So ill try keep this as short as possible (its a long story). I decided to separate from my wife at the beginning of the year. I am in the armed forces in the UK and we were based about 500miles from our home. Her first initial reaction was that she wanted to quit her job, take our 2 small children and move in with her parents (who live near our home far away) I asked her to stay but she wanted to be with her "support network". She also originally wanted to move into our joint home with me to pay the full mortgage and bills indefinitely, regardless of her own income/job status. I managed to convince her to stay for a few months while I tried to get a transfer. I got a transfer approved (at some detriment to my career) and she quit her job and moved in with her folks a month before I transferred. Solicitors letters started getting sent to get the ball rolling on our custody, assets etc. It was agreed originally verbally that I would have the children 3 nights a week when I transferred, the closest thing to 50/50 I can manage on a shift pattern. Annual leave would likely bring this avg up anyways.
2 weeks after she moved she started complaining about income and wanting child maintenance. I did a child maint calculator online and offered her the full amount based on 3nights a week. She was unsatisfied by this and asked me to add my half of the rental income we get for renting out our house. I called the child maint service and they said its only profit (if any) that gets added to this. I added the profit (even though its not declared) and the amount went up by £5 per month. I paid her and she was still unsatisfied. All of a sudden she decides that my military accommodation (which consists of an en suite room bigger than a hotel room with 2 double beds, kitchen area and separate bathroom) is unsuitable for the children to stay in and that the 3 nights a week will not be granted. Instead I am to have the children every second weekend with 2 "non-residential periods" during the week with no overnight stays during the week during school term since "this will be disruptive to their routine and therefore their education" and that "child maintenance is to be reassessed based on this". I went to the child maint service myself and said that I believe that this was a power move to get more money from me by using the kids. They said that the default is to pay the cost of 1 overnight stay per week if there is a dispute. turns out she contacted them and asked for them to charge me to the avg of 0 overnight stays per night! Until a court order or separation agreement is in place, 1 night per week is the rate I have to pay by order of the Child Maint Service.
I just want to see my kids as much as possible, my lawyer has asked her to provide assurance that I will have the kids 3 nights a week if I stay somewhere else but so far 2 letters have been ignored by her and her solicitor with only offers on the financial side of the separation (splitting on my pension, savings and buying out of the house). I would have taken her to court by now but my solicitor suggested doing some negotiations through letters first since she is completely unwilling to negotiate or discuss the matter in person or over text. Phrases have been thrown around by her like "i am their legal guardian" "it's not my fault" "you chose this" and "i will not be bullied by you" whenever i question her decision or motives. Now I am on deployment for 4 months since December and her lawyer still sent a letter in December asking me to buy or sell the house. My lawyer replied saying i am on deployment so nothing can be done but a childcare agreement would also have to be in place. 2 months passed and its clear my ex is under pressure from her parents and the rising mortgage for something to change, her lawyer sent another letter saying that I am being obstructive and that it may escalate to a court order to force the sale of the house. So we replied saying I'll buy the house but when I move in I want the children 3 nights a week + holidays....its been 4 weeks and still nothing back. In addition I return home next week and I asked to have the kids for 2 weeks. But this was denied. I was told I could only have them for 1 week despite being gone 4 months over Christmas.
This is more of a rant than an ask for help as I know I should just do the whole court thing but has anyone got any other suggestions/advice/warnings?

I’m applying for a job with my county and the employer called me asking for a home visit and I feel like that’s kind of weird. Is this a thing the county does or is this kind of bizarre circumstance.

I'm not a perfect bird owner, for what it's worth, but I try pretty hard to give my guys a good life. With that said, I had to unfollow posts from my local bird FB group last week because it was driving me up the wall—just an endless trainwreck of people who either don't know or don't care about meeting basic standards of care. Terrible diet advice, crappy breeders selling unweaned babies, photos of birds in tiny, dirty cages with no toys, people telling new owners to forcibly grab their terrified birds and hold them to hand-tame them. The post that pushed me over was somebody asking how to treat a beak wound on a poor little budgie that was being permanently housed in a travel cage WITH A RINGNECK. It makes my heart ache, and I've spent a lot of time in the past trying to gently direct people towards info on how to care for their birds better—but most people react terribly when they feel like their animal husbandry is being judged. It's so hard not to say something when you see it though. The sale posts are even worse, because all I want to do is bring all these poor birds home even though it does nothing to teach the owners better.

