Don't Feed The Pumpkins
2023.03.21 21:53 m80mike Don't Feed The Pumpkins
A rule breaking truck driver takes a forbidden detour.
Don't Feed the Pumpkins
I'm typing this as a record of what has happened to me. If someone should find me out here, where ever here is, this is what happened and who is responsible. Also, out of the dozens of vehicles bogged down in this field, mine is the Blue Jay 2013 Freight Liner. If I should die and it is recoverable, it should go to my son, John Grainger in Antioch, Illinois.
I left Litchfield Illinois around 2pm on Halloween with a last-minute load of pumpkins destined for the Antioch Walmart. Despite the fact I was once that told Illinois is the #1 pumpkin producer in the country the itself state appears to be in the midst of a shortage. I was due in about 8pm, but I was trying get in by 6pm and after unloading, I was going to visit my wife Carly and my son for Halloween. It was going to be the first Halloween in my son's life that I was going to be there for trick o treating. My wife was making a big deal out of it and John was 10 now, so, she said he would be “scarred with disappointment” if I didn't show now. So, I probably should have gotten better sleep the night before and sue me, I was gear jamming and popping go-pills like popcorn. Don't look down on me, don't be fooled, this is just the nature of the trucking industry. Everyone does it and I'm not afraid to tell it like it is.
Just after Normal on 39 I hit a wall of traffic. I could hear on the CB that there is a hazmat incident up ahead and they require special teams to clear it off. I, like the other truckers, get to gabbing on the radio, looking for shortcuts. To my surprise, after scrutinizing this route several times before, I was informed about a “gutshot” shortcut just ahead that could get in me into my destination at least an hour earlier, even with the fact I had sat in the backup for at least 45 minutes at this point. A second comrade in gears piped in and stated that the shortcut was closed. The first driver contradicted him and stated, he had used it two weeks ago, it was wide open country land you could go 70 the whole way, and the only town along the way had burned down in an industrial accident 30 years ago. The second trucker chimed in again. He said it was closed for tonight and only tonight and not to use it. I disregarded the second trucker, exited the interstate and followed the directions of the first trucker.
Well, Carly, you always said it would be this way. You always said, I needed to learn how to follow directions to not cut so many damn corners all the time. You always told me didn't put in the work, and the funny thing is, for the first time, on this drive, get there, I did. Sure, I cut all the corners, but I wanted to to put in the work. But you're right, I never put a second of effort in, and if this is how it ends, I suppose you're right, I never will. But I guess, one way or another, you're getting what you've wanted, what you text me, what you don't tell me about, and what I didn't care about. I was coming home for him and damn it, I know it won't hold up in court but I want my boy to get the damn truck!
Anyway, I found the road, 2 lanes clear to the sky, surrounded by corn and then pumpkin fields forever. My straight shot, I pushed 80 the whole way flying on cracked asphalt, diesel, and go-pills. Ahead, there were barricades and I applied the brakes and barely stopped in time. I got out and saw they were chained up with a padlock to concrete posts in the ground. In theory, I could blast through them but I would sustain serious damage. The ground was a bit wet so I didn't think I could cross the ditch and field and not get stuck either. The barricades were not official in the least. They had a sign on them made out of it mailbox stick-on letters which said: “Do Not Feed The Pumpkins”. As far as I could see from my cab and binoculars, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the damn road. I said hell and I knew it would take hours to reverse course and get back in time – in time to even unload much less make it in time to go trick o treating.
And I said it wasn't worth it. I didn't bother to call. I'd just show up now. Because it wasn't my fault. So I started back, turning around with great difficulty. I traveled back 2 miles and saw small signs for a rest area. I must have missed it the first time, too deep into the zone I suppose now. I needed to pee and probably eat a bit before starting a roundabout way back, so I stopped. It was a little old 2 story joint with a small dinner on the 1st level and looked like 4 or 5 small motel rooms on top and oddly an outhouse for a restroom. I want to emphasize the outhouse because that is how you'll find and catch this guy, the guy who did this to me. It was Bill Shaw of Shaw's Shack, who did this to me. It had a sign with the building, it too was made of stick-on letters and vaguely resembled a huge ransom note. It read “Yes! We are open! We are the only rest area for 67 miles and 1 of 2 “tombstones” for the late great town of Pumpkin Grove Illinois – the former pumpkin capital of Illinois. Ask Your host, Bill Shaw about the Pumpkin-beef-bean stew!
The parking lot had three vehicles in it, not including my own, a silver Prius, a grand cheeroke with wood panels, and an older model chevy pick up truck. I went inside. The dinner was small, set in a rustic décor with old license plates nailed to the walls. The cafe had eight counter seats and two smaller tables near the two windows. There were two witnesses to what happened that night, to what Bill Shaw did – at least partial witnesses. There was the older man with stringy white hair and octagonal glasses – unfortunately, I didn't get his name. There was that irritating millennial – All I remember is the metal crap in her ears and lip. Hell, if I die and John starts ever pulling that crap, I'll come back and haunt the crap out of both of you. Anyway, now, I wish I could remember their names or something else about them to put here. I didn't care about either one of them enough to remember.
I guess that goes for Shaw too. He was a bit taller as sometimes I couldn't see his face while sitting at the counter because of the low lights in the ceiling blocking his face. He had gray hair. Hell. That's it. Anyway, the old man said he was part of a historical society, said he spent the better part of his past two years tracking down anyone or anything about Pumpkin Grove. The college student – of course – it was college student said she was from the school newspaper, looking for a spooky story. When she asked me where I was from, I didn't respond.
Shaw came from the kitchen with two big bowls of the famous Pumpkin-beef-bean stew for first two. He seemed taken back by my presence for a bit before saying “howdy” and trying to get real friendly with me. He asked what media I was from. I told him I wasn't from no media and I was trying to get through the barricade up ahead. Neither of the other two seemed to know about the barricade. Shaw said he didn't know anything about it either. I was suspicious of him then because of the lettering on the signs. But I didn't push it. I wanted to eat and he said my choice was the stew or stew. So the stew seemed fine. He said he wished he had more time to chat with me but he promised to tell the story of Pumpkin Grove to the two others but I was welcome to listen and ask questions. I didn't say it but I couldn't care less, I was going no where fast and I needed to eat.
He started off by saying he and his wife are among a handful of survivors of the fire that consumed the town of Pumpkin Grove some 30 years ago on Halloween night. Then his story descended into a cross between a rambling fading nightmare and a ghost story. He said, without hesitation, fear of consequence or remorse that he was accessory to a murder in his childhood. Specifically, some 40 years ago, again on Halloween, he was friends with a small group of young men including one named Donnie, who was a little slow and had a slightly misshaped head. He was picked on a lot by the Gerst Brothers, notorious town bullies and teenage thugs of a bad seed thanks to their neglectful alcoholic single father. Long story short, he said, the Gerst Brothers lured Donnie, himself and another 2 boys out to a pumpkin field where they gave back Donnie's missing dog. Apparently they kidnapped the dog and wrapped every inch of it in duct tape a few days ago. They watched us try to peel and pull the duct tape off while the weakened, hungry, and thirsty dog whimpered away its last in the field. Unbeknownst to any of us, Donnie had a pocket knife and he lost it as the Gerst Brothers cackled around him and the dead dog. He leaped up as they laughed and sliced the vein on their necks. One of the Brothers died quickly while Donnie and the two others fought the other to death. Shaw said he just stood there, covered in arterial blood splatters, watching Donnie and the others finish off the Gersts.
Much of the town was shockingly grateful to hear the Gerst Brothers were dead and everyone was all too happy to sweep it under the rug rather than have 4 of their sons incarcerated for decades when they were needed to help with the town's bread and butter – the Pumpkins. So, they buried the Gerst Brothers in that field and grew pumpkins on their corpses and no one really talked about it. The town paid off their father, who was too inebriated most of the time to care and he gleefully drank himself to death on the payoff only about a year later.
I didn't have much of a reaction to the story. The historian on the other hand, was hesitant to stay and keep writing and he made a brief protest concerning whether or not the story was true and whether or not he could legally listen to it. Shaw said it was both true and legal. After all, there was nothing left of the town and the remains were long gone and he himself, would not bare witness to himself. The college student's dumb metal encrusted mouth was agape in a mix of horror and disbelief.
I was waiting, patiently, might I add, for my stew. Shaw promised it would be up soon. He continued the story, stating that the fields produced abnormally well afterwards and 10 years later he was visiting his parents with his girlfriend for the annual Pumpkin fest. It was just that the pumpkins weren't just more numerous and larger, or more resistant to the rains and the fungus, they were alive and nothing could keep them tame or from spreading wider and wider. And everyone thought this was great at first, the profits were never higher but then weird things began to happen. Equipment went missing and two farm hands were crushed by a wagon full of pumpkins tipping over onto them in what was at first called a freak accident. Shaw recounted how he took his girlfriend through one of the patches and the vines seem to wind and grapple her legs, of course, Shaw's folks passed it off as her not being used to the mud but Shaw said he knew better.
