2023.03.29 12:14 JustBoatTrash On Long and Variable Lags in Monetary Policy

https://www.atlantafed.org/about/atlantafed/officers/executive_office/bostic-raphael/message-from-the-president/2022/11/15/long-and-variable-lags-in-monetary-policy
Starting in March, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) has raised the federal funds rate six times—from a range of zero to 0.25 percent, to a range of 3.75 to 4 percent. In June, the Committee began reducing the Fed's holdings of securities, shrinking the balance sheet, another tool to pull money out of the economy and thus slow inflation.
For numerous reasons, it is difficult to predict exactly when these policy moves will significantly reduce the inflation rate. I will discuss here one of the complicating factors that is especially salient, the "long and variable" lag between a monetary policy action and its impact on the economy, and on inflation in particular. As the November FOMC statement noted, for the first time in this policy tightening cycle, the Committee will consider lags as it determines the pace of future increases in the federal funds rate.
The funds rate is the interest banks charge one another for overnight loans from their reserves at the Federal Reserve. It influences rates lenders charge borrowers. The basic idea is that higher borrowing costs will slow overall demand in the economy, which in turn will reduce inflationary pressures.
That happens gradually. A large body of research tells us it can take 18 months to two years or more for tighter monetary policy to materially affect inflation. You may be wondering: Why does it take so long?
The US economy is a vast, complex ecosystem of interrelated forces. So, it takes businesses and consumers time to recognize, feel, and act on changes in financial conditions. For instance, firms are continually making capital investments that require financing. If a company has already started to build a factory or introduce a new product line, it will often continue to move forward rather than halt the project in midstream, even though financing costs have changed since it launched the venture.
The bite comes for planned projects or expansions down the road; companies may be less likely to start these. Also, we know pricing decisions for many businesses not only hinge on current costs but are also what we call "sticky"—they don't change often even as economic conditions shift.
Both examples make clear that it can take many months for these decisions to affect the economy and prices.
To be sure, there is considerable uncertainty about how these policy lags will play out. We are still learning about an economy that is rapidly changing after an unprecedented global pandemic and other surprising events, such as the war in Ukraine, that shocked important economic sectors. In fact, one school of thought suggests that the lags may be shorter in part because of policy guidance that, in effect, allows financial markets to react to policy before we implement it. We tell them it's coming, so financial conditions in the marketplace begin changing in anticipation.
Still, monetary policy unquestionably works with a lag. So, we at the FOMC calibrate policy today knowing we won't see its full impact on inflation for months. In those circumstances, we must look to economic signals other than inflation as guideposts along our path.
Parts of the economy that are especially sensitive to interest rates, such as residential real estate, show the effects of monetary policy first. Indeed, the latest data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis tell us private residential fixed investment—mostly home buying—fell more than 25 percent in the third quarter at an annual rate. Recently, my staff and I have seen clues that tighter financial conditions may be pinching other sectors such as commercial real estate development and banking. By and large, though, it appears tighter money has not yet constrained business activity enough to seriously dent inflation.
Because today's inflation is a by-product of an imbalance between supply and demand, our job at the FOMC is to bring them into better balance. We will achieve this by attaining a monetary policy stance that is sufficiently restrictive to return inflation to our target. We are not there now, and so I anticipate that more rate hikes will be needed. How will I know when we are close to that mark?
I will need to see indicators of broad-based easing of inflation.
There are glimmers of hope. After the pace of increases in goods prices accelerated in every month but one for 19 months, it slowed in July, August, and September, the last three months for which data are available, according to the Personal Consumption Expenditures price index, the FOMC's preferred inflation gauge.
We will need to see increases in services prices slow, too. So far, we haven't. The PCE price index shows the pace of monthly increases in services prices ticked up in three of the past four months.
One key to easing pressures on services prices will be a better balance between demand and supply in labor markets because most service industries are labor intensive. There, recent evidence is mixed. Despite some declines in the huge number of job vacancies, the labor market remains tight as openings still far exceed the number of job seekers. That creates upward pressure on wages.
Right now, job number one for the FOMC is to tame inflation that is unacceptably high. If high inflation persists for too long and becomes entrenched in the economy, we know that more prolonged and deeper economic pain will ensue. So, while there are risks that our policy actions to tame inflation could induce a recession, that would be preferred to the alternative.
But, as I noted in recent remarks, a recession is not a foregone conclusion, and we will try to avoid one if at all possible. And there are many scenarios in which a recession, if it does occur, could turn out to be mild by historical standards.
Once we reach the appropriately restrictive policy stance to tame inflation, I think our course of action is clear. As I explained in this October speech, the FOMC will need to maintain this stance until we see convincing evidence that inflation is firmly on track toward our 2 percent objective.

2023.03.29 11:40 chambrez I eat healthy, train x 4-5 a week, play sport, do not drink alcohol or fizzy drinks… So why am I still the same weight?

During lockdown I gained 2 stone (12.7 kgs) of just pure fat, and probably lost muscle mass too… I was probably 90kgs before the end of 2020, and have since risen to as high as 105kg but have fluctuated between 100-105kg for the past 2 years or so…
I’ve been back in the gym ever since lockdowns were lifted. I’ve been eating relatively healthy, with the odd blip and odd takeaway. And since the start of 2022 cut all casual use of alcohol and will only drink for an occasion such as my birthday, Christmas or a holiday.
Since the start of 2023:
I’m 100kgs, I started the year at 103kgs. Since the start of this year I’ve been doing everything to lose weight (fat) and still remain 100kgs. Eating a diet which consists of close to 200g protein and less than 70g of fat. On a rest day I max 1700 calories and on a training day 1900 calories.
My training split is currently: Monday: Pull and cardio Tuesday: Push and cardio Wednesday: Rest Thursday: Legs and cardio Friday: Arms and cardio Weekend: Rest
I will play football once a week on a Thursday also.
I’ve lost around 3kg which I guess is a sign it’s working. And can appreciate with weight training my weight may not change an awful lot due to inflammation and other varying factors which come with weight training. But I’d understand if I could see a change in my body composition. I see people losing in the same amount of time as me 10+ kgs and a total change in body composition so what is it that I’m doing wrong?
I’m close to calling the doctors at this rate. Not close enough to start injecting myself with Ozempic or whatever it’s called though.

