2018.09.11 21:22 happyfave Final drive, all 22 ..
I am not an analyst. This is as amateur as it gets here. Feel free to evaluate these on your own. But I feel these videos paint a better picture of what happened on that last drive than what we saw the other night on TV.
play1.. Great play.
https://i.imgur.com/TVfF82G.mp4 play 2..
https://i.imgur.com/11fI6kR.mp4 play3.. missed an opportunity underneath.
https://i.imgur.com/eXIepmx.mp4 play4.. heavy blitz, did Burton turn the wrong way ?
https://i.imgur.com/pITfRai.mp4 play5.. Miller would have been a better target, but if he threw a better ball, it results in a big play, not a terrible read, but a bad throw.
https://i.imgur.com/Lr1aHq8.mp4 play6.. What a throw, what a catch. Moar please
https://i.imgur.com/9kRtSRw.mp4 play7.. terrible throw. He would have had time, maybe he felt rushed because of the previous blitzes.
https://i.imgur.com/7CDamAn.mp4 play8.. good coverage, but he still had plenty of time. bad throw, nobody was open yet, Needs more patience.
https://imgur.com/a/wgNPZaY play9.. terrible throw. Coverage was good, but it's a catch if it's on the money.
https://imgur.com/a/fR8ou5e play10.. great coverage, nobody was open at all.
https://imgur.com/a/rJjryM9 I personally am holding off on fully judging Trubisky until there is a larger sample size. But I thought this was interesting to see.

2017.02.19 00:07 okcBuzz [OC] A Look at OKC's Offense and the Push for the 6-Seed
The All-Star Break is here!
Time to reflect the first two-thirds, preview the final third & Playoffs, and hope like hell Drake isn’t anywhere near the festivities this year. Here’s a look at the Thunder’s (32–25) first 57 games and see what’s in store for their final 35. The Thunder are in the 7th spot, meaning they'll likely face SAS in the first round of the playoffs. With 1.5 games between them and 6-seed MEM and 6.5 games between them and 8-seed Denver, the push is on to overtake the Grizzlies and avoid the deadly Spurs in the first round.
OKC’s early season story was “OK-Wait-And-C.” Having tragically lost their leading scorer to
Ringchaseriti s a basketball decision no one quite knew what the team would look like, aside from knowing Westbrook would run the show, obviously.
And
boooiiii has he run it. Opening on a fiery 6–1 streak quelled some early season concerns for the Thunder. Never mind that 5 of these 7 games were against non-playoff teams… the team was grinding wins with solid D (97 Opponent PPG) and mercy, did it feel good to win.
Reality hit with a swift kick to the ass when the Thunder went 2–7 over the next two weeks, giving up 110 PPG and allowing 42% shooting from Threeville, compared to 28% 3-shooting from their first 7 opponents.
Since then, the Thunder haven’t lost more than three games in a row, which they've done twice — the last such L-streak was a series of blowout losses to CLE, SAS, and CHI. They’ve been able to string together wins at times and notch some big victories against great teams. Let’s take a look at how OKC’s offense is getting it done.
OFFENSE
The fact that OKC’s at-times explosive offense, ranked 13th in the league, runs almost exclusively through Westbrook is no state secret. Surely even the
Russians know (heh heh). But how exclusive is that ball domination? Mr. Thunderous Lightning’s usage numbers are… aggressive, to say the least.
Check out a
side-by-side comparison with some
other All-Stars around the league. Per category, the numbers represent the percentage of the player’s team’s FGM, FTA, etc. that is accounted for by the player when he’s on the court (e.g., when Westbrook is on the court he accounts for 37.7% of the Thunder’s FG attempts).
In Russ We Trust
Russ leads the league (& every player since 96–97) with a 41% usage rate. That’s the percent of OKC possessions ending with Westbrook doing something — scoring, passing, rebounding, or turning over. Going back to 96-97, only three players who played in at least 20 regular season games ever cracked 37% USG: Allen Iverson, 01–02; Kobe Bryant, 04–05; and Russ himself, 14–15.