Shaw continued to describe that over the days that led up to Halloween, the Jack O Lanterns on people's porches and elsewhere began to do some unusual things. Things like seemingly move by themselves from dusk to dawn, changing the carvings of their faces slightly, or appearing to “jump” off a table onto the porch without damage or apparent cause. On the morning of Halloween, Shaw said that he found his black cat, Lucky, incinerated in front of a jack o lantern as if it had breathed fire on to it from its mouth though they had long ago blown out the candle inside.
After the cat burning, the elderly man from the historical society tossed his spoon in his bowl. Shaw asked if something was wrong. The elderly man got up to leave and he said it tasted like bitter cold bull and his story was bull and thanked him for nothing. After checking the remaining contents of his bowl of stew, Shaw chased him out of the door, to his car, asking him what direction he planned to go home. When he peeled out of the parking lot he was headed southwest. Shaw came back in and threw up his hands.
I tell nothing but the truth, he said, most people can't handle it. Part of me wanted to go, but I was cozy there, it was warm and the story, while bull to me at the time, was entertaining enough. The SJW sitting down the way looked exhausted, barely keeping her eyes open as Shaw finished out the story. In short he said, Donnie approached him at dusk on Halloween while he and his family sat on the porch eagerly awaiting trick o treaters. Donnie said the Gerst Brothers are alive in the pumpkins and that they planned to burn the whole town down tonight. Donnie said, he had to tell Shaw because Shaw wasn't supposed to die, he was supposed to watch.
I rudely stopped him and demanded more stew. I was still hungry and the stew was somehow unsatisfying. When he returned, he finished the story, stating the town was suddenly engulfed in flames and their house in particular with Donnie on the porch, flash burned to the ground like napalm from an exploding pumpkin. He escaped with his family and his future wife in the pick up truck sitting outside now.
The college student said she felt like she needed to lay down, that she didn't think she could make back to the campus to the north. Shaw attended to getting her one of the rooms upstairs. I stayed down stairs and went to the back for more stew. I rubbed my eyes intensely and felt as if I too should stay for the night. But in the tug of war between fatigue and dexrine, the dexrine was slowly coming out ahead.
Next to the stew was a cutting board and a knife and on it was some bluish whitish powder which I found peculiar. On floor was a bottle of medication. It was Insomnex – a sleeping pill I use when I'm coming off of dexrine. The stew was dosed.
I ran to my truck and pulled out my dexrine and my revolver. As I climbed out of the driver's side, I could see Shaw running out of the dinner with a huge kitchen knife. I ducked under the trailer and back out on his side and pointed the gun at him.
What the hell I asked as I slowly advanced on him with my snub nose pointed at his head. He dropped the knife. He said, I just wanted to puncture your tires, I had to do something to stop you. I know you want to go north and I know you might be crazy enough and your truck tough enough to smash the barricades but I can't let you. I can't let anyone else go through, he said hysterically. I asked the dumb question about whether or not he set the barricades and just as I previously suspected, he did.
I'm supposed to watch, Shaw cried. No one can get through tonight, no can be allowed to. I told him to shut up as he rambled on about how he and his wife took it upon themselves to ward off travelers on Halloween Night. Its a cursed road tonight, he said, we're cursed to stay here and this is the best we can do to stop it from spreading. Its been calling us for 30 years, he went on, we tried to walk away but it kept on spreading, the pumpkins, he said gritting his teeth in anguish.
Maybe it was the dexrine and the insomnex working together, hell maybe it was the stew by itself but I just started to laugh as I guided Shaw back into the dinner and proceeded to duct tape him down to the dinner chair to make sure he could not cause anymore harm to anyone else until the police arrived. I had some cash on me, I wasn't a criminal, I wasn't going to make it seem like I tied him up and dinned and dashed, I was in the right, I was doing the lawful thing. So I left him exact change, no tip for the food. In the process of making change for myself, I found the padlock key in the cash drawer, I was certain of it at the time as I waved it in front of Shaw and he gasped and thrashed behind the duct tape the hardest.
I got into my truck and gunned it north towards the barricades, which, as I suspected was easily opened with the key I confiscated from Shaw. I got on my CB and started making emergency calls to the State Police, I gave them my name, the location of the diner, and Shaw's name. I was in the middle of nowhere so it didn't surprise me when I got static and no acknowledgment. I had no bars on my cell phone either but that is typical of central Illinois.
I was going along about 70. The sun was almost down but I hadn't seen the moon yet. I turned on the radio and found a classic rock station. The song was Born on the Bayou from CCR. The opening riff perked me up and reassured me that I had done everything all well and all good. If things held, there was a chance, I could get my freight unloaded and see John tonight. I was eagerly tapping the steering wheel waiting to bust into “When I was just a little boy...” But just as the lyrics should have entered, the radio station seemed to have accidentally reset the song, it just started over.
The sun faded away entirely and yet no moon came up. The sky was so dark but I didn't remember seeing any clouds or expecting any for that matter. The song continued restarting itself, the same opening again and again. I flipped through the other stations and all of them had it playing. Eventually, the digital clock on my dash began to spin wildly like the LCD numbers on the tuner while in scan mode. The truck buffeted and shook side to side despite my headlights showing no cause for it.
To my shock, ahead, in the distance was single traffic light. It was went from green, to yellow, and red, as any other traffic light but there were no lights or towns on this road. I slowed to 40, then 35 then to 30 as I entered an unnamed densely populated area with small buildings, stores, and houses and one traffic light. I came to a stop at the light and I looked around, locked my doors and tried to glimpse where I was. Where ever I was, I felt, I felt like I shouldn't be there. There were dim orange lights in some of the rooms of the houses at the edge of the intersection.
I looked up at one of the windows and I saw a figure with large head in the window. I couldn't believe my eyes at least not until the figure turned to face outward. It was a jack o lantern, a classic one with a black glow where the eyes, nose, and mouth sat. It was held up right by a thin vine structure that seemed to grow and stretch as it stuck its head out of the window and let out a barely audible shrill whistle and stared directly at me.
I gunned it. I blew the red light as the town seemed to collapse into nothing by dark green swelling pumpkin vine and a sea of glowing jack o lanterns in my side view mirrors. I hit the radio off because all I could hear on it was that whistle filtering through. I drove and the mass of jack o lanterns grew in the mirrors. I glimpsed the left and right windows and the plains were glowing black with more pumpkins rolling and creeping towards the road.
The road began to warp and bend as I started to red line my truck. The buffeting side to side became difficult to control as the engine groaned. I couldn't explain how the road began to shift nor how the moon, blood orange began to circle around me from horizon to horizon. Aside from the moon, I thought I was making progress as I couldn't see the vines nor the hundreds of blacklight pumpkins swirling after me.
The moon slowed and dipped down and I started climbing a hill. As I crested, the moon filled the entire windshield and more. It spun and then settled on a black light pumpkin face and bore down on the cab.
I don't know what happened next but I woke up in my cab. The was engine smoking. All I could see was mud and putrid rotten pumpkins as far as I could see. My Blue Jay was sunk up to the cab down in mud, vines and rot. It wasn't going anywhere in it without some serious assistance. To my right and left I saw dozens of other vehicles, most of them at least ten years old, also up their doors in mud and rot. Swarms of flies were visible all around in the boiling midday sun. I'm not really sure how long it has been or what time it really was because the clock on my phone is broken and simply reads as 99:99. I don't know what day it is. I have no cell signal and no radio.
Carly, I need to be honest with you. I cheated on you. Maybe a dozen times. I did it before I thought, before I knew you were doing it to me. I can't live by the rules of trucking, or marriage or anything. It is the road and you command it and that is the only rule. But now, I'm worried I've broken my last rule. I have no food and no water. There is no road here. There is only rule of a blazing sun with jack o lantern face that never sets. I fear that in time, unless I find help or help finds me, I will be feeding the pumpkins.

2023.03.21 21:34 Kevo_1227 Gearing a fresh 80 isn't that hard, actually
I recall a few weeks ago a big discussion about people having a hard time getting groups for 5mans as a fresh 80. It boiled down to "Everyone only wants to do H+ and my gear isn't good enough for H+ so what do?!?!"
At the time I was leveling a warlock alt on my off nights. Last night I got that warlock to level 80. With less than 1 hour /played I finished my daily H+. Here's how I did that.
First the gear. I had a bag filled with ilvl 200-225 BoEs already enchanted and gemmed before hitting 80. Some of it was stuff like Dragon Prow Amulet (
https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=37290/dragon-prow-amulet ). Some of it was stuff like Ebonweave Robe (
https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=42101/ebonweave-robe) Some of it was stuff like Combustion Bracers (
https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=45291/combustion-bracers). All of it was cheap, and I was able to fill every slot except for my wand.
