#SayTheirNames: Bonnie K. Hunt

2023.03.25 01:28 Intrepid_Wanderer #SayTheirNames: Bonnie K. Hunt

Bonnie was 44 when she was killed by Planned Parenthood.
She underwent a legal abortion at a Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Illinois. Soon after, she had to be hospitalized at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Unfortunately, she never recovered. Bonnie died on August 5, 2008.
Bonnie’s mother sued Planned Parenthood for malpractice. The case dragged on for years and was eventually dismissed by stipulation or agreement.
In an article for the Chicago Tribune, Planned Parenthood of West Loop, Illinois was confronted about whether or not they had failed to report the death of Irene Stevenson, one of their abortion clients. While they refused to confirm if Irene’s death was ever reported, the facility claimed to have reported a dead client in 2008. Records of the many lawsuits filed against Planned Parenthood finally identified the 2008 death as Bonnie Kay Hunt.
Years after Bonnie and Irene were killed, the same abortion facility killed Tonya Reaves. Planned Parenthood will continue to kill until they are shut down.
Enough is enough.

2023.03.25 00:50 DaKineNayNay SoCal Kaiser denied Breast Augmentation based on photos and BMI

Hi all-
I have gone through all the loops at Kaiser to get transgender care here in SoCal. I started HRT over a year ago with them, met all of their requirements, received all of the referrals necessary for surgeries, and then I'm surprised with this crap. Nowhere in their initial requirements does it mention that BMI has to be less than 30!! My BMI is 34. They also denied, saying I had C cup developed breasts all based on photos and not an in-person consultation. My chest looks the same now as it did pre-transition, and is the reason why I am seeking breast augmentation. I had no nipple development at all after a year on Estradiol (oral) and Progesterone (oral) even though all of my levels have been within cis-female range the entire time. My endo said it could be due to several factors (age and genetics playing the largest roles).
I'm frustrated and disheartened with the decision and feel like Kaiser is gatekeeping care. Would they deny another medically necessary surgery because of BMI as well?
Has anyone with SoCal Kaiser experienced anything similar? If so, how did you resolve this? I can't afford to go out of network to pay out of pocket, and my chest, or lack of development, is an area of my body that gives me lots of dysphoria.

2023.03.24 21:53 doctor__infinity GC approved!!! Waiting for the card…

Timeline:
  1. Application received / PD: Dec 21, 2021
  2. Biometrics: Jan 27, 2022
  3. Standalone EAD approval: May 14, 2022
  4. I130 approval: March 23, 2023
  5. I485 approval: March 23, 2023
Thank you people for all the help through your posts / comments!! Hope my post is helpful for at least some of you! Best of luck to those who are still waiting!
Key points (please read before you ask questions):
  1. Family based, USC spouse, NBC. Applied after ~1.5 years of marriage, approved after ~2.5 years of marriage.
  2. Field center should be SF, but the case never arrived there.
  3. EAD arrived in a week after approval notice. It arrived right before I was applying for my STEM extension (not sure if USCIS did that purposefully).
  4. AP never arrived.
  5. I485 was “being actively reviewed” few days after biometrics and stayed like that for ~14 months. It changed to “case approved” few hours after I130 was approved.
  6. I130 changed to “being actively reviewed” 1 day before approval. The status changed to “case approved” after a day but the approval notice popped up right after “being actively reviewed”. The notice only appeared in the petitioner’s profile, never on the beneficiary’s profile. Also the extra tab for “timeline” appeared under the case I130 a month ago that said “taking longer than usual” and then disappeared again in a week.
  7. Made 3 service requests as soon as the case was outside normal time. The 2 requests for I131 never received a reply. The sole service request for I130 received a generic reply the day the status changed to “being actively reviewed”. The reply said that they are processing my case and that I should be patient.
  8. Also contacted senator regarding expediting I131 / I130. But they asked for some proof of emergency (which I really didn’t have). Before I could reply to the senator’s email the case was approved (I’m not sure if this helped in any way).
  9. I was chatting with an agent through Emma. I asked them if my interview was waived, and they copy-pasted a generic reply from internet and disconnected the chat. They said that the case is still at NBC and that interview is still a possibility. Right after this chat I checked the USCIS profile and I saw that I485 was approved. These agents really don’t know anything else apart from what we already know through basic tracker websites.
  10. Sent my medical exam and bonafide proof with the applications itself (marriage certificate, common bank accounts, shared lease, photos etc.).

Countdown to Kickoff 2023: OL Reign

#ReignSupreme 🦁
You can check out the the original post with links to all other write ups for this year here.
BACKGROUND
Head Coach: Laura Harvey
Harvey's been coaching at top professional level since 2002 when she joined Birmingham City as an assistant and would become head coach four years later in 2006. She also joined the coaching staff of England's Girls YNT (U17, U19, U23) as an assistant from 2005-2011. Her last stint in England was with Arsenal where she was assistant 2008-2010 and head coach 2010-2012. With Arsenal, she won: x1 FA Women's Premier League 2009–10, x2 FA Women's Super League: 2011, 2012, x2 FA Women's League Cup: 2011, 2012, and x1 Women's FA Cup: 2011.
She moved across the pond in 2013 as head coach of Seattle Reign FC where she won two shields, made two championship finals, and won two NWSL Coach of the Year awards. She left Seattle in 2017, made a quick stop as an interim for USWNT U20s, and then landed at Utah Royals from 2018-2019. From 2020-2022 she was in the US system for the U20s and USWNT. In 2021, she was hired by her former team, but under the new name of OL Reign, after the firing of Farid Benstiti.
Harvey has yet to win the NWSL Championship and is certainly set up with her current team to make a strong run for it this season.
General Manager:
Currently vacant, if you're looking for a new job.
Captain: Lauren Barnes
As one of the most decorated players in NWSL history, Barnes is a the two-time NWSL Best XI First Team (2015-2016) and two-time NWSL Best XI Second Team (2014, 2019) selection, leads the league in appearances (189), starts (185), and minutes played (16,369) – nearly 1,000 more minutes than the second-most player – becoming the first player in NWSL history to reach the milestone of 15,000 minutes played. Barnes is wearing the armband for the 7th season. She has spent time on loan in both Australia (Melbourne Victory) + Melbourne City)) and Sweden (Kristianstads DFF).
Stadium: Lumen Field
After stints at Stafire Sports, Memorial Stadium, Cheney Stadium, OL Reign is now full time at Lumen Field which they share with the Seattle Seahawks (NFL), Seattle Sounders FC (MLS), and Seattle Sea Dragons (XFL)).
Ownership: OL Groupe
In January of 2020, Reign FC was purchased by OL Groupe, the parent company of Olympique Lyonnais owned by Jean-Michel Aulas. OL Groupe bought an 89.5% stake in the new operating entity, while former Reign FC majority owners Teresa Predmore and Bill Predmore took a 7.5% stake in the club, and Tony Parker, former NBA champion, held a 3% stake. The team was then renamed to OL Reign before the 2020 season, after only one year with the name Reign FC (and a kickass crest).
Mascot: N/A
No mascot for OL Reign other than the lion in their logo.
Kits: We’ve Got Some Mixed Opinions
Based on overall fan reception, I'd say both kits are above average compared to the rest of the league. Black Future Co-op Fund continues as front of shirt sponsor.
Purpose (Home) - Dual blue geometric print kits with red trim debuted in March 2023 with the caption "Wear it to play. Wear it with pride. Wear it with Purpose" and a dope video.
Honor (Away) - "The Honor kit was designed to honor a decade of Reign excellence and world-class soccer, along with the players who have helped to develop OL Reign into the club it is over the last ten years. The body of the kit is solid white, with a red and blue stripe down the front of the kit that features the names of Reign players who have represented the team since its inaugural season in 2013." watch the cool video.

2022 Season Review
Always the Bridesmaids, Never the Bride
The Reign were a bit of a surprise Shield winner last year. Not that the team wasn't great and certainly deserved it, but a surprise tie between Gotham and Portland on the last day of the regular season pushed OL to the top of the league to win their third Supporter's Shield. But similar to 2014 and 2015, they couldn't replicate their regular season success in the playoffs. They lost to Kansas City in the semi-finals 2-0 with one of the team's worst overall performances of the year.
Overall, the team lacked consistency in the final third finishing the season with an xG 6-7 goals higher than total goals. If Harvey et al. want to finally put their hands on that Championship trophy, they'll need to put teams away early instead of letting them hang on for ties and late losses.
OFFSEASON
Players Out
  • Sinclaire Miramontez, DF - Waived after 2022 and retired in the offseason.
  • Jodi Ülkekul, FW - Signed initially in 2022 as an NRI before a full signing in August for the remainder of the season. She was waived after 2022.
  • Tobin Heath FW - Your guess is as good as mine. Not with OL Reign or seemingly any team in the league? Current Free Agent.
Players In
Transfer:
  • Luany, MF - Transferred from Brazilian club Grêmio) for an undisclosed fee
Drafted: No 2023 draftees signed a contract for the upcoming season. Harvey is very outspoken about her dislike for the draft system and historically does not rely on it.
Traded:
  • Elyse Bennett, FW - Acquired from KCC, along with the No. 23 pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft, in exchange for $150,000 in allocation money
  • Emily Sonnett, DF - Acquired from Washington Spirit in exchange for the No. 32 pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft and the natural first-round pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft
ROSTER
OL Reign has announced its 26-player roster ahead of the 2023 season
Goalkeepers (3): Claudia Dickey, Laurel Ivory, Phallon Tullis-Joyce
Defenders (9): Lu Barnes, Ryanne Brown, Alana Cook, Sam Hiatt, Sofia Huerta, Jimena López (INT), Alyssa Malonson, Phoebe McClernon, Emily Sonnett
Midfielders (9): Angelina (SEI), Olivia Athens, Marley Canales, Jess Fishlock, Rose Lavelle, Luany (INT/NYR), Quinn, Nikki Stanton, Olivia Van der Jagt
Forwards (6): Bethany Balcer, Elyse Bennett, Jordyn Huitema (INT), Tziarra King, Veronica Latsko, Megan Rapinoe
INT – International Slot NYR – Player has not yet reported SEI - Season-ending injury list
Predicted Preferred Gameday XI
Formation: No doubt OL will setup in their usual 4-3-3 this season with little updates from last year across all three lines. If Rapinoe is fit and ready to go, you have to assume she is getting the start over King, especially with the World Cup just around the corner. The only question mark for this Starting XI is around the addition of Sonnett. Harvey's been using her in the 6 during pre-season games, but if Quinn is fit and healthy, it is unclear if Sonnett remains as the DCM or bumps Hiatt off that backline.
-------------------Tullis-Joyce-------------------
-Huerta----Cook----Hiatt----Barnes-
----Lavelle----Sonnett/Quinn----Fishlock----
----Balcer----Huitema----Rapinoe----
Likely Top Bench/Subs:
  • Tziarra King
  • Jimena Lopez
  • Quinn/Hiatt (whoever Sonnett displaces)
  • Olivia Van der Jagt
  • Elyse Bennett
  • Veronica Latsko
  • Luany
Returning Players (Almost Everyone):
The Reign returned 24 players from last year. The only new players are Bennett, Sonnett, and Luany.
The Vets
Barnes, Fishlock, and Rapinoe are the clear veteran leaders on the team. All three have been in the league for a decade and spent their NWSL careers with the Reign.
Something to Prove
  • Emily Sonnett: After being out last year a bit due to injury and with a World Cup roster selection imminent, Sonnett will need to prove herself on a stacked roster to showcase why she not only deserves to be in Laura Harvey's first eleven, but also in the 23 for Vlatko in Australia
  • Tziarra King: A bit quiet since her showing as rookie for Utah Royals, King is still looking for her breakout season and will have a big opportunity to prove herself during the World Cup window when she will certainly be in the starting lineup.
  • Jimena Lopez: Similar to King, Lopez is most likely to fill the gaps left by World Cup players and will have a chance to show what she can do in a position she is clearly being groomed for at LB.
  • Alana Cook: Not for her spot at OL, but for a spot for USWNT. With Davidson seemingly back in the mix and the team historically taking 3 natural center backs, Cook needs to be too good to be left out.
Out for the season
Angelina is on month 8 of her ACL recovery and is expected to be back at some point this season. Otherwise, we love a healthy team!
2023 PREVIEW
Realistic Best Case Scenario: 1st Place
They have the players to win every game if they are playing at their best. They are a proven team with tons of chemistry and almost no roster turnover from last year. Players should be familiar with one another and anticipate passes and runs. The additions of Sonnett and Bennett make their roster stronger and a midfield of Fishlock and Lavelle must be so frustrating for every other team. Add in a great manager like Harvey and it is very, very easy to see how OL Reign could defend the Shield.
Realistic Worst Case Scenario: 4th place
There could be slip ups throughout the season, especially with the parity we've seen over the years. Losing a few games to KCC, Portland, and San Diego wouldn't be a shock, but it's hard to imagine OL Reign dropped games to teams like Chicago and North Carolina this year. But even if it happens, they'll pick up points with wins over top teams. It will be very surprising if they fall out of the top 4 this year.

2023.03.23 17:11 bryc90111 Insurance cost for Rinvoq

As title says. I have a problem with the cost of my UC med Rinvoq. They just told me that I have Copay of $1,000+ until I reach my out of pocket ($3,500) per year. I use Kaiser Permanente insurance if that matters. Why this medication is so expensive. Is there anyone can advice what to do? Im in the US btw. I have medical debt due to recent major flair.
Edit: I called the number from RINVOQ website again. I spoke to their Insurance Specialist, they finally found a fix for my out of pocket $3,500 to get my medication. They spoke w/ my insurance. So what they are going to do is put me on complete program "REBATE". I'll pay it upfront the out of pocket expense then they will reimburse me. Thank you guys for all your advice!

2023.03.23 16:28 crabblue6 Dad has dementia - bed ridden - how do I get him help?

Hi all,
I feel overwhelmed. I don't know where to start. I tried calling Vererans Resource Center for our area and they were so unhelpful. I spoke to the same guy a few times, and he yelled at me because he was spitting questions at me and I didn't have all the answers. I said to him, "How can I know the all the answers if I don't know what questions you're going to ask me?" Then he said my parents make too much money to qualify for anything. To which I said, "According to you they would have to be living in poverty to qualify for any benefits" and he replied "Yes, that's right."
I called the American Legion Hall to see if I could speak to someone for some help, and thr person who answered had no clue and suggested I contact the nearest VA hospital.
I contacted the nearest VA hospital and they kept transferring me around. Each person saying they weren't the right department.
My dad was a Vietnam Vet, and he worked as a flight medic. I know he went to Vietnam because he told me he did, but unfortunately none of his paperwork reflect that he was in Vietnam. And now of course, he can't tell us any details - he can't talk! I can't find any letters or photos from that time to back up his old stories about being in Vietnam.
We all thought he was going to die, but he has lingered indefinitely and my mom has been taking care of him as his primary caretaker. She is KILLING herself taking care of him. He has been bedridden for close to a year.
We're not looking to squeeze every cent out we just need help! My mom just spent over $250 in medical supplies for my dad. This is outside of what hospice care is already providing us. I'm just looking to ease my mom's burden.
The other wonderful thing is that my mom and dad never established a Power of Attorney while he was lucid enough. So, I have also been told no one can assist us without POA. But, as his spouse can't my mom have some decision making impact?
Feel so lost.

