2023.03.30 20:27 dummythicccx Hi there clinical research people, I have some questions.

I am a 25yo male that works as a CRC in genetics for a “smaller” hospital system. I am the only CRC that works in my dept and was hired specifically for a physician so I can do all the investigator initiated trials. I have been here for almost a year and have been thinking about leaving due to a number of reasons being from I’m kinda bored to I think my manager does not like me. I am getting a masters in clinical research administration. My questions are: 1) How long do CRO’s like to see you stay in one spot? (I moved here for my wife and we will be bouncing around a little bit for the next couple years) 2) When you’re a CRA do you basically only do your job and then go back to the hotel for the rest of the day or do you have time to do other things? 3) Which CRO’s would you recommend that have flexibility and decent pay? 4) Does a Master’s degree in clinical research actually mean much on the market? 5) Is being a CRA basically a life sentence as a CRA or where do you go from there? 6) What other options are there except staying a CRC or becoming a CRA Thanks for anybody that reply’s, I appreciate the feedback from research pro’s like yourselves!

2023.03.30 20:27 bmb102 Stock Issues.

Anyone else deal with people not understanding how to purchase the proper stock for a job to make the parts as efficiently as possible? I have a stack of prints for parts to be machined and customer supplied material. They all require milling a contour around the entire part, except they gave me stock that is already to size on the thickness. So instead of putting it in my vise, cutting the contour, drilling and tapping a few holes, cutting some jaws, flip and deck off the back side, I have to come up with 8 different fixtures to bolt it down so that I can machine the contours. Fucking headache and a half and a job that should take maybe 2 days will not be over a week.

