I should start this with I was warned.
I recently purchased the rocky 8-in boots and knowing the brand Rocky I was expecting a quality piece well engineered for the many hours that we spend on our feet.
That was not what I was told to expect. An experienced carrier in my office was very adamant about how our postal shoes are made as cheaply as possible and sold for top dollar even the trusted brands.
After experiencing fall at the end of last year, I decided it was time to go ahead and make the purchase for any future liability issue. After an extensive search of the two states that I live near. I finally had to just order them on-line since I couldn't find them anywhere, in a store that I could get to outside of work.
Keep in mind I've worn many pairs of Rockies and other boots so I know my sizing and I felt confident the purchase. When they arrived I slipped them on with my orthotics in place expecting to just go to work in the morning and they're narrow in the ball of foot, the leather across the area is gripping my foot in a way that is not helping but will eventually cause blisters and bunions. When I moved to the hill of the foot my foot is firmly placed, but very loose as I go to tie the boot there's a very cheap wire like cord for Strings that seems to be added as an afterthought. And when the boot is fully tied and tight there's so much additional leather in the ankle that there is no form of support. Which also causes my foot to come away from the heel and not me out in place which is a safety hazard. These boots are a joke, and I want to know how can we Rectify this.
From what I found in just my local stores you could apply the SR USA tag to more than half of the commonly purchased; not to mention, they might have an even better safety rating. Why are we stuck wearing ill fitting poorly made safety hazards? Is there's some kind of rule in the contract, or can we submit new shoes and ideas for the tag?

Well, this was different to what I originally planned. I was going to a small town to trade with some of the warriors who went ahead of us, some small town that we raided and pillaged before, going home with what we looted, wasn't much to enslave so we killed them all, and then after walking home with food and random stuff we took, we was going to return to buy slaves or food, or well, mainly work slaves, lioness and lions aren't that good for sex, so we just use them to work around our homes or food plants, or if they are well broken, to even hunt for us, there pretty good at that.
BUT!!! How was I to expect some freakish ALIENS with magic that killed many of my sisters without any effort…
Those small hairless pinkish skin looking creatures, at first glance seem tasty and even adorable, kinda wimpy that seemed pose no threat to us, who are smaller than even the lioness, and yet they possess so much power that I still can't seem to think how? I mean they are able to conjure the very land to shake beneath our paws, they even control nature herself against us!
Now, me and a few others in chains marching forward with the same captors that were annihilated, any of us are too scared to even try to escape, of course one of us could take their magic sticks, but how would it even work? I didn't bother with such an idea, and all of us who are able to use half of our heads kept quiet and obedient, there was one who was roudy ten minutes ago but after getting hit in the head with those magic sticks a couple of times she kept silent, the pink aliens seem to use those sticks like we do with our paws or claws too.
We continued walking, for a while, we were exhausted. I looked over to see our captors and they don't seem bothered whatsoever… isn't he tired? We walked more, i feel a bit weak as my legs start to fail, but another woman in front was the first to collapse, causing the whole line to stop, the aliens walked up to her, before shouting something I can't understand ahead, before one run back, with a leather bag full of water, there was some noises and chatter, and as I watch, not one of them are exhausted or eve that tired, probably have some sweat that is more visible, but that is probably from the heat of the desert, but nothing to show they cant walk, this is insane!
After she had her water they all seemed to try and get her up, of course with little success, they clearly don't seem as strong as us, it would be obvious but I had to think because of their magic, maybe it has limits?
My own thoughts got rudely interrupted as the aliens got annoyed, they all seem to have lifted or moved her onto one of those, what are they called again? stuff movers? those wooden things with wheels that some of those horses use to carry a lot of stuff… oh its a carriage! as she and a few others got on them to relax and rest, one of those aliens scoffed. The last 3 of us didn't get on, even though we were tired. I don't want to push my luck or get embarrassed like that…
I also notice those same carriages had horses pulling them, they seem different though? bigger than the ones i know, and they seem more to be on all fours, their bodies look off too, it is certainly an odd sight, but clearly strong enough to pull my sisters, one of the girls next to me chuckled before shouting at one of them "hah! I'm surprised how that horse is able to move your fat ass!" This got a chuckle out of me and the other one to the right, while the said woman all looked embarrassed, especially the bigger one.
The aliens looked at her with slight concern, but realizing she was just talking they simply ignored and we all moved on.
a while went by, about another 10 or so minutes, and we were able to see some structures and a big wall in the distance, finally, and I heard relief of the other too, as we were really worn out, we all stopped again as the aliens seem to get the girls of the carriages, while moving us three onto them, another big relief, don't get how these aliens are still not worn out after all this walking, the four who got of grudged before getting before obeying , and moving for us to have our rest, the same human who scoffed at them, gave us all a look that is pretty universal as disgust, the talkative hyena next to me made a comment
"yea, keep that look up, when, and I mean when I grab you, ill cut you up while cracking that pelvis of yours to teach you your place! and I will laugh at your used body!".
Is she damn insane! Does she just realize what she said to our captors!!! oh goddess what is he gonna do to her now…
of course, she is probably the luckiest hyena in the land as the alien simply shrugged and walked off, all of us besides the cocky woman sighed a relief, the chubby hyena made a remark to her stupid action "you should be lucky they don't understand us… you'd be dead, and who be laughing now?" The chubby hyena simply laughed at her, as she should for the cocky one's sheer act of cockyness, this caused all the others to laugh also at her which must be a bit humiliating.
As the few minutes went on and as we got closer to the aliens camp, the other hyena on the carriage who was silent the whole time, grabbed my attention, "hey, do you know any of the girls here?" she asks, quietly, I look around to see the other woman, who is too distracted trying to either not faint or talking to each other.
"no, I don't know any women here personally, you?"
She looks over to the fat one "besides my sister garda, no, no one else, my name is Grid "she responds, almost softly, damn you'd probably take her for a rabbit by how soft her voice must be.
I just merely smiled and responded, "I got no name myself, just call me scar" I say while pointing to a massive one I have on my arm from a hawk a few years back getting a nice clean strike on me, it still remained and it's what I got called by others.
Gridasimply chuckles, before responding "my name came cause i was really small, while garda was born rather large, but that would be obvious here huh…"
i ask "that is quite different between you two, It is surprising" i ask genuinely curious by such a concept, Grida only laughs "yes, well our slaves was a highlander rabbit male and a bore male, of course our mother as a child maker have her needs…"
this causes me to interrupt "but shouldn't our blood be superior? usually giving birth to healthy young warriors that shouldn't be affected by the blood of other animals? and by goddess that woman must've been through torture pushing out garda", this cause girda to proper heckle, which grabbed gardas attention, girda continues "yes, the elder manage to help her give birth to us, by natures luck she survived" she looks away to garda waving to her, before continuing, "of course she can't have more cubs after us two, mainly due to the slaves being considered cursed blood that made her children so odd so they have their balls removed, both survived and still serve us, and also cause the elders say she is unable to hold a cub anymore"
This made me shiver a bit. Some hyenas like myself disagree with removing the balls of males of any species. It seems so unnecessary and can lead to pointless death, but still at least they don't have to worry about making children with those two, with their blood cursing unnatural children.
She goes on "still though, we are still decent warriors even with our cursed blood, but we'll never be the elders' personal hunting group… and I don't think any male both our race or any other, would want to breed with us either…" she sighs as i try to comfort her "hey, as you say, even with your curse you manage to be a capable warrior, I mean you survived the aliens magic!"
Grida only sighs once more "yes, but that is more nature's luck, and i'm guessing they chose to let us live…"
we both stopped talking after, I let that thought dwindle on me, I never took into consideration why they let us live, now that I think about it? it would've been so much easier to kill us off as we all were so terrified to do anything, I mean, none of us truly felt fear till then, feeling the dread that we could die so easily, and yet here we are!
the only thing i could think is to enslave us, have us work for them maybe they see our big strong bodies and see potential? never thought I would see the day where my own race got enslaved… I think there is a word for that?
my thoughts go on, drifting of as I lay on my paw on the carriage, as we finally arrived to the aliens home, seeing large wooden walls and seeing more aliens walking on top of them keeping watch, and multiple neatly looking fabric huts, some bigger than others, it's almost like they just arrived here recently, and if they had, they seem to have built up this village rather quickly.
Then the carriages finally stopped, as the aliens guided and pulled us out and took us through their fortified village.
We walk through seeing various aliens talking, cleaning, eating, honestly, seeing them all, this seems more like a raiding camp or war camp, how they all wear the exact same blue or red cloth, of course I am not one to enjoy the details of things, but they seem so intricate and complicated in weird way, also all there homes are a weird pelt hut like camps, like they just arrived, of course they also seem better and a bit more complicated, at best we would have a few pelt huts on far more organized raids especially on stronger villages, here they look different, more advanced even… another alien thing to me.
my thoughts were yet again interrupted, as we all got moved along to four large looking carriages, they were much different, all of them seemed like the skull fences we have back home for slaves, some of them being dead elephant bones or larger horses, good for keeping weaker slaves in, but these are silver instead and don't look like bones, and I got a feeling is a lot stronger and more advance too, so escaping from our captors may not be easy, 3 of us went into one, me and Grida into another, and garda in her own on the third, at least being close to us, after all this, it makes me think… Now that I'm a slave… What now?
The same pink alien who locked the pens, or probably whatever they called these metal cages? Came back with water and food, going from carriage to carriage, a decent amount too. I guess we should be lucky, as some slaves don't get to eat as much as us right now, even if we were smaller, maybe because they presume where a lot bigger some we would eat more? Which would be right.
Still, this is smaller than the food and meat we raided and got at home…