2023.03.23 07:08 Test999999992 Cicada 3301

Cicada 3301
I have tried to post this message before, however it is being censored by Cicada 3301.
78.242, -43.813 Approximate coordinates of the base.
Greenland, during the cold war after World War 2 there were a large group of Flemish soldiers that decided to steal weapons and illegally construct a secret bunker on the large island. They did not wish to be destroyed if humanity decided to use the nuclear weapons of war. Construction started in 1945 and ended in the 1960s. When the bunker was completed, they decided to take up permanent residence this was done via the installation of a pig farm and cultivating of beans that do not need sunlight to grow. There were scientists that were recruited into the group in order to take preliminary calculations of the site before construction began, after they were completed, they asked the soldiers to move in with them. After two years of living there the scientists grew tired that they had to do all the work in the base, so they decided to kill all the soldiers. This is how cicada 3301 was formed.
With the bunker now belonging to the scientists they immediately began to research new technologies. Early on when the internet was new they knew that it was going to play a big part in the future of human society and that they should focus researching different computer technologies, they began development of certain artificial intelligence and today they have been able to hack in to many of the different computer systems all around the world, all it takes is an internet connection and their bots will be able to hack in undetected with the exception of highly encrypted systems, however in most cases the scientists are able to decrypt the system. They have been able to hack into everyone’s mobile device and are able to gain speech data, this is important to their AI research.
Cicada 3301 is mostly known through their complex internet puzzles which includes something that is called the Liber Primus or the first book that is Nordic runes which need to be decoded in order to read the text that is basically an invitation to come and work for them in Greenland.
Scientists are not allowed to leave the base and travel to the outside due to the base remote location and the risk of someone that knows too much, turns and betray Cicada 3301 however they do need people on the outside on a need-to-know basis so that’s were the recruitment of former criminals comes in.
The small independent self-sustained bunker system was to become a haven of science and progress, free from the prying eyes of outsiders and enemies alike. In order to maintain their ranks at the base they had to employ past felons that would complete task around the globe for them. Among them there was kidnapping, bringing in outside resources that might have been needed in the base. The organization is not just an internet cryptology puzzle. Due to the base only consisting of hard-working scientists the base developed several morally challenged technologies that would challenge the outside world. The main goal of the work being done there is to maintain utter secrecy of the base employing of modern specially designed AI that would delete any critical information about the base activities from the modern-day internet.
Cicada 3301 is split in to two groups: scientists and felons (which are called agents by the organization): People who have conducted a series of serious crime (“5”) may be allowed to partially join the organization that has in the more recent times developed an Artificial Intelligence key that allows access through almost every locked door on the planet. Technologies, such as a Direct Alarm Response Global Positioning System for the felons that will show real time locations of emergency vehicles. Enemies (people from the outside) that have angered the Cicada 3301 can be directly targeted by these felons, often people that have had plans to build something large in Greenland.
In order to understand the bunker system’s main function people will have to understand that in order to work for the base proper to survive it is necessary to have at least a very well-established knowledge in a field of science. Specialized equipment needs to be bought in from the outside in order to create some of the gadgets at the base, the items seem miraculous because the base is focused on advanced AI research. Most of the items need an explanation, however they are created by the scientists there to ensure the safety of the base.
An artificial intelligence key might seem redundant, but it allows the scientists to shut it down in case an agent go rouge or lose it. The key looks like a toy in order to avoid attention being drawn to it.
Agents sleep during the day and are only allowed to go out at night. They rent apartments all over the world, they are not allowed to live in houses, they drive full electric cars because sometimes they are tasked with kidnapping someone that is about to, against their will join Cicada 3301 they do not want to draw attention to themselves, driving a completely silent car.
They recruit new members via kidnaping if they are going to join the scientist’s department. Kidnapping is done via the installation of nanometer bugging devices when the victim is not at home, these tiny bugging devices are applied via a toy looking gun it looks like a toy in order to avoid drawing attention and if an agent go rouge and wants to turn in the gun to law enforcement it wouldn’t work due to the remote detonation function that the nanometer bugging devices have, so the scientists from the base simply detonate all the bugs if an agent wants to go rouge or loses the gun. A way of recruiting someone they think is highly intelligent is to first look up their grades at school then bug their homes with the tiny bugging devices that have remote AI technology and is able to notice if someone looks at the direction of the bug, since the bug is only 1 nanometer wide a person is not able to see it but the AI can notice via a tiny camera that someone is looking at it and detonate with a small blue flash, if the person that sees it thinks it’s a bug they will be kidnapped. Usually, the organization doesn’t go that far and just kidnaps people that had good grades from a science related program from university. This is where the puzzles come in it was just a way to asses’ skills before kidnapping the individuals that would complete them.
To recruit a new agent, they simply go up to a newly released person and asks if they want to work for an international organization if they say yes, they will be granted all the necessary equipment to complete beginners’ tasks, if they say no, they will be threatened that if they say anything to another person they will be killed and then will be let go of. This is possible to do because Cicada 3301 has access to the prison files and can see which crimes inmates did so they just look up when they will be released and go find them after they left the area where there are no cameras. They do have ranks for agents as well as for people in the base.
Some of the equipment the agents use are nanometer bugs, the AI key, a serum that can knock out a rhino and night vision googles that can see in color. The agents must nanometer bug themselves so that Cicada 3301 always can watch what they are doing, the nanometer bugs have GPS so an agent must put one on their clothes. The bugs can be destroyed if the clothes are washed in 90 degrees centigrade.
The AI key can unlock doors instantaneously due to the algorithms being highly trained, so it is the primary means of getting through a locked door. The key looks like a toy and if lost it will be shut down. The serum that can knock out a rhino is used during the kidnapping of a victim; it can be applied anywhere on the body to knock out the target person. There must be two people when carrying a body. They put them in a sound isolated trunk of an electric car and depending what they want to do with the person they either take them straight to Denmark to be airlifted via helicopter to the AX base which is short for an unknown name of the base that the scientists are occupying, if the plan is to murder the person the agents will dig a large hole then place the body in there, shoot them with a .45 pistol with hollow point bullets then bury the corpse.
If a person is going to be abducted, they are not allowed to be famous or work at any university as a doctor they will also not be kidnapped if they get suspicious and calls the police at least five times and say they are in danger of being kidnapped or killed, the agents are also neither allowed to kill someone that has called the police five times. The agents often kidnap people at 4am
The agents also have a Direct Alarm Response Global Positioning System.
Sounds an alarm for incoming emergency vehicles, displayed location of vehicles in real time.
This is used to avoid police.
They also have night vision googles that can see color in the dark, these googles looks like a toy, and the googles can be shut down so they no longer work, AI is used to display the different colors of objects, this is possible due to the algorithm being highly trained.
Something else that the organization has is a one charge laser pistol that has the potential to knock a person unconscious, the pistol is not used by agents and is just one of the many things that Cicada 3301 has created.
In the base they also have other advanced AI bots that have been trained by phone data from all over the world, because of that the talking bots sounds like a human and is almost indistinguishable from a normal human being. The bots are made for research purposes.
Cicada 3301 need to store an incredible amount of data for all of this to function they have created hard drives that can store petabytes of data.
The bunker base has plenty of futuristic technologies this has been possible due to the strict work order that they have, the scientists work all day long to be able to create new tech and most people that work there only need one hour of sleep because they are geniuses, the famous Nikolai Tesla only needed two hours. The rest of the time is spent working. Another thing they can do is to cultivate nerves.
The scientists at the base also have plenty of rules that are above the people that work there no one is allowed to break them with few exceptions. I someone breaks a rule the penalty is death, then they are taken to a special room to be executed. If a scientist dies the remains are cremated at their crematorium. They do not have a ceremony for the departed. The bunker has a system where the scientists are tenants of the base and earn money from working at the various departments within. They use Danish crowns as a currency and need to pay for their own water, electricity and food. Agents on the outside also need currency, these funds were gained by illegal means due to the criminal needing a country’s own regional currency to be able to pay for stuff. The main currency gained by the agents are the dollar bill. Blackmail and threats were sent to high profile criminals, with the invention of the mobile phone it was possible to track the movements of individual people which made it possible for agents to sneak past guards. They would sneak into the bedroom or main office and place a note that says that they must pay a large sum of money or be killed, it was also made clear that under no circumstances were they to tell anyone about the note. They did this to several high-profile criminals and everyone that was affected by this paid up and told no one. From this Cicada was able to gain large amounts of money. They always took the money straight to the base and from there split some of it to agents that have worked for a long time, them go into banks and put the dollars in there then move the money from the account into other accounts.
Meanwhile in the Cicada base if someone is alone, they will be able to gain a spouse depending on what kind of sex they kidnap, if no one is available they will have to wait until someone is captured for them. Many of the people there work in pairs meaning that they work together with their spouse.
What most people work on are the computer-based technologies most of the scientists spend time on their own personal computers and they do AI research and train their algorithms, they have different ranks in the bunker it is split between workers and officers and depending on which rank the higher ups gain more knowledge about the technologies there with some of the tech being kept a secret from the lower ranks. Officers plan the daily operations in the cicada while the workers carry them out, it is generally harder to be an officer due to having more work to carry out.
Due to their large data collections, they have uncovered plenty of secrets that have to do with various things most noticeable is the knowledge of secret nazi documents that the nazis after World War two took with them or copied from memory which they brought with them from Germany to Argentina. They when it became available wrote it down on computers this made it possible for the Cicada 3301 organization to copy them and store on their servers an example of a document is that Hitler was not allowed to participate in art school not due to his lack in artistic skills but due to all the places being full of people that graduated from an ordinary school and when Hitler gained knowledge about this had the person in charge of the course seats sent to Auschwitz were he later died. This information is top secret so one could only imagine what the cicada organization has gotten their hands on. They know everything about secret military installations such as Area 51 and pine gap. This has only been possible due to the huge amount of time invested in computer research these knowledge and skills are not available to the outside, they have also solved every unsolved problem in math due to the entire base being run by people who are of genius status so there should not be any surprise to learn that this bunker is far into the future, it could be thousands of years ahead of it’s time. The nazis for example wanted to keep their documents secret at all costs and most ordinary people probably want to keep their secrets secret however the Cicada runs this global research operation where they are spying on everyone through their mobile device, they have a voice amplifying algorithm that increases the sound of the person speaking for example if you live in a large three story building they could probably hear you from the bottom floor from the top floor with a nanometer bug easily, the sound is analyzed via their computers at the base which are being processed by AI.
Another thing they could do is the redirection of missiles, they never do this however it is possible for them to gain access to the launch system after the missile is fired and change it’s course for example if nuclear weapons are being fired from the USA to Russia and vice versa it would be possible for them to change it’s course and hit something else but while it is possible for them to do this they are not allowed to do this because of one of their rules that state that they may not interfere with the outside unless it has been turned into chaos what that means is that they are going to save everyone that is left alive if the planet as we know it is destroyed.
Cicada 3301 has the main goal of saving the planet in case of a nuclear war or another catastrophe. They developed several unknown technologies for this purpose the plan is to leave the base as soon as disaster hits, how exactly they plan to save the planet is unknown however they will probably broadcast information to the outside how to build certain technologies and how to cure radiation sickness. They have developed a cure for all forms of cancer. It is unknown what the other technologies are that they tend to use in case of the world’s destruction. Everyone should already know that there is a possibility for things to end very badly on the planet, things like climate change and political instability are a few of the reasons.
So, what do Cicada 3301 intend to do if they manage to save the world? As far as I know they intend to first make sure everyone is safe then rebuild all infrastructure, this will probably take over a thousand years, they are working on humanoid robots which they will employ. These robots will be indistinguishable from any ordinary human being, all this will be in effort to create a one world government.
This does sound good, the fact that there is a plan in case our sins against this planet destroy it. What will happen though if they fail, or we manage to keep the planet going with out their help. If the planet manages to survive, they will probably continue their research during an indefinite amount of time and continue to abduct geniuses from the outside. If the bunker is destroyed and they fail it would surely be the end to all mankind unless we pull ourselves together.
The AX bunker has a rule that they must self-destruct if they are discovered, they have a thorium reactor which they plan to overload should they need to destroy themselves, the base is very remote and would be hard to uncover, although the base area is very large and would be easily spotted by aircraft. They cannot be spotted by satellite due to the base already having deleted themselves from all maps. If someone were able to gain knowledge about the Cicada organization their online posts about the topic would be deleted by the base. So, it is almost impossible to spread information about them and it is also hard to notice the posts being deleted because when logged in they are shown client side as being put up for everyone to read. The thorium reactor will detonate a radius of 80 kilometers. There are approximate 2000 scientists that work at the base. There is almost no chance of posting about the base on the internet unless the website is highly encrypted.
The ordinary citizen is not affected by the base activities other than their cellphone data being monitored by AI and stolen, there are concerns, however. The base has nanometer bugs and does not hesitate to bug ordinary people that gets knowledge about the base, for example people reading this letter will be on their target list over people that should be nanometer bugged.
They bug people and sometimes companies when there are no people around, they take their bugging pistol and apply the bugs everywhere, on walls, ceiling, floor and objects. Then AI and sometimes the scientists watch through the tiny camera of the bugs. They can collect data from them such as how a person moves around and how they speak. The reason why an ordinary person would get bugged like this is because the scientists will send their agents if a person tries to do something against the base like talking to the police, so far no one has done this. A person is safe from the agents if they call the police at least five times, this is one of their rules, to not harm someone that has done so.
From the ordinary persons point of view the existence of such a base would seem highly improbably this is due to the insane number of precautions taken by the military that built it. Nothing about the base construction plans leaked out to the public or any other government installation however they were afraid that something would get leaked out about the location, so they built the walls extremely thick to withstand three times Tsar bomba, the fifty-megaton bomb. This was quite the engineering achievement. They suspected that if something about the site was leaked, they would be nuked as well as other targets.
The soldiers that lived there had no plans whatsoever to rebuild the world in case of the aftermath of a nuclear war but rather had the base just to save themselves. They lived alongside civilians’ scientists and had them do all the work at the base the scientists raised concerns over their living conditions several times and urged the soldiers to start working harder than they were doing eventually things boiled over and the scientists got mad that the place wasn’t used for a better purpose then just to survive. The soldiers had their weapons in racks in another place than they were sleeping in and only had one guard to keep watch at night the weapons were unobtainable by the scientists, so they got knives and went to the soldiers’ quarters, killed the guard and began to slit the throats of the sleeping soldiers. Some of them woke up and tried to desperately fight back while others ran to the outside without clothes the scientists shut the door behind the soldiers and let them freeze to death. Only one scientist was killed. The soldiers had lived there for two years before disaster struck. And the scientists formed Cicada 3301. It is unknown how many there was at the beginning but there were both men and women among them. They needed more people so some of the scientists before it was a rule that they may not leave the base, left the base with a plan that they should look for former felons that could perform various tasks for them, there were plenty of communications equipment already inside the base. At first the base did not need new members they began recruiting when they had begun to bug peoples’ cellphones and computers due to them needing to assess a person’s skill. In the beginning during the first generations of Cicadas not everyone was a genius but rather a hard-working scientist.
Cicada 3301 has systems always connected to the internet; one might think it to be possible to break into these systems although it would be impossible to do since their systems are the most secure ones in the world.
Only the highest-ranking member of Cicada 3301 has the decryption key.
When Cicada posted their online puzzle thy used something called “pretty good privacy encryption” this was done to make sure that no one would impersonate them. This has been used accompanying every puzzle. However, there will be no more puzzles due to Cicada having deleted the PGP key. This was done to make sure that no one else in the organization would create a recruiting puzzle.
All their puzzles were made to recruit highly intelligent individuals, if a puzzle was solved by a single individual, they would receive an e-mail with instructions on what to do then be taken via helicopter to the base, they would not kidnap these individuals. Two people completed one of the puzzles on their own, one female and the other one male. The female was taken to the base did not know what it was and became suspicious over the base activities she had already taken some pictures from the outside and some other from the inside. She posted them on Google maps as a drop-down box, she used get position to gain the exact location on the base There was an open WI-FI connection to the internet which she used to leak the photos online. The pictures were only up for one day and only one person did see them. She was later executed for doing this. The man could not complete his tasks and were executed.
People that can’t complete their work inside the AX bunker are executed, also those who refuse work are executed.
There were several puzzles made for recruiting purposes people think it’s a recruiting tool for organizations such as the CIA or NSA without suspecting that it is for an international independent organization with a base in Greenland. The Liber Primus is probably the most Cicada well known puzzle where a person must decrypt Nordic runes. Cicada were critical against their own puzzles thinking some of these extremely hard mysteries were too easy. The Liber Primus for example was suspected to be cracked in seven months. They no longer wanted to use puzzles due to collective solving when they just wanted a few individuals. Cicada 3301 is an international organization with agents all over the world these agents take resources from the outside world and take them to the base via helicopter. They have recruited four helicopter pilots that take supplies and kidnaped victims to the base, they were recruited by agents asking someone with a pilot license. That were allowed to fly over Danish territory if they wanted to join an international organization. They have recruited four helicopter pilots.
The helicopter pilots know nothing about Cicada 3301. They have just gotten a location of which to fly to and deliver supplies. Their residents are unknowingly bugged by agents. They are allowed to do anything except talk about their job with the threats of death.
To the base they bring all that is necessary from the outside most of the stuff are being manufactured at the base. They gain metals from an underground mine beneath the base.
There are several ranks at Cicada 3301 such as: Worker, officer and top manager. I have talked about this before however the top manager is not the leader of the organization the council rules the base and enacts rules. Cicada produces several technologies due to having other branches then just computer science although computer science is their main thing. It is unknown how far they have come in the other fields of science because everything is being kept a closely guarded secret.
The top manager decides things about their guidelines. If a person may ignore them for example. If a person breaks a guideline, they are to be lectured by the top manager.
No one knows what goes on in the bunker, the agents know nothing either they are on a need-to-know basis because if someone managed to get captured, they can say nothing about the base location and what goes on there etc. They only know that they work for an international organization that have developed nanometer bugging devices and so on.
The largest achievement of the base was the development of telepathy. This is how I know all of this; I was telepathically bugged, and they were going to recruit me. They told me a large amount of the goings on and answered my questions. However, I did not want to be recruited by such an organization and decided to contact the police which by the way did nothing against them. However due to there being a rule that if someone contacts the police five times, they may not be kidnaped I wasn’t taken due to me calling the police via phone an additional number of times. Some things about the base I was able to piece together myself. A rather disturbing thing about the telepathy was that they used it as a disguised psychosis device meaning that people who had been affected by it would think that it was just a psychotic episode. They bug people in the world at any given time for about A year. These people were bugged because they need to gain data from the nerve patterns when talking to a person. How the machine works is that they use electrons to bind to the neurons to create a pattern then this pattern is somehow sent back through some kind of electron tunnel, it is some kind of rail system this machine creates. The reason why they do this is because they attempt to develop humanoid robots that are indistinguishable from a human. One will not be able to tell the difference looking at it from the outside. These robots are designed to help rebuild the world in case of a disaster such as I mentioned before.
How they go about bugging people with telepathy is rather simple they select at random some one that has just moved into a new place then the person selected will be bugged, they act in different ways sometimes friendly and other times scary. They try to fool individuals also by saying they should do stuff such as: someone there wants to see you should knock on the door in hopes that the person affected does this.
They need a DNA profile of the person they are going to bug for the machine to work properly.
According to Cicada 3301 the telepathy is a doomsday device, anyone on the planet can get bugged at any time and there is no way to deflect the signal other than going underground 200 meters. In other words, if the machine is built on the outside of the base, it would be the end of the world. Luckily the machine is very complex and will probably never be recreated outside the bunker.
They go about their work by always telepathically bug four people at any given time. They can be bugged like this for a year or go underground to survive it. Although the telepathy is annoying, and most people have a nervous breakdown and hang themselves because they do not know that they can go below ground to escape it. A very few numbers of people survive. Those that do probably never found out that it was in fact telepathy and probably just thought it was psychosis. Those that go to a health care center will be given medication that do not help, no one would believe in telepathy and going there might only reinforce belief that it is only psychosis another thing is that 30 percent of people are resistant to anti-psychotic medication, so it isn’t suspicious if nothing works.
There are several rules and guidelines used to make a person think it is only psychosis when they are bugged for example, they never say something that is not know to the person. They also use various types of AI bots when talking to the person in order to make sure that they say nothing that can reveal to them that it’s telepathy and most people affected by this think that they have gone insane. They can also give a person different kind of sensations in the body such as pain so a large number of things are only personally known such as the things they say. If someone attempts to record the voices via listening to them then speaking up leads them to use a special kind of bot that is intended to fool people that the person lies to others about having a psychotic episode. The voices also have a special function made to make a person concentrate on them, they can lower or increase the volume depending on what a person does for example if listening to loud music they can increase the sound so that the person affected here them despite playing loud music.
Another thing that is possible to do with the telepathy is to display three-dimensional psychosis meaning that they can give a person hallucination. Another thing they can do is to give a person the madness frequency that makes them want to scream all the time. They can read one’s mind with the machine and even see images the brain creates.
This is really a miraculous machine, and it has been used to gain data from animals as well, they gather DNA from different kinds of creatures then bug them with the machine, they can then see through the creature’s eyes and read its mind.
They also know that if they begin to talk with a creature through the telepathy, it will go insane. The creature they bug with the telepathy must have a brain meaning they can’t bug insects.
Someone must find the base at all costs then contact authorities immediately to avoid getting abducted.

