2023.03.25 01:15 Altar_Quest_Fan How does everyone run their campaigns once the party reaches high level?

I cut my proverbial teeth on D&D 3.0 and Rifts in 2001, neither of which had any sort of domain management once the party reaches name level and above. I got into OSR around 2015 but honestly I never could wrap my head around that aspect of the game as a GM. I get the idea on a conceptual level, but I just can’t imagine how to actually execute it. Like, does the game suddenly shift to Game of Thrones or something once players hit levels 9+ and can afford to build their own castles/towers/thieves guilds/churches etc? I’ve heard some people say to just play vanilla B/X and let players retire their characters once they reach the max level, but I honestly feel like domain management was a big and important aspect of OSR that shouldn’t be overlooked. So, can anyone (especially you true blue grognards who have been playing since the 70s) shed some more light on this one? Bonus points if you can provide some sort of document or book to read etc (I’ve read Matt Finch’s Old School Primer but that doesn’t really talk about domain management).

2023.03.25 00:19 MikeyFromDaReddit Gathering Tomes Speed Run Spec?

So, I had to speed run my Ore Mining spec just to unlock miner boots for a group I play with (req item.) I'm not much of a gatherer and pretty much hate the grind to unlock higher levels.
Does anyone know the cost of going from T4 animal harvester to T8 with those gathering tome? I also wonder how long would it take to turn a profit (recoup my investment in gathering tomes) if I spend the money to get tot T8, then gathering back to breakeven, then to profit.
Please no Gathering nerds telling me how easy it is to level gathering, I hate the grind associated with it, but would do it if it were immediately more profitable. I have other sources of income and a decent economy setup. I just want this option so that when guild mates find and aspects or if there is something juicy on the map or out of boredom I decide to gather in the t8 zone near my HQ.
Thank you for understanding, even if to say it would take forever as a non-committed gatherer to earn back what I spent on tomes. For reference, I'm speaking one gathering discipline not all of them!
I spent i think 3m just to get to T4 so that i could use those boots with my capping group on my alt. I was doing the grind, listening to a classic books and i just couldn't take it. I made back the 3m using the miner boots in the content my group uses it for in about 3 days. I do not think 3-5 hours of gathering at t4 would have earned me my 3m back.
Thanks boys and girls. You are loved.

2023.03.24 15:35 Fun_Jeweler_6526 Suggestion for only grandmaster combat achievement rewards.

Grandmaster is literally top tier, someone who can legitimately do the inferno taks in GM has nothing else in this game to excel on.
The incentives cannot be based on anything already in the game basically, in my personal opinion.
1: Slayer hell buffs are permanent, no longer working only on task monster, but not usable in PvP, or team raids, only solo content. No more hunting for a zuk task if you really just wanna run it, except pet hunters will want tasks, boom.
If that one is considered, solo raids with bow/tumeken will be sexy af, especially TOA.
2: New Spec animations configurable by new NPC and their new menu inside the combat guild. Godswords, Arma xbow, dwh, etc.
3: Hand-Held 3rd age scythe (untradeable), broken accuracy item, can only perform 1000 hits a day, does not pool hits over time. I think it's like 8pm est time when a new osrs day starts. Osm's fang on synthetic nootroopics, just straight up like 450+ stab accuracy with only 70 attack damage, but has its uses if you can figure it out, special attack is called cleave, character animates an aggressively downward slash that rips into the enemy, damaging them multiple times for that single hit, 50 percent spec bar usage.
4: Shield Sword, when combined with a crush weapon of your choosing, magically gains the stats of that crush weapon, like an inq mace, but it's a shield, held in the sword hand. If you want your weapon back from the shield, you have to click the shield and remove the item from the shield, also removing the stats. The bonus of the shield sword? It has 30+ all defensive stats including magic.
5: Twisted kit multiple tbow ornamental variations using twisted kit. Redesign the table like 10x, add them in and make them obtainable by using twisted kit on bow and choosing design you want.
6: Aura/toggleable out of combat activities. Just steal half of d2lods paladin aura designs and make them osrs style. Cosmetic.
7: Strange Contraption - Musket, have to make tiny cannon balls, opens a new Super GM quest - Hot Lead, where you must discover lead, and find out you need to use gloves and face mask to mine it like sulfur but worse, quest makes you make a tiny cannonball mould that makes musket ammo, musket acts as new ranged Chins but like 1.45x stronger than black chins, only usable by GM players, can be used in team content but not in PvP. Causes new effect, bleed, monster loses small amounts of HP over time, getting progressively worse, doesn't effect undead or weird magical shit.
8: Grandmaster Hellcat variation, make it a lion/tigepuma.
9: Max Grandmaster Champions Cape.
10: Beefaroni Cheesedog recipe taught by gnome restaurant lady.

MOBOX Platform Cross-Chain Deployment

As part of the MOBOX multi-universe plan, the MOBOX platform has officially launched its multi-chain collaborative development strategy in its third year. It is no longer limited to single-chain development on the Binance Smart Chain. To achieve this goal, the MOBOX team is building cross-chain protocols for multiple mainstream public chains, to achieve collaborative operability of NFTs on different public chains, capture and endow more value to MBOX, and enhance MBOX ecosystem compatibility.
This cross-chain collaboration introduces MBOX into the Ethereum ecosystem for the first time, bringing new NFT series to Arbitrum. By integrating with Arbitrum, MOBOX can interact with a large number of Ethereum users and projects. MOBOX users can use their assets and NFTs on Arbitrum and interact with other projects in the Ethereum ecosystem. Similarly, Ethereum projects and users can also use their assets and NFTs on the “MOBOX platform”, “MOBOX games”, and “MOBOX services”.
Through cross-chain functionality and NFT interoperability, MOBOX plans to achieve cross-chain interoperability of all platform products and games. This will allow the use of NFTs from other blockchains on the MOBOX platform and MOMOverse, bringing more choices to users and creating opportunities to attract a more diverse user base and resource channels. It also establishes universal collaborative operability between blockchains and applications.
The first cross-chain gateway of the MOBOX platform will be established on Ethereum and its Layer 2 network, Arbitrum. This not only brings MBOX into the Ethereum ecosystem but also brings new NFT series to Arbitrum. Through cross-chain Arbitrum, MOBOX can interact with a large number of users and projects on Ethereum, achieving more collaborative operability. MOBOX users can use MOBOX assets and NFTs on Arbitrum and interact with projects in the Ethereum ecosystem. Meanwhile, projects and users on Ethereum can also use their assets and NFTs on the MOBOX platform, MOBOX games, and MOBOX services.
Cross-chain to Arbitrum is an important step for MOBOX to expand its ecosystem and realize its vision of creating an interconnected multi-universe. The MOBOX team will continue to collaborate with other mainstream blockchains to develop cross-chain protocols and provide users with broader interoperability and usage choices.
Cross-chain to Arbitrum will bring opportunities and convenience to more users and projects, helping the development of the entire blockchain ecosystem. Through the collaborative operability of MOMO NFT and other public chain NFTs, we will jointly promote the development and innovation of the metaverse.