"giant, talking hyenas that walk on two legs you say? Well, now I've seen everything."
One of the general has said, among a couple other high ranking officers, each one controlling a force of their own in the fort they just recently built, they plan to expand for the empire, or at least gain some ground in this strange new world, so of course they did what they were ordered, and also to note one of the other commanding officers, who went out to explore and bought back what are practically war prisoners, to be honest, not the greatest move or tactic in terms of first contact with the natives here?
The year, before the entirety of England, and most of its island colonies, (of what to be discovered so far by the majority of our navy) is 1900, exactly on the day the clock striked zero on 1899, as we all celebrated and partied the end of the year, a time of relaxation and celebration for all, until, this happened.
As I recalled I was out with a few friends, me and the few officers here wasn't with anything fancy, just a good old pub and a few drinks down us, and as we walked out, me and many other passerbyers looked up to a giant bluish green light going through the sky, some believed it was unnatural, some also thought It was God's doing, none the less I don't think it was the lord's work, as a sudden blast and the sky went from the same night sky to what we all know, to a complete different one, the stars where different, and after turning my head slightly to the right and see a planet, visible! in the distance, probably as some scientist would say now thousands upon thousands miles away, but we could see it, it looked like a second moon to the one that was also above us.
And the news spread throughout Britain, a week, with some chaos and panic before the mass calmed down. We also learnt our country and a few colonies that were founded so far came too, mostly intact.
However India, and most of our African colonies except for the ones not inland and also island based have not been founded last I heard, it seems smaller island colonies and ours were sent, and a lot of our navy too, Except for a couple of warships that seem to be still missing.
The generals thought was interrupted, as a fellow officer, who lead the assault came behind him
“What do you think of them, Frederick? Certainly an interesting race?” the officer said, his voice with confidence.
“What I think is possibly reckless and a daft move is what I think! Donathon…” I responded, annoyed by his overconfidence, I continue “I may also like to ask, why the fuck, did you bring outdated weapons into battle! Rifles from the 50s no less, and cannons even older, they seem like something from the damn 30s!” I am annoyed again, waiting for his response.
He took his hand off me, surprised, he began to chuckle a small bit, unfazed by my response “well! Seems like someone has no faith in me!” he grabs one of the rifles, looking in hand “I like to think ahead, you remember the Zulus? How our side, the poor bastards had to fight the literal horde of them, those lot learnt to use our guns against us, clever fighters ya know, makes me not even that surprised” he paused for a bit, before I could respond,
He continues “I didn't want a repeat of what they've been through, we do not know what… Well, anything is capable of, hence the weapons of choice, if whoever wins against us we will still have the upper hand with much better guns and cannons, and knowledge to know what they're capable of!”
I calm my nerves, he isn't wrong, the Zulus were formidable in their numbers and were intelligent fighters that the empire underestimated, but still… “Yes I see now, but to go into the unknown that quickly and end up in a fight, Is still an unnecessary risk, did you at least try to be peaceful?”
He paused and looked away, clearly thinking, before answering “no… they couldn't understand us obviously, however, another native race seems to be friendly, or didn't attack on sight” he says, grabbing a piece of silk cloth, looking at it, seeing a crude drawing of… lions? And hyenas with claws and marks.
“They seem to be slaves…” He said, for me to chip in "slaves?"
He continued “seems like it, large numbers seem petrified and obedient to them and us, all of them wrapped around in a rope like thing, and in large numbers being mistreated, can't think of much else they be”
This changes a lot, the empire banned it nearly 90 years ago, of course our world was hard to deal with, convincing the Africans kingdoms to stop sending or enslaving or even having our ships go at it on each other on the Atlantic and Mediterranean sea, Britain was and still is in, a constant war against slavery.
It would make sense though, every empire and country with power would own or have slaves, i remember my grandfather talked about in the ottoman empire how much African and even some European slaves they had and still had, even with the British ban and sending warships to apprehend there slave vessels, they still have them last I heard, of course we did in the past too, the things we done was no better than any other country, it was considered the norm in humanity and every society, so why would it not be here?
“I hope you have finished your report then?” I pause hinting at the hyenas “This revelation of the natives is rather large and should be reported immediately…”
Donathon interrupts me, raising his hand still with his calm attitude “Don't worry, friedrich, remember I'm the most responsible one out here” i scoffed at that little joke
“Yes, I did it and was on the telephone to the base at the sea. They will send a messenger on a boat, should arrive in England in a few days.” he finishes.
I sigh a relief, looking at the native aliens before us, seeing there immense size and likeness to the hyenas in Africa “good, at least where one step closer to figuring out where we are”

