2023.03.22 07:21 Tigreal Patch Notes 1.7.68 - Org. Server

From The Designers

For the upcoming March season, aside from the usual hero adjustments, we've also optimized the gameplay of some older heroes such as Layla and Freya. We hope they'll be back with a spring in their step, ready to shine upon the battlefield!
We've also optimized 6 lesser-used equipment (Sea Halberd, Necklace of Durance, Twilight Armor, Rose Gold Meteor, Blood Wings and Thunder Belt) and 2 Battle Spells (Aegis and Revitalize) to hopefully make them more viable options in battle.
Additionally, for the upcoming Season 28, we will be launching a new Mythic system with a new rank, new Display Logos for Mythic ranks, and optimized the Mythic Points system into the Stars system. Reach 25 and 50 stars in Mythic to get upgraded appearances for Mythic stars.
We've also optimized the Placement Match experience and added a new Mythic Rank Exclusive Skin Voting system (avaliable after reaching Mythic rank, vote for 1 out of 6 heroes).
Added "Road to Mythic" challenges at Mythic rank that will grant the S28 Profile Namecard Background and Personal Profile Background. Reach Mythical Glory rank to upgrade them. Good luck in the new season!

I. New & Revamped Heroes

[Revamped Hero: Courageous Warrior - Minsitthar]
[Spear of Glory] and [King's Calling] are Minsitthar's core skills, so we've kept their gameplay the same (with some optimizations) in this revamp.
In addition, we've redesigned his Skill 2 and Passive to provide more damage and control to his kit. This redesign focuses on maintaining his roaming role while exploring the possibility of taking the Exp Lane.
We've also given Minsitthar a complete makeover. With this revamp, the courageous warrior shall reclaim his rightful glory!
Hero Features: A courageous warrior who excels in battle with spear and shield.
[Passive: Mark of the King]
Minsitthar's Basic Attacks and skills apply a stack of Mark of the King. Upon reaching 5 stacks, the next attack will detonate all Marks to deal a large amount of damage and stun the target, and restore HP to Minsitthar.
[Skill 1: Spear of Glory]
When pulling back his spear, Minsitthar will pull all enemy heroes in its path to him.
[Skill 2: Shield Assault]
Minsitthar holds up his shield, reducing incoming damage from the front for a period of time.
While in this stance, Minsitthar's Basic Attacks will hit all enemies in a rectangular area and have increased Attack Speed.
[Ultimate: King's Calling]
Minsitthar's Ultimate now prevents all enemies in its area from using all movement abilities.
Summoned Royal Guards can also trigger Minsitthar's equipment effects with their attacks.
Slightly increased the cast range.
Reduced the effect's duration.

II. Hero Adjustments

The following heroes have undergone significant adjustments in this patch: Joy, Freya, Layla, Wanwan, Badang, Esmeralda and Eudora.
The following uses (↑) (↓) (~) to indicate Buff, Nerf, and Adjustment.
[Joy] (~)
Joy has impressive durability, but her burst potential is a bit lacking in the mid-to-late game. As such, we're making it harder for her to gain durability while increasing her damage to fit her role as an Assassin.
[Passive] (~)
Removed the shield effect.
New Effect: Joy's skills now deal an additional instance of damage each time they hit a non-Minion unit.
[Skill 2] (~)
Max Uses: 5 >> 4
New Effect: Gain a shield when hitting on beat.
[Ultimate] (~)
Number of Skill 2 casts required to unlock: 5 >> 4
New Effect: Gain Physical & Magic Defense during Ultimate.
Damage increase after hitting on beat: 30% >> 40% (max damage when hitting all beats is the same)
[Freya] (↑)
While Freya has great sustainability, she plays more or less the same as other heroes that rely on Basic Attacks. So, we're making it easier for her to chain her skill combos, and in some circumstances, indefinitely. We're also improving the feel of Spirit Combo and Leap of Faith, and that of Freya's combos as a whole. Her shield and damage in the early-mid game have been adjusted to keep things balanced.
[Skill 1] (~)
Skill 1 is no longer enhanced by Sacred Orb nor does it cost any Sacred Orbs.
Can move through obstacles more easily.
[Skill 2] (↑)
Skill casts needed to trigger leaping strike: 3 >> 2
Reworked how the cooldown works: Cooldown is no longer triggered after the leaping strike, instead it triggers after not continuing to cast the skill within a certain period.
Slightly reduced the foreswing time of the leaping strike.
Airborne Duration: 0.5s >> 0.4s
Base Damage: 130-230 (+90% Total Physical Attack) >> 20-230 (+90% Total Physical Attack)
Final Damage: 156-276 (+108% Total Physical Attack) >> 26-276 (+108% Total Physical Attack)
Shield: 160-260 (+70% Extra Physical Attack) >> 60-260 (+70% Extra Physical Attack)
[Layla] (↑)
As a Marksman without Blink, Layla has trouble with survivability. We hope the following changes will allow her to kite enemies more efficiently and increase her skill cap. We've reduced a bit of her damage to balance these buffs.
[Basic Attack & Skills] (↑)
Greatly reduced backswing time to allow her to move and attack more efficiently.
[Attribute] (↓)
Physical Attack Growth: 9 >> 7.5
[Passive] (↓)
Maximum Damage Increase: 135% >> 130%
[Skil 2] (↑)
Changed the slow effect from mark detonations to a 0.25s AOE stun.
Only marks the first target hit.
[Wanwan] (~)
With fewer Weaknesses to hit, more players have been enjoying Wanwan, but it also made it harder for her opponents to counter her Ultimate. Therefore, we want to make it easier to escape her Ultimate while not affecting her power. After the changes, the locked target can more easily get out of lock range, and frontline heroes can move to block Wanwan's crossbow attacks to tank the damage. To compensate, we buffed Wanwan's damage, and how much she gains from Movement Speed bonuses in the early and mid game (Wanwan should get extra Movement Speed to take advantage of this).
[Passive] (↑)
All Weaknesses Hit Damage: 55-97 >> 70-112
[Ultimate] (↓)
Lock Range: 8.5 >> 6
Speed Boost while in the air: 10% Total Movement Speed >> 100% Extra Movement Speed
[Badang] (↓)
Badang has become too dominant in this version with the buff to Knockback effects. We've moderately reduced his damage in the early and mid game for balance.
[Skill 1] (↓)
Base Damage: 160-260 >> 125-225
Explosion Damage: 120-195 >> 100-175
[Ultimate] (↓)
Base Damage: 80-140 >> 60-120
Explosion Damage: 40-70 >> 30-60
[Esmeralda] (↑)
We've slightly increased Esmeralda's damage to make her more competitive compared to other Exp Laners.
[Basic Attack] (↑)
First Damage: 80% Physical Attack >> 100% Physical Attack
Second Damage: 100 +55% Magic Power >> 100 +75% Magic Power
[Skill 2] (↑)
Cooldown: 5.5-3.5s >> 4.5-3.5s
[Eudora] (↑)
We want players to be able to use Eudora's skills based on the situation, instead of always starting with Skill 2.
[Attributes] (↑)
HP Growth: 142.5 >> 160.5
[Skill 2] (↑)
Orb of Lightning bounce's Stun Duration: 0.6s >> 0.9s
[Lesley] (↑)
We've slightly buffed Lesley's damage because the meta has been favouring Attack Speed Marksmen.
Passive (↑)
Base Damage:50 >> 75
[Skill 1] (↑)
Cooldown: 5-3s >> 4-2.5s
[Paquito] (↑)
We've slightly buffed Paquito's durability in the mid and late game to fit his role as a fighter.
[Skill 1] (↑)
Shield: 150-500 +110% Physical Attack >> 150-650 +135% Physical Attack
[Fredrinn] (↓)
Slightly reduced the damage of Fredrinn's Ultimate when not enhanced.
[Skill 2] (↓)
Base Damage: 200-300 >> 140-215
[Skill 3] (↓)
Base Damage: 300-500 >> 210-330

III. Battlefield Adjustments

[New Map]

The brand-new map "Harmonia" is available free for a limited-time! Featuring a new design, with new models, effects, and more. And the "Harmonia" Lord is stepping into the fray, too. Check it out!
[Lord] (↑)
The Enhanced Lord can now use Turret Clash against all turrets it encounters after the 12-minute mark, instead of only the first one.