Enchanting MODragon NFTs: A Magical World Awaits

The MOBOX team is thrilled to unveil the imminent arrival of an enthralling new NFT series, the mesmerizing MODragon, set to grace the Ethereum Layer 2 public chain, Arbitrum. This bewitching NFT collection merges cutting-edge AI image generation sorcery, beckoning players into a realm of diverse gameplay and captivating interactive experiences within the MOBOX ecosystem.
This is the MOBOX art team’s first NFT creation that combines cutting-edge AI image generation technology. AI has great untapped potential in the creative field, and the MOBOX team plans to utilize this technology in production while ensuring compliance and not violating basic ethical standards. Additionally, the team plans to work with players to create content and participate in and promote the AI technology revolution in future community activities.
As the first phase of the MODragon NFT release unfolds, the MOBOX platform will bestow the gift of Genesis Dragon Eggs upon MOBOX players and devoted users of Arbitrum. These mystical eggs will soon hatch, unveiling the alluring MODragon NFTs that lie within. Keep a watchful eye on MOBOX’s social media and community for announcements detailing the enchanting airdrop rules.
The enthralling MODragon NFT series encompasses six elemental realms: fire, water, wood, earth, light, and darkness. MODragons that emerge from the Genesis Dragon Eggs will be blessed with one of these elemental affinities at random. As players venture deeper into this magical world, they may discover unique dual-element dragons and even the elusive four-element dragons in subsequent hatchings. Engaging gameplay, including hatching, battling, fusing, and nurturing multi-element dragons, will be unveiled in due course, showcasing the unparalleled interoperability of NFTs and adding an extra layer of enchantment to the game.

This captivating NFT series promises to become an integral aspect of the MOBOX platform, bestowing endless joy and opportunities upon our cherished community. We warmly invite all MOBOX community members to delve into the wondrous and enigmatic realm of dragons and embark on a magical adventure like no other!
As the project steadily develops, there will be more cross-chain interactive gameplay in the future, including interaction with the BNB chain and MOMO players on the BNB chain.
Stay tuned to MOBOX’s official channels for more spellbinding updates on the MODragon NFTs. Thank you for your unwavering support!

Welcome to the MOBOX World: A Dreamlike World of Infinite Possibilities

With the successful implementation of the MOBOX cross-chain protocol, our team now envisions a captivating MOBOX metaverse world inspired by the mesmerizing MOMOverse. As trailblazers in the WEB 3 domain, we began designing an innovative game four years ago that would revolutionize the blockchain gaming industry. This game empowers players with complete ownership of in-game assets, enabling them to craft and inhabit their very own fantastical multi-dimensional universes.
Our unwavering dedication is to create an immersive and rewarding experience for every player in an open, decentralized environment, encouraging each participant to contribute to community building as a member of a collective working towards a shared vision — an open multi-dimensional universe. As eternal game creators, we’ve identified a disconnect between participants and new social contracts within the existing gaming ecosystem. The MOBOX Universe brings players, designers, engineers, and creators together under a harmonious system of shared responsibilities and incentives.
Throughout the game development process, we’ve recognized the need for a more equitable operating model that breaks down the historical barriers between builders and participants, empowering everyone to create, nurture, enhance, and benefit from the fruits of our collective labor. We also strive to protect these efforts from the influence of intermediaries seeking access to distribution channels.
A fair and thriving community lies at the heart of our game’s future, and every step forward reveals the potential of this enchanting world. We are steadfast in our belief that this is the key to crafting a sustainable game, rich in content and deeply engaging for players.
In this new realm, we’re dedicated to building a truly digital universe that transcends gaming platforms, incorporating a wide array of services, applications, and tools for users to explore, play, and interact. Our grand vision includes allocating a unique continent to each mainstream public chain, home to their native populations. These continents will symbolize their respective public chains, fostering a distinctive digital ecosystem that facilitates communication between users across different public chains.
The MOMOverse, a colossal floating island situated at the center of this world, will feature diverse terrains such as land, floating islands, oceans, and enigmatic creatures. Players can claim a piece of land, build their dream homes, and engage with fellow inhabitants. They’ll have the chance to construct airships, journey to uncharted continents, engage in epic battles with hostile fleets, or trade with merchant fleets voyaging the world.
The MOBOX team is devoted to integrating all products, services, and games on the MOBOX platform into this digital universe. This boundless world teeming with possibilities will allow users to create digital assets, construct homes and cities, develop games and applications, and interact with others. We believe this digital world will not only offer users an entertaining and creative space but also become a genuine social platform that fosters open communication and collaboration between various public chain ecosystems.
Our dream is to cultivate a truly open and equal community in this digital realm, where everyone has the opportunity to participate and create their digital value. Regardless of your public chain affiliation, you’ll discover a sense of belonging and connection here. The MOBOX team will continue to work tirelessly to advance the development and enhancement of this digital world, delivering the ultimate experience and services to our users.

Embracing MOMOverse: A World of Adventure Awaits

We are thrilled to announce the seamless integration of MOMOverse’s home into the MOBOX Universe. This fusion will provide players with a grander worldview, inviting every MOMOverse resident to delve into a more diverse and vivid world.
Upon the integration of MOMOverse’s home, players can establish their domains, rise to prominence as influential lords, and vie for minerals, resources, and land for their forces. Our team has devised numerous innovative tools and gameplay features, alongside richer background stories and engaging quests.
These elements will allow players to create and explore more freely within the game. Players can enhance their economic power by establishing guilds and constructing buildings, as well as acquiring more treasures and resources by venturing into uncharted territories on the map.
We are confident that this integration process will inject more excitement and challenges into the MOBOX Universe and MOMOverse. We eagerly anticipate unveiling more surprises for our community and players in future updates. Together, let’s expand this boundless world of endless possibilities.

Introducing MOBOX Avatar 2.0

MOBOX Avatars are the magical embodiments of your virtual self within the wondrous realm of the MOMOverse. As unique manifestations of your digital essence, they bridge the gap between our world and the extraordinary MOBOX digital dimension, where your Avatar will captivate and inspire fellow adventurers.
In the mesmerizing metaverse, an Avatar serves as the cornerstone of all enchanting experiences, and our dedicated team cherishes this responsibility. The initial MOBOX Avatar 1.0 incarnation faced a number of challenges, such as lackluster color perception, limited facial features, subpar model accuracy, and insufficient image differentiation. With MOBOX Avatar 2.0, we’ve conjured a realm of dazzling improvements, including more vibrant colors and striking contrasts, intricate facial features and expressions, smoother contours, and a fully-realized three-dimensional model, ensuring each character stands out from the crowd.
Best of all, players possessing a MOBOX Avatar will be gifted a brand new Avatar 2.0 airdrop, enveloping you in the magic of our enhanced creation. The MOBOX Avatar 2.0 project is nearing its final stages of enchantment and is slated to debut alongside the world map version, inviting you to embrace your dazzling new digital identity within the MOMOverse.
Prepare to be spellbound as we eagerly anticipate the arrival of the “new” you in the ethereal world of the MOMOverse.

MBOX Tokenomics 2.0

1. Burn
The MOBOX platform is expected to burn about 135,000,000 MBOX tokens (the portion of the planned total production in the second year that has not been produced), which is equivalent to 60% of the planned total production in the second year.
2. Adjustment

  1. The daily output of MBOX in the MBOX-BNB LP mining pool has been adjusted. (As Shown Above)
  2. The daily output of MBOX collected by MOMO has been adjusted from 50,000 MBOX to 40,000 MBOX.
  3. The output of MBOX produced by the D.S.C trade and the prosperity of the MOMOverse home will remain unchanged.
  4. Although the output of MBOX produced by MOMO NFT has been adjusted, the basic consensus that MOMO is the core output of MBOX has not changed.
  5. It is expected that the updated MBOX output will meet the expectations of the third-year plan in the MOBOX white paper.
3. New Application Scenarios
  1. Cross-chain staking
  2. New liquidity staking
  3. Use and consumption in the MOBOX world
  4. Used in the new Dragon NFT series gameplay
  5. Used in the new MOBOX games “Dragon Battlefield” and “End of the World Storm”
4. Explanation of MOBOX Team and Strategic Investment Shares
In the current market environment, many companies face operational difficulties and pressures. In contrast, the MOBOX team has significant differences from other projects. First, in addition to receiving strategic investments from Binance Labs, the team has a stable source of income, including platform profitability, cooperation, and investment returns. These revenues are sufficient to support the team’s development and expansion plans for at least five years, so there is no need to sell any MBOX tokens to survive. Second, in order to achieve MOBOX’s grand vision, we will continue to attract outstanding talents in the industry and negotiate with top Web3 investment institutions to prepare high-quality resources, sign high-quality AAA-level games, and expand the ecosystem.
We firmly believe that the MOBOX platform has the potential for long-term and sustainable development. With the continuous development of products and market expansion the MOBOX ecosystem will become stronger and more dynamic, creating more value for MBOX holders.