I am only a junior so I have a long way to go. Genuinely, please chance me. I know people with better stats than me and get rejected hardcore. My AP scores are lacking big time so I am studying hard to hopefully get all 5s. Similarly for my Awards, does anybody have any advice to receive awards that are computer science base? Because all of them that I find are coding competitions and unfortunately i suck at those (trauma from 9th grade USACO training). Also, ik the SAT is weighted much more from the past years as TO applicants rise so having a good score makes your stand out more, that is my goal.
I will be deleting this post later today. Thank you.

2023.03.29 10:52 JoJo-Bizarre-1997 The forgotten powerhouse of North America

When people talk about CONCACAF region, they only remember two most prominent names: Mexico and the United States, though the former is far more prominent than the latter. Mexico is the biggest and most powerful of the CONCACAF, and it is, so far, the only country from this part to have won any major FIFA men's competition, both in under-17 World Cup and the defunct Confederations Cup, as well as the Olympics. The United States, on the other hand, is only emerging.
But what if I mention about another nation that is deemed as a forgotten powerhouse of North America that people may not realise? Well, in the case, the forgotten powerhouse is Costa Rica, the country in the middle of Central America.
Costa Rica's fascinating football rise is largely shielded by widespread ignorance toward this country. With only five million people, a quite small population, Costa Rica had quite been viewed irrelevant by football fans from across the world for a long time. The country's top league, the Primera Division, founded in 1921, was for a long time run in a part-time basis, despite widepsread support for football in the country.
However, when Velibor Milutinovic, the man who coached Mexico back in 1986 World Cup, was hired as coach of Costa Rica, the Central American nation's football fortunes began to improve. Costa Rica qualified for the 1990 FIFA World Cup, where they shocked everyone by defeating Scotland and Sweden to progress to the knockout stage in their just maiden appearance. Unfortunately, due to the amateur status of Costa Rican footballers, the team could not weaponise from the initial success and missed out the 1994 and 1998 tournaments.
After failing to qualify for the 1998 FIFA World Cup, Costa Rican football officials decided to go full professionalism with the establishment of UNAFUT) (Union de Clubes de Futbol) in 1999. Since then, Costa Rica has been consistent at qualifying for World Cups, missing only the 2010 edition because of the playoffs against Uruguay, and during that span, Costa Rica even reached the quarter-finals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup with an unthinkable performance, topping the group of death ahead of Uruguay, Italy and England - three former world champions, and only lost to the Netherlands on penalties. Though Costa Rica failed to repeat that feat in 2018 and 2022, the Costa Ricans nonetheless caused significant hardship to their opponents in process, such as Brazil's hard fought 2-0 win in 2018, or the shock win over eventual group winner Japan and their surprisingly strong resistance against Germany in 2022 edition, despite the backdrop left behind from its humiliating 0-7 loss to Spain.
In fact, Costa Rica today is widely recognised by fans as the only Central American national team that has the capability to compete against the likes of the best in the world, and the only Central American team that football giants have a significant worry to think of. When you can make Brazil, Germany and Argentina to even think of you, that mean you have become a recognisable face of the beautiful game.
I think both of us are left puzzled about how does Costa Rica, a small Central American nation with only 5 million inhabitants, manage to become so competitive, so capable of producing talented footballers each year, and, if we go a little romantic, somehow become the Croatia of the Americas, given the similarly small territorial size and small population between Costa Rica and the Balkan nation? What ingredients that trigger Costa Rica's football boom and its ability to produce talented footballers like Keylor Navas or Joel Campbell?

2023.03.29 10:30 aadha_taklu [E] MS Statistics at T54 vs MSBA at T20?

