This is the official subreddit for Trade Winds, the Elder Scrolls Online guild. Founded during beta on the 28th of February in the year 2014, Trade Winds is ESO's first guild. With a good mix of hardcore vets and new players, we do it all, even fishing! So send us an invitation request, then sit back, relax, and let the Trade Winds guide your sails to a better ESO experience.

2023.03.22 03:36 snapegrassrunner I worked out the mathematically optimal teleports to solve Master Clue Hot Cold steps.

I searched around today and was surprised that there was no information on what teleports to take to optimally solve the hot cold steps for master clues. I decided to give it a go and it ended up taking several hours to solve. The main problem was combining the 116 possible locations with every teleport on the map and optimizing distance and cardinal direction to get a warmer result from the Strange Device. I'm not 100% certain that this is absolutely the optimal method, but it is very very close.

  1. Start at the crafting guild, because it is basically the center of the world map.
  2. Teleport to Trollheim, if it is warmer skip to step 6.
  3. If Trollheim was colder, teleport to the outpost using a necklace of passage.
  4. If outpost is warmer skip to step 7, otherwise teleport to the Gem Mine using Karamja Gloves.
  5. If Gem Mine is warmer skip to step 8, otherwise teleport to the Duel Arena then skip to step 9.

6) If Trollheim was warmer: Piscatorius fishing colony, if that hasn't warmed it much > it's in the Wilderness. F. Use the burning amulet teleports to lock in the location.
7) If outpost was warmer: Piscatorius fishing colony, if that hasn't warmed it much > Fedlip hills, if that didn't help much go to Kourend Castle.
8) If Gem Mine was warmer: Fedlip hills, if that hasn't warmed it much >Desert Treasure Pyramid.
9) If Duel Arena was warmer: Slayer Tower > if that hasn't warmed it much go to Desert Treasure pyramid. If that didn't warm it your step is in wilderness. F. Use the burning amulet teleports to lock in the location.

On average this method will take an average of 3 teleports at worst 6. This allows you to triangulate the approximate location. Clue helper should be able to take over from here and you can just run. Do note I had to exclude kourend because working with a square world map was much easier for my high-school level math. If anyone has better solutions to this problem let me know, this is the best I could do, hopefully it helps some people.

2023.03.22 01:31 roidymagoo2 Best gathering/life skills with long term enjoyment

RuneScape is my baseline as I started with that in 2002, but in kind of done with it.
I’m always on the lookout for a satisfying, chill game with good life skills, wondering if there’s any that I’ve missed.
I’ve tried and enjoyed:
Guild wars 2, ESO, all RuneScapes, project Gorgon.
I’ve tried and disliked:
BDO, LOTRO and Mabinogi (tiny/awful UIs), FF14 (zzz).
Ultima outlands, too tiny and way to nostalgia based to enjoy. Just…god.
Tried and not sure if to pursue further:
Albion Online (I like the loot system and how everything is required, but I’m not a huge pvp guy, I’m kinda drawn to play it again). Fish seemed valuable which is my favourite skill.
Gloria Victis (played a bit, but wasn’t really drawn in as much as I’d hoped, low fantasy is my fave too)
New world (only played the open beta, the gathering seemed awesome but the world and quests had no soul, no idea if it’s worth playing now)
Other than that, I’m not sure what else is out there and may be decently populated?

2023.03.21 21:26 Adventurous_Side_597 Appreciation post Varamexia

So Varamexia is a great game been out for a few years now and I feel like it gets over looked a ton! If you love pbbg type games this is something you need to check out. It’s similar to syrnia, movoda, and amaranthine. There are many skills you can do ex. Woodcutting, fishing, mining, and combat are just a few. Has a very devoted player base all of them friendly and willing to help you in the game from the very start. There are a bunch of guilds and even boss fights we’re anyone can jump in and tackle it together. The economy in this game has no ends. It’s honestly one of the most well thought out and out together games I’ve ever seen. So please come check it out!

2023.03.21 14:13 Makkel AMA: I am a researcher at the university of Jeliza, who focus on studying Magic and the paranormal, ask me anything!

Hello, my name is Regal Sadfael, and I am a researcher in the History and Archaeology department in the university of Jeliza. I am also the co-founder of “the Three Weirdos”, an unofficial laboratory that specializes in studying the paranormal. Finally, I also do freelance detective work, mostly interested in paranormal and Magic-related cases.
You may have heard about Magic as this strange force of life that some learned to control, that is fearful and frightening and sometimes even taboo. You may also have heard some horror stories about disfigured mages and killing fields, about how mages are not the one actually in control of magic but are merely puppets in the hands of Demons, about the fact that mages need to leave something of their soul to do Magic, or a bunch of other things that made you fear Magic. Depending on where you live, you may have heard that Magic is reserved to some beings, such as the winged-people, the Annucals, or a happy-few Nobility selected by the Gods. Or, most probably, you may have heard legends and stories of which you don’t believe a single word.
Well, forget everything you think you know, because not all of it is true. Not all of it is false, either.
Let me tell you a bit about Magic, and why it is a force to be reckoned with. Why Magic is so feared in our world, while being also one of the greatest gift made to us.
What exactly is Magic? Magic is a Force that runs through the world. It flows from a dimension parallel to our own, called the Within-world. This dimension is not really a place, but more like a world of ideas and thoughts that coexist with our own, on top of it, parallely. Most people would never interact with the Withinworld and most of the creatures living in the Withinworld would not be aware of us either – as they are beings of pure thoughts, they could not materialise in our world without help either. Mages are, simply speaking, able to draw upon the energy of the Withinworld and exchange it with some of our world’s energy, drawing from either their body, their soul, their spirit or the matter around them. What actually comes from the Withinworld is hard to grasp, and even harder to describe. It is pure abstraction, the power of im-agination, or thoughts, concepts that happen to have aim, they are beings of pure abstraction and will. Some of these entities are very weak, and most of the time they are immediately sucked into whatever spell or hex the Mage is throwing. Sometime they actually have some strength, and use the Mage as much as the Mage is using them – this is the main reason why Magic is a dangerous thing and from these cases come most of the frightening stories you might have heard about Magic. The will of the Mage is pulled from the Withinworld, and woven into reality, but because what comes is so ab-stract, the effect of Magic is actually very dependent on the Mage and their personality.
I identified five main types of Magic, based on what is used to fuel and the type of effect these Mages can at-tain. Each one allows the user to manipulate a force of the world, allowing for four main types of powers. Here is a graphical representation from my latest publication titled “Classifying and un-derstanding the Magical Arts”. (Keep in mind this model is entirely theoretical, and by no means should it be seen as the truth. For other theories, you can refer at the Theory of Magic and Colours (Noriod, Meike et al., 1971) the Numerical Model of Magic (Nollarda, 1976) and at the Energetic Theories of Magic by Zerradnol (1981). An older source with some very interesting concepts is the Alchemy treaties by Qallaravos Norivarios, in the XI century. )
At the centre of it all lies the power of Stability, but it is still widely unknown and not understood very well. It looks like it is mostly a passive magic, that is linked to understanding, feeling and having an empathetic bond with Magic at a fundamental level, but virtually no records exist as to what this can do or not.
Some examples of things that mages I met during my life can do: - As you may know, the wings of the Annucals are typically too small to sustain flight. The average Annucal may be able to raise above the ground for a second or glide over air for a time, should they jump from a high point, but they don’t really fly. Except for this girl I met, Malkina, who effectively uses her power of Khôramancy to heat up the air currents below herself, as well as increase the span and force of her wings muscles. This allows her to really fly like a bird. Some records seem to mention that Annucals from Tellagis and Köllmer were using this same technique to battle some centuries ago. - Jyuzi is a young sailor, a Commodore of the Boatmen Guild, who uses the same brand of magic to manipulate water currents in the Thousand-Seas. He is employed on a cargo ship, and is using his power to allow his crew to go through difficult passages without much hassle. I saw him with my own eyes manipulate the sea around us, allow-ing our ship to accelerate as if we a strong current was pushing us ahead, while a band of pirates in a fishing boat was lagging behind, fighting against contrary waves. - Vohik is a shaman living on the coasts of Alnaro, and a windspeaker. His Animancy allows him to listen to the winds, telling him about what is happening on his land – they tell him where his herd of sheep are roaming at the moment, and where predators might lurk, they tell where fish shoals are and where to throw his nets, they tell what weather is coming up and when they are carrying rain clouds. - Geirgre is an old creepy guy I don’t really like. He claims to be more than four hundred years old and, quite frankly, looks like it. He showed me once how he could hear the whispering of the deads. This person had been killed three days before, and the police was at loss, but Geirgre was able to ask the corpse who stabbed them and what the circumstances were. He claimed to hear the ghost and had it tell the whole story – the culprit did confirm everything not long after. - My friend Fabios, from the beautiful city-state of Alliance, is a Psychomagus. Psychomagi are a very secretive clan, who have a hand in all pies in the region. Fabios himself is working on behalf of the police. His role is to make sure the people in the interrogation rooms are telling the truth. He is inducing suggestion not to lie to these peo-ple, which usually is strong enough to compel them to tell the truth or, at least, look like crap while they lie. Of course, he is a freelancer and ultimately working for the Psychomagi, meaning that sometimes other interests are at play and he may sometimes receive orders to ensure certain truths remain untold. - One of my regular employers is Alaric Korkeff, the lead scientist from Petal Ltd., the genetic research company. Mr. Korkeff has been working with Magic for quite some time, and experimenting with what it can do. He studies several subjects, analysing how they can shape their body and how Neomagic changes them and their genetic makeup. While I am not clear on the sciencey gibberish, I can tell you that this guy Tunk is quite impressive: his most defining feature is a freakishly long right arm that touches the ground, with greenish skin and long wiry mus-cles. Tunk does not look like much, but his green right arm can break a brick wall with a small push. - My last example is not a person but a place. The Space Temple is very impressive. The mages there, the Tem-porists Monks, have been studing Khôramancy for centuries. Not only can they move fluidly like no other, they also created a network of Portals, all pointing to their temple, giving access to a bunch of different places around the world. In a single corridor of the temple, a row of doors upon doors can give you access to any country you might fancy, this one goes into an office in Kalcot while the one next to it accesses a crack between rocks in the Chain Mountains, or a cellar in Asgamance. One of the High-Temporists works from a corner office in the temple that has two windows on the wall. The one to his right opens on a Sitaa-Daiese beach blowing warm winds with the sooth-ing sound of crashing waves, while the one ahead is showing a stunning view of the frozen moors of Jädet, hun-dreds of kilometers away.
How do I do Magic? In order to use magic, a mage needs several things: - The mage themself, needs to be clear of mind and have received a formal training. Usually years of training are a minimal requirement to be able to use Magic. - A catalyst, acting as a physical bond between the Within and the Magic. - Magical Energy. Depending on the type of magic, it might be fuelled through the body, the mind, the spirit or matter.
This is of course very high-level concepts, and the actual things would vary a lot depending on what is needed. The catalysts can differ from mage to mage. Depending on the area of the world or the need, different tech-niques have been developed. Typically, it will come in the form of Runes, Glyphs or symbols. The way they are done has importance: carving runes or painting glyphs will have subtle differences, even if the magic called upon is simi-lar. This is why it is very rare to see two mages perform the same magic exactly. Some examples of techniques used across the globe: - Catalyst items. Some mages use an object, usually something that have a strong bond with their state of mind or personality, to draw their magic. A stick or a staff, a piece of clothing, a magical weapon, a ring or an accessory... The item would need to be infused with magical symbols and act as a link between the mage and the energies they use to perform magic. - Throwaway items such as clay tablets, playing cards, or grenades. Some mages prefer to have their items be a one-off catalyst, rather than going through the hassle of forming a bond with it. It can be interesting when the ef-fect is dangerous, for example Destruction hexes, or for some cases such as carving runes inside a bottle to make a potion more potent. - Some can carve or draw Runes or power circles directly where they need the magic to happen, be it a place, a room, or a person. Demonists typically draw power circles on the floor, in order to call upon Demons from the Withinworld and use their power. Some mages tattoo magical symbols directly on their own, or somebody else’s, skin.
The steps to do Magic: The first step would be to create a Magical Effect and accumulate the magic. This is typically done by drawing magical symbols. Depending on what Symbols are used and how they are done, the effects can vary: whether the user uses Runes, Glyphs or Kanjis, whether they are carved, drawn or traced, the tool used (a style or a brush, a pen or a quill), the support (clay or paper, stone or skin…) and the medium (ink or blood, melted metal poured in a carving…). This step looks very different from mage to mage, one might spend hours carefully carving a staff and pouring their own blood in the Runes, while another might quickly draw some Kanjis in ink on some pieces of paper to scatter in the wind. The Mage would then need to throw the spell, getting it to perform the effect. This is done through their will only, exchanging something from our world with the Magical energy from the Withinworld. It could be a one-off thing (a clay tablet, carved with Catharsis Runes, would be hidden in the ground and explode like a mine), a more subtle spell (a bracelet carved with Psychomagic Symbols, granting a mage power to read the emotions of the wearer) or even long lasting effects (a storage room where some Runes calling upon Coldness have been carved, staying beyond freezing temperatures for as long as the mage can sustain it).
This is just a very light intro on the vast and complex subject that is Magic. Ask me anything about it.