MOBOX Fusion Hub

After completing the integration with multiple mainstream Layer 1 public chains and related Layer 2, MOBOX will launch its final version. We call it the Web 3 Games ultimate solution — MOBOX Fusion hub. Our platform is ready to provide game developers with a series of SDKs and APIs specifically tailored for blockchain games to help them develop and release games based on web 3 technology.
Currently, our Fusion hub platform has launched the first internal test version for game teams and studios related to MOBOX. We expect that games on MOBOX will be upgraded and managed through this platform. The official version of MOBOX Fusion Hub will go live after performance stabilization and large-scale testing.
We believe that blockchain technology and NFTs will play an important role in the future of the gaming industry, and our platform will be one of the pioneers of this trend. Our vision is to become the preferred platform for game developers and contribute to the development of the future gaming industry. At the same time, we will continue to improve and perfect our platform to ensure that we are always at the forefront of the gaming industry. The fusion hub platform will have the following main features:
1. Compatible with Multiple Layer 1 Public Chains
Compared to other GameFi projects, the MOBOX Open Platform can be compatible with multiple Layer 1 public chains, including but not limited to BNB chain and ETH chain. This allows our game developers to choose the underlying public chain that best suits their projects.
The MOBOX game platform provides game developers with a series of easy-to-use development tools to help them quickly build their games and seamlessly integrate them with our platform. Our platform provides the following main functions:
Mature smart contract API: We provide preset smart contract APIs to help game developers quickly write and test game-related smart contracts and use them to process transactions and other game logic.
NFT SDK support and integration: We provide easy-to-use NFT integration SDK to help game developers quickly create their own NFTs and integrate them into the game. Based on blockchain technology, using NFT as the economic currency in the game ensures the fairness and security of the game. In particular, people building NFT dApps will be able to use MOBOX’s built-in NFT market and API services to build a “plug-and-play” market for Web 3 game assets and related NFTs, providing better liquidity.
Risk control: Our platform will use multiple security measures to protect the security of the game and users. We will use multiple security measures including preventing DDoS attacks, cryptographic protection, user identity verification, and asset risk control, to ensure the security and fairness of the game.
Developer funding support: Our platform will provide support funding for game developers through MOBOX METAFund to help them launch and develop their game projects. We believe that supporting developers is the key to realizing our vision.
Developer split NFT: The MOBOX platform not only provides developers with the best revenue distribution model but also provides them with flexible support that is almost instantly credited to their accounts receivable, ensuring that developers have the necessary funds to continue their best development work and help them develop excellent games.
After successfully releasing a game on the MOBOX platform, developers will receive a special non-fungible token (P-NFT indicating) their ownership of the released game. All income generated by the game will be recorded on the blockchain to ensure complete transparency between the platform and developers. The P-NFT smart contract also serves as a revenue sharing agreement between the platform and developers, automatically transferring the income earned by developers according to the agreement to their MOBOX wallet.
Ready-to-use MOMO library: Thanks to the interoperability of MOMO NFTs, they can be used across different public chains and games. Game developers can choose from the high-quality MOMO NFT library and immediately use them in their games, saving a lot of time and money for teams and independent developers, and providing the necessary resources and strong support for their game development work.
MOBOX Community Support: The MOBOX platform provides developers with all possible support, including marketing. Through effective community management, continued platform marketing, and the addition of important ecological partners, the MOBOX platform community provides developers with a powerful marketing channel. This includes fully functional nodes on the MOBOX platform, increasingly active social media, and social media activities through our ecological partners.
By combining the above SDKs and APIs, our platform provides game developers with a better development and publishing experience as well as a wider market and support. Our vision is to become one of the leaders in the future game industry and provide developers with a more fair, transparent, and highly secure game platform.
3. MOBOX Wallet 2.0 — MOBOX Seed Wallet — Securely Sow Your Seeds, Unleash the Power of NFT Gaming!
MOBOX Wallet’s new version will focus on providing a one-stop solution for Web 3.0 game users. Here are the key features of MOBOX Wallet:
NFT Management: MOBOX Wallet is a wallet designed specifically for the gaming market. It helps NFT holders showcase all their unique ERC-721 and ERC-1155 collectibles and game assets in a more efficient and convenient way. MOBOX players can browse and filter all their MOMO NFTs in the new version wallet and quickly list or gift specific MOMO to friends.
EIP 4337 Features: MOBOX Wallet empowers Web 3 Games by combining some new features proposed in EIP 4337. For example, the Social Recovery system allows multiple users to recover the owner’s access to an account, reducing the risk of permanent loss of funds.
Diverse Gas Payment: MOBOX Wallet supports diverse gas payment methods. Game players can use different tokens or even off-chain credit cards for payment, eliminating the need to purchase cryptocurrencies in advance for NFT transactions.
Pre-approval for On-chain Transactions: MOBOX Wallet supports pre-approval for on-chain transactions to increase the smoothness of Dapp and provide a more user-friendly on-chain process.
Bundle Transactions: MOBOX Wallet supports bundle transactions, allowing game players to bundle multiple on-chain operations together. With just one signature, all the necessary transaction processes can be completed, increasing transaction efficiency.
Subscription Mode: MOBOX Wallet supports subscription mode, allowing developers to subscribe to specific events or data updates. When these events or data updates occur, the MOBOX network automatically notifies developers, helping them achieve real-time data synchronization and notification more easily.
Through these features, MOBOX Wallet provides better management and on-chain experience for game developers and NFT holders, and contributes to the development of Web 3 games. We believe that MOBOX Wallet will become one of the essential gateways connecting the traditional gaming market and Web 3.

2023.03.23 15:42 Vildara Mineral Flash Cards

When I am running games we end up with all sorts of different minerals and stones. It all goes over everyone's head and I should just say "pretty rocks" and get the same effect. I am wondering if anyone has ever found/created a series of flash cards for minerals.
This is a cross post from /rpg. The differences between the two areas is ..... significant. It has really helped me clarify why I like OSR. Again.

2023.03.22 03:34 BlameItOnBlue Please could some with experience review/advise on my load order. New to this!

Hey guys,
I'm not very clued up on using mods but have enjoyed copying other people's load orders. I have decided to try and put my own together. I deleted all of my Skyrim save data from my Xbox, including the reserve space, all previous saves, etc. and have hard reset after by holding down the on/off button until it switches off in order to clear the cache.
I understand the cruciality of the load-order being correct and I have followed a template for this one, however I am experiencing a loud tone crash at a specific place in this new play-through. I am playing for story and roleplay and to collect, rather than for a challenge around combat and so have a god-like character looking to complete the Legacy of the Dragonborn museum.
I have started the game using Live Another Life and the LOTD Guildmaster patch, 'woken up' and spoken to the first Miner and then nipped off to the Cheat Room to max skills, perks and level. I have then gathered Inigo and Lucien and have returned to the Ancient Akaviri dungeon to complete the intro to the LOTD questline as defined by the Live Another Life patch. When facing the Akaviri General at the end of the dungeon, my game crashes to the effect of the loud mechanical noise. Making Lucien and Inigo wait outside seems to have fixed this, but now I'm nervous that something within my load order will cause the game to crash whenever the three of us combat a boss within a dungeon!
Could someone with more experience take a look at my load order and let me know if there are any glaringly obvious causes for this crash, either in conflicting mods or the actual structure of the order? If there is something within the load order causing the crash, I would like to resolve before I put too many hours in to this specific play through. Thank you so much!