THE SINS OF OUR FATHERS - A DDMA WHAT-IF? STORY
Chapter 3: The Truth

\November 7th, 2017. Salvato High School, around 11:15 AM.\**
In terms of coming up with incredible art, and figuring out great ideas to put on paper, Itsuki Mirai was one of the best. Even as a child, he was always eager to grab a piece of paper and some crayons, and go to town with it. And as he grew older and older, his affinity and skill in the craft grew as well. By High School, it was clear the boy had a bright future with the art world if he kept this up.
However, even those with incredible talent can have moments where those great ideas and skills aren’t up to snuff. Maybe it’s because they’re feeling sick, or that what they’re working on isn’t giving them that same passion and drive as other projects they’ve done before. And in Itsuki’s current case, it was due to being distracted by the thoughts in his mind.
Granted, he tried to power through and come up with something as he doodled in his red sketchbook at his desk, set near the back of Mr. Amari’s classroom. He even tried looking around the room for something that might inspire him, like the small fridge at the teacher’s desk, which had some Star Wars stickers on it.
There was also an old record player on a shelf behind Itsuki at the back of the room. Though, he never heard it play a single tune throughout his time in High School, due to it being broken. And when looking back to the front of the room, he took notice of Mr. Amari taking sips of Coffee from his Wild E. Coyote cup while looking over stuff on his computer at his desk.
Honestly, Itsuki always found Amari’s classroom quite comfortable, ever since he first walked in here as a Freshman. In fact, Kiyoshi Amari was almost like the father he never really got, and many of the other students held him in high regard. He was kind, relaxed, and fun to talk with, while also being passionate and fair when it came to his duties as a Math teacher.
Yet…despite all that, Itsuki hasn’t bothered moving the pencil in his right hand across the paper much. Every time he starts to make something, he decides to erase it and start over. It was a tedious and annoying process, and the redhead wasn’t happy with any of it at all. In fact, many of the students could tell he was having a bit of trouble.
So much so that Mr. Amari decided to get out of his desk and walk towards the boy, feeling a bit concerned. And once he gets there, Itsuki looks up at him with a despondent expression on his face. The redhead takes note of the teacher’s brown sweater and blue jeans, alongside his black shoes and the wrist watch on his right hand.
While it’s a common look for him, it definitely shows what Mr. Amari is all about. Professional, but comfortable. Plus, his brown hair that’s starting to turn white due to old age is also eye-catching, alongside his blueish-purple eyes. And his figure is quite skinny as well. Though, he still has a pretty good diet, despite looking like skin and bones sometimes. Regardless, the teacher asks what’s going on with the young Mr. Mirai, hoping to cheer him up a bit.
Amari: “Everything going well today, Mirai?”
Itsuki: “Eh…it’s just one of those days for me…”
Amari: “I getcha. That artist brain of yours can’t always work at 100% efficiency.”
Itsuki: “Mm. I wish it could, but…we don’t always get what we want.”
Noticing Itsuki’s more downcast tone of voice, Amari decides to press a little more about what his student is dealing with.
Amari: “Something tells me it’s a little more than artist block.”
Amari: “Would it be okay if you told me what’s wrong?”
Itsuki: “...Sure. I don’t see why not.”
Setting the pencil down, Itsuki sighs and tells Amari what’s on his mind.
Itsuki: “So, you remember all the crap that’s been going on with me and Natsuki, right?”
Amari: “Indeed. She keeps pushing you away when you get too close and all that?”
Itsuki: “Yes. But she was absent for the Culture Festival, despite how much we needed her for the Poetry Recital in the Literature Club.”
Itsuki: “However, when I tried texting or calling her, she never responded.”
Amari: “Really? Not even during the weekend? Or yesterday?”
Itsuki: “Nope. But I DID see her peeking out the window of the clubroom doors, and confronted her.”
Itsuki: “She said her aunt had a stroke, and that’s what kept her from showing up.”
Itsuki: “Yet…she never told me ANYTHING about having an aunt. So I’m willing to believe that it’s either a subject she kept hidden for a good reason, or it was entirely made up.”
Amari: “Huh…strange…did you call her out at all?”
Itsuki: “No. I could tell she wasn’t feeling too great, and she didn’t want to see everyone else at the time.”
Itsuki: “In fact…she looked like she was…”
Itsuki: “...Afraid of something.”
Itsuki: “And it definitely didn’t look like the fear of loss…”
Itsuki’s suspicion is clearly shown through his facial expression. And while Amari keeps a calm and still look on his face, he’s definitely feeling suspicious about this situation too.
Amari: “Are you certain of your ideas?”
Itsuki: “Well, considering how many times she’s lied to me, I don’t have much reason to NOT believe something is up.”
Itsuki: “I just hope she gives me a clear answer today.”
Amari: “So you’re gonna talk to her? Don’t you think you should give her some time to think about it first?”
Itsuki: “Maybe. But I think she was considering the idea of telling me when I saw her yesterday.”
Itsuki: “Besides, I’m done with her constant dishonesty.”
After those words are spoken, Amari shows a bit of concern on his face. Then, he takes a deep breath, and regains a bit of his composure before speaking.
Amari: “Let me tell you this, Itsuki.”
Amari: “When it comes to confronting your loved ones about their troubles or honesty, it can get quite messy.”
Amari: “One could call it a delicate process. Very easy to make a mistake, if you’re not careful.”
Amari: “Hence, I want you to be mindful of how you go about this.”
Amari: “Just because Natsuki’s someone you care a lot about, and she’s having some issues doesn’t mean she automatically owes you any kind of answer.”
Itsuki: “Sure, but…if my loved ones are having a tough time, then shouldn’t it make sense that I step in and do whatever I can in order to help them?”
Amari: “To an extent, yes. But that doesn’t give you the right to barge into their problems and act like a hero.”
Amari: “Some things can’t be so easily solved with a few kind words. And especially not with punches or kicks.”
Amari: “Though, I will say it’s not good to lie to those you care about. Especially if it’s frequent.”
Amari: “However, depending on what they deal with, they might have some justified reasons for not saying anything.”
Amari: “Like, they fear others might get hurt by it, or do rash things because of it.”
Amari: “And while I know you’re pretty level-headed for the most part, even people like you aren’t unlikely to snap under stress.”
Amari: “So, you can’t be too pushy or too distant. You need a good balance of both to make it work.”
Amari: “But…I’m certain you’ll find a way to make things right at the end.”
Amari: “All I can tell you is good luck, and to keep my advice in mind.”
While Itsuki still doesn’t look too happy, he does seem to be a bit better as he has a small smile on his face.
Itsuki: “I will. Thank you, Amari. I appreciate it.”
Amari: “Don’t mention it. Anything to help a student.”
Amari: “Now, hopefully, you’ll finally be free to draw something cool like always!”
Itsuki: “Heh. Probably not. But here’s hoping.”
Amari chuckles a bit, before heading over to another student in the room, leaving Itsuki to continue his doodling. As he expected, he doesn’t get much done in terms of “Drawing something cool.” But he’s at least able to better think about what’s going on with Natsuki, and how to handle it. In fact, he’s starting to think if he IS being too pushy with this matter.
Granted, he had no plans of letting Natsuki off easy for constantly putting up fronts with him, but at the same time, she must have a good reason for doing so, right? And how WOULD Itsuki react if he found out the truth? It could be so much worse than whatever ideas he has in mind. What if…in order to deal with Natsuki’s problem…he ended up going too far?
Thinking about that heavy thought, Itsuki takes an annoyed sigh, recognizing just how much more complicated this issue is. Luckily, he has plenty of time to figure out how to go about everything. So, for now, he just hopes for the best.