The world collide, as one from a powerful empire and a race known as the humans, appear in this strange mysterious land just 2 weeks ago from now, the many many many races, being likewise to the animals of earth, instead boast intelligence like humans and societies like us, but they couldn't be anymore different, anymore unique in how they think, act, process, and do things like us.
How will the empire act? Why are the hyenas so big and strong like monsters, unlike our world's hyenas? That is to be discovered next time.
(in all serious note, i plan to do the next chapter on the hyenas perspective getting a proper backstory on them, I'm just doing this out of boredom, but I hope you all enjoyed this one.)

Recently I’ve been feeling quite low about how my life is going.
I’m in my mid 20’s (27M) and I’ve done okay. I’m a simulation engineer and work for a good company. I can wfh whenever I want. Can live wherever I want. I’m paid a little above average for my age but not loads. So I’m doing okay.
But. I’m lonely. I don’t feel I really have a tribe anymore. The friends around me are really heavily into drinking and do drugs on the weekends. The girls I’m meeting for dates are the same. It’s always raining here in the uk and honestly I spend a lot of time alone.
I’m starting to think I’d like to go abroad. Or move city in the uk. I don’t like the culture im around and I’d like to find driven people like me who want to go train in the gym, smash a career, make good money, improve.
I’d also absolutely love to find a girl who wants to do that with me. But I’m finding it nearly impossible to find a friend who wants that let alone a girl.
I find the people im around are really limiting my mindset as I catch myself telling myself this is just it. This is just the way my life is now. But I don’t want it to be
Any advice on how to change this and find what I’m looking for? Coz I don’t know how to anymore.

It was also the first time I was meeting any of his friends so it was kind of overwhelming since there was like 15 people there
He asked me just during the week to discuss histories and he asked me about my ex and why it didn’t work out considering the party was in a few days I thought he would have mentioned this. I didn’t ask him too much about his ex because he said it was ages ago!
How would you react to that scenario? What would you do?

TL;DR BLINDSIDED BY BOYFRIENDS EX

Time moved fast! Before we know it the semester will be over! However i have a major problem! I go to UMD but then go back to my parents in Florida in the summer who live around a retirement community. (Florida is overrated its filled with old people! Don't see anyone under 50 years old! (IDK why my folks had to live near a literal retirement community!)
My therapist suggest i stay around campus during the summer, rent a place, take a class or two or maybe find a job on or near campus. Problem is I noticed this place becomes a ghost town in the summer and is filled with old people as well! (in the suburbs).
Any summer classes I can take (that are not too rigorous). Where I can frankly meet some acquaintances (not even friends). But just people to chat with during class who are not as old as my grandparents but 20-somethings like me lol?
Any art classes or something?
I apologize for being ageist, however sometimes the senior citizens I know back in Florida can be out of touch/tell the same lame stories OVER and OVER and OVER again! They are nice people however them being DECADES older than me is hard to relate! (A kindergardener would have trouble relating to me etc)
This issue has gotten so bad I fall into BAD depression in the summer back in Florida that I need to do something about it.

I’m a 27M who works at a large company. I’m kinda in a predicament.
Recently went out and did some networking and found an opportunity that would be a promotion at my company doing what is absolutely my work passion at the moment. If possible, my pay would nearly double what it is now due to some technicalities of the move. Now this opportunity would not allow me to manage a team for awhile (1-2 years) which I really, really want to do. For me managing is something I’ve always wanted to do. Helping people reach their goals and coaching would be really fulfilling.
I let my manager know that I was interested in learning more (before knowing the specifics of the job) and he told his boss who then told his boss. Well turns out I’m one of the top performers in my org for my level and they want to keep me. I was already on the path to promotion here and it would probably happen this year. Now, they’re basically giving me everything I want which includes a team and some high value projects, however, my work passion is low value for this org so it wouldn’t be my main focus but I’d get to manage a team! Also the promotion wouldn’t net as much income as moving would.
So I’m at a crossroads and could use some help.
Stay:
Promotion
Manage a team
Become a large contributor potentially rolling me into an easier promotion down the line
Retain some of my work passion but it’d someone on my teams responsibility
Lower net pay
Go:
Get to focus on my work passion
Pay is doubled
Don’t get to manage a team
Learn a whole new business
Make a name for myself again
Any advice on ways to think through this would be really helpful.

