  1. I'm looking for a new psychiatrist, and haven't had much luck so far. My only requirements really are is that they're female, and that they can prescribe medication. Everyone I've contacted so far doesn't respond, can't prescribe medication, hasn't been helpful despite months of appointments, the list goes on.
  2. I'm very interested in some form of animal assisted therapy. Preferably horses, but I'm open to anything. Likewise, if anyone knows of any farms looking for volunteers or even hiring, I would definitely be interested!
  3. I'm looking for a new office that will do neurological testing. I've been diagnosed with 6 different things from 2 different doctors, and no one agrees 100% on a few of those things.
  4. Looking for someone who specializes in autoimmune diseases (specifically POTs), or someone who is able to test for it. I've found one specialist in the area and not close enough to me.

Pendant que Shedet traquait sa proie à travers Boubastis, le medjay Odion poursuit toujours son enquête. Un travail d’investigation, étranger à l’affaire de l’hôtel, l’avait sollicité au Cartouche depuis quelques jours. Commanditée par la princesse Néferousobek, le medjay se devait de savoir qui se servait allègrement dans sa fortune personnelle. Evidemment il réussit sa tâche en découvrant que nulle autre que son fils dérobait dans la trésorerie familiale afin d’évincer toute concurrence avec ses frères et soeurs mais pas totalement. Ce travail futile a bien faillit ne pas être résolu car Odion venait d’obtenir une autre information qu’il attendait avec beaucoup d’impatience. Dans le nome de l’Occident, en Basse-Égypte, des rumeurs font état d’un monstre rôdant et ayant provoqué un carnage inhabituel aux abords d’un canal isolé. Apparement un contrebandier Sittiu l’aurait découvert puis en a informé le nomarque cependant le fonctionnaire prit, comme à son habitude, l’information à la légère. Néanmoins il eut le bon sens d’en informer le vizir des nomes sans se douter qu’une visite désagréable est imminente. A bord de sa felouque Odion rejoint le nome de l’Occident ou plus vulgairement le nome de Blé. Ses pensées durant la méditation se tourne vers l’affaire de l’hôtel, presque deux mois auparavant, dans le but de se remémorer exactement les détails de son enquête. Un travail de mémoire important étant donné sa nature très secrète. La scène apparait dans son esprit, environ une heure après la découverte des corps dans l’hôtel Ouas par la garde royale, le grand Pharaon Ramsès II a demandé à voir le medjay en personne. Acte inhabituelle puisque toutes les missives se font par l’intermédiaire d’un faucon royal, les vizirs ou encore Nefertari l’actuelle grande épouse royal. Devant la barrière solaire menant à la zone royale du Cartouche, le medjay tremble, son coeur devient arythmique à chaque pas le rapprochant de son souverain. Pour la première fois il foule de ses pieds nus l’enceinte interdite: la cour royale. Un lieu paradisiaque au centre du royaume et sécurisé par une barrière solaire blanche tant la chaleur qui s’en dégage en est infernale. La source du Nil surgit directement de l’intérieur du palais royal tandis que certains dieux sont présent à se prélasser tel Sobek. Un immense crocodile anthropomorphe s’abreuvant de vin dans une vasque en or, tandis que la moitié de son corps est immergée, des oiseaux lui picorent sa peau métallique ardoise. Des servantes affublées d’un masque de crocodile l’éventent. Lorsque le Nil est sali l’information lui revient immédiatement tel un stimuli dans un système nerveux, dans ce cas il envoie l’un de ses enfants régler le problème. Jamais il n’eut de raison de se déplacer hors de la cour royale, cependant une rumeur prétend que si cela devait se produire le Nil en serait profondément modifié. Le medjay s’avance en traversant un large pont transparent alors que des jaguars et léopards flânent dans les environs. L’odeur sucré le détend cependant il ne sait pas si cela provient de l’eau ou des nombreuses plantes environnantes. De part et d’autre de la grande cour, en levant les yeux, le sommet de la montagne sculpté avec les têtes d’Osiris et Horus opposées l’une de l’autre prouvent l’altitude démesurée du lieu par rapport au reste du royaume. Le jardin de cette cour est cerné de canaux entourant les palmiers qui ombrage la zone. La faune locale est composée entre autres de divers félins. Un jaguar albinos scrute le medjay du haut d’un figuier millénaire et les oiseaux exotiques l’accueillent de leurs chants majestueux. En s’approchant de la cour royale il est possible d’entendre le Nil, un bruit doux et régulier et de la même manière que le reste de la zone une mélodie naturelle et harmonieuse se joue. Les oiseaux et notamment des colibris sont les seuls visiteurs capable d’entrer et sortir du Cartouche. Au pied de l’immense palais royal, son grand frère l’attendait près des marches d’or sertie de lapis-lazuli, d’émeraude que l’on sent à chaque foulée. L’homme est d’une tête plus grande que lui, l’allure toujours aussi sévère: Marek le medjay. Son crâne est orné d’un tatouage en gravure d’or décrivant le serment le liant au Pharaon et son royaume dont une partie déborde sur le cou et le haut du pectoral droit. Une boucle d’oreille en or en forme d’Ankh pend au dessus de son épaule protégée par une armure doré écaillée. L’armure le recouvre partiellement sur le côté gauche du torse, forme une diagonale pour finir sur un pagne en fine lamelle de fer blanc ressemblant aux ailes d’un majestueux faucon. Ses pieds sont nus car foulant en permanence ce sol sacré il ne souhaite pas le profaner. Ses muscles saillants sont bien à l’image de sa réputation et surtout son surnom de fils de Ammout. Debout bien droit, en tenant de ses deux mains son arme, une masse énorme en forme de graine hérissée de pointe comme les ronces d’un buisson. Pharaon Ramsès II. Soit humble, ne lève pas la tête et ne répond que lorsque sa majesté te l’ordonne. Le protocole est bien plus important en sa présence. Sache que si tu y faillis je te couperai la tête, notre famille ne doit aucun cas avoir la réputation ternit. Sans un mot Odion gravit les marches d’escaliers du palais rouge. « Par tous les dieux je vais enfin le rencontrer, je vous en remercie infiniment ». L’intérieur est progressivement sombre, le sol luit au contact du soleil pénétrant par des fentes sur les murs tandis que les alentours sont emplis de ténèbres. Cette vaste salle aux cents piliers, sans décoration ni meuble n’est que l’antichambre de la salle du trône. Odion accède aux marches couvert de hiéroglyphes puis atteint enfin la haute cour royale. Comme la salle précédente celle-ci est sombre mais à moitié. La forme de la pièce est faite de deux demi-cercle se faisant face illuminé vers le côté invité et l’autre, côté trône, presque plongé dans le noir. Le centre est séparé par le Nil, sa source, là où elle est la plus pure du royaume. L’eau jaillit en un point puis ruisselle des deux côtés pour rejoindre des canaux et s’élargir davantage au fur et à mesure de sa course dans le Cartouche. Difficile de croire que l’immense fleuve sacré débute par une entrée aussi petite. A l’opposé, au moins trente mètres, la zone la plus importante de tout le royaume, la haute cour de Pharaon. Seules les fonctionnaires les plus hauts gradés sont autorisés à la fouler. Nommé par le souverain en personne, ils ont le droit, voire le privilège, de se placer à ses côtés, de lui parler, ou encore de le regarder. Plongé dans l’obscurité absolue, le trône est surélevé par des marches en or mais impossible pour Odion de le voir, aucun son ne s’en dégage. Au bas des marches d’or lumineuse quelques personnes se dévoilent. A la droite du souverain le porte éventail, Mériamon, un adolescent torse nu au pagne blanc et à la mèche de cheveux pendante sur la droite. De ses deux mains il évente son père avec un éventail de plume blanche d’oiseau mythique trois fois supérieur sa corpulence. Un peu plus loin le porte sandale, Sethemouia, fils âgé d’une trentaine d’année délivrant au Vizir le papyrus holographique contenant les prochains ordres du medjay. Le Vizir Rahotep, ou premier ministre du royaume, fonctionnaire suprême avant Pharaon et qui, paradoxalement, n’est pas issu de son sang comme le désire la tradition. Lors de grande réunion le cercle privé de Pharaon est davantage fourni avec le général des armées ou encore le grand prêtre d’Amon-Rê. Ici la réunion se restreint avec la grande épouse royal Nefertari. Odion n’émet aucun jugement car trop assailli par la joie de pouvoir être enfin en présence de son souverain. Il se contient de trembler davantage et, s’avançant au centre de son demicercle, il s’agenouille puis se prosterne les mains bien à plat et le plus en avant possible.
— Ô Pharaon, maître des trois terres, souverain suprême du peuple et dieu parmi les hommes, je me présente devant toi. Des bruits de pas suivent ses paroles, puis celle d’une autre personne l’accompagne, des platesformes dorées surgissent de l’eau créant une allée entre lui et la haute cour.
— Medjay Odion agenouille-toi, ordonne une voix de femme. Il s’exécute puis aperçoit la reine Nefertari lui faisant face ainsi que le grand Vizir à ses côtés. La reine est d’une incroyable beauté, le visage à la peau clair, les yeux au regard doux, ses cheveux de couleur jais descendent jusqu’à ces chevilles surmontés d’une coiffe en or en forme d’oiseau dont ses ailes descendent jusqu’à ses épaules tels de fins fils dorés. Sur cet oiseau de longues et hautes plumes aux écailles dorés et sertie de lapis-lazuli servent de couronne. Sa robe blanche la couvre intégralement de bijou en tout genre comme une poupée. De sa voix douce elle déclare:
— Medjay Odion, notre souverain le grand Pharaon Ramsès II te sollicite pour une a ffaire de la plus haute importance. Un meurtre a été commis il y a peu dans l’hôtel Ouas, étant en HauteÉgypte l’homicide est sous ta juridiction. Pharaon t’ordonne de t’y rendre sous peu et faire la lumière sur les évènements. Tu devras retrouver le ou les coupables, les capturer ou les tuer si la situation l’exige. Ton grand frère, le medjay Marek, ainsi que le Vizir m’ont fait part de ton efficacité. Il est temps de nous le prouver car l’échec n’est pas envisageable. As-tu des questions medjay?
— Avec votre permission, puis-je avoir plus d’informations ainsi que mes prérogatives? — L’affaire que Pharaon te confie est plus importante que tout ce qui te sera attribué, tu dois seulement savoir qu’un homicide contre un Égyptien a eu lieu. Le reste des informations c’est à toi de les découvrir selon Pharaon. En revanche sache que le niveau de secret dépasse largement tout ce que tu as pu connaître. La moindre information est vitale pour le royaume, tu te dois de les cacher à n’importe quel prix. As-tu compris les instructions de Pharaon? Le medjay répond d’un geste de la tête, très heureux d’être en présence de son dieu vivant même si il ne peut l’apercevoir ni même l’entendre. Le bruit du Nil et de l’éventail balayant l’air comblent les silences entre les paroles de la douce Nefertari. Le Vizir Rahotep ajoute: — La scène de crime est intacte, personne n’y a pénétré depuis l’ouverture des cloisons de
sécurité. Si tu échoues ou laisse le moindre secret t’échapper tu te dois de les emporter dans la tombe, ajoute le Vizir. Pharaon exige de toi toute ton implication dans cette affaire.
— Très bien à vos ordres. La reine se tourna à moitié vers son Pharaon comme si il lui communiquait un ordre cependant Odion n’entend rien à part l’écoulement constant du Nil.
— Une dernière chose, reprend Nefertari, tu as carte blanche cependant tu n’as pas le droit de blesser un membre de la famille royale sauf si tu as les preuves nécessaire de sa culpabilité. Dans le cas contraire tu seras sévèrement châtié. Attendant impatiemment de parler ou seulement entendre son souverain, Odion en reste tout de même déçut lorsque les deux personnes rejoignent à nouveaux les ténèbres de la haute cour.