1). This deal is 170M upfront with another 30M by 2026 for a total guaranteed of 200M. This is compared to 450M upfront and promissory note of 150M or 600M. JC accepted a deal that has 67% less in guaranteed payments. No wonder JC accepted the offer with KPI only after Catapult was terminated. It is like you selling a house for 600K, that buyer cannot get funding and you accepted a 200K offer + 8% of the rental profit instead.
2). Where JC tries to savage this is royalty upside and the headnote up to 900M. Except the royalty is back end loaded (stretch goals) with a profit level indicator, not revenue.
As an example, say profit is 75%, KPI achieves $1B in licensing revenue over say 5 years to earn 750M in profit. The royalty is 40M for the first 500M in profit and then 37.5M for the next 250M. The Total royalty is 77.5M putting the total value of the deal at 277.5M.
Good luck to KPI earning 1B in licensing to achieve 750M in profit. (It is possible the first 200M is not profit for KPI (return of capital) and that 750M in profit is just a mere 550M in royalty base or a royalty of 42M from 750M in profits).
KPI breakeven point is ~ 210M in profit to recover the payment to BB. Everything above that is profit. They can realize 400M in profit and justify closing this deal making 150M in profit.
The Royalty % is upside down for BB shareholders and makes no sense. To earn the royalty, the patents have to hit a home run. To earn 900M, that KPI entity have to earn a 2.2B in profit, LMFAO. Might as well call it a 10B patent sales if KPI makes 30B from patents. This is basically a 200-280M sale.
3). Timing and execution failure. JC reported patents were up for sale back in December 2020 and identified Catapult as the exclusive buyer back in March 2021. In January 2022, they agreed to the 450M + 150M. 2020-2021 is characterized as the cheapest access to capital and they missed that window. Just like stocks, intangibles go down and patent value tanked while JC was waddling in 2021.
4) Failure to monetize? Why on this green earth did JC stop their licensing business back in March 2021 and missed 24 months+ of licensing revenue, in which they could have made 500M anyway? JC himself said 6-9 months and ended up 24+ months.
5) Failure to drum up interest. This deal was so called closed to non-Canadian companies so it is pigeoned holed to Catapult. Then KPI comes along and it is nothing Canadian. So which is it? How do you sell a house and only find 2 prospects globally in 2 years. Does JC even know what he is doing? If all you are looking to sell to patent trolls, of course it is all about ROI and risk for them and the offer will suk. Can't they find a strategic buyer that needs the patents like Nokia, Motorola did?
6) Failure in transparency: Let's be real here. JC have been unforthcoming and not trustworthy. How many times have he talked about I can't comment on Catapult so please don't ask becuase I can't tell anway, must by 4-5 quarters of the same thing. Why can't he be forthcoming even back in Dec that Catapult deal in trouble, instead of we are real close, real close, imminent, optimistic. And then one analysis ask about the other offer and JC plainly said it is in the same ballpark. I have to laugh how 600M and 200M guaranteed is even the same ballpark. Just truly epic fail of a person