Was just reminded the other day of the time I ended up overdoing it and nearly had a breakdown. Stranger helped me center myself, and - despite how weird I might've sounded at the time - even agreed to sit in my lap and hold hands until I managed to no longer go through it. Then they just left with a parting hug never to be seen again. I'm a very touchy person in situations like this so that person probably helped keep me from calling the ambulance on myself or getting kicked out or even having the law involved.
We need more people like this.
ITT: Positive experiences

First of all thank you to everyone in this subreddit, I have learned so much by reading these posts! I have a question regarding Le Train Bleu. I am staying near the Musee Cluny at the end of June, and for my first night I was planning on eating either at Le Procope (oldest restaurant in France and in walking distance of where I'm staying), or Le Train Bleu, (20 minute bus ride.) I will most likely have the opportunity to eat at Le Procope later that week though, and I'm super excited about the menu. Le Train Bleu looks AMAZING, but the menu is quite pricey and i'm not as excited about the offerings. Any input on where I should make a reservation would be awesome! (It's going to be a Saturday night so i'm putting in my reservation this week!) Merci beaucoup!!!

I’m a first year teacher (7th SS). Yesterday the high school down the road from us was locked down because of a shooting threat. It was a hoax but I’ve been on edge since.
My classroom management and ability to stay cool under pressure are lacking. I have two class periods where minor emergencies have happened earlier in the year and students did not react to me telling them things like “don’t go near the broken glass” or “take your books off the broken table.” There are groups of upwards of ten students roaming the halls in packs and I have students constantly hanging out in the doorway to join them. Some even open my classroom door to let random students in. Students are constantly yelling which makes any announcement completely inaudible. Two of my 5 classes and my homeroom are both majority ELL which makes quick communication difficult even when everyone is behaving properly. I’ve given detentions and referrals, I’ve offered incentives, I’ve contacted home, I’ve done conferences and circles, I’ve tried being the mean teacher and the nice teacher and every degree in between but everything I’m told should work hasn’t.
If a shooting happened at my school, I feel like my classroom, my students, and I would be easy targets and I don’t know what I could do differently.

This is a follow up diary from last year.
Some updates since last year: A merger at the toxic company was announced literally days after my diary and I was asked to stay. I gave it a shot since I was still looking for another job and it became much less toxic. M's manager was fired almost immediately, along with a slew of other people who didn't fit into the modern (or any) workplace. My manager resigned after I dropped the rope of doing his work and people started to ask him questions. I was also able to get a $20K raise and there is a potential for even more this year. There are still some processes that are being created / rebuilt and that shows in this diary but it's getting better every day. I maxed out my Roth IRA for 2022 and I'm on track to do it again this year. I'm out of the near-permanent credit card debt cycle. I found a great therapist. I left the country for the first time in my life. I built up my savings and started saving for a house (maybe).

Section Four: Money Diary

Day 1
5:30 am - Alarm goes off. I make coffee from a local roaster and put on the LPN Deep Dives: ACOTAR podcast. I queue up a 20 min Peloton yoga class and follow it up with a 5 min morning meditation. I prep our stuff for a short hike and play Stardew Valley until it’s time to go to the DMV.
8:45 am - I’m first in line at the DMV to renew my license and I’m out in 15 minutes - bonus points for hamming it up and getting the woman behind the counter to laugh. ($28.81)
9:30 am - I make A. her morning cup of tea (yerba mate), turn on the latest spring Chillhop playlist, prep two bowls of chocolate chip cookie protein overnight oats, and feed F., our cat.
10:45 am - Out the door and on the road. Once we’re at the nature reserve, we take a beautiful trail that leads down to a river and up to a bluff overlook. While it’s still early spring, some wildflowers are blooming. It's free since my in-laws gifted us a membership at Christmas.
2:00 pm - After 5 miles, we call it for the day and head back home to a local deli. We order two of our favorite Italian sandwiches, a small latte for me, and a large tea for A.. We eat at home while we watch a free movie. ($43.62, includes a 30% tip)
6:30 pm - We start making gyros with homemade tzatziki for dinner. A. is on meats and pita, I’m on topping and sauces duty. We still cook together almost every night and it makes me so happy.
7:30 pm - We eat while watching the sequel to the first movie. We pause half-way through for a bit of the ice cream cake A. gave me for my sobriety birthday. It’s from a local shop and made with vanilla chocolate-covered pretzel ice cream and salted peanut butter brownies. It’s going to take us a week to finish but I adore it.
9:30 pm - Time for bed. A. and I cuddle with F. until I doze off.

8:30 am - I snuggle with A. until she wakes up. I make her tea (Moroccan mint with a local lemon-infused honey) and put on another playlist while she feeds F.. We spend an hour snuggling on the couch ‘waking up’.
10:30 am - We get to the park where we check in for a coffee crawl that spans the downtown area of our little community. It’s a cold morning so between stops we hang out at a bookstore that’s warm and play with shop cats. We end up checking-in to all but two locations: a brewery and a location serving cold brew. The tickets were A.’s treat.
1:30 pm - A. gets a text from our friend B. asking for help with a crashing hard drive. A. drops me off at home and heads over to his apartment to rescue what she can. I pick away at some weekend chores and wrap up some freelance work I recently took on.
5:30 pm - A. returns home unsuccessful. We turn on an episode of The Dollop podcast while making Okonomiyaki. We share the shredding but A. takes on the frying and I’m on topping duty. We fire up an episode of a show we’re watching while we eat.
8:00 pm - I check my inbox and see that the edits I sent to my freelance client are approved. I invoice her for $660. I opened an email about summer pottery class openings. I’ve been trying to get into this specific 7-session class for two years and I immediately book. My heart sinks immediately but I’m calling this my birthday present and it’s covered by my Rainy Day / Treats sinking fund. ($187.00)
9:30 pm - After A. logs off of the latest video game she’s playing with friends, we catch up and get ready for bed. She rubs my back until I fall asleep.

7:00 am - Clock in, settle in, and write my tasks for the day. My direct report, H., messages me saying she needs a PTO day so I cancel our check-in meeting and shoot a note to HR. Today is meeting heavy with weekly meetings for both domestic and international product development and my 1:1 with the new CEO.
12:00 pm - Reheat Italian Wedding Risotto leftovers and write some of this Diary at my desk. Lunch gets interrupted by our warranty lead wanting to review some items on the corporate website.
4:30 pm - Time to call it a day. I stop at a gas station on my way home. ($32.47)

I’m excited but I see red flags galore over the CEO’s top pick - I’m going to completely restructure my planned questions for the interviews and double down on the collaboration and leadership aspects of the position.
12:00 pm - One interview down, one more to go! Reheat some Goong Pad Nam Prik Pao leftovers and chill out at my desk. I call it short to prepare for the second interview.
3:30 pm - The candidate with red flags only raised more red flags. Shocker. I check in with HR to make 100% sure my recommendation and notes read as unbiased and send it off for the CEO to review. Check in with H. on her projects. She and I have been crushing it since my previous manager (my manager in my previous MD) left. I round out the day by crossing off all but one of the projects from my list.
5:00 pm - Run home to A. so we can kiss before she has to head to an orientation / happy hour for her new job and I skedaddle to a heavily discounted yoga class I impulse-booked weeks ago.
7:00 pm - That was the most intense Slow Flow I’ve ever participated in. I almost domino-ed a row of people but thankfully I had a wall spot and could stabilize myself. I whip up a quick dinner of Gochujang-Sesame Noodles for us. I cry and sweat through my helping while catching up on shows I’m not allowed to watch when A. is home.
9:00 pm - I fall asleep on the couch with F. and get woken up by A. coming home. I migrate to the bedroom and A. rubs my back until I fall asleep.

