2023.03.30 17:24 warl0cks Medical Extortion

Due to the dystopian state of the US healthcare system, out of control inequality and corporate greed, people with medical conditions and disabilities are often targeted as cost saving opportunities as layoffs loom and spring raise season is upon us.
Imagine this, you’re a employee that has to take a 20-25k medication a month , If you pay cash/out of pocket. If you don’t get this medication , you become very ill and can even possibly die. If you are insured, this could be just a few dollars or even free depending on co-pays.
Your employer knows about your condition, might even have an accommodation on the books for it. You start seeing a pattern, you’re passed up on promotions and raises over and over again. Even as you are meeting the requirements of your role. What’s going on ?
The employer knows you won’t leave to seek better pay/roles because most of (if not all) of your net worth would be gone in a couple months. Paying either for cobra or medications. So you don’t possibly die… So you’re “stuck” or the phrase I like to use is “Medical Extortion”. The fear of death/pain from their medical condition that is keeping them in a role/wage that is beneficial for the company but is well below market. So low a tenured employee with multiple years at a company could be making LESS than a new hire starting at the same role. After all its profits above all costs… With rising inflation, no raise equates to a pay cut. Companies just care about their bottom line, if they can extort a worker to keep their wages low, they will jump on the opportunity. They underestimate the effect this has on the employees and it’s insulting that they think we don’t know what they are doing…

2023.03.30 17:23 Teampatta Dumb decision?

Just picked up a white M3RWD Sunday, so in love! Got a demo as it was the cheapest option and that made wife happy. Wanted blue but I actually am really enjoying the white color tho!
Anyway I bought two mobile chargers and that is what I’m thinking was dumb. I had an electrician install a nema 14-50 today for $350 (which was great price I think) and planning on leaving one of the mobile chargers always plugged in at home. Bought the other one to always have in the car, seems smart right?
Thing is I’m driving all over north Texas and I’m finding quite a few free charging spots! Don’t want/need to supercharge as I got the car to save funds on fuel.
I plugged into a 110 the other day while in a quick meeting and that was pointless for 1% wasn’t worth the time plugging it in.
TLDR: I guess it will be nice to have the extra mobile connector as a safety net but I really don’t see myself using it. Maybe I should try to return it.
Man this car is awesome!

2023.03.30 17:21 XxmrblondexX Bait fishing for trout

I fish in a lake that gets planted with fry and put and grow fish 8-12 inch. I am stuck on a dock. I’m fishing with power bait eggs/mouse tail/ dough bait. How long would you let your bait soak before switching colors. I usually let it sit for like an hour. I had some success with that but I doubt myself as a fisherman and wondered if switching types or colors sooner could catch me fish faster. It’s a big lake 500 acres. I’ve tried lures and I’ve seen others try them with no luck. I have seen people catch using what I use. It’s also still cold here water temps are below 50.

2023.03.30 17:15 mokee92 Circuit breakers be tripping...help :-(

Greetings. This week I have been having quite a bit of circuit breaker issues. Nothing major has changed since last week but 2 breakers have been tripping constantly..
Backstory. I live in Arizona and am in a new build from 2020. All the breakers are 'combination afci'. See picture. The first breaker that has tripped quite often is the one in the kitchen. It is a 20AMP breaker that has a coffee maker plugged in, an extension cable that powers a phone charger and two small speakers. It is not heavy load by any chance. the circuit will trip often when I try to make a 10oz coffee. This is a new coffee maker and the old one I also remember tripping. I've had this coffee maker (keurig) over a month and the trips have been happening since last week. The outlets are labeled 'GFCI protected'. Can any one tell me what is going on? Reading online tells me the initial on of a coffee maker takes about a 12amp. Which is below what the circuit is capable of. Do I have a bad breaker? My neighbor also had the same issue and she hired an electrician who told her that these breakers are very sensitive. Something like arc breakers of something. Other neighbors also posted on the neighborhood groups page that they replaced the breakers with regular breakers and are no longer having issues but won't say which breakers they replaced them with. What's a regular breaker? I did some more reading on this and on homedepot site, there are numerous kinds and I am curious to know what you make of it. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Square-D-Homeline-20-Amp-Single-Pole-Combination-Arc-Fault-Circuit-Breaker-HOM120CAFIC-HOM120CAFIC/202353306 - this looks like the breakers that I have. Do you guys think they just replaced them with afci breakers? What would you recommend? Is there some sort of tool that I can use to see if there is actually something wrong with the circuit? Note: the breaker is labeled on the panel as 'kitchen gfi'