Boom. Now my gear is high enough quality to be done or near-done with regular heroics. The only people who'd remove me from group for being undergeared would be weirdos who only run 5mans with people who have their 4p conc set bonuses or something.
I hit 80, equipped everything, and then joined Group Finder looking *only* for the daily heroic with my note simply saying "H+." Most fresh 80s will look for group for all the dungeon at once and they'll put a note saying something like "Oh, uh, I just hit 80 17.5 hours ago and my gear score is only 3.2k and I hope it's okay and I know the fights and please be my friend uwu."
A lot of people talk about "just" getting PVP epics to bump up your gear score. I don't like this route for a few reasons. First, not everyone likes PVP. Also, getting into battlegrounds with no resilience as a fresh 80 is *way more painful* than trying to get into H+ groups. And it takes a long time to farm out enough honor to get fully kitted out. And most importantly, PVP gear sucks. The lack of secondary stats makes most PVP epics worse than ilvl 200 blues. Personally, if I was leading a PUG and someone messaged me saying "Oh hey I have a 4.2k gearscore!" and then rolled up with half of their slots filled with PVP gear I'd probably just replace them.
I didn't do any quests in Storm Peaks or Icecrown while leveling so the next couple of times I play this alt I will focus on clearing those 2 zones out. That will get my enough Emblems of Heroism for some small upgrades and enough gold to buy 232 crafted boots and belt. Runed Orbs are down below 400g each on my server making those items very accessible. I have no plans to farm Naxx. Maybe I'll hop on some skip runs if I happen to see one, but it won't be a goal to run it every week. I'll get some 213 and 232 gear from Emblems and keep my eye out for Uld10 pugs once most or all of my ilvl 200 gear is replaced.
There really is no reason to worry about progressing from dungeons to H+ to Naxx and then to Ulduar. Save some gold from quests. Buy some BoEs. Do your daily H+. Save emblems. Join Ulduar PUGs. Easy

Is there any gear in this game that I can equip that will allow me to run/walk faster through unsynced dungeons?
I'm trying to farm the ARR relic, and my tanks sprint is on cooldown too long.

2023.03.21 20:05 YumeKemono Got my first billion ED, but a little lost on what to use it for (EU)
Got back into Elsword again while I was bored because I find it fun to fill out my ESPC, and then got back into focusing on my main, which is a RT with as of now 1.75kk cp. I never really had an impactful IB set, just using Eligos and thought about getting SK, which will be releasing soon in EU, but I'm unsure if that's the best use of my ED right now, or if I should wait probably a full year till the Automata ib releases in EU.
Honestly, I'm quite unsure of what I should focus on buying with my ED. I don't think it'll be impactful to get my FoJ to +11 since I still won't be strong enough to be a dps in Berthe raid, and I've never actually done Berthe raid. I thought about focusing on my second main, a NP but it'll take a while to get him to 1.5kk cp to be able to get enter the raid. I think it's kinda sad that I'm "forced" to play a sup to get raid stuff for my main, even tho I really like playing as NP regardless.
It felt good to get all perfect mystic enchants for my RT's FoJ, but I feel like I don't do anything in the game. I can't really farm 15-3 for the acc or 15-4 for the title/acc, and other than that I feel like I've already done everything I could have done up to Pruinaum, except for reforge on rigo set and The Setting Sun title, and exp farm on Trosh's Nest. Oh, and also getting Artifact accs too, I only have one ring. Is this slow grinding all I can do right now in the game until I get stronger? Or can I use my ED for something good right now?
Here's my RT's ashal for reference:

2023.03.21 19:25 Luton_Enjoyer I used ChatGPT to write some stories about the boys of JAR Media. Here's what it came up with.
James, Alex, and Jamie had just settled into their recording studio, ready to record the latest episode of their podcast, JAR Media. As they were getting set up, they heard a loud banging at the door.
Curious but a little nervous, they cautiously opened the door, only to find a massive, muscular figure standing before them. The man was dressed in a black wrestling costume, complete with a mask and cape.
"Who are you?" Alex asked, his voice wavering a little.
"I am the evil wrestler!" the man roared, his voice booming through the small studio. "And I have come to take over your podcast!"
James, Alex, and Jamie looked at each other, unsure of how to react. They had never encountered anything like this before.
The wrestler stepped forward, flexing his muscles menacingly. "You three puny podcasters are no match for me!" he sneered.
James, Alex, and Jamie exchanged worried glances. They knew they had to think fast before things got out of hand.
"Wait, wait," Jamie said, holding up his hands. "We don't want any trouble. What do you want?"
The wrestler paused, taken aback by Jamie's calm demeanor. "I want to be a guest on your show," he said, his voice softening slightly. "I want to talk about my wrestling career and promote my upcoming matches."
James, Alex, and Jamie breathed a collective sigh of relief. They could handle a guest.
"Okay, that sounds reasonable," James said, gesturing for the wrestler to take a seat. "Let's talk."
Over the next hour, the wrestler regaled them with stories of his exploits in the ring, his victories, and his defeats. Despite his intimidating appearance, he was actually quite charming and entertaining.
When the podcast ended, the wrestler thanked them for having him and promised to return for another episode. As he left, James, Alex, and Jamie couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation.
"Who knew that the evil wrestler was actually a pretty cool guy?" Alex said, grinning.
James nodded in agreement. "I guess you can't judge a book by its cover," he said.
And with that, they packed up their equipment, excited to edit their latest episode of JAR Media, which was sure to be their most unique and memorable one yet.
Alex, James, and Jamie were an unlikely trio, with very different personalities and interests. But they all shared a passion for wine, and when they heard about the rare Australian goon wine that was said to be hidden deep beneath the caves of Swindon, they knew they had to find it.
Alex, who hated everything and everyone, was skeptical about the whole endeavor. "Why are we wasting our time with this?" he grumbled. "It's probably just a myth."
But James was undeterred. "Nonsense!" he exclaimed. "The goon is real, and we're going to find it!"
Jamie, the more level-headed of the three, was a bit hesitant but decided to go along with the adventure. They set out with a map of the caves, some flashlights, and a determination to succeed.
As they navigated the dark, winding tunnels, Alex grumbled about how he was getting too old for this kind of thing. James, on the other hand, was like a kid in a candy store, marveling at the rock formations and imagining what kind of cars could be driven in the caves.
Finally, after hours of searching, they came across a hidden chamber, filled with rows of dusty wine bottles. James let out a whoop of joy and rushed forward to examine the labels.
"Jackpot!" he exclaimed. "This is it, the Australian goon!"
Jamie and Alex both stared in disbelief as James carefully uncorked one of the bottles and took a sip. "Oh, this is amazing!" he said, smacking his lips in satisfaction.
Jamie and Alex were hesitant, but James persuaded them to try some. To their surprise, the wine was unlike anything they had tasted before, with a unique, fruity flavor that lingered on the tongue.
As they sat there, enjoying their discovery, Alex admitted that he had been wrong. "This was definitely worth it," he said with a rare smile.
And with that, the three friends clinked their glasses together and savored the rare, delicious wine they had found deep beneath the caves of Swindon.
James, Alex, and Jamie were taking a hike through the picturesque English countryside, each lost in their own thoughts. James was dreaming of driving a high-performance sports car down the winding roads, Alex was grumbling about the lack of excitement in his life, and Jamie was content just to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.
As they rounded a bend in the trail, they came across a group of penguins waddling towards them. At first, the men were confused - what were penguins doing in the middle of the English countryside? But as they got closer, they realized that these were no ordinary penguins - they were the penguins of Madagascar.
The penguins were on a secret mission and had somehow found themselves stranded in the English countryside. They explained their situation to the three men, who were initially skeptical but quickly found themselves caught up in the penguins' adventure.
James was fascinated by the high-tech gadgets the penguins used and offered to help repair their equipment. Alex, who hated everything, initially scoffed at the penguins' mission but eventually found himself admiring their determination and courage. Jamie, always practical, suggested they find a local farmer who could give the penguins shelter and food.
Together, the four groups made an unlikely team, working together to repair the penguins' equipment and find a way for them to complete their mission. Along the way, they encountered challenges and obstacles, but they never lost sight of their goal.
Despite their vastly different personalities and backgrounds, James, Alex, and Jamie found themselves growing closer as they worked with the penguins. They learned to appreciate each other's unique strengths and quirks and discovered that they had more in common than they had originally thought.
In the end, the penguins were able to complete their mission, and James, Alex, and Jamie were left with a newfound appreciation for the unexpected adventures that life can bring. As they said goodbye to their unlikely companions, they realized that sometimes the best experiences are the ones you never saw coming.
James, Alex, and Jamie had decided to meet up for a quick morning pint at their local Wetherspoons pub. They had just settled into a booth, each with a cold beer in hand, when they heard a commotion at the entrance.