2023.03.21 11:07 Edward-Oakley The other two chapters of my submission

Chapter Three: Too Big to Fail?
Amelia and Noele raced towards Dunwich at breakneck speeds and arrived only minutes after their departure from Longbarrow.
Amelia put down Noele, who looked a little green in her face. At least she hadn’t started to scream. Some adventures did that, even A-ranks. Especially A-ranks.
As they walked through the gate a man in the coat of arms of Dunwich stepped forth, seemingly a city guard. Instead of a sword he carried a clipboard.
“Halt. For entreance you first need to pay headtax. Three copper per person.”
Amelia fished her adventurers badge out of her pocket and showed it the guardsman. “No we don’t. We are members of the adventurers guild:”
The guard shook his head. “Yeah, new law from city hall. Adventurers are no longer exempt from head tax. In fact, have you fought any monsters in the wilds?”
Noele glanced at Amelia. “I think you might have clipped a griffin on the way here.”
The guard nodded and scribbeled something down on his clipboard. “That means we have to add a small tax for that. All ressources around the city, including monsters, belong to the city after all.”
“But we didn’t even kill it.”, exclaimed Noele.
“Ah. That adds a charge animal cruelty. There is a fine for that.” The guard added another note to his clipboard. “Also, did you happen to travel on the road?”
Amelia thought about that for a moment. She had mostly stuck to low jumps just over the foliage, but they had landed on the street occassionally.
“Yeah, briefly.”
“Ah, bad news then. That road is privatly owned now, so that adds a small
toll.”
Amelia rolled her eyes at this insanity. “All of these taxes and fines, are these recent additions? Proposed by some oversized lizard in a suit?”
“You mean Mr. Goldentooth? Yes, that oversized lizard has spearheaded a great deal of reforms. Has even taken office in the city hall. By the way, lizard-calling is a serious misdemeanor. There is a fine for that.”
“But you just called him a lizard too?
“Have I?”, asked the guard.
“Alright, how about you let us through and I won’t tell anybody.”
The guard gave Amelia a stern look.”Are you attempting to blackmail a member of the city watch?”
“If that is was it takes for you to let us through that blasted gate, then yes.”, Amelia said flatly.
The watchman frowned at her. “There is a fine for that. Five silver.”
Amelia sighed. “All of this is ridiculous.”
“You see, Miss. I am just doing my job here. If you have problems with the city’s tax or law code, then you have to file a complaint at the city hall and not annoy overworked guards.”
Amelia gave the guard a flat look. “And how do we logde a complaint at your city hall, when you don’t let us in?
The guard blinked “Hm. I guess I see your point.”
“So you let us in? We just want to logde a complaint.”
“But you haven’t paid your headtax, your adventuring tax, the street toll and the fines for animal cruelty and lizard-calling . I can’t let you through this gate like this.”
Noele grasped her coinpurse in resignation: “How much is it in total then?”
“Altogether that would be 16 gold and 3 silver coins. Per person, of course. Though I would advice to make it an even 20 gold pieces by purchasing the premium city pass. That’s a real bargain by the way, and would allow you to skip the wait time and fast track the organisational stuff.”
Amelia wasn’t from this world and had already amassed a small fortune. The bounty for the Miststorm riders alone would pay the fees and fines for both of them more than 50 times over. Still she balked at the price. This was her retirement fund after all. She also wouldn’t force her student to pay for her. That would be unbecoming of her, as she was Noele’s mentor.
She gave the golden-eyed fool one last glance. For just a moment she thought about giving him the Leander-treatment and literally bash some sense in that guys head. Instead she did the mature and adult thing and picked Noele by her belt. Noele groaned. She knew what would happen. Amelia flexed her calves and handily leaped over the 20 meter wall.
The guard blinked in surprise for a moment. Then he yelled: “You are in breach of the airborne transportation act! THERE. IS. A. FINE. FOR. THAT!”
Business was doing good. No, even better. Business was doing great. Gildroy gazed fondly at the enormous crates and chests, all filled with beautifully shining gold.
There was a sudden crashing sound, like wood breaking. Gildroy instantly stood up. Had one of the unpaid interns dropped a chest with money again?
He sprinted from the vault into the main room. There he saw Amelia and Noele, standing atop the splintered door.
“Ahem. Hello. The door was mahagony. Kinda pricy to replace. Please use the doornob the next time.”, he scolded
Amelia had an angry scowl on her face. “You owe me two silver and a new window.
Oh. Gildroy had already forgotten about that. Two pieces of silver.
“Oh. I forgot. My bad.”, said Gildroy. He drew his purse and pulled out a few coins. “Here you go:”
Amelia pocketed the money. “Also you are going to stop this insanity you have going on here. Give everyone their money back and I’ll let you live:”
Gildroy blinked in surprise. “You can’t be sirious, right?”
Amelia put a hand on her sword. “I am.”
Gildroy shook his head.”Never.”
Amelia smiled. “I had hoped for that. I wanted to punch you inyour lizard-visage since I met you.”
Gildroy scowled, What a barbarian.
Noele put a hand on her master’s shoulder. “Please let me have this fight. You told me, that only by challenging myself further I can grow truly strong.”
Amelia rolled her eyes. “Alright. He’s yours. Maybe this fight pushes you to S-rank.”
Gildroy shook his head. Such gall, but Norah had been much the same.
“Well, I did promise a spar.”, he said, as he armed himself with a purse filled with platinum coins.
[Nobleflame Armor]”
Golden flames coated Norah, forming into a brestplate. Very fashionable, but gold was always fashinable.
Gildroy countered with his own armor skill[ Armor of Gold] . As if carried by invible hands coins floated from the vault towards the drakling, on whom they arranged themselves like a secondary set of scales.
“Go on, you have the first strike”, he said as he picked a platinum coin from his purse.
And strike she did. Noele teleported behind him and swung her sword at him.
[Elegant Noble Slash] and [Unending Dauntless Fury]” she yelled, as she descendet into a flurry of blows.
Gildroy flicked a platinum coin. It disappeard and time slowed down to a crawl. He walked out of her attack, then the flow of time resumed.
Noele stared at the empty spot she hit repeatedly. “How? She muttered.”
“Would you kindly hurry up with your attack?”, asked Gildroy a little giddy. These fights were always fun! “[Time is Money], after all.”
[Unending Dauntless Fury] “
[Time is Money]
Noele hit nothing again.
“Noele, he can’t attack while he stops time.”, Amelia told her student.
“Besides, it is more of a potent time-slow. A hard hitting area-of-effect attack will still hit”.
Gildroy scowled at her. “Hey, the best part of any fight is to figure out how the enemie’s skills work. How will she learn anything if you take that away from her.”
Noele tried to go for a cheap shot while he talked. A quick flick of a coin brought Gildroy to safety.
“Well, now it is time for me to strike back, it would seem.”
Gildroy barreled into her. Noele stood her ground, defending with her sword. “[Titans’s Strength]”, she yelled.
Gildroy pushed back with his own strength skill. “[Gold is Strength]”, he barked. For a moment they seemed equally matched, claw against sword, but then Gildroy gained the upper hand. An A-ranked skill just couldn’t compete with an S-ranked skill.
Noele was launched through the air and impacted the wall. Gildroy flicked another platinum and time slowed for him. He dashed towards her and delivered a crushing blow just as the time-slow ended. Noele was thrown back again, this time through the wall and into the main plaza of Dunwich.
Noele quickly found back to er feet. “Big area-of-effect spells, huh? For that I have something. [Golrious Noble Slash]
All of a sudden her sword increased in size manyfold, and she swung it a Gildroy with ferocity.
Gildroy knew, he could not dodge this one with his time-slow, but tried anyways. His golden armor cracked under the barrage of blows and he flew back, towards a crowd of people.
Amelia moved with extreme speed and dragged multiple peole out of the line of fire. Luckily, because far too many people here had purchase [Life Insurance] from him. Should they come to harm…. he’d be ruined.
Oh dear. If he took another hit like that he’d lose his status as an hexillionaire.
Gildroy felt his control over his customers slipping. Quickly he summond up a bit of [Investor]-Widom to once again tighten his grip: ”People, the market has just taken a hit. That is normal. That just happens. Your savings are not in danger, in fact with the stocks low right now is the best time to invest.”