6:00 am - I added weight and reps to every movement this session so that feels amazing but I need to get better at my note taking. March is always a weird, stressful month for me and that was one of the habits that definitely fell off.
7:00 am - Clock in, settle in, and start putting out today’s fires. I won’t be able to get everything done today but I’m going to be able to meet everyone’s needs. And that’s all I can do. I check in with the CEO and schedule a follow up interview for the first candidate!
11:30 am - More reheated One-Pan Miso Butter Chicken & Cabbage leftovers at my desk. I take the full hour to zone out on YouTube. There are probably better ways to use this hour but my brain hurts.
4:00 pm - I have one more fire to put out before I can go home.
5:00 pm - A. joins me on my post-work half mile walk and we catch up with each other. Once we’re back inside, we put on a record and start making Gumbo. I whip up a batch of Fufu to serve on the side, untraditional but it’s a perfect side-carb.
7:30 pm - A. and I repeat our nightly routine of half-cuddling, half-eating on the couch while we watch our show.
9:30 pm - Time for bed. A. and I cuddle until I’m asleep.

6:50 am - My entire commute faces the sun post daylight savings time and, since I can only wear glasses, it’s awful. Prescription sunglasses have been on my “want it but can’t have it” list for as long as I can remember. I can afford prescription sunglasses now. I make a mental note for my therapist and once I’m in the office parking lot, I grab the pair that’s been sitting in my excel sheet for at least two years and finally add to cart. ($48.42)
7:30 am - After getting emails squared away, I grab a bagel and break room coffee with one of my favorite coworkers who is retiring this month. He and I usually are the only people in the building at this hour and I’ll miss my AM buddy. We chat about life before everyone else gets in for the day and I have to spend an entire day on some tedious image editing.
12:00 pm - Gumbo leftovers at my desk and I once again take the full hour. This is decadence.
1:00 pm - Check in with H.- it’s a nice relief from Photoshop. She’s having some issues with a project and we share a screen for an hour while I teach her some tools that could help cut down on time and frustration.
5:00 pm - A. joins me on my post-work half mile walk again. We chat about her new job and this Money Diary. Once we get back in the house, we putz around on our phones until we make Asian-Style Ground Beef Cabbage Wraps for dinner.
7:30 pm - Same night routine until I head to bed.

12:00 pm - More gumbo leftovers at my desk. I text A. a reminder to start the Crockpot for dinner. We’re going to have another day this week where we’re passing ships so she handles dinner while she works virtually. More fires until the end of the day but it's manageable.
5:00 pm - I catch A. before she has to head to her TA side hustle. I skip the post-work walk and finish cooking the Slow-Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala Meatballs. I eat dinner while watching another show A. doesn’t like and cuddling with F..
7:00 pm - I throw my plants in the bathtub for watering and queue up a 20 min Peloton yoga class before another episode. I grab a slice of ice cream cake and drift off waiting for A. to come home.

I feel much calmer in this diary. So much has changed in a year. I'm still getting used to not constantly being worried about money / letting myself have treats within my budget without feeling bad or like I didn't work as hard for them. It's a work in progress.
Note: Since A. and I meal plan every two weeks, we didn't buy any groceries this week - but we each spend $250 - $300 on groceries per month with 1-2 meals eaten out.

I have a nearly 3 year old mini bichon frise who I bought off a couple who were selling him due to moving. I have had him approx 2 months. I had him neutered straightaway and most of the time he is sweet and loving. However occasionally he becomes very aggressive. He has bitten a relative's dog on the ear, drawing blood.
On a couple of occasions he has bitten me and I think it was redirected aggression from seeing birds out the window. However occasionally he now randomly starts to curl his lip for no reason when he is sat with me. I have sent a message to previous owners asking if they had issue with biting/aggression but no reply. Most of the time he is sweet and playful, but I don't know how to deal with this incredibly vicious streak. When he bites he really means it.

Now I'm fine with the P2W nature of the game. But they've nerfed RP & SL gain so hard it's completely unbearable to try to climb a tree without a premium vehicle & premium nowadays. I'm not a great player but I'm not generally a terrible player either. But when I try to play this game I just get completely turned off, it's actually impossible to make any substantial progress on the trees. It takes multiple days to even weeks of playing just to get past the first rank of a nation like the UK or USA.
And I can't even afford the tanks that I have unlocked because of repair costs! I have about 3 million SL of tanks I still need to buy and crew, and it's very painstaking to even try to get enough to buy it because I have to start tryharding so I don't lose SL. I can't play normally or casually because of this. It just leads to me getting frustrated at the game when I can't perform well enough to gain or even to just not lose SL.
I have bought 2 premium tanks at near-top tier just so I could try to grind and actually play tanks that I like... And this is after already playing for a really long time and still only getting to rank 3 Germany + rank 2 in a minor nation... 2 to 3 years and 900 hours later I still only have half of rank 6 Russia and most of Rank 4 Germany (and I have a ton of tanks that I can't purchase)... and now progress is almost completely halted... it takes multiple weeks of constant playing just to get enough RP for a single tank. It's insane... apparently this wasn't nearly as much of an issue before I really started playing? But it feels like RP gain has been cut down by more than 1/2 since I started playing...
I tried grinding other trees on multiple occasions, but I just can't even get past the first 2 ranks (US & UK), it's just far too much of a time investment, and even worse it's with tanks that I'm just completely uninterested in at first... I can't imagine what it's like for someone who just started the game. The only areas I've had luck in are the air trees, and even then I only got so far because of the really good low-tier premium planes I already had unlocked.
I feel like the most common response to this would be "you're just bad, I was able to grind the entire French tree in 3 days"... but honest question: are you only supposed to be able to enjoy the game if you're good? Are you just not allowed to progress if you're not "good enough"? Should I be locked out of playing the tanks I like because I didn't have enough "skill" to play them and not get 2+ kills in?
It completely kills my motivation to play the game... I like it but it's just impractical to progress without either shelling out your paycheck or no-lifing and making a massive time investment... I have college and work, I can't spend 4 hours a day doing only War Thunder, that leaves no room for obligations/self care or other hobbies... and honestly recently it's gotten to the point I can't even get a net positive in SL despite getting multiple kills each game, especially since the little I can gain all goes away with 1 or 2 bad games... and when I play with friends, since I'm more concentrated on the conversation than doing well, I just accept that I'm going to lose all of the SL I grinded for earlier.
I honestly keep trying to quit the game but it's partially sunk-cost fallacy and partially the fact that I'm addicted to it like it's heroin, and I like the subject so much... there's just no alternatives quite like it... and it's one of the only things I actually have the impulse to do when I'm bored/understimulated... it feels so predatory.