The second breaker that is tripping alot is the 15amp that is in the off position in the picture. Same cafci breaker and started happening this week. This breaker has the flex/den room lights (all leds and outlets, entry lights (leds) and outlets and laundry lights (leds). Outlets in the laundry are on different circuits. Now there are two low power light frames connected . One outsides, one inside and we've had them for 2 years no issues. There is one security camera connected at all times. An iron that is used not that often. In the den/flex room, is my entertainment and office equipment. I have an Lg oled tv (max 184 watts), a ps5 (gaming 200 watts), a yamaha 5.1 receiver (max 500 watts but I have never used it more than half way in terms of volume so I will say I use 250 watts), a 200 watt subwoofer again never used it above 50% so for my calculations - 100 watts, I have two work monitors both at less than half brightness (one is rated at max 21 watts and the other 40watts), my work laptop hooked into a dock is rated at 180 watts together, I have another monitor for gaming that is rated at 40 watts max, gaming laptop at 180 watts max, a 2.1 channel speaker system rated at 200 watts max (again I never listen to full volume so I will used 100 watts), my brother work station - 240 watts (laptop and dock, 2 monitors at 32 watts together and occasionally he'll plug in his personal at 180 watts, two cell chargers at 20 watts together. This circuit should be rated to handle 1800 watts, and all the above heavy hitters amounts to = 1787 watts. I have not included the led lights and frames outsides, as I don't think they draw hardly anything. It is also to be noted that never is everything above is in use all at once. Prior to the trips, my wife's laptop and a monitor were also on the same circuit but I have changed all her equipment to a different 20A circuit to reduce loads (about 240 watts including the monitor. For over a year, we had all this on the same circuit and all was good but this week? Everything is plugged in via good surge protectors. The iron is used at times when there is nothing happening. So any thoughts here? Can bad lights also cause trips. The lights flicker from time to time. These are builder grade lights and the warranty guy said replace them. I'm like tf. Do you think the breakers are bad and I should replace them with afci breakers?

Sorry for the long post. I can't even find an electrician for two weeks since they are booked out. I also tightened all the wires in the outlets to no avail. Let me know if I missed any crucial info. Thanks for reading.

2023.03.30 17:13 mikezaw Opening Day 3/30 - Draftkings Bargain Bin

Hey everyone,
It's opening day! Not sure how often I'll be able to post but wanted to try this out this season and I hope it helps.
The purpose: find some value plays aka bargain bin on draft kings. Most of these have a little more risk involved but these should help you be a bit more contrarian and or fill out your lineups.
Here we go:
Pitchers:
Patrick Corbin (6200) vs Atlanta
I know this seems crazy to play him vs Atlanta's stacked lineup but hear me out... Although he hasn't had a season with an ERA better than 4.6 simce 2019 , this spring he seems to have fixed his control issues with a 13:1 K:BB ratio over 14 innings. His sprimg ERA is at a 3.86 as well. With the pitch clock favoring pitchers and the weather in DC around high 50s I'll take my chances at this price and see if we can get a solid 5-6 innings from Corbin and hope he limits baserunners and runs.
German Marquez (7000) @ San Diego
Another guy who when he limits the free passes and is locked in has great stuff. He's throwing against a powerful Padres lineup but his troubles are directly related to giving up walks. If he limits that tofay we can't rule out 5-6 innings and a decent amount of K's vs a hungry Sand Deigo lineup.
Hitters
Jake Cave (2600) & Derrick Hall (2900) @ Texas
Very tough matchup for both of these guys today but both Long Ball Hall and Caveman have been lightining it up this spring. Cave earned his way onto the team with an outstanding spring and Hall now the everyday First baseman hitting in the heart of the Phillies potent lineup.
Tristan Casas (2900) vs Baltimore
This kid has had one of the highest OPS in spring so far. Hitting 6th in the Red Sox order he will have every opportunity to be the other guy in their lineup besides Devers. Facing Kyle Gibson today, I like his chances for a few hits maybe even a HR.
Elehuris Montero (2800) @ San Diego
Riding the hot hand here, a guy who really began to heat up at the right time heading into the season. He gets a cjamce to start at the hot corner with an injury to Rogers and has a favorable matchup vs a lefty today (Snell). He is worth a dart throw at 2800.
Good luck to everyone today!

2023.03.30 17:13 vitamjn Playdough Headspace

Has anyone experienced in the 300-600 ug range the Playdough visuals? Like stop motion clay almost but in real life.
This has happened to a decent amount of people I know IRL, and I noticed it usually only happens around 300-600 mcg, and with a slight tolerance.
I’ll try to explain it, but it’s like the world literally looks like Playdough and is extremely malleable. One instance me and 2 friends were off around 500 ug each, when the play dough visuals got extremely intense, and my friend was able to remove the tip of his finger, roll it in to a ball, then put it back on his hand and grow back to normal.
I’ve taken large doses before but I noticed this specific headspace only happens with specific circumstances and the vibe of it is always much different than an “ego death”
If anyone may know what I am describing feel free to share an experience below!