“That skill surely is something. Good, almost S-rank”, Gildroy praised.
“It would be a same if some one would steal it: [Buyout]: Purchase the skill Elegant Noble Slash.” The drakling burned hundreds of platinum coins activating that skill.
A system message apperared in front of Noele’s eyes
[Gildroy Goldentooth has acquired the skill Noble Slash]
Noele’s jaw went slack. Her sword of light and flames disappeared and reappeared in Gildroys hands.
“Beautiful skill”, Gildroy said with a shit-eating grin. “And just my color.”
And with that he started to whail on Noele. She tried to dodge his clumsy swings, but at some point one hit. Her armor of flames buckled under the blows, but still held strong.
“What can I still do?”, Noele screamed in panic. “I don’t have my skill anymore. I can’t do this?”
Amelia snorted. “You lost one skill. You still have the rest. Change them. Combine them. Make them better. Make them yours.”
“Make them mine”; Noele whipered. She close her eyes. “Make them better like with my elegant noble slash.”
When she opened her eyes again, Gildroy saw that ther gaze no longer contained fear, only cold determination.
Gildroy noted how her stance and entire aura shifted.
And Noele unleashed her newest skill
[Unending Dauntless Grand Blaze]”, Noele screamed.
She launched a great fireball and then dozens more.
The first fireball Gildroy batted away with his sword of golden light.
The second fireball he doged.
The third fireball hit Gildroy but was blocked by his armor.
The seventh fireball broke his [Armor of Gold]
And Gildroy screamed like a feral animal.
And the barrage continued for minutes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Gildroy was of course unhurt by the spell. Burning a dragon? About as sound a strategy as drowning a fish or killing a bird by tossing it down a mountain.
No, what hurt him was the collateral damage! Noele had hit not only him but also multiple buildings with her fireballs, absolutely demolishing them. Buildings he owned! Luckily her teacher had stepped in and carried the people still inside them to safety. But still…. so much money lost.
In his fury he roared. Using the smoke as cover he dashed toward Noele, who was obviously exhausted. She failed to even use her fancy teleportation spell, as Gildroy grabbed her by the neck. He then slammed her headfirst into the pavement. Once, twice. Then he tossed her away, through one of still standing walls.
Gildroy glanced on the burned ruin in front of him. He took a deep breath. This wasn’t as bad as it looked, he knew that. The tenants had been tardy on their morgage-payments anyhow.
He’d just demand the full repayment of the damages from the tenants and then he would also cash in the insurance. Then he would use that money to rebuild. He would gentrify the entire block and then he’d demand double, no triple the original price.
He saw how Noele fought to stand back up. She even picked a potion out from her pocket and downed it. Foolish. The fight was over, and even a little bit of replenished magic wouldn’t change anything.
“Girl, stop it. You did well, very well, but you lost.”
Instead of listening to Gildroy’s words, the girl went for one last, all out attack. Silly. Gildroy pulled out another platinum coin from his pouch, at least tried to.
Gildroy glanced downward. While he hadn’t been wounded by the barrage of fireballs, it had ripped the pouch of coins from his belt. And without platinum coins there was no time slow. No protection.
He felt a deep, stinging pain. He tasted iron on his gums.
The blade was lodged deeply into his chest, piercing his heart and his lungs.
“Oh.”, Gildroy weezed.
“Well done”, he said with his last bit of air.
Noele ripped the sword out of his body and Gildroy fell over.
And in these last few moments of his life Gildroy heard something.
The call of an ancient god of death. Of decay. Of oblivion.
He heard the call of the void.
Gildroy opened his eyes and saw a broken world. Enormous rocks flew about, one such he was standing on. Stars glittered in the far darkness of this terrible place.
A towering mass of dark purple flesh with hundred of tentacles sprawled over several such floating isles. The enormous body was mostly covered in shadows, yet the few glances were enough to cause Gildroy a massive headache and burnt themselves into his memories and left a marks that would last for the rest of his existance.
He tried not to look at the massive creature, but that was difficult as it so big, that it was both to the front, the left and the right of Gildroy.
“Your mortal flesh is failing you.”, the eldritch beast rumbled from a thousand mouths. “Swear yourself to my cause and you will be saved! You will be granted unlimited power, an...”
“No thanks”
Hundreds of eyes blinked in surprise.
“You are aware, that you are dying?”
Gildroy took a look a look of his blood- and sootstained suit. The shirt had been his last and had been made from the silk of a king tarantula. Very pricey and very difficult to clean. Probably ruined for good. Oh well, sometimes you incur unforseen losses.
“I want you to know two very basic things about me, my dear: First of all, my soul is not for sale. At least not for a vague promise of unlimited power. No, if I were to put a price on my soul, it would be hard cash only.”
“Secondly” Gildroy’s lips drew back into a manic smile. “I always plan ahead. Far ahead.”
His grin bloomed into a full on mad laugh.
“My death was always part of the plan.”
Noele stood victorous. She had beaten an S-ranked threat, alone and almost witthout any help from her master. Did that mean she was an S-rank adventurer now?
Then [Dance with Death] stopped it’s effect, recognizing that her fight was over. Tiredness slammed into her body like the mallet of a yeti. She fell to her knees, then flat to the ground.
She used the lat bit of her strength and raised her head and looked at Amelia. Goodness, she was tired. She expected a proud nod, or even a few kind words from her master. Yet Amelia’s gaze was hard, and her body tense, as she looked at the cooling corpse of Gildroy. Slowly her mentor drew her sword.
Then Noele heard a sound. The sound of metal against cobblestone. Then another plink.
Then another.
And another.
And another.
Noele saw how a gold coin fell down from somewhere up in the sky. And then a silver coin, and some platinum after that. Then Noele saw a message from the world system.
[Gildroy Goldentooth used the skill: Life Insurance]
The rain of coins picked up, gold coins falling in an endless cascade from the skies. A small hill was already forming around the body.
Ameila took a single step, crossing the entire distance to her pupil and lifted her up. Another leap took them to the roof of one of the undamaged buildings, where she laid down Noele.
Meanwhile the entrance to the city hall was entombed by an avalance of silver, the fires in the burning ruins were buried in gold, drowning the fires.
On top of this mountain of treasures now stood a figure wreathed in golden scales and golden wings, his eyes burning with the blue flame of undeath.
“You fools!”, Gildroy roard. “Do you think I didn’t buy shares in that liches phylactery?”
Noele eyes burned and not only from the smoke lingering in the area. So she had failed… not only herself but also her sister.
“Master, shouldn’t you stop him? Please, I am too weak.” Noele hated how feeble and pathetic her voice sounded.
“Not yet. The rain hasn’t stopped yet, and that lizard did a lot of damage,”, Amelia said while crouching down next to her. “You did well, though this opponent is frankly above you.”
With that she one again leaped and landed in front of the ecstatic drakling.
“Ha! You cannot face me! Nobody can! I am the richest dragon to ever walk Vacuos!”, Gildroy bellowed. “[Buyout]”, he barked. “System: Kill Amelia.
Nothing happened. Gildroy looked at the System Message in front of him and his eyes bulged.
“How much does that cost me? That many zeros?”
“Alright.”, Gildroy exclaimed. “System: Stun Amelia:
Once again nothing happened, aside from a new message appearing.
“Still that much. Oh dear.” Gildroy suddenly sobered up.
“You are quite strong, aren’t you?”, he feebly asked.
“Yeah. Kinda.” Amelia glanced up. The golden rain slowly let up. There must be tens of millions of coins laying about.
“Well. I seem to have micalculated. Is it too late to apologize? Forgive and forget?”
One last platinum coin fell from the sky and skidded over a mountain of gold.
“Too late.”, Amelia said, and her blade descended.
---------------------------------------------
There we are. 10 minutes before the deadline. Not even close.
Now time for a nap. Running on caffeine and 2 hourse of sleep. Who could have known that writing takes time and effort.
Oh, also a little prologe. Noele fell down the roog, knocked her head really bad. Forgot her new skill combo. Such a klutz.