Turning to look, they saw a massive, muscular figure standing in the doorway. He was dressed in a black wrestling costume, complete with a mask and cape.
"Who are you?" Alex asked, a note of apprehension in his voice.
The wrestler stepped forward, flexing his muscles menacingly. "I am the evil wrestler!" he bellowed. "And I have come to challenge you three puny podcasters to a match!"
James, Alex, and Jamie exchanged worried glances. They had no idea how to fight a wrestler, let alone an evil one.
But before they could say anything, the wrestler charged at them, his arms outstretched. James, Alex, and Jamie scrambled out of the way just in time, their pints spilling onto the floor.
"Enough!" Jamie shouted, holding up his hands. "We don't want to fight you. Can't we just talk this out?"
The wrestler paused, surprised by Jamie's calm demeanor. "Talk? What is there to talk about?" he growled.
"Well, we could interview you on our podcast," James suggested, hoping to defuse the situation. "You could tell us about your wrestling career and why you're so evil."
The wrestler seemed to consider this for a moment, then nodded slowly. "Okay, I'll do it. But I warn you, I'm not going to hold back. And if you make me look bad, there will be consequences."
James, Alex, and Jamie nodded nervously, grateful for the chance to avoid a physical confrontation. They quickly set up their recording equipment and began to interview the wrestler, who turned out to be surprisingly articulate and charming.
After the podcast ended, the wrestler thanked them for having him and left the pub without causing any further trouble. James, Alex, and Jamie breathed a sigh of relief and toasted each other with their now-refilled pints.
"Well, that was certainly unexpected," Alex said, grinning.
"Yeah, but at least we got a good episode out of it," James replied.
And with that, they settled back into their booth, sipping their beers and chatting about the morning's events.
As James munched on the suspicious chicken, he couldn't help but notice that it tasted different from what he was used to. "Hey, guys, does this chicken taste a bit off to you?" he asked, between bites.
Alex, who was sitting across the table from James, rolled his eyes. "I don't know, James," he said in a sarcastic tone. "Maybe it's because you're used to eating that garbage you call food."
James just shrugged off Alex's comment and continued eating. Meanwhile, Jamie, who was sitting next to James, had also noticed that the chicken didn't seem quite right. "Yeah, I'm not sure about this," he said, setting down his chicken wing.
Suddenly, James had an idea. "I know what we should do," he said, grinning. "Let's take my car and drive to the farm where they get their chickens. We'll see what's really going on."
Alex rolled his eyes again. "That's a terrible idea, James. We have no idea where the farm is, and even if we did, we can't just show up unannounced."
But James was determined. He wanted to show off his fancy car and prove that he was the coolest one in the group. "Come on, guys, it'll be an adventure," he said, revving the engine of his car.
Alex and Jamie exchanged a look but eventually gave in to James' enthusiasm. They piled into his car and set off towards the farm.
As they drove, James kept making sexist jokes and bragging about his car. Alex was annoyed, and Jamie was just trying to keep the peace. Eventually, they arrived at the farm and found that something fishy was indeed going on.
They discovered that the chickens were being fed a cocktail of chemicals and hormones to make them grow faster and bigger. James, Alex, and Jamie were horrified at the thought of consuming such unhealthy and unethical meat.
They decided to take action and started a campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of consuming chemically treated meat. James even offered to donate money from his car shows to support local farmers who practiced ethical and sustainable farming.
The trio may have started out with different priorities, but in the end, they all came together to fight for a good cause.

2023.03.21 18:45 jessica_byerly Restless boy
My boy is not neutered yet and is 5 months old. I work from home. We have had the same routine for the passes three months. We live in a rural area on a farm. This week our neighbors have started logging, so we have big equipment in the area. Since they showed up, he has been completely restless. Wondering around the house, barking, not satisfied. Just completely not his normal self. He is stressed I can tell. They will be here for two to three months. Any suggestions? He hears them and immediately goes into protector mode.

2023.03.21 18:02 GameMisconduct63 Planting a row (or multiple rows) of wildflowers in a cornfield for my honeybees - has anyone done it? Can I use a seeder?
I'll try to be concise - this is oddly specific and I was wondering if anyone else that keeps bees neaon agricultural land has done the same. My hives are all located next to a complex of barns on our property. We are just outside Columbus OH (Zone 6A). Surrounding this complex is roughly 300 acres of farmland. We typically just rotate soybeans and corn every other year. The bees have been up there for less than a year (we moved them there from our previous residential property), thankfully it didn't seem like they had issues finding food this past summer.
Can a seedeplanter be filled with a wildflower mix? Is a wildflower mix even a thing/something that a seeder could plant? Would it be easier to just do a bunch of one flower? Ideally having a strip 10' wide by maybe 300' long would be optimal. I've only got 6 hives here now, though am planning on expanding here, I figure worst case scenario there is extra food available for them in the field. I have no experience with the farming equipment itself, though our tenant is only a phone call away.
Thanks for any input or advice, I appreciate it

2023.03.21 17:20 keithplacer S16 The Action House: The Ravages of Age
| 100 Martin St. before any work began The major project of season 16 was The Acton House, a 1710 former farmhouse that was the oldest house in Acton, once part of a large farm most of which had been sold off over the years, and which now sat on 5 acres of quite attractive property at 100 Martin Street. The homeowners were Terry Maitland, trained as a journalist and historian, now a broker of high-dollar luxury homes, and Sima Maitland, a schoolteacher. Their house was largely original and while it looked large from the outside, the interior spaces were cramped and dated, with low ceilings and inadequate space for them and their three children, thanks in part due to the intrusion of the massive central chimney stack. A new addition off the east side was deemed the answer, and the Maitlands were prepared to contribute $150,000 to the project. A preliminary examination of the house by Norm and Tom revealed some dubious structure but they vowed not to try to fix every problem and only deal with what was necessary to accommodate the new addition. Ah, dreams… Homeowners Terry and Sima Maitland in a very '90s-looking shot The first order of business was getting a set of plans, so Chris Dallmus of Jock Gifford's Design Associates firm was called in and after numerous iterations, came up with plans for a 2-storey addition off the east side of the old place with a master suite, new kitchen, mud room, and family room. The old milk shed that currently occupied the site needed to be relocated, and proved to be an entertaining use of the Silva's creativity in sliding it out of the way using skids and a dump truck. Herb Brockert of Construction Services Co. arrived with his big excavator to dig the large hole the new addition required as Norm and Tom began to realize the existing house was so crooked that it was going to be a challenge to mate with the new structure. Meanwhile another big hole was dug for the new septic system that was also deemed necessary for the project. The Silvas slide the milk shed to its temporary location Tom and Norm assessed the scope of the demolition needed in the old house. The amount of slope in some of the floors was extreme, and the carpenters were against trying to fix very much of it at risk of blowing the budget. But as excavation continued, the issues involved with the old stone foundation and terribly compromised structure made those vows weaken. Many of the original beams and sills were rotted, and alterations over the years resulted in what Norm called a “terrifying” situation with the entire building slowly sliding towards the backyard. Tom devised a support structure to allow the house to be jacked up enough to replace the rotted sills that they originally weren’t going to repair. With the house so supported, the old stone foundation adjacent to the new addition was pretty much demolished in short order by hand with just a bit of help from the heavy equipment. Mel Zimmerman of Superior Walls supplied his precast concrete foundation sections for the new crawl space and the team was amazed at how quickly it all came together. Before they could celebrate too much, they had to deal with more of the old house’s structural issues. A trip to Concord showed what could be done if you had deep enough pockets with the mind-blowing reconstruction of the old Stratton Tavern originally in Northfield, MA and relocated piece by piece to the new Concord site. The owner was only identified as Anna, but Brian Cooper was the remarkable restoration contractor who took great pains to make the new look old. While the cost must have been astronomical, for me this was one of the more memorable places ever shown on TOH, and I would love to learn more about it, but information about it is remarkably elusive. The mysterious Anna and contractor Brian New addition off the back attached to a reconstructed 18th century addition The reconstructed Stratton Tavern and new additions in Concord The original Stratton Tavern before relocation Framing of the new addition moved quickly even with a gigantic steel beam needing to go down the center of the first floor ceiling, and soon the new spaces began to take shape. A bit of a cloud appeared when one of the Maitland children showed an elevated level of lead in the blood, leading to an analysis of lead paint in the old house. Isolated sections inside were found to have elevated levels of lead although most did not, but all of the windows on the exterior were far above limits. Meanwhile more good intentions vanished as Tom decided to demolish the back corner of the old house, saying correctly that there was nothing to save. Quickly, new Andersen windows went in, the new stairs to the second floor were built, and rotted beams in the