2023.03.30 17:12 PennyworthInvesting Copper vs Oil: The Great Disconnect

Copper vs Oil: The Great Disconnect
Copper is an important industrial metal and remains the key transitional metal in our view for the ongoing renewable revolution.
Historically, copper also has an almost unbeaten record for sniffing out economic strength and weakness before many other commodities. Fondly called Dr. Copper for this very reason, the copper industry is an essential part of the global economy and demand is closely tied to overall economic growth.
According to the Copper Alliance (a leading advocate for the copper industry), one tonne of copper is enough to build 40 cars, power 100,000 mobile phones, drive operations in 400 computers and bring electricity to 30 homes.
Historically, there has been a strong correlation between copper and oil, as both are affected by the same economic factors and market conditions. Energy costs make up a significant portion of the costs of copper extraction, smelting and refining, so there is a material basis for copper and oil prices to fluctuate in unison.
Oil is also a critical power source for economic activity, and quickly reflects falling or rising economic output. Oil accounts for about 3% of GDP and is one of the world’s most important commodities. Petroleum is essential to the manufacture of innumerable products from plastics and chemicals to clothing, and constitutes billions of dollars of transactions, even before considering its use as a fuel for transportation.
For a short video summary of this report, look here: https://youtu.be/6zX6yTk6jYU
A decline or expansion of the world economy almost always results in an increase or decline of oil and copper prices. Forecasts of the respective prices and consumption of these two commodities, are generally set and revised with projections of global economic growth. Case in point, economists will often perceive a rise in oil prices as news of inflationary or recessionary tailwinds.
https://preview.redd.it/f0gh2sse4wqa1.png?width=867&format=png&auto=webp&s=2f7a34688b06f6224c6679c8cf477f6910dfc9e7
However, we’ve noticed something strange happening lately. We are seeing a decoupling of copper and oil prices, with copper prices rising dramatically year to date while oil prices are struggling amid global inflationary concerns and a worldwide banking crisis.
Oil vs. Copper Price (Year to Date %)
So why is copper holding up so much better than oil, when forecasters expect slowing economic growth, tightening lending standards and a potential recession within the next 12 months?
We think the answer all comes down to inventories…

Oil: A Story of Geopolitics & Supply
The International Energy Agency (IEA) states that in Q4 2022, supply outpaced demand by over 1 mb/d, despite a cut in OPEC+ production targets and disruptions to US supplies (due to winter storms).
Also, gains in energy efficiencies and soaring sales of electrical vehicles, will curb global 2023 demand growth by close to 900 kb/d in 2023. The market participation of Russia and China remains unpredictable, as sanctions have prompted Russia to seek new customers (at arguably reduced prices) for their oil, and the nature and speed of China’s reopening is still uncertain.
US Central bank policy has overshadowed China’s reopening, with the two week old banking crisis taking crude oil futures down by about $11/bbl, or 13% since March 3rd.
The US oil benchmark, Western Texas Intermediate (WTI) continues to slump as well as US crude stockpiles build. Overall, optimism is fading from the market.

Copper: The Uncrowned King of Commodities
Like Rodin’s the Thinker, copper sits above the rest in contemplation of the current tepid macroeconomic backdrop.
Copper is the best performer this year out of the industrial metals, rising more than 7% year-to-date, while other comparable metals have fallen in an environment of slowing economic growth expectations.
There is evidence that current prices aren’t reflecting expected supply deficits, which we’ll discuss below.

Very Low Inventory Driving Current Price Strength
We think the most likely explanation for Copper’s strength vs oil comes down to copper’s very low global inventory levels. As we’ve covered in previous articles, global inventories for copper and other industrial metals held at exchange monitored warehouses (i.e. LME & SHFE) are at record lows.
The situation looks like its gotten worse amidst all the economic worries not better, with investment Bank Goldman Sachs forecasting that the world could run out of visible copper inventories by Q3 this year, if current demand trends continue.
The re-opening of China, a major consumer of copper is a major contributor to rising copper demand expectations this year. Chinese demand rose strongly in February, the latest month of data. Currently, copper inventories are at the lowest seasonal level since 2008.
According to GS, Chinese copper demand rose 13% in February year-over-year; and they believe that the price could hit $10,500 a tonne as the Asian nation increases their post lunar new year industrial activity.
Copper Global Visible Inventories
One of the major factors affecting the strong copper price is the increasing demand for green technologies, more specifically batteries. McKinsey & Co. has identified that electrification is projected to increase annual copper demand to 36.6 million metric tons by 2031, and only rapid new mine development and the adoption of copper mitigating technologies, could potentially fill the looming copper supply gap.