2023.03.21 13:41 Red_nl98 Mechanics for a mediation minigame

for my next session my party is going to encounter a problem in a mining town where the local mining guild closed the mine due to an infestation and the miners are not happy with this since they won't get paid while the mine is closed.
The campaign itself has a big theme on economy and diplomacy and I wondered if there are any mechanics for mediation between 2 opposing parties in homebrew?

Been playing for a week or so with no issues after a tiny bit of troubleshooting at the start. Just made my way to Windhelm and now the game crashes when I go into Candlehearth Inn and Ulfric's palace. It's driving me insane. It's not much, but if you can offer any insight you'd have my eternal gratitude.

2023.03.17 17:08 leonreddit8888 Slipspace Debt, Why maintaining a galaxy-spanning empire is dangerous in the Halo universe

In Halo, traveling beyond the speed of light has its consequence...
Reconciliation Debt:
All faster-than-light movement and communication create a dangerous "Reconciliation Debt" of causality violations both in the ship and the surrounding space-time. The resulting hyperspatial strain interferes with interstellar travel and communication over a wide area until the effect dissipates.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.339)
Today, I'm going to discuss the many ways that Forerunners exploited and even enslaved the fabric of reality to the point it practically backfired on them in the worst way possible.

Ships... Flying Planets... and Flying Stars...

To start off:
At the height of their power, billions of Forerunner starships plied goods and ferried passengers between stars, and enforced their vision of peace on the galaxy.
(Halo, Warfleet, p.8)
Billions of FTL-capable ships of varying size and purpose sailed across the vast realm of the Ecumene.
In fact, in just one operation alone, the Forerunners were able to deploy trillions of FTL-capable drone units called Vigilants to one star system.
Like their former human allies, the San’Shyuum had evolved on a water-rich world not far from a yellow star, within a temperate zone that allowed only a narrow range of weather. Now, however, ten thousand years after their defeat, the system was surrounded by trillions of vigilants that constantly wove in and out of space-time, sometimes so rapidly that they seemed to shape a solid sphere. This sphere extended to a distance of four hundred million kilometers from the star, and thus did not encompass four impressive gas giants whose orbits lay beyond that limit.
(Halo, Cryptum, ch.14)
Ok, so how large was the Forerunner empire?
At the start of Cryptum, Bornstellar gave us a number of how many worlds the Forerunners owned or had access to.
Some of the ideals are factually true. The Forerunners were sophisticated above all other empires and powerful almost beyond measure. Our Ecumene spanned three million fertile worlds. We had achieved the greatest heights of technology and physical knowledge, at least since the time of the Precursors, who, some say, shaped us in their image, and rewarded that image with their breath.
(Halo, Cryptum, ch.1)
However, Bornstellar was surprised that they had never stopped their expansion, and the "3 million" number was just a lie told to the general public.
“It was one cause of our war,” the Didact said. “Not the primary cause, however. Humans resented Forerunner expansion outward. For fifty years, scattered through the galactic arm, humans probed our settlements and positions. Then they allied with the San’Shyuum, combined their knowledge, and created weapons against which my warriors had little defense.”
“Settlements? I thought Forerunners didn’t need new planets—that we’d achieved maximum growth.”
The Didact sighed. “There are many things Builders do not teach to their young,” he said.
(Halo, Cryptum, ch.11)
The Encyclopedia gave us a new figure.
Planetary Engineering:
Millions, if not billions, of planets felt the touch of the Forerunners. Most of their involvement was minor and passive, with Monitors and Servitor constructs dispassionately taking measure of a world's potential as resource sites or canvassing the creatures upon it for assessment and rating.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.341)
So, ships traveling across billions of worlds...
But, in a way, the Forerunner empire wasn't limited to just the physical galaxy...
We have explored other realities, other spaces—Slipspace, denial of locale, Shunspace, trick geodetics, natal void, the photon-only realm called the Glow.
(Halo, Cryptum, ch.10)
As if that wasn't already messy enough...
Builder families and cohorts jealously guard their talent and accolades, but it was their respective guild that truly mattered. Each was focused within a narrow range of interests, but the depth of their accumulated knowledge and resources could never be underestimated — Guilds moved entire planets in competition for the reputation and attention of innovative designers.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.318)
Organizations within the Builder society transported planets across the entire Ecumene, and their planet-sized megastructures often had FTL-capabilities themselves.
These Shields could be deployed to infected systems, surgically targeting the parasite whenever it appeared, while also safeguarding massive populations which had taken shelter inside from.
(Halo, Mythos, p.18)
Translight Engines:
The scale of Forerunner slipspace travel in the galaxy ranged from the movement of individual transports to repositioning of massive construction and military installations the size of planets.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.339)
And how many Shield Worlds were there? Newer lore suggested the number would possibly be above ten thousand, based on the numerical designation of the Juridical Archive, a Shield World that served as an operating base for the Overwatch Network.
Juridical Archive
Shield World 10021
(Halo, Warfleet, p.13)
From those inner secrets, Forerunners have prodded sufficient power to change the shape of worlds, move stars, and even to contemplate shifting the axes of entire galaxies.
(Halo, Cryptum, ch.10)
If properly motivated, the Forerunners, Miners in this case, could even transport planets and stars from alternative realities...
Paradigm's Loom:
At the direction of the eldest of their rate, Miner Manipulars scoured the stars and exotic depths of Slipspace to find planets, moons, and stellar masses that possessed a strictly prescribed set of signature traces. At great cost and under the utmost secrecy, the most promising of these were hauled to a specialized world engine at the periphery of the ecumene for deconstruction.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.319)
But that still wasn't the end of the story, because Forerunners had personal-issued Slipspace devices.
The most advanced of those were given to the highest of the government officials.
"Of course. I believe the portal on Zeta Halo was issued from a personal Slipspace unit, a device that follows similar principles as those used in translocation technologies and those used in remotely sending a Halo through Slipspace, for instance. The device itself can exist in one location, on either the departure or destination side. The anomalous placement of such a device was most likely done without authorization; personal Slipspace units were forbidden to use except by special license from the Forerunner Council."
"Why forbidden?" Lessa asked.
"Imagine billions of souls regularly using personal transports across four million worlds. The immense buildup of reconciliation would have made it impossible and highly dangerous for any other space travel to occur."
(Halo, Point of Light, ch.19)
while mechanical constructs and presumably other personnel were equipped with short-range teleporters. It was also for their suits like Combat Skins (point L)) to perform Slipspace translocation, given that Warden Eternal can.
Warden Eternal:
The Warden Eternal's defensive presence takes the primary form of a Forerunner Combat Skin, including the ability to manifest multiple avatars simultaneously.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.376)
Forerunners also used Slipspace to transfer something as small as infantry weapons to the battlefield.
Used by Forerunner forces serving in Builder Security during the darkest days of the Flood conflict, the Z-520 Splinter Cannon fires unstable light mass projectiles that break apart on impact, releasing reactive fragments that devastate massed Infection Forms. Seemingly designed for use in quick-reaction and expeditionary military strikes, the Splinter Cannon can either be physically moved to a site by Soldier constructs or instantly called in to reinforce a position by use of a translocation beacon.
(Halo, Waypoint, Universe, Weapons, Splinter Cannon)
Furthermore, even their civilian structures could have inbuilt portal networks.
In their prime, the humblest Forerunner homes located on their core worlds could be deceptively immense, with rooms separated by thousands — even millions — of kilometres using Slipspace portals,... .
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.334)

Power Generation

We know that Forerunners drained cosmic energy from the multiverse itself.
Vaccum Energy:
Harvested from an infinite amount of nascent dimensions, the Forerunners fueled their their devices with near-limitless power, an essential advancement that paved the way for many of their extraordinary technological feats.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.336)
This could be done by opening up a Slipspace portal.
Cortana: "Activity! Significant slipspace event, building under the Composer."
John-117: "He's powering it up."
(Halo 4, level: Midnight)
However, new lore suggested they could do something even more perverted.
Power Core:
Forerunner starships rely on "Conversion Pods" to create seemingly endless amounts of energy by harvesting quantum fluctuation and draining caged proto-universes. More exotic sources of power, such as captured primordial black holes and muon-catalyzed fusion reactors were also used for special applications.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.338)
They played pokemon with baby universes and used them as batteries...