— Que les dieux te protègent et accompagnent chacun de tes pas, déclare Nefertari. Sans tourner le dos il sort prêt à obéir aux ordres. En moins de vingt minutes Odion rejoignit la scène du crime à l’hôtel. Le medjay se questionne au sujet de cette affaire et notamment sur un point, pourquoi le solliciter au lieu de son frère? Ne voulant point remettre en question les décisions de son souverain, Odion se concentre afin de tirer partie de cette opportunité. Sa felouque resta en haute altitude dès son arrivé à Memphis pour se placer à l’étage de la chambre où la tuerie s’est produite. Dès que l’embarcation fut à la bonne hauteur le medjay s’engouffre en sautant à l’intérieur de la scène de crime. Les lieux sont calmes pas de brouhaha, Odion sera tranquille. Cela fait maintenant une heure et demie que le crime a été signalé. Comme prévu rien n’a été déplacé ou touché par la garde royale Égyptienne. Le corps d’un homme git la tête contre la table, Odion ressent immédiatement l’ancienne présence à l’opposé du cadavre. « Là n’est pas l’oeuvre de la garde royale, pense Odion, quelqu’un était présent après le crime et avant l’arrivé des forces de l’ordre. Je le vois et sent clairement, de plus il est partit il y a une heure et quarante minutes environ. Non…un peu moins ». Il se rapproche du sofa et déploie de sa ceinture un scarabée doré volant près du sang en partie nettoyé, l’insecte apprivoisé dévore les tâches puis, après quelques secondes d’agonie, sa couleur change pour virer au rouge. « Un étranger! Grecque ou Romain. Que faisais-t-il ici! Très intéressant, je comprends maintenant pourquoi le corps a disparut. Non, cela me semble plus complexe ». Son regard se porte sur le cadavre Égyptien, il attrape ses cheveux et surélève sa tête comme un sac. Son visage est méconnaissable mais cela ne trouble aucunement le medjay récupérant son sang grâce à une tige de roseau et l’insérant dans un tube. « Mort instantanée et je dirai par une arme Égyptienne, non je les connais toutes et aucune n’implose de cette manière. Au niveau des armes grecques aucune ne me vient à l’esprit. En revanche l’arme romaine: le Mars ou bien la Foudre, sont les candidates idéales. Des armes provoquant une déflagration très meurtrière à bout portant mais aussi très facilement transportable. L’explosif a été lancé dans sa bouche en un instant avant de libérer son énergie destructrice. Pour effectuer un tel geste il faut un entrainement spécial, un garde de Haute-Égypte n’y arriverai pas ». En quelques secondes un hologramme se dévoile du tube laissant apparaitre l’identité de la victime. « Inconnu, tout est inconnu dans le système. Néanmoins la base de donnée d’Osiris confirme que son sang est similaire au trésorier de Memphis. C’est son fils. Que fait-il ici? Je croyais qu’il inventait et améliorait la technologie du royaume en Basse-Égypte. Aurait-il trahi le royaume? Je comprends mieux les raisons du secret liant cette affaire. Pharaon je ne te décevrais pas ». La table garnie de nourriture sec, infestée d’abeilles et de mouches, interpelle le medjay. Les plats sont entamés, des assiettes sont manquantes d’après les traces de sucre sur la table et les mains du cadavre. Toutefois son intuition lui fait savoir qu’aucune des deux victimes n’a apprécié les mets. « La poudre a empreinte ne révèle rien, quelqu’un d’autre est sans doute passé ici. Il portait des gants mais pas n’importe lesquelles, des gants pour le nettoyage. En plus je ne vois aucune trace de nourriture sur la main de la victime seulement des résidus, sa mort s’est faite juste avant qu’il n’empoigne un plat mais pourquoi? Aucune miette près du sofa opposé seulement du sang donc ce ne doit pas être la nourriture qui tua l’autre personne par empoisonnement sinon il y aurait des traces partielles de vomit. Je pense que l’autre corps disparu a été tué par une arme tranchante au vu des minuscules projections de sang que j’ai découvert ». En se relevant Odion remarque un détail étrange qui ne lui sautait pas aux yeux. « Supposons que la victime absente fut bien un romain, ce dont je doute fortement cependant les chances sur cette hypothèse restent élevés. Pourquoi avoir commandé que des mets que ce peuple haït? Khonsou nous a parlé de leur coutume culinaire et aucun d’eux, en théorie, n’en mangerai lors d’un simple repas. Donc, quelqu’un d’autre était bien venu, un Égyptien? D’après le peu de trace de pas l’hypothèse s’étaye, il a sans doute mangé ces plats par devoir ou simplement insouciance. Si c’est la même personne qui a nettoyé le sang du romain alors il a emporté les assiettes pour ne laisser aucune trace. Sinon cet autre Égyptien est mort durant cette altercation, son corps a dû être emporté ». Odion inspecte désormais la fenêtre brisée, les éclats et la forme de la fracture lui dévoile une fuite précipitée. Avec une loupe et une poudre il recherche la moindre goutte de sang mais rien n’est visible, pas même une empreinte. Il se penche et cherche à l’extérieur, avec une sorte de longue vue, l’objet ayant servit à détruire la vitre. « Soit l’objet a été ramassé soit le coupable a utilisé une de ses armes. Sinon le cadavre de l’Égyptien avait tiré et manqué sa cible. Bon, ce problème n’est pas important ce qui l’est davantage est le nombre de fuyard, un? Deux? Trois? Si ils étaient plus nous l’aurions découvert bien plus vite donc je pense qu’ils étaient au maximum deux. Oui, voilà l’hypothèse la plus probable, durant la scène précédant le meurtre, environ quatre personnes se tenaient cachés à l’abri du regard d’Horus dans cette chambre d’hôtel. Mais alors qui est venu ensuite? Un complice de l’Égyptien? Ou du romain? ». Des traces de pas ne sont visibles que près de la fenêtre cependant la taille des empreintes sont identiques, difficile pour Odion de dire si ce sont réellement celles d’une ou deux personnes, en tout cas l’individu est celui-là même s’étant échappé. Le medjay observe de son regard perçant chaque recoin de la chambre d’hôtel mais ce n’est pas de l’oeil qu’il découvre quelque chose plutôt avec son nez. « Une odeur de crémation et de produit ménager flottent dans l’air, c’est faible mais perceptible lorsqu’on la connait. Alors le cadavre du soi-disant romain a été détruit, mais par qui? L’un de ses complices? L’intrus me précédant? ». En s’approchant de la cuisine et notamment le frigo, l’odeur âcre des produits ménagers s’intensifie. « Si je ne me trompe pas il existe un sortie de secours dans cette chambre, elle fait partie de la suite royale. La sortie a dû être utilisé par un membre de la famille royale seule cette éventualité m’apparait néanmoins il me sera impossible de le vérifier. La porte est condamnée comme tout système de secours. Je pourrais rejoindre le labyrinthe sous la HauteÉgypte mais les recherches seraient interminables. Cela me navre mais je dois rechercher toute personne de la famille royale ayant eu quelque contact avec le cadavre Égyptien. Pourquoi avoir choisit un hôtel et en pleine journée? L’Égyptien souhaitait sans doute se soustraire du regard du dieu Horus. Pourquoi vouloir une issue de secours? Trahir ses invités? Ou alors il s’apprêtait à partir avec eux mais quelque chose a rompu la confiance entre les deux parties ». La scène de crime s’anime au fil des hypothèses et de l’accumulation de preuve, Odion n’en est pas à sa première fois malheureusement. Son titre de medjay lui a permis de chercher les coupables lors des meurtres entre membre de la famille royale et de quelques nobles puissant ainsi que des fonctionnaires haut gradés dans tous le royaume. Pourtant cette scène de crime lui parait différente, un présage catastrophique s’étant déroulé en pleine journée et dont les répercussions, selon lui, auront des conséquences visibles sur le long terme. Un rare pressentiment très pessimiste le submerge. « Quelqu’un aurait donc fait disparaitre le corps du romain mais pour quelles raisons? Si c’est un complice était-il avec l’Égyptien ou l’étranger? Cela avait-il pour but de cacher des preuves? Si ce n’est pas le cas alors l’intrus n’a aucun lien avec cette histoire. Il va falloir que j’inspecte les témoignages et les archives du dieu Thot sur les entrées et sortie de Memphis ». Lorsqu’une affaire coince, Odion effectue toujours le même rituel. Il sort de la scène de crime, médite une minute complète en oubliant ses hypothèses puis rentre à nouveau dans la scène afin d’en avoir un regard neuf. Dès le moment où son pied franchit à nouveau le seuil de la porte la scène s’anime: une transaction ayant mal tourné, un ou deux complices s’enfuyant par la fenêtre et au moins un intrus présent une heure plus tôt. « Voila l’histoire. Pourtant ce que je ne comprends pas c’est l’implication de notre grand Pharaon, pourquoi vouloir résoudre ce mystère avec une telle hâte? Sans aucun doute la présence de l’étrange. La population paniquerait mais alors quel est mon rôle dans cette mission? Tant pis je ne remets pas en cause les ordres du grand Ramsès, d’abord je dois savoir en priorité où et comment sont partit les complices ainsi que l’objet de la transaction. Je pense que là et la clé de cette histoire ». Avant de partir Odion mémorise toute la pièce, le moindre recoin, le moindre objet même mineure puis il place une charge solaire au centre de la chambre. Cet explosif incendiaire carbonise en quelques secondes toute la zone. Odion est la dernière personne à connaître l’existence de cette scène de crime. En prenant l’ascenseur les pensées d’Odion sont focalisés sur l’étranger ainsi que les différents éléments qu’il joint ensemble. « Un grecque semble peu probable notamment depuis que nous en savons plus sur eux. Supposons que ces étrangers soient des romains, la manière dont ils ont pu se fondre dans notre royaume ne signifie qu’une chose, j’ai affaire à un ou deux speculatores. Inutile de les traquer sinon je les aurai déjà retrouvés. Cela veut aussi dire que l’Égyptien mort sur la table les a camouflé et est donc bien le fils du trésorier. Cet inventeur de génie a sûrement le contre-système de surveillance du royaume, en revanche pour ce qui est des speculatores si j’étais à leur place je me cacherai en Basse-Égypte. Leurs physiques diffèrent beaucoup du nôtre mais ils peuvent se fondre avec les Sittiu sans pour autant s’en faire des alliés. Sur ce point je ne suis pas sûr en revanche à l’heure qu’il est ils doivent sûrement avoir débuté l’Hibernation. Par Maât, durant au maximum un mois je n’aurais aucune nouvelle de ces pourritures. Dernière ombre au tableau, l’individu ayant détruit le corps, c’est soit un complice soit un nettoyeur amateur d’après son travail en revanche je pencherai plus sur un Égyptien. Cependant cette hypothèse me contrarie, les gardes n’ont trouvé personne dès leur arrivé, comment cet intrus s’est-il enfui? Aurait-il vraiment eu accès à la porte de secours? Est-ce un prince ou une princesse? J’en doute fortement ». Arrivé au rez-de-chaussé les quelques clients patientant à l’accueil commencent soudainement à se plaindre de la chaleur environnante mais déchante rapidement en voyant le colosse peinant à sortir de l’ascenseur. Lorsqu’il fixe les nobles de son regard perçant ceux-ci transpirent abondamment, la culpabilité se lit sur leur front. Tout le monde en Moyenne et surtout Haute-Égypte ont entendu parler du medjay Odion. Par chance leurs petites magouilles ne l’intéresse guère et c’est sans gêne qu’il passe devant la file d’attente afin de s’entretenir avec le responsable. Qui pourrait, et surtout oserait, le blâmer de ne pas patienter.
— Le chef de l’hôtel, je veux le voir. — Il est occupé mais oui à vos ordres, balbutie le jeune gérant. Le pauvre homme de l’accueil, suant à grosse goutte, peine à se déplacer comme si il avait oublié le chemin à suivre pour rejoindre le bureau de son chef. Sentant que l’individu ne parviendra pas à répondre à ses attentes et surtout qu’il frôle l’arrêt cardiaque, Odion déclare:
— Indique moi son bureau. Immédiatement. Tout en tremblant le jeune avance d’un pas erratique en se tenant au mur. Son esprit vacille, il pointe du doigt la porte du bureau de son chef à l’arrière de son accueil avant de s’évanouir. « Pitoyable! Incapable de supporter la lourdeur de ses fardeaux. Je vais devoir l’interroger plus tard ». Odion avance jusqu’au bureau et agrippe la poignée de la porte, malgré le verrou qu’il explose par la seule force de sa poussée un mauvais pressentiment l’accable soudainement. 2023.06.09 06:47 Mogekkk Story prediction up to Elbaf

