Hi lads,
I'm looking into potentially buying a MK 7.5 PP, but the only variants available are imported from Japan. I saw some of the models from the USA have a sunroof on them and was wondering if it's only available in the US, or if anyone has experience owning an imported Japan model. Over here where I live a PP sold by 2nd hand car dealerships are about 37k USD and a non-PP is about 33k USD... Just wondering if a PP is worth it and if there are also any differences from 2017 - 2019 for the MK 7.5 PP?
Not sure if the MK 8 is worth it as it's about 47k USD.

TIA for the opinions!

After waiting two years on the waitlist for RAV4 PHEV, I finally got a text saying the next car coming in April is flagged under my name. I went into the dealership to assess how much my old car (Honda CRV) would be and he said this CRV is too old and he would only sell if we sell our Lexus UX250h which we are currently needing as the second car and has no plans to sell soon.
This seems illegal as selling our Lexus ux250h was not part of the initial contract of buying the RAV4 PHEV.
I put a complaint to Toyota Canada but it has 200 word limit. I’m curious as to know what other steps I can take to ultimately assess whether this is legal and what other actions I can take?

I am a working professional living with my parents to also help care for them as it’s very common in my culture. I am not married and do not have a mortgage or any monthly debt. I want to buy my dream car but this is my first time purchasing a new car by myself. Some stats below. I just want to figure out how likely it is I’ll be approved for a car loan like this?

Do you think the bank / dealership will approve me for a loan of $75,000? I know this is quite high and there are cheaper cars out there but I want to see if this is possible. I don’t anticipate buying a house in the next few years and I plan to pay extra every month as I am v lucky to not have bills but I have no idea if this is even approvable. I’m not asking if it’s a good idea, just if it’s possible. Wdyt?

Hey Subaru friends,
I have a maintenance question about my 2014 Impreza (regular one, sadly, not WRX) and I'm hoping you fine folks can help since I am definitely not a car expert.
Long story short, my local Subaru dealership's website recommended I have a "camshaft drive belt" replacement as part of my Impreza's maintenance schedule. My understanding was that this is synonymous with timing belt, so I expressed my confusion when I dropped it off because I thought my car had a timing chain. I've also been having problems with my serpentine belt which I requested they look at. They replaced the serpentine belt, but then also told me the camshaft drive belt is the same thing as the serpentine belt, and that my car doesn't have a timing belt.
So we kind of came full circle in the end, but I'm now questioning the information the dealership gave me and the timing belt is a pretty important maintenance item to neglect.
What's really going on here? What is the camshaft drive belt? Does my car have a timing belt that needs to be replaced?

Due to some strange circumstances, I recently had to buy a new car in within a week. Ended up going for a used 2021 GTI S with 20k~ miles, with warranty until 2027 (CPO + last owner bought extended). For reference, I came from a B7 A4 (FWD) with a Stage 1 tune + sway bars that I drove since new. (The Audi multitronic CVT is actually one of the best CVTs I’ve driven and has never given me an issue!)
I originally went into the Acura dealer, and by luck, they had a fully loaded A-Spec, 6 spd manual, Integra. The gizmos were very nice especially coming from a 17yo base Audi. I think the out-the-door price was 45k, or 36 month lease at $600 with $2000 down. The dealer was nice enough to let me test drive the car and run errands with it for a couple hours.
Things I liked about the Integra:

• 6 spd (obvs)
• Lane assist/self driving gizmos
• Sound system is VERY nice
• Shifter feels great (snic snic)
• Clutch is very easy to modulate
• Very insulated on the highway
• Wireless carplay/wireless charging pad

Things I did not like about the Integra

• The color - apex blue pearl - I might have bought it if it was white with a red interior.
• Blacked-out wheels
• Dealer installed stick-on carbon sideskirts and spoiler (10k option! wtf!)
• Wheel offset look weird
• Seats felt hard and had numb butt after just 30min of driving
• My head hits the ceiling in the back seat (5'10)
• Rear hatch rake makes it hard to see out the back
• No analog handbrake
• No rear vents
• Panels were squeaky and plasticky - it still felt like a civic.