2023.03.30 20:25 Hoehoehoehoehoehoe Visiting Paris from 3rd to 6th April - Will using public transport or visiting the Louvre even be possible?

Bonjour! My boyfriend and I planned our Paris trip for a long time but with the strikes being pretty present (as they should!) right now we are just a bit worried that we won't be able to a) even reach city center (our hotel is in Bercy) and b) be able to visit the sites we booked/looked up.
Can anyone share their recent experiences or can a Parisian give us some insight on how to avoid any issues when visiting next week?
Thanks a lot!

2023.03.30 20:24 Okidoky123 Ridiculous good productivity

Is it just me, or is the Kotlin and IntelliJ combination making us far more productive than with any other language / IDE combination?
I've been coding since the 80s. I've seen a ton of stuff, and I've worked with a number of languages. In the past, there was always a struggle to keep designs neat and tight and efficient. I feel like I'm doing this far more effectively using Kotlin now than with anything else before. There's just something about how the efficiency about about handling nulls, functions with assignments, operators, iterating, lambdas, extensions, infix, how file names don't have to tie into class names, functions outside classes without static, and a bunch of other things. Some of these features other language have also, but it seems to me that Kotlin does them better and has more of them. Resulting code is quite a bit smaller than Java, and given it can be made less verbose, while at first you might think "oh boy, more complex puzzling syntax, like Scala", it's not so. Once you get good at it, you'll have no trouble interpreting your previously written code.Java feels really antiquated now.I feel that even if I was forced to produce Java, that for the prototype stage I might still do it in Kotlin, then sell the idea of "we can always convert to Java later if need be", and if it's a no go, I'll translate late. Total delivery time is shorter having done all the pioneering in Kotlin. For this reason, it would be nice if there were a better Kotlin->Java translator. Something that doesn't inhale a whole whack load of gobbledegook.
Now, it's not perfect. How companion objects are done I find a bit bleh. Embedded class deriving (eg. object : JTable() { override...) could be neater. But they're not deal breakers at all.
Anyway, I'm pretty excited that we have this now. This really ought to not be associated with just "Android". This isn't about Android at all. In fact, I haven't been coding Android apps at all. It's all been standalone applications and utilities, and client/server stuff.
The industry really needs to pay closer attention here. If I were competing with you and I were doing it in Kotlin and you were in Java, then you would get into trouble, because I would produce nicer better quality results and I'd do it much faster than you.

