Western swing music is a subgenre of American country music that originated in the late 1920s in the West and South among the region's Western string bands.[1][2] It is dance music, often with an up-tempo beat,[3][4] which attracted huge crowds to dance halls and clubs in Texas, Oklahoma and California during the 1930s and 40s until a federal war-time nightclub tax in 1944 led to its decline.

2023.03.30 19:56 jediabj77 33 [M4F] Netherlands / Europe - nerdy introverted gamer looking for an extrovert to adopt me :)
Hey redditors,
Hope you all are doing well.
Reposting again - still looking for my person, staying positive and not giving up!
I moved to Netherlands last year for a career switch from academia to the industry. It has been an interesting journey for me - from India to USA for my PhD, then to Switzerland for research and now to Netherlands. New country, new job and new life! I will likely be spending the foreseeable future here, and want find my forever person.
I want a friendship that could mature into something more down the line where we establish a deep personal connection - share thoughts, dreams, goals, aspirations, travels and stories, music, books, food and more. I very much want a relationship and would prefer to communicate with someone who is already in NL or planning to move here very soon. I am not looking for pen pals or casual acquaintances.
Some common grounds/ice-breakers: gamer, scientist, traveler, foodie, amateur chef and coffee addict sums me up. And yet, we are all more than the sum of our hobbies.
Gaming: primarily a PC gamer with a taste for RPG and strategy. Gaming is not the only part of my life but it is an important one so I would prefer if you were at least a casual gamer or someone who is willing to participate in that activity. I regularly play games like final fantasy 14, guild wars 2, path of exile, and civilization 6. I also have a switch and a PS5.
Non-gaming: I enjoy both cooking and eating out to explore different cuisines. My taste in music is too broad to list here but the favorite is Sufi music. Lastly, I am not a couch potato and like spending a fair bit of time outside - fitness, hiking, traveling, visiting museums, attending live performances or just exploring new places. Being in NL, I have recently picked up cycling as well - we will see how that goes.
Other details: I am politically left leaning, an atheist, a vegetarian and an introvert.
I am usually a very agreeable person, but somethings such as smoking, strong religious inclinations and an anti-science mindset are an absolute no for me.
If you've read this far and feel like there is common ground to build upon, please leave a message introducing yourself, and let us start a conversation :)
Stay safe!
Cheers.

2023.03.30 19:56 anelson Legality of US Citizen overstaying Schengen short-stay visa waiver in Portugal awaiting residency
I'm a US citizen currently in Portugal, finding myself in what I bet is a pretty unusual situation and I'm not able to get clear answers on the legality of the situation.
I lived in Ukraine on a Ukrainian temporary residency permit for a few years before the Russian invasion in Feb 2022. My wife (who is a Ukrainian citizen and does not have a US green card) and I decided to come to Portugal in January to take advantage of the temporary protection regime they have for Ukrainian citizens and legal residents. We submitted our application for residency online in January (sefforukraine.sef.pt). As of today 30 March, my application is still in "Submitted" status. We went to a SEF (Portuguese immigration service) office to ask about the status, and they said it was probably because I was an American citizen and it's odd that I'm requesting temporary protection, although they confirmed that as a holder of a Ukrainian residence permit I do have a right to request it. Based on this feedback I also uploaded to our residency application a copy of our Ukrainian wedding certificate, and a letter explaining the unique situation.
I've talked to a Portuguese immigration lawyer, he agreed it's an unusual situation and probably that's why there's a delay. He has other clients (Ukrainian citizens) who applied for the temporary residency permits after we did, and already received them.
He advised me to be patient and await the residency permit.
My worry is that in three days we will have been in the Schengen zone for 90 days out of the last 180. I don't actually have this residency yet, so I will have technically overstayed the 90 day visa, right? We have a trip coming up to Italy, which now I'm re-thinking since I just did the math and realized that will be after our 90 days are up. Will Portuguese or Italian authorities notice, given that there's no passport control on flights between those two countries?
If for some reason I urgently need to leave the Schengen Zone (for health reasons or a death in the family or whatever) and I still haven't been issued this residency status, at the border as I leave would the border guards consider my wife and I as having over-stayed our visas? The only way we have to get back to Ukraine is via Poland, so if we were banned from the Schengen Zone for over-staying a visa it would be catastrophic for us both when the time comes to return to Ukraine.
I doubt anyone else has been in this exact situation, but has anyone else found themselves in a legal limbo awaiting residency or a visa extension in the Schengen zone? Any thoughts on the legality of my situation?