The spotted warrior strode past the black elder to tower over Li. “My ancestor was of the warrior caste,” she said, “and taught her cubs your,” she used an unusual, human word, “greeting.”
Claws fully retracted, she extended her paw toward Li, who looked at it confused. Then the human smiled. Gently, Li took her arm by the wrist, twisted the paw so it was perpendicular to the floor. She then placed her small hand opposite, gripped, and slowly shook the paw up and down.
“N’eyes doo mead yoo,” the spotted warrior sounded out the words slowly, squeezing her lips tightly shut.
“The pleasure is mine,” Li’s broach translated. “My name is Zhōu Li, Corporal of the Terran Space Navy.” She released the spotted warrior's paw, took a step back and bowed at the waist as she had at the outpost wall. “My friends call me Li,” then rubbed her nose and grinned, “most of the time.”
“My name is Allah’hem’nrah,” the spotted warrior returned the familiar gesture, “I stand as fifth chair on the high quorum and pride mother to the warrior caste.” She tilted her head curiously. “What do friends call you when they do not call you Li?”
Li smirked as Allah covered her eyes with her paws at the answer. ”Various, well earned, profanities, ma’am.”
Instead of being offended, Allah’hem’nrah chuffed heartily. But, while she still smiled, Li’s tone was cautious when she asked “Is Allah a common name among the U’knock?”
“Yes,” Allah’hem’nrah said, tail twitching like a cub. Of course any true hearted warrior given the chance to greet a Defender had rights to be excited. “We take it in honor of those who came before. It is said that many of the Defenders would kneel to the sky brothers and chant to their great sister-warrior Allah.
“She must have been mighty to receive such praise.”
Li’s grin turned into a laugh, and the tiny creature slapped her thigh. “Oh sweet chubby Buddha!” she cackled, “The muslims are gonna have a field day with you!”
“We never meant to give offense,” Allah’hem’nrah said at the unexpected reaction.
“You didn’t offend,” Li soothed, wiping a tear from her eye. “And I’m certain the people who worship Allah would honor it as the complement it was intended.”
Allah’hem’nrah considered this, and nodded thanks, the matter settled and no honor lost.
“Excuse me,” the black elder interrupted, “We hold no doubt you are a defender,” she said with a speculative tone, “but what you demand of us is unreasonable. The buildings you would destroy are the heart of our city.” She paused to point westward. “The furnaces,” and now south, “the Smithworker’s Hall,” and finally south, “and the grainery all supply trade, materials and food that took us lifetimes to build.
“Our people will die without their continued operation. Without the houses they build they will freeze. Without the food they store, they will starve.”
She pointed north now and said “Perhaps we can survive without the fisheries for a time--calm yourself Ad’vana!” she thrust out a paw as a thin gray male rose in growling protest, “I am speaking truth! Your guild must admit their nets have not been full for many seasons now.
“But if the bullies have returned,” and the skepticism in her voice returned, “and will return again, we must consider their threat and the danger of empty bellies come the hard frosts.”
She held out her arms, pads up, in a gesture of defeat to Li. “We must think of the years ahead, great defender, not only right now. You have yet to even explain why we must do this thing!”
Murmurs of agreement followed from the hall.
Li listened to the translation patently, then folded her arms in thought. She said “Those garages that you built your city in front of are designed to open a lot bigger. “They typically only open as large as the vehicle coming out needs them to.”
Li pointed to the visage of the floating city still looming with lines of red where buildings were to be destroyed. The image changed to a squat cart with many wheels and thick bands surrounding those wheels. Beside the cart, the image of a human appeared to give a sense of scale. Atop the massive machine was a box with three long tubes of varying length and diameter, from thin and short as a walking stick to fatter than an U’knock’s thigh and twice as long as they would be tall. “The tanks and mass drivers,” as she spoke, the image changed. A walking machine with many squat legs appeared with a rounded body and a pair of fat long tubes, “I am going to be constructing are almost twice as wide as…a planter.
“These ground weapons are vital to preventing the swar--the bullies--from securing a foothold on the planet's surface.”
The image changed again, and a long, fat wheeled trough appeared. “The missile boats,” and a massive--from the human provided for scale--boat with boxes and more tubes resting atop it, nestling itself atop the trough, “will also be required if we’re to prevent a water landing.”
Li held out her own hands, mirroring the elder’s defeated gesture. “I'm not telling you that I want to destroy your city. These machines simply were not designed for urban combat or to maneuver in such narrow confines.”
“Is there no way to salvage even some of these buildings?” Allah’hem’nrah asked. Marn’charlie’weh is correct.” The warrior gestured to the black elder. “If we have no way to forge metal our civilization will end. If we have no grain or seed to plant, our people will starve.“
Li’s tone became harsh. “Your people have been starving, Allah’hem’nrah. The villages needed the nutrients those machines should have supplied. Using them in the manner you did not only squashed your population’s ability to grow,” Li pointed northward, “it virtually killed this area of the planet in the process.
“Too much of a good thing can turn everything sour. The nutrients that ran into that river as runoff and became acidic, which in turn killed the local fish. The fish died off, so the birds and bugs that preyed or depended on them for survival died or left. The animals and plants dependent on them died or left in turn.
So now your city is dependent on seed from a system designed to supplement and foster growth, not replace it outright. Good farmland goes fallow, becomes useless mud incapable of supporting more than grass. Birds that should be spreading new seeds are nearly wiped out, and the species that depend on them become a myth, a ‘cub’s dream’.”
More murmurs from the hall, some in agreement but many voices in growing defiance.
“This is not our immediate problem,” Marn’charlie’weh answered. “I will not argue against…a defender…that our ways could have been improved. But your cure for our past mistakes would kill our future.
“I’m not certain you understand,” Li replied. “Without those weapons in place your people have no future.”
“There must be some way,” the gray elder asked. “Forgive my lack of manners,” and she bowed, “I am Ada’key’hamda and honored to serve.” Ada’key’hamda’s speech was slightly slurred and Allah could see the elder was missing several teeth; they had been replaced by the new metal but two fangs were stumped and illformed.
Li bowed in kind.
“The northern path you showed was the widest,” Ada’key’hamda said, blinking when she turned back to the image maker--holographic projector, Jung corrected Allah--to see the ship gone and the city image returned. “Could not the ‘tanks’,” the new word was odd in her mouth, “and the ‘m’ass driv’vers’ use the same path.”
Li shook her head. “They’ll bog down in the mud,” she pointed to the map and stretched her fingers out. As she did, the image of the city expanded. Soon it showed pinpoints of blue--the villages--and green jagged lines for mountains. There was more murmured commotion from the quorum as they had the first opportunity to see the continent they called home. New lines of red began to bleed across the map. They started at the edge of the land, where Umati’clam rested, and poured outward to reach the western coast. One particularly fat line followed the path of the river north, into a green ocean, and spread to fan outward as well. “Most of the uncharted land,” Li walked back to the image, pointing to thin lines far away from any U’knock dwellings, “won’t be a problem for small groups of tanks. But when they all have to come from one place, “she made a clapping gesture and the image zoomed in on the city again, “their treds and feet will suck into the mud--Jung, demonstrate,” the image changed to the tank again. Now it moved on level ground, its many wheels turning as the bands--treads--slid across. It traveled in a circle, digging deeper into the ground with each pass until it stopped, half the cart body buried in mud. “They’ll come to a crawling halt within a day or two.
“We need those paths cleared or the tanks will all be stuck here.”
“Why not improve the road?” Allah asked, lowering her ears when so many eyes turned to regard her. “We could use the rubble from the buildings to pave the north road. Would that not prevent much of this sinking?”
“We could bring down some of the nearby homes as well,” Ada’key’hamda offered, “and shore up the riverside paths as well.
“And turn out a quarter of the fisher families in the process?” Marn’charlie’weh argued as others began to protest. “Surely there is another way.”
“Yeah,” Li answered flatly, staring fixedly at the holoimage. “My way.”
She turned to look at Ada’key’hamda. “You’d need enough timber and stone to bolster these paths,” she pointed up and down the riverside as the red lines made a “T” shape, “and there’d need to be repair crews available to shore the roads back up where the ground grows soft.”
“You’ll have them!” Allah’hem’nrah said enthusiastically.
Li nodded, turning back to the map in thought.