2023.03.30 20:24 wishfulllkiki LG Inverter Direct Drive Washer/Dryer combo won’t drain water properly

I have a washer / dryer combo and I’ve never had one before, and also never had this extreme of a problem. When I run a wash and dry cycle, it stops right after the wash cycle and won’t drain any of the water. I have to manually drain the water in the bottom for it to start draining/ dry cycle. I’ve never had this problem with it, usually I just have to put in small loads for it to wash efficiently. So my question is how would I go about trying to fix this if anyone has any info / advice, I would greatly appreciate it as it takes like two hours to wash a load right now.

2023.03.30 20:24 LordBlackout Taming = Tomodachi + Skilling Alts + Pokémon

Taming's greatest potential is not just being one thing, but an umbrella of at least several. Here are a few ideas:
Tomodachi: - Pretty much like the current suggestion (don't really care to take care of a virtual pet personally)
Skilling Alts (an alternative): - Pets alternative to alt accounts for efficient skilling - Still high effort for high reward - Buyables (like fletching) get efficient alternative using pets so that GP alts are no longer needed for efficient grinding - Does not "devalue" any skills (not an xp or ezscape update) - Integrates Taming into skilling cleanly by providing an alternative to alt-scape - Low xp enough not to be a fast way to train Taming - Access to "efficiency pets" would not be locked behind a high Taming level
Competitive Battling (Pokémon)** - Competitive ELO system - Existing PvM/Skilling pets illegal for competitive (like legendaries), so are not "devalued" -- but can be used in battle outside of competitive play - Duel Arena -> pet Duel Arena (where ELO battles are played) -- can also play outside of DA basically anywhere (can make for a nice public spectacle/distraction/diversion) - ELO capes - Tournament potential (without server issues being an impediememt) - Streaming content - Particular pets require you to have a higher Taming level than others for them to listen/fight for you in battle -- Tier system: --- OU (Overused (the primary competitive meta)) - lvl 80* Taming --- UU (Underused) - lvl 60* Taming --- RU (Rarelyused) - lvl 40* Taming --- NU (Neverused) - lvl 20* Taming *= these could just be the average level for pets in that tier, rather than a just a fixed level - Taming xp increases with leveling up pets via combat training (either against NPCs or in battles)
Taming can easily integrate itself into the larger game and without infringing negatively on existing metas, and this can be achieved by developing Taming as a category umbrella skill much like Combat skills (PvM, PvP, Questing, Teleportation, etc...).

2023.03.30 20:23 Material_Trainer_ A Deep Dive into Hedera's Unique Crypto-Technology: Exploring the Technical Foundations of HBAR

