As time marches onward, new developments and technologies come along, requiring the sunsetting of that which came previously. It appears that time has come for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as Rockstar has announced the shuttering of Grand Theft Auto Online on December 16th for the antiquated yet beloved consoles.
Around 2005 and 2006, the original Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 were revealed, bringing gaming into more people's living rooms. Then in 2010, both consoles got a facelift with a "slim" version that gave upgrades and fixes to both platforms. Three years later, GTA V and GTA Online released on both consoles, beginning the saga of one of the most played video games in current history. After being enjoyed by millions of people racing, stunting, and engaging in general shenanigans akin to the Achievement Hunter group of Rooster Teeth Productions, the game moved on to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 before more recently going to the Xbox Series XS and PlayStation 5.

As we are now two console generations deeper, it is time to say goodbye to where we started the GTA Online experience. "PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of GTA Online, including website stat tracking via the Rockstar Games Social Club, will officially be shutting down on December 16th, 2021," says Rockstar's blog post. This is change comes because the company is "mov[ing] forward with updates and support for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions of Grand Theft Auto Online." Furthermore, Rockstar is working on "this Fall's launches of the new expanded and enhanced versions of Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series XS."
With this announcement, Rockstar states that it would "like to thank the GTA Online community for their continued support and look forward to seeing players continue their journey in Los Santos with us on new platforms." Though this may ultimately be a sad sunset, the future is bright for GTA moving forward.

One of the most important aspects of any open-world game is the freedom to explore and interact with the game world on your own terms. Fans are hoping for a game that allows for even greater player choice and agency, with multiple paths and options for completing missions and achieving goals.