2023.03.21 01:08 Tayarda Names of My Planets

I am making a space fantasy setting and came up with some planet names. I wonder whether they are any good. Below are the names and short descriptions of every planet. If this interest you pmease share your criticsm so i can improve my worlds.
Arodia
A Super-Earth and a cold version of a Tidally Locked Eyeball Planet. Plants look like rocks or are animals that part-time masquerade as plants for this planet orbits a flare star that periodically bombards the world with radioactive blasts. The planet is divided into the Sunside boreal marshlands, the great tundra steppes that surround it, and the dark side glaciers and cold deserts. Magically average.
Yaltu
A cold sub-earth terrestrial planet. Is in an eternal ice age. Plants range from tones of reds to oranges and yellows. Harbors civilizations of four Intelligent species that look like Archaic Birds with a pair of extra limbs and an extra pair of eyes. Magically Strong.
Typhoel
A sub-Neptune planet with an incredibly geologically active surface and an atmosphere 10 times thicker than Earth. Most life lives in the upper and middle atmosphere as floaty things and such but complex Life still exists on the surface even though humans need pressurized suits to survive down there. There are no photosynthethysers on the surface world for cloud coverage blocks around 85% of the light from the planet's sun. Instead, many complex chemothropes take advantage of the wide-scale volcanism. Magicsally Strong.
Arvanus
A true water planet that's only slightly larger than earth. Continents on this planet are swimming colonies of gigantic tree-like lifeforms which are closely related to Insects of the world. This is apparent in their mobile seeds. Vertebrates exist too but Insects are the dominant form of life. Has two sentient species the deep water-going Shellings and the Flying Orboneans. Both are rather primitive technology-wise. Has a very high percentage of Oxygen in the atmosphere so lightning causes explosions. Magically average.
Torval
A false water world with four island archipelagos. The largest landmass is the size of Sulawesi. Recently(16 million years ago) was hit by a comet that wiped out 80% of life. Still haven't fully recovered. Recently colonized by Gerbani(Crab People from planet Encehapaloan). Magically Average
Kesemerl
In the same solar system as Thypoel. Sixteen times bigger than Earth, this is the largest terrestrial planet with ever discovered. Is geologically active but plate tectonics don't happen due to the lack of oceans. Has a thin atmosphere. Life is inorganic and relies on a mix of magnetic forces and magic rather than on chemical reactions. Natives can survive in the vacuum of space for long periods. Mining colonies present. Magically very strong.
Sideranis
A hot desert world like Tatooine. Has one small sea half the size of mediterranean and many lakes, however. First planet colonized by Humans. magically strong.
Eth
A cold moon with taigas in the tropics. Poles can reach temperatures as low as 110 degrees celsius on winter nights. Has three sentient species. The ground sloth-like Aruuls, Human offshoot Ereleans and winged predatory Shadefolk. magically strong.
Belanesca
Ecumenopolis like Coruscant. Not the capital of but the most important industrial hub and the most populous world of the Universalist Confederation(Name is not final and will be changed.) Humans dominated but most species of the galaxy can be found around here. Native silicon-based lifeforms still live in the planet's mantle and are both a resource and pest, seldom fished through large industrial oven tunnels. magically average.
Navessi
The planet is a climate anomaly. Around the size of earth but has an atmosphere three times thicker and is also richer in CO2 and CH4. This would be a problem if the planet did not orbit its star just outside the Normal Habitable zone(still not beyond the frost line, however). As it is, has a global oceanic climate with little variation. magically strong.
Darshvin
Basically, Khasshyyk from Star Wars crossed with Pandora without the living planet shtick. Is a global forest world with high temperatures much like Early Eocene Earth. Has some variation in biomes and vegetation depending on latitude and altitude, however. magically average.
Archonos
An irradiated Desert world that would have lost its atmosphere in a couple of million years if not for the intervention of native Chntoni. Kind of Like Geonosis but less dystopian. This is weird because this is supposed to be a more grimdark ripoff of Star Wars. magically average.
Shipinu
A hot planet with a giant desert in the tropics and subtropics that fades to a subpolar Savaanah that borders polar seas. İn the equator there are "sauna regions" where moisture gathers but can't rain because of the heat. Home to humanoid caterpillar people. magically average.
Whilth
A hot tidally locked world. Basically Ryloth but less slavery and head tentacles. Terminator region has some idyllic lakes and seas but otherwise, the light side is a giant oven-like desert while dark side is frozen. Natives are basically alien Treeants. they take human-ish forms due to the passive human centrism of the galaxy but they don't always nail it well or bother with it. Most animal life is aquatic or microscopic but there are a few exceptions. Magically average.
Tirala
A very hellishly cold and toxic hellscape. where it rains tar and migratory acid seas carve away at the crumbling civilization. Native Sinni and Asi peoples survive through magic. In fact, current lifeforms are mostly spirit entities rather than physical lifeforms. Magically strong world.
Lefocrum
Basically Felucia but has fungi forests are ripped in two by an irradiated wasteland in thje equator. otherwise, lichen-derived flora covers everything. Natives look like flatworms trying too hard to be vertebrates. Magically average world.
Marak
A very polluted world where human colonists have to live underground or in domed cities. Seas have turned to sludge and smoke makes the air unbreathable. Expect all rain to be acidic. Life still persists despite this. Centuries of rigid caste system divided humans into the Pipemen, Nihilians, and Maraki Aristocrat species. Nihilians are closest to humans, differing only in having a cartilaginous skeleton and a better immune system. Magically rather weak world.
Roskjarl
The world where the order of Hulf was established 460 years ago. Most current magical practise were reinvented by them. Is a very earth-like planet but has smaller obliquity so the difference between the equator and poles is much more extreme. magically rather strong world.
Bremon
A rather earth like planet. Notably has little land in the equator which makes the ocean currents stronger and distributes heat more evenly. which makes it ice free despite being a similar temperature to earth. Current headquarters of the Sorcerers guild of the Federation. magically strong.
Lometsill
A moon until recently ruled by a military dictatorship. Inhabitants face stigma because of this. Is a very cold planet where only a thin strip of tundra in the equator is habitable. Native people mainly live underground and thus have no eyes, only skin covered vestigial eyes sockets. They see neurological implants or through sorcery. Magically strong.
Maltomes
A cold desert planet. Basically if Gobi Desert was an entire planet. Boreal regions have some meltwater lakes where most of its inhabitants live. Native life is rich in arsenic and phosporus. Every 45 years it passes between the two stars of its binary solar system which creates an eternal day for 6 moths. The period is called the burning. Magically strong.
Danum
Europa like Moon. Got nothing more for it. Has life below its ice sheets. Magically average.
Enchepaloan
Gerbani Homeworld. A crumbling aquatic Ecumenopolis. Mostly Abandoned due to widespread abuse of nanotechnolog creating horrors of artificial life. Is a false waterworld like Torval but is warmer. Magically average.
Abhoron
The home planet of Omomoi species who are based on Star Wars Sith. Planet is irradiated due to nuclear weaponry and cursed due to sorcerous weaponry used in the last great war which lasted for over 100 years. Some abominable creatures shamble and try to make a life in the wastelands while Omonoi of thw winning side live in decadent crytsalline palaces, uncaring of what they made to their world. Lossing side suffered massive genocide and no longer exists. Magically strong.
Apollyon
A tidally locked planet that has a magma ocean in its day side. Fumes from this ocean causes it to rain rock in terminator region and acid in night pole. Was once a prison colony. Has 5 times the gravity of Earth. Native life is unicellular but human settlers diverged from mainline humans and look like fantasy dwarves. Magically average.