Hedera Hashgraph, the company behind the innovative HBAR cryptocurrency, has introduced a unique distributed ledger technology (DLT) that has the potential to disrupt the blockchain landscape. In this post, we will take a closer look at the technical aspects of Hedera's crypto-technology, focusing on its consensus algorithm, network architecture, and potential use cases.
Hedera's Hashgraph consensus algorithm sets it apart from traditional blockchain technology. Unlike blockchains that rely on Proof of Work (PoW) or Proof of Stake (PoS) mechanisms, Hashgraph uses a gossip-about-gossip protocol combined with virtual voting to achieve consensus rapidly and securely. This approach allows for:
a. High Throughput: The Hashgraph algorithm enables the network to handle thousands of transactions per second (tps), significantly outperforming traditional blockchain networks.
b. Low Latency: Transactions on the Hedera network are confirmed within seconds, ensuring near-instant finality and preventing double-spending or forks.
c. Asynchronous Byzantine Fault Tolerance (aBFT): The Hashgraph consensus is aBFT, providing a high level of security and resilience against malicious actors and network failures.
Hedera's network architecture consists of multiple nodes distributed across various geographic locations, industries, and organizations. This decentralized structure ensures that no single entity has control over the network, promoting fairness and reducing the risk of censorship or manipulation.
Key components of the Hedera network include:
a. Hedera Consensus Service (HCS): The HCS enables developers to build secure and scalable applications on top of the Hedera network. The HCS provides a decentralized ordering of transactions, offering a reliable foundation for various use cases.
b. Hedera Token Service (HTS): The HTS allows users to create and manage custom tokens on the Hedera network. The service supports fungible tokens (such as cryptocurrencies) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for a wide range of applications.
Hedera's unique crypto-technology offers numerous potential use cases across different industries. Some notable examples include:
a. Micropayments: Hedera's low transaction fees and fast processing times make HBAR an ideal solution for micropayments, enabling frictionless transactions for digital content and pay-per-use services.
b. Supply Chain Management: The secure, transparent, and efficient ledger technology provided by Hedera can streamline complex supply chain processes, improving traceability and reducing fraud.
c. Decentralized Finance (DeFi): The fast and secure network of Hedera allows for the development of various DeFi applications, such as lending platforms, stablecoins, and decentralized exchanges.
Hedera Hashgraph's unique crypto-technology, underpinned by its innovative consensus algorithm and decentralized network architecture, sets it apart from traditional blockchain solutions. The potential use cases for Hedera's technology are vast and diverse, making it a promising contender in the blockchain space. As Hedera continues to gain traction and its ecosystem expands, it's clear that this groundbreaking technology has the potential to transform the way we interact with digital networks and financial services.

2023.03.30 20:23 puntloos Timelapse workflow for merging construction shots

With the litchi app, I've flown my drone every week past exactly the same waypoints around the house.
What I want to do is to align a LARGE amount of these 3 minute videos next to each other and then fade between them moving forward in time - which looks like the house is being built up while the drone is flying.
Something in this fashion
My question: What workflow points should I do in Davinci to make this happen:
1/ My videos currently are synchronised to a moment where the drone flies over a particular point, but waypoint flights are messy, you certainly cannot depend on alignment in time and exact location the further along you get -> Will need to somehow align the intended cutover point as exactly as possible -> *How do I put all these videos in exactly the right overlap, it'll probably be 100ish videos - can davinci hold these in a single timeline?
2/ Every flight I pre-cook and cut the result video to start at that same point over the hedge, and then put it on my server. Can Davinci monitor that folder and import any new files?
3/ If I'm feeling silly I might want to sync the cutover points with an audio track. Is there some clever way to make that work easily?
Any further tips or guides on how to do this elegantly and efficiently would be appreciated. I'm sure it's doable with 5 videos but once you hit 100 I imagine it will start to go really slow..

2023.03.30 20:22 Total-Fruit Staying in Soller during Es Firo?

Hi there! My boyfriend and I are visiting Mallorca in May, and booked a hotel in the town of Soller from May 13-16. The hotel owners just messaged us to let us know that the Es Firo festival would be happening during our stay, and that there may be a lot of noise and music during that time.
Is it a bad idea to stay in Soller during this weekend? We don't mind fun music or a little noise late at night, but want to be able to get around comfortably and enjoy some nice meals outside.

2023.03.30 20:21 CommissionDependent4 Why I consider the Rek'Sai rework to be a shallow take on her original theme

Why I consider the Rek'Sai rework to be a shallow take on her original theme
Riot has claimed that Rek'Sai's and Tahm Kench's original iterations didn't fully leave up to their gameplay fantasies, but I personally find their reworks to be shallow takes on their original themes.