Hello everyone! I hope you are having a great day!
I am an international student in my late 20s from engineering background. I have an above-average mathematics background but lack programming skills, though I am already enrolled in a few courses and should become proficient before joining my masters. I am a quick learner and reasonably good at self-learning. Though I have some work experience, it is not in pure statistics or data analytics, so I consider myself a fresher in this field.
I feel that MS in Statistics is better suited to me than other popular programs like MSBA/MSDS. I applied to and got rejected from Statistics programs at Penn State, UIUC, Virginia Tech, Columbia, and Purdue, probably because of my poor grades in undergrad, where I was focused on extracurriculars and ignored studies. Since I started applying very late in this cycle and was initially overwhelmed by the process, I missed lots of other good statistics programs, hence I applied to a few MSDS/MSBA programs as well.
My foreseeable goal is to work as a Lead Statistician or Data Scientist at F100 company leading in this field, like various banks or the big 4 consulting firms or maybe even the tech industry a few years down the line. I have various offers but these are my top 3 at the moment -
IUB Statistics - Though not highly ranked at T54 (Statistics, USNews) or T170 (University rank), I am looking forward to the IUB Statistics program as I feel that I will be more comfortable with a math-heavy curriculum. The 2-year course duration, small batch size, and relatively reasonable tuition were a few other factors. Also, this program offers an option of a tuition waiver in the case of TA/ GA, so I was expecting to save some money and graduate with lesser debt. There is an IU Statistical Research Centre as well, where most students get the opportunity to pursue an internship and gain some sense of statistics in real-world applications, which is a plus. Also, this comment and a friend who is a postdoctoral researcher in Stats at the T10 Stats program has told me to join IUB and skip the MSBA programs.
UCLA MSBA - UCLA on the other hand is a T20 Uni and Anderson is a T15 (MBA) college. Their faculty also seems well qualified with good industry experience, and I think the quality of education should be world-class. One of their professors contributes to the R library and has one of the highest downloads as well; another one has really good papers published and has experience working with Uber on the Price-surge model. Primarily, I think my goal of pursuing quality education from the US will be fulfilled by the experience here. But this is all in my mind; kindly correct me if I am wrong. Also, this program is pretty expensive and won't make sense if I can't snag a $150k+ placement.
Goizueta/Emory MSBA - Goizueta is T20 (MBA) and Emory is T82 ranked Uni but doesn't seem anywhere close to UCLA Anderson from my experience till now and the MSBA program is pretty short at just 10 months. But their placement stats are pretty attractive, and they have offered a reasonable scholarship to me and promised a bit more in the next few weeks. So, this seems like a reasonable option just based on the placement/fee paid ratio.
Curriculum - IUB Stats vs UCLA MSBA vs Goizueta MSBA
Placement - Though not exactly apples-to-apples, I am bound to compare the average starting salaries of these programs. Both MSBA are under business schools and they seem to have a solid and dedicated career services cell and they take placement of their students seriously coz they have to publish them to attract more students the next year. There are various opportunities like Internship, Co-op programs or Monthly employer meets to ease the placement process. Also, the employer panel at UCLA is very impressive and covers a diverse range of sectors - Career Impact UCLA Anderson School of Management . The UCLA MSBA program mentions a $115,000 Avg Starting Salary, whereas the Goizueta MSBA program mentions a $100,000 Median Starting Salary. Both quote above 95% placements within 6 months of graduation on their webpage.
Whereas for IUB Stats, placements are not the priority and there is not much support from the dept and you have to undertake the whole process by yourself. I went through the alumni details on the IUB Statistics webpage, and it shows placement data of around 6 people for 2020, 6 for 2021 and 4 for 2022 batches for both the Master's programs, which seems less than 50% of the total batch strength. Also, there is no mention of remuneration anywhere.
According to the COL Calculator, a starting salary of $115k in LA is equivalent to $77K in Atlanta and $75k in Bloomington. This puts the $100k at Goizueta way higher than UCLA's $115k weirdly.
Fees and COL - I am expecting to spend less than $70k ($42K tuition) over 2 years at IUB Stats. If I become the TA/GA, I expect some further tuition waiver. The UCLA MSBA program should cost me around $110k ($70k tuition) for 15 months. I am yet to receive/expecting a scholarship award from them. The Goizueta MSBA program should cost $92k ($60k tuition after a $20k scholarship) for 10 months. The Goizueta team has promised more scholarships in the next few weeks.
I come from a lower-middle-class family and will be taking out huge loans to pay for all the programs. Though I am debt-averse, I don't mind going for a moderately expensive program, if the future career prospects outshine the cheaper one.
Opportunity and VISA - Since I am an international student and plan to stay in the US for the foreseeable future, work opportunities and my VISA matter a lot to me. Will there be any quantifiable difference in the opportunities I will get if I have one university on my resume over the other? How much will this affect my chances of getting an H1B visa sponsorship in the future?
Before anyone mentions that university/college doesn't matter at all, it did in my case. If I had not completed my undergrad at a Tier-1 institution, I would not be getting any offers, considering my 2.6 CGPA and a sizeable gap period.
Location - LA and Atlanta are Tier-1 cities and have excellent opportunities for personal growth and job search. Whereas, Bloomington is a college town and doesn't compare to the other two. LA has an atrocious COL, otoh. Haven't compared the crime rate yet, any insights are welcome.
Other offers - I don't expect you to know about every other program out there, but I'm sharing just for information.
MSBA - UC Irvine ($52k tuition after scholarship, 1 year), Case Western ($57k, 16 months), SMU Cox ($32k after scholarship, 10 months), UTDallas ($40k after scholarship, 2 years); Data Science - Vanderbilt ($107k, 2 years), Rice Uni ($67k after scholarship, 1.5 years), Notre Dame ($60k, 16 months); Data Analytics - Boston University MET ($62k, 1 year). I am still waiting for decision from ASU Statistics, NEU Analytics, UMCP MSBA, UCSD MSBA, UIUC Predictive Analytics.
I may seem confused to some people, because I am. Where MS Stats seems to be equipping me with excellent technical skills but placement scenario is uncertain, an MSBA seems to be exposing me to the world of business and placing at good positions with good brands with handsome remuneration but lacks the in-depth technical know-how, hence this has become difficult to decide between the two. Thank you for your time and for reading this wall of text. Any advice will be appreciated.

2023.03.29 09:45 f1newsbot Plans for new British-based F1 team revealed

Formula 1 is a funny (70-year) old business: For all its secrecy, very little remains secret for long.
The reason is simple: F1 is a global sport which ultimately relies on a small world centred around an arc running west from Silverstone (Aston Martin) to Brackley (Mercedes) and Banbury (Haas) to Enstone (Alpine) and Wantage (Williams) before heading south to Woking (McLaren) and east to Milton Keynes (Red Bull).
Virtually all players are on first-name terms, having variously crossed paths along the way and most are eager to whisper about their successes since they parted ways with Team A to join Team C, with B having been where they worked with XYZ.
If they don't spill the beans while at the local hardware shop on (non-race) weekends, their wives surely do so while awaiting the 4pm school bell…
Thus, no sooner had we revealed progress made to date by the four candidate teams - including the Saudi-backed Formula Equal hopeful - who plan to enter F1 by 2026 under the FIA's Expression of Interest process, than various sources divulged details about Hitech GP's nascent project.
What these sources collectively shared with RacingNews365 about progress made to date by what is code-named H26 is nothing short of astonishing.
Indeed, one of our sources indicated that so far advanced is the project that wind tunnel testing is already underway using the former Mercedes (50%) facility situated in Silverstone and currently used by that team's Mercedes Applied Science advanced engineering division.
All this makes sense as another source suggested that Hitech is focused on a Mercedes powertrain (PT) partnership, which could see Hitech replace the upwardly mobile Aston Martin Racing operation as the de facto Mercedes 'B' team.
Relations between Mercedes F1 CEO Toto Wolff and Aston owner Lawrence Stroll are said to have soured, a situation not aided by the Green Team's current form using the same PT.
H26's aerodynamic preparations are understood to be focusing on 2022/23 models to verify data ahead of release of the first 2026 regulations – due in June 2024 as per the FIA's International Sporting Code, which demands that regulations "which affect the balance of performance between automobiles" are formalised at least 18 months before the start of an applicable season.
Equally, H26 has commenced design of a F1 chassis based on known crash test and load factors, with side intrusion panel, deformable structure and a roll hoop design allegedly also in process.
According to a H26 team member, the plan is to ensure the team are ready to hit the ground running once (if?) the FIA grants the green light once the selection process is complete.
Target date is 30 June, although some deadlines, including the closing date for EoIs are said to have slipped, the latter from 30 April to 15 May, 2023.
Whatever, said team member was adamant H26 have lodged all registration formalities well ahead of deadline.
H26 is headed by Dave Greenwood, an ex-Ferrari performance engineer with widespread F1 and WEC experience, with Mark Smith, formerly with Renault, Red Bull Racing and Caterham, as Technical Director.
Keith Barclay (also ex-Renault/RBR) is Chief Designer, with James Knapton (various F1 teams) as Head of Vehicle Science. Such folk do not come cheap…
The eventual plan is for H26 to operate out of a purpose-built 40-acre campus in Bicester – for which planning permission is said to have been granted.
Until the facility is completed, the 60-head-strong H26 operation is working out of two units in Silverstone, namely Hitech's former F2/3 base which became vacant after the feeder series team moved into bespoke facilities in Silverstone. More hires are said to be imminent.
Hitech team principal Oliver Oakes (pictured above with George Russell in 2016), world karting champion in 2005, has long eyed a move to the big league, much as Jordan, Williams, McLaren and Stewart (now Red Bull) did: one formula at a time.
Hitech was originally funded by Dmitry Mazepin (below) father of one-time F1 driver Nikita; however, sources close to Oakes are adamant the two split, albeit on friendly terms, even before the Ukraine invasion.
This, of course, begs the questions: Where does the funding to sustain at least 60 highly qualified (and expensive engineers) for three years come from; how to fund the entire operation going forward until it washes its own face?
Wolff recently opined that it now costs about a billion bucks to get a team up and running until it qualifies for prize monies in its own right.
Oakes is said to have sourced the requisite backing – one of the backers listed on the team's website is an Emirati oil company – and, while suspicions abound as to the source(s) of Hitech's funding, forget not that the ultimate beneficiary owner(s) of Williams is also secret.
Yes, Dorilton Capital owns Williams, but who owns Dorilton?
When the BBC in late 2021 wrote in its Frank Williams obituary that Dorilton "is led by [Guernseyman] off-shore banker Peter de Putron" these references were removed post haste.
Too close to the truth or totally wide of the mark? Who knows, but the fact remains that the source of the Williams team's funding is secret.
Under the circumstances the FIA and F1 would be hard pushed to disqualify H26 on that basis.
This leaves the FIA/F1 with the unenviable task of sifting through four candidate teams – Andretti, Formula Equal, H26 and Panthera – all of whom have unique selling points, then decide which, if any, qualify for two vacant slots.
Consider this: two Middle East-linked teams, one with a 50/50 gender split and the other working its way up motorsport's team ladder, Andretti/Cadillac which ticks US boxes, plus Asia-linked Panthera.
Either way, at least two will have blown enormous sums of cash on their dream of entering F1…

