From a Sarajevo War Survivor: Experiencing horrible things that can happen in a war - death of parents and friends, hunger and malnutrition, endless freezing cold, fear, sniper attacks.
Stockpiling helps. but you never no how long trouble will last, so locate near renewable food sources. Living near a well with a manual pump is like being in Eden. After awhile, even gold can lose its luster. But there is no luxury in war quite like toilet paper. Its surplus value is greater than gold's. If you had to go without one utility, lose electricity - it's the easiest to do without (unless you're in a very nice climate with no need for heat.) Canned foods are awesome, especially if their contents are tasty without heating. One of the best things to stockpile is canned gravy - it makes a lot of the dry unappetizing things you find to eat in war somewhat edible. Only needs enough heat to "warm", not to cook. It's cheap too, especially if you buy it in bulk. Bring some books - escapist ones like romance or mysteries become more valuable as the war continues. Sure, it's great to have a lot of survival guides, but you'll figure most of that out on your own anyway - trust me, you'll have a lot of time on your hands. The feeling that you're human can fade pretty fast. I can't tell you how many people I knew who would have traded a much needed meal for just a little bit of toothpaste, rouge, soap or cologne. Not much point in fighting if you have to lose your humanity. These things are morale-builders like nothing else. Slow burning candles and matches, matches, matches

I grew up with the leafy green type of salad and fruit salad. But googling recipes has taught me that almost anything can be a salad, stuff that I'd call a dip, a trifle or even just a jelly desert. So I'm curious and looking for inspiration, what is still a salad for you that's more than just veggies and vinaigrette?

Well, I’m bummed. My first grow bag has been a disaster. It fully colonized, produced some small fruits after a month of attempted fruiting, but most of the new growth was side pins, so…

I woke up with a freckled patchwork of green trich on top this morning that wasn’t there yesterday night. So far I’ve…

• picked whatever early growth I could get off of the block.
• thrown the grow bag block out
• thrown out two jars and all the perlite from the tub
• sprayed the tub, immediate area and nearby grow bags down with Lysol.

However, since the tub was exposed to open air, I’m worried that the spores are all over everything, including clothing.
What should I expect at this point, and what else should I do to prevent continued contamination?

I spend $800 on food for 2 people (now 3 with a little one) per month and I've been reading people say that's high. I feel like I'm pretty frugal but I don't know how to save more. we never eat out and we always buy food in Costo, local butchery (that's cheaper than Maxi or Nofrill), Arabic veggie market (cheapest around). So I don't know how to save more money. We only eat basic stuff, meat, veggie, fruits. never too much junk food. But I like to eat well.

A cloak of red roses but the nose of sauvignon is ripe horse droppings. They'll watch the losers weep to the bookies like Aquinas looks at the souls of the damned.
Blocks away the homeless gather under the viaducts of the Watterson like lepers, or stoop in a clump of shadows by a vacant lot, their camps scoured clean by the locusts of industry. Your eye can hardly pick them out amid the pinks and blues. The green jewel in the julep is gently stirred by the thunder of hooves.

Alright, so I made a green been casserole for my wife’s family back at Christmas, and it was a hit. Because GBC is usually disgusting, I made as much as possible from scratch (fresh beans, fried onions, and homemade cream of mushroom soup - sort of).
Anyway, it’s been requested for Easter this year, but I have something of an issue: most of her family doesn’t like the texture of mushroom. At Christmas, I solved this by steeping the mushrooms in vegetable broth to get the flavor without any chunks. However, I’m not a fan of waste and I did not enjoy throwing out 3/4lb of mushroom, even after boiling most of the flavor out of them.
I have a potential solution, but I’m not sure how much it will change the texture or flavor:
I have an air fryer with a dehydrator function (and admittedly, im absolutely looking for an excuse to use it). I thought about making a mushroom powder from the same amount of shroom the original recipe calls for. Having never really worked with mushroom powder, would it be as easy as making the powder and adding all of it to veggie broth? Or would that overwhelm the flavor and make the soup gritty?

What I am saying is the following is what I have done personally, and the result has been that I have not experienced IH in four months.
Long post ahead
Background
I’m 39 year-old white male. I suffered with IH for as long as I can remember (and I remember having this problem in my early childhood—probably as young as 8 years old).
IH would manifest for me as a super-intense, sudden onset sleepiness in the late mornings, mid-afternoon, early evening. It wouldn’t matter if I slept 12 hours the night before or 4 hours. Same thing would happen.
It would be such that I felt intoxicated many times, couldn’t think straight, very irritable, and an acute “I must sleep right now or I will die” feeling.
I started taking doctor-prescribed stimulants in August 2021. These did not solve IH, but made it more difficult to sleep at night.
Now
I had gradually made some changes and lost around 20 pounds (from 195lbs to 175lbs), but late in 2022, I began in earnest to reevaluate and modify my nutrition and health. I did this completely unrelated to IH. I just decided that I was getting older and wanted to see if I could become more health conscious and eat better.
So I did. The benefits were quickly observed, such as maintaining the weight loss. The most delightful benefit, however, was my IH went away.
The following is not scientific. I did not isolate one thing to test its impact on my IH. I just did all of them at the same time and my IH disappeared.
I’ve kept all of this up since late November, early December.
Not only is the IH gone, but I feel better in nearly every metric in my life: better mood, improved libido, sharper focus, and continued weight loss, but not dramatic (10lbs more this year).
Here is the list of what I personally did, and though it has worked for me, it may not work for anyone else:

1. Switched to Natural/Raw dairy (i.e. unpasteurized milk)
   
2. Stopped drinking straight tap water (switched to 90-95% mineral water or coconut water, and 5-10% filtered, purified water)
   
3. Cold coconut water or mineral water first thing when I wake up in the morning.
   
4. Substantial decrease in caffeine consumption.
   

• Learning about “over caffeinating” was revolutionary for me. No coffee for the first 90mins - 2 hours after waking. And only 12-16 total ounces at most for an entire day.

1. My diet is mostly meat, eggs, and dairy. I eat some fruit, and some veggies (but very few).
   
2. Significant reduction in processed foods (any food in a box). I’m working towards total elimination of processed food.
   
3. I eliminated “seed oils” from my diet (only use olive, avocado, or coconut oil, real butter, lard and beef tallow to cook).
   

• Consequently, I reduced eating at restaurants by 95%.

1. Sunlight every day.
   
2. Switched to non-fluoride toothpaste.
   
3. Cold showers.
   

My morning routine regardless of how much sleep I got the night before:

• Open the blinds to let sunlight in, get out of bed and grab a coconut or mineral water from the fridge and drink it right away, if I’m showering that day, I set it to “uncomfortably cold” and jump in for 2 mins (then turning to warm to finish up if needed), and I’m dressed and out in the sunlight as soon as possible after waking up (no sunglasses, no sunscreen, letting the sunlight soak on my skin—even on cloudy days this works).

That’s everything. No real exercise to speak of. No vitamin supplements. No meds.
My IH is gone.
What’s been crazy for me is that I’m so used to napping in the afternoon that I still “want to” sometimes. So I’ll get into bed to nap, but can’t fall asleep. My energy level is too high and I have to get back up after a few minutes.
Anyway, maybe this will be beneficial for someone. Or maybe for no one.
If nothing else, I hope to merely encourage you to keep tinkering and striving to find a strategy that works for you. I inadvertently stumbled upon a combination of things that has worked for me for now. And I wanted to share that.
I hope everyone here finds what works for them. Because IH truly sucks, and I want all of us to overcome it somehow and at some point.

Hello ! I take meat or fish for dinner. Each time comes dinner time, I have a huge craving for meat or fish and tend to eat a lot, like 200g or sometimes even 300g. I was wondering if there is something I am missing in my diet that creates these cravings and that could help me decrease my animal protein intake. In the morning, I do the heavy metal detox cleanse. At lunch, I eat steamed potatoes and vegetables as well as raw vegetables and avocado. In the afternoon, I have a fruit smoothie and the apples and greens juice, plus herbal tea and adrenal snacks. I take B12, Zinc and other supplements in the morning.
Anyone experienced something like this? Any suggestions for what I could add or do differently ? TIA

My b/g twins used to LOVE purées when I started them slowly around 5/6 mo. We started with fruits and some veggies and around 6/7 mo we started offering safe solids. They mainly just played with it but I enjoyed the idea of BLW. But then they started pushing the spoon away anytime i tried to give them purées, and I admit with how busy we’ve been I haven’t been super on top of offering them purées. I always try to give them something they can pick up and feed themselves, they love those puff things. And now i feel more comfortable letting them try to feed themselves boiled green beans, avocado ect and anytime they start eating them they literally puke lol i know they say food before 1 is just for fun, but why do I feel like I’m super behind on solids? They have noooo interest anymore, even fruit! And now as we approach 9 months I’m like panicked they won’t want any solids by the time they’re 1. Is this normal? Am i being dramatic? Haha

