outsider out, reduce solar radiation because the planet is too close to the sun).
73 - The moon is a hole in this reality. If one travels through it they would end up in a solar system in another dimension.
74 - The moon is an illusion. For some reason only the natives of this world can see the moon and the light that is reflects. Travelers from other worlds can't see it.
75 - The moon can only be seen by those who will die tonight. (u/mil_a1)
76 - The moon disappears for months at a time. (u/mil_a1)
77 - The moon is hollow and strange things live on the inside. (u/mil_a1)
78 - The moon is suspended above the world by chains that affix to the sky. Many of the chains are rusted through, and broken chains hang down from the moon. The longest of these broken chains drag thick gashes into the planet below. (u/Paydirt49)
79 - The equator of the moon is inscribed with a sentence though only half can be seen from the ground. (u/CommonlyQuixotic)
80 - The moon is a prison, housing a dangerous entity. (u/Daloowee)
81 - The moon is actually a highly sophisticated satellite designed to monitor the biggest threats contained on the planet. Manned by 2 chill guys Mike and Dave and their gazer pet, Goober. They are able to project themselves down to the planet and project the gazer as a beholder. (u/DrBeefsome)
82 - One of the most powerful spellcasters to ever live cast a spell that put a permanent sigil on the moon. If you copy the sigil onto a piece of paper and then step onto it, your viewpoint changes to be from the moon. (u/AlephBaker)
83 - The moon is replaced with a rift in time and space. (u/UmbramonOrSomething)
84 - The moon is rigged with explosives in case a threat erupts on the planet. (u/UmbramonOrSomething)
85 - The moon is made of thousands of different types of crystals smashed together into a ball. (u/UmbramonOrSomething)
86 - The moon is a giant, floating, white pig. (u/UmbramonOrSomething)
87 - The moon is actually an interstellar beast (think space whales) (u/UmbramonOrSomething)
88 - The moon is an eyeball and its different phases are just how much its eyelid has blinked. (u/Aspiring-Mutant) + The eye-moon tells you if your enemies are aware of your presence/how aware they are. The greatest thieves and assassins and that one kid who hid so well in Hide-And-Seek you had to file a police report are said to be able to black out the moon entirely just by crouching… (u/BuddyWhoOnceToldYou)
89 - The moon is anti-predictable. If you try and predict where or when it appears that is the one time/place it cannot be. (u/Metal-Teacher)
90 - The moon's phases control the moral compass of the planet's residents. (u/Metal-Teacher)
91 - The moon is in a highly eccentric orbit, causing massively different tides and gravitational effects. (u/Metal-Teacher)
92 - The moon, when it appears at noon and reflects light into a room, can cause a boon to goons. The boon is a familiar cat in a hat. (u/Metal-Teacher)
93 - The moons are in chaotic orbits, one day they might crash into one another. (u/Metal-Teacher)
94 - The moon is always opposite the sun, like it's hiding from it. For this reason, it is always red. (u/MitigatedRisk)
95 - The moon changes in size rather than waxing and waning (u/MitigatedRisk)
96 - If you look at the moon through a telescope, you're actually seeing the world at some point in the future (u/MitigatedRisk)
97 - The moon used to be a planet before someone sent it rocketing around the solar system. Warforged, Constructs, and similar beings still wander its long dead surface. (u/Kingsdaughter613)
98 - The moon is known as Vagabond (vague-a-bond). The moon is a mirror ball of astronomical size that makes the material plane accessible to all other planes of existence simultaneously. Thinning the metamorphic veil, meaning that you can take a walk into another plane of existence by accident (u/Emotional_Guillotine)
99 - The 72 Demon Sigils as moons (together known as Hell's Courtroom) (u/Emotional_Guillotine)
100 - The 7 archangels as moons (together known as the Radiant Citadel) (u/Emotional_Guillotine)
101 - The 12 zodiac and or astrology moons (u/Emotional_Guillotine)
102 - One moon per school of magic or plane of existence (u/Emotional_Guillotine)
103 - The 22 Alchemy Symbols as moons (u/Emotional_Guillotine)
104 - The 78 cards of a tarot deck as moons (u/Emotional_Guillotine)
105 - The 22 major arcana as moons (u/WashabePlus)

2023.03.22 03:58 Killergoose44 Thoughts on regulation C team

Hey all, first post or attempt at making a team for competitive. I've been toying with the idea of how best to compliment the Chien Pao + Dragonite core, and my list has come to this. I haven't gotten into itemization or spreads yet, but this sounds alright in my head.
Chien Pao + Dragonite for priority knockouts, ice spinner on Pao for psychic terrain shenanigans.
Palafin + Pelliper for tailwind setting and weather control, more priority with jet punch.
Last two I'm contemplating sableye + ceruledge for encore/disable fun and balance.
My other final 2 I'm considering is Scizor and amoongus, but Im seeing a glaring hole with that being no special attackers. Maybe Fluttermane and Bundle?
Edit: This is what I came up with in Showdown.
Chien-Pao @ Focus Sash Ability: Sword of Ruin Level: 50 Tera Type: Fairy EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe Jolly Nature - Ice Spinner - Sucker Punch - Protect - Brick Break
Dragonite @ Choice Band Ability: Inner Focus Level: 50 Tera Type: Normal EVs: 188 HP / 252 Atk / 68 Spe Adamant Nature - Extreme Speed - Dragon Claw - Earthquake - Low Kick
Palafin-Hero @ Life Orb Ability: Zero to Hero Level: 50 Tera Type: Water EVs: 204 HP / 252 Atk / 52 SpD Adamant Nature - Jet Punch - Flip Turn - Protect - Wave Crash
Pelipper @ Assault Vest Ability: Drizzle Level: 50 Tera Type: Ghost EVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 100 SpA Calm Nature IVs: 0 Atk - Tailwind - Protect - Hurricane - Hydro Pump
Flutter Mane @ Choice Specs Ability: Protosynthesis Level: 50 Tera Type: Grass EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Timid Nature IVs: 0 Atk - Dazzling Gleam - Moonblast - Shadow Ball - Power Gem