Rest of Egghead Cut back to egghead. We get the Kuma backstory (probably God Valley) and Saturn and Kizaru arrive. Lafitte and Devon also show up on the Blackbeard ship unnoticed. The Kuma flashback ends at the same time Kuma accomplishes whatever hee doing at the red line (probably exploding himself).
Between the seraphim, Saturn, Kizaru, and 100 navy vessels, the straw hats are overwhelmed. Bonney confronts who she thinks is vegapunk, but it’s actually Devon who kidnaps her. York ends up telling Saturn about Ohara’s research being kept on Elbaf, who then kills her.
Right as the straw hats are about to completely lose, the grand fleet shows up to save them. The lower level navy ships get taken out and spread the navy out enough for the straw hats to escape. As everyone escapes, Kizaru demonstrates what an awakened logia does by completely destroying egghead, turning it into a hole in the sea where it’s permanently daytime. Luffy decides they need to go save Bonney from Blackbeard. The Straw Hats are headed to Fullalead.
Fullalead Arc The arc begins before they arrive, with Luffy handing off Vegapunk to the revolutionaries at sea (from Shaka’s call). They receive new bounties for “”kidnapping Vegapunk””, with Luffy now sitting at 3.8 billion. At Fullalead, the Blackbeard pirates have apprehended Monkey D Garp, while Coby, Perona, and Moria have escaped. Blackbeard is elated by this, as Garp is a MUCH better bargaining chip than Coby. The straw hats soon arrive, much to Blackbeard’s displeasure.
The matchups are: Luffy vs. Blackbeard Zoro vs. Shiryu Sanji vs. Pizarro Jinbei vs. Burgess Robin vs. Kuzan Franky vs. Sanjuan Wolf (sunny robot form with help from Vegapunk) Brook vs. Van Augur Bonney vs. Catarina Devon Nami vs. Lafitte Chopper vs. Doc Q/Stronger Usopp vs. Van Augur
The straw hats eventually take down all 10 titanic commanders (Robin wins via narrative with Kuzan deciding to defect and revealing his motives), followed by a harrowing and extremely destructive fight between Luffy and Blackbeard. Luffy prevails and everyone in the island is freed. Luffy decides to have Bonney join the crew. The straw hats set sail to wherever the log pose takes them next.
Back at Mariejois/Navy HQ, Akainu/the gorosei learn about Ohara’s research being left on Elbaf. Akainu is finally given permission to launch everything the navy has at Elbaf.
Elbaf arc Before they arrive, we get bounty updates. Zoro eclipses 2 billion while Sanji is at 1,999,999,999. Luffy’s full crew arrives on Elbaf. The usually introductory scenes follow, with Robin finally getting to reunite with Saul. Luffy talks with the giants about Shanks. Robin reads the poneglyph that was on Ohara, which reveals the location of the ancient weapon Uranus. It’s stated that the world government took control of it. The straw hats learn more about the lunarians from historical texts.
Soon, the full force of the navy shows up. Akainu, Kizaru, and Ryokugyu are among them (Fujitora makes up some crazy mental gymnastic reason that he can’t go because he isn’t allowed on military installations). They proceed to start devastating the island, attempting to eradicate every trace of Ohara’s texts.
The main matchups are: Luffy vs. Akainu Zoro vs. Ryokugyu Sanji vs. Kizaru Rest of crew vs. vice admirals
Ryokugyu shows that he’s every bit as strong as every other admiral, pushing zoro to his absolute limit. He has a black blade. He uses it alongside his fruit power extremely well. Zoro finally ends up turning his blades black in this fight. Zoro’s final attack consists of him cutting down an entire forest in one swing, defeating Ryokugyu in the process.
Sanji vs Kizaru begins fairly evenly matched, as Kizaru is still being lazy as usual. After Sanji lands a few hits, however, Kizaru decides to finally get serious. It seems Kizaru is too much for Sanji. Sanji ends up taking his abilities to the next absolute limit, continuing to go faster and faster so he can perceive Kizaru’s movements. The speed ends up taking a huge toll on Sanji.
They both keep getting faster and faster, until eventually Sanji prevails, using “speed is weight” to apply the properties of relativity to his combat, allowing him to move faster than Kizaru due to slight relative time dilation, nearly killing himself in the process.
Akainu is Luffy’s absolute toughest opponent, unlike anything Luffy has gone up against before. Despite not having to touch Akainu, he shows how truly powerful a logia awakening is, turning the ground to magma. This, alongside Akainu’s advanced conquerors, makes him a perfect wall for Luffy. Luffy’s ability to use flames on his attacks is used heavily in this fight.
Akainu eventually ends up almost killing one of his crew members (probably usopp) and Luffy snaps, getting the classic anime rage transformation (extremely shadowy look, flames, etc.) Luffy’s flame attacks become “like magma” similar to king, heavily implying there’s some lunarian mixed into “Nika”. Luffy shows an extreme desire to avenge ace and usopp.
Akainu’s final attack involves him shooting up towards Luffy in the sky in a massive dog form made purely from his magma. During this final struggle, we get a flashback of Akainu’s family getting killed by pirates as a child, and Akainu killing ace. Luffy ends up not just beating, but killing Akainu, launching him deep underground, upon which his magma hardens.
With that, Luffy throws a huge party on Elbaf, with usopp finally having become a brave warrior of the sea. The straw hats set sail.
Post Elbaf arc We get a bounty update. Luffy now has a bounty of 4.9 billion berries. Zoro and Sanji both cross 3 billion and are dead even. Fujitora has become the new fleet admiral, with Coby, Smoker, and someone else as admiral. The straw hats soon run into a pitch black ship surrounded by whirlpools.
The pitch black ship belongs to a former whitebeard pirate. Whitebeard had the poneglyph moved before he died so Fishman Island wouldn’t get attacked by pirates, and decided that keeping it on the water would best prevent island conflict. They give the final poneglyph to Luffy as thanks for avenging Ace, and the crew heads to laugh tale.