2023.03.30 19:56 DotBeautiful2352 I'm not sure what to do next in my relationship
Hi. I'm new here and I know this is highly used as an advice blog for people. I figured I'd tell my story because at this point I'm at a loss and could use some input, preferably non bias. I apologize for this being so lengthy.
I (32F) have been dating my boyfriend (40M) for nearly 2 years. We have a great relationship and we are very compatible. I love him so much and hes been nothing but good to me. When we first started dating, we agreed to take things slow and not rush into anything. We decided we would hold off on introducing our kids until about a year into dating. I have 2 kids, a 12 year old girl and an 8 year old boy. They have separate fathers. I have split custody with my daughters dad and my sons dad is not involved. My bf has one 11 year old son with his ex wife, they too have split custody. We agreed to only have our sons meet, because as of right now I am currently going through a custody dispute with my daughters dad. I filed for primary against him for multiple reasons. We felt we should have my daughter meet my bf until after my custody trial and the dust has settled.
I have a very messy history with my daughters dad. We have been in and out of court many times over the past 10+ years since we split , a lot of it because he has made false accusations against me as a mother. I've had CPS at my door 3 separate times now because he repeatably alleges I'm this abusive, unfit mother when him and I are butting heads. All of these accusations were dropped and unfounded. He is extremely vindictive and has slandered me in court over and over. My life has been a living hell because of him, and he has manipulated my daughter into thinking he's this awesome parent and I'm the bad guy. He's coerced my daughter into keeping secrets for him and lying for him. It's an absolute nightmare and it one of several reasons I filed for primary. She doesn't realize his horrible and narcissistic behavior because he has her wrapped so tight around his finger. He even went as far as falsely accusing my last boyfriend of abusing my children and getting him involved when he did absolutely nothing wrong, eventually that relationship ended but not for that reason. It's a control issue for sure and I believe her dad is intimidated by my daughter forming any type of bond with a man other than him. He wants her all to himself. Which is unfair, because I never gave him a hard time about girls he's dated. I told him as long has they're decent people , not on drugs and treat my daughter well, I don't care who hes with. I am not that territorial baby mama. This just skims the surface of all the horrible shit he's put me through over the years. After I filed for primary, he filed an emergency petition against me claiming I'm emotionally and physically abusing my daughter. Not sure how this petition was granted but eventually after not seeing her for 15 days, I went to court with my attorney and everything was fixed and his petition was thrown out due to lack of evidence. My trial is in 2 months and it's been torture waiting on this day to come. It's been put on hold for months because the court system is pushed back due to covid and my lawyer also had to extend the trial because he had to go out on medical leave for a bit.
So back to the topic of me and my bf. We decided to keep my daughter out of the picture for now until after court. But we had our sons get acquainted and things seemed to be going well. We were spending a lot more time together over the summer and we were making progress in our relationship. I was really happy about this. But then it seemed like things came to a halt, and we stopped doing things as a family and just reverted back to only seeing each other on weekends he doesn't have his son. We live 40 minutes away from each other, so it's hard to spend time together with our kids schedules and work schedules. I see him a few times a month tops. it sucks but I love him and I've tried my best to make this relationship work. We text and talk everyday.
Recently, I confronted him and asked him why we haven't spent any time together with the kids. I told him I felt he has no desire to grow as a family unit and I wanted to know whats up, being that we've been together almost 2 years. He confessed the reason he hasn't wanted to engage the kids is because he is nervous about my daughters dad. He says he's afraid that when we introduce my daughter, her dad is gonna go A wall and accuse him of abuse like he did with my ex. I didn't understand where this was coming from, because I had been very open with him from day 1 about both of my kids fathers and my history with them. I told him everything he deserved to know. But then he told me that about 2 months ago he had talked with his lawyer and asked for advice on the situation and what he should do if my ex should ever tried to pull a stunt like with the last guy. His lawyer flat out told him to end things with me and that there's nothing protecting him and those kind of accusations could ruin is custody arrangement with his son and even his job position. She basically told him hes risking everything if he moves forward with me and he's in for a world of trouble. He has also discussed this matter with friends, family and colleagues who have gone through similar issues.
I'm crushed, I went into this relationship wanting to settle down. I told him from the door I wanted a family and marriage. He said he wanted that too, but now that he's been given this advice, he's basically telling me that right now he cant give that to me cause he feels he's at risk. He says he doesn't know what to do. I asked him, so what are we supposed to do, just not engage our kids and keep only seeing each other a few times a month? I understand his perspective, but what makes this hard is that he's coming to this decision 2 years in. I'm fully invested in this relationship and he just unloads this on me. It's not fair, I cant just be happy and have a good relationship with someone because my daughters dad is unhinged and his behavior is unpredictable. How is it right for someone to have that kind of control over my life and the person I'm involved with. Please don't judge me, I know I picked the people I had my kids with and can't change that now. I've been bearing the cross of my choices for years and I'm trying to make things right and do right by my kids. I'm just so down about this and feel so guilty for pushing people away with the baggage I bring. What should I tell my bf?

2023.03.30 19:55 LightSamus A list w/links of every song in Final Fantasy XIV that originated in other Final Fantasy (and friends) titles (updated for 6.35!)
Old version:
https://www.reddit.com/ffxiv/comments/ikdjr7/a_list_wlinks_of_every_song_in_final_fantasy_xiv/ Whew, it's been a good while since I last updated this! Includes the latter additions to Shadowbringers (primarily Eden and Bozja) as well as everything in Endwalker so far up until 6.35. A few previously missed tracks were also added!
Naturally, there are no holds barred on this list and spoilers aplenty! Anything
bold is newly added since my last list.
I'm very aware a lot of the links for music used in the past are very much dead now, so I'll be going over everything as soon as I've a bit of time and replacing as much as I can.
If there's anything missing or any mistakes, let me know!