2023.03.21 00:35 Wayback2k [OC] Multiversal Manuscript - Volume 1 - Organizations (FREE)

Presenting a chapter from what will eventually be the full 1st Volume of the Multiversal Manuscript, a catalog of all sorts of new characters, places, and things drawn from all piles of notes and random writing I've done for my D&D games and setting work. While generally written for a Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder style setting, its contents can be setting agnostic and made to fit any world.
This chapter contains entries for 19 Organizations as well as sample NPCs for each. It also includes the 20 page Appendix of minor entries that are referenced by both the Organizations in this text and what will eventually be the full product. Consider them a sneak preview.
They are intended to serve varied roles in many settings, from allies to enemies and anything in between. These organizations and their members are meant to be both inspiration and foundation for more, providing hooks and conflicts that can be tailored to your own worlds.

It is Free on DriveThruRPG - https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/430677/Multiversal-Manuscript--Volume-1--Organizations?src=Reddit
Slowly working my way through editing everything and in refining the Organizations the size of the overall project has gone gone up about 25 pages. Looking at working on either my Monsters or Gods chapters next.
There is also my more general Preview version I posted here about 4 months ago if it is of interest; it gives an idea of the full scope of the project and what the final think is headed towards, content wise.
Any comments or suggestions to edits on either doc is welcome!

Covert - Grudge Bearing Dwarves
A clandestine organization of dwarves spread across the world. For a fee, they take on the grudges and hatreds of any dwarf or clan, storing them in massive iron tomes. They dispatch specialists to ensure that the targets of the grudges suffer or repay what is owed, be it in blood or gold. The group actively recruits dwarves who have nothing left to lose, such as exiles, criminals, lone survivors, or those who cannot fit into normal dwarven society. The Aggrieved provides them with purpose and an outlet for pent-up frustrations, especially against surface dwellers or their eternal foes in the depths of the world. While the group is something of an open secret in most dwarven communities, they are keen to keep their existence from outsiders. Chief among the grievances they are sought to satisfy is the reacquisition of ancient dwarven treasures that have been stolen and the punishment of those who currently possess them, even if they are many owners removed from the original thieves. Rumors persist of a Grudgebearer who has spent over a hundred years systematically tracking down every subsequent owner of a long-dead dwarven mountain lord’s treasure, leaving hundreds of dead in their wake. The Aggrieved also fulfills more indirect grievances, such as ensuring that a particular human noble family will forever see their fortunes ruined for cheating a clan elder in a trade deal in a prior generation, or that the elves will never expand past the mountains that once belonged to a now-fallen dwarven city for failing to come to their aid when needed. Additionally, a few of their members, more unstable and violent than the rest, are sent on Bitter Hunts to forever seek out and slay the sworn enemies of the dwarves until they wipe them all out or die in the process.
Kerganosk the Brazen: An Aggrieved hunter who has made it his mission to seek revenge against fire giants. He has become a legend among the giants, who fear him greatly. The dwarf is known for his scorched and pitted brass armor, which he refuses to take off until he has seen to the utter decimation of his enemies. Despite the fact that the greater dwarven kingdoms have publicly disavowed Kerganosk's crusade, they do nothing to stop him. In fact, many younger dwarves who are eager to earn a name for themselves or reject the withdrawn nature of their forebearers have joined his cause. These dwarves are cult-like in their devotion to Kerganosk and have expanded their hatred to include all giants, no matter where they may be. Although Kerganosk remains focused on his mission, he is more than willing to share his martial tactics and specialized weaponry with anyone who wishes to see the giants destroyed, even non-dwarves who show some talent. Together with his allies, he has been able to vex his enemies for years, often laying low for extended periods as they plan simultaneous strikes against multiple targets, or emerging suddenly for an overwhelming attack on a valuable target before quickly disappearing once again. Through bounty hunters and smaller allies. the giants have attempted to track down Kerganosk and his hidden lairs throughout the Underdelve. Thus far they have only found fleeting traces of his passing and no small number of cleverly hidden traps in the broken halls of dead dwarven fortresses that the Brazen and his followers rotate through.
Gallkag Brimrift: A grim dwarf who has claimed a stretch of mountains that were once settled as part of a collaborative effort between dwarves and humans to establish a long-lasting trade city. However, the short-lived humans and their tumultuous politicking soured the venture, leading to tensions that eventually flared into skirmishes, then war. In the end, the dwarves were forced to cut their losses and retreat back into the depths of the earth to their homeland. Gallkag, left for dead in the last days of the conflict, was "rescued" by the Aggrieved. After he recovered, he eagerly took it upon himself to make the humans of the region pay for their transgressions. He now ceaselessly stalks the mountain passes of his former home, waylaying any human travelers that have the misfortune of crossing paths with him and his pack of beasts. Operating out of the half-built trade city, Gallkag's territory is honeycombed with tunnels that only he knows about. Many have tried to ferret the vicious dwarf out, but his mastery of the landscape allows him to evade interlopers with ease, picking them off one by one or tricking them into the many hazards present.
Urist Dastordruk: An undercover liaison for agents of the Aggrieved in one of the largest aboveground cities of the realm. He owes an extensive debt of both coin and honor to the organization for avenging his extended family's death many years prior. Though few are sure what exactly he does as an occupation beyond being a perennial socialite, the dwarf has earned a reputation throughout the city and beyond for his uncanny knack for making friends across all strata of society and getting them connected. If he doesn't know someone or something, he certainly knows who does and can get in touch for a nominal fee, of course. However, Urist hates every second of it. Every handshake, every fake smile, and every cheering toast. He wants nothing more than to be back in the mountainhome of his kin and away from the petty, meaningless lives of all the small-minded people on the surface. To maintain his composure, Urist's handler in the Aggrieved has supplied him with a steady stream of alchemical concoctions that serve to both suppress his incredible hatred of those peoples tangentially responsible for the downfall of his family and enhance the charming facade of his public personality. Over time, the doses have had to become more and more potent to maintain their effect, and the dwarf has begun experiencing strange fugue states. When he emerges, Urist is often standing at the edge of a roof looking out over the city below or back in his home covered in blood that is not his. He is both terrified of what has been happening and hopeful that it might lead to an end of his torment, honor be damned. The Grudgebearer that owns his debt cares little for Urist's plight. While the dwarf has been exceedingly useful in feeding the organization information and the whereabouts of targets, the cost of maintaining his persona has begun to outweigh the benefits, especially if it possibly draws attention to the existence of the Aggrieved.