Shortfalls, Slowdowns & Supply Gaps driving an Uncertain Future
A 2022 S&P Global study found that significant copper shortfalls will begin in 2025, as a result of increased demand from the energy transition and limited new copper supply. Their rocky road scenario assumes that if current conditions continue, there will be a 10 million metric ton shortfall by 2035. Even in their high ambition scenario, which assumes significant strides in technologies for extraction and recycling techniques, a shortfall will continue until 2035.
Forecast Copper Supply & Demand Balance
Unfortunately, the mining industry will not be able to meet this supply gap from new production without a frankly unrealistic increase in drilling capital expenditures.
Many of the world’s largest copper mines are facing dwindling reserves, depleted ore-grades and are slowing production due to capital-intensive major projects being moved underground in a bid to increase access to more ore.
Looking for new deposits (called greenfield exploration), is very costly and imposes inherit risks and difficulties. Not to mention, finding copper and putting it on production takes a long time.
The past decade has seen greenfield exploration slow dramatically, as the excess supply from 2006-2012 was worked down.
S&P Global estimates that new discoveries averaged 50Mt annually from 1990 to 2010. Moving to the present, discoveries have fallen by 80% to only 8Mt / year.
Current estimates expect a cumulative supply gap of 50Mt or over two years of global demand, between 2022 and 2030.
Mining project approval rates have stalled. During the first half of 2022, the volume of committed projects totaled just 260,000 tonnes of production per year.
Mining Project Approvals by Year (kt copper)
Three Ways to Invest in a Copper Shortage
Given the significant inventory shortages we have identified above, copper prices are poised to hold up better than other commodities if we are going into a period of economic weakness.
A resumption of quantitative easing by Central Banks or falling interest rates, could easily push copper prices to new highs under the current supply shortages.
We prefer three different ways to invest in these trends, bucketed by diversification and risk.
On the lower risk end of the spectrum is the Global X Copper Miners ETF (Ticker: COPX). The ETF is well diversified with 51 positions, and the top 10 stocks taking up a little over half of portfolio.
The diversification of COPX helps you avoid taking on company risk, the risk that one company does something stupid. COPX provides exposure to the price of copper with the potential for better returns than physical copper given the operating leverage copper miners have to the underlying commodity.
Top 25 Holdings of the COPX Copper ETF
Year-to-date copper prices are outperforming the copper miners 3.4%, though in early February the copper miners were up 18%, 10% more than physical copper.
YTD Performance of Copper vs COPX ETF
Our second preferred way to invest in copper upside is to own a high-quality large miner like Southern Copper (Ticker: SCCO). Southern Copper has a market value of $55bn and generates almost 80% of revenue from copper.
Southern Copper Footprint
Yes, Southern Copper is more expensive than large mining peers like BHP or Freeport-McMoRan, but it has outperformed them significantly this year due to its heavy copper weighting. Exactly the exposure and outcome an investor would want.
Forecast EV/EBITDA in 2023
YTD Performance
Our final investment pick to take advantage of the positive copper outlook is a small cap miner, with a unique value proposition. Investing in small caps does come with higher operational risks, but this is balanced by far higher return potential as smaller miners are often mispriced, especially at the beginning of a sustained period of stable to rising commodity prices, like we may be in today.
The company we’ve chosen has a truly unique operational footprint as it produces copper but does not need a mine to do so. The company Amerigo Resources (Ticker: ARG, ARREF), which we’ve written about before on Capital10x, provides significant leverage to copper prices without exposing investors to uncertainties that come from operating a complex copper mine.
Amerigo receives waste fluid (tailings) from El Teniente, one of the largest copper mines in the world. The company extracts the remaining Copper and Molybdenum from the waste stream, selling it back to the mine at the current global copper price.
https://preview.redd.it/km165rqb6wqa1.png?width=705&format=png&auto=webp&s=5ed4b9bd1ffdf944ad1e0be228ab6f31de71f960
Another risk mitigator with Amerigo is the company’s very low leverage. Cash exceeds debt which gives the company flexibility should copper prices decline for a period, if the world does go into a shallow recession.
Amerigo is trading on a trailing EV/EBITDA of 5.3x with Copper at $4.11/lb. The last time the stock traded at 5.3x EV/EBITDA copper was at $3.00/lb.
Amerigo EV/EBITDA multiple vs Copper Price
This tells us there is significant upside at current copper prices, especially seeing as EBITDA is expected to be $36 million at $3.60/lb copper which is in line with EBITDA in 2018, when the stock was at a similar multiple.
Bottom Line: Amerigo is pricing in $3.60/lb copper when prices are trading at $4.00/lb or 10% higher.

Commodity Prices Rarely Lie
Whenever we notice two economically sensitive commodities like oil and copper diverging in price, we take notice.
After looking at the fundamentals of each, it became clear there are huge differences that likely explain the divergence.
Oil investment may be low historically, but we can see demand weakening in real time through rising inventory levels in the US and elsewhere.
Copper in contrast has an acute supply shortage. The supply situation is so critical that even as global growth and demand are weakening, prices have been rising, telling us supply just isn’t there.
Copper has the superior short term and long term demand trends and continues to be our preferred commodity investment this decade, regardless of the chances we see of a global recession in the near future.

2023.03.30 17:08 LastoftheGreatOnes I was laid off - what to do with severance, 401k, etc?