Making Phone calls...

The Forerunners were able to communicate instantaneously across interstellar distance through a medium called Wavespace, a narrow field within Slipspace accessible by way of powerful relay pylons. Utilizing this system allowed the Domain to link countless facets of Forerunner culture, history, and life into a vast network accessible by every Forerunner, regardless of their location within the galaxy.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.336)
Pretty self-explanatory.

Exotic Applications

Newer lore suggested that the Forerunners, somehow, can use alternative dimensions as some sort of building blocks.
Fires of Creation:
Their collaborations with the Builders were particularly fruitful and inspired, with both rates drawing upon each other's strengths and insights to create miracles of matter and energy. Among these collaborations were efforts to grow new Slipspace cores from flakes extracted from the Precursor core in Maethrillian, experiments to tap exotic natal dimensions to mass-produce stars, and the creation of permanent rifts into Slipspace.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p,319)
... Using the fabric of reality to create suns in massive numbers... Yeah...
“Explain what you mean by not in our time,” Halsey said. “I realize this is a slipspace bubble, but exactly how far out of sync are we with the galaxy?”
“Varies,” the virtual voice answered. “And can be varied. If the other space talks to you, it hears your reply fifteen or twenty times later.”
Halsey seemed to be struggling to pin Prone down to terms she understood. She tried another tack.
“Can you tell me the date in the human calendar on the outside? Access my datapad again. Extrapolate from the calendar we use.”
Prone reached out and fluttered his cilia over the datapad. “The year division is two-five-five-three. The lesser division is two.”
Lucy was now used to Prone’s turn of phrase, and understood that as February 2553. They’d been here days, yet months had elapsed outside. But what was out there waiting for them?
(Halo, Glassland, ch.13)
“How did they achieve that?” he asked. “How did they make it grow this fast?”
Prone said.
Jul struggled with the word bubble. “A glass house? A plant shelter?”
. Sometimes slower, sometimes faster.>
(Halo, Thursday War, ch.8)
All these survival mechanisms required great amounts of energy — energy in short supply after the sabotage of so many power stations.
Perhaps most impressive was the ability to suspend much of the wheel in time, lock it in stasis, turning the instalation into a great, reflective ring immune to all changes imposed from outside.
(Halo, Primordium, ch.33)
Their warships were known to use space-time as barriers similar to that of energy shieldings. Though whether that means Forerunner ships can exclude themselves from the physical reality to their respective pocket dimension is unknown.
Forerunner warships used complicate primary shield generators, creating nested layers of energy that absorbed and dissipated incoming attacks. As the Flood corrupted more fleets and adapted to containment tactics, new techniques and technologies were quickly put into use to protect Forerunners' own weapons, including the use of Degenerate Matter Coatings, Dimensionally Rotating Subassemblies, and using Spatial Anomalies as energy sinks.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.376)
Pocket dimension technologies were accessible even for common civilians, too.
In their prime, the humblest Forerunner homes located on their core worlds could be deceptively immense, with rooms separated by thousands — even millions — of kilometres using Slipspace portals, compressed spatial volumes, or composed of superimposed structures that rotated in and out of phase with each others.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.334)
We also knew the Forerunners used some kind of machines to warp space and time as well.
At the height of their power and technological ascension, the Forerunners made extensive use of programmable machine-cells at various scales that could be arranged to form the structure of tools, ships and megastructures. the smallest of these machine-cells were true nanomachines, able to manipulate objects at a molecular scale, while the largest were multifunction blocks the size of continents that could manipulate space-time itself when placed in arcane configurations.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.335)
  • Also, the Forerunners used Slipspace as somewhat a way to look into the future, or at least possible futures...
[TT: The timing and location of these battles have not been established. “Sphere” in this context is a hypersphere made up of complexes of two and three-D surfaces, or membranes, shortened in this translation to “branes,” extending into higher dimensions that combine vectors of transit, but also scalar tactical probabilities—a difficult concept to grasp, but essential to understanding Forerunner warfare. The idea of combining what amount to many-dimensional maps with scalars describing outcomes, and adjusting both as outcomes are determined, is peculiarly adapted to interstellar engagements involving slipspace travel.]
Having escorted the last Forerunners to safety, we have repositioned the last of our fleets, including those that protected Path Kural.
Their tactics have proven effective in skirmishes on the Lines of the Jat-Krula sphere.
The Falchion, former defender of the Orion complex, is one of the nine commanders trained during the Didact’s exile. For nine hundred years the Falchion worked with the Builders, but remained inwardly loyal to Warrior-Servants and the Didact, unlike many of his colleagues.
The Falchion is in command of our first clench. Four themas stand in peril of total infection.
(Halo, Silentium, String 25)
Forerunner strategy that utilised slipspace travel, nonlinear causality, and probability manipulation to conduct interstellar combat operations.
(Halo, Warfleet, p.90)
This technique is only seen be applied to the Forerunner military.
Furthermore, the Forerunners were able to weaponize Slipspace.
Stasis Tension Driver:
Utilizing Quantum Singularity Generators paired with repurposed Torison Drivers can generate localised space-time distortion that impeded the formation of Slipspace ruptures and jam superluminal communications and sensor. The technology was later adapted for the Interdiction system used by the Line Installations.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.377)
The Line:
With powerful Interdiction Pylons capable of targeting and firing into even the seething folds of Slipspace, the Line helped defend the inner regions of Forerunner empire for untold millennia, even creating a final sanctuary of protection against the Flood at the very end of the three-hundred-year conflict.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.361)