When on court, Westbrook accounts for a ridiculous 65% of team assists, 35% of their made FGs, over half their FT attempts, 30% of their rebounds, and 39% of their points. The assists come in a number of ways:
down court,
half court,
inside,
outside,
in transition,
off the pick and roll,
rebound-outlets... often just
doing it all to get an easy bucket.
His favorite target this year? Has to be Steven “Yung Fastidious” Adams, who used the off-season to perfect his rim runs and develop a crafty toolbox of floaters and hook shots. The Kiwi’s other offensive weapon is his rebounding — he’s 8th in OREB and 10th in Contested OREB among players who play 20 or more minutes per game.
We could also talk in depth about Westbrook's lightning ability to score in his own, like on Feb 3 when he closed out Memphis on a 15-0 run. By himself. But OKC’s night-in, night-out success often depends on the contributions of everyone around The Thunderbolt. In the absence of Mr. Basketball Decision, the scoring load had to be diffused across the team — no way Westbrook could pick it up on his own. However, many of his teammates are new , as only seven with 15–16 playoff minutes are on the 16–17 roster . They've needed time to become a team together.
So How About that Supporting Cast?
Russ can only get assists if his teammates are making shots, and in this area the Thunder have been inconsistent. Abrines, Morrow, Sabonis, and Oladipo have struggled mightily at times. Roberson can hit some sly backdoor cuts and occasional corner-3 ability, but his shooting really drops off in losses. Lauvergne, Adams, Kanter, and Grant have been more steadfast, though Joffrey and Jerami remain difficult to rely on. You can see the
difference in eFG% in wins vs. losses among some key Thunder contributors.
These scoring efficiency differences may seem small in magnitude — and they are — but as the season closes, makes or misses each night from the team’s role players will be the difference between a 7-seed something higher.
The league median eFG% for teams in wins and losses shows it’s somewhat trivial to say a given team shoots worse in losses — everyone does. You can expect winning teams play good D, so a team's losses should usually be the games where they shoot worse than their average. But a look at the cringeworthy tape of OKC @ WAS on Feb 13 is a shocking example of just how bad OKC’s shooting and scoring can be. And with no other great individual scorers on the team, shooting for these role players is a win-or-lose matter. When they step up, the Thunder play great. When the offensive load is on Westbrook, Oladipo, and Adams alone, they have struggled.
There’s a shitty reality when the majority of your team’s offense runs through a ball-dominating player: slow down that one player, slow down the entire engine.
Making Westbrook’s life difficult has grave implications for the scoring ability of the whole team, who have coalesced around Russ and look to him to start the show. When Westbrook is bundled up, OKC has major difficulty finding a spark. Victor Oladipo, in theory OKC’s back up Sparker-In-Chief, adds a respectable 16 PPG, but he has regressed this year, posting his lowest PER since his rookie season. Enes "The Moustached Menace" Kanter can and does create his own shots off the bench. The timetable for his return is unclear, but hopefully he'll be back in mid-March, giving a month to get in form for the playoffs. His help in securing a higher seed will be limited by the injury.
On the perimeter, the Thunder are an awful 3-shooting team at 32% and they have little skill to create shots outside of Westbrook dishing — nay,
silver plattering — them out. But even wide open looks haven't been dropping for the likes of Morrow, Roberson, Abrines, and Sabonis. Payne has shown some ability in running a bench unit as he returns from injury, but come playoff time, OKC’s offensive game plan will probably turn to Russ or Bust.
It remains to be seen if this strategy can win a seven-game series in this year's Western Conference. What’s clear is to get the 6-seed, the Thunder need to boost scoring beyond Westbrook. Whether it’s a producer to come off the bench or a shooter who can reliably make the looks Russ creates for him, OKC’s playoff future rests on the team's ability to drop shots. Kanter's return can't come soon enough, but help from the front office would be welcome. Time is running low for GM Sam Presti to make something happen in that realm. Otherwise, Oladipo, Adams, Kanter and others will need to keep making buckets for the Thunder to finish the season.
Thanks for taking the time to read... What did we leave out? Which playoff seed do you expect OKC will land this year?