Before I could answer, my brother gets up from his seat, and shouts “Your little skydaddy is not real! You’ve been brainwashed! God didn’t make your meal! You did, you Christian cunt!”
At that moment, I started fuming. I yell, “Maybe if you didn’t smoke crack, you wouldn’t be a little dick with stage 2 lung cancer. My wife and I make six figures combined and own a beautiful two story house in the suburbs. Meanwhile you’re working a minimum wage job while on food stamps with no insurance to cover your broken humerus and prosthetic leg. Hello and welcome back to SAR! I have written and rewritten this post a few times now and I think I have landed on a format I am happy with. When we talk about the impact of medicine on history its important to get the context right, and I think I have found a way to talk about our topic. So what is it? No chemical is more important to the world of medicine than Opium, okay maybe Penicillin, but today we will say its Opium. Principally an analgesic (anti-pain), the Opium Poppy allowed for humans to take away pain in great degrees and further development on the natural chemicals has opened up surgery and post-op recovery. While we tend to look at the recent Opioid Epidemic as the only issue regarding Opiates, history reveals to us a very similar precursor. Also please head over to u/jtjdp post about morphine derivatives here! She does an amazing job explaining the higher level concepts of medicinal chemistry that I just wouldn’t do justice. Alright, enough quibbling, let’s get to the good stuff.

How Much do you Know About Pain?

To be alive is to feel pain, and emo sentiments aside, this is one of the biggest biological properties of the central nervous system. When you think about it, how does the body take external stimuli and allow you to recognize it? The answer is the sensory nervous system which is responsible for sensing many different types of stimuli: temperature, pressure, pain, and chemicals. These sensory neurons carry the information from the extremities and transmit it up the spinal cord into the brain for processing. From there the brain alerts you to the issue allowing you to correct whatever problem is causing the pain. Let’s take a look:

  • We call these receptors Nociceptors and activation of these neurons in the periphery leads to a signal being sent towards the spinal cord. Those peripheral nerves eventually complex with the Dorsal Horn of the spinal cord and interface with the central nervous system to transfer the pain signal. This signal is then sent Ascending to the Thalamus where the pain signal is recognized and initiates a response (such as pulling your hand away from the hot stove). But that’s not the full story, the brain also sends signals back down Descending to modify the incoming signal and dampen it. Its this modifying that makes pain fade over time when you aren’t focusing on it—otherwise the brain would be overwhelmed by the repetitive signal and continuously think injury is still happening. Now let’s divide this process into its two parts, first up the Ascending pathway.