2023.03.30 19:55 M3cky [IWantOut] 23M Germany -> Japan/Sweden/Finnland
Hello!
I‘m thinking about moving out of Germany but have no idea how to start the process. Do I need to contact my country’s authorities to get things started? Or do I need to contact the authorities of the country i want to move to? Do I need to look for a place to live in before everything? Absolutely 0 clue.
I have a finished apprenticeship as management assistant in office communication, 3 1/2 years of military background and currently I’m working in my own company (my 2 siblings and me inherited from our father who shot himself last year) in the area of induction hardening.
I currently have enough money to get from month to month but my siblings and I have to probably sell the company soon because the inheritance tax will probably hit like a truck. After we have paid our mother her obligatory share of the inheritance (she rejected the heritage, but still gets… I think 1/8 iirc) we might have some spare money, but I can’t tell you how much it will be right now because I don’t know if we sell it or find another way.
I guess that’s all the information I can provide for now. Tell me please if I forgot something.
Any help would be appreciated!

2023.03.30 19:54 czaqattack HARDEN
The flow of the offense when he is on the court is magical. I've only been a student of basketball for a few years, but the difference between the offense with and without him is astonishing. He reads not only defenses well, but his own team too. There's an uncanny ability to recognize when his teammates are hot or cold, when they need the ball, or when they need to be kept away from the action.
This stuck out to me the most last night during a sequence where Embiid thought he was fouled and got heated with the refs. (I can't remember right now when exactly it was, but I'll try to find it later). Harden led the offense on the next possession and made sure that Embiid never got near enough the ball to smell it. It was like that the next two possessions as well. It takes a lot to recognize when your teammate is tilted like that, and a ton of leadership to make a decision to put the ball in everyone else's hands. And the trust in the rest of the team to step up.
I'm all for Embiid winning an MVP (and he certainly deserves it this year), but I can't overlook how much of a difference maker Harden has been. I hope he chooses to stay in Philly past this season, but no matter what he does in the future it has been a joy to watch him this year.

2023.03.30 19:53 quantims Picking new MVP winners helps insure against voter biases: a defense of voter fatigue in award voting, and why I think voters should give Embiid the MVP
I have a bit of a background in voting theory, which has made me think about this fiery MVP debate in a bit of a different light than I've seen in the back-and-forth. Specifically, I've been thinking about the limitations of the MVP voting system and what the NBA and the awards voters can do to make the system work better. (I have a
longer version of this argument here for those more curious about the voting angle of this.)
The points-based voting system (an adaptation of
Borda Count) used to pick the MVP is
extremely good at picking the winner that is the most agreeable to the MVP voters. This means that a weirdo voter who puts De'Aaron Fox first on his ballot doesn't put the MVP award at risk, but
systematic bias (whether from narrative, looking at the same stats, aesthetic preferences, etc.) does.
The good news is that
one-off goofball voters won't send the MVP to the wrong guy. The bad news is that
the MVP voting system is going to capture whatever incorrect biases voters have (virtually) every time. Because of this, voters should be
really confident that a player deserves several MVPs before they give them to him. But voters
shouldn't be confident that Jokic deserves the 2023 MVP over Jokic; they're extremely close by any measure, and a lot of the advanced metrics (especially defensive metrics) that drive the conversation are ...uh... in a beta stage.
So, from my perspective, the MVP voters can either:
- Give Jokic (or Giannis) the MVP, and risk Embiid never getting an MVP when there's a decent chance that we'll later come to believe that he was the most deserving of an MVP. Pretty bad!
- Give Embiid the MVP, and risk Jokic (or Giannis) not winning a third, and thus not winning quite as many MVPs as they deserved. Significantly less bad!
Voter fatigue helps push voters toward the second outcome, which, in my opinion, is the better option. So a little voter fatigue can act as a counterbalance to whatever aesthetic or statistical biases voters have at a given time.
Since MVP voters don't know which way they may be misjudging players, we know that the objective advanced stats are underbaked at this stage,
and the MVP race is extremely close, I think breaking the near-tie in favor of Embiid is the smarter choice.