*BiscuitsGotNoJam * is recruiting active guildees! ^~^

What's your jam? :P
Final rank for Season 8
Lvl 39 Beacon, 90/90 Relics :)
BiscuitsGotNoJam is looking for new active members!
***We have 1 spot now, 3 additional spots starting Season 9! Send a request our way to join!
· Level 39 beacon, 90/90 relics, and growing!
· Masters rank+ by the end of each season from a core active group (our focus: avatar + abyss, but you are welcome to pick dragon, to mix with either avatar or abyss, especially if you only have 1 team built). Currently in top 500 for guildboss (master II) and top 2% for alliance.
· Active players please!!!! We are looking to fill spots with people who have at least one team for abyss or avatar and who will use up their tickets each round. Also please have alliance unlocked and spend at least one ticket so we can share ranking scores as a group :)
· We are friendly but not too chatty [no formal discord], so if you really need to communicate, throw a message in guild chat and as soon as someone sees it they will most likely respond :)
· If you need tutorials on team builds or meta, you can try copying the team of your guildees in the battle log who are doing lots of damage or checking out the many wikis, googledocs, youtube videos or reddit threads on them. If I see any team comp questions on guild chat I will do my best to answer them :)
· What's your jam??? (you can post it as your guild greeting if you like!)
BiscuitsGotNoJam is removing very inactive players from Season 9 onwards! We will remove:
  1. Anytime: No login for more than 14 days (unless you let us know when you will return). ***If you are away and can’t login, just let us know in chat and we will save your spot until you can login again, otherwise we will assume you are not coming back. Request/Rejoin any open spots later when you decide to play again ~ it's cool! :)
  2. After final Season end tally (~1 month): Less than 24/72 total tickets used (one third of 72 given per month) AND in bottom five ranking for activity (members ranked #25~30). Newer guildees have lots of flexibility in using tickets, as long as they have enough used by the very end season tally. We are trying to strike a balance between being chill for those times people get busy but also staying active :)
***All new members recruited within the first week of Season 9 will be subject to all inactivity rules.
***New guildees or returning guildees: If you joined or returned mid-season or later (Season 9-3+), you will be excluded from the end tally removal/rule 2 for the current season due to not having a full month to participate :)
Happy gaming,
See you in crk! ^~^

2023.03.22 03:21 sithdude24 Arkham City is so much better than Arkham Asylum

I was iffy on the first game. It was fun, but nothing special in my opinion. Here's a review if you're interested: https://old.reddit.com/BatmanArkham/comments/11t3li1/just_finished_arkham_asylum_here_are_my_thoughts/
But City showed me why I hear people talk about this series. Better characters, combat, and movement all make the game much more fluid. The intro is amazing, too. One of the best game intros I've ever seen.
Visuals: No significant change from the original. Faces look better, but environments are even more homogenous. The only unique feeling location was Wonder City. Somehow they managed to make a museum filled with a monster's trophies look the same as the rest of the game, and it's honestly disappointing.
The story was better. Finding the League of Assasins in Wonder City was especially cool, with Ra's Al Ghul's boss fight standing out. Joker's poisoning was a good plot point, and getting to see "that actually is... pretty funny" in context was cool. Strange and Joker were great villans, and Penguin was fun too. Two-Face was kinda lame though.
Catwoman's inclusion feels weird to me. She only has 3 segments in the game, one set after the story, and literally none of them matter. She could have disappeared after batman saved her and nothing would have happened. They really expect me to believe he couldn't get out from under that rubble? I enjoy her gameplay, but it feels so simplistic compared to Batman's. She has few gadgets, though the whip and caltrops are fun. Her movement could have been done better, in my opinion. It just feels so slow compared to Batman. Maybe she should have had super-speed, idk. I do like her mini-game to climb, but it should benefit her over Batman somehow. Still though, I guess i can't complain about an extra playable character. I'd rather have her than not.
They vastly improved the combat. While I prefer the attack animations in the original, the new special combo attacks and focus mode make this version much better. Also, the auto-targeting feels more accurate. My biggest gripe is the change to quickfire gadgets. I really miss having easy to reach buttons for them instead of using numbers. It's not a huge deal, but I wish there was a button that quick-fired your current gadget.
The bosses are so much better. Sure, most of them boil down to dodging and quick-firing, but they're visually spectacular and diverse. Even the bosses that had you fight a bunch of enemies were more unique, like Joker's fight in the Steel Mill.
The stealth in this game was worse, though. The more bomb made it too easy, and it felt like rooms weren't designed as well for it. The new mechanics are interesting, though.
Having collected all the Riddler Trophies for both characters, I'll say that people exaggerated how annoying they were. Sure there's a lot of them, but most are fun enough. The challenge rooms were a lot of fun, especially the third and fourth ones.
I enjoyed a lot of the side-quests. Mad Hatter, Deadshot, and Zsaz were all really fun. I didn't like when exact points to search weren't given, though.
I haven't played any modes other than the main story so far, but I can confidently say that this game is great! I'm excited to see where Arkham Knight pushes the series.
Edit: The death screen quotes were way worse though . Kinda sad, I really liked them in the first game but they fall kinda flat here.