2023.03.23 05:12 Seeking911 The Protect : Chapter TWO

Meke Linca’s lifeless body laid on a grand gray marble slab that stood four feet tall. Torches and candles lit the temple in a warm, quiet glow for the ceremony. Although Meke Linca wasn’t someone important, the Ritual of Death is. Many people facing the end sought the Ritual of Transition. They would live the rest of their lives in mire fracked from the earth; a luminous pale material that would eventually make its way through every vein, every blood vessel of the body. It made death a blissful event. But for the Ritual of Death, this was honorable and sacred. The Temple reserved this ritual for those who had passed from childbirth, murder, or an accident—and for those facing death despite it all. Meke was indeed courageous.
Sioba felt pity and deep sorrow for Marta and watched him as he looked over his mother’s body. It told a story all too familiar— of those whose lives should have been grand and adventurous, but they had made a stupid, selfish choice.
She measured the young man, who had forced his brooding eyes away when he noticed Mother Aeda and Mama Doni, dressed in ceremonial white tunics, and Sioba, who was dressed in a thick layer of protective cloth, standing nearby.
Marta kissed his mother one last time and stepped away. There was no one else attending, but according to Mother Aeda, at least she had her son, at least she brought life into the world. Sioba wasn’t sure that was enough. Sioba stood near the young man, who had downcast eyes and tense jaw. She admired him in a way. Not once did he fall for either Mama Doni’s or her desires for him. It’s easy for men to give up in this society, and yet there he stood.
Mother Aeda sang the rites, then handed Marta the oil, which he patted in the center of his mother’s forehead with trembling hands.
Meke protected him well; he hadn’t seen much death.
When Sioba placed her hand on Marta’s shoulder, tenderly and with respect, he started. “Your mother is at peace now,” she said, though by the wild stare of pain, she doubted Marta believed her.
He stared at her with deep blue eyes. Any woman would get lost in those eyes. “I know.”
It was time. Sioba lifted the dead woman off the ceremonial slab, with some aid, and carried her, with much effort, to the Field of Snapping Flowers.
They were watching, Sioba knew. Watching to make sure she made it through without falling into the thorny field of hissing roses and tulips. The hungry flowers snapped at her legs—with a few making their way through the protective cloth.
Sioba reached the very edge of the field. Gently, she laid Meke down, and seconds later, the flowers tore into the dead woman’s flesh.
Before Sioba sat the city of Fulna and her slums. Carriages filled the winding streets, and while only a few could afford them, sunbirds with howdahs on their backs flew in the air. Sioba wanted to stay a little longer. The night was beautiful, alive. She had been conscripted when the Fort Raids War began, but seeing the world now—seeing her people thrive—that was all that truly mattered. “This is what we fought for, Warrior Linca. And we will do it again.”
Back inside the temple, temple sisters handed ceremonial food, purposely bland for the ritual, to the four attendees. A few caught glimpses of Marta, though they knew better.
“Well, Mother Aeda, the island of Ror, off the west coast, is sinking. The Queen had evacuated all the people within a month,” Mama Doni said as she cut into her unseasoned morsel.
“Yes, I know. I had to take in a few of the sisters and mothers residing there. It’s been years since it was bombed by the aliens and their crazy magic. I’m surprised people wanted to stay.”
Sioba cared less about the conversation. Instead, she eyed Marta pointedly. He picked at his food and ate like a bird.
Mother Aeda sighed. “There’s pollution, the women have gone mad, genetic mutations have shortened many of lives there. No one knows what’s going on. Why stay?”
“Because of pride,” the young man said. Mother Aeda and Mama Doni darted their eyes at him in shock. For Sioba, a smile threatened to grow on her face. “Pride. What else can there be?”
She took a sip of the clear, flavorless wine—water would have been much better. “You’re right. I was there for a tour with the Queen and her daughters. I’ve heard that when the aliens finally made the surface and colonized Ror, they took who and what they could for magic experiments, sex, and pets. The aliens treated those there like animals. The people of Ror were mocked because of it. But guess where most of the medical innovation we see now come from? Nowhere else,” scoffed Sioba. “I would have stayed too.”
“Speaking of staying,” Mama Doni whispered, “what have you decided? You are such a good and bright young man. This world is tough for those like you.”
Sioba took another sip of wine and nearly gagged over the disgusting taste.
Marta gulped down his own. “I want to go with Madam Vedu.”
Mama Doni’s brow furrowed as she bored into Marta. It had been her who placed Marta’s photo in Sioba’s hand. And when she had set eyes upon it, upon the young, beautiful Marta, who had seemed to possess simplicity, Sioba had felt a faint epiphany, a sort of awe that pained her heart, as though Marta was meant to be in her life. And while Sioba would rather have another husband if she had to take care of another man, she was glad he accepted her offer. And besides, Mama Doni would have used him up and spit out to breed him to her daughters and whoever else, and Mother Aeda would have no say in the matter.
A man used in such ways was better than him being a dancer or a singer. That was an abomination.
“Then, we shall leave by sunrise,” Sioba announced to the young man, who coyly averted her gaze.
Beyond the walls of the stone temple were the intrusive sounds of the nighthawks. Mother Aeda stood. “Come, child. It is time to see your mother off.”
The group climbed the stairs, stepping onto the grand balcony overlooking the Field of Flowers. Nighthawks, with their shimmering feathers of purple, blue, and black, dove and lifted the clean bones of Meke Linca into the air. No one knew exactly what those creatures did with the bones, and no one dared to find out. They were simply too sacred.
Sioba, standing behind Marta, did not watch the birds and did not listen to their song, because before her, was a trembling child who had lost his mother. She wanted to relieve him of that pain, but like everyone else, he had to fight through the thick of it. He will reach the other side, she knew.
And just like that, he stopped, stiffening and turning to stone. Sioba recognized what he was doing. He was alone now—utterly and completely alone.
The sunbird was up and letting off heat, huffing the last bit of sleep into the air. The driver, appalled by the excrement Rekylo had released earlier, rested against the massive fowl and stared off into the horizon. They had been waiting for more than an hour—forty-five minutes of which was inside the hotel, but still, Sioba was tired, and the long journey back home would only make it worse. Finally, the young man, modestly dressed and with his gaze piously lowered, came through the rooftop doors with only a small luggage and a satchel. He asked without turning to her, “Where shall I put these?”
“I’ll take the luggage, young sir.” Sioba grabbed the belongings and loaded them inside the enclosed howdah—made with Sokiani steel, elaborated with gems and gold plating. Then she helped Marta into the cabin. She turned to the wind-torn face driver to let her know where they could find respite, then finally she climbed into the cabin and saw that Marta was deep in the Holy Book already. This was going to be a long trip, she thought and settled in across him before they flew into the direction of the golden horizon.
After thirty minutes in the sky, Marta had put the book down and stared out the window. It hadn’t occurred to Sioba that the young man was frightened, but she saw it then, the fear. “She’s an excellent pilot, don’t you worry. I was too, so I’ll be the one to know.” And that is true. She was good enough during the war, and that meant she was damn good any other day.
“I’m not. Well… maybe a little,” he sighed. “I’m just worried about the others out there.”
“After the war, we adapted so much of the alien’s magical skill. They figured out the things we couldn’t. In the end, it meant shit, absolute shit. Thank God and Her children. But anyway, I know sunbirds don’t usually crash into each, yet still, we figured a way to keep this beast on track and out of harm’s way, even if the person on the other sunbird was a literal baby.”
Marta chuckled nervously. He stared off again and was as quiet as ever.
Sioba surveyed the rooftops of Fulna, so different—conical and pointier than the curvy barrel roofs of her home city.
Though Ginia and Fulna were a part of the Queen’s nation, the two cities were different and eight hours apart. Usually, she wouldn’t push it. The sunbird, old as she was, could fly for ten hours straight, albeit low and at medium speed, and therefore, ease and comfort were much appreciated.
The sky was beautiful, yet boring. After three husbands, two children, a bustling family, and however many concussions she had during the war (and after too, for one doesn’t simply leave bars alone), sleep came too easy and suddenly. Boredom had a habit of poking her like a drowsy cat. “So, the plan is to land in four hours, book a room—two rooms—and then head out again when I wake up,” she announced, to calm the boy if nothing else.
Sioba watched Marta, as he had not responded. She sighed and opened a magical zine depicting a popular boy group, filling the howdah in low volume. The lead singer’s voice was smooth and seductive, nearing sultry. Their clothing was made of sheer, glittering fabric, probably from the salt hills of Zak, and their feet were adorned with henna and decorated with gemstones reminiscent of the deep sea. The song was full of passion itself, with lines describing love for a woman who was leaving for… whatever reason and how, on the night before she left, he had given her everything. It was an entirely inappropriate song to listen to with a stranger—a pious one at that. She closed the zine and nestled deep in her seat.
“Thank you,” he muttered.
Sioba scoffed at that.
They landed in a cold, desert village — much of it in eyesight. Sioba gathered Marta’s belongings and a bag of her own and entered the small hotel. The place had a musty smell, as though it had experienced a flood. Marta thought a desert as dry and as cold as this could never experience a flood. The world is always a comedian.
Sioba paid for the rooms and handed Marta his key. She showed him the way and left his presence without stating another word.
The room was simple, which was to be expected, and yet still more elaborate than his old bedroom with its carpeted floor, plush velvet sofa, and a groom dais covered in throw pillows. Marta set his things aside and plopped on the bed which gave way to his light weight but did not make a sound. He exhaled and closed his heavy eyes. He wasn’t particularly tired, just mentally exhausted. Being in close contact with Sioba was draining, he’d found. The woman said nothing and sat coldly staring out of the window, and Marta thought it the worst thing that could happen. All of this, the death of his mother, the possibility of marriage (and really, the end of that too and all the other unforeseen consequences from that decision), moving to a new place—all of it overwhelmed him.
Marta was apprehensive of Sioba. Something about her did not sit right with him. The way she looks at him… Her greedy, selfish disregard for rightful unions was one reason, yes—but more importantly, it wasn’t the only one. She had a hand in upturning his mother’s life. He remembered the red dust that could cut skin, the smell of sulfur and shit, the body-shaking cough his mother could not get rid of, the acid that burned through her skin.
And Marta was going to figure out in what way. He didn’t have a purpose, never felt like he should have one, but now the feeling was there, and Marta was going to do something about it. He had to.
Marta took a bath then dressed in a deep rose-hued tunic and covered his hair with a cream-white shawl. He touched up his eyelashes with a light brush of mascara and added a thin layer of pink lipstick to his lips—just enough to emphasize the color already there. Then he went down to the lounge area, made his way through the dancing crowd to the bar, and ordered wine. He had little money. His mother hadn’t left him much. Yet, he didn’t feel guilty for indulging in a drink.
The hotel appeared emptier when Marta had first arrived, but now chatter filled the vast room, concealing the vulgar music coming from the stereos overhead. Marta quickly gained the attention of patrons, some of which were staggeringly drunk. “Come, d-d-d-dance with m-me, b-beautiful,” a red-faced woman slurred.
“No, thank you.”
“My God, I would love to taste you tonight,” another whispered in his ear, but when he turned around, no one was there.
There were other men there, too. Some were with their spouses, some with their sponsors, and a few others without someone searching for an embrace later that night. Of course, Sioba would choose this forsaken place.
Although Marta felt the salacious stares from women around him, he gulped the rest of his wine and searched the room, and there, in a well-lit corner of the lounge, was Sioba, talking to a couple and seemed, on occasion, flirtatious and enjoying the company of a woman’s companion. She leaned into the man and said something which brought an unguarded laugh out of the man. Sioba had a demanding appearance that zines could not convey, could not depict. In places, her brown skin was cool, blemished, and blue and red, warm, and smooth in others. Her dark eyes devour you, as though you possess a secret, and she knows, and she knows you know. On her full lips, she wears a smirk barely buried, hardly there on her chiseled face, but it is as if it’s a diamond, alluring.