I was recently laid off as part of a tech layoff. Full details of the severance package are below:
In addition, I have $14k fully vested in my 401k.
Total Severence: ~$70k. After-tax in total cash, I'm expecting ~$40k from the severance package, conservatively. This doesn't include my bonus and paycheck listed above, another ~8k.
My wife works and is actually getting a raise on April 1 to $88k. We have a bit of saving amounting to around $5k plus about $5k in our checking account, around 25k in an IRA, another 3k in a different IRA, and then a collection of crypto, etc that amounts to around $5k.
I have a Mortgage, 1 car payment, a few personal loans to pay for home renovations amounting to $20k (average interest rate around 10%), and a bit of credit card debt around $15k (average interest rate around 20%).
I have a plan which is: - Pay off all CC debt immediately to decrease my monthly spending immediately (-$15k) - Re-evaluate afterward, perhaps pay off home reno loans as well, though I do think the interest and monthly payment are low enough to not impact largely. This would likely only happen after I get another position and am stable in that position.
But after that, I honestly have no idea what to do with the remaining ~$25k, smartly. Invest in a savings account that gives rewards after a few months? Invest it into the stock market? Keep it as a rainy day? Down payment on rental property?
The job search is going really well, already 6 REAL interviews lined up and I believe I'll get one of them. Compensation is comparable to my previous salary, so no real impact financially.
What would you do in this situation? What's the smart play here?

2023.03.30 17:07 Chadyboy89 Advice on 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Fuel Economy

Hello everyone!
I bought the 2023 Kia Niro EX Hybrid and have about 1,000 miles on it so far. I really love the car and all its features… especially fuel economy when I first bought it. I do have a couple of questions for any owners who can help. Whenever I fill up my gas tank, my info cluster shows me 500 miles. After researching I should be able to go about 588-600 miles. What does your info cluster show when you fill up?
I recently have come across a strange occurrence where I’ll have for example 450 miles starting out when I drive (about 8 miles home) and I notice my gas miles decrease by 4-5 miles to 445 within 2-3 minutes of driving. Most trips my mileage shows I’ve lost 12 miles on an 8 mile trip home. Temp is 50-55 degrees with no heat on and I usually drive in EV most of the time on my commute home. Roads are not terrible and mostly flat. I’ve even caught gas mileage go down while in EV mode sometimes. I was curious if any of you experience this and if this isn’t normal and should have my car serviced? Maybe I’m just weird and everything is fine.

2023.03.30 17:01 AgentPeggyCarter Throwback Thursday - Profiler article excerpt from 9/1997 issue of Written By

Sixty-Minute Men & Women Writing The Hour Drama Written By Patricia Troy
Profiler
With the current proliferation of television series based around the weird, the paranormal and the just plain psychotic, last season's premiere of Profiler distinguished itself by being the most recognizably human. While X-Files agents Scully's and Mulder's characters remain about as multidimensional as holograms and the lead character on Millennium looks creepier than most of the killers he tracks, FBI profiler Sam Waters (Ally Walker) has the intelligence, warmth and depth of a fully drawn woman.
Created by writer Cynthia Saunders, the pilot established the main characters and the nature of the crimes they'd be dealing with. Originally set in the Atlanta Police Department, executive producers Kim Manners and Ian Sander worked with Saunders on the script so that by the end of the pilot Bailey Malone (Robert Davi) and Waters would head up the Violent Crimes Task Force operating under the auspices of the FBI.
"We had to figure out how to give the show legs," Manners explains, "so that's why we created the task force. Atlanta is a small jurisdiction, and being under federal auspices made it so that they could work all over the country. And as far as cases, they get the most complicated, most gruesome and the most technical."
One distinctive element of the show that wasn't written on the page was what is termed "Sam Vision"--a quick flash of images that are meant to visualize Waters' intuitive flashes as a trained profiler. The visions, which were created in post-production by Manners and Sander, have led to what the writers feel is a misconception that Waters is a psychic. "What she's seeing," Sander explains, "is not what's coming in the future. It's what she's surmised as a forensic psychologist and a cop. From our point of view we prefer that she's not clairvoyant because it makes the stories more difficult to write and execute. There are a lot more traps if there has to be a logic in how she got from A to B."
Although Manners and Sander will begin to contribute episodes for the coming season, the first year's scripts were written by the staff with collaboration and input from the two executive producers. Being a regular viewer of the show, I was a little apprehensive, but morbidly anticipating sitting down with the staff. What would people who sit around and think up stories about serial killings down to the most minute detail look and act like? Thankfully, they looked and acted like most TV writers (except for the one guy in Heaven's Gate black Nike running shoes--but it was probably just coincidence). The human elements of the series--Waters' relationship with her daughter, Malone's difficulties with his teenage she-rebel, the friendships and divisions between the members of the task force--have been developed by this team of writers: co-executive producers George Geiger and Steve Feke, executive story editor Bob Lowry, story editor Sibyl Gardner, writeproducer Charles Holland and consulting producer Dee Johnson.
According to Feke, "We don't want to write a series that requires week-to-week tune-in, but we do want there to be continuing stories for our characters. So we still put the emphasis on our A story--the crime that's going to be resolved. The deepest challenge is finding room inside of complicated stories that require a lot of scenes and finding room to keep the personal stories going." For Holland, "The more emphasis we put on the personal story the more it enriches the show in the sense that this show is scary. You're supposed to be scared of what's going to happen, not just to the victims but of what's going to happen to our folks."
Because of the complexity of the stories, Lowry states, "We work together a lot more than we work apart. We cross-check each other so that we're certain we haven't made any mistakes. I think the amalgamated talents of this staff combine to find a way to make a show that will be unique--something fresh for the audience to see that's not an X-Files or Walker: Texas Ranger." Gardner agrees: "Our strength as a team comes from who we are as people. We all have very different perspectives on life and the world and human relations."
So how do their personal world views come into play while writing? "I was doing research on serial killers and I noticed a lot of women were in love with Richard Ramirez and wanted to marry him. I thought, 'What's up with that?' And it was in exploring that psychology that created an episode." says Holland.
"I don't think that this show is about the FBI or profiling at its deepest level," he continues. "People read the paper and they see that some guy killed somebody and stuffed him in the trunk of the car; this guy keeps heads in his refrigerator. And they think, 'Why would somebody do that?' We spend all our time figuring that out and that's what really turns me on."
Okay...well, I gotta go now.