2023.03.30 19:53 GreatLamingtons [25/M] Looking for [Relationship] - Let's talk about anything and everything, including lamingtons, and see where it leads from there
Hello, I'm a 25-year-old European man.
I came here hoping to find someone like-minded with whom I could spend time. I absolutely love spending time in nature, which is largely due to the fact that I live in the country. Going on lengthy treks or trekking to talk about pretty much anything is one of my favorite pastimes. Along with that, I enjoy touring historical sites, national parks, talking books and cultural trends, and browsing antique book stores, among other things.
Faith, history, politics, music, and agriculture are among my major pursuits. In addition, I enjoy playing computer games with my pals. I have a bachelor's degree in history and am presently employed full-time. Politically, I'm a conservative who is forthright about my views, so please feel free to inquire. Friends and family mean the world to me.
You may be wondering what I'm searching for. I'd love to meet someone who is humble, moral, and compassionate. Ideally, you would be a Catholic like me, but I am willing to meet someone from another Christian denomination. Open to an LDR since you never know where you will meet someone. Some additional details about myself: White/European; 173 centimeters (5'8") height; dark brown hair; beard and mustache; brown eyes; average frame; busy exerciser. I don't smoke, I do drink socially. If this post piques your curiosity, please contact me via chat, comment, or message. Have a wonderful day or night.

2023.03.30 19:53 hraath Brand new Spector Legend 5 Standard review of quality control
The bass arrived in the mail adequately packed in the usual double cardboard box. Electrically everything works, and in the first 5 minute lookover all was good. After getting familiar with it over a couple hours here's the things I found.
- Neck relief and nut height were both correct.
- Body and headstock finish was good with no blemishes.
- Nut is a hair too wide, protrudes off the treble side of the neck by about 0.5 mm. Not much, but you can easily feel it
- One high fret under one or two strings, the D,G string action was set super high to hide this, about 2.75 mm @ 12th fret. I prefer about 2 mm on the G (which is pretty normal medium-low).
- Fret ends had been re-dressed (by Korg QC?) but they didn't do a tidy job. A few file teeth marks and the like, mostly on the treble edge of the fretboard, so you wouldn't see it from playing position. Actually unsightly at the treble side of the high frets, its visible where they've filed and sanded in a couple directions, and gone through the clearcoat. Also visible glue leeching under the clear around the fret ends.
- One clear coat bubble on the treble side of the fretboard
- I'll just spot level the one fret and clean up the edges of the fretboard.
- Control cavity cover was oversized for the pocket, and jammed in there. I needed a hook to extract it and then sand it down to size.
- Polishing compound residue on the neck bolts and ferrules, and around control cavity
- The flat pocket for the bridge recess into the curved body is about 1 mm larger than the bridge off the tail end, so there is a gap at the back of the bridge. The wood under the bridge is not well finished, a rough CNC endmill finish with clear coat only, so I'll probably remove the bridge and smooth and darken it.
- Two of the pickup mounting screw heads were completely stripped, needing an extractor. One of these screws wasn't even cast properly and was missing threads, but the factory worker just yolo sent it with a power driver.
After checking the setup and bringing the action back to earth it feels pretty good to play. So I'll keep it and clean it up.
So its been maybe 16 years since I've bought a new in box instrument. I prefer used, but this time I wasn't finding anything like this anywhere near me, or any reasonable used deals (just Squier J's and P's as far as the eye could see, asking too much money). Also no Spector dealers within 24 hr drive of me, so I took a flyer on brand new.
I have two other Indonesian instruments (used). One is an excellent specimen, another is a total lemon I bought to practice repairwork on. None of the issues I mentioned are individual dealbreakers, but it feels like death by a thousand niggles. If I had spent 30 minutes in a brick and mortar shop, I probably would have passed on it or discussed with the owner if they could have it cleaned up at Spector's cost. Should I have just spent over 2x the money for a MIK Pulse II? Maybe.

2023.03.30 19:53 whos_chair_is_that Most of Chicago is now course-less
| I live on the North Side of Chicago, which only had one 9 hole course to service the entire North Chicago area - Lincolnwood Centennial (Lincolnwood, IL). This short course (longest hole is 240 ft, but near the city you can’t complain) is now under construction. That means the only courses in the immediate Chicagoland area are Illinois Institute of Technology’s course (next to the Sox Stadium!) and a little further south is Paul McBeth’s designed Jackson Park (which is also a ~ball~ golf course). https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WenY-RRTYiY Anyone familiar with Chicago knows that driving from the northside to the southside is NO quick drive, especially when there will be only 2 courses in the entire city that are going to be packed and have HUGE traffic during the summer. I don’t even want to think about drives when the Cubs and Sox play at home, and driving to the Glenview course means going through O’Hare airport (the busiest airport in the country). This is a tragedy!!! I am not saying that these courses are inaccessible by any means, I’m very certain I will be at all of the pins you see all the time. But think of the number of people who won’t consistently make that drive. Many people in Chicago do not own a car, either by choice or not being able to afford one. Public transportation to any of these places from my neighborhood would take hours. We’re talking about the 3rd biggest city in the U.S. , a city that loves sports, a city which faces poverty where I’m sure kids would love to go play a free sport outside. That is a ridiculous amount of people who do not have access to a course in a relatively popular disc golf state. If you haven’t been to Chicago, it is not all concrete. As you can see in the picture, there’s is plenty of parks, especially in the North suburbs, but nothing to service all of these communities. I’m not sure what it takes to plant a course, but I would love any assistance organizing something to service this area… Note: Now I REALLY wish the Cubs didn’t trade Dylan Cease ———————————————- TLDR: There’s like a million people who are missing out on disc golf for no good reason. Let’s turn gangbanging into chainbanging. submitted by whos_chair_is_that to discgolf [link] [comments] |
2023.03.30 19:53 hereforaita21 Need suggestion!
Hi Guys!
I don't know if this is the right sub to post, but anyway here I go. So I had ordered few minimalist accessories from an insta page on 21ST JAN 23 ( I had ordered for my bday which was on 26th and she had promised to deliver by the week ).
2 weeks pass by and i continuosly follow up and there's no update. Then after nearly 4 weeks, she texts me back and says my delivery got lost by the courier company and she gave me options to either re deliver or refund, I was a stuuuupid period and chose to re order be because I actually liked her products.
Note that this wasn't a fake page, my fam and friends have ordered previously and the quality was genuine.
It's been 2 months now and I have been following up constantly, there's no update. She sometimes answers the calls, but claims network issues and cuts and never writes back.
So is there any suggestions as to what can be done or legally can I do something?
Would appreciate your advice.