2023.03.29 08:50 trippytrev420 feels like i’m all over the place. don’t know how to feel about it

23M here. here’s a bit of my backstory.
was at my old job at a pizza place from 2014-2022 and just left without saying anything (was one of the three employees there plus my boss/owner).
got my first car at 20 yo in 2021 and started doordashing. made good amount of money, was really proud of myself. stayed at my old job still. fell off though and became careless.
was jobless, carless and kinda just left everything behind for awhile because i was just trying to get out of my bubble.
i got a job in aug. 2022 at a warehouse. went back home and started to be more responsible. i’m possibly getting fired from my job soon due to attendance.
been applying at jobs all day and i have nothing to brag about. there’s nothing skillful i can really use to get a well paying job. no certificates, no licenses of any sort. just my diploma.
i think i want to get a higher education. i just don’t know what career path id want to take. is there a way to go to school to basically just learn while you decide? honestly through high school, i never had any motivation to go to school before, but i really don’t want to work dead end jobs my whole life. i want to be happy.
is going back to school even worth it? i figured if anything maybe somebody else could give me a different view or something.
TLDR: basically pretty sure i will be fired. was looking for new jobs. realized i’d rather have a career than jobs. i think school would be a good idea.

2023.03.29 08:48 fermentedyouth my newport academy experience. VERY long but important