Golden Opportunity
The ‘Must-Own’ Company of The Year
That’s why our #1 stock to own in 2023 is Element79 Gold Corp. (CSE:ELEM), a junior miner sitting atop one of the largest land packages in Nevada18 smack dab in the middle of the largest gold complex in the world.19
In today’s market, it’s more important than ever to have a firm foundation of solid research. That’s why when we conducted our due diligence…
…and discovered senior management hailing from Barrick Gold, Eldorado Gold, and Skeena Resources…
…including assets surrounded by some of the biggest gold mines in the world…
…on the verge of near-term cash-flow and operating multiple production-stage facilities…
…and yet trading at valuations a mere fraction of its neighbors…
…we realized how big of a story we had uncovered with Element79 Gold (CSE:ELEM) and why it’s the perfect play in the new inflation age.
Location, Location, Location
Prime Locations in the World’s Top Mining Destinations
Any single property can make an entire company’s legacy. Now consider Element79 Gold (CSE:ELEM), in the short time since its IPO, has already acquired a staggering 17+ properties in prime locations across the world’s top mining jurisdictions.
Their newest Nevada asset includes 18,000 hectares—literally one of the largest land packages in Nevada,79 smack-dab in the middle of the gold region where Barrick and Newmont are operating a joint venture.106
ELEM’s properties stand out in the world’s #1 gold district.
Perhaps more astounding is their Lucero mine which remains one of the highest-grade underground mines in Peru’s history at grades averaging 19.0 g/t Au Equivalent (“Au Eq”) (14.0 g/t gold and 373 g/t silver), and their Machacala Project which averaged production grades of 10.5 g/t Au Eq (6.0 g/t gold and 340 g/t silver). Recent sampling at Lucero returned up to 116.8 g/t Au Eq (78.7g/t Au and 2,856 g/t Ag), truly astounding numbers in today’s age. It’s hard to believe these properties are wrapped within a small unknown company trading at these current prices, but that’s the value of finding these situations before the crowd.
One need look no further than the words of their CEO, stating in plain terms, “the acquisition of these high-grade Peruvian gold assets offers Element79 Gold (CSE:ELEM) the opportunity to harness new avenues for near-term cash-flow and take an accelerated path toward potentially operating multiple production-stage facilities,” commented James Tworek, President and CEO of Element79 Gold(CSE:ELEM).
Unknown to most is that Peru has mining-friendly legislation that allows up to 350 tpd production. Once that target is achieved, targeted for the coming 12-24 months, additional production licenses can be obtained to expand production. Element79 Gold (CSE:ELEM) has stated that it intends to pursue the opportunities aggressively, and that could spell significant cash-flow for investors.
Investors Win Big
Drill Results Can Net Life-Changing Returns
A few years ago, one of the most explosive stories in junior mining unfolded before our eyes,102 closing the trading day at just $0.72 on August 21st, 2018.
The very next day, drill results were announced showing several stretches of high-grade gold82 and soon **that stock traded up to a high of $17.93.**102
Investors who bought early, before the drill results were announced, turned a modest $40,000 stock purchase into nearly a $1 million dollar windfall at its peak.
Returns like that can be life-changing and it didn’t take a lifetime of saving, it was buying the right stock before the crowd.