2023.03.30 19:52 SouthernSapphic Everyone is doing the same things they bullied me for years ago
I nearly lost friends for liking Undertale, promised I'd never mention it again. Now everyone is pretending it's nostalgic instead of cringey dogshit.
I've always identified as asexual, but I'd seen enough blatant homophobia in the community that I said I wanted to distance myself from it. I never even said I wasn't ace anymore. My friends were mad at me for weeks and kept reminding me that "real people don't get to change their sexuality". One of them even posted shit about how he wanted to kill people who pretended to be asexual for clout.
I had to apologize over and over again. Now it's 2023 and the exact same friends are like "oh, it turns out that I was a repressed gay man!" "I'm bisexual and this is my girlfriend!". Like it's OK for them to change, I guess. I never actually changed and they still gave me shit for it.
I feel like I should be happy that it's suddenly OK to do these things, but I'm not. I'm angry. I learned to hate these things. It makes me mad that people like Undertale, or are allowed to be flexible with their labels. I liked Disney princess movies (sexist) and anime with problematic subplots and there were times people got so mad at me I wished I was dead for hurting them so deeply. Now everyone is like "nothing is perfect!" as they continue to play Bug Fables, a game they nearly dropped me for because there's a transphobic boss, even though they're the ones who recommend it to me.
I've been on my best behavior for years, and for what? I was a stupid piece of shit when I did those things. Why is OK for everyone else?

2023.03.30 19:52 SenatorSmeagol2020 6 weeks in , 51.2k Followers , growing at about 1k followers a day- LESSONS LEARNED
Note, this is only about growing a audience.
First and foremost, edits, music, transitions , etc.. all that shit is meaningless, its like sprinkles, its great to have but if the cake itself is crap it wont change anything.
With that being said, become a subject matter expert in something you care about. I talk about language learning, I don't teach english I talk about HOW to learn english. Why should the audience listen to you? In my case I learned spanish to fluency in my 20s, something that is objectively difficult that taught me TONS of lessons and has altered my perception of the world. My passion for the subject bleeds through the camera, its infectious. The spanish gives me TONS of credibility. I'm at the level of spanish where I clap back at haters in their OWN language, with their own slang, that make other natives of their language laugh. You CANNOT be afraid to defend your thoughts/ideas.
CONTENT is KING, ask yourself this. WHAT value does my content bring to people?? If you can clearly answer that question your channel will blow up. In my case its, I help people learn languages effectively & quickly, I open the world up to them , I remove this idea that fluency in a 2nd language is impossible, i'm a living breathing example of how its possible, I tell them IM NOT SMARTER THAN YOU I just work harder, and people resonate with that. I'm not a genius. ADD value to their lives. it's no more complicated than that.
People Follow you because of the VALUE you bring into their lives. Its not about YOU , it's about THEM.
I talk to my audience directly , I tell them in english and spanish what I think, how they should study languages, what their goals should be, how to overcome fear of speaking. I tell them , I'm not your teacher i'm your guide. At the end of the day they have to put the effort in. I don't sell them on bullshit, i don't sell fluff, i'm ME , i'm RAW, i'm authentically myself, no frills. and people fuck with that.
I clap back at haters, people TRY me in the comments, i respond back with a video. I don't take shit from cowards behind a screen. People connect with that. It takes balls to put yourself out there on the internet.
Literally I just rant in my bedroom or my backyard on my iphone, no edits, no music, no posting schedules or any fancy crap. Although I will start professionalizing this later. Right now i'm in my early Alex Jones days, just rants off the dome.
(excuse any spelling errors, i'm writing this rant from my iphone)
Also if you check my charts, I kinda fell off for a period because I went through a terrible break up and didn't post for like nearly 2 weeks.