second floor ceiling were replaced with more new structure. In what must have been a slow period for the project, Norm took a lengthy visit to the Porter-Cable tool factory in Tennessee, which must have paid for a lot of biscuit joiners. Tom even made use of one of those in trimming windows. The heretofore largely mute Charlie Silva made one of his first on-screen speaking performances on this project, still sounding exactly like he does today. Tom demonstrated his famous swinging story pole trick to get the clapboard spacing correct, an early example of his ingenuity in construction. An tour of the new MBR space showed an area that didn’t seem overly generous and had the typical TOH phone booth shower stall, but it was certainly an upgrade over what the Maitlands had previously. Because of the lead paint issues, the homeowners decided to replace all 27 windows in the old parts of the house with new modern replacements, a decision that would have budget implications far beyond the windows themselves. Meanwhile the apparently accidental discovery of an old well led to that being recommissioned for irrigation purposes. Glenn Berger returned as kitchen designer, this time dealing with high-end Kennebec Company cabinetry for the new kitchen. Sima insisted on cherry. When replacement of the old windows began, all good budget intentions quickly went out the windows. The installation of them was expensive in itself, with the original clapboards needing to be laboriously trimmed to fit the new exterior trim. On the front of the house, Norm found the clapboards there to in such bad shape thanks to their southern exposure that the decision was made to scrap them all and replace with new. When that was begun, more major structural problems were discovered, with rotted sills and posts galore, which explained the bulge in that wall that was noted in the first episode. The old sheathing under the clapboards was stripped off to reveal problems with rot and damage in the wall structure along with very questionable building methods, all of which required more jacking of the house to fix. Bee nests were found in the blown-in cellulose insulation which would also need to be replaced, something I found odd given that cellulose is usually treated to resist insects. Even with the repairs being done, the front wall would continue to lean back about 4”, something that they just could not fix, and they had to stop short of replacing all the sills due to cost. Tom noted that at this stage the budget had increased to $195,000 given all the changes and surprises. At least the TOH requisite central vacuum system was donated by Vacuflo, saving the homeowners $1000. Meanwhile the Maitlands wanted a new exterior paint scheme, so Steve visited Deerfield MA with architectural conservator Bill Flynt to look at various preserved examples of 18th-century homes, along with providing some history of the community in those times, an interesting segment. In the end, the Maitlands decided upon a pumpkin color that they saw on a house in a nearby town, with trim in a straw shade. Roger Cook and his crew arrived to install some drainage around the perimeter of the house, build a walkway to the mud room entrance, and re-do the lawn using a hydroseeding contractor. The homeowners also decided to replace the roof shingles on the original part of the house to match those used on the addition, which Tom said required lots of work to repair the rot in the roof sheathing first. Stephen Roy, a preservation stonemason, declared the existing fireplaces to be in mostly good shape aside from the one in the old kitchen needing some repair, but found that the exposed part of the chimney stack above the roof needed to be rebuilt as it had been subject to improper repairs some time earlier, a job he estimated at $5000. Lenny Belliveau built an elaborate staging to take down the old 5-flue chimney to a level just below the roofline and then reconstruct it with new brick. Lenny Belliveau and his staging (below) https://preview.redd.it/2pzmvx8o64pa1.jpg?width=1415&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=60b2d5cc734c1bfe28587b045b6fa48c60397619 Electrician Paul Kennedy was back on the project, and he was not a big fan of the steel studs Tom used in some of the new portions of the house. The costs were adding up fast, but luckily the Maitlands got a break on the then-new type of spray foam insulation from Insealators which was featured as a donation. Architect Chris Dallmus enlisted Norm and his workshop to build a new, though now mostly ceremonial, front entrance inspired by examples found in the area. Sima wanted old-style wood floors in her new kitchen, and Norm visited North Fields Restorations in New Hampshire, a recycler of old buildings and their materials, to see what they could supply and found the perfect old pine for the job. Once Lenny was finished rebuilding the chimney top, Rich, Steve, and Bobby from Trethewey Bros. installed a stainless flexible flue liner to solve condensation problems and provide for safe operation of the furnace. Sima selected slate bathroom floor tile sourced from the now-defunct Shep Brown Associates and Mark, Joe and Chuck of Ferrante Bros. did the installation. Joe was frustrated with the time involved in grouting the uneven slates, which looked like a pain. Jeff Hosking was back to install the antique (and magnificent-looking) antique pine floors in the new addition, at a staggering 1994 cost of about $20 per sq. ft. A boo-boo occurred when Terry, following a tip from Norm, visited a twin to his house that had its dining room ceiling exposed to the upstairs floor and beams by its owners, which not only added some much-needed headroom but also gave a look he envied. He decided to do the same at his house, but when they removed the ceiling, they found a bit of a mess with hacked-up joists and a disfigured summer beam, so it was back to the drawing board and another budget hit. The new entry door built by Norm and Tom encountered problems upon installation since the front wall of the house was leaning back so severely, leading them to build a subframe behind it that partly compensated for the angle. The Kennebec Company cherry cabinets were beautiful with a satin finish, and the Glenn Berger layout seemed ideal, although they used an unusual mix of stone and laminate for the counters. Steve visited the cabinet factory in Bath, ME for a tour in return for their donation. As finishes began to be revealed, the requisite TOH phone booth shower was seen in the MBR bathroom and we saw Rich install yet another toilet. Tom replaced the DR ceiling that was torn down and it looked good, but he did sound a note of caution about the costs of everything – each of the 27 original windows that were replaced cost about $800 once new trim and wall repairs were taken into account, and Terry revealed that when counting the $120,000 in donations, the total cost of the project was over $300,000, a sum that would be more than double that today. Hopefully he had a good tax accountant to minimize his tax liability on that donation amount. Thankfully the expensive brass Baldwin door hardware was part of those donations thanks to a factory visit feature. The last 2 of the total 18 episodes of the project felt a little strange, with the usual somewhat dragged-out pieces with interior designers and decorative painters, but also some somewhat jarring segments. After not seeing them for the entire project, both landscape designer Tom Wirth and lighting expert Melissa Guenet showed up in the final episode to play catch-up. Even more jarring was an exterior walkaround with Tommy and Norm that was all about what was left undone. Major (and according to the way they delivered the message, urgent) work was needed on the rest of the sills and bearing structures below the old house to keep it from continuing to sag and twist, and the old cow barn, which we had only seen from a distance previously, was deemed by Tom to be dangerously unsupported and so unsafe that it shouldn’t even be walked into, and needed to be taken down. All in all, a bit of a down note. A walkthough of the finished spaces was more upbeat, with the remains of the old kitchen now being a rather cozy sitting area, the old upstairs bath now brought up to date, the surprisingly small-looking MBR space being pleasant enough albeit over-decorated, and the new kitchen and family room being apparently what was asked for, though it was hard to tell given the crush of people occupying it during the wrap party. We did not see what happened to some of the other old spaces in the original house, likely because that had not been determined at that point. The finished project circa 1995 The Maitlands have continued to live in the house ever since, and hopefully those urgent needs have been taken care of. I liked them as homeowners, and I enjoyed the project for the most part, particularly for seeing the repair work that Tom and Norm undertook on the horrible structural problems. It’s the kind of thing we generally don’t see on the show these days, and the project helped illustrate the money pit that a very old house can become. submitted by keithplacer to Thisoldhouse [link] [comments] |
2023.03.21 16:56 DiaThonks Oneshot Thoron Build Guide
Or how to mathematically oneshot every enemy in the entire game.
A braindead Maddening build guide with math and shitty gifs. With Wave 3, it was probably fairly obvious that Vantage+Reprisal is a disgustingly powerful combo. But in doing the math for stupid oneshot Silver Greataxe memes, I then started wondering about Thoron...
Well as it turns out, the heavy investment of Starsphere and a dust or two is enough to allow Jean/Anna/Citrinne/Ivy to hit the magic benchmark of 99 magic damage with a max forged Thoron to OHKO every enemy in the entire game at 1-3 range.
Some Proof of Concept OHKOing a wyrm Scuffed GIF of finishing CH26P1 in 30 seconds (Spoilers obviously) Required: - Emblem Veronica
- Vantage (Leif)
- Holdout (Roy)
- Byleth-engraved Thoron+5 (Eirika if it's not being used or Leif as a distant third)
- Starsphere (Recommended for the midgame, but not required if you're willing to feed more boosters)
- Spirit Dusts
- Seraph Robes (for Citrinne and Ivy)
Eligible Candidates: - Sage Jean
- Sage Anna
- Sage Citrinne
- MK Jean (if you don't mind guaranteed missing MMs and High Priests)
- High Priest Citrinne (and it's more optimal than sage!)
- Lindwurm Ivy
Guide: Pre-CH10 Recommendations (none of these are required)
- Take Citrinne's starting Thunder and forge into a Thoron.
- For not-Ivy, you can also inherit Vantage now. You can also inherit Starsphere to reduce booster dependency, though that will require SP scrolls.