The Midas Touch
Element79 Gold (CSE:ELEM)’s Assets Within Nevada
With 18,000 hectares—nearly 70 square miles—this is an unusually large land package for a junior miner sitting in a precious-metals hotspot among elephants like Newmont and Barrick.
Here’s what’s most stunning: with tremendous assets and only 82 million shares outstanding,97 Element79 Gold (CSE:ELEM)’s current share price is a bargain compared to peers.
Maverick Springs: Gold at Value Prices
Element79 Gold (CSE:ELEM)’s latest acquisition, Maverick Springs, is located within the legendary Carlin Trend gold belt92, home of the famed Carlin Mine, the world’s second largest gold mine83 which reported a staggering **1.7 million ounces of gold production in 2020.**91 In fact, this highly-distinguished gold belt has produced over 90 million ounces of gold to date.90 At present gold prices, **that’s in excess of $150 TRILLION dollars worth pulled out of the area.**107 It’s clear as day, Element79 Gold’s claims are in the right place.
In fact, just recently news was released revealing millions of gold equivalent ounces in the ground already. Read the full press release here for details.
Battle Mountain: Upside, Upside, Upside
The Battle Mountain portfolio includes 15 highly prospective properties just to the west, with several early-stage drill holes revealing promising intercepts and high-grade finds.
The majority of the Battle Mountain Projects are located within the Battle Mountain Trend (see figure below), with several Projects in close proximity to world-renowned gold deposits including Nevada Gold’s Cortez Mine, the third largest gold mine in North America93 and the sixth largest in the world, which reported 2020 gold production at 799,000 ounces.91
The same belt of deposits also contains the recently discovered Goldrush complex that, as of 2016, carries measured and indicated resources of 25.2 million tonnes grading 10.6 g/t, representing**8.6 million ounces of gold in the ground.**94 The area is also home to SSR Mining Inc.’s Marigold Mine, which is expected to produce approximately 2.37 million ounces of gold between 2018 and 2028.95
ELEM’s projects highlighted in yellow stars within the legendary belt.
The northernmost Projects in the Battle Mountain Portfolio, the Golconda and Clover Projects, lie just south of the Getchell Gold Belt, which bridges the northwestern ends of the Carlin and Battle Mountain Trends, and contains Nevada Gold’s Turquoise Ridge Mine, the third largest gold mine in the U.S. **with 537,000 oz of gold production reported in 2020.**91
The Brock and Stargo Projects are situated on the southern end of the Austin-Lovelock Trend, southwest of Eureka and northeast from Kinross Gold Corporation’s Round Mountain Mine, which placed as **the fourth largest gold mine in the U.S.**91 and, in November of 2018, poured its 15 millionth ounce of gold since beginning operations in 1978.96
The Fraser Institute just ranked this area as the top jurisdiction in the world for investment based on the Investment Attractiveness Index.55
The Buyout Scenario
Major Players Seeking New Acquisitions
Most major mining companies focus on their expertise, acquiring and bringing new mines online. They leave the exploration of high potential properties to the junior mining companies.
That’s why Element79 Gold (CSE:ELEM)’s proximity to so many majors is such a unique opportunity.
In fact, Barrick Gold has directly stated this in their 2020 annual report, *“The Carlin Trend remains a target rich environment. The 2019 program focused on merging massive datasets in support of geological modeling. Drilling was initiated to test highly ranked target concepts as well as establish a geological framework in priority areas lacking drill information. Looking forward, the Carlin Trend will become the most active exploration area in Barrick’s portfolio.“*117
On their own map, you can literally see Barrick and Newmont’s land holdings surrounding Element79 Gold (CSE:ELEM)’s Battle Mountain portfolio.
M&A Hungry Neighbors With Deep Pockets
  • Barrick Gold ($35B market cap) paid over $2.3B to acquire Homestake84 which held mines in Nevada85
  • Newmont Corporation ($45B market cap) acquired Fronteer Gold for more than $2B86
  • Nevada Gold Mines is moving quickly to consolidate assets in the area87
With so many majors working alongside you, it’s hard not to be noticed.
Element79 Gold (CSE:ELEM) will undoubtedly be watched closely by all those in the surrounding area and positive drill results could quickly drive Element79 Gold to the top of every major producer’s M&A wish-list.

2023.03.30 17:00 postentious Leasing vs Financing Vehicle

I am highly considering leasing a vehicle and looking for opinions on it. Leasing makes much more financial sense for me right now than financing, but I am finding it hard to justify paying for a car for two years and not getting anything out of it in the end.
I currently have an older car that was passed down to me by my parents but it is now on its last leg, so I have been trying to decide where to go from here to replace this vehicle. I was initially considering financing a new vehicle as literally everyone I know does this so it was naturally the first thing I considered. However, I am finding this hard to justify because although I can make it work with my budget, I work from home so I don’t need a car for daily use (although I do definitely still need something because I live in a smaller city that is fairly spaced out and has essentially non-existent public transportation), and I currently do not have any car payment so to increase my monthly expenses by so much for something I technically don’t need daily is very hard to justify.
I have also, of course, considered buying a used vehicle, but I am not comfortable buying something more than a few years old as I am tired of feeling stressed about something happening every time I drive my car (I have anxiety about this anyways so having an older car does not help!) and also do not want to have to deal with frequent maintenance. It seems like everything in my city that is only a few years old is not much cheaper than a brand new vehicle and the interest rates are even higher to finance a used vehicle so I would essentially end up paying the same as a brand new vehicle!
So, this led me to looking into leasing a vehicle. There are several cars I have looked at that are still not much cheaper to lease than finance BUT one of the vehicles I was highly considering when I was originally looking at financing is actually much more cheaper to lease and very much tempting me!! To finance this vehicle, it would be around $500/month for 7 years (😬) with a $7000 down payment; however, to lease it for 2 years, it is just $200/month (with the same down payment). After 2 years, I would likely feel more comfortable paying the extra money and would then start financing another vehicle. I could easily fit this $200 in my budget (I am soon getting a raise even higher than this amount anyway), AND I would be getting a brand new vehicle, so obviously I am very tempted by this!! But part of me still can’t get past the thought that, even though i’ll be better off in the short term because of the lower payment, I will be worse off in the long run because I won’t actually own the vehicle.
Anyone have any advice for me in this situation? Unfortunately, I don’t actually know anyone who leases their vehicle so I don’t really know a whole lot about it.