I went over to my VW dealership that had a manual Mk8 GTI in stock. Without driving, I immediately hated the plastic bezels and lack of buttons. The shifter felt cheap (I know this is replaceable but still) and the orange peel effect on the bezels were awful. I thought I was going walk out but they had a DSG Mk7.5 on the lot (which I obviously ended up buying)
Things I liked about the GTI (/compared to the teggy)

• Build quality difference was immediately noticeable. Interior just felt model tight and solid
• The seats! Bolsters were way better and not hard on the butt. Also Plaid
• I can sit in the back without killing my neck
• Rear vents
• Steering is way more predictable (Better than a A35 AMG I drove recently)
• 2021 Mk7.5 coming standard with VAQ and bigger brakes was a big plus. Brake modulation felt way better than the integra
• Way easier to throw around than the integra, felt on-par with the A35 without bone shattering suspension
• B U T T O N S

Things I don't like about the GTI (more like nitpicks)

• Lack of automatic climate control (base model) I miss the illusion of 0.5 degree precision of my A4
• Does not have MIB3, but wired carplay is fine, at least my phone is always charged. I actually prefer the matte screen.
• Half powered seats is strange, but I guess lighter weight!
• There is some play in the climate control dials and are not as tight/clicky as the A4 interior
• Not as big of a trunk as the A4
• Halogen lights
• Not manual (actually more like 60/40 on this)

I paid 30k all in for the GTI. Obviously it's basically paying for brand new GTI which might throw some people off, but the Mk7 interior and looks are superior to the Mk8 in my book. The car is also mint and still had the new car smell. The warranty till 2027 was a big factor as well. As a bonus, I got all new tires (stock Pirelli P7 AS), the all season rubber mats (I was gonna buy them anyways) the boot tray cover, and those weird velcro blocks.
Obviously, I made my choice and I'm pretty sure I chose the better car. I’m just curious what others think.
Also if anyone knows how to permanently delete the unknown primary user pop-up that would be great lol

After 4 years at my current job and some personal problems I decided to put my two weeks in and my job and my boss refused to accept it. My father was diagnosed with cancer, chemo just started this week and my boss kept pushing for a leave of absence or family leave instead of just leaving and if I’m still miserable to give two weeks after that. The absolute truth is I hated the job before the cancer but between both things I’ve been way too stressed out. Despite telling my boss my feelings the conversation ended with “sleep on it and we’ll talk tomorrow”, 2 hrs later he calls me and asks if I’m willing to meet with hr to discuss leave. I told him we’d talk tomorrow. Within the last few months multiple other employees have left the job for various reasons and there have been huge changes made recently that a lot of people don’t like.
It’s now 11pm where I live and I’m honestly just upset and riddled with anxiety. This is my first “real” job I’m leaving even though it’s shitty and I’m honestly dreading going in tomorrow. For those who ask I’m a mechanic at a car dealership and this was the discussion with the service manager.
Is he doing the right thing or just making me feel guilty? I’d also like to add that I’m 23M and this is my first real job since graduation from a tech school.

No experience necessary for the laborer custodial or maintenance mechanic positions. It helps on the interview but you can surely think of maintenance related experience to relay for an interview. Based on fixing things around your house, the car etc. Always mention working safely.

Pro tip: You can apply for any job that has an exam opening and the test is administered local to yourself. Make sure you're serious and score decently; you can turn down the job offer. Keep a physical copy of your exam score, I believe they are good for two years.
The reason is: These job postings can be posted externally at capacity for testing, meaning they will not allow you to take the exam if they have enough qualified applicants. However, if you have a test score on the books, you are a qualified applicant.