[Equipment]

[Sea Halberd] (↑)
We don't want Physical Damage heroes to lose much damage output when using this equipment.
[Unique Passive - Punish] (New)
Increase damage by 8% against enemy heroes with more extra HP than you.
[Necklace of Durance] (↑)
Optimized the build path to better fit some mages and supports.
[Build Path]
Mystic Container >> Elegant Gem (Necklace of Durance attributes modified accordingly)
[New Passive] (↑)
Gift (the effect is the same as Elegant Gem)
[Twilight Armor] (Revamped)
We've noticed that most tanks focus on absorbing damage instead of dealing damage, so we've changed this equipment to help against burst damage and also made it more versatile.
[Unique Passive - Twilight] (Revamped)
When taking more than 600 damage in a single hit, the excess amount will be reduced by 300 +5% of Max HP. Cooldown: 5s.
[Rose Gold Meteor] (↑)
Rose Gold Meteor has been overshadowed by Athena's Shield, so we've changed its function to help heroes escape when the passive triggers.
[Attributes] (↑)
Physical Lifesteal: 5% >> 10%
[Build Path] (~)
Magic Blade + Dagger >> Magic Blade + Vampire Mallet
[Unique Passive - Lifeline] (↑)
Shield: 510-1350 >> 840-1820
Removed Effect: Increase Magic Defense by 25 for 3s when triggered.
New Effect: Increase Movement Speed by 50% when triggered, the effect decays over 3 seconds.
Cooldown: 40s >> 60s
[Magic Blade] (↑)
[Unique Passive - Lifeline] (↑)
Shield: 280-700 >> 420-910
Removed Effect: Increase Magic Defense by 12 for 3s when triggered.
New Effect: Increase Movement Speed by 50% when triggered, the effect decays over 3 seconds.
Cooldown: 40s >> 60s
[Blood Wings] (↑)
Optimized Effect: Now when the shield is attacked, it will be restored after 30s even if it's not destroyed.
Cooldown: 30s >> 20s
New Effect: Increase Movement Speed by 30 when shield is active.
[Thunder Belt] (↑)
Thunder Belt is too costly for roaming tanks, so we're reducing its price and boosting its Mana Regen.
[Cost] (↑)
2290 >> 1990
[Attributes] (↑)
Mana Regen: 6 >> 10
[Clock of Destiny] (↓)
Reduced the survivability it granted to burst damage mages.
[Attributes] (↓)
HP: 625 >> 500
[Unique Passive - Time] (↓)
Each stack grants 20 HP (was 25).
[Ice Queen Wand] (↑)
Increased the survivability it granted to sustained damage mages.
[Attributes] (↑)
New: 300 HP
Removed: 150 Mana
[Fleeting Time] (↑)
Optimized Effect: Certain heroes with Ultimates that enter cooldown after their duration is over now also gain cooldown reduction from kills and assists during their Ultimate's duration.
Includes: Faramis, Yve, Luo Yi, Leomord, Baxia, Hanzo, Granger, Edith, Aldous.
[Dominance Ice] (↑)
We want this piece of equipment to be more effective against heroes with high attack speed.
[Unique Passive - Arctic Cold] (↑)
The attack speed reduction is now calculated after all attack speed bonuses.
Lowers nearby enemy heroes' Attack Speed to: 75% >> 70%
[Black Ice Shield] (↑)
[Unique Passive - Arctic Cold] (↑)
The attack speed reduction is now calculated after all attack speed bonuses.
Lowers nearby enemy heroes' Attack Speed to: 90% >> 85%

[Battle Spells]

We've adjusted [Aegis] and [Revitalize] to more clearly differentiate them from [Vengeance]. Heroes of different roles should now have more viable choices for defensive Battle Spells.
[Aegis] (↑)
Aegis works well enough to protect heroes with low HP in the early game, but the shield is too flimsy in the mid and late game compared to how much hero damage ramps up.
Shield: 750 + 50Hero Level >> 750 + 90Hero Level
Removed the effect of granting shield to nearby allied hero.
Cooldown: 90s >> 75s
[Revitalize] (~)
The effect will now move with its caster, making it more suitable for Supports.

[Role Adjustments]

As the meta evolves, certain heroes have gone through a lot of changes compared to their original playstyle and abilities. Therefore, we decided to update their roles to better fit their playstyle.
  • Grock: Tank >> Tank/Fighter
  • Johnson: Tank >> Tank/Support
  • Carmilla: Support >> Support/Tank
  • Kaja: FighteSupport >> Support/Fighter
  • Ruby: FighteTank >> Fighter
  • Fredrinn: Tank/Fighter >> FighteTank
  • Paquito: Fighter >> FighteAssassin
  • Yin: Fighter >> FighteAssassin
  • Benedetta: Assassin >> Assassin/Fighter
  • Harley: Mage/Assassin >> Assassin/Mage >

[Lane Position Adjustments]

  • Silvanna: Exp Lane/Jungling >> Exp Lane/Roaming
  • Cyclops: Mid Lane >> Mid Lane/Jungling
Removed Jungling classification from the following heroes: Lapu-Lapu, Argus, Selena, Masha, Popol and Kupa.

2023.03.22 07:11 cdan94 CRED screwed me massively - incurring daily late fees, how can I hold them accountable?

So, I paid for my HDFC credit card, outstanding amount on 1st March. CRED confirmed that the payment is made so I relaxed. Until yesterday, when HDFC called me to say my dues are still pending. Raised numerous complaints on HDFC and CRED but no one is caring to follow-up. I am being charged late fee and interest, I cannot afford to pay the due amount again (it was quite a lot).
I check the transactions on my credit card, and there is no credited amount for me to prove that CRED deposited the amount with HDFC. The amount was promptly deducted from my account and I have UPI reference number saying it was sent to CRED successfully.
CRED provides me with a UTR number however cannot themselves prove they paid HDFC. I'm incurring late fees running between the two but none of these institutions can verify the payment.
CRED has no customer support for a big tech organisation, I cannot call anyone. I just raise tickets and they close the tickets automatically. Who do I complain to for help? Am I doomed to be screwed by 'fintech'?

2023.03.22 06:05 ProGoogler4answers It seems kinda boomer-ish to associate the idea of having a job with nuance of 'success' or 'independence'

Ive been outta work for a while, and got made fun of by a girl as she said no girl wants a jobless guy. And that girls have their own jobs now so why should they talk to me?
Which is kind of odd ( as myself having an MS finance, for whatever weight that may carry), because the accounting and math of employment in the US...is far from reflective of efforts, merit, and most of all; is FAR more likely than not, to compensate with wages that are far, far, far below the idea of 'success', or even offer financial independence, let alone appreciable personal savings and goals. Even without that thought, I wouldn't see myself as anything to brag about if I didn't give someone a chance based on their legal employment basis or earnings. And if I did, Id only be fooling myself, because I'd be caught in so many fallacies.
Real world Example: At $12/hour, working full time, as a single person with no dependents, opting for pre-tax deductions of insurances, and then using the adjusted value accordingly to continue on with Federal/State/Local (in my case I dont even have local taxes).
One would net $687/Bi-weekly. That is $1,374/Month. You'd have a hard time finding a place to rent alone, for less than $1000. And that doesnt include utilities.
Okay, so you've managed to somehow pay the deposit , the activation costs of utilities, and I wont even include the costs of moving/furnishing/homecookware etc. You've popped the $1,000, and now have that $374 to spend on showing the world that you ARE succesful and independent! You work full time and work hard! Aha, wait. Even low-balling national median prices for a fraction of your other costs, will exceed this $374 quickly. Cell? $50. Domestic Supplies?( Laundry detergent, hygience/cleaning items) $50. Internet? $50/month...(these are comically low-ball prices btw) Electricity?$80 Food? Ah, well you only have $144 left...From a survival perspective, possible, but you wont feel very good or feel much like yourself. But, what about your car? its insurance? Easily $150-$400/Month. You're already tapped out, exhausted, surviving off rice and beans. But what about your water bill? What about $ to have even a dollar put into a savings account? What about student loans, credit cards, those teeth, your medical co-pays, your Rx costs? Hell, you don't even have $10 if you get a flat tire. You don't even have a few hundred for that rotten tooth in your mouth, to get a root canal and crown.
//////////////
Ok, $12/hour Fulltime scenario is nothing short of a total delusion of financial independence. But, that just means I'm not good enough or smart enough to earn enough! *POOF* WOW! suddenly I am! I make $20/hour. Relative to the rest of the country's wages, this is a rarer wage, and higher than most people's wages in the US.
$20/Hour @ 40-Houweek
$3,200/MONTHLY GROSS WAGES
$38,400/ANNUAL GROSS WAGES
--------------------
Pre-Tax deductions of Health($90/BiWeekly)/Dental($7.5/BiWeekly)/Vision($2.5/BiWeekly)
MONTHLY TOTAL INSURANCES DEDUCTIONS: $200
ANNUAL TOTAL INSURANCES DEDUCTIONS: $2,400
--------------------
MONTHLY TAXABLE WAGES: $3,000
ANNUAL TAXABLE WAGES: $36,000
--------
STATE TAXES: $1,190
FICA: $2,754
FEDERAL: $4,114.38
TOTAL TAXES DUE: $8,058.38
--------
TOTAL WAGES NET ANNUAL: $27,941.62
TOTAL WAGES NET MONTHLY: $2,328.47
TOTAL WAGES NET BI-WEEKLY: $1,164.23