The Danger

Over-exploting of the dimensional structure on that level would accumulate Slipspace Debt, which drastically hindered the efficiency of transportation, commerce, communication, and even basic running of the Ecumene. (A)
In fact, it could be even worse.
Reconciliation Debt:
Failure to allow proper Reconciliation and mitigation of local strain may have devastating consequences, including the creation of Reference-Frame Anomalies and erosion of ships and their crew across multiple dimensions.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.339)
"Entire vessels being ripped apart" kind of worse... (B)
We saw the former kind of disaster in Cryptum.
THE PHYSICAL JOURNEY between my family’s world and the capital of the ecumene ordinarily takes less than two hours. For reasons not immediately explained to me, even traveling in the superfast Council ship, our trip took three days. All of space-time in this portion of the galaxy—perhaps al of the galaxy—was still disturbed. More than fifteen times we experienced the unavoidable effects of slipspace jump and reconciliation; an ordinary journey might have entailed one or at most two passages.
(Halo, Cryptum, ch.34)
This was partially due to the repositioning of multiple original Halo Rings that were noted to be too massive to be efficiently transported across the galaxy.
Senescent Arrays:
In addition to this, their massive size meant that interstellar transport was both costly and challenging, forcing the Builders to entirely abandon this design for another.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.342)
Their repositioning added too much weight to the fabric of reality, while, simultaneously, billions of ships and potentially thousands of planet-sized structures and literally stellar bodies were also being move across the galaxy.
  • It was simply too much...
A similar thing occured thousands of years ago.
Commisioned for the Librarian and her team to explore Path Kethona, the Audacity was a daring initiative that featured the most elaborate Slipspace drive ever built—a core so powerful that its use disrupted travel across the entire galaxy for years due to acceleration of Reconciliation Debt.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.378)
Slipspace management was ultimately to create an extremely fragile balance that was often being tipped off.
In fact, the Forerunners had a dedicated organisation whose sole job was to make sure everything could work in tandem.
Overwatch Network:
General term for core security and transit authorities of the Forerunner Ecumene. They monitored, rationed, and forbad travel to limit the build-up of Reconciliation Debt in the galaxy.
(Halo, Warfleet, p.92)
And according to the encyclopedia, their efforts weren't enough.
Reconciliation Debt:
Even the elaborate and draconian traffic management by the Ecumene's Overwatch Network authorities never fully mitigated the corrosive effects of abusing Slipspace at the scale demanded by the Forerunners, which restricted military options during the early years of the Flood outbreak.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.339)

In essence, the mastery over Slipspace paved way to the golden age of the Forerunner Ecumene, but their dependence (for commerce, communication, and energy generation) and abuse of reality could in turn threaten the very harmony of their existence.

2023.03.17 07:15 Ebonexus [Fireside], the chill Merc company with a story or two to share

With 3.18 Sorta kinda out, the fire has been warmed up just for you friend. Come, share a story, have a drink, and brush off that Microtech cold.
Fireside is a gaming community that was created with the dream that Star Citizen will release one day, and we'll etch out our own little corner of the 'verse. We've grown a lot in the many years we've been playing together, and have several other games as a team under our belt now, but we've never lost sight of the goal.
The intention is to be an honorable mercenary band, working for other orgs who need that extra little oomph during a hauling mission, or an escort, or helping as crew members on other's ships. We'll use the UEC earned by being merc's to fund our own org operations. We'll be split into 4 'Branches', but don't mistake it. We're not Para-military. We're led by Veterans and retired police members, so having a sense of organization is something that comes naturally to us. The Branches will be for 'when shit hits the fan' organization during events and operations. We won't restrict the roles you play, or how you play your game, ever.
The only thing we ask is that while you wear the Fireside tag, you don't engage in criminal activities against other players unless specifically sanctioned (Org is KOS, or a direct enemy to our efforts)
The Branches:
  • Legion - Fireside's foot soldier branch. Tonks, titan suits, and grenade launchers galore. These will be the door knockers, ground pounders, and bounty hunters of the Fireside community.
  • Armada - The primarily starfleet branch. These are our combat ship experts, from the tiniest Bucc, to the first capital ship we get our hands on. These will be the navigators, pilots, and crew.
  • R3 - Repair, Rearm, Refuel is our support branch. For anything that needs healed, restored, or reloaded, this will be your team.
  • Supply - The logistics side of the house. These are our haulers, our miners, and our salvage teams.
What makes us unique:
There's a hell of a lot of orgs out there, so what makes Fireside stand out?
  • We've been gaming together across a plethora of games for several, several years. Some of the leadership team go back as far as the original World of Warcraft. This comes with a rich history of the guild, and a longstanding tradition of keeping the community alive, even when what we hope to be our main game is still several years away.
  • We're a welcoming bunch of gamers. We've created a friendly atmosphere for all those who enjoy gaming to feel like part of the group, without ever feeling like you're an outcast or not welcome.
  • We're an adult oriented crew. All of us are 21+, a lot of us are in serious relationships / married, and a couple of us have children. This isn't your kid's roblox community.
  • 'Gray' morality alignment. I see a lot of communities on here that are either super lawful, or super anti-lawful. We're going to do what's best for Fireside, which may or may not be on the right side of the law.
  • Other games / Events. While we wait for Star Citizen's release, we've fallen in love with other games and other events. Such as a game night where we all play Jack Box party pack, or an among us night, or bi-weekly roll 20 tabletop games like DnD and Starfinder. We also play a plethora of other MMOs as they release, or multiplayer games. We continue to build that comradery.
What we're looking for:
  • Flexible members who understand Star Citizen is a game still several years from release. If stability, bug issues, etc cause the community as a whole to put down Star Citizen for a little bit, don't be surprised. We'd love to have you play another game with us, and write another story while we wait.
  • Self driven members who don't need leadership to tell them what they should be doing every time they log in the game. Fireside is a collection of folks, not the will of the collective leadership. There will be org events and missions, but the day-to-day operations are up to you. Bonus points if you can even start your own events in-game.
  • Mature members who understand in an entirely adult community, a lot of times adult topics will come up.
What we're not looking for:
If you're looking to join Fireside, there's a few things we require to keep our community alive, non-toxic, and as welcoming as it is.
  • If you're a self-identified toxic person, keen to using terminology best left in the grave, including racism, transphobic, or other disruptive slurs meant to demean others, you need not apply.
  • If you have a '2D personality' and can only ever seem to talk about one thing, regardless of what that one thing is (Politics, Star Citizen, the heat death of the universe) and it seems like you always try to bring every conversation back to your favorite topic? Not only are you boring, but we'd prefer it if you didn't apply for Fireside.
  • Org mergers. If you're reading this and thinking "Boy howdy, that guild would sure look good in my guild" stop here. We're not interested. Fireside has built a 100+ member discord server of close friends and family looking to play together, and we're not interested in giving that up to join your zerg.
Rules for joining:
  1. Be Respectful - Fireside lives and dies by it's community. If you can't get along with people you'll be shown the door.
  2. Act maturely - We're all adults.
  3. No general assholery in guild - No racism, transphobia, or sexism is allowed. No remarks about (actually) killing famous people, your fellow guildmates or.. really anyone for that matter.
  4. No general assholery outside of guild - We want to maintain a positive relationship with the gaming community at large, especially the SC community. Don't make us infamous.
  5. No Exploiting - If we win, we want it to be fairly.
  6. No politics in voice / text channels of any Fireside communication method - RL can suck, we're not playing video games to keep being reminded of that fact.
Interested in joining?
Here's some more info : http://www.fireside.place
You can apply on the RSI website here: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/orgs/FIRESIDE
And of course, our discord is : https://discord.gg/JoinFireside
Thanks for reading! Hope to see you in the 'verse!

Pointless Top 10 Mining Caves of Nostalgia

Welcome back for another pointless top 10 post and today we're going to be exploring all of those dark holes you see in the side of mountains in Ultima Online. Some of these mines are loaded up with rich ore, some with treasures and some with scary monsters. But one thing all of these mines have in common are that they are filled with memories. Let's go!

Number 10:
At the number ten entry we have one of the mines that sits in the mountain range connected to Covetous near the city of Cove. I remember back in the day when I picked up my mining axe and traveled around the world to go mining, it was not often that I would find people up here. However, it was always a treat when I would. This little mine is comfortable, cozy and the perfect place to mine with a buddy or stranger.

Number 9:
Our number nine position goes to the cave just north of the Britain graveyard; it's another smaller and cozy little cave system but with a surprise inside. It's loaded with headless monsters! We'll call it the headless cave. Honestly, I don't recall there being a nest of headless monsters roaming around this cave system back in the day, but they're there now and they're upset I'm exploring their home. I remember spending a lot of time running up into these areas, back when I first started in the late 90's. I would be training at the Britain graveyard and once a PK would show up, I'd take off and always seemed to go north, never towards the town for whatever noob reason, and find myself hiding out in this cave. Again, probably not a smart idea, but this cave brings back memories of survival for me. Kind of like it still does with the attack from the headless army.