All of this is how i remember it but i have memory loss/distorted memory after attending newport. This WILL be VERY LONG. I was admitted to newport academy in san Rafael, California. Its their location known as maoli. I was admitted on march 2 2022 and it was my first and only experience in a residential but i have 3 other (at that time) stays at mental hospital back in illinois (where i live).
I was admitted in the beginning of january of 2022 to a mental hospital and it was my 3rd time in the hospital so my counselor recommended residential. I didn't agree but then later on changed my mind. I was supposed to go to one in the area but was denied because i "set fires" (i do not and never have). My mom found newport by just googling residentials. I dont know how it came about because she set it all up but i had a interview at the end of january with them. I was accepted (i dont know if thats the right way to put it) except they didn't have an available bed. I was in php for a month and a half waiting to go in which i met a gorl that had just gotten back from a newport in a different state and she said she liked it so i had hope (she has now relapsed on nic and weed. I know because we are in touch). They assigned me to a location and changed it twice. With each time they changed the location i had to do another interview. When a bed was available i was given 24 hours to arrive or my spot would be given up.
I got there and did the paper work. I believe i chose the option that they could intervene which ever they felt suitable which i greatly regret. When i arrived there was 4 other girls. The house holds 6. I later found out that there was only 2 girls in the house for 2 weeks so i do not understand why there was no bed available. The other 2 girls arrived a day or 2 before me.
It wasn't horrible in the beginning but there was already a few things that bothered me. It was one specific lady in the beginning. She'd wake us up by blasting music and i didn't eat meat at the time so i asked her not to serve me meat which she didn't listen to. I have anger issues so the more she didn't listen the more mean about it i got to the point i was swearing her out. The people that were there with us all day were not trained for mental health. One being through a temp company. At somepoint i pushed down the toaster button with nothing in it and forgot about it in which the smoke alarms went off. No fire. Just burnt the crumbs. Tjey took the toaster from us. Remember this. Its important later. Ill use letters instead of whole names. My roommate was j. I talk in my sleep and obviously cant control it. She stopped sleeping in our room and slept on the couch which nome of the other people liked because thats where we hung out because we weren't allowed to be im eachothers room. She went to sleep around nine and wed stay up till 1-2 even tho lights out was 11. J told the staff i threatened her while i was sleeping and the staff yelled at me but the other people heard and defended me. Staff didn't apologize. We switched rooms because j was scared of me. Another time i needed a knife for cream cheese and as a joke i said i needed a really sharp one. J took it as i was going to use it on her. The other people took to throwing j's things out of the window. We weren't ever supervised. We had equine therapy and at somepoint i believe we tried to steal the barn cat. We figured out how to take the batteries out of the windows alarms, the pictures on the wall were canvas so we hid things behind them, we would cook our own food twice(?) A week so we were in the kitchen that was typically locked and stole bags of chocolate chips, sugar for tea, and food labels that we put all over the house, z1 (theres 2 zs) was level one so she was allowed to have an electric razor which we gave n an undercut with, we stole command strips from the therapy room to gang up our canvases, people took the staples out of the canvases, broke plastic and took the screws out of the vents to sh. We also used the screws and pen ink for stick and pokes, we had acupuncture and stole the needles to try to do piercings (not stiff enough. Thankfull gor that in the long run) we were actively refusing school on the daily. We would swear eachother and staff out (mostly staff) z2 had an eatting disorder and z1 would make comments about it. N would constantly get misgendered and dead named because he was trans (i would get deadnamed but i used all pronouns at the time). The teacher talked about how he would smoke weed and hed disrespect our boundaries. Our fitness instructor quite literally taught me how to punch someone correctly (swing with hips hit with knuckles 😋) one of our ccs, annie (i believe they were called ccs aka care coordinators) was always talking about her boyfriend. Our therapist was really good at reading us but was never in because she had a new born but the one time we met in person she told me i probably had a loose vagina 😐. Someone wiped there shit on the wall. N, z1, and a constantly made tea and theyd leave their sticky cups all around the house which meant we had no cups available ever. We had a group setion with a counselor over zoom in which she specifically asked me very personal questions (i believe it was about me getting raped but i dont remember too much). Wed go in eachothers rooms even tho we weren't allowed to and they tell us to get our and wed say no and that would be the end of it. We rearranged our rooms. We drew on the walls. We carved things into the dining room table. I had very specific med instructions which they didnt follow and at points they wouldnt give anyone their meds or try to give meds to someone it didn't beling to. N made a fake body to put in his bed and then came in mine and a's room and it worked for 2 nights. Theres probably more but ill move on.
The most tramuatic experience was my last day there which was march 16th. Only 2 weeks in. I was watching a youtube video on the tv and our fitness lady came in. I asked to finish the video and she responded by grabbing my wrist with one hand and prying the remote with the other. Obviously i was mad so i was yelling and cursing and she didn't like that because she was on some shit that she automatically deserved respect even for her bad actions because she was ex military. No one wanted to do fitness in the first place. I went to my room and closed the door. Kim, a cc, came and tried to reprimand me when i wanted to be alone. Shed leave and come back a few times in the span of a few minutes and id reclose the door. I put the bed infront of the door and she shoved the bed on my foot (which sprained my toe and now its deformed) and the hinge to the door fell out. She then blaimed me for destroying property and then i literally just slid it back in place. At this point they evacuated the other kids because they were saying i was a danger to myself, others, and destroying property but the real reason was because the other kids were arguing and defending me. I put my shoes on and grabbed my stuffed animal and just left. I made it probably half a mile down the street and the cops pulled up. I dont know if the cops were called before or after i left. They pulled the car infront of me and annie was behind me so i had left and right. Left was a fast pace road and right was a field with a with a hill on the other side. At this point i wasnt actively suicidal but i was in the beginning of a panic attack. (This is where it starts to get distorted) I made it halfway up the hill when i had officers pulling my ankles to get me to the ground. They said something about how i should get off the hill because of ticks and i told them i didn't care because i didnt want to live. (Not that i wanted to kms. Just that i didn't want to live) at this point i was crying and was in a full panic attack and this is when they got aggressive. I believe i had about 7 officers on me and dragging me down the hill and obviously i was fighting it cause im freaking out and no one wants to be in that situation. They got me to the bottom and hand cuffed me. They gave me the option to stand up and go to the car but i was basically paralized with fear and couldn't really talk. Cops treat the mentally ill like criminals. They carried me to the car and basically horizontally shoved me im the car but the whole time they were talking about ticks and seemed to care more about that then the fact they were hurting me. I was driven to a hospital and i dont remember in between details but somehow i made it from the field to an isolation room. The 2 cops that took me, like 2 nurses and 2 security guards came at me with a needle. Obviously i don't want to be drugged so im struggling. Im cuffed still so im trying to defend myself by biting. I never land a bite. im more or less just snapping at them. They leave, take the cuffs off and im screaming and banging on the glass because im in a paniced state, locked in a room, and dont know where im at. There is a single matress on the floor amd i take the sheets off and try to strangle myself. They come and stop me and take them. I then try again with the string of my mask and now they are saying im just doing it for attention/trying to get them to open the door. They come drug me again and take the mask. There was a water bottle on the floor do i poured the water on the floor and pushed it under the door (idk why tbh). I got very weak from 2 rounds of medication and gave up. I wasnt concious but could feel the coldness of the room on me. I was very cold. I woke up in a different room after being unconscious for about 16 hours and my mom was there. She took me home. They wanted to admit me to the mental unit there but somehow luck was on my side and they didnt. I was coverted in brusies and cuts for weeks after from the cops and the meds they gave me led to my dissociations to become extreme. Remember the toaster? Yeah they said i tried to burn the house down. They also accused me of threatening people and destroying property.
December of 2022 a contacted me on snapchat. I told her my snap while there and out of no where one day she remembered it. We talked about what happened after i left. The staff had told the kids that my mother lost custody of me and i basically belonged to the government now and that i was to stay in a mental facility till further notice and that i was physcotic. Even though it wasnt true it is against hippa. A told me that she had exchanged personal numbers with staff. She told me that z1 stole the teachers phone so everytime they went in and out of the building they were to be metal detected (the school was a seperate building of the house). She told me that kids continued to sh and z1 and her almost got in a fight because z1 was supply people with things to sh. A also told me that the girl i was replaced with they caught her masterbating multiple times. We had yoga pillows we took from the gym and i domt know what they hid in them but they hid something and after the phone incident they did really deep searches and found the things in them.
Honestly newport was wild and didn't even feel real. There was literally wild peacocks roaming the property. I have ptsd from all of it but mostly the cops. I get flash backs, cant get near a cop and cant get handcuffed without panicing (i used wear them for fun time wink wink. Now i cant). I dissociate horribly now. My memories dont feel like my own unless they were tramatic. I became addicted to sex and began using it as a form of sh like i did previously. I got addicted to weed and nic to cope. Ive since got over both but i wasnt sober at all from may 2022 to january 2023. Fuck you newport.

2023.03.29 06:03 mianhe-yyu Can stress really lead to weight gain?