And then her gaze fixed on him intently.
Marta turned back around swiftly. "One more glass of wine, please.”
“You like that lady, huh?” some strange woman said, inching closer to him. “In that corner over there?”
Marta scoffed, “No.”
“Well, that’s too bad. I was hoping to make her jealous.”
That’s the last thing that would happen. “Too bad, indeed.”
The stranger threw back her head and laughed. “Oh, goodness, sweety, you are dry. Where’re you from and how did you get here?”
“Someone dragged me here,” Marta half-joked. He watched the bartender make what he’d hoped to be his drink.
The woman inched a little closer; the heat from her and the wine were doing things to Marta. He was getting warmer and desires he tried hard to bury were clawing up. And because he felt brave, he leaned into her, nearly touching her breast. She grinned, and Marta noticed her gold-plated canines. “I have a room here. We can take this there if you want to.”
Marta gazed into the woman’s eyes, which were dead with pleasure. Her lips, as soft as they seemed, pursed with selfishness. In all his days, Marta had never seen a woman look at him in that way, as though he was merely something to be consumed. He peeked over his shoulder at Sioba, who was watching them with a pointed brow. She stood—and that’s when he saw a sheathed dagger, silver and black in its sleekness. Quickly, he turned away, red-faced. He didn’t want Sioba to rescue him, but that didn’t mean he didn’t need saving.
Sioba sat beside him. “Max, a shot of your strongest for me, and give this young man whatever it is you have that’ll fill his stomach. I’ll handle Princess Sa’e’s tab as well.”
Princess Sa’e, the youngest daughter of Queen Xoya III.
That got a deep, guttural laughter out of the young woman next to him. “Goodness, Sioba. What are you, my chaperone? I know you saw how busy I was here.” Then she whispered like it mattered, “Unless you want to join us.”
Marta tapped a damped napkin on his neck. It was getting warmer.
Sioba, after emptying her shot glass and ordering another, said, “What? Fucking two people barely out of the Temple’s Life and Adulting class. Still wet behind the ears. I wouldn’t dream of it.”
Sioba turned and met Marta’s gaze. She peered at him so intensely—her eyes blazed with something Marta could not discern in that moment, for he was upset at her audacity. “A student you tried to marry, no less.”
“Ha! My word!” Princess leaned over the countertop and laughed. “I knew it! A woman like you must have an enormous appetite.”
Sioba’s gentle grin, like a woman dealing with disobedient children, had only angered him. He turned to Princess Sa’e, and whispered, “Take me to your room.”
Gently, Princess Sa’e took his nervous hand and raised it to her full and tender lips. A playful but dangerous smirk lifted on her brown, gilded face, the gold glinting in the dim light. “My pleasure.”
Without thought for he was thinking he would have headed to his room, Marta alighted from the stool and followed behind Princess Sa’e as she led him to the mirrored elevators. Princess Sa’e couldn’t wait to taste him, kissing and licking and grabbing all over him as they danced into the elevator. He had never experienced her kind of need. His moans, the way he grasped at her, may have said otherwise, but feared her kisses and quivered with fright in her grasp. He tried to think of ways to make this better, to drive up his own desire, but this wasn’t what he wanted for himself.
But a young boy must become a man.
The doors swooshed open to the foyer of a plushly carpeted room, sleek with marble and stone. Princess Sa’e grabbed him by the waist, pulling him into her while she moved deeper and deeper into the room, deeper into her dark chamber. Tripping over his robe, Marta landed on the floor still entangled with the princess, who didn’t seem to want to let him loose, not even a little bit. She placed her hand over his neck and lightly squeezed. “I can fucking tell you have never done this before. I’m going to enjoy you.”
Then she caressed her way down, over his chest, over his stomach, like tide wind over waves, until she reached the very base of his hard, and already dripping, penis. She pulled up his robe and pulled down her pants and climbed on top of him. Marta twisted and bucked with ripe desire as she gyrated on top, fixing herself until she was swallowing him, surrounding him tightly as she nibbled his chest and played with his nipples.
Marta grabbed her hips as the pleasure arched his back, him wanting more yet afraid of the unfamiliar yearning for release. Goosebumps heightened on his body and heat traveled to his face. He was red all over when he came. Princess Sa’e’s smile was callous under the cruel, dull lights. She took hold of his trembling hands and held them against the floor, leaning into him with all her weight. When she burrowed down further into him, he whimpered and called out her name. She held him down while pleasure and discomfort took hold of him, causing him to writhe and buck under her—which Princess Sa’e, holding on tightly and moaning into his ear, seemed to enjoy even more. She rolled off him once she finished and asked. “Are you okay?”
Breathing hard and shivering in the chill air, Marta could not disclose the truth. He was in a state of confusion, so he said, “Yeah. Yeah, I’m fine.” When he dared a quick glance at his member—limp, wet, and dripping—he felt shame. An immense amount of shame.
Princess Sa’e sat up. “What?” she scoffed, then laughed. “We should head to a temple and get married? Is that what you want?” She got up, sat on a lavish sofa, and lit a laced cigarette. “You would have to do more than this to become my husband.”
“Then, may I go now?” Marta asked.
“No,” Princess Sa’e answered coldly. She crossed her legs and took a long pull from her cigarette. “How do you know Sioba? Who is she to you?”
“She is nothing to me,” he sighed. Thinking about his mother, her burdensome life, saddened him. “My mother was dying and tried to marry me off before that time came. Sioba answered. I guess she’d recognized my hesitation and offered me refuge instead.”
Princess Sa’e shook her head. The dull lights played tricks on her face. Sometimes she was beautiful and innocent, and other times she appeared conniving and mischievous. “Hm, Sioba, Sioba, Si… o… ba. Always the saint when she isn’t murdering anybody. You have no other family?”
Of course, it was odd to not have a family in a culture such as theirs. Extended families were a huge part of the family unit. In fact, God created sisters, and then their husbands, just for that reason—family. But he had always known his mother to be alone. He had no one. As a child, he was even bullied for it. “Nope. None.”
“Then maybe Sioba is rightfully charitable after all.”
Marta sensed the tension in her voice. “But…”
“But that doesn’t mean that Sioba isn’t a meddling nobody. She sticks her nose in affairs not concerning her. As you know, my sister is the crown princess, but she is weak and dimwitted. Of course, I wanted the position myself, but to have her crowned is a slap to all my sisters’ faces. Anyone would have been better than her.”
“Princess Oteeb is the oldest.”
“She’s dumb. Sioba convinced my mother to crown her, saying that that’s the proper way of things.”
Still lying on the floor, Marta sat up and gestured for the cigarette. Shocked at how thin the cigarette was between his fingers, he pulled lightly, afraid it would crumble in his hands. The scent wasn’t too bad, the taste itself was bitter. In an instant, he was buzzed. “Sioba ruined my mother’s life. She sent her to the fields.”
Princess Sa’e pulled Marta up by his tunic so that he was on his knees before her. She passionately kissed him and guided him onto the sofa, though Marta was reluctant, though he knew that by going along with this, he was getting himself caught up in a scheme. The princess climbed on top of him and kissed him on the cheek.
“Then we must make her pay,” she whispered into his ear.

Social Democratic Convention of 1936 A House Divided Alternate Elections
The Social Democratic Party has come far from its humble beginnings as a splinter of the Populist Party. Capturing the public imagination of the American left after the ignominious collapse of its predecessor during the Second Civil War, the Social Democratic Party defined the country’s relationship with the dictatorship both when its disputed 1908 defeat led to the collapse of democracy and when its triumphant 1912 victory allowed President John M. Work to guide its restoration. After a following decade of disappointing electoral returns and frustrating compromises with Solidarity to counter the Federalist Reform Party, the election of President John Dewey heralded a rejuvenation of the beleaguered Social Democratic Party. Amid the perfect storm of public dissatisfaction with the capitalist system, innovative new campaign tactics, and floundering opposition, the party further shocked pundits across the political spectrum by securing an absolute majority in the popular vote and trifecta control of the government during Dewey’s reelection campaign in 1932. In the two years that followed, the Social Democratic Party achieved accomplishments decades in the making including a national workmen’s compensation scheme, tripartite negotiations between major labor union leaders and representatives of industry shepherded by the federal government, and the nationalization of the railroads, telegraphs, and telephones. However, despite these impressive successes, increasingly apparent cracks in the party threaten to tear it asunder. At the center of its internal controversy lies the 1934 Declaration of Principles authored by Connecticut Senator Devere Allen, demanding a radical turn of the party platform and a strict adherence to pacifism in foreign affairs. Thus, tensions run high as a crop of faces both new and familiar struggle to succeed President Dewey.
The Candidates

New York Governor Norman Thomas
Norman Thomas: As the focal figure of the internal party opposition to President Dewey, 52-year-old New York Governor Norman Thomas has amassed a formidable political coalition heading into the primary elections. Raised by a pastor in a deeply religious family, Thomas became convicted in his pacifistic beliefs from a young age, conscientiously objecting to serving in the Second Civil War and leaving for a missionary trip abroad rather than becoming embroiled in the Resistance to the dictatorship. Drawn into the world of politics after volunteering for the successful 1917 New York City mayoral campaign of Morris Hillquit, Thomas quickly attracted attention within the Social Democratic Party for his impressive oratory and writing skills and was soon elected as a State Senator. However, Thomas’s rise would be frustrated by a combative relationship with the urban Tammany Hall political machine which dominated much of the Social Democratic Party in New York. It would take a decade of building relationships with upstate leaders and anti-Tammany politicians for Thomas to finally secure the gubernatorial nomination in 1930, which proved to be fortuitous timing as Thomas rode the Social Democratic wave into the Governor’s mansion. In an effort that presaged President Dewey’s Great Community program, Governor Thomas implemented a highly ambitious relief program to give work to the unemployed and construct strong state-owned banks, power companies, and grain elevators. Beyond his record as governor though, Thomas became famous (or perhaps infamous) across the nation for his opposition to President Dewey on the basis of his stringent pacifism. Closely collaborating with Devere Allen on the authorship of the 1934 Declaration of Principles, Thomas also famously met with union leaders Harry Bridges and John L. Lewis to organize a large-scale political strike against shipments of aid to Russia in the Russo-Japanese War.
Reflecting the tripartite makeup of his political coalition, Thomas’s campaign for the presidency has three primary facets. The first, and perhaps most pronounced, is his strictly pacifistic isolationism. Attacking international war as the “fruit of the perpetual economic warfare of capitalism”, Thomas has strictly opposed any type of military build-up or program and instead endorsed the use of tools such as trade embargoes and general strikes to combat the outbreak of war abroad. Secondly, Thomas has endorsed an even more radical direction for the party’s economic and political goals. Economically, Thomas has supported the widespread socialization of the economy under the model of worker’s self-management, declaring in favor of the immediate nationalization of industries such as banking, insurance, mining, and other “trustified” industries with the eventual goal of fully transferring to the people the ownership of industry, land, finance, and natural resources. Politically, Thomas has thrown in with radicals in the party by denouncing the “bogus democracy of capitalist parliamentarism” and calling for the abolition of the Senate and judicial review. To this end, Thomas has been critical of the amendments arising from the Second Constitutional Convention, instead preferring a more radical transformation of the country’s government to achieve a worker’s republic. Last but certainly not least, Thomas has strongly denounced the Dewey administration’s record on corruption, promising to disentangle the party from political bossism and corrupt bureaucrats and restore an honest administration to the country. Unsurprisingly, Thomas has been strongly attacked for his uncompromising radicalism and pacifism, which many of his opponents see as entirely unworkable.