I am not sure how to word all of this, but I have been friends with someone for a really long time. We connected before college and became really close during these college years. We are now ending our college years. Before we got to college there was not much of an issue. I think it was a matter of being online and not in person. Once we finished community college we went to the same university due to its cheap nature. We ended up in the same apartment dorm (own rooms, shared kitchen and living room), This is the start of it going downhill and for a long time I pinpointed this as the start of issues, but I think maybe it was actually me, and that by sending so much online (voice messages), I could have overloaded her or created a dynamic? They say it is okay and it helps them to clean and study like a nice podcast but maybe that is not the actual case. In these dorms a lot happened, there was big instances like the paper towel incident, I had bought paper towels (a lot of them) and I would use them to clean or pick up any spills. She then was asking why I was using the paper towels to clean up a small spill instead of a rag, and I said that it's what they are for (she then tried to re-explain what paper towels are used for) but also, I can get really bad eczema breakouts from cross contamination being to heavy, and this method has helped me a lot. She then sort of demanded to see my medical records to prove it and I sort of shut down and went into my room, and literally never touched the paper towels again. I don't know how to explain the specific energy that people give when they are like this, but it heavily triggered my parent ptsd. I ended up having a breakout so bad that I went to the hospital. We had other things happen like once we were supposed to go to the post office but our original plan changed suddenly and with new plans I did not think I had enough time to do everything I needed to do that day, so I offered that they just go because I did not think I had time, and she proceeded to interrogate me and invalidate all my concerns for time until I finally said that I just did not want to go. The other roommate then went into her room and slammed the door making me feel worse. She also brought an appliance from home and did not clean it before hand (there was roaches in it) and me and the other roommate did not want to touch her stuff, it was too late when she finally cleaned it out, an infestation had started. For most of this time I was the only one cleaning and so I did all that I could to ease the infestation and it did seem to be going down but once me and the other roommate left... we could not open a drawer without the rim being covered if we visited. There is small inbetween moments like being called stupid casually, mothering/talking over me when people ask me things. Then there was an incident at work (we ended up working in the same place, my job is really nice and she had a really bad one and so once we were hiring I swooped in and offered her), we were finishing a task and the papers we have are brought to different places and I told her that the ones she had actually go to the other place, she then started to question things again in that same way with the paper towels and the mail, I continued to explain we it is different and she let that go but not it in general and started to claim she was never taught, I said that I remember both me and another experienced employee telling them this many times (for a bit of background people kept messing up or forgetting things that we would try to teach over and over and they would blow up about not being taught), she flat out ignored this and proceeded to say sigh and say "why am I never taught these things", at this point I started to shut down and wait to leave. I had another really hard time with other friends (this one specifically is not confirmed a not so great person). Having it back to back was so bad that I was starting to spiral mentally and go back to suicidal tendencys. After that I thought that maybe I just needed a break and so I drew a firm boundary saying that I was not going to be really contacting anyone for about a few weeks, she responded in a "must be nice" type of way, I did not respond because I was a bit burnt at the time. Later that week she responded that she looked back on it and felt that it sounded rude and she also said she felt the need to apologize to her friends but she did not know why. In general it was a nice break and I felt it gave me a lot of mental room and more energy. At this time I started to feel like I was in an abuser cycle where theres an explosion and then after they are nice until there is another one but I feel like I had accidently become apart of it by trying to communicate, it seemed like I would draw a boundary and it would be respected and then they would find a new thing to cross. I also felt like by continuously trying to bring up how I felt, in order to not hold things in and build resentment I ended up being nit picky and making them feel like they are walking on glass, I know that I shell up and isolate, I can also be pretty strong willed which can be possibly invalidating to others. I feel like I was picking up these traits and displaying them to other friends, for example: I had a friend who would just be herself and I would make a mean comment like "I kinda wanna push you" I have noticed that I don't actually feel that way and I don't think it's even right to say and so I stopped, even if that friend did not think much of it, I still feel like that was something that should have never surfaced. And at the current moment I was communicating my concerns that I feel sad that my some of my friends struggle and don't take care of themselves and that even though there's a solution to a problem they might not feel they deserve to take up the space needed to solve them or simply can't for reasons of mental health, and how I feel about friendship in general and some behaviors that make me feel bad. I was also noting that I want to grow and be a healthy person and I feel like I can't because of how negative the environment is around me. She responded and said that for her she is just stating something and did not view it as negative... that small piece of information gave me so much more prospective. She said that she also has her own complaints, but she does not say them because she does not want to hurt me or for me to build resentment and when I do something that hurts, she sort of just cry's alone and brushes it off. Which made me feel super defeated because I was very worried about creating an eggshell environment in the first place and still did. I also have things I have hide as well, but specifically it has to do with her partner. She is with someone who had really creepy behavior towards me when I was younger, but I say nothing because they seem to have a happy relationship- also she has stated that she does not want to know. I also feel that when I bring up concerns, I know she is trying and takes notes to fix it... but I feel like in the same way she mimicked her mom during the mail/paper towel incidents, by constantly giving her things to "fix" I could just be mimicking another toxic presence, I don't want to try to force her into a mold that isn't herself. Even though she has concerns she can't seem to bring herself to communicate them or communicate often so I know it's hard for her. Other people have noticed our friendship and have told me they noticed but they did not think it was their place to say anything. There's been some touchy "no offense" situations in relation to race, and grooming. Most of these moments or blow ups happen when she is really stressed in her life, in the same way that some people get angry when they don't eat.
At this point, I am unsure what to do. No one will tell me what I am doing wrong, and when I communicate it hurts others, but if I hold it in, it rots inside of me. I want to talk with them rather than at them, but it seems that's not fully something I can really do. We both have trauma backgrounds for her with friends and parents, for me it is friends, parents and also some SA situations. I don't want to hurt the people I am around I feel like I am crazy thinking of all these situations, but I don't think I am innocent either. I was tempted to leave but I know she has had so many friends walk out of her life. I don't know what to do, I feel like maybe we are just both unhealed and traumatized. I will say that I am having no big issues like this with any other friends, I have had toxic friends (or just a friend) before but never a situation like this. On one end if I am the problem, it means I'm in the best place to solve the issue, but if I'm not it could mean separating from someone, I'm super close with. I genuinely feel like I am crazy at this point, because I also think she is a good person- this post is me isolating situations and I don't know what problems she's facing with me. And I could be misinterpreting her?