Number 8:
Our number eight position today is the large cave system you can find on Dagger Island. Honestly, after all of these years of playing, I don't think I've ever been in this cave. I have, however been on Dagger Island lots of times and found myself usually running for my life as I felt like it was loaded with PK's back in the T2A days of UO. I like this cave and it was the only cave I came across during my adventures that had someone mining in it. Napa Valley feels empty in 2023, but Dagger Island is still loaded with homes and even a friendly face!

Number 7:
At number seven we have the random cave that can be found just north of the southern jungles. Nothing too wildly interesting about this cave other than a single Ogre protecting it. This is another cave system I'm not too familiar with since I did most of my mining around Minoc. However, I like that there's an Ogre in it, defending it and just chilling out. So that's why it's at the number 7th spot for me, because I just like the random monster chilling out.

Number 6:
At number six we have another cave system that has all types of living creatures inside of it. Even though I don't think they like that I'm there, it's interesting that they're all getting along. This cave I found on the west side of the Britain mountain range near Skara Brae. What's interesting about it is that there is a moongate on the outside that says it's there incase anyone is blocking the enterance. It makes me wonder if this was a hot spot back in the day; maybe people were standing in the entrance making sure no one else would go inside to take their precious ore. Great times in UO, if true. I loved with guilds or groups of friends would help each other out like this. That type of camaraderie is not as common these days, but back then it was everything in Ultima Online.

Number 5:
Our number five position goes to the cave just to the west of the number six position. I like how there's a random wandering healer hanging out in this one. Like, it's cool to imagine he's there to help the miners that used to venture into this cave system and would often be PK'd. Instead of running several screens away, they could just resurrect right where they were and start all over again. Of course, I'd imagine most of the PK's probably trolled this cave system a lot because of that. It's small and has a healer so that's why it's at our number 5 spot.

Number 4:
Number four is a cave full of treasure! I found this cave system when exploring the jungles the other day when looking for random things for another pointless post I did earlier. And was surprised to find a hide-out deep within. No one was home, but you can see they had lots of stuff left behind. Another cool thing about this cave was the floor tile that you could drag over. I couldn't pick it up, but it reminded me of all of those stories you used to hear of players going around the game and finding random tiles that weren't locked down by the developer. Like people could grab ocean tiles and place it in their bags and basically fish out of their inventory bag. I imagine you'd be able to do the same with a cave floor tile and mine all from the comfort of your home or bank. What a cool find!

Number 3:
The number three position goes to one I have fond memories of. I started in the city of Minoc when I first started Ultima Online in 1999 so everything was absolutely new to me. I eventually found myself way up north from the city of Minoc and came across this little cave. I decided to go mining and eventually a PK came from no where and I started to panic. And in the panic state I started to run in all directions and I found myself at the back of the cave when all of a sudden I was transported to another cave. I felt relieved! However, I was still panicking and continued to run to get away from the PK. This is basically how I discovered that this passage leads you to the Lost Lands in the T2A expansion. So what happened to me after going through? The PK caught up with me and my crappy 56K connection. So I ended up dead in The Lost Lands. But I'll always remember this cave fondly and the mystery it had at the time.

Number 2:
Coming in at the number two spot is a cave that I had discovered by accident similar to the number three spot. Originally this cave did not have a large black hole to let you know a cave was in this location. It was just a normal rock formation with a couple of plants in front of it that would not let you pass through to the other side of the river. So naturally players are left moving the mouse around and typically find themselves slipping through the rock and finding a hidden passage that you can mine in. Travel further through the cave and you find yourself in the Hidden Valley, which typically can hold two houses. The first time discovering this location was pure bliss and was probably one of the times I fell in love with this game, for the eighth time.

Number 1:
And the number one spot goes to one of the most iconic mines in all of Ultima Online, the Mt. Kendall mine just outside of the city of Minoc. This mine used to be absolutely busy back in the day; you would at times see up to 10 different miners in here going at it with their newly created characters. This was the perfect mine because it was the closest one to the city of Minoc when you created your first miner and most likely you were going to create them in the city of Minoc. As soon as you cross the bridge, you're welcomed by the sound of people picking away at the ground beneath them. So many memories here of spending hours mining, talking and running away when PK's would show up. Most of the time I could make it out before dying, however a good PK traveled with others that would block the entrance with some type of wall of stone or paralyze field. Eventually I grew up enough courage that I spend a lot of my time helping the miners out by trying to protect them from PK's.
My first house was a couple of screens away from this mine entrance and so it made it easy for my to rush down there and keep patrol just to bring some ease to the men and women at work. This mine will always have a place in my crafter heart as well as many other UOer's that found themselves adventuring around these areas back in the early days of Ultima Online. Never forget the miners that have lost their lives to craft the protective armor for the people of Britannia!
I hope you all enjoyed this Pointless Top 10 post! It's been a blast going through and re-discovering new things in UO. During my adventures I always find interesting and pointless things to capture so expect to see more of these posts shortly.

2023.03.14 19:18 BidMountain4881 Help Making Money in Rebel Galaxy.

Hi everybody,
I just bought Rebel Galaxy a few days ago since it looked fun but I think I may have made a mistake,
Let me explain. So I'm still in the first system and I'm working to upgrade my ship, particularly shields, hull, and drive systems because I read elsewhere that was a good place to start. But I'm finding it extremely hard to make any significant money. I joined the Merchant's Guild but I'm only getting 2-3 thousand per mission. Admittedly these are the easy missions I found I'm awful at the higher missions and die quickly. But the prices for upgrades are ridiculous. 20-40 thousand and beyond.
I'm barely scraping by with 5,000 minus repairs so usually 3,000 net per mission. I'm finding this a really boring slog and I'm not sure what to do. I tried trading but it was confusing and not that profitable and mining takes forever.
I read that you can answer distress calls and then attack the merchants that you save to get their supplies to sell but mostly I've been getting miners on distress calls. I also can't figure out how to hail ships which might be part of the problem.
I'm just flummoxed the prices for the system seem ridiculous (the next ship is 40,000 I think) and I'm nowhere near making that level of cash so I'm kind of disheartened and wondering if I made a mistake buying the game because I'm not making much progress,
Also as an aside I'm terrible at the combat, I've a disability and only use of my left hand and aiming is difficult. I find when I get swarmed I can't maneuver fast enough to get a shot off. Is there an auto aim feature for broadsides? Or would you have suggestions?
Any help on making money of combat tips is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