  • As the Action Potential travels from the periphery towards the Spine it causes the influx of Calcium into the Presynaptic Neuron. This neuron is what carries the original signal to then transfer into the Spine for further traveling. Eventually we reach the Synapse where the finger-nerve and spine meet and we get the transfer of information via Neurotransmitters. In this case, two chemicals are released: Glutamate and Substance P (which literally stands for Substance Pain). Glutamate will activate two receptors (AMPA and NMDA) which are Excitatory and stimulate the continuation of the pain signal up to the brain. Substance P activates the NK1 receptor which enhances the frequency of the pain signal (the throbbing) and the intensity of the pain burst. So to simplify, Glutamate allows the signal to be passed up to the brain but depending on the strength of the original pain signal more or less Substance P is released which modulates the strength and attention-grabbing nature of it. Okay great, we sent the pain pathway up and it will get processed in multiple different parts of the brain. But the brain can’t have that signal stinging it so it must send information back down to dampen that pain signal. This is where that aforementioned Descending pathway comes in. Above you can see how the blue line reaches down out of the brain and back into the spine to turn ‘off’ the signal. This is the basis of Analgesia or pain relief.

  • Okay so now we have to divide the action of the Descending pathway which acts to dampen and modulate the original signal coming into the brain. Now, normally at rest this Descending neuron is inhibited so any fresh incoming signal is not inhibited from the get go but once that pain signal does come in, we get the good stuff! In response to pain the brain releases substances called Endorphins which activate the mu Opioid Receptor (MOR) located on the Descending pathway. Now MOR are inhibitory in nature so they are inhibiting the inhibitory resting state of neurons, or in other words, are allowing the Descending neuron to activate. And this is an important fact to recognize, Opiates do not inhibit pain, they inhibit the physiology of the nervous system that prevents modulation of the pain signal.
    • Once the inhibition is inhibited, the Descending neuron is free to release two neurotransmitters onto the nerve that was carrying the original pain signal. Both Norepinephrine and Serotonin are released to activate their respective receptors which inhibit the release of Substance P and Glutamate thus decreasing the incoming pain signal. Likewise MOR receptors are found directly on the incoming nerve and further prevent the release of Glutamate and Substance P as well as being found on the Ascending neuron preventing the activation of the NMDA/AMPA and NK1 receptors. The result: dampened incoming signal and decreased pain sense being sent to the brain.

To start our story about Opiates we need to turn to the great precursor—Opium. Opium itself is not a chemical but rather a really thick liquor (called latex) that contains a high concentration of Morphine (and some Codeine). There are 38 species of Poppy plants but only two produce Opium is great enough supply that it is worth farming them and humans have been cultivating these varieties for as long as we have known about the plants. When humans settled into Mesopotamia (near modern day Iraq), Poppies were one of the few plants grown in plots as large grain or vegetable fields (meaning that they were thought of as valuable as food). Throughout the Greek age of medicine (pre-500 BCE) through the Islamic medicinal revolution (500 BC-1500 AD), Opium was a major component of treatment, assisted suicide, and poison. In fact its through the rise of the Muslim Caliphates that we see the export of Opium to other parts of the world, especially through the Mediterranean Sea once the Crusaders return. Opium trading to the East via the silk roads was an almost continuous affair since time immemorial and Pakistan was a major growing area for the Eastern Poppy trade.
  • By the time after the Crusades (11-13th centuries), we start to see the West’s fixation on Opium. For many reasons Europe didn’t develop many psychoactive plants to the same degree as more humid/hot climates like Africa, the Middle East, and India. This is why the importation of Opium (and also Marijuana) was such a trade commodity and staple in the development of Western medicine. During the Renaissance and the revival of Greek philosophy we start to see the re-fascination with Opium and by the 1600s we see merchants importing Laudanum into Europe for recreational and medicinal use. The standard use of Tincture of Opium (which is Opium dissolved in ethanol, a DEADLY combination) was a particularly favorite preparation which was prescribed to the lowest day-worker all the way up to kings.
    • The importation and use of Opium exploded in the late 1700s once the British conquered a major Poppy growing region of India. This region (western India and most of Pakistan) was originally slated to grow cotton like the American colonies but the region wasn’t wet enough to sustain the plant—it could however grow copious fields of Poppy plants to create Opium. Throughout the 18th century the British Raj became the largest exporter of Opium to Europe and after the discovery that Mercury and Arsenic may not be safe, Opium took over their duties. By 1780 almost all major remedies incorporated the use of Opium in some capacity and with the huge supply, it was incredibly cheap.

  • Poppy wasn’t only important to the British for its medicinal properties but also to bolster the huge amount of loss they were incurring in global trade to one trade partner—China. After she made contact with China in the mid-1500s, Britain starting to import HUGE amounts of tea as the Brits became literally addicted to the substance. By 1800 a full 15% of the ENTIRE British Empire’s revenue was being spent on importing tea, that’s 30 million pounds per YEAR, leading to a massive trade deficit. This means that more money was being sent to China literally enriching a foreign country while the British public was getting their fix on the black stuff. Oh and just in case you think things haven’t changed, Britain still accounts for 42.6% of the world’s tea consumption—seriously Brits, ever heard of coffee? Anyways, all this money leaving the British economy to be spent on non-Empire sustaining commodities was a major national security risk for the British. It would be different if they were importing gunpowder like the Dutch were or Silver as the Spanish had but literally they were consuming the riches they were spending the money on.
    • Remember too that the British were not in the best position by the turn of the 19th century—they had just lost their colonies in the Americas, involvement in the Napoleonic Wars killed a generation of men, and the push to develop industries over public health led to a focus on fast growth rather than smart growth. One of the results of the Napoleonic Wars was the British occupation of the Island of Java which developed a very potent Opium which was traded with Chinese merchants regularly. Soon British merchants realized they could rebalance the trade deficit by selling Javanese Opium into China but the small island was unable to produce enough Poppies to meet the demand. So Britain turned to another one of its colonies, India.

  • India by the end of the 1700s was a bit of a challenge. The British hold on the subcontinent was firm but they couldn’t grow the cash crops they wanted. Indian cotton was nothing compared to Egyptian or Southern American (i.e. Virginia/North Carolina/Georgia) cotton and the Indian tobacco was known for being bitter. But by the 1770s the British government realized that Poppy was an easy crop to grow and the demand across the border with China was an easy market; British traders brought their cargo to small islands off the coast of China where it was sold for silver. Initially the Chinese didn’t mind the sale of Opium in their territory—when the British traders collected the silver from the sale they would almost immediately use it to buy Chinese goods, thus driving tax revenue for the Chinese government.

  • But if you buy Opium, people are going to use that Opium. By the 1810s all trade with foreigners was restricted to just one port, Canton, and slowly the city started to develop a habit for the drug. The use of mind altering substances was curtailed pretty quickly for hundreds of years in China—the Ming Dynasty banned tobacco in 1640 and the Qing banned Madak (a powdered Opium containing tobacco) was similarly banned in 1729. But by 1790 more and more Chinese citizens were becoming addicted to the substance; what started as a recreational drug slowly became a crippling addiction that took hold over Canton. For a rigid society, the crippling Opiate addiction was a moral corruption for the Qing government and forced them to curtail Opium importation in 1780 and then an outright ban in 1796.

  • Knowing just how devastating the Opium was having on the inhabitants of Canton, as well as how it spread further inland, British merchants kept peddling their drug. Older ships with larger hulls were converted into floating warehouses and parked just outside of navigable waters. Once set up, Opium smugglers would pull up, purchase the Opium and avoid any oversight by the Chinese government to prevent the sale of the drug. Following their mother country, American merchants started to sell Turkish Opium, an inferior variety, at a much cheaper rate leading to drug peddling competition with more and more tons of Opium being sent into China. This drove down the price of Opium considerably which ultimately increased the demand.
    • This demand eventually led to reversal of trade, meaning that more silver was leaving China to pay for Opium than the British were using to pay for Chinese goods. American and European traders could show up in Canton with holds full of Opium, sell it off for a profit, and then make a tidy silver profit to bring back to Europe. Likewise the importation of cheap machine-made cotton, furs, clocks, and steel into China driving down domestic profits.

Let’s Look at the Drugs a Bit

Stepping away from the history a bit, let’s introduce the Family. Okay so we understand how pain is sent to the brain and how it modulates but there is so much more to the mu Opioid Receptor and that’s not the only kind of Opioid receptor that we have. The two most clinically useful receptors are the Mu and Kappa Opioid Receptors (KOR) because they result in analgesia but there is a Delta Opioid Receptor (DOR) that is worth mentioning. The majority of the Opiates that we know and love are Mu agonists but there are some very interesting Kappa agonists that are worth mentioning as well.