I’m 28(F) and have been best friends with this girl since we were six years old. We met at school and I’ve known her and her family for most of my life. I just smiled and said “thanks”, but I felt so awkward. Like, why the hell did he say it like that? What’s the need to? Why not just say it casually when we’re all in a group or something? He has known me basically all my life so it just felt weird that he’d say that. Maybe I’m reading into it. Maybe he was just being nice. I’m not sure. All I know is that I felt so awkward and uncomfortable. And for the rest of the day, I tried to avoid him because I always just feel so tense and anxious whenever I have to be near him or talk to him. He’s just a nice/regular person but I don’t know why I feel so uncomfortable with him in general.
I don’t really know if I’m looking for any advice in particular here - I’m just venting I suppose. But if anyone has any response to this, or if you’ve maybe ever felt like this too, it would be good to hear from you.

Before meeting my long term partner (ex now), I shared a hotel room with a 29-30 year old guy when I was 17 years old. My mother convinced me to go to a mental hospital instead of a real hospital, later finding out it was so my father wouldn't face police charges and instead the symptoms would be written of as my mental health issues.
I met my ex husband one month after that hotel experience and we grew up together. After my divorce I had sex with 12 other guys (total) and got pregnant by one of them (had an abortion) and after the abortion I have been celibate for 2 years and planning to stay celibate until marriage.
I'm scared of trusting again and I don't think I will. I was completely destroyed by the abortion. I'm still grieving my baby. It was a late term abortion. I'll never forget how the father said to me that he hopes I'm not some psycho bitch who'll keep the baby and ask him for child support. He was shaming me into having the abortion just to escape fatherhood.
The abortion is what made me remember the hotel experience when I was 17 years old. He knew what he was doing. He knew I was scared of pregnancy and sex without a condom, yet he had sex with me without a condom while I was unconscious. He raped me and I could have been pregnant at 17 years old. I laughed it off because whenever I told people they'd laugh about the experience. I was however also surrounded by red pillers - and I was an anti-feminist for years so I ran with that narrative of "Are you sure it was rape or not just your victim mentality?"
I have grown up feeling like "If I keep experiencing bad things, maybe I'm the bad person" and I went from islam to "law of attraction" that both offer the conclusion "You asked for it" At least, as bad as islam is, it doesn't blame it on the child's aura to attract horrible incidents, but law of attraction does.
I now feel like the gender war is a lazy escape (or rather a protection) from genuinely vetting people on an individual basis. Because as much as I have experienced horrible men, my mother was horrible too. The matriarchy should be smashed too. And I have met equally great men. I know that none of the men who subjected me to these atrocities were masculine men. Masculinity is a safe harbour. And these men were wicked in their souls. And I say that as atheistically as possible. There was always a horrible energy around them from the get-go. And I have met just as many women with horrible energy.
I wish we could learn to vet people out instead of blaming entire genders or races or other demographics. I made a promise many years ago that I will never fall for the trap of saying "all men are shit" and I'm glad I still haven't fallen for it. And it's the amount of shitty women that keeps me balanced. How ironic.