My grandmother passed one year ago, and her will stated that her estate be left to her children (father, aunts), and the house contents to her grandchildren (myself and one cousin). Probate has only recently been granted.
Not sure how relevant, but to make sure the information is complete, my grandmother's property is divided into two, and I have lived in the smaller part for 12 years (paying rent, apart from the two years of covid and the year since my grandmother passed). I had been caring for my grandmother from around 2015 through to her passing.
My family have been taking items from the house since she passed, throwing items away, or telling my cousin and I 'you can't have that, it's mine'. I have not said much about this, having expressed disappointment but that I don't want to fall out over possessions.
I'm asking for advice now, as my family have started clearance of my grandmother's property while my cousin and I are abroad and unable to be there. This is because they want to put both properties on sale as fast as possible. Of course this means I am on countdown to having to leave my home, and I don't want my sadness/resentment about this to inform my feeling that their actions are wrong.
I guess I am asking what, if any, rights my cousin and I have. Should the property be being cleared of contents while we are not there, and do they have a right to pressure us to do it quickly in order to sell the houses? Even without that thought, I wouldn't see myself as anything to brag about if I didn't give someone a chance based on their legal employment basis or earnings. And if I did, Id only be fooling myself, because I'd be caught in so many fallacies.
Real world Example: At $12/hour, working full time, as a single person with no dependents, opting for pre-tax deductions of insurances, and then using the adjusted value accordingly to continue on with Federal/State/Local (in my case I dont even have local taxes).
One would net $687/Bi-weekly. That is $1,374/Month. You'd have a hard time finding a place to rent alone, for less than $1000. And that doesnt include utilities.

Hes gonna need more than rice and beans to keep up that life of high pay, but still manages to get groceries down to $100/Week. $400/Month. Now, mind you that includes sales tax, so its less than what may come to mind! This guy is not getting a room that cheap in an area where he wouldn't also need a car, lets use some reason here. But hes savy as they come baby. He blew his savings for that $8,000 2003 Corolla. Insurance is pecking at him for $120/month, could be worse. Now, we've reached a point where he now has less than $300 across the month to fulfill: Medical Co-Pays, Auto Maintenance, Gasoline, Any form of eating out/entertainment, All clothing, Furniture, A phone, A computer, Student loans, credit cards, emergency health services, haircuts, and everything else that life demands of us even without a kid.
It would be nothing short of remarkable for this individual who is financially independent to save $10/month. Working 40 hours/week is exhausting too, doesnt leave much time for taking care of things yourself, which can be costly too.

So, $20/hour, at relatively low costs of living, isn't anything sustainable long term. Sure are alot of people on Reddit who claim "I make this and Im independent and Im fine!" Im sure their story of pulling up their bootstraps by themselves and maintaining any dignity of life are more so part of a narrative they hold; rather than real-world finance.
Call it all bullshit if you want. I go by the numbers. Job or no job, you're not in a fairy tale. You're in a loose labor market, where fiduciary duty to shareholders/company agents are law. Not owed to you, but to the investors/company agents. I haven't even touched on the fucked up realm of costs and income when having a kid is involved, a health condition, care taking, or any other situation which can wreck everything. SaaS has been offsetting jobs for a decade, AI is too, and there is not homogeneous opportunity across the US.
Its incredible to me, how unaware so many people are. They can't be bothered to comprehend that the majority of problems for people in the U.S. stem from inequity and lack of money. The mental health implications of having to accommodate the need for money to survive and stay out of prison, and the mental health implications from people who internalize these things as if it was their fault. As if they were born as the problem. As if their emotions and life were wrong and despicable. So much of posts here can be attributed to a lack of resources and the implications of it. Resources are sent to the dumpster en masse, not because they are truly unusable, but solely so that we cannot have it, without handing over enough money. Buried in the earth, just to make damn sure, those people dont get em.
So, before you even *suggest* that someone isn't trying, isn't worthy, doesn't care, because of not having a job, not having their own place, not having their own car, not getting the healthcare they need, not being able to afford participation in things, or even afford being a parent... Remember. You're more than likely, calculably wrong. And promoting the internalization of capitalism and the moral construct of poverty. You would fit right in, with the category of scum in society, what keeps it so horrible, and what holds humanity back.

My name is Saitama. I'm 25 years old. My house is in A-City, where many Heroes live, and I am not married. I work as an A-rank Hero for the Hero Association, and I get home every day by midnight at the latest. I do not smoke nor drink. I'm in bed by 3 AM, and make sure I get five hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm water before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I had no issues heading to the previous bargain sale at the supermarket. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who is a Hero for fun. I take care not to use too much of my effort dealing with most enemies, as the waste of effort would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with villains, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight at 100% seriousness, I wouldn't lose to anyone.