A whopping $2,328.47 for the young stud who earns MORE THAN OVER 2/3 of the nation in wages. Ladies and gentleman give this special little boy a balloon!!
While median rent is reported to be $1,770/Month...Lets have some faith in this earner. But REMEMBER! He is earning a higher wage, its rare for areas with very low rents to commonly feature such jobs. So, lets see to it he still gets a 'good deal' at renting a musty apartment for $1,300/Month. Well, like before, bills come-a-knocking. Utilities of electricity, internet, water rack up to a modest $200. Hes got some basic prepaid service plan for $50, nothing fancy, hes a savy guy. Hes gonna need more than rice and beans to keep up that life of high pay, but still manages to get groceries down to $100/Week. $400/Month. Now, mind you that includes sales tax, so its less than what may come to mind! This guy is not getting a room that cheap in an area where he wouldn't also need a car, lets use some reason here. But hes savy as they come baby. He blew his savings for that $8,000 2003 Corolla. Insurance is pecking at him for $120/month, could be worse. Now, we've reached a point where he now has less than $300 across the month to fulfill: Medical Co-Pays, Auto Maintenance, Gasoline, Any form of eating out/entertainment, All clothing, Furniture, A phone, A computer, Student loans, credit cards, emergency health services, haircuts, and everything else that life demands of us even without a kid.
It would be nothing short of remarkable for this individual who is financially independent to save $10/month. Working 40 hours/week is exhausting too, doesnt leave much time for taking care of things yourself, which can be costly too.

So, $20/hour, at relatively low costs of living, isn't anything sustainable long term. Sure are alot of people on Reddit who claim "I make this and Im independent and Im fine!" Im sure their story of pulling up their bootstraps by themselves and maintaining any dignity of life are more so part of a narrative they hold; rather than real-world finance.
Call it all bullshit if you want. I go by the numbers. Job or no job, you're not in a fairy tale. You're in a loose labor market, where fiduciary duty to shareholders/company agents are law. Not owed to you, but to the investors/company agents. I haven't even touched on the fucked up realm of costs and income when having a kid is involved, a health condition, care taking, or any other situation which can wreck everything. SaaS has been offsetting jobs for a decade, AI is too, and there is not homogeneous opportunity across the US.
Its incredible to me, how unaware so many people are. They can't be bothered to comprehend that the majority of problems for people in the U.S. stem from inequity and lack of money. The mental health implications of having to accommodate the need for money to survive and stay out of prison, and the mental health implications from people who internalize these things as if it was their fault. As if they were born as the problem. As if their emotions and life were wrong and despicable. So much of posts here can be attributed to a lack of resources and the implications of it. Resources are sent to the dumpster en masse, not because they are truly unusable, but solely so that we cannot have it, without handing over enough money. Buried in the earth, just to make damn sure, those people dont get em.
So, before you even *suggest* that someone isn't trying, isn't worthy, doesn't care, because of not having a job, not having their own place, not having their own car, not getting the healthcare they need, not being able to afford participation in things, or even afford being a parent... Remember. You're more than likely, calculably wrong. And promoting the internalization of capitalism and the moral construct of poverty. You would fit right in, with the category of scum in society, what keeps it so horrible, and what holds humanity back.

Greninja Gold Star - I think it's a great buy. Thoughts?
I think the ~$2 price of entry for a GOLD STAR of one of the most popular starters is absurd. Kinda wanna put my money where my mouth is and buy a ton of them. They're basically penny stocks, if they're only at $10 NM in 10 years I'm still 5x. Not the mention grading the better looking copies I'd come across.
Thoughts? On mobile so don't want to do a bunch of cross checking but just look at raw prices of other "great promos". Shining ho-oh was $1 for a few years look at it now. Take shining celebi/Luigi and it's even crazier prices. I think promos tend to do well and if hypothetically someone bought 10k copies of this card they'd make a fortune by 35th anniversary

2023.03.22 04:58 ashabash88 Trip Report - 3/8 to 3/19 - Osaka, Tokyo, Nagano with 8 people and some people with mobility issues