Just in case you aren't aware dear reader, Grand Theft Auto is kind of a cultural phenomenon. The fifth game, particularly its internet component (known simply as "GTA Online"), is by some measures the most successful video game of all time. Naturally, anticipation for GTA 6 is running high, and any tiny tidbit of information is tantalizing to the fans who have been waiting since 2013 for an taste of the new game.

Well, the latest teaser comes from a somewhat-unlikely but perhaps unsurprising source: Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson. The longtime rapper hasn't published that much music recently, but that's probably because he's been focused on building his media empire, instead: for more than a decade he's been lending his name, funds, and creative talent to a multitude of films and TV shows. Among those was the show "Power" which ran from 2014 to 2020, and was well-regarded by fans.
Apparently, what "Fifty" is working on now is "even bigger than Power," at least according to a recent tweet by him. What's that have to do with Grand Theft Auto? Along with the message, he tweeted the Vice City logo. Vice City is all-but-confirmed to be the locale of the next Grand Theft Auto game, which means that Jackson is likely going to play a role of some kind—possibly a major role—in Grand Theft Auto 6.

If so, then Jackson will join the grand tradition of celebrity voice actors in "GTA" games. It's not hard to imagine a role for the 47-year-old performer within the world of Grand Theft Auto. His pseudonym was inspired by an infamous criminal from the 1980s, and many of his raps are about his experiences on the streets.
Grand Theft Auto 6 has no release date; Rockstar has barely even confirmed that the game exists. A major leak last year revealed surprisingly little aside from confirmation that the game will have multiple protagonists including a Latin woman named Lucia. Recent leaks include that the game will apparently feature bleeding-edge tech including "ahead of its time" water simulation—a perfect fit given the game's tropical Vice City setting.

One of the things that made Grand Theft Auto V so successful was its online mode, GTA Online. Players could team up with friends and complete missions together, or compete in races and other activities. It's likely that Rockstar Games will continue to focus on online play in GTA 6, but whether it will be as successful remains to be seen. With the popularity of games like Fortnite and Apex Legends, there's a lot of competition in the online gaming space.

It seems like we have been hearing rumors about Grand Theft Auto 6 since the beginning of time, though in reality, it has only been almost that long. If you were hoping for some clarity with a release finally being around the bend, well, brace yourself—we could be in for several more years of rumors, not just weeks or even months.
Naturally, the folks at Rockstar Games are not offering up any juicy tidbits about the inevitable release. So everything we know, or think we know, has come by way of leaks and rumors. To that end, multiple leakers are reporting that GTA 6 might not come out until 2024 or even sometime 2025. As things stand right now, YouTuber Tom Henderson says the next version of GTA is very early in development.
Henderson notes that, historically, he has not been associated with GTA leaks (he's been more plugged into the Battlefield scene), but the information he shared in a YouTube video is based on what he has heard from multiple sources. He is not the only one that is hearing GTA 6 is still several years away from being released, either.

Given the success of GTA Online, it seems Rockstar Games might not be in a rush to push out another major release. At the same time, it's said the developer is focusing "very heavily on employee well being," which in part means avoiding the crunch that precedes a game's release. However, there is at least one other factor at play as well.
It's said GTA 6 will launch on PC and the latest generation game consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S). By taking its time in releasing GTA 6, Rockstar Games will have a much wider audience of compatible console owners to drum up sales. And while not mentioned, the same could be true in the PC space, as hopefully discrete GPUs will be plentiful again by the the time GTA 6 arrives.
As for the setting, Henderson says GTA 6 will in fact mark a return to Vice City. Rockstar Games may opt to add more locations to the map over time (post launch), but it looks like a modern take on Vice City is headed to the GTA universe.
Given how much we had playing Grand Theft Auto V when it came to PC several years ago (and still holds up today), we're excited to see what GTA 6 brings to the table, even if it means waiting another 3-4 years.