Secretary of the Interior Sherwood Eddy
Sherwood Eddy: 65-year-old Secretary of the Interior Sherwood Eddy has been tapped by President Dewey as his heir apparent. Deeply religious from a young age and independently wealthy from his inheritance, Eddy took up theological studies through which he became absorbed by the incipient Social Gospel movement. This led him to join a missionary group after he completed his studies, a choice that brought him to spend the next thirty years abroad under the auspices of the YMCA to spread the gospel. Exposed to crushing poverty and political oppression while working in India, disappointed by the development of the dictatorship in his home country, and horrified by the atrocities he witnessed as a volunteer medic during the Great War, Eddy’s Christian socialist ardor only grew more pronounced in his years abroad. Thus, Eddy founded the Fellowship for a Christian Social Order to promote his ideals, becoming well acquainted with the inner circle of the Social Democratic Party through his travel seminars bringing American politicians to socialist countries such as Spain and Russia. Among those influential party men that he met was Secretary of Education John Dewey, and the two soon formed a close relationship with Eddy staunchly supporting Dewey’s 1928 campaign and helping to deliver the support of the crucial religious left constituency. Regarded as a capable administrator and loyal supporter of the president’s program, Eddy was appointed as the Secretary of the Interior and confirmed after a drawn-out battle with the opposition Congress. Thus, over the past eight years Eddy has served as one of the President’s chief lieutenants, driving the implementation of Dewey’s relief program and perhaps most famously promoting the cooperativization of agriculture across the nation.
Believing Christian ethics to be incompatible with the current capitalist system, Eddy has advanced a program similar to that of President Dewey’s although tinged by his deep religiosity. To combat the continuing Great Depression, Eddy has called for the full achievement of President Dewey’s “Great Community”, including continued deficit spending for relief, the nationalization of monopolistic industries such as electric power, gas, utilities, and mining, and substantial increases in the land value tax. Beyond just such economic proposals, Eddy has also unambiguously endorsed the amendments to implement semi-presidentialism and federal direct democratic reforms, strongly supporting the drive to rebalance the separation of powers and bring government closer to the people. However, in an assertion of his independent political identity, Eddy has also emphasized a strongly moralistic outlook on social issues, including support for the national prohibition of alcohol as well as stronger governmental action to control vices such as gambling and prostitution. As a part of this drive, Eddy has also promised to direct a greater level of public works spending towards the replacement of slums with sanitary public housing, the construction of public health facilities, and the establishment of adult educational facilities. On the ever-controversial matter of foreign affairs, Eddy has strongly opposed the aggression of the Japanese Empire on a moral basis but has shied away from suggestions of military rearmament and preferred the continued application of sanctions and international pressure. With Eddy largely staying true to the orthodoxy of the popular President John Dewey, most attacks against him have centered around his deep-seated religious morality, which his opponents claim is inappropriate to advance on a national scale, as well as his relatively advanced age compared to many of his opponents.

Secretary of Agriculture Henry A. Wallace
Henry A. Wallace: Those supporting a more moderate path for the party have rallied around the party’s icon of compromise: 48-year-old Secretary of Agriculture Henry A. Wallace. Born into a successful farming family, Wallace was too young to have fought in the Second Civil War and instead spent those tumultuous years in high school with a particular interest in agricultural science. Rumored to have privately supported the dictatorship while studying in college due to his lack of noted resistance activities, Wallace only became truly exposed to the political world after the death of his grandfather, which allowed him to take a leading role in the family’s influential agricultural journal Wallace’s Farmer. Personal tragedy would produce political gain for the young Wallace, as President Tasker H. Bliss had planned on appointing his father Henry C. Wallace as the Secretary of Agriculture before the elder Wallace’s untimely death from the complications of gallbladder surgery, and opted instead to appoint the younger Wallace. Becoming known as “Mr. Agriculture” for his exceptional 12-year tenure in the position through both the Bliss and Dewey administrations, Wallace has overseen a revitalization of the Department and tackled issues such as a farm overproduction crisis and series of droughts in the Midwest with vigor. Not just content with being known as an able administrator, Wallace also famously stepped beyond his role to propose the compromise which led to the transformative Banking Act of 1933. However, Wallace’s time in the administration has not been free from controversy, with tabloid newspapers harassing his increasingly close relationship with the mysterious Russian mystic and exile Nicholas Roerich.
True to his reputation as a compromiser, Wallace has supported a more moderate direction for the party. Rather than outright nationalization of electric power companies and other utilities, Wallace has instead endorsed the creation of publicly-owned regional economic planning and utility companies that would compete with private companies to offer cheap power while also driving rural electrification and flood control improvements. However, Wallace has not wholly shied away from nationalization of industry, and has in fact advanced nationalization proposals for industries not targeted in the plans of his opponents, including the merchant marine, the aircraft industry, and the oil industry. A strong supporter of the National Labor Relations Act, Wallace sees the government leadership of negotiations as a crucial way to advance the rights of labor in areas of working hours, workplace safety, and benefits, and has called for amendments to the act to better protect the rights and representation of agricultural workers. To further support agricultural workers, Wallace has championed a federal guarantee of a minimum income to farmers through price supports, federal purchasing programs, regulations to limit overproduction, and export to impoverished regions through global economic planning. A supporter of continuing deficit spending on public works with a particular focus on public housing, Wallace has suggested that the increases in the land value tax could help offset the growing federal debt and that otherwise the federal government should use price controls to control potential inflation. As a committed internationalist, Wallace has strongly endorsed President Dewey’s International Labor and Development Commission which would institute a level of global centralized economic planning. Furthermore, Wallace has strongly denounced the aggression of Integralist Italy and Japan, though he has cautioned against reckless expansions of the military if they would endanger the pro-democratic reforms advanced by President Bliss. The attacks against Wallace have often targeted his personal foibles, as Wallace is well known to be fascinated by spiritual matters such as Theosophy and the occult, with many believing that his close acquaintance Nicholas Roerich might have undue influence over Wallace.

New Jersey Senator Upton Sinclair
Upton Sinclair: Long discussed as a potential presidential candidate, 58-year-old New Jersey Senator Upton Sinclair has finally thrown himself into the running for the nation’s highest office. Having grown up fascinated with writing, Sinclair achieved his breakthrough success with the 1906 publication of The Jungle, a dramatic exposé of poor working conditions in the meatpacking industry. Leveraging the funds and fame from the book into a successful run for Congress in his home state of New Jersey, Sinclair continued to make a name for himself by sponsoring legislation to tackle food safety and worker’s rights in the industry. Unfortunately, Sinclair’s political success put him on a collision course with General Grant, and Sinclair was one of many Social Democratic politicians arrested and held for the duration of the dictatorship. After being freed from his confinement, Sinclair ran for and won a Senate seat representing New Jersey, which he has held ever since. Although many saw Sinclair as an up and coming politician who might well succeed President Work, such aspirations were dampened after Sinclair took a highly controversial stand against Work’s embargo of the warring powers in the Great War. Having thus burned many bridges within the party, Sinclair supported his friend and political sponsor Joseph Ray Buchanan at the party’s 1920 convention while slowly rebuilding his political reputation. A strident interventionist, Sinclair most recently gained fame for his harsh denouncement of the Japanese Invasion of Manchuria in Congress, demanding that the country provide aid to the beleaguered Russians.
Devoting great attention to the increasing importance of primaries and caucuses, Sinclair has embarked on a nationwide campaign titled “End Poverty in Columbia”. The signature proposal of Sinclair’s campaign is for the federal government to create a program to nationalize any idle farm or industry and convert it into a worker’s cooperative. In parallel with such a program, Sinclair has suggested federal legislation guaranteeing the right of workers to purchase their workplace and transform it into a worker’s cooperative should their employer seek to close it down. In further development of these worker’s communities, Sinclair has called for a greater investment into public housing, community kitchens, and communal social spaces. To fund such an expansive program, Sinclair has suggested that new forms of taxation such as taxes on stock transfers or capital gains would be necessary alongside the issuance of more government bonds and increases to the land value tax to support this program. As another method to stimulate the economy on the demand side, Sinclair has proposed a dramatic reduction in the retirement age to 50 years of age, increases in pensions paid out under the social insurance system, and a taxation scheme that would encourage the immediate expenditure of such pensions. Sinclair has supported the amendments of the Second Constitutional Convention, seeing them as a means to accelerate the passage of his EPIC program. The other facet of Sinclair’s campaign is his uncompromising interventionism; Sinclair is one of few Social Democrats to have openly endorsed military rearmament and has suggested that military intervention might be necessary in a global war to guarantee the safety of democracy. This position has proven highly controversial, with many attacking such a plan as a reckless way of stoking the fires of Grantism in the country once again. Moreover, many have questioned Sinclair’s suitability for office due to his well-known interest in the occult and his promotion of his wife’s supposed telepathic powers.

New York City Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia
Fiorello LaGuardia: While most of the so-called “sewer socialists” of the party have lent their support to Norman Thomas, those opposed to his candidacy have instead rallied around 54-year-old New York City Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia. Born to a family of Italian immigrants that moved around the country due to his father’s service in the military, LaGuardia attempted to follow his father to war upon the outbreak of the Second Civil War. However, after being denied for military service on account of his short stature, LaGuardia instead found his way to the frontlines in a different capacity: as a war correspondent for the St. Louis Dispatch. With a passion for public service, LaGuardia secured a clerical position in the State Department after the war, and in a pattern of service oft-criticized as collaboration with the Grant regime, spent the next decade in several low-level governmental administration roles. With the amnesty offered by President Work, LaGuardia pursued a seat in Congress as a Social Democrat in 1916, and won several successive terms thanks to his strong appeal among ethnic minorities and tireless advocacy for the rights of labor. After losing re-election in the Federalist Reform wave of 1928, LaGuardia was approached to run a third-party fusion campaign for Mayor of New York City by a wide-ranging coalition of anti-Tammany Social Democrats, disaffected Solidarists opposed to the urban planning initiatives of Mayor George McAneny, and moderate Federalist Reformists fearful of a more radical candidate winning in a landslide. With such broad-based support, LaGuardia easily won the 1933 election and his tenure has been hailed for his pristine anti-corruption credentials, wide-ranging relief efforts, and crackdown on the infamous labor sluggers of the city.
Portraying himself as a master administrator, LaGuardia has centered his campaign around bringing about a more honest Social Democratic government. Thus, alongside economic proposals to expand the scope and scale of public works spending and nationalize electric power and utilities, LaGuardia has also emphasized the necessity of clamping down on corruption and crime in the country. To this end, LaGuardia has emphasized an overhaul of the country’s civil service protections to be in line with the massively expanded scope of the federal government and called for stronger application of anti-corruption laws. Furthermore, LaGuardia has promised to work with local authorities to disseminate best practices to clamp down on urban crime across the country. Himself a child of immigrants and having strong political roots among ethnic minorities, LaGuardia has championed the relaxation of the country’s harsh immigration laws even despite much opposition from within the party. LaGuardia has also strongly opposed prohibition and the Interstate Spirits Trafficking Act, as well as strongly opposing the criminalization of marijuana. Although LaGuardia has maintained an internationalist outlook favoring cooperation among the nations of the world, his foreign policy positions have raised many eyebrows within the party. While much attention has been focused on the aggression of the Japanese Empire, LaGuardia has strongly denounced the antisemitism of Kaiser Wilhelm III and the German Empire even as others have suggested that Germany might form a natural ally against the Integralist powers. More controversially, LaGuardia has lavished praise upon Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, going so far as to personally raise money in support of Mussolini’s invasion of Ethiopia. Already accused of being a collaborationist, such an action has led LaGuardia’s opponents to attack him as a Grantist and Integralist.

Vice President Howard P. Lovecraft
Howard P. Lovecraft: No doubt one of the most controversial figures of the Social Democratic Party, 46-year-old Vice President Howard P. Lovecraft has launched a bid for the presidency in the culmination of his feud with President Dewey. Formerly a reactionary supporter of aristocratic rule with sympathy for the Grant dictatorship, Lovecraft made a dramatic political transformation to become a committed socialist after personally witnessing the horrors of the National Patriot League’s suppression of worker’s strikes. Writing his newfound political views into novels such as The Call of Cthulhu, Lovecraft soon became an icon of the American left in the world of popular culture. Having increased his political profile by giving a keynote speech at the 1924 National Front Convention, Lovecraft was the subject of a major draft movement at the Social Democratic Convention eight years later to replace William M. McDonald as the party’s vice presidential nominee. Reluctantly accepting the call to public office, Lovecraft thus found himself elected as Vice President of the United States in the Social Democratic landslide of 1932. However, many in the Social Democratic Party would come to regret this move. Disdainful of the duties of the Vice President, Lovecraft spent little time on his duties presiding over the Senate and even less attending cabinet meetings of the Dewey administration. Perhaps worse yet, Lovecraft has openly fought against his own President on matters of public policy. In one notorious incident, Lovecraft derailed the proposed nationalization of electric utilities in the Senate after his demands for their management by bureaucratic government experts instead of worker’s cooperatives was not met. Moreover, Lovecraft has also denounced the direct democratic amendments advanced by the President’s allies in the Second Constitutional Convention, wielding his writer’s pen to attack the amendments as surrendering control of the government to incompetent masses.
Allying himself with the Formicist movement that has been left politically homeless since its effective expulsion from the Federalist Reform Party, Lovecraft has strongly questioned foundational precepts of the Social Democratic Party, perhaps best summarized in a statement made while announcing his campaign: “Obviously government by the people is now a joke or a tragedy, although government for them remains as the most logical goal. Though the wider distribution of resources must be accepted as a cardinal policy, the narrower restriction of power will be a necessary corollary.” To this end, Lovecraft has wholly rejected the consensus of the Second Constitutional Convention, instead demanding the restriction of office-holding to those with high technical training and the limitation of the right to vote to those who have passed educational and intelligence examinations. To further this transformation, Lovecraft has called for elective offices to be largely abolished, with the levers of government turned over to bureaucratic experts charged with efficient management of the government. Lovecraft hopes to have such a government seize control of virtually all industry and agriculture in the nation in order to operate it at maximal efficiency and ensure a redistribution of resources through liberal social welfare spending. Although rather isolationist in outlook, Lovecraft has endorsed a purely defensive military buildup to guarantee the protection of the United States and even gone so far as to suggest an interest in universal military training. With such outright authoritarianism marking him as anathema to the rest of the Social Democratic Party, Lovecraft has been relentlessly attacked as a borderline Grantist for his ideology. Like some of his opponents, Lovecraft has also been criticized on the basis of his interest in the occult, thanks in large part to the subject matter of his famous novels but also due to his association with the eccentric Russian mystic Nicholas Roerich.