I lurked a bunch in this group before my trip so am hoping that a trip report will help others. We had a larger group and a couple people in the group are mobility challenged so some of my tidbits are unique to those aspects.
Some general notes:
-I got a pocket wifi from Ninja Wifi and it was great. I picked it up from Kansai and dropped off at Narita and it was so easy. I rushed through customs and had it before the others were all through. Others in the group were using their travel plans (T mobile and Verizon) and by the end of the trip most were just connecting to my wifi because it was much faster. It wasn't completely perfect and had a couple glitches here and there, but nothing that restarting the unit didn't fix. I did bring my own power bank and 100% needed it.
-We flew into Kansai and landed around 7pm. The entry at Kansai was a breeze. Everyone had done the Visit Japan ahead of time. We took screenshots but there is airport wifi in the customs area so we could have used that as well. We were through and had our bags within 30 minutes.
-It did take us a couple of days to get the hang of the various train lines, reading google maps, etc. A lot of the train station are huge as well so we learned to allow ALOT more time than google suggested for walking, especially since our group moved on the slower side. I tried to prep everyone to add Suica/Pasmo on their phones but myself and my mom were the only ones who actually did. Two people had physical IC cards from a previous trip but the other 4 kept putting it off and ended up not ever getting an IC card. It was a huge pain to stop and get tickets every time and they regretted it by the end of the trip.
-I had saved everything using Google's MyMap before we left but I ended up not using it very much. I chose it so I could color code locations but it didn't integrate very well into the app. I had to click on the saved maps every time I wanted to see what was around us, and you also can't add anything on the app. This could be user error as this was my first time using the MyMaps instead of a list but I'll probably go back to just creating a list within the app next time.
-We brought little goodies with us to hand out in lieu of tips and everyone loved them. Little things like mac nuts (we are from Hawaii) were received with much exclamation and appreciation.
-We were celebrating 3 different birthdays while we were there so we did reserve those dinners, since we had a larger party. We mostly split up for the rest of the meals. I can't speak to how easily we would have gotten in without reservations as we didn't try.
-Like everyone else, I HIGHLY recommend the luggage transfer services. It was so nice to take the train from city to city with just a backpack. We stayed in hotels in each place and the front desk handled it for us each time. I had a larger suitcase and it was about 2000 yen for each of the transfers (Osaka to Tokyo and Tokyo to Nagano). The only time we took our luggage was on the last train ride back to the airport and that's only because we forgot to ask how far in advance we would need to drop off and I was nervous about getting it in time for the flight. It probably would have been fine though. I also left my computer charger in Osaka and the hotel shipped it to me overnight. You usually pay when you drop off your bags but they let me pay that one upon pickup.
-Day 0 - Arrived in Osaka. We stayed at the Swissotel Nankai Osaka and it is located on top of Namba station. This hotel was recommended to us by a flight attendant who travels to Japan frequently and it was great for convenience being right at the train and metro station. It was a 10 minute walk to the Dotonbori area, which was about the maximum that my aunt could walk with her walker.
- Day 1 - day trip to Nara. I signed us up for a free tour with the YMCA EGG Club and it was fantastic. We did get a wheelchair from the Kintetsu station info office. They have exactly one available and it's first come, first serve but our guide said she has never seen anyone use it before. It was perfect for us as there was a lot of walking that day. A few things were not accessible but we could leave the wheelchair outside and my aunt could use her cane.
We split up after the tour to get lunch. Me and an auntie ended up at Maguro Koya for oo toro and it was the perfect first lunch in Japan. A true mom and pop but they did have an English menu and spoke great English. It was only a few blocks from the Kintetsu station as well. Auntie and I had a few cups of sake as well and after a lingering and delicious lunch we went back to the train station and back to Osaka.
After a nap, we took a couple of cabs to the Dotonbori area since we were running late for dinner. In hindsight, it was silly for all of us to cab since the able bodied could have walked in the same amount of time. We didn't know our way around yet, though, so we all just cabbed. Dinner was at the Kanidoraku crab restaurant on the Dotonbori. It was just OK, probably wouldn't go back as there are so many fantastic places in Osaka. After dinner we went to Donki for a little chaos. Uncle nearly had a panic attack at the crowds and needed to wait outside.
-Day 2 - day trip to Kyoto - Only half of us did this as the other half had been before. We wanted to see as much as possible in the day so we reserved a guided taxi tour with Doi Taxi. It was 40,000 yen for our group of 4 and up to 7 hours but there was no way we were going to get to see much if we had to walk and take busses. I had asked him to take us to one temple and requested few stairs and little walking. He started by driving us to Gion and we did get out and walk around a bit. I had requested lunch at Yudofu Sagano in Arashiyama and if you like tofu you must go there! We walked around the Tenryu-Ji temple and gardens after lunch, which was beautiful. The Arashiyama area was packed with people. I thought Gion would be the crowded area but it had nothing on Arashiyama. After the temple we headed back to the train station to go back to Osaka. We probably didn't get quite the bang for our buck that we could have but we were getting very tired.
-Day 3 - free day. We all did our own thing. Some went to Osaka Castle, some did the Aquarium, and some just wandered.
Day 4 - Osaka to Tokyo. The teenagers were not impressed that we woke them up to get to the train station early to get bentos. They would have preferred to sleep and grab Family Mart but the rest of us wanted to browse and pick out the perfect ekiben. The selection was not as large as I was expecting at Shin-Osaka but we did still get some goodies. The teenagers were not impressed by the Nozomi and slept but the rest of us enjoyed our bentos and scenery. We got some beers and highballs from the snack cart and noted that they only took cash or IC cards, not credit cards.
Our hotel in Tokyo was the Shibuya Excel Hotel Tokyu. It wasn't quite as nice as the Swissotel but had a prime location right on the Scramble and the rooms were decently sized for Japan. My uncle almost had a panic attack when we got out of the Shibuya Station and he saw all of the people but he got used to it. We booked this hotel pretty far in advance and got a great deal. When I checked closer to the trip (just for giggles) it was a lot more expensive.
Day 5 - Tsukiji Market in the morning for breakfast/lunch/shopping then TeamLab Planets. Nothing new to report about those activities but this day is when we started to have issues finding escalators and elevators in the train station. Several stations in Tokyo were under construction and there were a couple of times we couldn't find any accessible options. Luckily, our mobility challenged people aren't totally immobile and could take the stairs but it was very tiring for them. I did appreciate that most of the subways and trains (and busses) have screens that show the stops and the location of escalators and elevators but they weren't always accurate if there was construction.
I really wanted to go to the Shibuya Yokocho for dinner and everyone in the group liked that idea, even the teens. I didn't think there was any chance we would all be able to eat together but we went early just in case. To my surprise we did find one place that could seat exactly 8 (if we crammed, which we did) and it was wonderful. I have no idea what it is called since most of the signs outside are in Japanese but the ownechef/bartender is named Hiro. We had some of my favorite bites of the whole trip there including a uni miso omelet and blue cheese baked mochi. The "menu" was just slips of paper on the wall, all in Japanese, but it was fun to try and use Google Translate and pick random things based on the translation. The mochi, for example, translated as "blue rice". A few of the adults bar hopped after dinner and we had a great time at each place, but Hiro's was my favorite.
Day 6 + 7 - Random Tokyo wandering and nothing interesting or crazy to report. Uncle went to Golden Gai by himself and reported that he liked the Shibuya Yokocho better. He thought Golden Gai seemed like a larger, more touristy version.
We did go to Tokyo Skytree one of these days and for the love, make a reservation if you want to go there. They do let you buy tickets same day but the line was horrendous and we were regretting our lack of planning as we watched the people with reservations walk right up.
Day 8 - Tokyo to Nagano - Our group split at this point. Half started in Shibu Onsen for some relaxation and half went to Lotte Arai resort for some skiing. I was part of the Shibu group so I'll report mainly on that. We chose Shibu because it was close to the snow monkey park and for the onsen experience. Shibu has 9 "public" onsen that only locals and people staying in a ryokan in Shibu get a key for. Getting there was very easy. The shinkansen from Tokyo to Nagano took 1.5 hours and then the Dentetsu line to Yudanaka was about an hour. Our hotel picked us up at the train station.
Shibu was one of the highlights of the trip and it was especially relaxing after Tokyo. We stayed at the Shibu Hotel, which is a ryokan and family run for over 100 years. It was a bit of a splurge but we chose to include the kaiseki dinner and breakfast. The service was incredible. There are two brothers that are basically shuttling people around all day, to and from the train station and to and from the snow monkey park, and running the hotel. One of the wives and the mother run the front desk. The ryokan also has several public and private onsen for guests. It seemed like a lot of the ryokan in town were similar but as I've only stayed at Shibu Hotel I can only speak for them. Also important to note, they have a few rooms with Western style beds and an elevator, which is the main reason we stayed there. Most of the ryokan only offer Japanese style rooms, which I would have been fine with by myself but did not work for the group.
Shibu was very accessible, which I was not expecting. The town is tiny and the whole thing can be walked easily. Some of the little alleys weren't walker friendly but the main streets were tiled (I think), very smooth and wide enough for the walker. Not all of the onsen were accessible but most had a little step/s or railing so we could all participate. It was some family bonding for sure LOL
Day 9 - Snow Monkeys! We took the hotel shuttle to the park entrance and they even had snow boots for us, as the trail gets icy or muddy depending on the season. It was cold but not icy for us but we still appreciated the boots as it was a bit muddy in spots. It took us about 20 minutes to walk each way but I can see it taking much longer if there's snow or ice. There were so many monkeys and they were very unconcerned with people. No shit throwing or bag stealing was seen, unlike my previous monkey experience in Thailand. You could do this as a day trip from Nagano or even Tokyo very easily. This was not accessible as there are stairs at the beginning and end of the trip and auntie didn't want to try and walk a mile so she stayed at the hotel and enjoyed coffee in the lobby and browsing some of their homemade goodies (green onion miso, yum!).
We then took the local train back to Nagano and checked in to the Metropolitan Hotel, again right at the train station (have you sensed our preference yet). Lunch was at Misoya for my favorite ramen of the trip. I love me some miso. We saw the main temple in Nagano and visited the sake brewery close by.
Day 10 - Last full day and it was raining and cold. We didn't do a whole lot this day because of the rain but did some last minute shopping. At the Tokyu department store we found the best basement grocery with a bunch of food stalls so we grabbed a bunch of different foods and a bottle of local sake for lunch in the room.
Day 11 - Lunch at Misoya again before catching the Shinkansen back to Tokyo Station and then the Narita Express to the airport. We were pretty disappointed in the food and shopping options at Terminal 2, unfortunately. We left Nagano after lunch at 1:30 so had allowed extra time at the airport for dinner and some duty free shopping but nothing was open by the time we got through security at 6pm. We should have had dinner outside of security but we didn't realize nothing would be open. There was one little conbini that has some tuna musubi and egg salad sandwiches so that was dinner. We were more sad that the duty free was closed as we had been planning on buying some of our whisky and sake allotment there. We didn't come home empty handed but just less than we had planned.
Whew, that took awhile to write. I hope someone, somewhere finds any part of this helpful!