The reaping for District 13, which included the rest of the world, including South America, Asia, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Africa, was the largest District. Hence, it was decided to reap from a different country each time, and put the slips of paper back in the bowl every five years, but unused countries would have more names in the bowl. President Isadora Gaul reached into the bowl of countries, removing a slip of paper. She read aloud the country of France. Many were excited to see how France would compete in the Games. France currently had 57,493 youths between 12-18 living in France, which was still a lot.
Due to District 13 not having a previous victor, a young 26 year old Swedish woman named Maja Ahlquist. Maja was a young lady who was strong with weaponry, and had led Sweden during the takeover the year prior. All war leaders had been spared from prosecution, but had been warned not to rebel, and signed contracts stating that they wouldn’t.
Agrippina Billings (victor of the 101st Games) stood on the stage in front of the crowd of French youths. Several three finger salutes were seen, and those youths were quickly tased. Agrippina wished the odds be in each youths favor, before reaching into the female bowl.
She removed a slip of paper and read aloud the name of fifteen year old Antoinette Gauthier. A scream of horror was heard as peacekeepers entered the crowd. Several other fifteen year old girls attempted to block the peacekeepers, but upon having guns pointed at them, they dejectedly moved out of the way. A shorter girl with golden blonde curls and ocean blue eyes was dragged to the stage, where she shook Agrippina’s hand.
Agrippina then reached into the male bowl, removing the name of eighteen year old Roy Cloutier. A boy with dark brown hair and brown eyes showed a three finger salute as he was dragged to the stage. He shouted obscenities at the peacekeepers dragging him, and even at Agrippina. He refused to shake her hand, and was ultimately left alone.
The two were taken into the town hall for visits with family.
Antoinette was visited by her parents and two older brothers. She cried a bit as they comforted her, before being taken straight to the hovercraft.
Roy was visited by his older brother and older sister. All three spoke rebelliously, before Roy was taken away.
Once on the hovercraft, Roy and Antoinette were taken straight to Maja. Maja applauded Roy on his rebellious behavior, before turning to Antoinette, who looked like she might cry. Maja sighed before showing her tributes how to throw knives and use spears. Antoinette seemed better with the knives, while Roy was better with the spear.
After a relatively short nine hour ride, the two were taken straight to the limo by Maja, who muttered rebelliously under her breath.
Once back at the apartment, Maja showed her tributes some old Games. They rested and watched old Games, and on the day before the parade, they were visited by their stylist, Angelique Fontaine. Angelique was from one of fifty families selected from each country in District 13 and each other District to move to the Capitol.
Angelique chose to dress them in a look she called “French chic”, which included black sweaters, white fur pants and skirt, black fur lined boots, and black berets.
Just as she was finishing up the look, Maja flipped the television on to District 4’s reaping.
Agrippina stood in front of the female bowl. She wished the odds be in each youth’s favor, before reaching into the bowl. She read the slip of paper within, smirking, before reading aloud the name of seventeen year old Oceania Carter. A scream was heard as Mayor Carter of District 4 collapsed to the ground. A girl with red curls of hair and green eyes was taken to the stage, where she shook Agrippina’s hand. Oceania was a descendant of Rea Carter from the 88th Games’s cousin.
Agrippina then reached into the male bowl, removing the name of fifteen year old Hurley Thomas. A medium sized boy with ebony skin and curly dark brown eyes walked to the stage, and nervously shook Agrippina’s hand. Both tributes were then taken into the town hall for visits with family.

Hurley was visited by his mother and younger sister. He told them he would try to make them proud. He also told his mother where he had hid some money, before being taken to the train.
Hurley and Oceania entered the train and were greeted by their mentors, Sandy Sellick (victor of the 93rd Games) and Limerick Manx (victor of the 88th Games). Once the train arrived at the station, Oceania was happy to pose for photos, while Hurley was a bit nervous at first, but gained some personality after a while. Both were then taken by limo to the apartment.

Interestingly enough I started my weightloss journey to help me keep my mind busy and to motivate me to stop smoking cigarettes. I smoked over a pack a day. This sunday will be week 4 of no cigarettes and I'm down 10lbs. I hyper fixate on things so currently its losing weight and lifting weights. Started at 256lbs last sunday today I weighed in at 246lbs. I have an issue with binge eating. Currently I'm binging on "healthy food" and just thought id share whats helping me out. I know I need to stop binging but I cant right now. Im okay with just dealing with the no smoking for now. Currently when I feel a sweet binge coming for example I eat about 125g of non fat plain greek yogurt, 20g reduced sugar cinnamon granola, and 200g of strawberries. That equals about 200 calories for ALOT of food and satisfies that binge feeling. I have been tracking my macros and fit my binges in there. Its surprising how much fruit and veggies you can eat and get that awesome full feeling you get after a nice binge. Just wanted to share Im still binge eating and losing weight and getting stronger in the gym. Deadlifted 275lbs for 3 sets of 7 for reference yesterday.

Looking for a place with lots of acres that my wife and I can build a fruitful garden and have some cattle.
Ideally a place that the cattle won't be eaten by like cyotes or insects and same for the fruits and veggies, that they will require little maintenance to produce healthy produce.

I haven't been to Utopia in ages and was running low on food and didn't feel like fishing, so I stopped by Utopia thinking that the fish and fruits and veggies in the market respawn.