https://preview.redd.it/gxjiffn65xqa1.jpg?width=1215&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=59cf0742042a56a4ea6d5ae69f095ea3b3d21709
In "The Terror Beneath", Rek'Sai's release cinematic, she is portrayed as a calculating predator whose main objective is to keep eliminating her target's already astronomical chances of survival before truly going in for the kill. That's best portrayed near the end of her cinematic, where Rek'Sai, instead of simply charging towards the travelling merchant she has separated from his carriage (New Ult), she uses a tunnel to quickly block his only escape path among some ancient ruins (Old ult). As if his chances of actually reaching those ruins were not minuscule already.
I think that gameplaywise she used to perfectly encapsula her 3 main characteristics. Voidborn, Chimera, Pack Leader. Rek'Sai is a Voidborn, who, in spite of her nearly unrivaled physical strength, uses every tool in her disposal and never takes half measures. That's not necessarily because she is "intelligent" but because eliminating her target's every chance of survival is simply instinct to her as she was designed (or evolved) to be as efficient as possible.
Her Chimera aspect is expressed by being a Shape-shifter type champion, and consequently the variety of tools and utility her kit provides. Her Sonar could give her team information on their opponent's locations. Her Tunnels are used for zoning and also turn her into a specialist, perfectly mirroring her place in the lore where her species, the Xer'Sai, have taken control of a large chunk of the Shuriman desert, the Sai'Kahleek. Travelling through this part of the desert is considered suicidal because it's littered with the Xer'Sai's tunnels, which allow them to efficiently maneuvre the desert, which makes escaping the Xer'Sai impossible. Rek'Sai's old ultimate also had a myriad of purposes, including quick travel, entering or exiting battle and bluffing (the ability would give out a scream audible by the enemy team when used).
With her being a pack Leader, and mother of the Xer'Sai, Riot was hinting at a possible sentimentality when it came to her children (now confirmedd by Bel'Veth voice lines). After all she is a chimera of various predators (Shark, Dolphin, Crustacean etc.) and predators who live in packs naturally evolve to make close bonds and care for each other (Wolfs, Dolphins). Her role as a jungler who provides utility and interacts with her allies to get things done doesn't at all deviate from her fantasy because she was never meant to be anywhere near as shallow as just a brute who doesn't let go of her target.
Here's Rek'Sai: The Terror Beneath for those who care https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcB-FreSnG8
I'll leave the Tahm Kench rant for another time.

2023.03.30 20:21 GiveMeOliveIt Advice on calorie tracking

I’ve swam competitively for 12 years in middle school and onward, so I have a pretty good technique when it comes to strokes and getting distance done efficiently, I’m wondering if the calorie tracker on my Garmin Instinct for swimming is accurate? I did 1650 meters in 35 minutes and I did not feel that tired mentally if physically but it read back as 475 calories. I’m wondering if they calculate off of meterage and heart rate or do they use a genetic calorie calculator without taking into consideration my heart rate?

I’ve never really learned good studying techniques in high school and now I’m taking orgo and bio so I was wondering what are the most efficient ways to study for those classes? Thank you!

2023.03.30 20:21 unscrupulous-canoe Sortition juries to judge Congress' decisions 10 years after the fact

(This is a wild & crazy idea that I had recently- it's more in the 'shower thoughts' category than I Am Formally Proposing This. So, I'm open to critiques).
Proposal- 10 or 12 years after a Congressional session (i.e. say the 113th Congress), we establish a large jury via sortition to judge how their votes look now that we've had a decade to reflect on them. The jury could be anywhere from several dozen to a few hundred voters, who are sequestered for 2-4 weeks, put up in a hotel and paid (like a real salary) to examine the major votes Congress made 10 or so years ago. Things like, the Iraq war resolution, passing Obamacare, the Trump tax cuts, etc. How do they look in retrospect, now that we've had time to reflect?
Make it adversarial- one party makes the argument say that the Iraq war was a good thing, one party argues it's a bad thing, a panel of judges referees, and ultimately the jury decides- was that vote a good decision? And what's at stake? Money- pensions for Congressmen and women. Every vote for a good decision establish a lifelong pension, a monthly income stream. You voted for the Iraq war, which the jury would likely find to be a bad decision? You don't get anything- but if you voted against it, you're entitled to x amount of monthly pension payment. It's a retirement plan for good decisions. 6-8 major votes they took are weighed, so there's a little money for each good vote (or not).
The Why- politicians famously just want to win re-election, so no one in the voting system is incentivized to make wise long-term decisions. For example we could stabilize Social Security if we raised payroll taxes and reduced benefits for wealthy retirees- but who wants to take a tough, unpopular vote and make the seniors angry, even if it's a good decision for the country? Here, we're trying to incentivize long-term thinking. Frankly I think the whole very public process would be at least as motivating as the actual money.
Logistics- how much money for a good decision? I'm flexible, but I like the idea of replicating their current pay ($174k) with enough good decisions. The Senate? You'd probably have to judge them in 2 year blocs too (remember they're elected in staggered terms). Judge the President too? Sure, I'm open to it. Would it be highly partisan? Maybe, but hopefully focusing on actual issues and not individual Congresspeople would help. Who decides what's a major vote? Maybe the Senate parliamentarian or a panel of judges, with the benefit of hindsight (i.e. repealing Glass-Steagall was clearly a huge deal). Is 10 years not long enough? We could do 15 or 20 years instead, sure.
Obviously Congress is not going to start doing this, like, next year. But a town or small county certainly could. If it's a good idea it could slowly trickle up over time. Partially inspired by this great post on sortition https://www.reddit.com/EndFPTP/comments/wbesg1/sortition_election_hybrid_let_juries_elect/