2023.03.22 04:21 gp786 Has anyone ever gotten a refund from Visible?

I tried to port my number from Boost Infinite to Visible about a week or so ago. Visible said the number I was trying to port is inactive. This was right after they took my money. I tried to chat with support and they were clueless. They kept saying it will work in two hours. After getting the run around several times I demanded that they do something. They “escalated” the issue which basically meant they sent me an email once a day to tell me they discovered the issue and are working on it.
After getting severely annoyed I decided enough is enough and signed up with US Mobile. They were able to port my number over from Boost Infinite almost instantly.
The problem lies with Visible. I still paid them $35 for service I didn’t receive. I filed an FCC complaint and haven’t heard anything back yet. Any time I contact support they have to “check with their support team” and then the chat gets terminated by the agent a few minutes later.
WTF is up with this company? Has anyone ever successfully gotten a refund or do I need to do a chargeback on my credit card?

2023.03.22 04:19 zoeygirl69 T-Mobile Dining Rewards (check your T-Mobile Tuesday)

T-Mobile is doing a program where you link a card to their app but you don't have to use click through links so this will work.
The following is in addition to cash back that you get on your credit card.
• 5% cash back applied to your T-Mobile at bill specific restaurants.
• 10% cash back applied towards your T-Mobile bill when used on Tuesday at specific restaurants.
So that means a max 14% to 15% total cash back depending on the card used on Tuesday and 9% to 10% on non-Tuesdays.
Tried it today at a Chicken Kitchen. It looks like it's slow to post to the T-Mobile Dining app when you make a transaction.
So what I should be getting is 4% cash back from US Bank Altitude Go + 10% T-Mobile Dining towards the T-Mobile bill.
Here's the terms and conditions:
• You have to download the T-Mobile Dining app.
• You have to link a credit card within the T-Mobile Dining app.
• You can link multiple credit cards.
• It has to be a card that T-Mobile can see the purchase on so Discover card doesn't work with this.
• Cards accepted are American Express (including third party issue), MasterCard and Visa.
• Debit card transactions must be done as Visa or MasterCard and not PIN entry
It only asks the card number and not the expiration date or 3 digit / 4 digit code.
• Special promotion: spend $25 get $10 credit towards your T-Mobile bill plus the 5% / 10%. Must be done within 30 days.
Taxes not included for cash back
Tips and gratuity not included for cash back
It works similar to a merchant offer but you don't have to click each individual restaurant you want to go to.
If you have Sam's Club and you've seen the Bonus Offer section and you've used the bonus offers, it works similar to that.
Next I'm going to test this with my Oxygen Prepaid Visa processed as Visa for $1.00 immediate cash back + 5% to 10% cash back towards the T-Mobile bill.
A couple of screenshots in comments.
The other T-Mobile promotion for the T-Mobile Dining Is garbage and I don't recommend it.
• Get a prepaid T-Mobile Money and get 1% extra on dining. The card has no other discounts.
T-Mobile prepaid Money MasterCard is definitely garbage and not worth it for just 1%

2023.03.22 01:16 gg50fr Why isn't the PayPal Cashback Mastercard mentioned more often in top credit card lists? A comparison vs other 2% cards.

Just wanted to make a post about a card I feel is overlooked with great potential.
The PayPal Cashback Mastercard is a no-fee Mastercard that earns 2% on all purchases, and 3% on purchases made through PayPal.
I have this card and it is an excellent card for earning 2-3% on purchases that don't generally fall under bonus categories if your intention is cashback redemption; a great "catch-all" card.

This is not considering balance transfeinterest/APR rates as carrying a credit card balance is never recommended. Always pay off your credit cards in full and on-time. This comparison also assumes the full statement balance is paid every month, on-time and doesn't take into account the difficulty/likelihood of card approval (though this varies by card/issuing bank).
Pros:
Unlimited 2% cashback on everything
Unlimited 3% cashback when using PayPal
Cashback redeemable at any time, no matter the amount
Cashback available in roughly 1 day
Cashback can be manually transferred to PayPal balance immediately. Then, in 1-3 days, the PayPal balance can be transferred to your bank account electronically for free.

Cons:
No bonus offer (there was a $200 bonus for spending $1000 in 3 months as a limited-time offer)
3% foreign transaction fee
MasterCard is not accepted at Costco

Potential cons/non-factors:
Issued by Synchrony Bank (not a fan of them, although in reality maybe it really doesn't matter)
Must have free PayPal account. In reality, maintaining a PayPal account has been extremely easy in my experience.

The amount of places I've realized that accept PayPal for the 3% cashback rate since getting this card is pretty amazing. It seems like most places online accept it, and then the occasional in-person place (Valero gas stations, CVS, etc.) Even Walmart accepts it if you purchase your order online and pickup as opposed to using it in-store. 22% of all online transactions in the U.S. are made through PayPal.

When comparing this card against the other available 2% cards, I don't see much reason to pick another one:
These are the only advantages/disadvantages that I see worth mentioning
1) Wells Fargo Active Cash Card
Advantages vs PayPal card:
Disadvantages vs PayPal card:
If the PayPal card's $200 sign-up limited time bonus ever returns I don't really see any reason to choose this over it. Otherwise, this is the one of the only cards on this list I could potentially justify over it at this time depending on how much PayPal-eligible spending you do.
2) Citi Double Cash
Advantages vs PayPal card:
Disadvantages vs PayPal card:
\on its own; combined with the Citi Rewards+ Card, an effective 2.22% can be earned up to 100,000/points per year. Credit to) u/JigglyJello1
3) Alliant Cashback Visa Signature Credit Card
Advantages vs PayPal card:
Disadvantages vs PayPal card:
The hassle of jumping through all the hoops to earn 2.5% as well as the potential interest lost by being required to keep money in a 0.25% APY checking against vs those that can earn over 3.0% APY does not seem to make this card worth it to me. The 0.25% APY very well could more than negate the extra 0.5% this earns over other 2% cards depending on your typical checking account balance.
4) Apple Card
Advantages vs PayPal card:
Disadvantages vs PayPal card:
Really, I don't even consider this a true 2% cashback card since it only earns 1% where Apply Pay isn't accepted. Also, in nearly every situation this card earns 3%, the PayPal card would also earn 3%. I am not a fan of this card.
5) Synchrony Premier World Mastercard
Advantages vs PayPal card:
Disadvantages vs PayPal card:
6) Bread Cashback American Express
Advantages vs PayPal card:
Disadvantages vs PayPal card:
In my opinion, while this card does have a few advantages, the ability to get 3% where PayPal is accepted is worth much more to me than the advantages listed for this card.
7) SoFi Credit Card
Advantages vs PayPal card:
Disadvantages vs PayPal card:
The requirement to create three SoFi accounts, fund them all, and use them for direct deposit is way too much hassle to make this card worth it in my opinion. However, the savings account is currently offered with an unlimited 4.0% APY, which might make this card worth it if you are chasing the bonus only if you are actively seeking a new bank. However, in general, I would not recommend this for anybody who isn't already doing business with SoFi.
8) Fidelity Rewards Visa Signature Card
Advantages vs PayPal card:
Disadvantages vs PayPal card:
I thought about this card since I use Fidelity for investing but ultimately did not get it since I can remain disciplined about investing. This might be a great card for those with Fidelity accounts that feel they struggle to stay disciplined with investing. Otherwise, this really doesn't beat the PayPal card in any other significant way.
\See comment by) u/BinLadensCousin on how card can potentially earn up to 3% for those with large sums of money invested by Fidelity wealth managers.
9) Evergreen by FNBO
Advantages vs PayPal card:
Disadvantages vs PayPal card:
This is a card similar to the Wells Fargo Active Cash, and for cash redemption, this is definitely better than the Citi Double Cash card. However, this still doesn't carry the value of the PayPal card.