I (18f) used to be much smaller in my freshman through junior years of high school. But this summer, leading up to my senior year, I have gained a significant amount of weight (almost 30 lbs), and my diet is the same, if not better, than it used to be. I have tried switching between birth control pills (which i use for my pcos), and I’ve tried diuretics, but I can’t lose weight. I am currently injured, so I can’t work out, and I’ve never really been one to work out. I have had a great deal of family issues and personal struggles recently and I don’t know if that’s related to my weight gain.
Is this a second puberty? Am I going to have to work out religiously after my injury heals? Or is all of this stress related?
I used to be 5’0, 120 pounds (~2021, early 2022) And now I am sitting at 150 pounds

Health advice for my fiancée TIA😊
Health advice
Hello all! First of all thank you so much to anyone who responds + I’d appreciate anyone’s advice, healthcare professionals or anyone who has maybe gone through a similar thing or has known someone who has.
I need some help to figure out what might be wrong physically with my fiancée.
He is a 30 year old man, for the past 4 years he has been progressing with pains in his body. It started out that his back would hurt him on his long commutes to work, but then with staying at home during Covid it progressed into his feet hurting, his hips, his back, his neck and shoulders. It’s like an aching pain in these areas that he has a hard time fixing or getting rid of, and he wakes up in pain.
He has seen a podiatrist, a chiropractor, and hip and back bone doc (not sure proper term lol) and has done multiple rounds of physical therapy with no diagnosis or change.
He stretches like 5 times a day and tries to be active at least an hour each day but has not seen that any of these things help much. He also recently got a physical and they told him everything looked good.
He’s finally going for some blood tests this week and to see a general practitioner. Can anyone offer any advice or health tips? It really brings him down mentally and I feel so bad that he suffers but I’m not sure what else to do.
Also for more info, he was a quarterback in high school football, then was into frisbee, and now he is a software engineer so he is on the computer and types a lot. He has a stand up desk and ergonomic everything..
Also we have also switched mattresses in this time about 3 times and that has not really changed anything.
Thanks so much in advance!

2023.03.29 05:11 kyrene520 Small spacing LED is a very promising product

Small spacing LED is a very promising product
https://www.xygledscreen.com/
It is expected that in the next five years, the compound growth rate of the market size of the small -distance LED screen will reach 110%, and the potential market space will be more than 100 billion yuan. This is exactly the original driving force of the small spacing LED market; as a rising star in the field of large screen display, the small spacing LED display screen has been entered into the application promotion period by 2025 after 2022, and it will start to enter the application promotion period by 2025. Essence
Therefore, the range of small -spacing LED display has also been widely used. At present, small -pitch LED screens are mainly used in the commercial field, such as corporate conference rooms, chairman's office, online video conferences, schools and education institutions. In the aspects of its high brightness, no seams, lightweight flexibility, and small installation space occupation, they are attracting them. Each time the customer is inquiring, the customer will require the small -pitch LED display as one of the schemes.
Small spacing LED display is a collective name for a whole set of high -end systems, and it is also equivalent to the summary of high -level commercial levels, including LED display systems, high -definition display control systems, and heat dissipation systems. The process requirements in the production process are also quite strict. The small spacing LED display is a substitute for the delicate picture quality, which has promoted the process of expanding the LED display to the indoor application field, and the market continues to heat up. The small spacing LED display is born in the air and defeated the large LCD screen. Compared with other display technologies, the small spacing LED display has a unique advantage in brightness, power consumption, life, and color in terms of brightness, power consumption, life, and color. Compared with LCD stitching, the characteristics of no seams can better meet the strict requirements of users on the overallness of the screen.
The small spacing LED display has attracted a lot of attention and developed rapidly since its appearance in the market. Sales have exceeded 200 million yuan in 2012. In 2013, it reached more than 800 million yuan, which turned four over 4. Technically, it continues to surpass. In 2012, the LED screen of P2.5 entered the market and opened the era of small spacing; in 2013, new products such as P2.0, P1.8, P1.5, P1.4, P1.2 were endless, and records continued to refresh In the context of 2022 P1.0, P0.8 and other smaller spacing products, they were also produced under the context of the "spacing" of the core technical indicators of small -distance products. The pursuit of smaller spacing products in 2025 will enter the display application. Essence
For the LED display industry, small spacing LED is a very promising product. This product can at least double the scale of the LED display industry, and at the same time bring unprecedented changes to the entire project to display the industry. In 2022, industry insiders have felt the violence of this "small spacing storm", and 2025 is a critical moment when small spacing changes from quantitative to qualitative changes. In the next three years, the "golden age" of the LED industry will have a market capacity of hundreds of billions of markets in the next five to ten years. With the further development of mergers and integration, "oligopoly" enterprises will soon appear.
For the LED display manufacturer, the temptation of small spacing is not impossible. The future LED display will also develop in the direction of small distances. Therefore, the investment cost research and development of small spacing will almost become the choice of each LED display manufacturer. ; In the display screen market in recent years, small distance high -definition large screens are undoubtedly the mainstream of the market. Several large -scale backbone companies in the industry have seized this blue ocean market in real time.

2023.03.29 05:08 ThrowRAfriendhelp13 Should I (21F) reach out to my former friend (24M)?

So I (21F) have met my former friend (24M) last year, we’ll call him Steven. Steven and I met in a mutual hobby in October of 2021 and continued to do that hobby together regularly all the way through August of 2022. We were really fast friends and we spent so much time together, seeing each other almost every day during that time period. We started hanging out outside of that hobby and I truly considered him one of my best friends. Now in March of 2022, a group of people sort of joined our group and we started hanging out with them as well. Steven knew all of them previously but I hadn’t met them before. The notable people are Jason (M23), Megan (F22), and her sister Michelle (F25). Jason and I actually had a lot more in common than Steven and I did but the three of us hung out as a trio quite a bit. Megan and Michelle and I also got along insanely well, and they are like my surrogate family now. Now in October of 2022, Megan, Michelle, and I planned a trip to a nearby big city that some of our friends lived in, this included Jason, who moved at the end of August, it’s about two hours from our hometown. We planned this a couple weeks in advance as a girls weekend and we were gonna get lunch with Jason while we were there, but he wasn’t a big part of the trip.
So on October 9, we were all at a party together while Jason was in town for the weekend. Some of our other friends were in town and Steven was in the living room with some of them while I was in the dining room with some of our other friends, Michelle, Megan, and Jason. We were all moving in and out of the rooms but this is where we were when Steven told us he as going home. This was earlier than he usually would leave something like this but I knew he had a long day and didn’t think anything of it. After I left the party, he sent me a message asking if he could talk to me about our friendship and I went over to his house to talk it out. He told me that he thought something “really shitty” was happening at that party and he had heard all about my “big plans that didn’t include him.” He was referring to the upcoming girls trip and was mad he wasn’t invited. I explained to him that no one was invited, we just made plans together and that is was a girls trip just the three of us but that there will always be more day trips and not to worry about this one, we’ll find something we can do all four of us. He just sort of shrugged me off and we went back and forth but it wasn’t getting anywhere and I eventually went home.
Now on October 22, we were all invited to our mutual friend’s birthday party, a big thing 20+ people and it was really fun. Some of our friends travelled far to make it for the weekend so I was spending a lot of time with them and Michelle, Megan, Jason, and I got dinner with them the next day because they have all known each other since high school. The day after we got dinner, Steven FaceTimed me and started chewing me out for going out with them and not inviting him. Now I hadn’t planned this, I had just been invited and it wasn’t my place to invite more people. I told him this and he said he just didn’t understand it. He’s known all of these people for 5+ years and I’ve just met them, and that “if anything they should be thanking [him] because [he] introduced them to [me].” He ranted for a bit longer and then told me that he doesn’t “get why anyone would want to be friends with me.” I ended the conversation after that comment. I’ve been really honest with him about having trouble with bully’s and not having a very easy go at making friends in my youth and that causing me a lot of anxiety later in life. So it really hurt me when he said that, and he should know that.
We didn’t really talk after that and we are civil when we see each other because we still run in similar circles. I explained what happened to our friends at the time and most of them took my side but I wasn’t really looking for sides to me taken. He’s gotten into arguments with the rest of our friend group, idk the details of all of them but now he’s just not really friends with our larger group. I feel bad because the argument with me was the catalyst for all this and a lot of the things said were moments of anger and I’m not sure if he really meant everything in such a hurtful way. He’ll post cryptic things online about knowing who your real friends are and not letting snakes sneak in and I know it’s about me. He hasn’t apologized or even tried to reach out since but I can’t help but thinking that a lot of what’s going on is my fault. He’s known them for such a long time and they weren’t close before we all started hanging out but now they don’t even talk. And I can’t help but think that if I had just invited him to those things this never would have happened.
So should I reach out to him? He’s been posting about how he is really lonely and it feels like it’s all my fault.