Hello everyone. I am planning to go to München in like 2-3 weeks (right know I live in Ostbevern), I would be in München for 4-5 days. I was looking in the DB site and app about what is the better option to go. John
About two thousand years ago, there was a group in the Jewish holy land. This group called themselves ‘The Way’. They believed in the messiah, a new covenant, and that the kingdom of God was near. They considered the temple in Jerusalem to be corrupt. They performed an immersion ritual for the forgiveness of sins and communal meals. I’m talking of course about the Essenes.
This description also describes the views and practices of John the baptizer. Some scholars think that John was an Essene, but whether he was actually an Essene or not is not too relevant now. John is a major figure in several religions including Islam, Baha’i, Druze and above all Mandaeism, where he is seen as the most important prophet. Of course he also has a role in Christianity, and using several sources I will argue what kind of role that was.
Some scholars of Mandaeism think that Mandaeism traces back all the way to (some of) the disciples of John. Since this is still debated, we can’t really draw any conclusions from it. A major source for the historical John is Josephus. In book 18, chapter 5, paragraph 2 of Antiquities of the Jews he writes about John. This paragraph provides evidence that John was the leader of a large movement, that he was killed by Herod Antipas and that he was baptizing people. This is a great source because it was written by a historian, relatively soon after it happened, and it shows no signs of later interpolation. This source is relatively unbiased, since John had no religious relevance for Josephus himself so there was no incentive to change the story in any way.
Next we have several books from the New Testament. In John 1:35-51, we read that John the baptizer instructs disciples, including Andrew, to follow Jesus. Later in John 3:22-30 we find a story of Jesus and John baptizing together, though more people are baptized by Jesus. Thus Jesus and John are part of the same movement.
In Luke 7:24-30 (attributed to the Q source and thus considered to be a very early textual tradition), we read how Jesus speaks about John. He calls him more than a prophet and says that among those born of a woman no one is greater than John.
In Luke 3:10-14 we find some sayings of John. He calls the people to share their property and feed the poor. It also shows that John accepted tax collectors in his movement. In Luke 11:1 Jesus’ disciples ask him to teach them how to pray like John taught his disciples. Jesus then replies with the Lord’s prayer.
Now let’s turn to the baptism of Jesus. Mark 1:9-11 describes the baptism of Jesus by John without any objections. The author of Matthew copies this story (Matthew 3:13-17), but adds objections from John. In this version, John protests that he is not worthy of baptizing Jesus. In the version in the gospel of Luke (Luke 3:21-22), John is even more marginalized. He is not even mentioned as explicitly baptising Jesus. It says that Jesus had been baptized and that the Holy Spirit descended upon him when he was praying, not during the baptism by John. In the gospel of John, Jesus’ baptism is left out completely. The idea that John had baptized Jesus became so embarrassing that the later gospel authors marginalized John’s role in Jesus’ baptism.
In all gospels we find that John preaches that he baptizes with water, but that someone else will come who will baptize with the Holy Spirit. However, this is contradicted in Acts 19:1-7. There we read that Paul met people who were called disciples and believers. Pauls asked them if they received the Holy Spirit when they became believers, and they answer that they don’t know about the Holy Spirit. Thus the later baptism by the Holy Spirit was not a clear teaching of John, otherwise all of his followers would know about it. This passage is also further evidence for the popularity of John the baptizer. Paul meets his followers all the way in Ephesus, which is far removed from the area where John lived and preached.
We see that some followers of John later became followers of Jesus. John taught similar messages to what Jesus taught and they baptized people together. Jesus spoke very highly of John and was baptized by him. Later Christian authors downplay his role in the baptism of Jesus because of embarrassment. The most reasonable conclusion from this is that Jesus was a disciple of John. Later they were leading the movement together. When John died, some of his disciples followed Jesus, while others continued without Jesus.
Jesus
Like John, Jesus is also mentioned by Josephus. The passage is interpolated by later Christians, but we can still figure out what the original would have said. Additionally, we have an Arabic version without the interpolations. Here on page 16 they are side by side.
John the baptizer started an apocalyptic movement in the first century. When he died, Jesus was the clear leader of the main branch of this movement, although as I mentioned earlier there was at least one other branch by this time. While John was an ascetic or semi-ascetic, Jesus deviated from this (Matthew 11:18-19). But like John, Jesus teaches about giving to the poor. We find this throughout the gospels, for example in Mark 10:21-25, Matthew 5:3, Matthew 6:24, Luke 6:20-26, Luke 12:13-21, Luke 14:12-14, and so on. Voluntary poverty was a key part of the message of Jesus.
An important part of the discussion on Jesus is his views on the law. But before we can understand the views of Jesus, we need to look at the context. Many people today view the Pharisees as legalistic, and that is certainly how they are portrayed in the gospels. In the first century, there were two main schools of thought among the Pharisees. These are called the House of Hillel and the House of Shammai. The House of Shammai was popular among the zealots, and with the tensions between Jews and Romans they were very dominant in the time when the gospels were written. They are very strict and can easily be seen as legalistic.
On the other hand the House of Hillel is rather mild. When asked to explain the whole Torah while standing on one foot, Hillel said: “What is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow: this is the whole Torah; the rest is the explanation; go and learn.” Another maxim attributed to Hillel is: “My humiliation is my exaltation; my exaltation is my humiliation.” These are very similar to Jesus’ teachings in Matthew 7:12 and Matthew 23:12 respectively. These are just some out of many similarities between the views of Hillel and those of Jesus. What is important here is that this is a mild view of the law, but that’s very different from abolishing the law. Rabbinic Judaism today follows the House of Hillel.
With that in mind, we can look at what Jesus said about the law. Jesus is very explicit about keeping the law in Matthew 5:17-20 and Matthew 19:17. We see this in action in places like Mark 2:23-28 or Matthew 12:9-14. Here Jesus shows that he doesn’t abolish the Sabbath, but that it is less important than human wellbeing. In other words, it represents his mild views of the law. He also participates in Jewish holidays like Passover (Luke 22:7-13), Sukkot (John 7:10), and Hanukkah (John 10:22-23). Jesus also observed the Sabbath (Luke 4:16). Thus Jesus lived like the other Jews at his time, and his disciples did the same.
James
After Jesus died, his followers still went to the temple (Acts 2:46, 3:1). Several early sources show that James, the brother of Jesus, became the first leader of the church. Eusebius gives reports of early church fathers who said that James was the first bishop of Jerusalem. Eusebius quotes Clement of Alexandria in book 2, chapter 1, paragraph 3 and Hegesippus in book 2, chapter 23, paragraph 4 of his book Ecclesiastical history. Josephus also reports about him in Antiquities of the Jews book 20, chapter 9, paragraph 1. However, he doesn’t say much about him like he did with John and Jesus. Thus we need to look at other sources to find out more about James.
The Epistle of James is written by a Jewish Christian who viewed James as a high authority. He represents the views of the Jerusalem community. Note that if you hold to traditional authorship, this automatically follows. The epistle mentions Jesus only twice, which is the least amount of any New Testament book. The first time is right in the first sentence, where the author identifies himself as James the servant of both God and Jesus. The epistle has a strong focus on voluntary poverty, giving away to the poor and against being rich (James 1:9-11, 1:27, 2:5, 5:1-6). It also emphasizes keeping the whole law (James 2:8-13). Then it continues about how man is justified by works and not by faith alone and how faith without works is dead (James 2:14-26). It also shows some parallels with the teachings of Jesus in James 4:10 (Matthew 23:12 and the quote from Hillel earlier) and James 4:11-12 (Matthew 7:1).