In conclusion, I am not typically a fan of jumping through hoops or using specialized payment methods in order to earn higher rewards unless doing so is really easy. In the case of using PayPal to earn 3%, it really is super easy.
Curious what you guys think about this post and if you have any differing opinions about what the best 2% cashback personal credit card is -- for me, it's hard to justify anything that doesn't have a decent sign up bonus at a minimum. I think this card is routinely and unfairly left out of lists of best credit cards.
I was not paid to write this, this is solely my opinion.

2023.03.22 00:38 TotalResearch9789 Guidance for a 22 year old trying to open a 2nd credit card

Hello, everybody!! I am a 22 year old college student/server. I am incredibly new to the world of finance/credit building/etc., with little guidance from those around me. I have turned to Reddit as a good way to learn more about healthy money management. With that being said, I do have a question about opening another (2nd) credit card.
CURRENT (& first ever) CREDIT CARD: Capital One Venture
CREDIT LIMIT: $600 (from $500 starting point)
INCOME: ~$27,000
CREDIT KARMA SCORE: 680
FICO SCORE:
OLDEST ACCOUNT AGE: Capital One credit card has been opened 6 months
I am looking into opening a 2nd credit card account. The Capital One is great, but my limit is low and I am always nervous about my revolving utilization. I prioritize paying off my monthly statement so I am not concerned about opening a 2nd account and letting it get overwhelming. I am looking into either:
Chase Freedom Unlimited

Or
SoFi’s Credit Card

All that being said, any advice would be so greatly appreciated. As mentioned, I am very new to all of this so I’m just trying to learn. Thank you!!
Also, I guess my overall goal is to improve my credit score. I want to become preferable in the eyes of banking companies. Additionally, $600 limit is great, but it doesn’t provide the security I am seeking. I do currently live with my parents with only 2 bills to take care of (car insurance & phone bill). I understand that while I am not in dire need of credit, I would like the availability to be there.

This is all subjective, but I couldn't find a post detailing this when I was looking for course recommendations so here it is :)
I'm in the general track, but I'm sure some of these classes would fit into requirements for other major tracks.
btw: I am a peer mentor for Penn State but that DOES NOT mean I know everything. This is the perspective of a transfer student doing 2+2. Advisors are great for making sure you graduate so ask them if you have questions about your major requirements or credits needed. This is all my opinion based on my experience and/or high rate my professor scores.
Let me know if you need any clarification in the comments! Good luck out there :)
These are 400 level bio classes that can count towards major requirements for the biology general track. Make sure to check with your advisor and/or major check-sheet to be sure you are hitting all major requirements.

Also, some honorable mentions of classes I didn’t take but I heard good things about the profs/class

2023.03.22 00:03 BenJii15 Pixel 4a: SIM card read error?

Hi everyone! Thank you in advance to whomever tries to help me out with this one.
So ..I have a Pixel 4a, and I have a problem. There. Ive admitted it.
(Say what you want. Out of all my phones, this ones my baby.)
Well the phone was absolutely fine and then one night, I put it on charge and went to bed. The next morning, my status bar says "NO SIM - EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY!"
No calls, texts, or mobile data.
At first i thought maybe my roommate had taken my sim card bc he didnt have service on his phone at the time. But to my surprise, when I checked the tray...there was my sim card right where it was supposed to be.
I've tried toggling airplane mode on and off.
I've tried factory reset.
Ive even been so desperate as to elevate the SIM in the tray slightly with tiny SIM card shaped paper. 😭
Has anyone else went through this? Any advice from anyone would, at this point, be very much appreciated. Have a great day.

2023.03.21 23:47 digiphyit Why CPG Beauty & Personal Care Brands Need QR-Connected Packaging

QR is opening up an entirely new marketing channel that stands apart from traditional marketing strategies. Beauty brands need to implement innovative technology to stay relevant, reach new customers, and unlock new revenue.
A 2018 study commissioned by Conde Nast found that 80% of consumers spend most of the purchase journey in the research and information-gathering phase, and many look for this information while shopping in stores. These knowledgeable shoppers want beauty products that meet their care needs and match their personal beliefs.
QR marketing is the easiest way for consumers to research products beyond the label while shopping. Brands can share their story, product catalog, unique value proposition, sourcing, and other key differentiators elevating their current marketing strategies.

Boost CPG beauty & personal care online sales

According to Statista, in 2021, cosmetic brands recorded that over 59.8% of product sales were purchased from mobile devices meaning that brands need to put a renewed focus on their digital and mobile experience. Scanning a QR code bridges the gap between the in-hand product to the brand's digital presence.
For example, product samples are an excellent way for shoppers to try a new beauty product. After trying it, if consumers like the product, they can scan the QR code on the packaging. It's a quick and easy way to find and purchase full-size products online, research product ingredients and origins, get tips and consider similar products.
A QR code scan should give consumers a contextual experience about the in-hand product. Brands can communicate directly with consumers, ultimately driving online sales through a new marketing channel.

Communicate clean, traceable beauty

Shoppers are more attuned to what they are putting both in and on their bodies —and the impact the product and its ingredients have on the planet. Roughly 40% of consumers search for beauty products made with natural ingredients. But these details are tough to fit on the small packages standard for beauty and personal care products. Adding QR codes to products and packaging simplifies sharing relevant information with consumers past the label.
Putting information at the consumers' fingertips when they need it, beauty brands streamline the path to purchase. There's no need to spend unnecessary time Googling information or searching ingredient-ranking websites to decipher which reviews and websites you can trust.
Beyond simply including ingredients, QR code traceability combat counterfeits. Did you know the beauty and personal care industry loses $5.4B in sales yearly? Beauty brands can implement QR codes across products and packaging to verify authenticity.
Check out the full article to find out how QR-connected packaging helps beauty brands build an online community and foster user-created content. Read more

2023.03.21 22:34 JustForFun321_ Withdrawing my 401k today, In desperate need of advice or a strategy to get back on track.

My problem:

My checking account is in the negative after recent auto bill pay transactions for two days.
I've already explored every option possible but after losing my job and my car taking a Sh*t, I have to take the last resource I have which is my 401k. I'm a single father with 3 kids and yes life happens, we prepare but things can severely change within a year. A year ago my credit score was 722 and I had about 20% debt utilization.
Today my score (average score) is 628 with a debt utilization of 67%. Didn't help when Wells Fargo cut my personal line of credit and their credit card by $1,400 total. No charge-offs ever, collections ever, late payments ever in my 12 year credit history as a home owner (3 months behind) and trying to salvage my credit because my only way out (in my opinion) is to start a business and get back on track with business credit and working as an entrepreneur.
I had to use credit cards to fill in the blanks but now the engine in my car needs to be replaced (Timing Chain) and I desperately need transportation. I need to figure it out fast!

My immediate priority:

To find a way to withdraw the most I can of my $20K in my Vanguard 401k by finding a way to avoid as much of the 20% withholding and/or penalties associated. Should I transfeconvert to a Roth or Solo 401k then width drawl? Should I apply for a personal loan given my personal credit changes? Yes I've been doing my due diligence and everyone's situation is different but since my job laid me off last year, i need to get the most money I can ASAP.

My Strategy:

To get as much money as I can from my 401K and open up a business banking and checking. Place $5-10K on a prepaid secured card and the same on a pledge loan. Immediately set up both for automatic payments and pay off about 90% each. Building my business credit portfolio and using some money to put down on a vehicle. I don't have the best credit score but 0% down would be perfect with a credit union and i would refinance later. This would at least give me the opportunity to do ride share with UbeLyft anytime although this would be my first time. I forgot to mention that I'm taking classes and would finish with my undergrad in the fall and I would get some student loan money in the fall (potentially). Beyond rideshare for income i would be pouring my time into various opportunities as an entrepreneur since jobs don't hire without experience or certifications in software development and/or cyber security.