Dustbringers' Market

Guild - Ghostly Wandering Merchants
Hailing from an abandoned marketplace in a long-dead city where the Veil between the realm of the living and the dead is nearly non-existent, several lingering dead have managed to leave the city and establish wandering markets in derelict sections of distant cities. They have achieved this through the use of mortal ‘handlers’, ragged humanoids who have forged a sort of pact with the dead of the city to serve as anchors for the ghostly merchants. Visitors to one of these markets, whether in its original city or one of its wandering offshoots, can trade their knowledge of the living world or more ephemeral wares such as memories and emotions in exchange for the long-forgotten knowledge of the dead city's people or whatever other secrets they've garnered from beyond the Land of the Dead. The Dustbringers have somehow managed to craft or acquire ghostly goods that provide boons to the living when it comes to dealing with or fighting the undead. Some are even willing to cut long-term deals and pacts with the living to acquire resources for their strange deathly economy.
Morof and Echessar: This pair is the most widely known members of the Dustbringers, accompanied by their ever-cloaked and silent human servant. They have come to reside in a city of the living, but the authorities take exception to their very existence, forcing them to stay on the move within the city walls. They set up their ghostly shop in different abandoned buildings or dark alleyways each night and simply wait. They are content to let the rumor mills bring customers to them, as they always seem to have something that entices prospective buyers, even with the strange prices they demand. The most common items they sell, if anything of theirs could be considered common, are lead coins stamped with a closed eye. Swallowing one of these coins renders the imbiber undetectable to the undead until it passes. Their usual fee for most purchases is measured in minutes of life per day, in perpetuity, from what remains of a customer’s natural lifespan. The portly Morof eagerly assures prospective customers that they won’t miss such a paltry sum of time. However, each night when the toll comes due and the disturbingly gaunt Echessar appears to collect, many feel they have chosen poorly as the shade’s icy hand reaches into them and pulls away threads of their soul. Such is the power of the Dustbringers’ deals that they are able to reach their customers wherever they may be on any plane. Should a client attempt to hide out elsewhere, the ghostly merchants are not above hiring others to retrieve them, so that they may collect what they are due, plus interest.
The Urn: One of the most powerful members of the Dustbringers, it has a cadre of lesser member shades of the guild bound to it by contracts etched upon large scrolls of thin lead sealed within ivory cases. These pacts seemingly predate the deaths of the Dustbringers’ mortal forms in centuries past and raise questions as to just how the demise of their city came about. The Urn itself is a massive vessel of cloudy black marble, weighing hundreds of pounds, with patterns traced in gold that subtly shift and flow. It has a brass cover at its top, with several fluted pipes emerging from it, curving upwards. Although it rarely moves, when it emerges from its vault-lair, it is carried on a great palanquin by a dozen mortal handlers. Through the deals it has struck with entities from the Land of the Dead, The Urn has extensive power over souls that have passed into that realm, summoning them forth for interrogation, torment, or to bind them back onto the mortal realm. It is even able to shape these recalled shades into physical objects with particular potency and protection against both the living and the dead. While The Urn allows its servant Dustbringers to conduct their deals in their own way, what it desires above all is vast quantities of physical wealth, such as gold and other valuable metals, along with gems of all kinds. Why The Urn would seek such extensive and mundane riches instead of the more ephemeral things like emotions or life force, which its kin typically traffic in, is a mystery. Some speculate that it aims to perform a ritual on behalf of a Power that it has contracted with, utilizing the symbolic connection and meaning of wealth to enact some drastic change to the mortal plane. Others believe that it is working towards building a powerful construct body through which it can personally enact its will. However, The Urn freely allows such conjecture, confident in its power to control other souls with minimal effort. The Urn does not manifest its ghostly form directly to interact with its servants or prospective clients. Instead, it emerges from the brass pipes at its apex as a sickly mist before occupying the body of one of its ragged mortal attendants. Even then, it rarely does so, instead relying on the fanatical devotion of its Dustbringer seneschals to negotiate on its behalf. It stirs to action only when it needs to call forth and shape a soul from beyond.
Zaunfe: Once a respected member of the Dustbringers, renowned for her ability to craft and transmute strong metaphysical sympathetic energy into physical objects and vice versa. However, fleeting traces of mortality constantly slipping through her spectral fingers began to torment her with fragmented memories of the life she once lived. Now, Zaunfe desires nothing less than to become mortal again. Despite not being formally expelled from the guild, it has been declared that none are to interact with her or allow her back into the city of their origin. If it became known just how many of their secrets she has been sharing in her pursuit of a new life, and the crimes she has committed against other shades, it is likely that they would actively hunt Zaunfe down and return her to the Land of the Dead by force if necessary. Unlike others in the guild, Zaunfe forms symbiotic pacts with the suffering mortals she comes across, giving them a longer lease on life than they might have had without her help. Unfortunately, she constantly leeches away her pact bonded associate's emotions and personality, mingling with hers until they are difficult to distinguish from one another. More than just keeping her partner alive, she is able to extend her spectral transmutation power through them, turning emotional connections into physical boons and weapons. With such objects, she reverts back to the mercantile nature at her core, wheeling and dealing with them to gain the allies and resources she requires. Given her knowledge of how the Land of the Dead and the mortal realm interact, she feverishly pursues leads on how to contact the Powers of that plane to forge whatever deal is necessary to be reborn. This pursuit for knowledge and those who possess it has proven exceedingly dangerous, and over the years she has led a number of her mortal partners to their own deaths. When untethered, Zaunfe is forced to rekindle and perpetuate her own essence through the consumption of powerful emotions, either elicited from nearby mortals or through the destruction of physical mementos that bear a great deal of sentimental value. In desperation, she has even consumed lost ghosts that she has encountered. These shades, often confused and trapped in the Veil of the mortal realm, are easy prey for one of their kind that possess full awareness and sentience. All of this consumption of emotion and personality has not come without a cost. Zaunfe now resembles little of the unique entity that she once was and is now an amalgamation of all the different beings she has fed upon in one way or another. While these conflicting impulses can sometimes drive her into fits of mania, what has remained a constant tethering influence to her soul is the overwhelming drive to attain life once again.