You will see I don't get too far on the time stamp part, and I'm sure I'm leaving out known and likely vital events we know of, too. But the sources are scattered and their narratives jumbled as well. It does begin to sketch a picture though, to tell the story as best as I can from the top of my head. I'd like to make this a lot more factual and probably should make it a lot less "editorial," as well. But it is like the old joke, what do you call a thousand lawyers at the bottom of the lake? "A good start."
I'm POSITIVE some of this is wrong. But I wanted to start somewhere before it all gets turned to mush in my brain. I keep notes but later they don't always make perfect sense to me because all the information comes in from every angle and it's spinning like a top, usually as well. . I'm not a historian, or a true crime reporter. I'm an amateur on the internet in this regard, please forgive me and help me get it right where you can. I dont mean to offend anyone, either. Hopefully we are all in this together, to establish the truth here. How can we have any real opinions or accountability or make the best policy decisions moving forward, or honor the fallen, or sue the heck out of one another, for that matter, without first establishing the basic facts.
It's just what sloughed off my keyboard this morning as I woke and once again tried to make sense of what makes no sense. why, ten months on we have to peice this together from corporate news accounts' hastily assembled snippets of B-roll, local rumor, internet conjecture (mine and yours, dear readers), leaks and bodycams edited and truncated by a hired PR firm for the city of Uvalde, and other odd sources coming across the ether and "over the transom," meaning we don't know who told us this.
This will be a partial timeline from a shattered afternoon where almost everyone present was in some sort of a state of shock, yet waving cheap and crude videocameras of various sorts and disordered eventual custody around in back of a school no one paid much attention to before, and that will soon be razed to the ground. And about which NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE other than to board up the windows and wipe up the blood. One important source seems to be a "whistleblower" who may in fact be a "bad actor" working to just help spread out bad news as slowly and poorly as possible, selectively omitting the worst of the worst. Who can say?
It's a portrait of chaos, drawn from chaos. A vision of hell from someone who wasn't even there, but can't stop imagining it somehow. I have little idea why. Some of my friends' children were there, but they were not in the 4th grade. It's probably all none of my business, my only real connection is that my children go to public schools in Texas. And I helped pay for these public records that are so well hidden. That at least means something to me. The rest just seems to spring from common decency and having an empathetic heart. I couldn't rightly say why any of us are here almost a year later but we are. It all started with a bang. And it all ends in sin and tears, like my grandmother would say.
The TLDR is that 21 people were murdered and a bunch of people who were only attempted to be murdered were mishandled by idiot cowards and dragged hither and yon while parents were tackled, tased and traumatized. The rest is just the gory sad details.
Don't read it if you can can help it. Horesman, pass by. But if you must, know this: it isn't pretty and it likely won't fix much of anything. But maybe just maybe it's part of path towards eventual healing or as Senator Gutierrez says, looking forward someday to "a slightly duller ache of pain."
There is no good place to start this narrative, the story of the "Aftermath." This is the wrong place but it's where I began so here it is:
Draft Narrative:
If it was Noah and AJ who ended up in an ambulance with Mayah, it seems like one of them may have originally been on the bus but taken off fairly quickly. The narrative from the lawsuit by the bus driver seems to say a boy was put on her bus but quickly taken off because of the seriousness of his injuries, or perhaps like with Mrs Mireles, the frantic cops seemed to have tunnel vision and couldn't find the ambulances at first and when one was finally right in front of them, they stumbled towards it instead.
It's also related that a dead child was placed into one ambulance, and that's why there were three in the other. Extrapolating from there it's also possible Mrs Mireles was eventually taken off the sidewalk and put in the ambulance with the dead boy still inside, or maybe she was moved to an ambulance the finally arrived from Main Street holding area.
The WP/TT/PP story has an excellently detailed animation of where ambulances and school busses came and went, beginning with the initial two ambulances. But it doesn't say who was placed inside any of them. The lead bus leaves the line at the funeral home where at least two livestream cams had caught the frantic scramble of LEOs to march and carry kids from the school to the bus. I'm not sure how many kids were on the bus. I haven't even re-read the lawsuit account yet.
Finding a sync point in order to put time stamps to the animation and the citizen livestream recordings for us poor saps denied full versions of public records videos is difficult. It seems likely the bulk of vehicle movement animation is drawn from DPS helicopter video and of course the funeral home cameras. We don't have those, but we can see snippets of them her and there the DPS helicopter at least. It's the one with the rangefinder marking and what looks almost like a weapon system crosshairs superimposed on screen. The story itself mentions LEO bodycam as well. Don't forget Crimson Elizondo is said to have ridden the "BORTAC express" school bus and wore an operating bodycam.
But the buses began to move - then stalled - before 1:01. That seems to tell us a few things - the "triage" was perfunctory and swift in getting the kids who could walk - and some who were carried - from the school to the BORTAC Express. But it took more than just one or two minutes, it seesm like it took almost ten to get children onto the BORTAC Express, but less than ten probably. We know one child was so wounded he was taken off the bus and put into an ambulance. likely the one manned by the EMT who treated thee kids, Mayah, AJ and Noah. That's not certain tho.
Two busses in the lead turn left onto Geraldine. Others go right. Were some on a route to civic center? Or to hospital? I need to check routes.
In a sick, sad moment on the Adam Ladezma livestream, seemingly after 12:50 and before 1:01 a US Marshall threatens parents, telling them harshly to move behind the busses or else their kids won't be brought out, and that the present delay is their fault, for standing on the grass off the street north of the busses, blocking no one and nothing. It seems like the scrum of agents are waiting inside, calling and stalling for a path to be cleared for them, rather than trusting that the public wants the same thing they want - for medical aid to be swift.
Some 5-10 minutes earlier the news had spread by word of mouth that the shooter was "in custody" or dead, it seems. The crowd is indeed increasingly distraught, frantic and hostile to LEOs. Some had likely seen a stretcher come out of the school. possibly with the dead child who was locked into an ambulance. And then abandoned, visibly, to some who could see it just across the street, undoubtedly. An air of pandemonium was cresting. No doubt many heard the gunfire at 12:50 or at minimum saw the LEOs n the west doorway courtyard react, after more than an hour of standing around trying to look tough, or whatever.
Then, a gaggle of LEOs, possibly BORTAC and seemingly although not visibly, DPS Crimson Elizondo among them rushes the scrum of children to the first bus, number 17, as seen on a livestream video from the parking lot at a distance in a blurry video. All hell breaks loose. On the door side/ funeral home side, a livestream cam catches some of the chaos as a distraught father is tackled by LEOs who prevent him from reaching his son. The crowd screams in protest, and women begin to loudly and openly wail in abject agony. They've seen THEIR children are bleeding, wounded, in shock, or worse. and all they are told is to "stay back" by the same people who didn't go in an hour ago and get them out.
They should be livid and they should be cursing and shouting, IMO. In some regards, these cops are accessory to murder IMO. A judge will never likely assess that. But they've kidnappend the kids and held them in police custody, arguably but not prevented the shooter from killing them at will for 82 minutes. And they've physcialy blocked those who were willing to immediately intervene.
On the other side of the bus, citizen Adam Ladezma, whose nieces and nephews go to Robb "films" or livestream-captures a child who, on encouragement from his family crawls out the back window of bus 17, the "BORTAC Express" as I'm calling it and is helped down and spirited away from the custody of the lawmen. As you watch, it's likely you feel a sigh of relief. These are poor custodians of children, one is likely assured despite the breakdown order occurring. Anyone would want to get away from their custody and the child readily complies. "When you find yourself going thru hell, keep going."
So there are all these things happening and more, and I'm attempting to put them into a coherent timeline. This is a bad, preliminary attempt to do so but I think the clues exist to do a much better job of outlining the actions. Perhaps the first pass should just be to name all the things that we see or know happened, in whatever order we have. I'm sorta doing that here but not in bullet-outline form, pardon the very poor choice of words.
But as the busses soon get moving, we know the BORTAC Express driver has locked the back door and that she sees Eva Mireles "dead" on the sidewalk being given CPR or at least lying there bleeding. And we know a child is taken off the bus by who she says is BORTAC, I think. She's made her initial turn onto Geraldine and the bus behind her follows her. lead. Does it have kids on it, the #2 bus? Does it have a LEO on it, or instructions where to go? I don't think so. It's just going. There may be a picture of aaLEO on the street speaking to the driver, IIRC, Ill try to find it. The driver wants the heck out of there, who wouldn't? Maybe it hopes to pick up more students and wishes to be closer. Seemingly, no one is put on board as it waits on Gerldine that I can see evidenc of however. It follows the Express off the scene.
The busses move far enough that the #3 and 4, 5, busses can turn right. As they do so, they too seem to stall as a helicopter comes in to land. I think it is the DPS chopper but I cannot be certain. If so, it's potentially one of the things that has delayed the arrival of the medical Air Flite choppers, although that sounds like mainly an oversight or foible of the Medina Fire chief, too. One of the choppers has blood supplies. The end up not getting used at the scene. I'm not sure if they go to the Uvalde hospital, the blood supplies, or back to a Trauma 1 center in San Antonio.
Dust covers the sky and drifts eventually onto the wounded (Eva Mireles, probably, gets covered in it) and and the ambulances that are newly arriving. A famous long-lens photo shows what looks like a 9/11style ash blizzard or. snowstorm-from-hell on the scene looking down Geraldine from the front of the school to chaos, disorder. We move quickly from two ambulances, one locked with a dead child inside and the other overcrowded with kids bleeding on the captains chair, to six or eight ambulances.
As the DPS helicopter moves towards the playground, the camera swings back to the west entrance and the bus lane. A stretcher gurney seems to be going IN to a newly arrived ambulacne. (See the first video WP/TT/PP story) Another gurney seemingly is OUT of another folded low on the ground by the tail of a ambulace. The tail end of the #2 bus is still there but begins to leave.
DPS tactical from all the way up in Austin has arrived somehow at 12:58 (too late, they were always going to be too late for the kids) in the midst of the bungled evacuations. Somewhere before all this they sprint to the courtyard by the west door, choking the passage of anyone. News helicopter seems to capture some of it, as well as news cameras down at the front of the school, and still photogs, too. it looks to all of them like something important is happening. It isn't. Not there, and not with them.
Somewhere in here SWAT from San Antonio enters the mix. I'm very loose on that timing. They're hard to tell apart from DPS tactical or SRT or whatever they are called. Is it them that runs as a big squad? I'm unsure. Nor can I spot where BORTAC huddles up afterwards. I think they stay inside the building because we don't spot them outside, not at tthe west and not at the south. They didn't all stay on the bus they commandeered. DPS Crimson Elizondo did, but who else?
We know ambulances have crawled across peoples yards, criss-crossing like a post apocalypse freeway scene to get around abandoned cop cars blocking the roads. They start arriving all from one direction as the second bus behind BORTAC Express finally manages to scoot off from the front of the school.
There's some sort of "load and go, load and go" action here that we don't have much information about unless we extrapolate what child was wounded how and eliminate the trio of AJ, Noah and Mayah from them, possibly.
At least one medical helicopter manages to land, to no avail at some point. Everyone is racing somewhere in an ambulance. Xavier, to his demise somewhere west of Hondo. Mrs Mirales never leaves the ambulance at the curb, as she desperately attended to possibly at near-gunpoint after UPC cops and attending EMTs have seemingly furiously pumped what little blood she had left onto the sidewalk, because her heart stopped from the traumatic way she was dragged from the room, seemingly and of course her multiple gunshot wounds from an AR-15. The "load and go" kids must also include the teacher from 111, who has first been placed in a cop car, or attempted- he didnt fit - and then onto the tailgate/ lift gate of a fire department truck? Possibly the one in the funeral home lot, which must have freaked the crowd out to witness, then finally into one of the "maze runner" arriving ambulances.
Again, I refer us all to the WP/TT/PP animation for clues to that. Somehow, "load and go" period ends. When? When the ambulances stop moving, whenever that is.
And then, finally, Rangers lock the scene down, even closing the gate to the west door. It's now a crime scene and they are in charge of the investigation. The Justice of the Peace, acting as coroner is enroute to pronounce the less than 18? bodies as dead. Unsure on the math here. Three left the classroom with a pulse who died. 21 died. (plus the shooter, #22). One body was locked in an ambulance. How many left in the classrooms when the rangers lock it down? 22 minus three who died and one who was improperly removed and locked in a (much needed) ambulance. 18 bodies including the shooters, is that right?
Eventually each is designated a letter of the alphabet and DNA sampled on site so the pieces of children and teachers can be sorted and reassembled, or at least distributed to the funeral homes in the right batches. Several are said to be more or less headless. On one, a pair of Green converse with a little heart-shaped sharpie drawn on the toe, that aids in identifaction.
Parents have been told to go to the civic center. Many are going to race to every hospital they can think of, including San Antonio instead. Mothers, fathers and grandparent must all separate to cover more ground, adding to the panic and desperation. Some have been told to go to the high school, but the high school gets some sort of possible gun threat? Again, NO ONE IS IN CHARGE.
On the curb near the front of the school sits Lexi's Rubio's mother and deputy father, utterly bereft. He's been kept out of the classroom but seems to have been told the definite news their child is not coming out. Curious news crews videotape and photograph them in their grief, until the mother of one parent seemingly arrives to join them. Eventually, they thread their way onto the campus to get away from the news anchors assembled by the school sign in the same intersection where Officer Hill had parked to witness Coronado's "wild ride" at 11:31 or so. 82 minutes and then some have passed, as have at least 19 souls? by now, some still fighting for life, the shooter one among the many dead, yet separate in category only. The blood of all spreads to mingle in the footprints and pools of fluids on the floors the gruesome CSI process begins in earnest.
In the queue on the video projector's mechanism, "Lilo and Stitch" awaits the Disney happy ending. Elvis won't be singing the finale BURNING LOVE today. Elvis has left the building. Elvis is deader than Elvis. And the children are going to meet him in Heaven, if you believe what the King does and loved to sing about. "Farther along, we'll understand it./ Farther along, we'll understand why."