2023.03.30 19:52 good-luck-commander Buying House with Central AC but only need regular cooling in 2 rooms
I live in a tropical country where it's its unusual to have central AC. Minisplits are very common. Its one of the hottest and most humid countries where you can live (close to the equator).
Im considering buying a house that has central AC. The current owner is from the US, I believe. Now I'm a little unsure about the property due to the AC. I usually only need cooling in two rooms (office during the day plus bedroom at night). Most of the rest of the day I keep the doors open, cause I'm mostly used to the heat. Also dry air tends to give me problems, so I prefer to have the open doors in the living room and kitchen in the morning and evening as long as it isn't too hot outside.
When you have central AC is it pretty much expected that I run it 24/7? Because I am not sure if I would like or need constant cooling. Or can it be run for parts of the day, the turned off for a few hours before turning it back on for the night?
I was thinking about just changing the central AC to minisplits for each room, but maybe that's excessive. Or I could just buy minisplits for the office and bedroom, then turn on the central AC on days were I want complete cooling for the whole house.

2023.03.30 19:52 hereforaita21 Needs suggestions for insta scam

2023.03.30 19:52 Affectionate-Cat5767 Discussion about the history of Deity work, pantheons, brand name gods, and alternatives.
Hey guys, Does anybody here not work with deities as a pagan, witch, folk practitioner, or whomever you identify yourself as? If you dont, why don’t you? Also, what are some alternative ways you’ve incorporated spirit into your practice?
I’m not entirely sure if deity work is right for me and I feel like I want more agency over my life rather than being reliant on a deity. I also don’t quite understand how there is a huge emphasis on deity work let alone “brand name gods” within the pantheons that most of us if not all of us are familiar with. From what I also understand, well known pantheons and deities weren’t exactly worshipped by the common folk, in fact deities were very different depending on a certain village or location.
When it comes to the terminology and etymology of the word pagan, it used to describe those that are common folk, country dwellers, peasants, and civilians. In this aspect, the term pagan was used in a derogatory way. It was derogatory in the sense that it was used to classify and differentiate between those that were common folk and those that were wealthy and had status. In the late Roman Empire and the rise of Christianity, it was used to derogatorily to describe those that didn’t adhere to or practice Abrahamic religions and still those that were common folk.
Now when it comes to acknowledging the difference in class, we should consider that there is a possibility that well known pantheons and mythologies were created by the ruling class and considerably used political as propaganda. Pantheons are composed of a set of gods organized into a “family tree”. We should question how they came to be and how they held such status even in their “family trees”. Were they really popular amongst the common folk? Or, was there some elements of classism and higher authority involved in determining what gods consisted of a pantheon, a family tree, and what gods were more important than others? I’m sure there are deities that aren’t well known and now forgotten that were excluded from a pantheon.
Regarding propaganda, Take the Norse pantheon and Valhalla for example. The mythology behind Valhalla could have been used (I’m not saying that it was) to promote people going to the war. Essentially it was used to justify a draft almost. This was done while knowing that people will most likely listen to some divine authority. If there was no divine authority telling common folk and heathens to go to war so they can potentially die and go to Valhalla then would the common folk and heathens really listen and sacrifice themselves? Also we should question how Odin became the “Allfather”. You can find a video lecture on this topic on youtube by searching “How did Odin Become Allfather” by Artith Härger.
If anybody would like to contribute to this I’d be glad to hear what you’d have to say. I’m also still interested in alternatives.