2023.03.29 05:05 lesgens Ways to increase progesterone?

There's a lot of background but I promise I eventually get to the point. I was diagnosed with PCOS at 16 (~11 years ago) after a cyst rupture. My OB/GYN put me on birth control at that time because she said it would prevent that from happening again and I was desperate because that was the worst pain I ever experienced. Fast forward about 6 years, I went off birth control at 22 in 2017 because I wanted my body to figure itself out. I was already with my now-husband at that point and figured my chances of conception were low and we would figure it out if something happened. I had a CP in December 2020 so I knew getting pregnant was possible even though I wasn't ready to be a mom then. But I was in a high stress time of life then (wedding planning/rescheduling, COVID, in grad school and unemployed, about to buy a house, etc.) so I went back on bc until April 2022 to prevent another accident.
Here we are now, I'm more knowledgeable about PCOS and specifically how my body manifests it. I've been TTC actively since November when my period came back after going off bc last Spring. I use the Mira tracker and with acupuncture/supplements/diet and exercise changes I've had 30-35 day cycles since January of this year which is exciting but I'm not sure if I'm ovulating. Mira gives numerical values for LH, Estrogen, and PdG which is helpful, but disheartening. I don't think I've had a luteal phase (post-LH peak) PdG reading at the 7-10 day mark above 11 or 12 ng/ml in any of my cycles--enough to theoretically confirm ovulation but they're never sustained for more than a day so I'm not sure. In Jan and Feb I also got a lot of mid-cycle spotting which confirms the wonky PdG levels, and I test every other day and don't seem to have multiple LH peaks.
Low progesterone could explain my CP from a few years ago and I'm afraid it would lead to more losses if I conceive again. I have my first RE visit for testing with my husband at the end of April, and I'm mostly concerned they'll give me Let or Clomid without actually working to fix my progesterone levels. I want to have a child, of course, but I'm more interested in ensuring my body is functioning properly on its own and not just forcing it to ovulate for the sake of conception. I'm not opposed to medication when it makes sense, but at this point I'm tired of doctors pushing me to suppress my symptoms in service of a particular goal instead of managing them for sustained wellbeing.
Which is why I'm here now! What supplements or other tools helped raise your progesterone levels? I'm already taking Vitex, Inositol, NAC, prenatal, Magnesium, Vit D, and an herbal tincture. I do LISS cardio and weights 3-4 times a week, I don't eat strictly low carb but stick to whole foods and avoid wheat/dairy, get decent sleep, etc. Thanks for reading <3

2023.03.29 04:45 its_vf Inside the rebuilding of Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti and his emotional return to football

https://www.codesports.com.au/afl/inside-the-rebuilding-of-anthony-mcdonaldtipungwuti-and-his-emotional-return-to-football/news-story/a8d2deb2f7ebeb5dc07863bc4351e753
It was meant to be a beer and pizza night for two mates – retired Bombers Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti and Patrick Ambrose – catching up for the first time in months. But it turned out to be the first step on one of the AFL’s most emotional 2023 comeback stories.
McDonald-Tipungwuti was in the middle of a camping trip full of self discovery and cultural connection around Australia.
Far from the madding MCG crowds, he hit the road with his ute, his caravan, his blue heeler, Drover, and at times his mum Jane, and took in Alice Springs, Darwin, Katherine, Broome and his childhood home on the Tiwi Islands.
On this mid-September 2022 night he was over in Perth catching up with his former teammate Ambrose, who had retired from the Bombers in late 2021.
McDonald-Tipungwuti reluctantly pulled the pin on his career in May 2022, just after his 29th birthday, having lost his spark and passion for the game after a few personal challenges and a series of injuries and fitness issues.
The two agreed to have a few beers, share some pizza and sit back in Ambrose’s loungeroom and watch one of the AFL finals matches.
As Ambrose recalled this week: “We walked down to get a pizza near my house and one of my neighbours is a mad footy fan. He was saying to Walla (McDonald-Tipungwuti), ‘You are too good to retire mate, what are you doing?’ Walla only had one slice (of pizza) when he usually would have had a bit more. I was having a beer and usually he would never turn down a cold beer. But he wouldn’t have a beer that night.
“We were watching the footy. Walla was watching it so closely that I had the feeling he was planning something.”
By the end of the night, McDonald-Tipungwuti confessed to Ambrose: “Yep, I’m going to make a comeback.”
Six months on, Ambrose was sitting in the same spot in his lounge room during round 1 watching from afar as McDonald-Tipungwuti brought the red and black faithful to its collective feet again at the MCG.
In his first AFL game in almost 600 days, he came on as Essendon’s sub and kicked what will be one of the most emotional goals this AFL season. “It was awesome,” Ambrose said. “He has definitely come a long way in a short time.”
Just like his outback adventure in the second half of last year, McDonald-Tipungwuti’s return to football hasn’t been an easy road.
He has worked hard to get himself back into the AFL system, even if insiders maintain he still has a significant pathway ahead to become a match-fit contributor regularly.
Despite already losing six or seven kilos, he knows he needs to lose more. Quad soreness meant he wasn’t able to back it up against Gold Coast last week.
The club is unsure when he will be right to go again, but has backed him and the conditioning staff to keep doing the work to ensure he is back as soon as possible.
As Essendon general manager of football Josh Mahoney said this week: “He still has got a valuable career ahead of him if he keeps doing the work, not only as a player (for Essendon) but also as a role model for other players.”