When can I check in to the campgrounds?
Insomniac put together a handy entry guide for camping that is available here
What are the guidelines for camping? I have more questions related to camping!
Insomniac put together their camping guidelines and camping FAQ pages related to camping and they are very informative. I'm not going to re-type all this information here, so use the links provided.
My wristband/parking pass/shuttle pass hasn't come yet!
Be patient, they will be shipping out over 100k+ packages when they go out. You can also call Front Gate Tickets to see where your shipment is and/or set up will call pickup @ 888.512.7469. Also here's the Front Gate Tickets Support Site.
If you are coming from outside of the USA, you have no choice but to go to will call for your tickets. Please see the above event information for the box office location and hours.
I have tickets/shuttle passes/parking passes to sell!
Check out EDCTickets! Remember, even though our community is friendly, caring, and kind, there are ticket scammers out there that are willing to take advantage. Be vigilant, if something seems to good to be true, it probably is. Trust your instincts.
Where can I register my Wristband? Do I have to register my wristband?
You can register it here. The only way to recover your wristband if it is lost or stolen is to have it registered. Additionally, there is emergency contact information stored in your wristband as part of the registration process, if anything should happen to you. There is a $40 fee for a replacement wristband.
Well this is embarassing, I didn't listen to everyone and put my wristband on early/on the wrong hand, how can I get it off? I sold my wristband after I attended one of the nights, how can I get it off without damaging it?
Here's a short how-to video to remove the wristband without damaging anything. DON'T PUT YOUR WRISTBAND ON UNTIL FRIDAY BEFORE YOU LEAVE YOUR HOTEL! It goes on your right wrist, and should be able to fit a finger underneath for breathing room.
I'm going solo to the fest, how can I make friends, I need a place to stay, etc.
There are several ways of doing this. You can use the search function on the subreddit. There's also some Facebook groups dedicated to solo journeys to EDC. Once again, trust your instincts here and only stay with people that you can properly personally have vetted ahead of time.
Also, check the useful links above for ride shares, hotel shares, and tent shares!
Live sets just aren't doing it for me, I need a feel for what this place is like before I attend!
Check out Electric Daisy Carnival 2000, Under the Electric Sky, or The Electric Daisy Carnival Experience trailer from when the festival was still in L.A. If you can find The Electric Daisy Carnival Experience online for free somewhere or even for a couple bucks to stream it, I think it's a much better movie than the Under the Electric Sky movie.

FAQ

When do the set times drop? When does the app update? I can't find the app on the app store, what gives?!
Set times and app updates usually happen the week of the festival. The Insomniac app will update the week of the festival, so go ahead and install it now if you want to.
What about pool parties or other EDC Week events?
Official site here for a list of events and tickets. There's also going to be parties and pools at the campground.
What time should I leave the strip? How long does it take to get to/from to the speedway? What time should I leave the event to beat traffic?
EDC is not like a local DJ show and Las Vegas traffic SUCKS. Parking lots open at 2PM, so I would strive to leave the strip right around that time. Without traffic it will take you anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. The longer into the night you wait to leave the worse off traffic will be and the longer it will take to get to the show. I have heard nightmare scenarios of 2 or 3 hour shuttle rides, so don't let it happen to you!
Typically, you can leave before the sunrise sets or about halfway through it and not have too bad of a wait in traffic back to the strip in the morning! At the end of night 3, keep in mind normal people are also heading to work since it will technically be Monday morning. That's just going to add to the cluster fuck of traffic on I-15 and Las Vegas Blvd. Plan accordingly! If you are driving have a cooler in the trunk with water bottles!
Are we doing the Reddit meetup again this year?
We sure are. Check out the links up top regarding information on where and when we are meeting up. We are going to have two simultaneous meetups, one for campers and one for people on the Strip. All information is contained in the post linked at the very top!
What can I bring into the festival? What can't I bring into the festival? What are the searches like?
The searches could be TSA style, or you could barely get touched at all. It's pretty random. Consider stash boxers or compression underwear to get your favors inside or items that are disallowed like LED gloves, etc.
If you take your time to observe the security, you can usually get a feel of who is being a hard-ass for a dime raise for busting someone and who is just doing their job quickly and efficiently.
As for allowed and disallowed items, here's a link to those lists as well as totem guidelines.
Bring a gallon zip lock bag and put all of your belongings that you want to bring into the festival in it while you are waiting in line. All three days last year security complimented me on being organized and how easy I made their jobs because they could just scan the items in the bag, check my camelbak, give me the pat down and I was on my way.
Seriously, if you make security's lives easier in this way, they will not hassle you at all as long as you aren't trying to bring in stuff that isn't allowed. I didn't even get pat down on Night 2 because I was so up-front about all my belongings.
Any further questions, feel free to comment below, or visit the EDC Las Vegas Guide page!

Tips and Tricks!

  • Put an Emergency Contact Information (ICE) on your phone's lock screen. Android or Apple. This serves as two things.. One, if you lose your phone, someone can try to get it back to you. TWO, if you get hurt or fall out, the medics on site can get in contact with someone you know.
  • Call your bank/credit card companies and let them know you will be traveling to Vegas to avoid holds on your account.
  • Be vigilant on the Strip. Everyone is trying to hustle. Street performers will expect tips if you take pictures!
  • Hit up a Vegas buffet at least one day.
  • Stretch beforehand in your hotel room. Your muscles will thank you in the morning!
  • Wear comfy shoes and/or get insoles to replace the "stock" insoles that come with your shoes. Also, consider moleskin if your feet are prone to blistering from rubbing against your socks. Your feet will thank you!
  • Get to the festival early. Stop by the merchandise tent first thing. Items sell out fast. Consider a mobile charging locker to store your merchandise in! Additionally, if you bring all of your sealed items in on the first day (wipes, chapstick, cigarettes, gum, tampons, etc), you can keep them all in your locker overnight and not have to worry about getting 3 of each sealed item to bring in every single day. REMEMBER! Hide your lock combo from people that may peer over your shoulder or look at your combination wristband and try to get into your locker. Remain vigilant inside the festival!
  • After you get your merch and put it in your locker, you next stop should be one of the free water stands to fill up your hydration pack or water bottle. It's very important to remain hydrated, especially while the sun is still out and bearing down on you! If you tip some of the vendors, they will give you ice if the warm water turns you off.
  • If you need to eat something, consider the food trucks instead of the concession stand food. The food trucks have their company name out there and on the line when compared to the generic concession stand stuff, the quality of the food is unparalleled. Don't make the same mistake as I did a few years ago and get a raw onion sandwich masked as a "cheese steak".
  • Bring earplugs! Tinnitus sucks!
  • Wear sunscreen! Remember, if you are staying all night the sun is up at like 5AM and starts beaming down on you almost immediately.
  • If you want to ride the rides, get there early or risk missing sets while standing in line! Some rides you will be waiting for an hour or more at peak times.
  • Time-stamp your texts! There will be cell service congestion. Stamping your texts will help your friends know whenever you truly sent a message!
  • Bring an external battery pack in with you to charge your phone if you are someone who likes to take a lot of photo and video!
  • Bring cash. Credit and debit cards could possibly be hit or miss if the speedway's internet network would happen to shit the bed! Don't be stuck without a way to pay for something you need!
  • Remember to take it easy night 1! EDC is a marathon not a sprint!
  • Emergen-C packets are a lifesaver. Take one before the festival every night in order to help you recover from the night before and prepare for the festival ahead!
  • Take some time to look up and enjoy the fireworks!
  • Don't forget about the EDC parade down Rainbow Road every night! You should at least try to check it out one time out of the three nights you are there! Check the app for times, but it should be around midnight every night!
  • Follow your favorite artists' social media so that you know if they may show up unannounced, or if they are doing any surprise sets on one of the art cars, etc.
  • Send a post card to back home at the EDC Town Post Office. Mine took until October in 2017 to land, but it was a nice surprise when it finally did! Check out EDC Town in general. It's pretty sweet.
  • If you are feeling at all dehydrated or anything else medical related, visit one of the medical tents. Staff is super friendly and you WILL NOT get in trouble for seeking medical treatment, no matter your condition. If you can't make it to the medical tent, look for a Ground Control staff member to assist you or any of your friends! Look out for your fellow ravers. If you see something, say something! This will keep everyone safe and having a good time.
  • If you are going to do drugs, and especially MDMA, I suggest only doing it 1 out of the 3 nights and finding something else for the other two days. Just to let you know as an example of responsible use, in 2017 we did edibles and shatter the first night, rolled night 2, and just chilled with some shatter night 3. Everyone is different, but be safe, and TEST YOUR SHIT. Do not buy drugs at the festival. Not only do you risk getting bunk shit, but undercover cops are everywhere!
  • If you are going to drink alcohol, do so in moderation and stay hydrated! For every alcoholic drink you have, you should drink 8-16oz of water!
  • If you are a lady, bring wipes! Usually the porta-potties run out of toilet paper. It's just a fact of the festival and usually they don't get resupplied until the following day. You will thank me if you get caught in this situation.
  • Bring a hand fan for the water lines! They can get pretty hot and people will love you!
  • Try to catch at least one sunrise set one of the nights. I recommend night 2, since everyone and their mothers will be staying on night 3. Plus, Monday morning rush hour traffic on night 3 is no bueno.
  • If you have a large crew and need to split up to see different sets, plan a meeting spot! Try to pick something that is stationary, like the locker area, the cooling area, one of the buildings in EDC Town, etc.
  • Buy a smoothie or a lemonade. They are a nice change of pace from warm hydrant water.
  • Get a bandana and tie it around your neck for each night you are out there. Put it over your mouth and nose when the dust gets to be too much. Your lungs will thank you, plus you get to look like a bandit. Win/win.
  • Trains of people going in and out of the crowd are going to happen, so use them to your advantage. Become the caboose to go into or out of the crowds and use your manners! Excuse me, thank you, etc go a long way when navigating the crowd!
  • Bring good vibes, leave the judgement at the gates, and most of all, enjoy yourself and smile! EDC is a glorious wonderland of fun. Extrude the vibes you wish to receive back to you and you will have a great time, I promise!

I've seen a lot of discussion about the Magic Keyboard recently, so I thought I'd share a few tips for anyone who wants to make use of their $300+ keyboard.

Increase Tracking Speed

This was one of the first things I did when I got my Magic Keyboard:
Go to Settings -> General -> Trackpad.
In this case, the hare beats the tortoise every time: I personally put tracking speed on the highest setting.
The Magic Keyboard has a tiny trackpad, and Apple's default speed is probably too sluggish for you.

Tap To Click

Tap to click is another must-have feature.
Instead of having to click the trackpad, you can simply tap it and your iPad will register the tap as a click.
To enable it go to Settings, then General, then Trackpad, and tap the Tap To Click option.
Trust me - enable it.

Enable Two Finger Secondary Click

Like Tap To Click, this is a must-have feature.
Two Finger Secondary Click essentially lets you activate a secondary click by clicking once with two fingers instead of clicking with one finger and holding the click.
To enable it, it’s almost the exact same process as enabling Tap To Click: Settings → General → Trackpad → Two Finger Secondary Click.
The cool part about Two Finger Secondary Click is that if you also enable Tap To Click, you can simply tap two fingers to activate a secondary click.

Learn Trackpad Gestures

Here are some of the basic gestures:
For the full list (with visual references), you can check out Apple’s User Guide for iPads.
These gestures make it far easier to navigate across your iPad - even if you aren’t concerned about improving your productivity, I’d still take some time to learn them.

Remap The Escape Key

If I’m being honest, I don’t understand the appeal of this trick (probably because I’ve only used the Escape key twice in my entire life).
For those who miss the Escape key (there isn’t one on the Magic Keyboard), you can remap the Escape key to a few other keys.
To do so, go to Settings → General → Keyboards → Hardware Keyboard → Modifier Keys.
From here, click (or tap) the key you want to change. Usually, most people use the Caps Lock key.

Try "Easel Mode"

This is another trick I don’t really use much - the “easel mode” of the Magic Keyboard.
Here’s a photo of how to activate easel mode with your Magic Keyboard:
It’s a simple setup - you’ll need your iPad, a Magic Keyboard, and some kind of object that fits between the iPad and the base of the keyboard. This object will stop the iPad from falling into a completely flat position.
For more information on Easel Mode, you can check out Kharma Medic’s video.

Explore The Command Key

In iPadOS, the Command key is a powerful tool.
With many different shortcuts, the Command key can, like the other tips, help you navigate across your iPad.
What’s special about the Command key, however, is that different apps have different shortcuts offered. To check the shortcuts offered, simply hold the Command key.
There are some universal shortcuts too. For instance, pressing Cmd + space will open up Spotlight Search.
Realistically speaking, no one is going to memorize all of these shortcuts (not even you). I’d recommend finding a few shortcuts that are genuinely useful for you (something you would use multiple times a day) and memorizing them.