  • Above is a chart that shows the binding affinities of select Opiates to the Mu receptor. The smaller the number is, the more tightly they bond. Now affinity is different than potency—potency is a measure of how much drug (in g) is required to produce the same effect. So even though morphine has a higher affinity than fentanyl, fentanyl has a MUCH more potent effect (which is why it can be so dangerous, you only need a little). Now many of the opiates cause the same effect so I want to spend more time on what makes them all so different:
  • First up we have the 5-Ring Morphinians which are derived from the natural product Morphine. These structures have 5 component parts: an aromatic benzene ring (A), a completely saturated bridge ring (B), a partially unsaturated ring with an alcohol attachment (C), a piperidine heterocycle above the rest of the structure (D) and finally a ether linkage between the top and bottom of the structure to keep it fairly rigid (E). Truthfully we are only going to focus on two locations—firstly the top alcohol (red circle) can be methylated to form Codeine, a natural Prodrug of Morphine. A Prodrug is one that is biologically inactive but goes through an initial metabolism once ingested that makes it active.

  • In fact it’s this initial metabolism of Codeine that makes it very interesting. In order for Codeine to exert any pain relief it needs to be converted to Morphine which actually exerts the desirable properties. This is done by the liver enzyme CYP2D6 which is a pretty minor pathway for Codeine—only about 10% of the Codeine is actually converted to Morphine to have some action. Because of this 2D6 dependent pathway we have to be careful about administering drugs that might inhibit the 2D6 pathway because that would mean we are preventing codeine from being active. Drugs like Fluoxetine (Prozac) and Paroxetine (Paxil) are strong 2D6 inhibitors and so if we administered Codeine to someone taking this drug they’d never get any benefit from the Codeine. In addition there are genetic/ethnic differences that pharmacists can account for such as 2D6 activity. If you are someone with very little 2D6 activity then you would also not convert Codeine to Morphine and thus get no action from the drug—this may be a reason why some people say Codeine doesn’t work for them. Another reason could be that they are Rapid Metabolizers and quickly convert the Codeine to Morphine and thus get a massive hit quickly after ingestion—in that cause you’d need a much smaller dose than another person for the same effect.

  • A different drug that is the opposite of Codeine is Hydromorphone (Dilaudid) which has a Ketone on ring C. This ketone and the lack of the double bond on this ring increases the lipophilicity of the drug and increases its ability to penetrate into the brain and thus have a greater effect. In fact Hydromorphone is 5-10x more potent than Morphine due to its greater ability to penetrate into the brain and increased receptor affinity for the mu receptor. Because the A ring OH is not capped with a methyl group, we don’t need to rely on 2D6 to metabolize Hydromorphone into an active drug form which again increases the activity of this drug compared to Codeine.
  • So combine these two structural changes—the capped OH on ring A as seen in Codeine and the increased affinity found with the ketone in Hydromorphone and we get Hydrocodone (Norco, Lorcet). Well in this case you’d get a drug that has very good affinity for the mu receptor (better than codeine) BUT is still reliant on the small 2D6 pathway for activation (worse than morphine). In this regard only about 10% of Hydrocodone is active at a time. We can see this effect in the relative doses for equivalent effect: to match the effect of 30mg of Morphine, we’d need only 7.5mg of Hydromorphone (more active) but need 200mg of Codeine (less active).

  • This brings us to our last drug of this class, Oxycodone which has a special OH group found on Ring B. What you’ll notice is that Oxycodone has that capped OH on ring A so it requires metabolism through 2D6 just like Codeine and Hydrocodone. When it is uncapped it becomes Oxymorphone which has 3 times as much effect as Morphine BUT that extra OH makes Oxycodone an exclusive Mu receptor agonist. Unlike the other drugs which may go to other receptors causing side effects (more on this later).

  • Next up I want to look at some Mu opioid receptor Antagonists or those than inhibit the function of the opioid receptor. Looking at the first two drugs, Naloxone and Naltrexone, we can see that they have the structure similar to Hydromorphone so they would have incredible brain penetration and affinity for opioid receptors BUT they contain that funky Nitrogen tail. Now normally there is a short methyl tail that is required for the function of Morphine but by adding a bulkier tail the drug is able to fit inside the receptor but prevent activation. What’s most important about these two drugs is that they have much more affinity for the receptor than other opiates. We can see this effect in the graph above: when no Naloxone is present, Fentanyl occupies the opiate receptor about 75% of the time. But as soon as Naloxone is administered that number drops swiftly (within minutes)--this is because Naloxone has a higher affinity for sitting in the receptor than Fentanyl. Think of it like the bully Naloxone coming up and pushing the poor defenseless Fentanyl off the swings so the bully can play on it (except in this instance Fentanyl is causing an overdose and we need to save someone’s life).

  • Buprenorphine is similar but it is a Partial Agonist instead of being a full antagonist. Buprenorphine is not a 5-ring Morphinian byt a 6-ring Oripavine that has a few different modifications. The biggest additions is that it has the bulky Nitrogen tail found in full Antagonists but it has this funky C ring tail which fights the antagonism. The result is a tug of war between the antagonism of the Nitrogen tail and the agonism of this new C-ring tail resulting in Partial agonism—so if you took Buprenorphine you’d notice a markedly decreased pain relieving ability but importantly there is a ceiling effect, its much harder to overdose on Buprenorphine than other full agonists. In addition in the second graph we can see that Buprenorphine has the greatest affinity for the receptor than our other agonists which prevents someone from taking a more potent opiate while taking Buprenorphine. In this case the bully is already sitting on the swing and scaring away the other kids thus preventing them from having a turn (and potentially causing an overdose). This does mean that if someone was taking a more potent drug (like Fentanyl) and then took Buprenorphine, it would cause withdrawal just like Naloxone or Naltrexone.

  • Speaking of withdrawal, let’s take a look at how that happens. Remember that the pain signal is caused by the activation of AMPA and NMDA receptors from the peripheral nerve. AMPA is a type of receptor called a G-Protein Coupled Receptor or GPCR which in this case is linked to an Excitatory G-protein which leads to the activation of the nerve. When AMPA is activated, the G-protein (Ga) activates an enzyme called Adenylate Cyclase (AC) which increases the production of pro-activity cAMP—or in simpler terms—when AMPA is activated, it leads to an increase in levels of pro-pain molecule cAMP. The Opioid receptor is also a GPCR but it is linked to an inhibitory G-protein which prevents the action of Adenylate Cyclase and thus leads to a decrease in cAMP levels. So Opiates prevent pro-pain cAMP signaling from continuing.
    • In the second graph we can see how tolerance forms. Initially (A), Adenylate Cyclase and cAMP levels are not affected by having opiates even though their ability to push along the pain signal is blocked. After a few hours, the leftover cAMP is degraded and cAMP levels start to drop significantly (B). In response to these levels going down, the activity of Adenylate Cyclase starts to increase and increase (C) which raises the level of cAMP. This rise in Adenylate Cyclase activity opposes the action of the opiate which necessitates the need for increased doses of Opiates and is why tolerance forms. As sustained inhibition of Adenylate Cyclase continues, the body upregulates Adenylate Cyclase activity to create more cAMP and to combat this we increase the dose.
    • Now what if after years of taking an Opiate we suddenly administer Naloxone, an Opiate antagonist. Well after weeks to months of taking an Opiate, the level of Adenylate Cyclase activity is WAY above baseline. When you administer the antagonist, suddenly Adenylate Cyclase is able to produce a TON of cAMP that normally is blocked which leads to a MASSIVE amount of downstream signaling. The result is intense nausea and vomiting, stomach cramps, fever, anxiety, insomnia, and cravings. Thankfully the withdrawal process ends after about 72 hours but is one of the worst experiences someone can go through which is why proper down-tapering of Opiates is extremely important.