- Throw the Leif engrave on your Thoron.
General Use
- Equip Veronica onto your mage of choice.
- Run your mage facefirst into the nearest axe user to enable Reprisal.
- Oneshot everything. If you early-inherited Vantage, you can already enemy phase with almost full effectiveness. Otherwise, I'm sure you can find a good use for a 3 range pocket nuke.
- (Recommended) Swap Leif for Byleth engrave for more accuracy. Eirika is probably ideal, but Eirika is more contested by your crit users and Byleth is less so.
- After you get back Roy, inherit Hold Out. You can technically even inherit hold out before and go full build from the beginning, but maybe you want to think a little or use stat boosters for other units.
- (Recommended) Give your mage Rewarp and literally run facefirst into the middle of the map and hit + to skip turn until stage/game/life is cleared.
- Because you don't actually have to use your player phase to kill things, feel free to use your turns to AOE fortify heal/dance/obstruct/summoning a meatshield/waiting to stock freeze charges. This allows you to handle even 4 range wyrms and backup units with revive crystals because you can walk up and freeze in/out of range of those units and makes your supercarry your best support staffer as well.
Quick Stat benchmarks (
more math here)
There are effectively two damage tiers - 99 magic damage hits all generics and 96 hits everything minus Martial Master and High Priest. 103 is bonus extra credit that allows you to hit the final boss as well but is not attainable in fixed without extra levels past ilvl 40 or outside help (rallies, instructs, etc).
With Starsphere, at ilvl 40...
Sage Jean and Anna require anywhere between 0-3 Spirit Dusts depending on whether or not you give them some Starsphere levels and whether or not you care about hitting Martial Masters. Sage Citrinne might not naturally cap HP without Starsphere levels, so may need an extra dust. High Priest Citrinne and Lindwurm Ivy similarly require around the same number of Dusts + 1 but can also substitute up to 2 Seraph Robes for Dust.
If you forgo Starsphere, add 2-3 spirit dusts to all requirements. There are 3 (+1 from DLC) Spirit Dusts in the game so it'll be fairly tight, but still doable for all 4 characters mentioned if you settle for not hitting the arts-users.
Characters not mentioned require more boosters or outside assistance - if you really want to make your favorite work, you can rope in any number of the following to hit benchmarks.
- Given how much combat this unit will see, it's pretty likely that you'll hit a higher ilvl and Veronica even comes with Level Boost which amounts to another +2 damage. I ended the game with an ilvl 43 Ivy, and if you allow yourself to level boost on the not-arts users (which are always in the back anyways). ilvl 43 + level boost taken into consideration relaxes margins by about 2 spirit dusts/+4 damage.
- Swapping out Holdout for HP+15 (Corrin) if you're okay with manually setting up the low HP threshold. Unlike Panette's Wrath builds however, the damage margins are thin enough that you really do need to be very close to 1 HP, so this is difficult to do.
- Bringing in support buddies with Rally Spectrum (Chrom), Byleth Mystic/Dragon Instruct, Divinely Inspiring. This works as long as said unit isn't being ORKO'd - AI afaik, will prioritize the highest HP unit they can kill, but will otherwise never target your support buddies with your 1HP mage in range.
FAQ Does this actually kill everything in one hit?
Yes, you can look at the math link for numbers.
What about hit rates?
You have ~80% accuracy at worst on wolf knights/griffins/swordmasters with Byleth, 90 with Eirika assuming that's not being contested. Anybody else, you're reliably at 100. It's frankly incredibly reliable given universal OHKOs on everything. You can also lug around an accuracy support cheerleader if you really want - as long as they're not being onerounded, all enemies will go for your 1 HP mage. If your mage of choice isn't Ivy, you also don't even care about avoid terrain.
You put Starsphere and a whole bunch of statboosters on a carry mage, of course you're killing everything.
Yeah, I'm not saying it's a low investment build. Without Starsphere, it's all of the spirit dust you'll ever get. But the fact is, it's still doable without starsphere and that's kind of surprising for a build that's mathematically guaranteed to one shot every enemy in the game.
Starsphere also obviously breaks the game for early recruits and you can turn the massive stat snowball into any number of extremely busted builds... but braindead oneshotting everything at 3 range is a pretty nice step up from most usual strong builds still even.
Can you set up more than one of these characters?
Technically, you could have Roy/Leif (Rise Above even does a good job of aping level boost as needed) on your non Veronica and you might have enough statboosters with Starsphere usage to make this work on two characters. You'll have enough from the natural SP conversion to inherit Reprisal on one of your two Thoroners anyways if the other plays as a standard mage build for most of the game. I don't know if I'd recommend it because I like giving the rest of my army something to do.
Why didn't you use High Priest for anybody else?
Because only Citrinne, Ivy, and Clanne get Thoron access in High Priest. Ivy has Lindwurm and Clanne will never get the magic required to pull this off.
Who's the best character for this?
By stats, Jean. Ivy has flight. Citrinne gets to go High Priest and be optimal as it (Entrap access is pretty funny on your wrecking ball!). Anna probably farms you a silly amounts of gold. All 4 have their perks!
Does this work on lower difficulties with anybody else?
Probably! I just don't know enemy stats for lower difficulties, but Chloe and Pandreo could probably squeeze in if the requirements are a bit less lax on both HP and RES.
Silver Greataxe?
Panette can pretty comfortably use forged Silver Greataxe/Ukonvasara and hit OHKO benchmarks with a similar build, but this is obviously limited to 1 range. Tomahawk is much harder (something like 18 points off from OHKOing CH26 generals) that you might as well just add Reprisal to her standard Vantage-Wrath build. I just wanted to justify overcapping DEX and using Ukonvasara in her zerker dress to myself tbh.

2023.03.21 15:46 HoroAI Game similar to Dawn Of Man
I'm a huge fan of the survival city sim genre ever since Banished/Colonial Charter. There have been many titles in the category since including bad copy cats and really impressive original work that I enjoy and even value on an artistic level.
My personal highlights are Aven Colony, Kingdoms and Castle, Rise to Ruins and Valhalla Hills. I have yet to try Against the Storm and I don't like Rim World. TFM The First Men is sooo promising but just a bit too early in development for me to fully enjoy.
What makes Dawn Of Man special to me is the scale, the art style and the progression of it. You start with very few people and have complete control over their actions and equipment load out as well es general tasks they specialise in. It's right down to the individual sticks and stones you collect just to have a second tent. Especially the hunting and pet (dog) mechanic is so much fun. Then the game completely transforms as you progress changing your playstyle. Husbandry doesn't just add another generic food source, it's a whole new way to play the game, improves transport (which is a real issue) and other labor tasks as well as makes up for wildlife going extinct. The aesthetic progression from leather tents and campfires to wooden / clay huts and stone walls is also spot on for my personal taste. Finally, the survival aspect stays fresh from early to late game as it shifts from managing scarce resources before the next winter to sustaining an explosion of population in midgame (after you unlock farming) and then again shifts towards war and building weapons and defenses.
This last part, maintaining a sense of horizontal progression and survival challenge past the initial stages is where Farthest Frontier and Tomberborn fall flat and kinda disappointed me, whereas Endzone World apart feels arbitrarily difficult and generic after a while.
Is there anything else like it?

2023.03.21 15:28 LordIlthari Guardian Ranks: A Review and Proposed Revision
Guardian ranks. Like a lot of things, a good idea, but one that requires further work to refine and bring it into a great state. Bungie stated that this was meant to be something for telling how advanced a player is at a glance, being able to quickly summarize a player’s overall skill and mastery of various parts of the game. With this goal in mind, I will first review every requirement in the game, and then consider how effective it is towards that goal. Some are good, some need to be adjusted, some need to be outright removed. Advice for revisions will be posted in each section.
Rank 2:
Ranking Up: Aka, complete the basic tutorial. This is totally fine for getting you started. Worth keeping.
Rank 3:
The three goals here are to simply explore some patrol areas. While this is fine, I think it should extend outwards a bit, to have them explore each of the patrol areas in the game. In addition, I would move the Gunsmith and Gear Modification triumphs here instead.
In addition, I would also add an additional Gunsmith requirement here to require the player to acquire an Upgrade Module and infuse a piece of gear. No reason to have new lights throwing away their Night’s Watch.
Rank 4:
Learning Light: All of these are excellent, great for directing the player towards Ikora and introducing how aspects and fragments work.
The others, as mentioned, are basic enough I would have them moved to Rank 3. Instead, I would move some of the Rank 5 triumphs here instead. Specifically, any of the triumphs that require you to simply speak with a vendor should be here instead. A new light can clear them out here.
Rank 5:
The Riskrunner focused triumphs are excellent, and should be kept.
The Vanguard Ops and Bounties are good, but having them just for the vanguard is odd. I would advise adding additional, similar bounties for each of the ritual activities. Vanguard, Gambit, and Crucible should have something for each.