2023.03.30 19:52 LIS1050010 Smart Ways to Conserve Water During Drought (or Anytime)
Water is life.
All good disaster planning includes water storage for a temporary disruption, but what if a prolonged drought forces you to take extreme measures? What are
ways to conserve water over weeks, months, or even years?
Lessons From Cape Town, South Africa
In 2017, in Cape Town, South Africa,
residents were required to restrict their water use to 50 litres (13 gallons) per person per day during a severe drought.
That included:
- drinking
- flushing
- garden
- hygiene
- dishes
- and laundry
In contrast, most Americans use between 70-100 gallons of water daily!
Residents of Cape Town and other drought survivors devised clever ways to conserve water in extreme drought that we can learn from as many parts of our country dry out. We’ll cover those later in detail.
But first…
We Are Currently Headed Towards Our Own Water Disaster
If you follow the news, you probably heard that
Lake Powell’s water level is so low that its hydroelectric plant is in danger of shutting down.
This is unprecedented.
Lake Powell has sunk to
28% of capacity.
Its sister reservoir, Lake Mead, is down to 26% of capacity. This may be uninteresting to you unless you are one of the
40 million people that receive their water from these reservoirs. That’s 13% of the US population.
If you are one of these unlucky ones, expect unprecedented water restrictions in the coming months and years. Unfortunately, other areas may not be far behind.
Drought Conditions are Widespread
Drought conditions are not restricted to California and Arizona.
40% of the United States, including all western states from Montana down to Texas, is currently experiencing some form of drought. 25% of that is categorized as Extreme or Exceptional Drought. (
See Drought.gov).
Perhaps even more disturbing is the impact of drought on the farms and ranches in the west. California grows over a third of our country’s vegetables and two-thirds of its fruits and nuts. Drought conditions that impair the ability of California farmers to grow the crops needed will only add to our country’s food source instability.
Ultimately, drought conditions will impact all of us directly or indirectly. So what can we as individuals do to conserve this precious resource?
These water conservation tips range from “no brainers” to radical, worst-case-scenario. You may not be prepared to use all of them now, but establishing good practices prepares you in case your water supply diminishes.
Easy Ways to Save Water and Money
We are meant to be good stewards of our planet and resources.
Water doesn’t need to be scarce in your area for you to use it wisely. The following ideas are “low-hanging fruit” that still result in significant water savings. Moreover, these are so simple as to rise to the level of common sense.
Pick one or three and start including them in your daily routine.
- Install low-flow shower heads. This is super easy, and you won’t even notice a difference. Some towns and cities even provide them for free.
- Don’t run the water while you brush your teeth or are shaving. Duh.
- Defrost meat in the microwave or in the fridge overnight instead of in water.
- Put a pitcher of cold water in your fridge so you don’t waste water waiting for it to cool.
- Clean vegetables and fruits in a bowl of water instead of under the faucet.
- Scrape dishes into the garbage or compost and skip using the garbage disposal to save water. Keep a small compost bin in the kitchen to make this easier and more automatic.
- A dishwasher is generally more water-efficient than washing dishes by hand. However, if you need to wash dishes by hand, fill a second sink or container with water for rinsing.
- Make sure dishwashers and clothes washers are full before starting a load.
- When washing clothes, match the water level to the load’s size.
- Take shorter showers. Set a timer to keep everyone in the family aware of water usage.
- Water your lawn at night. This reduces evaporation of water.
- Use a broom to clean your driveway or sidewalk instead of hosing it down.
- Don’t let the hose run when washing your car. Instead, install a spray nozzle or turn it off until done soaping.
- Insulate hot water pipes so you don’t have to wait as long for hot water.
- Check for AND FIX leaks around toilets, sinks, and pipes.
- Even if you don’t suspect a leak, put a couple of drops of food coloring in your toilet tank. If the water in the bowl changes color without flushing, you have a sneaky leak in your toilet.
- Never pour water down the drain when there could be another use for it, like your pet’s water bowl or watering house plants.
Ways to Conserve Water During a Drought
If your region is consistently dry (as mine is) or if conditions cause water levels to be lower than normal, you may need to take more drastic water-saving measures.
Some of these require changes in habits, and some require spending money. However, all of them result in real water savings, especially collectively.
- Install sink aerators. They mix air into your water, so you don’t notice a lower water flow.
- Install water-efficient toilets. You can save literal gallons with each flush with newer models.
- If you have an older toilet and aren’t ready to replace it, you can place a brick, rock, or bottle filled with gravel into your toilet tank. This fools your toilet into using less water to flush. Ingenious!
- Staying with a toilet theme, don’t feel you have to flush every time you tinkle. 🙂
- Cut your showers short. You can install a timer in your shower to remind you to keep it to 5 minutes or less. Depending on your water flow, a shower uses 2-5 gallons a minute, so every minute counts.
- If you absolutely need to take a bath, only partially fill the tub.
- Boil food in as little water as possible. You only need to just cover pasta or potatoes.
- Place a steamer over boiling pasta and steam your vegetables. 2 in 1.
- Save the water from cooking food and recycle it in other cooking or on your garden. That goes the same for water from canned vegetables.
- Designate one water glass for each family member and just use the one for the day to save on washing dishes.
- Plant drought-resistant trees and plants.
- Mulch around your garden, trees, and plants to retain moisture longer. Also, read about ways to garden in droughts.
- Cover pools.
Radical Ways to Conserve Water During Extreme Drought
There may come a time when nearly everything you do is focused around conserving precious water. The following ideas came from the personal experiences of a Cape Town resident and the personal account of long-time prepper, Jim Acosta, during a 2014 drought in California.
- Think every time you open a tap and shut it off as soon as possible.
- Put a bowl in every sink to catch water and then use it to flush toilets or, if it’s clean, in the garden or laundry.
- Put a bucket in your shower to catch the water as it heats up. This is clean water, so you can use it for any purpose.