RETIREMENT

FOR Dyson Heppell, the measure of McDonald-Tipungwuti’s happiness has always been his cheeky smile. When it beams, he’s at his best.
It’s been that way since the pair were Gippsland Power teammates in 2010, dreaming of what the game might one day do for them.
“He was always bouncing around with a smile on his face,” Heppell said of the young McDonald-Tipungwuti, who arrived in Melbourne from the Tiwi Islands as a teenager.
So, when Heppell watched first-hand Walla’s cheeky grin vanish in the early stages of last year, he knew there was a problem.
As McDonald-Tipungwuti wrestled with his future last May, he stayed a few nights at Mahoney’s house. “He had lost the passion for training and for trying to work his way back, and it is such a hard game when that happens,” Mahoney said.
“The night before it all happened, we had gone for a walk and we talked through a lot of things.”
Mahoney arrived home from the Bombers’ Tullamarine base the following day to find McDonald-Tipungwuti seated at the kitchen table waiting for him.
“He was sitting there and said that he wanted to have a chat,” Mahoney said. “It was sudden, but it got to the stage where it was the right decision for Anthony to step away from the game.”
An emotional McDonald-Tipungwuti publicly retired the following day in a tearful address to his teammates.
When his facade broke and the tears began to flow, he was consoled by his then skipper Heppell.
His career looked like being stuck forever on 126 AFL games and 153 goals, with a highlight reel of run down tackles and instinctive goals almost the parting gift for the fans.
“It probably didn’t cross my mind at that time that he would ever be back,” Heppell said.
Ambrose agreed: “I could tell he was burnt out … he needed to somehow get the fire back.”

ROAD BACK TO FOOTY

SOMETIMES the best way to find yourself is to hit the road and reconnect with your past.
McDonald-Tipungwuti packed his car and left on a road trip around Australia that took in indigenous communities, meeting and connecting with elders and friends, learning about his past and preparing for his future. He didn’t expect the road would lead him back to AFL football.
But those close to him insist he would never have played AFL game No.127 without the lessons of that road trip.
“He was doing a big lap of Australia with (his dog) Drover and his mum,” Ambrose said.
McDonald-Tipungwuti has spoken recently about what the trip around Australia meant to him and how he was able to find himself.
Wherever he went, the message was the same as the one that Ambrose’s neighbour gave him – at his best he was too good not to have another crack at AFL football.
As Essendon’s post-season was mired in controversy and change, the whispers started to reach his former teammates that Walla was reconsidering his future.
Heppell sent him a few text messages to try and “sniff” out an answer.
“He is pretty limited in his text (responses), he doesn’t like to give away too much,” Heppell said. “You are sometimes lucky to get one back from him.”
There was also another possible suitor in Fremantle.
Dockers coach Justin Longmuir had liked one of his Instagram posts, a connection which led to an informal meeting.
But the pull of Essendon was strong, and the plan offered up by the Bombers new coach Brad Scott was too good to knock back.
There were no guarantees but the communication lines were open.
“There were different people (at Essendon) keeping in contact with him in different ways,” Mahoney said. “But it wasn’t until he got back (to Melbourne) that he started to talk a bit more about the potential of playing football again.
“Brad had been appointed coach at that stage and was keen to talk to him and to see if there was any chance he would consider coming back to Essendon.”
The Bombers were prepared to offer him a spot on the list, a one year deal on limited figures, with the AFL open to allowing McDonald-Tipungwuti to return to Essendon.
Mahoney added: “The meeting with Brad was as much about the new coach wanting to understand where Anthony was coming from, his background, his decision making and Brad explaining to him how he was going to coach him, and what he wanted from him.”

‘HE BLEW UP PRETTY QUICKLY‘’

HEPPELL didn’t know what to expect … but was pleasantly surprised when McDonald-Tipungwuti turned up to his first training session in November last year two weeks earlier than expected.
And, while he was still in sore need of shedding some kilos, he threw himself into it from the first Monday he turned up and completed a tough Friday running session that week.
“He blew up pretty quickly,” Heppell said. “I expected that to be the case, but he loved it.
“He was out there with the boys, chatting with them. It was like us saying to him, ‘Mate, we don’t expect you to be flying overnight. But you need to keep training and keep up the consistency of training’ – and that’s what he has done.”
Scott and the Bombers ensured Tipungwuti wouldn’t be left on his own as he worked slowly – and sometimes painfully – to improve a fitness base that was a long way off AFL standards.
Heppell maintained he needed a football in his hands and to be around his teammates.
“It was a conscious decision made by Brad and the high performance staff that allowed him to not miss a session that we wanted him to do through the pre-season,” Mahoney said.
“The decision was made that he would do all the fitness drills (with a footy in his hands).”
The Bombers know he has a fair way to go – and must keep on top of his dietary issues – if he wants to turn one comeback game into a sustained run of matches.
Incremental gains have been important, with Heppell saying one moment at the tail end of the season convinced him of Walla’s intent.
“He has been smashing sessions off the back of training by himself, to try to drop that weight and get himself in better nick,” Heppell said.
“Usually, you have to push him through the door and help him do it. He would be trying to dodge that extra session wherever he could, with his cheeky smile.
“For me, there was a moment that showed a different side to him. I had a crook foot and was cross training by myself. He was watching what I was doing and he jumped into my session off the back of his own. He wouldn’t have done that in the past.”

THE MOMENT, THE FUTURE

McDonald-Tipungwuti never believed he could have played in round 1, let alone score an emotional last-quarter goal in the Bombers’ big win over Hawthorn.
But he got there … just.
It was a risk, given it would have been a stretch for him to play a full game if a teammate went down with a first-term injury. But the Bombers were prepared to take it.
Heppell didn’t even know he was coming on the field, until he heard the roar of the crowd.
The red and black faithful knew it was a significant moment. The connection between McDonald-Tipungwuti and Essendon fans has always been tight.
That’s partly because of his backstory as the kid from the Tiwi Islands who overcame a tough start to life before making his mark in the AFL.
No one knows how long this comeback story will run for, but the fact that he is smiling again is the most important part, according to those closest to him.