Explanation of MVO/TTO to save time:
MVO= CDL B Can only drive box trucks on public roads, can drive anything for moves on postal property.
TTO= CDL A Can drive anything.

USPS provides the training. (Maintenance jobs at least. TTO and management...GOOD LUCK)

Hi,
I’ve just purchased a new 408. The car has been built and is in the U.K and I have also received the Vin number & the reg plate. It’s now been 2 weeks and I’m still waiting for the car to be delivered to the dealership?
The dealership has said there is a large backlog and they have no visibility of when it will turn up. They have said majority of the time they will only get a notification the day before the delivery. Is this true?
Also how long does the delivery to the dealership take on average?

I took my car into a dealership today to get my brake pads changed. On the appointment online there was only “change rotors/brake pads” option so I chose that. Now I am a female who knows very little about cars and I lost track of when they changed the rotors last time (but I knew it was done in the last 3 years). I figured the dealership would let me know if my rotors actually needed replacing and do the necessary repairs. They ended up changing the rotors and pads and it came to hundreds of dollars. I went home and filed through past invoices and see that indeed I had these replaced less than 3 years ago with less than 20k of driving. Are they not supposed to last for another 40k or so? Is it common for them to not let you know about unnecessary repairs (and because I’m a female who knows little about auto mechanics)? I should have checked this before I went into the dealership but it was a lesson learned?

Are there any good and honest car dealerships near the La Jolla/Clairemont/Mira Mesa area? I’ve searched around Yelp and found some with good reviews but I still wanna hear some anecdotal experiences.
As a college student getting his first car, I don’t really wanna get scammed, especially during these times.

Absolutely adore this vehicle, can't believe I get to drive it everyday. HOWEVER, the infotainment is pretty horrendous. I see lots of videos and pictures of people putting Tesla style screens into their cars and trucks.
From the little research I've done I might have two options that could work but I have a few questions and don't know where else to ask.
What kind of shop would do this work? Car audio specialist? The dealership? A window tint place ?
If anyone's had it done how much was labor and did you retain all original function including the steering wheel controls ?
Is that amount of money worth it for a faster gps,Android auto, and aesthetics?

Also it doesn't have to be a giant ipad level modification. Just something newer.