A Change in Trade Policy

Oh, you’re still here. Neat! So by the 1820s the Qing dynasty was running into many problems regarding Opium. Firstly they needed the Opium taxes to fund their efforts to put down the White Lotus Rebellion and retain power. But after almost 30 years of trade the effects on Chinese communities could not be ignored along with local officials operating under the imperial trade department, the Hong, profiting from bribes to allow Opium. Regardless of initial efforts things were getting out of hand for the Qing government. In 1800, about 4000 chests of Opium or 560,000 pounds entered the country but by 1830 that number exploded to 20,000 chests or about 3 million pounds. But more than the amount of Opium actually entering the country was the incessant rudeness of the British government to open trade.
  • One of the “problems” for the British traders was how clamped down trade was with China. By 1800 all trade was limited to just Canton and the Hong was a strict master of trade. Foreigners were not allowed to appeal decisions made by the Hong and only Chinese traders could sell goods further inland than Canton. Traders chafed against this extreme oversight and sent hundreds of letters to the Hong requesting special dispensations which were summarily denied. Things changed significantly in 1834 when the Chinese trade was de-monopolized away from the East India Company allowing any private trader to get involved in the Eastern trade.

  • In August of 1834, the British sent Lord William John Napier to Macau as superintendent of Chinese trade with the explicit order to follow all Chinese regulations. Thinking he knows best, Napier decided that the restrictive Chinese trade system was too restrictive and sent a letter to the Viceroy of Canton. This was unheard of—NO foreign traders were allowed to speak directly with Chinese officials and the Viceroy refused to accept it. So why not double down by ordering two British ships to BOMBARD two Pearl River forts as a show of force? Luckily Napier died of Typhus almost directly after else it would have resulted in a full blown war.
  • In 1839 the Qing government appointed Lin Zexu as the Opium czar to completely eradicate the Opium trade from China. Lin banned the sale of Opium in China completely, set up rehabilitation centers for those affected by the drug, and put addicts to work to distract them while detoxing. Lin demanded that all Opium supplies must be surrendered to Qing authorities and any Chinese citizen disobeying the order would be punishable by death. He even went as far as closing the Pearl River Channel, trapping British traders in Canton and seizing their Opium warehouse stockpiles.
  • The replacement for Napier was Admiral Sir Charles Elliot who protested the seizure of the Opium stockpile but knew that they could do nothing. He ordered all Opium ships to flee and prepare for battle which caused Lin Zexu to beseige a group of traders inside a Canton warehouse. Elliot convinced the traders to cooperate with the Chinese government and surrender their stock, saying that the British government would compensate for the lost Opium (which he had no authority to do). During April and May 1839 the British (and American) traders to surrender 20,000 chests of Opium which was burned for three days outside Canton. Following the burning, trade resumed to normal except no more Opium was allowed. Like many other instances of the government removing legitimate sale of a drug, the black market increased markedly.
  • In July 1839 a new scandal rocked the British-Chinese trade system; two British sailors became drunk and beat a man death outside of his village. In response, Superintendent Elliot arrested the two men and paid compensation to the villager’s family for the loss of the man but Elliot refused to hand over the sailors to the Qing government. Lin Zexu saw this as a blatant disregard for Chinese law—afterall traders needed to understand that they can’t just come to China and violate Chinese law as they saw fit. Elliot offered to hold a trial on a British ship in front of Chinese officials to show that the men would not get off free. This incident would start the smoldering.
    • On September 4th, Elliot sent two ships to Kowloon to buy food and provisions from Chinese peasants. While approaching the harbor, three Chinese war junks gave permission to the two British ships to trade but that permission was rescinded by the commander of Kowloon fort. Elliot fumed against the slight and said that if the British were not allowed to trade by 3pm, he would fire on the fort. 3pm passed and the British opened fire on the fort causing the Chinese junks to return fire. The fighting continued for 7 hours until nightfall and Elliot had to prevent the British officers from pressing the attack, thus ending the Battle of Kowloon. Having driven off the Chinese ships, the British purchased the supplies they needed while the Kowloon commander claimed that both ships were sunk and 50 British sailors killed.
    • The reaction in Britain was about as much as you expect. Prime Minister Palmerston sent out letters to the Governor General of India to prepare marines to invade China and another letter to the Chinese Emperor telling him that Britain would send a military force. He sent a letter to Superintendent Elliot to set up a blockade on the Pearl River and capture Chusan Island. He also instructed Elliot to accomplish the following objectives:
      • Demand the respect as a British envoy from the Qing Government.
      • Secure the right for British law to be doled out on British subjects
      • Get recompense for destroyed British property, especially the illegal drugs that they destroyed
      • And most important, End the Canton System thus opening up China to free trade for the first time, ever.

I'm 24(M). Afab but transitioned FtM as a teen. I have Autism, BPD, and ADHD. I've been suffering from depression from these combined problem since I was 14, though I struggled in life before that. I never got the proper help I needed with my ADHD and ended up getting my GED after dropping out at 16. I never went to college-I don't really see the point for the average person who isn't going into a medical feild or science or academic etc. feild. I wasn't diagnosed with autism until I was 19, and by then it was too late for any intervention to help. I go through life spending so much time masking I hardly know who I am, and I have one friend outside of my mother and grandmother-my cousin. I'm single, very solitary, and thanks to the autism I severely struggle to connect with, communicate with, and even just Meet new people. I'm not the brightest. Sure, I'm self aware and have decent common sense, but when it comes to just about anything that requires a quick wit, good memory, or academic knowledge, I just don't do well. Never have, especially in school. Got my IQ tested and got a lower than average score for a below average processing speed.
My hobbies and passions can be summed up as gaming, writing, drawing, youtube, and cats. I have an okay job, above minimum wage but not very high, full time, night shifts, 40 hour work week. I have a car, its crummy but I have one. Got my license at 23. Smoke weed and drink alcohol to feel good before I go to bed at night, hide the alcohol from my family though. I'm not dependent (yet) but I know I'm heading down that slippery slope, I just can't compell myself to stop.
I never had an idea of what I wanted to be when I grew up, as a kid. After I grew out of the usual responses (I wanna be a wolf when I grow up!) it fell rapidly into a whole lot of... oh... I don't know...
I love animals. Most animal oriented careers though... don't think I've got skin tough enough for that shit, heartbreaking stuff a lot of the time. Heartwarming stuff too, but I could never handle the heartbreaking stuff. I love video games, but I just don't have the brains and skills needed to design or make them. Would never do art as a career, I wanna keep loving it-I know I'd learn to hate it if I had to do it to survive.
I'm what my cousin calls a "Pessimistic nihilist." I follow the concept that in the grand scheme of things there is no such thing as a great cosmic purpose and no inherent meaning to being alive. I know that some people honest feel better knowing that, but I guess that's where the pessimism comes in. For me, it makes it worse, honestly, because I have a hard time giving myself purpose. So the fact that, inherently, there is not purpose to life in the first place just makes it all the tougher to slog along.
I've worked retail, worked on farms, even worked taking inventory for retail companies. My current job is a pretty lazy job working night security for a coprorate building. Mostly just watching cameras, walking around, and watching TV. Pays better than any of the other jobs I've had, ironically...
I don't want to do this forever, though. I want to do something with purpose, something where I can have a house one day.
The thing is... I don't see that happening. I don't see myself as capable of having a purpose. All this time, slogging through the bullshit of life with a permanently malfunctioning brain, I'm tired. I haven't even glimpsed a sense of purpose yet, and I get it. I get that it's supposed to be 'normal at this age.' But I just don't know if I've got it in me. I'm pretty damn skeptical that theres a light at the end of my tunnel. And if there is, and it's just so far away I can't see it yet? I don't know if I have enough Go left in me to make it there. Wherever there is meant to be. A lot of people never find a purpose. I fear I'm one of them. I don't know what to do. Living in my bedroom, in my grandmother's house, lonely, isolate, depressed. I just want to go to sleep and not wake up, I'm just tired of this hopelessness. And it's almost scary, because I don't know what to do anymore. With every step I take in life, I feel further and further away from meaning something to anyone-even just myself. I want to be happy. I want to succeed. But I've worked so hard and got so... not far. I think I'm too slow. Could never keep up with my peers, socially or academically. And it's just getting worse as I get older. I lag further and further behind the people around me, I accomplish less and less, and I'm still practically a kid, as far as most older folks will tell me. And yet I'm exhausted. So I just don't know what to do.
Feels like I'm standing on a rope suspended high in there air, and I can't see anything under me. The only way off it is to jump, but if I jump I don't know where I'm gonna land. Don't know if there's a net, don't know if it'll be a leap of faith or a suicide, don't have the energy in me to walk the rope anymore, though. All turned around, too, so if I did walk that rope I could easily just end up back at square one. Or just fall off anyway.
I need help. I'm on medication, been in therapy since I was a teen. But I'm lost. Seems like it's only getting worse, even with all that help. I don't know what I need... but I need something. Cause sometimes, when I wake up... I find myself hoping there isn't a net under that metaphorical rope, and that if I jump it can just be over. I want to get better. I don't know if I can.