Used Telepass with Rental Car
Hi all,
tldr; I used the Telepass toll road a few times not realising what it was in a rental car. Apparently I should be able to pay what is required online but I don’t have a 10 digit number as they ask for online on my ticket , I have an 11 digit. I have attached a picture of the ticket below. Any advice?
I made a mistake yesterday when travelling from Bergamo airport to Bognanco. I knew I would be passing through toll roads so I had change ready. When I arrived at the first I used the white lane as it had change on the sign, though when I pulled up to the fence there was nothing to put my change in, no machine or anything it seemed. A large truck pulled up behind me and after a few moments the barrier opened and I drove, obviously very confused. I arrived at another toll road shortly after and pulled up to the white lane again, but this time there was a machine which was asking for a ticket which I didn’t have and didn’t know I needed, after a small traffic jam that I’d created someone got out to help me and explained to the intercom operator that I didn’t have a ticket or something, I paid 0.60, it gave me a ticket and then it let me through. The next toll road I decided to see if there were another way I could go through as I didn’t understand the white line so I took the yellow lane, it has a T on it and an EU flag, maybe that was for foreign people or something. I take that lane and it just lets me through along with everyone else. I keep using that lane as it works for the next 5 or so tolls. I now realise that lane is for Telepass users, and being in a rental car means the rental company is going to get the fine and then they’ll charge me for chasing it up along with the fine. Thing is, I can’t see how to use the ticket I originally got to pay what is needed. I have attached pictures of the ticket, any help?

2023.03.30 16:56 wushant_ (M19) Moving In This Fall, Applying as a Roommate

Greetings, I'm an International student moving to TXST this fall. I have recently been exploring some off campus housing options. If anyone's looking for a roommate, please don't hesitate to leave me a text.
I am planning to major in CS and a lot of my interests are based around it. I love cars, boxing and soccer. I also like to strum a few chords in my free time and will be looking for buddies to jam with.
My budget will be around $500.
Thank you all!

2023.03.30 16:54 Aggravating-Fig8495 Coworkers are literally trying to force me to take out a Personal Articles insurance policy.

Is this even allowed? (I work in insurance by the way). I’m seriously getting beyond sick of my two coworkers pushing me to purchase more insurance. Between my husband and I we have 3 autos with excellent coverage (250/500 liability with $0 comp $250 collision, and more) we have a renters policy that is well above the average coverage, and a life policy. I even had to drop the company I was with after getting hired here, which I didn’t really want to do. But the rates were lower with us, so no huge deal. I complied with that. But apparently that’s not enough…
My coworkers WILL NOT stop bugging me to get personal articles policy (to cover loss or theft of jewelry.) If I want one I will get one! Yes, I know they are inexpensive policies, but it’s the principle. Trying to push more money out of me, regardless of how much or how little, is kind of messed up in my opinion. Plus, our car insurance already went up almost $30 a month just because of rate increases. So what if I don’t want to spend another $5 a month? That’s still $60-$70 a year I can save. Maybe even more, depending on if those policies also take a rate increase.
Even if it was $20 a year, it’s MY money, therefore MY choice! But they will not let it go! They have been pushing me since November about this! It’s bordering harassment at this point. I’ve told them I don’t want to at the moment, but when/if I decide to take this policy out I will. I can write it myself as I am licensed. But they keep pushing it.
What would you do?

2023.03.30 16:53 wushant_ (M19) Moving In This Fall, Applying as a Roommate

Greetings, I'm an International student moving to TXST this fall. I have recently been exploring some off campus housing options. If anyone's looking for a roommate, please don't hesitate to leave me a text.
I am planning to major in CS and a lot of my interests are based around it. I love cars, boxing and soccer. I also like to strum a few chords in my free time and will be looking for buddies to jam with.
My budget will be around $500.
Thank you all!

2023.03.30 16:52 sprinkles_2003 Chem 103 spring 2023 materials

Taking Chem 103, this upcoming spring term with Dr Susan Ruthkowsky.
The Required Textbook, Laboratory Manual, are below 1. General Chemistry 103 Course pack: Chapters 12-24 of “Introduction to General, Organic, and Biochemistry” by Sally Solomon. The course pack also contains new material on current topics such as green cleaners, steroids, sweeteners, gamma fatty acids, etc. as well as extra lab experiments.
  1. Lab Manual: “Everyday Investigations for General Chemistry” by Sally Solomon, Susan Rutkowsky, Charles Boritz; Wiley; 2009, New York
I was wondering is the textbook is absolutely required and used at all in the course? And if the lab manual has to be a new edition? Or is an old edition fine to use? These 2 books come together at the bookstore but are very expensive. I found these 2 in a used, but good condition elsewhere, which I want to buy for cheaper if possible, so any insight is appreciated!! Thanks.