- Put an instant hot water heater under your sink, so you don’t have to run water to warm it.
- Put a greywater catchment system in your house. This method pumps or pipes water from sinks, showers, and laundry into grey water tanks or directly onto your lawn or plants. This is not safe for gardens but can be used to water trees, plants, and lawns. Greywater can also be used to flush toilets. Here is just one of many ways to build a greywater catchment.
- Turn off the inlet valves on your toilet and use buckets of grey water to flush them.
- Switch to biodegradable soaps and shampoos to make grey water safer for plants.
- Limit showers to 90 seconds (apparently, this can actually be done).
- Use biodegradable wipes, sponge baths, and dry shampoos instead of showers.
- Wash clothes less. Use a soak cycle when you wash them to help clean them.
- Capture rainwater using barrels, tanks, or pools. You can use rainwater for toilets or laundry.
Real-life Examples from Cape Town, South Africa
One Survival Mom reader, Andre, who hails from Cape Town, had this to say in 2018
when Cape Town was experiencing one of the most extreme modern-day droughts in history:
“We need at LEAST 450 million liters of water per day at the lowest possible usage. We are currently at about 540 million liters per day. What people are missing, this coming season is there must be enough rain to not only supply the current need, but enough to fill the dams to cover the 2018/2019 summer period, too. What are the chances of that after three years of the worst possible drought, due to a high-pressure system not budging on the West Coast of Africa, keeping our rains away? Cape Town and its surrounds are a huge contributor to the South African economy so if the rains stay away and we do run out of water, it can trigger an event to bring the entire country down if we cannot sort desalination in bulk, and that takes 2-3 years to put into place.”
Two Ways to Think About Water Conservation During Drought
Ultimately, Cape Town residents banded together and, in the millions, worked toward conserving every drop possible.
Here’s how they did it, according to Andre:
“
There are two ways to think about conserving water in a drought: - WANTS – Throw lots of money at the problem like water tanks for your house, expensive filters, and all that.
- NEEDS – Be very wise financially, buy things secondhand to save money, and think about each liter of water used.
The Biggest Problem During Extreme Drought May Not Be What You Think
The core problem I identified is not drinking water. That’s easy to buy in bulk and store.
The problem is sewage water. If you don’t flush that toilet, you will face some serious problems, not to mention smells.
So, here is what we did: - Rule 1: No baths ever, and shower only when you have to.
- Rule 2: No watering the garden.
- Rule 3: Catch all water used.
- Rule 4: Wear clothes longer. If you sweat a lot, rinse your clothes whilst waiting for the shower to get hot.
- Rule 4: All cisterns can only be filled with buckets. Closed the taps on all of them.
Before you open any tap, think! Then open the tap very small and close it ASAP. Catch that water for toilet use. Every drop adds up during the day.
Use Showers Strategically to Flush the Toilet
Invest in wet wipes and dry shampoo to be able to skip showers. Catch all the shower water in a bucket used for flushing the toilet only.
But, here’s the thing with showering.
You have to use the toilet, right? You can shower as quickly as you can, 90 seconds as advised, BUT
if you run out of toilet water, you defeat saving shower water.
So use just enough shower water so that you can flush your toilet for the days you don’t shower.
Help the Dishwasher Save Water
Ensure your dishwasher uses less than 5 liters (1.32 gallons) per wash for dishwashing.
Strategies like
water-efficient loading, eco-settings, and more can help your dishwasher save water.
The Washing Machine: The Biggest User
In the end, after all the above was done, the washing machine was left being the biggest user. A full load in the washing machine uses about 150-200 liters (39-52 gallons.) Now, you can spend a lot of money and buy one that uses less water, or always use a full load using the soaking cycle so that the clothes can soak properly, or you can wear clothes longer in-between washes.
So, we first caught the rinse water and then re-used it for the next load’s washing water. Then we stopped the rinsing cycle by simply changing the detergent we used. We now could wash more frequently.
We were able to catch a few liters of rain one day, so we started using rainwater for washing clothes. Using that rainwater, we did not use any drinking water for three washes with all that greywater used for toilets.
That was the best day ever!
We add HTH (pool chlorine) to the grey water stored in drums to ensure no smell. It works quite well.
Now, you can add pumps and pipes to transport water from one place to another, or you can get some exercise and fetch the water with a bucket for the toilets. We chose the exercise option.
The Results of Andre’s Family’s Efforts to Conserve Water
Before this drought all started, we used 25 kiloliters (6,604 gallons) per month for six people in our household. When we had to limit our usage to 50 liters (13 gallons) per person per day, through all these efforts,
we dropped to a total of 5000 liters (1,320 gallons) per month for our entire six-person household. Four of us work from home.
Ultimately, the residents of Cape Town lowered their city’s water usage to about 510 million liters per day, down from 1.2 billion liters just three years earlier. As Andre said, “Low-cost changes with a massive impact on our usage.”
Conclusion
Water is a precious resource. And whether you’re experiencing drought conditions or not, there are lifestyle changes you can make right now to be a better steward of our water supply.
A side benefit for us all, especially preppers, is that the water-saving measures necessary during disasters will be second nature to you.
Feel free to comment with your innovative ideas to conserve water during a drought.

2023.03.30 19:51 Shone-fob R22/R44 or G2CA?
Recently started back up my flight training for my PPL. Been checking out different schools around my area and have a decision to make.
The nearest school to me about a 35min drive flies the G2CA. The other 2 are about an hour and a half away. One has multiple R22s one rated for instrument and an R44. The other only has an R44 but is located in at an airport with an ATCT, which is nice to get accustomed to.
I would like to go all the way through to CFI, and I have found the G2 the most comfortable, safest, and being the closest easiest option to achieve this. However with the SFAR 73 and rules about flying Robinsons it seems like finding a job with time being in the G2 would be near impossible.
I do have around 50 hours in the R22 already so the question I guess is, do you believe a job would hire someone who has a majority of their time in the G2 but has flown the I suppose for enough time to meet the SFAR 73.