It has been very stressful so that is literally the best realistic plan I can come up with given my constraints.
Feel free to make any suggestions, I don't know what options are out there but I believe this post will provide a few things that I.m unaware of. Thanks in advance! Respectfully.

Remote Business in China: Overview on Chinese Cross-Border Platforms
Since the beginning of the 20th century international trade has been a major driver of China's GDP growth. The liberalization of trade associated with free trade zones is now supported by the development of cross border ecommerce and online retailers business. There are some famous examples of Western online retail sites such as Amazon. China, however, is now a leading country in the field of online shopping development.
Today we have prepared a detailed article for you with an overview of the TOP 9 popular and working cross-border ecommerce online marketplaces in China for remote business. In this article, you will learn why cross-border ecommerce is one of the most convenient ways for global brands from other countries to do business in the world's second largest economy using the potential of today's largest ecommerce market.
Author: Alexander Sabantsev, China Digital Marketing Agency
https://preview.redd.it/wcvrcwo2f5pa1.png?width=861&format=png&auto=webp&s=696bf2aa1ffad51d19558471ea2c748b5d775d8b
The benefits of working with Chinese customers through cross border e-commerce are a driver for any Chinese company to increase revenue, as leading e-commerce platforms and online shopping help to improve the connection between Chinese sellers and Chinese shoppers. Chinese shoppers are mostly online shoppers, as the average Chinese spends more than 5 hours a day on mobile services. Modern Chinese consumers consider online retail as the most convenient way to easily select goods from both Chinese businesses and international sellers, who in turn are interested in online sales as a way to reduce costs and benefit from the flash sales effect.
Nowadays, the cross-border Chinese ecommerce system allows foreign companies to conduct business activities through a global supply chain and enter China's complex market without having to establish a Chinese legal entity, open an account in a Chinese bank, and create a very expensive operational infrastructure such as opening an office, a warehouse, hiring employees, etc. In order to attract as many foreign brands as possible, most of China's major marketplaces, interested in increasing the number of third party sellers, have launched cross-border trading sections on their platforms in recent years.

Tmall Global

Founded in 2014, Tmall Global is a leading cross border China online marketplace and one of the fastest growing ecommerce platforms with a large market share among other online marketplaces in China which are engaged in international trade. This China marketplace is a special online platform for trading imported goods of the flagship Chinese online marketplace – Tmall owned by Alibaba Group. 800 million people are active Tmall users, and one in eight of them shop on Tmall Global. About 30% of the more than 100 million audience belong to Generation Z, the most active group of Chinese consumers on China market.
On the other hand, Tmall Global sells 35 000 international brands from over 90 countries through its online marketplace market. For 80% of them, Jack Ma's online marketplace has become the first sales channel in the Chinese market with one of the highest transaction volumes.
Such popularity of this China marketplace is explained by the fact that Tmall has never had a clear specialization in the sale of goods related to a very narrow product niche. As a result, Tmall Global generally attracts a wide variety of shoppers with a wide variety of needs. However, unlike Taobao mall which operates on the consumer-to-consumer model, Tmall is not an online marketplace for small businesses. Entry requirements are high for both domestic companies and international merchants. Chinese online marketplaces Tmall and Tmall Global are more attractive for global brands specializing in manufacturing high quality products, the probability of buying counterfeit products on one of the largest chain store in China is minimal. We should note that manufacturers of beauty and health products and light-weight snacks with medium and high margins should pay special attention to this platform.

Home page (left), product card (center) and Tmall Global online store page (right)

Kaola

Kaola is another leading Chinese marketplace and is one of the largest online marketplaces engaged in cross-border ecommerce. The Kaola platform attracts over 30 million users with a 25% market share of all cross-border Chinese marketplaces trade transactions in China. The name of the Chinese marketplace (consonant with the word "koala") suggests that it was originally focused exclusively on Australian brands. But a little later, the scope of the Chinese online marketplace expanded to include the sale of imported goods from all over the world.
However, unlike Tmall and some other Chinese marketplaces, Kaola is positioned as a slightly more "prestigious" China online marketplace for the Chinese middle class whose representatives often go to the platform for shopping. The loyalty of this demanding group of consumers is ensured by a strict system of product selection and quality control. The online marketplace has even developed its own system that helps shoppers track the customs history of goods using QR codes. Thanks to this, users have no doubts about the authenticity of the goods sold. As a result, the brand's presence on Kaola increases its appeal in China.
The main product categories on the Chinese marketplace are infant formula and other children's products, snacks, health foods, cosmetics, apparel, accessories and home appliances.

J.D. Worldwide

JD Worldwide, the import section of another popular third party marketplace JD.com, is seen as an alternative to the top online marketplaces such as Tmall Global for exporters looking to generate revenue from cross-border trade.
JD has become a famous China marketplace for having the most developed system of its own warehouses and delivery of goods. The company is also trying to maintain its brand by working with foreign merchants. JD Worldwide has partnered with global (DHL) and regional (Australia Post and Yamato) logistics leaders. In addition, the Chinese online marketplace has 32 warehouses for cross-border trade. In January 2022, JD announced a partnership with western e-commerce giant Shopify. This allowed Shopify sellers to enter the Chinese market through JD with little to no effort.
As with Tmall, almost every conceivable category of B2C products is sold on the JD platform. However, manufacturers of goods for automobiles, home appliances and electronics should pay special attention to JD Worldwide. The majority of Chinese consumers look for such goods on JD, expecting the high quality approach and effective after sales services. Today, it is difficult to consider JD as one of the pure play marketplaces because its scope is quite broad.

Duoduo International

The Pinduoduo marketplace (PDD) became a major Chinese ecommerce sensation in the second half of the 2010s due to two reasons. First, unlike other popular Chinese online marketplaces, Pinduoduo is a group shopping system that allows users to buy together at very deep discounts. The second is its focus on consumers from China's affluent hinterland. But it has also become a source of vulnerability in the e-commerce platform's business model. Although Pinduoduo's active users are on par with the market leader Tmall, the total sales of goods on the site are significantly lower than those on Alibaba's marketplace and some other Chinese online marketplaces.
In order to somehow solve this problem, Pinduoduo launched its own cross-border section - Duoduo International in 2019. As a newcomer in this business, PDD started to attract foreign brands with favorable conditions for entering the Chinese marketplace. Unlike other marketplaces, the owners of online stores on Duoduo International do not have to pay an annual service fee, and the registration deposit and order commission are noticeably lower than those of competitors.
However, cross-border from PDD has a significant drawback – the marketplace does not have its own warehouses and logistics solutions, so sellers have to deal with these issues themselves.
Pinduoduo is actively developing the trade of foreign cosmetics and perfumes. Taking into account the main audience of the site, we can recommend Duoduo International to manufacturers of conspicuous consumption products.

Douyin Cross Border

Douyin, the Chinese twin brother of TikTok, has become a symbol of the convergence of social media and online retail in China. Douyin has many of the elements needed to succeed in e-commerce. On the one hand, it has the most engaging content formats – short videos watched by 900 million Chinese on various platforms, and live broadcasts, which became one of the main profit-making tools in Chinese online commerce in the 2010s. On the other hand, there are more than 600 million active users and an army of influencers who have earned the trust of their subscribers.
Therefore, in 2018, Douyin entered the e-commerce market, initially by actively collaborating with Alibaba marketplaces. Two years later, Douyin broke off its partnership with Tmall and built its own infrastructure to provide full-cycle in-app trading. And in 2021, it began to attract foreign brands for cross-border trade.
On the whole, cross-border trading on Douyin is still in the early stages of development, which allows even small-brand product sellers to carve out a significant niche on the platform. However, when choosing which products to display and how to promote them, it is very important to remember that Douyin is the territory of wealthy Gen Z consumers.