2023.03.13 04:34 Demon_Deity Marred Migration - Chapter 8

Memory Transcription Subject: Doctor Dayfrin, Head of the Scientific Guild, Sivkit Grand Herd.
Mounting piles of tissues began collecting across my lab. I've been in this sorry, miserable state for days now and I still can't muster the strength to do more then just sit around, slouched over in some corner, quietly sobbing to myself.
Days had passed since Kafny stormed off into the wilderness and after missing all her communication windows Tyrm finally had to announce that in all likely hood she's dead.
Somber moods resonated throughout the halls and most gathered around to mourn tour leader. Some had mixed feelings about the Chief after the crash but no one lost respect.
I on the other hand barricaded myself in the lab, I wouldn't have to interact with another soul. Something might be wrong with me, it's hard enough to be around people on a good day but with everything that happened, all the things to process... I just can't stand the presence of another Sivkit.
We... we parted on miserable terms. Nothing I said mattered and she wouldn't listen to reason. She even had the gall to threaten me with predator disease accusations.
That fact still makes my blood boil but... none of that matters now. I just wish I could have done things differently. But no matter how I look at it, I don't see any circumstances that would have lead us to any other end. All of this has been years in the making, all starting with that raid.
I believe it's been a decade now. Some nights still force me wide awake with my screams and nightmares constantly recall images of Arxur ships descending on our fleet. Our defenders turned to slag and predatory boarding craft intersecting each ship one by one.
We would have shared their faith had that Gojid fleet not heard our distress call and gave us a chance to escape. But we paid a heavy price and the Baylrn are now less then a tenth of what we used to be.
That day set us on the path we're on today. Kafny lost almost everyone in her life to those predators and only myself and her brother remained. Eventually when the two siblings stepped up to lead, the tribe became her new family.
But that raid never left her and I could see every action was made in fear of those monsters. It must have been faith so that we were just outside Venlil Territory when they their comms went dark. There were even rumors that the Venlil fired upon a Gojid fleet, adding fuel to the paranoia surrounding the situation.
What followed was absolute pandemonium. News broke out that Venlil Prime had fallen, ceased by predators thought long death and so the Chief ordered us to flee to the furthest corner of Federation. After all a pack of hungry Humans were now just outside our doorstep.
Like anyone else at the time I took it all as fact, seeing these creatures just like the Arxur, but my conviction was shaken after the stunt pulled by the Venlil Governor. Sneaking an actual Human into the heart of the Federation and having it speak to the public.
The Human shared it's culture and the Venlil experiments proved that they possessed at least some level of empathy. Despite their horrific nature if these creatures can feel how could not give them a chance? The only case study we had for sapient predators were the Arxur, a sample size of one.
Maybe not all predators are evil?
My view couldn't be any more different then Kafny's on the other hand. For her when the High Chief announced we would ally with the predators, it was an unfathomable betrayal. Her reaction was to launch our lumbering fleet into the unknown and flee the Federation.
It was absolute madness to think something wouldn't go wrong but she wouldn't hear a word of it. In the end everything I said would go wrong, did. I wasn't able to look her in the face after the crash and now, now I'll never see her again...
The door suddenly began to beep, interrupted my train of thought. Dammit, even at a time like this I can't be just left alone?
I took a breath and briefly collected myself before getting up to open the door. The head of security walked in with a mining crew carrying some strange relic, it looked like it was straight out of a Kolshian museum.
I never had an interest in history but you don't have to be an expert to recognize propeller blade, but I would have known if we had an aeroplane exhibit on the ship.
"Where in the stars did you get that thing? And why did you bring it here"
Old Tyrm had an odd look on his face. For a moment I thought it was because of the Chief but his eyes never left that fossil. Come to think of it all the workers were silent too.
"I was hoping you could help us with that?" The old veteran finally broke the silence.
"Me? What do you mean?"
"Viegl was sick of having to gut his ship for spare parts so he requested to locate some iron deposits in the local area. These boys here found this thing buried deep beneath some strange rock deposits so... it's definitely not from out ship."
"It was in solid ground? But... That would mean it could be thousands of years old, there is no way that's right?"
"Your team are the only ones that can make sense of it doc. I... There is something strange about this place doc, it feels... wrong. Like we're being watched all the time."
"I... argh, just put that fossil on the table. I'll try to crack some archaeological algorithms from the Farsul archives but it might take a while. You would think they were hiding military secrets in those files with how hard they are to open."
Tyrm had an odd look on his face, the veteran concern plastered all over. After a moment of silence those concerns were voiced aloud.
"There is clearly someone else on this planet, that thing proves it. Why haven't we seen or come in contact yet? And all those strange black figures stalking out every move? This all feels too sinister."
"I'm not sure about that. This thing is probably older than the Kolshians. If such a developed society was on this planet we wouldn't have missed the signs upon our entry even with our sensors down."
It's obvious that someone used to live here but were did they go? This planet is far more hazardous then the average colony, could the monsters on this planet drove the locals to extinction?
The morbid thought had to wait however, as a soldiers came quickly crashing through my lad, crowding my little corner of the ship further.
The soldier must have ran all the way here as he struggled for every breath. Fear was visible on his face and fur was raised up high. "S-sir, Ma'am. An urgent message from Silsif, it's something only meant for the two of you."
Without warning the soldier ushered out all the miners and locked the door behind him. A strange situation to be sure but meant my surroundings were at least a little calmer with only Tyrm around.
I linked the screen to the bridge and Silsif appeared on the view port almost instantly, she looked horrible, even worst then when we crashed on this miserable rock. "Good, I actually got the both of you..." she spoke with an stern, hushed tone.
"Ma'am, has something happened when I was away?" The veteran perked up with worry.
"We... we finally made contact with General Jallif, arrangements for sending vital supplies are underway as well as bolstering out militaristic capabilities. I already informed the General about the Chief... He, didn't take it well."
Knowing the General survived was a great relief, we can actually start making progress on settling this forsaken land. However I couldn't feel relieved, rgw pain Jallif must be going through right now is unimaginable.
Though one thing Silsif mentioned didn't sit right with me. "Ma'am... why are we putting resources into our military? Surely we won't need it being this far away from the Arxur."
The head clerk looked shaken at the mention of the Greys. It's not an unusual response but she looks like she's seen a ghost. Why now? What could have triggered her?
Silsif looked straight at the view screen, her stern look a poor attempt at hiding whatever horror was on her mind.
"The General... he sent out a recon team to contact a smaller ship. On their way back they encountered sapient aliens and they... they turned out to be predators. Hostility broke out immediately and the entire squad was wiped out."
My weak legs buckled at the news and the world felt like it stopped. Tyrm looked frozen in place, without blinking or moving a single muscle he spoke with a flat tone. "Arxur or Human..."
"Neither... these beasts are black pelted mammals. I hate to say it but we're dealing with a third predator race, one we know nothing about. Fuck, we could be on their cradle for all we know..."
Tyrm already looked exhausted but the news must have zapped several years from his life. All his fears about being watched vindicated in the most awful way. And worst yet all those sightings meant that we have been stalked by aggressive aliens for days without even realizing.
"T-there has to be something we can do."
"Indeed there is Doctor. We got the footage from the attack, it's not much but your team has to analyse the video and find any weaknesses in these predators. Another group will scan for any radio signals to translate their tongue, if they have any. I suspect they would be using weaker signals or far lower frequencies then ours, check the entire spectrum.
Tyrm, the security force has to be expanded as quickly as possible and lookout shifts doubled, we'll sort this matter on the bridge, make your way up here as quickly as possible."
"Y-yes Ma'am." The old veteran turned and stumbled out of the room like he was in a trance, almost bumping into the walls. Someone in such level of shock wasn't safe. I would have stopped him had Silsif not stopped me."
"Doctor, I trust you understand that the information can't be leaked to the public. We godda keep this under wraps for as long as possible to prevent wide spread panic. Only use the staff you know can keep a secret and report back as soon as possible. I'll leave you to it."
The transmission ended and I collapsed into the nearest chair. Of all the worlds we could have landed on, it had to be the one with another carnivores species. I found myself looking at terminal I neglected ever since Kafny went missing.
Scattered signals received from right before we lost contact with the Federation. The information almost unreadable but tiny snippets could be recovered, revealing strange developments. Talks of some great lie being exposed and of Federation species allying themselves with Humanity by the droves.
I didn't know what it all meant but it was a welcome distraction even if for a moment. The strange question returned to my mind, one I would have never conceived several months ago.
Maybe not all predators are evil? It's a foolish thought, especially after such aggressive actions. But wouldn't it be so much easier if it was possible. What could happen if we could just talk...