Another epistle written by Jewish Christians is the Epistle of Jude. The author identifies himself as Jude, servant of Jesus and brother of James. Mentioning both of those names shows that both were seen as important figures in this community. Jude 4 talks about intruders who have perverted the grace of God. This is given as the reason for writing the letter (Jude 3). So who is the author talking about? In verse 8 we see that this group defiles their body, rejects authority and slanders angels. They are worldly people, devoid of the Spirit (Jude 19). The slander against angels can help us identify the group. In Hebrews 1, Colossians 2:18, and 1 Corinthians 6:3 we find statements that could be seen as slander against angels. Thus it is possible that the author of Jude means the Pauline Christians, though it’s not very clear from the text.
Another text from early Christianity is the Didache, written in the first or early second century. It describes how Christians should live. It contains teachings similar to the sermon on the mount and it refers to the Lord’s prayer. It is consistent with the earlier movement on baptism, giving to the poor and keeping the law. Chapters 11-13 describe how apostles and prophets should acts and how they should be received in the wider community. The apostles were mendicants, travelled from place to place and spoke in the Spirit. Jesus is described as the servant of God, but never as the Son of God.
Paul
The next person is Paul. In Galatians he reports that he first persecuted the church (Galatians 1:13) before his conversion. Only after 3 years did he go to Jerusalem to meet Peter. He stayed with him for 15 days and he also saw James. After 14 years he went to Jerusalem again.
Paul frequently mentions that some people preach a different gospel from the gospel he preaches (Galatians 1:6-9, 2:4-5, 2:12, 5:7-10, 1 Thessalonians 2:16, 1 Corinthians 1:10-17, Romans 16:17). Paul also frequently argues for his own authority as an apostle or against the authority of others (Galatians 1:10-12, 1:20, 2:6, 1 Corinthians 9, 2 Corinthians 10-12). This would not be necessary if everyone accepted his authority. Thus, if we combine the fact that he keeps arguing for his authority and the fact that he warns people for another gospel, it shows that there was another group that didn’t accept Pauls authority or theology. This group is the Jerusalem church led by James and churches following their message.
Contrary to the Epistle of James, Paul preaches justification by faith rather than works of the law (Galatians 2:16, Romans 3:28). He specifically tells people not to circumcise themselves (Galatians 5:2-3, 6:12-15, 1 Corinthians 7:18-19), and often says that people in Christ are no longer under the law. Thus, contrary to John, Jesus and James, Paul teaches against Torah observance. His religion is no longer a Jewish sect, but a religion for both Jew and Greek which replaces their previous religion.
1 Thessalonians 4:1-8 describes how people ought to live in order to please God. It doesn’t mention giving to the poor. Along with passages like 1 Corinthians 6:9-20, Paul mainly focuses on sexual immorality. In 2 Corinthians 8:1-9, Paul talks about the poor churches in Macedonia who gave away their belongings. This corresponds to the teachings of John, Jesus and James. However, this seems to be rather new to Paul, resulting in the confusing verse 9. He thinks that Jesus was rich, and that he became poor in order for his followers to be rich. Romans 15:26 describes the poor among the saints in Jerusalem, which is in agreement with our other sources about the Jerusalem church. Aside from this, Paul never talks about giving to the poor even though this was a central part of the movement.
Acts 15 describes the council of Jerusalem. Some people from Judea protested that uncircumcised men were allowed in the church, so Paul and Barnabas went to Jerusalem to settle the dispute. The fact that they went to Jerusalem tells us how important Jerusalem was, and that the people in Jerusalem had the highest authority among the early Christians. Paul also describes the council in Galatians 2, where he says that he went in response to a revelation. In Jerusalem he met the pillars of the church, which were James, Peter, and John.
Both Acts and Galatians report that some people wanted the gentiles to be circumcised, but that the final decision was that gentiles didn’t have to be circumcised. In Galatians Paul describes himself as the apostle to the gentiles, while in Acts Peter calls himself the apostle to the gentiles. In Galatians, the condition for this was that Paul and his followers would remember the poor. This is completely in line with what I’ve been arguing so far to be a core part of the movement. Note that the opponents of Paul ask for this, and that Paul agrees to it. Acts makes it clear that James is the one who ultimately makes the decision, showing that he was regarded as the leader of the church by the people who were present.
In Acts 21 Paul visits Jerusalem again. Acts 21:21 reports that there was a rumour that Paul taught the Jews not to observe the Torah. Instead of saying that he did indeed teach that to the Jewish Christians, Paul agreed to join a purification ritual. This shows that both parties knew that the earlier council in Jerusalem was only about gentile Torah observance, and that Torah observance among Jewish Christians was still required.
After Paul
Pauline Christianity grew way faster than Jewish Christianity. It required no voluntary poverty or circumcision from its adherents, had a wider target audience, and had a highly educated leader. Later Marcion came around and took the ideas of Paul a step further and completely rejected the Jewish origins of Christianity. In the second century the proto-orthodox Christians emerged. They were Pauline Christians who simultaneously rejected Jewish Christianity, Marcionism, and Gnosticism. At the end of the second century, Irenaeus was the first to use the term Ebionites for a group of Jewish Christians, which he declared as a heresy.
The term Ebionite comes from the word poor. They believed in the authority of John the baptizer, Jesus, and James, with Jesus being the highest authority among them. They believed Jesus was the messiah, but not the Son of God or that he was born through the virgin birth. They observed the Torah and lived in voluntary poverty. This shows the consistency in the movement starting with John, then continued by Jesus and later James and represented in early texts like the epistle of James or the Didache.
While the proto-orthodox Christians were dominant, the Jewish Christians remained an influential minority for centuries. In the late fourth century John Chrysostom argues against the Jewish Christians, telling them they can’t participate in Jewish holidays. Centuries later, we clearly see that Islam is influenced by Jewish Christians rather than Pauline Christians. Thus the Jewish Christians survived for a long time, but they eventually died out. The Epistle of James represents Jewish Christianity and made it into the canon, but it was disputed for a long time. It’s not very surprising that Martin Luther later had issues with it on theological grounds.
Summary
In the early first century, a new movement emerged. It was started by John the baptizer. One of his disciples was Jesus of Nazareth, who became a prominent person in the movement. When John died, Jesus took over most of the movement. Later Jesus died, and his brother James became the leader of the church soon thereafter.
This was a Jewish movement, who believed that the kingdom of God was near. They baptized people for the forgiveness of sins. They lived in voluntary poverty and gave away their possessions to the poor. They believed that Jesus was the messiah. They observed the Torah with an interpretation similar to that of Hillel.
Then Paul came around. He changed it from a Jewish sect to a universal religion. Rather than the message of Jesus, he preached a message about Jesus. This message still had some aspects of the original movement such as the Eucharist, but the core of the message was changed. Pauline Christianity marginalized John the Baptist and James the brother of Jesus and focused on Jesus alone. But even with Jesus, his teachings fell to the background and it only focused on the resurrection. Pauline Christians believed that Jesus was the Son of God, who pre-existed and incarnated and later died for our sins. The central belief of this new religion was that faith in the resurrection of Jesus was all that mattered for salvation. This is completely different from the teachings of John, Jesus, James, and the movement that they started.