Explore The Globe Key

The Globe key is similar to the Command key - it acts as a shortcut key that enables to quickly do specific actions.
What’s different about the Globe key, however, is its focus on universal shortcuts. Rather than having specific shortcuts for specific apps (like the Command key), the Globe key offers global shortcuts (like navigation or multitasking).
Thanks for reading!—Adi

To avoid spoilers...
I had a request from u/readergirl132 to do a pink dolphin fact. Pink Dolphins are a fresh water species that thrive in the Amazon (South American) rivers and grow up to 8 ft long. While they are born gray, they get their pink color from scar tissue, after repeated tussles with other dolphins. For added fun, search up some pictures. They kind of look like a flying pig when they pop out of the water upside down ;)
Trigger Warning: Loss of a loved one
Mood Spolier: The update is sad
Original post
AITA for wanting my child to have my last name?
I (36m) and my wife (36f) have been together for 9 years and married for 7. Recently after many years of trying we are expecting the birth of a son in November (I know sometimes ultrasounds get it wrong but we are prepping for a boy). We couldn't be happier.
When we were dating we reached 3 months and we had one of those long discussions about the future, expectations and deal breakers.
One of the deal breakers for her was she did not want to live in the city and if married she would keep her last name. At the time I lived in an apartment in the city center but one of my deal breakers was I would want a partner to take my last name. I know the concept of the wife taking my last name is outdated but I love my last name and I loved the idea of passing it down to our kids (also I know my kids could change it if they wanted). I thought about it for a while and agreed only if our kids could have my last name though. As this was only a general discussion she agreed in principal and we moved on to the next topic.
Two months latter we agreed to move in together. Before looking for rentals I wanted to reiterate my feelings on the last name and chat as I would have to sell my apartment. We sat down and agreed to all the things that we discussed in the previous months. Now the last name of our child was the only thing I had not compromised on and it was so important to me that I got a scrap piece of paper (my niece had drawn a picture on the back) and got her to write down she agreed, date and sign it. I know it would not be legal it was more a symbolic gesture to show how important it was to me and I was serious.
Flash to now and we are choosing baby names and she vetoed one of my names because she said it didn't go with her last name. I was like what... we agreed that he would have my last name. She said she thought about it and thought that they should have her last name because she liked it, wanted to pass it down, and I should now change my last name to hers. I bought up the fact that this was discussed and agreed to before we moved in and that this was one thing I had been talking about from the start and I had compromised on her last name among other things. She said its outdated thinking which I agree, and she didn't want there to be confusion at things like school.
I retrieved the original fake contract in my memory box and showed her. She then said it means nothing and things change. There was no yelling I just left the house went to work (its after hours/ night atm). AITA for standing my ground on this issue? I'm not going to leave her because its not worth throwing away a 8 year relationship but I feel betrayed on a level I have never felt and am truly upset. She has messaged me and said I can come back when I've stopped being stupid.
I may be the asshole as I came up with the idea of this "contract" and my views on passing on my last name could be seen as outdated, as my kids could change it or get married themselves.
Top comments suggest a hyphenated last name. Several people took issue with her 'You can come home when you stop being stupid' comment. Most said NTA because OOP was not motivated by sexism or outdated values, they had already discussed how important this is to him, and she had agreed.
OOP updates in the comments:
[UPDATE 1]
Hi all, thanks for all the comments I am reading them all. I am still hiding out at work and told her I wont be back tonight. She said don't go to any friends and family as they don't need to know that we are fighting let alone what we are fighting about. I need some time to collect my thoughts so will sleep in the car in the work garage.
Thought I would clarify a few things:
I am defiantly not going to leave her. The betrayal hurts though and the way it was delivered was very blunt as it could have been bought up anytime over the last 8-9 years.
The contract was very informal although it is oddly specific and well written (she wrote it), it was more of a symbolic gesture to show her I was serious. I was going to throw it out but decided to keep it while cleaning up as it had a few notes she put on it about our future plans. It says:
"I GF of Address on the DD/MM/YY, being of sound mind and judgement relinquish all rights in choosing the surname of any and all children I bear with OP of Address. The before mentioned children will have the last name LAST_NAME. Signed GF"
As for other compromises, its not a competition so I don't want to go into those however moving out of the city was a big one, and there have been a few friends lost along the way. Ultimately seeing her happy is what I want.
My last name is important to me because of its history. I know you can be called something else and still have this connection, but to me seeing the name has always filled me with pride about my families past.
We talked about double-barrelled surname all those years ago and she ruled it out because our names do not join well (same first letter and last letter).
There was no yelling but things were getting heated so I decided to leave as not to escalate. As for "stupid" message she gets like that during arguments, but this time it hurt as I don't see this topic as stupid nor are my feelings.
[UPDATE 2]
Hi Everyone thankyou everyone for your comments no matter the judgement, and thankyou to everyone that reached out to me through messaging.
Firstly I was very happy in the car as it is a large 4wd that we have set up for weekend trips so it is very well suited to a good nights sleep. By the time I realised I had to sleep it was too late to contact anyone for a place to crash. The garage is not a large parking structure but an a 4 car garage as most of the parking is outdoors. So not the cold parking structure and sleeping on the back seat as people were probably thinking. Sorry I should have clarified.
As for this being a deal breaker issue at the time when we were first dating it was defiantly something that would have caused me to break off the relationship at that time. At the time I realised it was stupid of me to expect her to change her name if she wanted to keep it for same reasons as me, but I thought I could deal for the last name of our child.
I think 9 years of build-up and expectations came crashing down in that moment which caused me spiral. I am still not sure what the bigger issue is though, is it the re-neg on the deal, the way she handled it or the actual last name?
I received a message this morning asking me to come home so we can chat, so with some hesitancy I decided to go home and talk. I don't like chatting through messenger or text as you loose the ability to gauge the in the moment reaction.
So to cut a long story short and give you an anti climatic ending, she apologised for dropping the bomb on me. She said I had been carrying on soo long about the last name she did not know how to tell me and in the moment she chose to blurt it out. Apparently she has been thinking about it ever since she fell pregnant and always thought she would keep to the deal but being pregnant made her change her mind. We have allot of talking to do but in the mean time I am going to sleep in the spare room until this issues (plural) are sorted.
Will keep people updated as it has been helpful to read comments and put my thoughts somewhere. Thanks
OOP was declared Not The Asshole
Update 8 months later
I am going to give an abridged version, forgive me if it comes of unemotional & cold. Some may say I haven't dealt with all the turmoil emotionally and they would be right, I haven't had the time, its been moving from one crisis to another.
A week before her due date we were going to dinner with my work bosses. We decided to meet there; I caught an taxi from work & she was driving to the restaurant from home. On the way she was hit in the drivers side of the car by someone running a red light. In the ECU the Doctor made the choice to deliver the baby via emergency C-section in order to properly deal with her injuries. Later that night the decision was made to place her in a medical comma. The Baby was perfect but unfortunately, she passed away the next day from a brain haemorrhage. I was devastated of course but I haven't had the time for the luxury of grieving since the incident. My son needed me!
Baby was able to leave the hospital 3 days later & we both came home to an empty house. Everything was ready at home but I cant say it was easy. My family is pretty emotionally stunted so there was limited help from there and my wife was estranged from her family, so it was basically me and him. For those wondering he actually left hospital with no name as you have ~60 days to name a baby in Aus.
Before we get into the next bit a long story short my wife was estranged from her parents, they were abusive (Physically & mententally). She had not talked to them in 10+ yrs and they were not at our wedding. I have never met them but I am able to recognise them via photos.
After about 2 weeks of planning we had the funeral for my wife, I kept it simple and it was not a big event. At the funeral I saw her parents file into the room at the back. I should have thrown them out but instead I took pity and I had the usher put them in a side room with a live feed. After the funeral they waited in the line of well wishers. When they got to me I said I was sorry they lost a daughter and it must be hard. They weren't even worried about that, instead they began asking questions about the baby. I answered a couple and then asked my sister to take my son away to another room as I was beginning to get some weird vibes. While my sister was walking away they began to get irate demanding access to the baby. Fortunately friends and ushers were able to remove them without further incident and they left the venue.
I stayed in a hotel that night as I didn't want to return to the house after the funeral. The next day returning home they were there waiting. I managed to park in the garage & after putting baby down in his room I spoke to them through the security door. Long story short they once again demanded access to the baby. They said given the "circumstances" it would be best if they raised him now, they then told me they were going to sue for custody & left. Over the coming days they approached me at home and in public several times and while they weren't violent they gave me a feeling of total dread every time I talked to them. They wanted to take my son.
My wife always made it clear to me she never wanted them to meet the baby, on any circumstances, given her childhood. Honestly I wrestled with just letting them see him in a supervised capacity but in the end I decided to follow her wishes so I spoke to my lawyer over the next days. She said they had a good chance of some visitation as they were now the only connection to her family. Australian courts believe it is best for a child's sense of identity to know all parts of their family and it falls under grandparents rights as well. I asked about their past abuses against my wife but these could not be proved thus could not be used in court. One way to get around it though is to move far away as a a judge would not enforce visitation between states.
So acting on this information and I think also the need for a new start, I put the house up for rent, transferred by job to the office across the country, piled all our stuff into a sea container and left. The house was rented out after the first home open due to the rental crisis. I decided to dive across the country and it honestly allowed me to get my head right. I still haven't dealt with the loss properly but I can say the trip allowed me to be alone with my thoughts and appreciate my new boy. For now we have been staying in a motel apartment & will be moving into a rental house soon. Once there our stuff will be delivered & we can get settled. I haven't started work yet as I had long service leave for when the baby arrived, and I will be interviewing live in au pairs over the coming days.
So as for the name: In my original post my wife had gone back on a agreement to give the baby my last name. To solve the stalemate we were in I agreed to give him her last name, I didn't really have a choice as its her decision anyway legally. So after she passed I wrestled with this decision for weeks but in the end I decided to give my son my last name. I did this for a number of reasons including it was the original agreement, her parents were horrible and I wanted my life to be simple moving forwards instead of having to explain why we have different last names.
So for the other names the first name it was a DS9 character, and my wife's grandfather as a middle name (she loved him). My wife and I chose these 2 names together.
I know we have a long road ahead and I have therapy booked for next month but I feel like I am slowly making a little progress. I have a few friends in the new city so I am not totally alone here but my son is my focus now and I will treasure him every day.
Any advice/ comments would be good to read as I haven't had much time or anyone to tell this to.
If you'd like to leave advice for OOP, please do so in the comments here. I will let him know I have shared his posts here
I feel compelled to add, we have some Australians in the comments saying that this is not the way the law works there.
Reminder, DO NOT comment on the original posts or contact the original poster. I am not the original poster. This is a repost.

2023.03.21 01:16 wifespartypooper WIBTA if I told my wife she’s being pretentious?

My wife (30F) will be graduating with her PhD this summer. I (31M) am very proud of her and excited for her. She has worked so hard! She wants to have a party to celebrate. I am 110% supportive of this. Throughout the process she has wanted something pretty casual: like an open-house reception type. I have helped her find a venue, pick out catering, and create the guest list and invitations.
We are now working on decorations and outfits, and I’m starting to feel like she is going overboard. I was very surprised when she showed me some of the decorations she wanted. They say things like: “she believed she could, so she did”, “educated AF”, “dr in the house”, “dr [her name]”, and “now hotter by one degree”. She also wants balloons and flowers – like flower center pieces and a balloon photo backdrop thing. Then she tossed out the idea of having huge banners with her picture on them (which she said would also mean she’d need to hire a photographer). For attire, she got me a t-shirt that says “I survived my wife’s phd program” and wants me to wear it (which I think is perfect for me), but she wants to wear a formal gown (floor length and poofy), tiara, and sash that says “Ph.inisheD.”
This all seems over the top to me. Firstly, she got a PhD not a medical degree so I think it is a little pretentious for her to use the “Dr.” title. The venue already looks nice without decorations so I think having all the banners, signage, balloons, and flowers is too much – it’s a reception party around lunch time, not a wedding. I also think the sayings on the signage are pompous and send the wrong message to guests. Like she’s trying to say “I’m better than you” with her decorations. Finally, the outfit she wants… I don’t get it. She will be the center of attention anyway, she doesn’t need to dress so formally when everyone else is likely coming in shorts and t-shirts, maybe sun dresses. The only times she has dressed like this was for our wedding, and she’ll wear a tiara on her birthday, but with a regular nice dress, not a fancy gown.
Don’t come after me yet – I have kept my opinion to myself the whole time. I have said nothing but supportive things and continue to tell her she can have exactly what she wants. Up until a few days ago, I had absolutely no intention of saying anything about what I thought, however, she recently asked me if I thought people would think she’s pretentious for having a party. At that time I said “fuck ‘em if they do”. She laughed, but I am now thinking maybe I should say something? It is a little pretentious right, not just the party, but all of it together? And if she’s really concerned about what her guests will think I’d be a jerk for saying nothing… right? Or would I be the asshole for saying anything other than “do what you want”?

2023.03.21 00:40 REALCellWaters Some Posts (03 20 2023) - 3

Post 01:
Could Kelly have actually been HIV positive and infected me with HIV? She was lying to me about everything else, why not being HIV positive too? Do you recommend I get another blood test? Why is everyone treating me like I'm a delusional jackass? Is my life in danger?

Post 02:
Kelly gaslit me into having an HIV scare and taking PrEP on January 1, 2020. I'm only ASSUMING she wasn't actually HIV positive. What's stopping her from lying and infecting me with that too? She's a psychopath. We had unprotected sex. Would I know if I had HIV by now?

Post 03:
Or did they find scaring and gaslighting me about HIV sexy and funny? They where taking my places like Bed–Stuy, maybe they didn't imagine I'd react like Doug Hopkins to it and actually take PrEP. They were deceiving me. Do they feel guilty about it? Or are they psychopaths?

Post 04:
However, they're "hypodermic needle" photos and social media posts hinting something's about to happen. On December 25, 2019, it appears like Kelly is saying she's going to shoot vulnerable and innocent deer which was the last photo we took together before January 1, 2020.

Post 05:
Regardless if Kelly intended to get me to take PrEP or not, if never met Kelly the HIV scare would've never happened. I was a broken and vulnerable mental patient. They traumatized and gave me the worst experience of my life. It eels like a metaphoric rape. I feel HIV positive.

Post 06:
Kelly and Lady Gaga's intention might have actually been to make me a rockstar. However, it went haywire. I metaphorically died. In hindsight, it's so obviously a recipe for disaster. Assuming it wasn't a humiliation ritual before making me a human sacrifice. They're liars.

Post 07:
Like the proverb says, "liars when they speak the truth are not believed." How do I know they're not lying that their intentions weren't nefarious and to literally get me to take PrEP?

Post 08:
Kelly and Lady Gaga DESERVE to be in jail or the psych ward, and not the millionaires psych ward, hell on Earth - Nassau County Medical Center psych ward. They'll never go they're because they're cowards and know it's horrible. That's where they DESERVE TO BE.

Post 09:
What Kelly and Lady Gaga did FEELS LIKE metaphoric rape. If it's not legally a crime, it SHOULD BE. Are they psychopaths who couldn't care less and thought I was a moron who couldn't expose what they did? Or was it a good intentioned prank that went haywire? They're deceivers.

Post 10:
I personally believe something nefarious and satanic might have been going on, they're just putting on the innocent cute woman poker face. They intended to metaphorically rape me and get me to take PrEP. It'll be impossible to prove in court. Though, is true.

Post 11:
Assuming I can prove they gaslit me into taking PrEP to make me feel HIV positive, they'll try through revisionist history to act like they care. Bullshit! They had bad intentions and wanted to hurt me. They just never imagined I could've exposed what they did.

Post 12:
Oje Hart was probably dating Kelly, he used her to give me an HIV scare. Lady Gaga was involved too. Basically, they were taking me to bad neighborhoods and an accident was bound to happen sooner or later. It was no accident. They wanted to metaphorically rape me.