Finally, an additional triumph should be set for exploring at least 5 different Lost Sectors. These are appropriate difficulty for new lights and will help give them an idea of how they play, beyond making it easier for them to find Legend Lost sectors later on for higher ranks.
Rank 6:
The existing triumphs here are all fine. No need to remove any of those, but there is room for further improvements.
An additional triumph focused on discovering more lost sectors would be advisable. Perhaps an additional 10, meaning a Veteran has 15 lost sectors complete, suitably preparing them for the challenge of finding a legend Lost sector at the next rank.
In addition, while the player is now participating in all the ritual content, now might be a good time for them to dip their toes into some of the more dangerous content. I would move the “Complete a nightfall on Hero Difficulty” challenge here from Rank 7, as well as a modified “Surges” objective that simply requires the player to complete any 3 Vanguard Ops with a matching surge.
Finally, I would add the requirement to complete any campaign. Lightfall, Beyond Light, Witch Queen, Shadowkeep, doesn’t matter. Any single campaign, on any difficulty, completed. This will both better equip the new player and act as an extended challenge to ask them to put what they’ve learned from the prior ranks into practice. A sort of “Final exam” after which they are no longer merely a new light, but have begun to establish themselves as a guardian proper.
Rank 7:
So, this is where the analysis gets more detailed, as we move from the guardian ranks being more of a tutorial and beginning to use them as ways of measuring guardian skill. The shift from Rank 6 to Rank 7 appears to broadly be the shift from Adept content to Legend content. With that in mind, the challenges should be set to focus on this.
Champions: Having a challenge to encounter and deal with each champion type one by one is an excellent tutorial for this more advanced mechanic, and is one that will be attended to in the pursuit of other content anyways. These can remain.
Lightfall: So, the “complete a campaign” step was moved one space back, and thus it could be removed. Thus, I would instead move the “Complete the Campaign on Legendary” steps from rank 8 here instead.
Lost Sectors: Soloing Legend Lost sectors, and having to achieve a flawless, is an excellent standard for determining a more competent guardian. An excellent addition here.
Power: Obtaining the power cap and pursuing pinnacle rewards is a natural extension of what the player will have already been doing thus far. A worthwhile check to ensure the player is ready to advance to higher level content.
Seasonal Artifact: These are liable to change season to season, but they’re fine. Syncs well with the other challenges here.
Season of the Blank: No comment, as this appears likely to change season to season, but so far seems fine.
Nightfall: This is where I would make another change, drawing something back down from Rank 8. Specifically, this is where I would put the “Complete a Legend Nightfall” and the “Complete a Legend Nightfall and get a great score” triumphs. If Elite represents the ability to step into Legend level content, this is where it should be.
Commendations: I’ve saved this section for the last, and will have more to say on the commendations system in general in another post. It’s another good idea that needs more work. Part of that work is this: The commendations system should not be tied to Guardian ranks or any other rewards. Doing so fundamentally taints both systems. Guardian ranks is meant to represent competence, and Commendations are meant to represent what kind of player you are. Finally, there is the matter of how the focus on score, especially with the earlier values, turned the guardian ranks from a question of how good a player you are into a question of how much grind you’ve put in this season. There is a reason so many people used farms and will keep using said farms. Commendations do not belong in the guardian ranks system and should be removed from it root and branch.
Rank 8
So, if Rank 7 represents the jump into Legend Content, Rank 8 should represent a further step into Master content. A guardian with Rank 8 should hold that rank as a demonstration of absolutely certain mechanical and buildcrafting skill, capable of holding their own in terms of technical prowess in most content the game has to offer. In short, they should be a person who, if you bring them onto your team, you know won’t be wasting your Rez tokens. With that in mind, let us begin.
Collections: All these are fine. 15 is a reasonable number of exotic weapons and armors to have obtained, and gaining a title represents a total mastery of at least one area of the game. All of the above are fine.
Endgame: I would actually not include these. The difficulty of raiding has far less to do with technical skill, and far more to do with knowledge. In order to keep the distinction clear and ranks meaningful, I would remove these.
Lightfall: As these have already been moved down, at least the ones of any substance, to rank 7, this should instead be the place to put the Darkness triumphs from Rank 10, minus the Grandmaster one.
Season of Defiance: The acquisition of ranks is trivial, as is the seasonal challenges one. These could be moved to a lower rank without any issue. The requirement to complete a seasonal activity at maximum difficulty is excellent though. This is exactly what should be here.
Lost Sectors: Should be moved from Rank 9. Solo Master Lost sectors, and trying to flawless them besides, are an excellent test of one’s individual mechanical capabilities. This cannot be achieved by a carry.
Nightfall: As one might suspect by this point, the Master Nightfall requirements are moving down here from Rank 9. If this is the Master rank, then let it face Master level content.
Now, since the Endgame requirements are missing, this is where a new section should appear. Given the focus on technical skill in this section, here is where a somewhat lacking element in the current system can be added. PvP skill. Thus, I propose the following selections to ensure that a high-ranked guardian is at least familiar with the more competitive side of PvP.
PVP:
- Complete a Trials Passage
- Complete your placement matches in Competitive Crucible
- Complete a Promotion series in competitive Crucible.
- Gain 10 Ranks in Iron Banner
Rank 9:
If the previous rank was about demonstrating a guardian’s technical skill, this rank represents the next step, beyond simple skill at arms, and moving on to a general demonstration of knowledge and mastery throughout all elements of the game and endgame activities. In other words, no matter where they find themselves, a Rank 9 should more or less know what to do.
Collections: The jump in the number of weapons required, and the corresponding lack of increase in armor required is a bit odd. While I agree a higher ranked guardian should have a wider arsenal, this one is a bit mismatched. I would rebalance this to 50 exotic weapons and 50 pieces of exotic armor. The two titles remains a fine goal, though personally I think 3 would be more appropriate.
Dungeons/Raids: The current set of “Complete all dungeons/raids” challenges is appropriate for demonstrating a player has knowledge of endgame activities. This ensures that any rank 9 guardian is one who is knowledgeable and will not need to be taught in any fireteam they join.
Season of Defiance: All of these requirements are trivial and similarly could be placed at a lower rank, but do demonstrate general knowledge of seasonal activities.
Power: While we can go back and forth on whether or not the power grind is a good thing, completing it is a reasonable ask for one seeking to stand amongst the upper echelon of guardians.
Nightfall: This should be replaced with a single request. Complete a Grandmaster Nightfall. This should represent one being able to dip their toes into the most challenging activity in the game and come out. Simply surviving this challenge is triumph enough, for now.
Ritual Activities: Since I’ve stolen lost sectors from this region, and there needs to be something to demonstrate an ongoing understanding of all elements of the game, this would see a set of new challenges added, resetting per season.
- Reset your Vanguard Rank
- Reset your Crucible Rank
- Reset your Gambit Rank.
These challenges are simply here to ensure any guardian of this rank is still putting in their reps on the ritual activities and maintaining their skills from season to season, becoming aware of the metas, and simply being active for more than just raids, etc. etc.
Rank 10
If Rank 8 was about demonstrating mechanical skill, and Rank 9 was about demonstrating knowledge, Rank 10 should represent one who can marry these two ideas together. This should represent a near-peak of guardian abilities, representing a guardian who has mastery over nearly all elements of the game, and for whom only the highest peaks remain.
Collections: The masterwork focus is fine. Exotic Armorer has been rendered moot by the revisions to rank 9, and obtaining 5 seals is a worthy goal.
Grandmaster: Completing a Grandmaster with a great score is a step above, but we can do better. This is where the requirement to earn the Conqueror seal should go, though not guilding it yet.
Darkness: Why is this here? Of all places, why is Rank 10 where you’re expected to have your darkness subclasses? The requirement to complete a Nightfall with one is covered by Conqueror. Instead, I propose the following replacement category.
Endgame Mastery: A series of triumphs which offer the simple challenge, complete each Raid and Dungeon currently in the game on Master mode. With the changes to make these now -20 power level, this is a perfect marriage of mechanical knowledge and technical skill to represent true generalized mastery of the game and a goal worthy of chasing.
Season of Defiance: Again, trivial.
Rank 11
What does it mean to be a Paragon? To truly stand at the top. The present focus on a grind is… disappointing, to say the least. Further work must be done. If this is to represent the absolute peak, the best of the best, the challenge should not be one of patience, or of how well we can find a workaround for the commendation grind. Rank 11 should stand for nothing less than facing the hardest challenges in the game and standing over their broken corpses. It should represent peerless knowledge and unmatched skill, a true legend, not for their patience, but for truly being the best in the game.
Collections: 7 Titles is fine, will probably come alongside other challenges.
Grandmaster: Guilding Conqueror was, for quite a little while, the sign of the best players in the game. It is only right and proper that this would be included in the final Rank.