2023.03.30 20:20 Eezyville After almost 3 years I finally got hired! But I need your help because the company has nothing set up.

TLDR: I'm walking into a team with no SDLC, version control, and aren't using the technology properly and I want to change everything.

Hey guys,
I've been out of work for almost 3 years. I spent all that time improving my programming skills, applying, and getting some certifications. I survived by doing side gigs in AutoCAD work and living off of credit cards. That all changed when I was recently hired to a local firm (I'm sorry for being vague). I will be a Data Engineer there with a good salary for the area. I like the salary and benefits and I like the people I'll work with (its a small team). But there are some serious issues that needs to be addressed and I'd like some advice on how to go about solving these problems.
So let me explain the situation I'm walking into. The team is small, less than 5, they will probably expand since the business sees a need to invest in data, I want to break into this field. During my on-site interview after they explained the work they did and expressed their excitement to have someone new to the team I started to ask the list of basic questions I've developed after dozens of interviews.
Me, Question 1: "What do you use for version control? Github, Gitlab, Bitbucket?"
Them: "What's version control?"
My inner voice: "Shit..."
Them: "We just keep a master copy of our code on the server and make local copies. When we update the code we just overwrite the master copy."
Me, after a short pause: "How do you keep track of code changes?"
Them: "We ask that everyone write comments in the code explaining what they did so the next programmer can work with it. We had problems in the past because when people leave we lost track of what they did."
My inner voice: "Shhhiiiiiiitttttt......"
Me: "I noticed in your VS Code console that there isn't an environment set for your Python script. How do you manage virtual environments?"
Them: "What's a virtual environment?"
My inner voice: "Oh my God..."
Me: "When you work in Python you often import packages to use libraries that aren't available to you, such as Pandas, and typically you begin your project by creating a virtual environment to install those packages to. You can then share that environment by freezing the packages into a requirements.txt file and bundle it with your software."
Them: "Really? We just install the packages using pip. We didn't even know about virtual environments. Sometimes we have problems with not having the right package installed on our computers so we have to update everything."
My inner voice: "Stop asking questions NOW!!!!!"
So there you have it Reddit. This is what I'm about to walk into. I'm not senior level and the team is small. When I start the job the first thing I'll do is demand some common sense changes. Here is my list:
  1. Define a development process. They need a software development lifecycle established years ago.
  2. Set up version control. I'll probably request Gitlab because I like Gitlab.
  3. Establish code review process. I've been teaching myself to code for years. I'm currently reading through Clean Code in Python and a bunch of other books I got through HumbleBundle. I am not an expert but I will try to share my knowledge and grow with them.
  4. Adopt Continuous Integration. I've been playing around with Jenkins to learn it but I may default to Gitlab. They need to have automatic tests. I was afraid to ask them how they did their tests because of the answers I got so far.
  5. Implement Continuous Deployment. I have no idea how they deploy their code. I was afraid to ask.
  6. Set up automation tools for their pipelines and repetitive tasks.
  7. On going training. I walked in with the Google Data Analysis certificate and I know that was helpful to me. I will try to convince them to have some sort of training or certification program for the team. At least for future members.
My questions are: Is this list a good start? What technologies should I investigate to set up an efficient software development workflow? How much time would be reasonable to set this up? I don't mind wearing multiple hats but would this be detrimental to my career?
Thanks for your input.