Long backstory: I'm [F]15 and I live in an apartment with my mom[42] and recently my dad[39]. My parents split[after moving to st.paul] when I was young and because of my mom and her issues I didn't have a relationship with my father other than spending the night with him, my uncle and his wife and my cousin every few months. Otherwise he was a ghost. When we moved back to my hometown where my family lives when I was 6 or so, my dad and I started to reconnect as much as we could. He was always nonchalant and quiet but very hardworking and usually reliable. I lived with him for a few years when I was 10 to 12 while my mom was really deep in her addiction until she got clean, and things happened and I had to stay with her. During those 2 years dad had a crazy native girlfriend [30 something] and later a crazy stupid girlfriend at the time who was 22. She was completely insufficient in any useful life skills and had previously been in 2 relationships (In the first one she was abusive as she told me and in the second one she was abused). When my father got with her she was about to lose her town boys from her second relationship for doing weed and coke during her pregnancy and since her ex had a felony and domestic charges they were going to be put into foster care. In the end she lost them both because she failed to make a genuine effort to either get clean or keep them, god forbid both at the same time. And convinced dad to get a dog I explicitly told him I did not want and was not going to help take care of. While after all that,,, dad with the scarps scraped together a semi successful restaurant.
Fast forward 7 months she's crashed all 3 of my dad's cars thanks to the weather up here near the border, and got dad sent to prison[She left an unlicensed played white car full of drugs in front of his business and he took the fall because the police said it was in his. Something I was not made aware of until 2 months after my father had disappeared from prison which I did not know about either. But I'll get to that] for what was supposed to be 4 years for an almost federal level drug charge after getting pregnant with him. I was while he was in the process of being detained, told J was going to have a sleepover at my mom's with no further details. And was later told everything[she knew] a week before his trial by my mom. During this time my dad's girlfriend decided to go on a week long trip to Las Vegas and leave the dog she insisted on getting alone in his kennel and texted me to 'take him out', mind you I did not live in the same building as her. I ended up just taking him with me much to my father's dismay because she harassed him non stop about not having the dog anymore. She later brought to Cane corso puppies while dad was in prison with his money, and got kicked out because they didn't have papers for them and it was originally a no pets building. Thankfully for her though she got into the Jeremiah program and had a place to live after, and dad did not get his security deposit back because she let his new puppies pee and poop everywhere, especially my old room which still has most of my stuff because I only packed to have a sleepover at my mom's months prior.
After all that, my dad got out 3 years early on good behavior because they were getting full of actually bad criminals and couldn't hold everyone, and let the small fries free.
So his child with her was born right after he got out, and she got her rights terminated because she was on drugs this entire pregnancy too, and dad has fought tooth and nail to get the rights to have her the past three months she's been alive. My mom thankfully let them both stay here while everything was sorted out legally,, plus it was the only place dad could get her approved to stay at. And she even let his somehow still girlfriend stay there for a bit too even though that is completely illegal because she is supposed to have no contact. After she did drugs in mom's sober apartment and I told mom how much I hate her she refused to let her over anymore, and I have also been taking care of the baby until my mom gets off work after I get home from school everyday while trying to keep my grades up and continue participating in my activities.
Another detail I remembered, One day before dad went to prison she and I got into a fight after most of the bad stuff before he went to prison, and he decided to talk to me instead of her because I was her by talking about the boys she lost to the system. After he hit me multiple times AND I hit her back once, he was present in the room and watched the entire thing. I mean I get I'm not the feminine daughter you wanted but seriously dad?
Anyways I'm working on my grades taking care of my dad's kid for a few hours every day.
On to the AITH part:
Today my mom had a dentist appointment, and my dad had to leave for work at the usual time when I got home from school. I actually skipped school for an unrelated reason but when I got home had to take care of a baby, dad told be mom had an appointment and she wouldn't be back at all today[recently mom's been hanging out with this guy she likes everyday and hour before dad gets home leaving me with the baby an hour after I would prefer to go to sleep for school and an hour longer than before.] That after her appointment she's going to a NA meeting and then going to her friends, and that mom said it was okay for my dad's ex to come over and help me watch the baby while dad was at work.
Now I have often handed her off as soon as I could, and I Am Not The BEST at taking care of her. But mom and dad know how much I hate that woman who is somehow almost ten years older than me with the maturity of a 7th grader.
So I told my father no. Dad said mom said it was okay, and I calmly said I don't care I will not let her in. I can take care of her by myself. Dad proceeded to say "Then I'll stay to let her in." So he went outside.
I assumed he went to work cause he would be late if he didn't leave then and there but just in case I did the chain lock. And who would've guessed 20 minutes later he comes back, unlocks the door and trusts to open it with his girlfriend standing beside him. He knocks when I don't open it and asks me to let them in and she is going to help me while dad is gone. I hesitantly set the baby down in her bassinet and went and unlocked the door and told dad, she is not coming inside here.
Me and dad are for a few minutes, and dad says he won't let me have her here alone" like that's been an issue until now. and I brag that "she hasn't cried since you left 20 something minutes ago and was fine till you made me set her down." He responds "you know earlier this week cos came by because the neighbors complained she was crying all night." I did not know that, and she was a fussy baby either way even when all her needs were met she would cry just cause she could. Especially so when she was with me. But all last week she was terrible for everyone including him and mom. And the fact he had the audacity to say that to me. I rudely told him no, and he said "If you won't let her in then I'll just stay home." Which is a big deal for him because he had to cut his hours when he got temporary custody of her and has been late a lot. But I was angry and would rather drop out of highschool and work to pay dads rent then be in a room with her so I said "do it." All the while her girlfriend stood there dumbfounded saying "I thought I was going to see my baby." Even though she has historically done a worse job than me, and it is straight up completely lose all custody illegal to have her with the baby outside of scheduled visits once of which she had this morning while my as home.
He did it, and right after he said "If you're going to act like an adult I'm going to treat you like an adult." Told me to get out of his face, aka 4 feet away from him in the shared living room and indirectly threatened to hit me if I didn't leave because I'm an “adult” now.
Dad has chosen to ignore my existence, and indirectly disowned me, and refused to let me help him even though his hands are full.
I've been talking to my mom as much as I could be she has only responded to a handful of my messages
It's 6 hours later close too when dad would get off work. And he called his girlfriend to get him food even though I had a pizza[I had to beg my mom to order me because dad was ignoring me and I doubt he would've got me food]and asked if he wanted any to which he ignored me again.
I'm sitting in my room and I've been crying on and off and I really don't know what to do.shoudk I apologize? Would he even listen?
Am I really the AH for making my dad not go to work cause he didn't trust me enough to leave me with his kid.
Sorry for grammatical weeks or confusion. I wrote this entire thing in a Fit of rage and depression because I'm starting to feel like I'm the one in the wrong.