Trials of Osiris: To stand as one of the best players in the game should mean facing all its hardest challenges, PvP and PvE alike. With that in mind, this category should contain a single triumph.
- Complete a Flawless Trials Passage.
Endgame: The present set of challenges are fine, but don’t truly represent an absolute mastery over the game’s hardest challenges. The Solo dungeon clear should remain, that’s fine. But there should be more. I propose the following: Complete all challenges on Master Mode for all Raids. This would present an excellent final step to demonstrate total and complete dominance over endgame raiding. There are only two higher challenges:
- Complete the latest Dungeon flawlessly.
- Complete the latest Raid flawlessly.
Flawless is about the best you can do in the game. It is a true challenge and one that should be faced by those who truly wish to stand as the best in the game.
So. TLDR: Guardian Ranks are fine, but too focused on showing how many commendations you’ve farmed and not actually a good demonstration of how good you are at the game. They should be less grindy, but significantly more difficult in terms of the challenges they expect the player to execute. If Guardian Ranks are to be signs of our skill, then ask us to be skilled, not simply to find another way of cheesing commendations.

2023.03.21 13:13 Mondkap Our Follow The Progress Speed Run
My friend aka Birk and I aka Ronja have started a new world and we are trying a Follow The Progress Speed Run. Our rules are: lay all the bosses as fast as possible with new characters, but work through the important steps provided by the game. Lay the bosses in the right order.
1st session:
Our starting point is in the middle of the forest and the first thing we do is look for a coast to build our first base. After a short search, we find a nice spot near a black forest that seems convenient. Because we forget the time with building and searching, we have no beds in the first night. Of course, 2 shamans come from the nearby black forest.... Somehow we make it through the night, but the first tombstones mark our map. After that it goes very well and after a few days we can lay the first boss, which causes us less problems than the first troll, which we meet a short time later in the Black Forest. The biggest problem, however, is caused by two 1-star skellets, which whiped us for the first time. With a little more caution, however, we get back to our equipment and can slay the skeletons. At the end of the first session (about 4h real time), I have a copper sword and Birk the first parts of the troll armor. The base is set and has a mout around it. To be continued...
2nd session:
After some more copper and troll farming, I have a 1-time upgraded copper armor and my friend has a complete troll armor. We also now know where the Elder is, though this requires a sea voyage. But before that we have to prepare some food. Since we don't feel like waiting for the carrots, we end up leaving with a single carrot soup. But we could pick up a fish at the shore, which gives us strong food. So with a newly built boat we set off for the Elder. After an uneventful journey, we soon arrive at the boss spawn. There's even swamp nearby... but more on that later. The boss fight was surprisingly easy. I shoot about 40 arrows and my friend dodged without any problems. Ingame we are now at day 10. To be continued...

2023.03.21 13:07 UniversityDelicious2 [PRIMAL] [EXODUS] [FC] [LFM] (Honey) Looking to invite more into our community!
Honeycomb {Honey} Hello and Welcome to Honeycomb!
Are you someone who is looking for an FC that is focused on making friends and listening to others? Are you a little awkward, introverted, or simply just wanting a smaller group to play with? At Honey our goal is to keep our members included, while growing large enough to run higher content, and to make sure that all of our members can talk and feel heard, instead of drowned in the wave of mass numbers.
People of all levels are welcome, whether you are a freshly started sprout, still learning base class rotations and dungeon mechanics, or veterans, we don’t discriminate, we welcome all! Following that statement, we would also like to disclose that Honey is a LGBTQ+ community, an FC that is also doubling as a safe space to properly express yourselves without judgment or ridicule.
Of course, when you join, it’ll come with perks!
We own a Large mansion in the ever so scenic Ishgard housing district, located up on the higher parts of the ward and conveniently placed right next to the public hot spring bathing area and sauna, with the market board being just a jog and a jump down the stairs! We also do our best to keep up an EXP buff as well as the cheaper travels buff, but are willing to switch it up upon demand during events or a huge crafting grind!
We are also equipped with a few omni-crafters, so we are more than happy to help out with gear, glams, and more if needed.
But wait, that’s not all! We also have an active discord where everyone can hangout, plan events, activities, and simply get together for that good ol’ content grind.
Now what exactly do we do here, you might ask, and that’s a good question! Honeycomb focuses on a more casual setting as we grow, not wanting anyone to feel pressured to be the best of the best, so we make sure to help those along the way through MSQ. However we do enjoy our fair share in helping with mount, glam, and relic farming wherever the help is needed! Honey also doesn’t ignore the side content, giving attention to Palace of the Dead, Heaven on High, FATE farming, Hunts, and even the good and strange Blue Mage grind as well.
Extra: There is a mix of PC and console players in this community already and we are more than happy to get together to play games other than FFXIV. This community is serious about having people feeling included and that everything doesn’t have to be about one thing.
Please do not leave a comment, I am not notified when I get one and I do not check this every day, instead join our discord community using the link below! Thank you, and cant wait to meet you! For a more personal route, you can DM my staff directly on Discord at Shiroi#0003 , DeadeyeDrifter#6408 Links:

2023.03.21 12:58 mitrawebnew Mitra Agro Equipment Pvt Ltd
| M.I.T.R.A has developed a range of spraying machines designed to help farmers grow horticulture crops such as grapes, pomegranates, oranges and mangoes efficiently and with greater ease than ever before. These sprayers are constructed from robust materials suitable for use outdoors in various weather conditions and can be maneuvered quickly around the field ensuring that all crops receive the necessary treatment at an efficient rate. The multi-nozzle system provides uniform coverage allowing for better control over droplet size distribution minimizing wastage due to run off or evaporation thus saving time, cost and water resources while achieving optimal crop production results every season! For the cultivation of horticulture products like grapes, pomegranates, oranges, mangoes, and more, Mitra creates spraying equipment. We have quickly grown to be India's top maker of agricultural sprayer machines, including boom sprayers, mini tractor sprayer pumps, air blast sprayers, orchard sprayers, vineyard sprayers, and tractor mounted sprayers. The agricultural sprayer machine is now a crucial component of crop protection machinery. Every farmer wants to boost the output of each region they cultivate. The producers will be able to accomplish these farming goals by investing in high-quality agricultural sprayers. One of the top producers and suppliers of premium truck sprayer pumps and other agricultural sprayers is Mitra. Advanced technologies have been created as a result of technological breakthroughs. tractor spraying machines, such as Orchard Sprayer, Vineyard Sprayer, Tractor Operater Sprayer, Tractor Power Sprayer, and Tractor Mounted Sprayer. These machines are specifically designed for agricultural use and provide an efficient way to apply pesticides or fertilizer on crops. The easily maneuverable tractors allow access areas that may not be reachable with conventional techniques, while precision technologies help reduce waste by minimizing coverage overlap. In addition, the increased capabilities brought along by technological advancements mean less manual labor is required to complete the task safely. The cost of spray tools is not the only consideration when choosing a horticulture crop sprayer. Other important factors are also taken into account, such as the construction of the Agriculture sprayer machines, the sprayer's durability, safety gear, and ease of use. Our sprayers are very reasonably priced when compared to other sprayers on the market. Your safety while using spraying tools and handling the chemicals that are used to protect crops should be guaranteed. Our goods are designed to protect your crops from harm and disease. All of our sprayers are made at Mitra Agro Equipment with the user's convenience and advantages in mind. We also consider the security of our customers and ensure they won't experience any sprayer-related problems. When Mr. Devneet Bajaj, the founder of MITRA, was residing in Los Angeles, America, he learned that farmers who practice agriculture have a well-known piece of equipment to protect their crops, known as the Spraying Machine. He reasoned that, particularly in this contemporary age, farmers in India who toil daily with their bare hands to protect their crops would benefit from this machinery. And in response to the concept of Spraying Machinery becoming a Major Success in India, MITRA was founded. submitted by mitrawebnew to u/mitrawebnew [link] [comments] |
2023.03.21 12:16 WanderlostNomad is it good to blitz liberate provinces or is it better to just keep farming blueprints without liberating asap?
blitz liberation feels like i'm too much at the mercy of RNG gods on the loot drop. i just use whatever random equipment and blueprints i get, before getting soft "locked" out of that province's loot. (do liberated provinces provide you with periodic supply of common/uncommon/rare parts? i didn't notice)
meanwhile, just running around hunting for equipment convoys without liberating could probably get you tons more blueprints and parts at the cost of "escalation". but how far does that escalation go? ie : if i farm a level 2 province for blueprints, will it eventually become a level 3 (or more) if i wait too long? i only noticed provinces "leveling up" after i liberate a province. i haven't tried just hanging around farming for blueprints yet. i don't know how much staying too long affects escalation or the province's level. (does escalation max out?)
a lot of the game mechanics are too obscure/obfuscated. even the equipment description in the workshop is so obscure.