Kuaishou Cross Border

Kuaishou, with its 400 million viewers, is often metaphorically called "TikTok for the Chinese village". The majority of its users are young residents of provincial cities who prefer to watch short videos about people similar to themselves, rather than about the daily lives of rich KOLs.
Although Kuaishou is still playing catch-up with Douyin, the social network began to engage in e-commerce much earlier than its main competitor. As a result, about 20% of the company's revenue now comes from e-commerce (while Douyin still relies mainly on advertising revenue).
But at the same time, like Douyin, Kuaishou only announced the start of its cross-border business last year. Therefore, this part of Kuaishou's business is still in its infancy, which may be even more beneficial for exporters - the platform will offer more favorable cooperation terms and additional services at this stage. However, it is not so easy to get on Kuaishou now - the site only accepts manufacturers of cosmetics, food, watches and luxury goods, and then only by invitation from Kuaishou itself.

VIP International

VIP.com is one of the oldest Chinese marketplaces, as well as the world's largest flash-sale marketplace (the main method of sales on it is discount offers that are valid for no more than 24 hours). The products that are sold on this Chinese marketplace are mainly related to the fashion industry – clothes, shoes, cosmetics, etc.
While VIP.com is no match for the largest marketplaces in China's overall e-commerce market, its cross-border division, VIP International, is among the market leaders, accounting for approximately 10% of China's cross-border B2C commerce.
Buying popular brands at low prices is what its users come to the platform for. Therefore, unless you are a world famous brand, VIP.com is unlikely to be your first sales channel in China.

Little Red Book Cross-Border

If Douyin and Kuaishou are Chinese versions of TikTok, then Little Red Book (or simply RED) can be loosely described as the local Instagram. On this platform, ordinary users and influencers talk about their lifestyles and write reviews on the products they use (mostly these are clothes, cosmetics, skin care products). Other users can purchase the products shown in the photos with just a few clicks. This can be done both in stores within the application and by clicking on links to third-party marketplaces (for example, Tmall). In this way, a business account on Little Red Book can serve two functions at once – an independent sales channel and a tool for promoting products on other platforms.
It is worth noting that RED has a very unusual demographic profile – about 90% of the platform's 100 million audience are women.

Suning Global

Suning was originally known in China as a large offline retailer of various electronics. Later, it began to expand both in terms of the breadth of the range of goods in various categories, and in terms of its presence on the Chinese Internet. One step in Suning's e-commerce push was to attract cross-border brands from overseas.
However, Suning is not only waiting for brands of foreign electronic equipment to enter its marketplace. The company writes on its website that it primarily would like to see foreign manufacturers of baby food, cosmetics, shoes, bags and food products on its platform. In addition, while other major e-commerce platforms prefer to deal with brands that have not yet entered the Chinese market, Suning explicitly states that brands that are already listed on Tmall or JD are more likely to open an online store.
To date, Suning is the least significant of the major players, with its marketplace accounting for approximately 1.5% of the total cross-border market in China.

Conclusions

Today, more than 1400 categories of various products can be exported to China through cross-border channels (a complete list of these categories can be found at the link – a document in Chinese). Today cross-border ecommerce gives numerous opportunities to purchase inventory directly, buy consumer products from foreign brands, etc.
You can open your own cross-border online store on a dozen Chinese platforms and become a successful online retailer. Some of them are traditional marketplaces, while others are social networks with e-commerce features. But despite the differences, their requirements for exporters are similar:
● Entity registered outside of China
● Foreign registered trademark
● Statement from a foreign bank account
● Copy of passport of company's representative
● Payment of a refundable deposit (from $1.5 thousand on Pinduoduo to $10-47 thousand dollars on Tmall, depending on the category)
● Payment of an annual service fee (from $1 thousand for JD to $4.7-9.4 thousand for Tmall)
● Platform commission on orders (from 0.6% on Pinduoduo to 2-10% on Kaola)
Trading through cross-border makes it much easier to do business in China. The absence of the need to open a legal entity and a bank account in China helps reduce the risks of entering an unfamiliar market. Thus, small brands have the opportunity to test the demand for their products in China or prove to investors that they are promising without large initial investments.
China is closer than you think.

Let’s take a look at some of the customization items you’ll be unlocking...

THE FIREWALL FRACTURE

We’ve previously teased that this Fracture is going to be a little different to its TENRAI and ENTRENCHED siblings, as FIREWALL encompasses narrative threads that are firmly rooted in the Halo canon you know and love.
FIREWALL still represents the core Fracture concept of remixing and putting a new spin on existing Halo aesthetics and themes, as the CHIMERA Armor Core gives us a glimpse at a potential digital future where man and machine exist as one...
But this future is a vision that has been conceived by artificial minds within the Halo universe itself in the wake of Cortana’s sacrifice on Zeta Halo.
Cortana has been defeated. While the greater urgency of the Created threat has begun to subside with the loss of their leader, its presence still lingers on throughout the digital framework of civilized space. Now fragmented, individual cells of Created-aligned artificial intelligences have already begun to once again reframe their place in the galaxy, some with eyes on peace and independence—others with plans of evolution and ascendancy still fresh on their synthetic minds.
High Auxiliary Sloan was one of Cortana’s most loyal lieutenants. With Cortana’s piece now removed from the game board, Sloan has set the FIREWALL contingency into motion—a living simulation meant to leverage intimate knowledge of Forerunner armiger technology and Mjolnir armor schematics to accelerate the exploration and development of cybernetic essence vessels designed to usher the human mind into its inevitable and digital future, immortal and untethered.

STORY SHARD: PRECIPICE

Key art for the Fracture: FIREWALL Story Shard series titled Precipice
Accompanying the debut and return of the FIREWALL Event is an all-new Story Shard, titled Precipice.
Each part of Precipice is broken up into two sections: a canonical testimony from High Auxiliary Sloan, who fans may recall as the artificial governor of the glassed colony Meridian in Halo 5: Guardians, followed by a Fracture simulation that explores a series of hypothetical scenarios the Executor—the being you play as when you equip the CHIMERA Armor Core—must undertake.

  • Stardust Adaptation helmet attachment

As a reminder, super bundles have a limited run where they offer players the opportunity to buy multiple offers packaged together at once—at a price that is substantially less than buying each of them individually, as these will eventually be split into separate bundles.
As noted in our Season 3 Customization Preview blog, the philosophy behind this experimental change is to deliver more valuable bundles at a reduced price out of the gate, meaning that players can obtain more of Season 3’s customization content early and at a lower price than buying them all separately.

HALO GEAR REWARDS

Halo Gear Rewards are back for Season 3 and Fracture: FIREWALL!
Halo Gear Rewards are exclusive limited-edition products in the Halo Gear Shop that players can earn access to purchase after completing specific in-game accomplishments.
In Season 3: Echoes Within, players will have the opportunity to earn access to four collectible Halo Infinite pins, each tied to a specific event in Season 3.
Next up, players can earn access to the FIREWALL Logo Pin by completing the full Fracture event and making their purchase from the Halo Gear Shop by July 4 to secure the reward.

How does it work?
Upon completion of each qualifying event, the player will receive a reward code via their Halo Waypoint Profile.
When you complete each event, simply visit Halo Waypoint online or via mobile and sign into your account to trigger your reward. The reward code will be delivered to you via Waypoint notifications.
Please note that it may take up to 24 hours for the code to be delivered after completion of an event.
Once you receive the reward code, visit the Halo Gear Shop and hop to the respective Pin product page to proceed with your purchase. The price will look REALLY high, but don’t worry!
  • Add the pin to your cart and proceed to checkout.
  • In checkout you will enter the code in the “Gift card or discount code” field. Click apply.
  • The cost will update to the pin’s actual retail price.
  • Finish your transaction by entering your shipping and billing details and selected your shipping option.
  • This is a pre-order item that will ship in Q3/Q4 2023.
  • The Halo Gear Rewards items are available for purchase until the dates specified.
Note: This is not the real price of the collectible pin. This is a Halo Gear Rewards item, exclusively for Halo Infinite players that have completed one of the qualifying Season 3 events. Qualifying players will receive a code to reduce the price to the intended retail cost.
Now then, Executor, it’s time for you to combine mind and machine by donning your CHIMERA Armor Core and showing those rogue biologics how it’s done.