Ruinous Dawn, The

Divine - Seekers of Deific Rebirth
A group of former heroes and remnants of a forgotten age of the multiverse. Their all-consuming desire for the rebirth of their divine patron has driven them to transcend mortality and resort to abhorrent methods to carry out their 'sacred' task, one that fervently believe will ultimately redeem the multiverse. Uzarial was one of the earliest celestial deities of the sun, life, and purification of evil, and their death in a catastrophic final conflict with an unknown Elder Entity is something the founders of the Ruinous Dawn have never truly accepted. Their goal is to resurrect Uzarial, seeing its return as the catalyst required to cleanse the wretched planes of what they consider to be pervading and all-consuming evil. Each member has vowed to use whatever means necessary in pursuit of the knowledge and power they need to breach the Vale of Dead Gods and usher forth Uzarial's return. Despite this, they believe that their actions constitute the ultimate good, a concept that exceeds the grasp of most mortal minds and is superior to the 'morality' of ordinary individuals. The current Gods of Light are viewed by the Dawn as either ineffective pretenders at best or complicit in the multiverse's defiled state through their inaction at worst. They aim to subsume all such false gods into the reborn Uzarial when the time comes, reclaiming their deific essence and putting it to proper use. The six elders of the Ruinous Dawn are scattered throughout the planes, each pursuing the 'Endeavor' in their own way. They meet every fifty years to pool their knowledge and make arrangements for the future. These summits often result in an ambitious act against perceived foes, as well as the setting in motion of complex plots towards their ultimate goal. Their schemes can range from the acquisition of required relics and artifacts to the realignment of several planes towards a configuration more suitable to their cosmic aims. Most founders of the Ruinous Dawn have long since ceased feeling remorse for their actions, no matter how questionable or amoral they may become. Those that do bear regret for all the lives they have spent seeking the God's return fully intend to suffer the judgement of their patron or scour themselves from existence as unworthy to reside in the paradise that will result. Several have attracted followers that share their cynical view of the planes and desire to resurrect Uzarial, or founded obscure faiths across the planes with the same intent. However, such allies are often seen as fleeting or expendable and are tested regularly, for the Ruinous Dawn is ever paranoid of infiltrators and those that would despoil their sacred Endeavor.
Alithrienne: Uzarial’s most devout mortal agent and an Exalted of demi-god like power, she took the celestial deity’s fall most severely and was a driving force towards the formation of the Dawn. Bearing a large portion of the fallen God’s power after their passing, she set about holding together what was left of their divine realm. Alithrienne fought to stave off planar usurpers and scavengers that sought to pick over its remains. If that was not enough, she was also forced to stave off other celestial entities and divine servitors that balked at a mortal claiming such a role. Despite considerable effort, even she and her allies were not able to prevent the gradual dissolution of Uzarial’s realm; infusions of celestial essence and sundered relics only delaying the inevitable. In a moment of despair and anguish, she plunged the God’s final relic, a great spear of pearlescent stone and golden light, through her own heart. She intended to give the last shreds of power in both herself and the weapon to the divine realm in a bid to halt its decay and ensconce it as a memorial within the Astral.
The inherent desperation of her act mixed with the unstable divine energies of the plane, the relics, and the Astral instead merged her soul with the last of Uzarial’s divine power. Alithrienne, the realm, and the great spear became one, an untethered demi-plane out of phase with the rest of the multiverse. Other members of the Dawn, still holding on to a semblance of their connection to the dead God, were able to locate it in this state and commune with the transcended Exalted. In her new form, she quite literally became the foundation of the Ruinous Dawn. While the further deterioration of Alithrienne’s realm has halted, it remains in a shattered state. It is composed of several dozen floating islands of broken marble-like rock covered in golden grass. Spires and temples of an opaque white glass are scattered across the islands, cracked, and crumbling but still held aloft even in pieces. The only structure that has remained whole is a grand temple of the same shimmering glass in the realm’s center, the seat of Alithrienne’s power and the meeting place for the rest of the Ruinous Dawn during their infrequent conclaves.
Nearly a true God herself, Alithrienne has been able to create minor servitors to watch over the realm, though they are little more than bird-like beings of light. The spear that was integral to her transcendence was once held in a reliquary of stained glass at the apex of the central cathedral. Still a greater relic in its own right, Alithrienne discovered that her consciousness and will reside in it as well. When wielded by a mortal, she would be able to freely traverse between the rest of the multiverse and her realm and assist the rest of the Dawn in its plot to resurrect Uzarial. Over the ages, Alithrienne, in her spear form, has been wielded by countless mortals; many willingly chose to bear her power and enact her will, but not all. When an accord could not be made with a bearer to serve, she would bring the full force of her semi-divine might down upon them. Such recusants are left as little more than puppets hollowed out by her terrible light; even if they were to be freed from Alithrienne spear, it would take a greater divine power to make them whole again. Through these wielders, legend and infamy has been carved across the multiverse by her actions, each a small part of the greater Endeavor. As the Ruinous Dawn’s plans grow ever closer to fruition, Alithrienne hopes deeply to serve as the cradle from which Uzarial may be reborn, even if she may be utterly consumed in the process.
talshir: A zealot in the service of Uzarial, he had spent his entire life operating in the shadows cast by the celestials’ divine light. Brought up from birth to eradicate enemies of the faith, Talshir remained steadfast in his crusade, even after the fall of his God. In fact, he saw the death of his deity as validation of his actions, as it demonstrated that anything was killable. However, Talshir's methods went beyond merely ending the lives of his adversaries, he went so far as to master the tools of his enemies, including forbidden mystical arts that would have marked him a heretic under normal circumstances. When he eventually joined the core founders of the Ruinous Dawn, Talshir discovered a newfound sense of purpose as part of the Endeavor. It was his destiny to be the left hand of the reborn God and usher in the demise of the hopelessly corrupt planes.
To achieve the longevity required for such a destiny, Talshir delved into the darkest secrets of soul magic and combined them with the knowledge of life provided to him by other members of the Dawn. Rather than consuming the souls of others, he chose to shatter his own soul into hundreds of fragments and scatter them throughout the multiverse. Although the results were unpredictable, the vast majority of his soul fragments were able to take root in mortal hosts. After Talshir's original body was placed in stasis in a hidden tomb, his will was able to manifest within those who bore his soul fragments, even across generations of their descendants. Spread across various planes, the Talshirs form a unified cult with a common purpose, and dozens of them are active on different mortal realms at any given time. While the personality of each Talshir may vary due to their diverse experiences, they are essentially simulacrum of the original, sharing his mind if not his physical body. The Prime Talshir is the singular host in which the full consciousness of the original Talshir is able to manifest, representing the Talshirs at the Ruinous Dawn's conclaves and issuing orders to the others. During the years between conclaves, the Prime Talshir takes it upon himself to visit each of the other Talshirs individually, in order to ensure their continued adherence to their mission. Any Talshir who has strayed too far from their task is dealt with in a manner that Talshir himself refers to as being 'returned to the source'. In such cases, a new incarnation is sent to take their place, even if it takes years for one to manifest.
Shepherd of Eternity: Once a grand paladin of an inter-planar order, sworn to Uzarial, their name has been deliberately purged from history. They made a glorious sacrifice in order to obtain the power necessary to bolster the martial forces of the Ruinous Dawn. By rending open their own soul, they established a direct conduit to the Plane of Life, a realm of positive energy from which all nascent souls originate. Using this raw creative energy, they have created a legion of homunculi to serve the Endeavor. Over the centuries, in order to sustain the portal within their body, this individual, having come to be known as the Shepherd, replaced most of their body with sanctified metals and sacred stones, effectively becoming a construct save for their heart and a few other organs.
Embracing their role as the forgemaster of the Dawn, the Shepherd is driven to perfect their creations to better serve the cause of their allies. While they often lament the necessity of forcing pure and untainted souls into new forms, the Shepherd sees it as a necessary act to preserve the planes in the long run, confident that Uzarial will purge them of any suffering they might experience once the rebirth of reality comes. Although most of their creations are humanoid in appearance, with stone-like opaline flesh and silver armaments, the Shepherd aspires to create artificial angels to serve as the ultimate shock troops in the eventual siege of the Vale of Dead Gods. However, they have thus far met with limited success, as their pseudo-angels of condensed soul-stuff prove to be highly volatile and prone to mutation, resulting in horrific forms with too many limbs and eyes. Nevertheless, even in their malformed state, these creations have proven useful against the enemies of the Dawn and those who have stumbled across their secret existence. Despite the accolades of their comrades, the Shepherd has grown increasingly despondent over their failure to create a true angel. They have begun to engage their private homunculi forces to delve into the primeval ruins of the First War between the Gods and Primordials in search of the secrets that led to the first angels' creation.

2023.03.20 15:03 BelleDelphne Ideas to make the Wilderness more fun for everyone

There's been a lot of talk about the health of the wilderness in the last couple of years. In a recent update we saw Jagex's attempt to fix the Wilderness Bosses - which is a good update, it's just lacking a bit to keep it popular.
Wilderness PvM will always have a community, it's a very fun aspect that a small percentage of the game have always enjoyed. Thankfully that's probably become bigger thanks to WBR - I've seen a lot of Anti-pkers and teams willing to skull up when they know it's a fight they can win especially knowing a bosses mechanics or slapping someone with a Korasi.
Nevertheless, the wilderness is pretty inactive these days despite the update. These Ideas were all pitched in Jagex's PvP Discord to assist in areas of the wildy to make things more active and enjoyable:
Rouge's chest buff (50 ports): more loot, based around pkers, add blighted items, larren keys, etc.
Muddy chest buff (lava maze): more loot, based around pkers, add blighted items, larren keys, etc.
Kemp's mangled items: all untradables & cosmetics locked to account, just pay a fee instead of losing items. It's a replacement to the trouver system.
Poisoned Potion's Bonesack: Noted bones needs a buff. Increase the risk by having a bone sack that needs to be charged with ether or bones. Make this sack put the bones on the altar at twice the speed of auto offering.
Poisoned Potion's Slayer device: Works as NPC contact would to Contact Krystilla & the Undead Iceyene for slayer task, as well as ask to skip/cancel a task. All without leaving the Wilderness.
Lava Dragons: Add underground area for a big bad boss (VULCU) allow Lava Dragons to drop a scorched key to access it.
Wilderness Resource Area: increase the amount of resources received 2x or 3x but keep the experience rate the same. This would mean killing a runite golem would offer 2-3 Rune Ore, fishing Dark 🦀 🦀 🦀 is more profit & chill afk, they should also add a tree patch & herb patch.
Wilderness Water Maze [Fountain of Glory], increase the ability to recieve 2x more of an item's High Alch Value in this area only.
Wilderness Agility Arena: introducing Mark of the Wild, can be exchanged for additional experience (think Karmaja course) as well as... both the White & Black Graceful sets could get a nice cosmetic change with the ability to be permanently kept within the wilderness upon any PvM or Player Death.
Wilderness Slayer: Separate. Block. List. + Task Storage & increased loot amount (2x larren keys instead of 1x, more Blighted Sacks, SURGE SACKS, Wilderness teleports changed to 5x instead of 1x, Ornate Maul Handle & Trouver changed to 2x instead of 1x)
Forsaken & Blessed Status [Introducing the Undead Iceyene & her Tears]: THE EFFECTS ARE ONLY FOR THE WILDERNESS -- Player's must choose which one they'd want to activate! // She's a new Slayer Master and she's got some cool Perks & Rewards for you. Including the ability to make your Blessed Saradomin Sword, Godsword, ACB all Black as well as a Transmog into her character using the Zilyana Pet.
Wilderness Slayer Cave: Fix the Map by adding Agility Shortcuts & making areas more accessible to get to, add Gargoyles, increase number of spawns, fix spawn locations, 2x loot buff from all monsters killed on task in the Wilderness Slayer Cave.
Wilderness Bosses & Demi-bosses Additional Loot: Ancient Artifacts -- RS2 had them, If you recall they were originally from Bounty Hunter (Ancient 5m, Seren 1m, Armady 750k, Zamorak 500k, Bandos 300k, Guthix 250k).
They would be common through all the wilderness bosses, but slightly less common from the Demi-bosses, players could sell them on the GE or take them to Mandrith (the OG version, Gym Chad) for the full price of the item. Players could treat this similar to the Emblem trader in the Rev Caves.
Wilderness Fee: If you die skulled risking under 500k, you'll be subject to a fee of 250k to compensate the Pker's supplies (Ragging bad, PvMers don't be afraid this isn't for you).
PJ timer: Decrease ever so slightly to still prevent teaming, but enough so maybe you & a friend can Pk. Most importantly however, fixing the Single to Multi interaction & Multi to Single interaction.
Anyway, that's the majority of what was pitched in Jagex's PvP Discord. I'm sure this won't do well on reddit, but hoping since WBR seemed favorable the results on here might be different than what I expect.