What are some common mistakes made by UPSC coaching institutes?

UPSC coaching institutes can be quite helpful for students preparing for the UPSC exam, but there are some common mistakes that they may make.
First, some coaching institutes may not focus on giving individual attention to their students, which can be detrimental when it comes to preparing for the UPSC exam. Additionally, some coaching institutes may not provide quality study material or properly explain the concepts covered in the exam.
Another mistake that some coaching institutes make is not focusing on time management. Many students struggle to complete the exam within the allotted time and coaching institutes should be providing strategies to help students manage their time effectively.
Finally, some coaching institutes lack innovation and fail to provide creative solutions to help their students understand the concept. If you are looking for the best UPSC coaching, then Physics Wallah offers the best coaching for UPSC. It provides quality study material, individual attention, innovative teaching methods and strategies for managing time efficiently.
Hope this helps!

2023.03.30 20:19 SuperDuper___ Question: I have Sapphire Preferred…What do you all do regarding potential points and prices when deciding to use booking.com/Chase/direct with hotel? (I’m currently accumulating points only and not spending any)

For instance…A hotel I’m looking at is $100 cheaper on booking.com so my mind automatically thinks saving money is the better deal. But then I realize 5x multiplier vs. 2x is a big difference in the end. What threshold do you all use when deciding?

2023.03.30 20:18 DoctorPrisme [deck]Slimefoot and Squee

Hello everyone!
First things first, I've been playing magic for 25+ years on and off, edh only since it became a format rather than a few judge's guilty pleasure, and more and more a cEDH/High powered player.
Now that these useless informations are out, the core of our subject : Slimefoot and Squee ! I've loved this card as soon as I saw it, and knew I had to try and build the deck.
For those who aren't aware; it's a 3/3 for JUND that spawns saprolings on EtB or on attack and can reanimate stuff (along with itself) by sacrificing those saproling (and paying a few mana).
You'll find my decklist and a very WiP primer here, There's obviously a few cards to replace, as marked in the description and the primer, but given the commander isn't out yet I guess it's okayish while we discuss.
A few cards I've found great : grist is obviously cool, able to deal with threats on board and feed the grave as well as providing fodder for various sac engines.
Vilis may seem out of line but being able to reanimate it and drawing a lot can fold the game very fast.
Burning Tree shaman seems jank but it's actually really helpful at fixing mana and/or paying the reanimation cost,
Cards I haven't seen shine yet : scavenging ooze seems a good tech choice but I will probably replace it by a Veil for protection, Grey merchant and Nadier nightblade are a bit slow and should get out as they only provide a win if the deck is only infinite, and we have othebetter options for that. RecSage, Ragavan and PFB are on the edge, as while the cards are definitely good, they don't really go in the main plan and I need room for Finale or Razaketh.
From my first tests : the deck is very efficient, as always with jund you can go infinite with half a sandwich and a goblin; and if you don't get too hasty you should be able to steal a few games. Grave hate is obviously an issue; but the biggest offender (RiP or dauthi) can relatively easily be dealt with.
I guess this is it. I'd love to hear your ideas, techs, thoughts, opinions and advices on how to make this strong. I understand this will never reach the highest tables of cEdh, but I also think it can hold its own and steal a few victories, and is definitely a strong contender on high power tables.
Thanks for reading!