Hi all,
I got my first Volvo back in August of 2022. It is a black xc40. Since I’ve gotten it I’ve had quite a few issues with the infotainment system with Google auto.

1. Was 1 hour into a 3 hour drive and all sounds just stopped working. Blinker, radio, xm radio, Bluetooth, apple carplay, just any sound that came out.
   
2. A line appeared on the screen of the infotainment system. It ended up being replaced.
   
3. The dealership couldn’t activate the internet to the car. It ended up being fixed after an overnight trip to the dealership.
   
4. Was 2 hours into a 5 hour drive, stopped for gas, started the car and the infotainment screen was black. I could plug in and hear music from my phone but the screen was black and I couldn’t change the air conditioner, couldn’t see Google maps, couldn’t see anything.
   

I wanted to see if anyone had any advice or similar issues. I had really high expectations for my first Volvo and I’m really disappointed with how it’s been the past 7 months.

I'm pretty noob when it comes to cars. I currently drive a Mazda 2005 hatchback (223k km) that's close to dying.I'm currently looking for a Prius V in Vancouver BC for the gas mileage and cargo space. I drive minimally, not too much on highways, I stay within the city. I'd like to go camping with it and go on long road trips (hence gas + space). No pets, and will mostly be by myself or with a friend.
The current owner is 2nd owner. 1st owner was an old lady.2nd owner kept ALL the records, and have done regular maintenance.
This is what i know from her:- No accidents but has 2 non-collision damage.- The bumper has been replaced with a plastic bumper(?).- The left front light has a tiny chip in the corner.- The slip indicator light is on -- Toyota dealership said it has to do with the battery which should be replaced; she was quoted $400? How much would this cost? Another inspection guy said the state of the battery is in good health: 90%. State of charge 75%
I just had an inspection and these are the results:
- Wipers need to be replaced- Coolant low- Air filter & cabin filter dirty- Engine oil low (half a litre)- Front & rear brakes are new- Winter tires are @ 50%- Summer tires are @ unknown (winter tires were on when it was inspected)- Front right wheel missing hub cap- Recommend alignment (tires starting to wear uneven)- Rear middle seat belt has some mold (we determined it's from the moisture in the air from camping)- Spark plugs haven't been done
The cost of all those will be around $850+tax
I'm not sure what else I'm missing, but, it's a big investment for me financially so I'm trying to make sense if this is something I should go for and what to expect in the near future.

If you or anyone you know had a car parked on 15th St NW between W and Belmont St NW that was hit/damaged last Saturday night / Monday morning, I have the license plate of the person that hit multiple cars (I witnessed it happen and wrote it down at the time).