-Qu’il n’existe pas de chevaux « porteur »
Ces personnes sont outrées quand des commentaires le font remarquer, en traitant les gens de grossophobe, qu’il n’y connaisse rien etc (je précise que je sors les infos des tirets d’étude scientifique) et autres insultes de tout genre…
Je trouve ça horrible de casser le dos d’un pauvre animal qui n’a rien demandé pour un plaisir égoïste, et surtout ne pas reconnaître la maltraitance derrière tout ça

Hi all! I would greatly appreciate any advice or insight on my school list. With how much luck goes into getting anywhere, my list is currently 45 schools. I’m not sure if I should cut down any schools, especially if they don't take too much out of state people or if my application doesn't fit what the school is looking for. I preferably would like to stay east coast, but as you can tell by my list, I'm willing to move if I must. In terms of pre-writing secondaries, I'm going to first focus on the schools I like then move from there. Not sure if 45 schools is just way too much. Thank you in advance!

Bon les margoulins, ça va être mon premier article mais je vais pas écrire mandarin et je vais vous fournir une analyse que même The Wall Street Journal pourrait pas vous pondre. On est pas chez Yahoo Finance ici. Qui plus est, on est en période de versement des dividendes, alors selon les grands tacticiens que vous êtes vous avez sûrement un petit peu de cash à faire fructifier.
Ce sujet pourra tous vous intéresser, peu importe votre approche et vos moyens d’investissements, d’autant plus si vous êtes détenteur d’un PEA. Posons les bases:
Beaucoup utilisent les ETF pour se diversifier géographiquement et pallier à la limite des actions européennes dans leur PEA. Sachez qu’une action est considérée comme éligible au PEA à partir du moment où le siège de son entreprise est dans l’Europe des 27 ou de l’Islande, la Norvège et le Liechtenstein. Malins que vous êtes, vous savez tous que bon nombre de sociétés ont leur siège en Irlande ou au Luxembourg pour des raisons fiscales. Pour l’exemple le plus connu, Spotify peut faire partie de votre PEA. Aujourd’hui je souhaite vous donner mon analyse d’une entreprise peu connue mais éligible au PEA, j’ai nommé Signa Sports United (SSU).
Le 10 juin 2021, la société SSU signait un accord de regroupement d’entreprise avec Yucaipa Acquisition Companies (YAC). 6 mois plus tard et bien que son siège soit en Allemagne, la structure naissante de cet accord est introduite à Wall Street le 15 décembre 2021. Quelques détails sur ces deux sociétés:
SSU – C’est une société spécialisée dans la distribution de matériels de sport fondée en 2018. C’est une filiale du groupe Signa Holding, empire fondé en 2000 par le multimilliardaire autrichien René Benko. Cette holding dispose de filiales dans tous les domaines d’activités (immobilier, commerce, médias..). SSU détient plusieurs boîtes sur lesquels vous avez tous déjà commandé au moins une fois en magasin ou en ligne:
Probikeshop - Fahrrad.de - Bikester - Tennispoint - Tennispro - Tennis Express - Wiggle - Chain Reaction Cycles - Brügelmann - Addnature - Campz - Outfitter - Ballside - Stylefile - Internetstores - Midwest Sports.
YAC – Il s’agît d’une société de capital-risque fondée en 1986 par le multimilliardaire américain Ron Burkle. Pour information, c’est lui qui a racheté le Ranch Neverland de Michael Jackson pendant le Covid-19, il aurait dit au notaire “le confinement c’est pour les pauvres”. Il a plusieurs faits d’armes à son actif, mais concrètement il acquiert des entreprises en difficulté ou qui émergent dans des marchés de niches; puis avec quelques combines, des coupes budgétaires et un peu d’investissements, il en fait des plus-values. Il a acheté ou investi dans tous les domaines (franchises, librairies, compagnies aériennes..). Le bougre est même copain-copain avec l’ancien président des Etats-Unis Bill Clinton (qui avait lui-même avec sa femme des parts dans YAC).
Il a également fondé en 2010 avec Ashton Kutcher et Guy Oseary ainsi que le soutien des milliardaires David Geffen et Mark Cuban la société A-Grade Investments. Elle est également spécialisée dans le capital-risque mais uniquement pour les entreprises de la Tech. En effet, l’année 2010 marque le virage pris par Ron Burkle dans les affaires. Il s’attaque maintenant principalement aux sociétés de la Tech; son appétit se matérialisant par des prises de positions dans:
GroupMe (Microsoft) - Sommly (Yahoo) - Nest (Google) - Spotify - Uber - Airbnb - Shazam - Soundcloud – SmartThings.
Comme je vous le disais, ces deux sociétés ont signé un accord de regroupement d’entreprise le 10 juin 2021 avec en finalité une IPO prévue pour le 15 décembre 2021. La structure naissante de cette union a été valorisée à 3,2 Milliards $ et a obtenu énormément de financement, notamment juste après le SPAC où le PIPE à soulever près de 750 Millions $ pour une introduction prévue à un cours de 10,25$. Voici la répartition des parts pour les investissements initiaux:
- Familie Benko privatstiftung (fond familial de René Benko): 186 386 837 actions
- Bridgepoint Advisers (fond britannique): 24 449 937 actions
- DZ Privatbank (banque allemande): 23 449 533 actions
- SB Management (fond souverain émirien): 5 000 000 actions

Ces 10 actionnaires disposent de 76,91% des 387 577 387 actions de la société. Le reste correspond à du flottant (~100 000 000 actions). Ces investissements d’avant IPO se traduisent par des volumes conséquents que l’on retrouve sur ce graphique:

SSU fait partie d’un marché à très fort potentiel et possède tous les ans depuis sa création d’une croissance à 2 chiffres. Elle ambitionne avec son introduction en bourse et son rapprochement d’acteurs de la Tech de devenir l’Amazon du sport. Elle souhaite développer une expérience utilisateur unique avec un profil complètement personnalisé et permettant à chaque sportif selon son niveau et sa pratique d’acquérir ses équipements. A moyen terme elle veut tirer profit de tous les nouveaux canaux digitaux pour développer son portefeuille de clients (qui s’établit à 7 millions d’utilisateurs aujourd’hui).
Actuellement, 70,00% des produits de tout le catalogue SSU n’est pas disponible sur Amazon. Ce chiffre monte à 89,00% pour les vélos. Il est à noter que SSU est actuellement le N°1 mondial du tennis et du vélo ainsi que le N°1 mondial des articles de sport en ligne. Le réchauffement climatique, les subventions à l’acquisition de vélos électriques et la promotion des modes de déplacements doux ont permis à cette branche d’exploser, notamment grâce aux achats en ligne. Tendance exacerbée par le Covid-19 et les confinements à répétition.
La société est déjà capable de générer 1 Milliard de chiffre d’affaires annuel dans un marché où le top 3 cumulé (Decathlon, JD Sports et Dick’s Sporting Goods) ne représente que 7,00% du marché total. Les parts de marché disponibles sont énormes. La politique de SSU a d’ailleurs été celle de l’expansion, avec plusieurs acquisitions depuis 2018 pour grappiller des parts de marché. Elle cherche maintenant à réduire ses coûts tout en consolidant ses chiffres. L’objectif étant de garder une croissance stable tout en dégageant les premiers bénéfices dès la fin de l’exercice 2024.
Le board de la boîte est également solide, on a une équipe compétente avec des anciens étudiants d’Oxford, de Harvard Business School et des titulaires de MBA obtenus aux outre-Atlantique. L’équipe est aussi expérimentée puisque le PDG était directeur Europe de chez Ebay, le responsable stratégie du groupe vient lui aussi de chez Ebay et était l’ancien PDG de Brands4Friends, la DRH était chez Zalando et la responsable de la communication est déjà passée par BBC et CNBC).
Je ne vois que deux inconvénients potentiels à la croissance de SSU à moyen terme:
1) La récession engendrée par les derniers évènements majeurs (pandémie, guerre et hausse de l’énergie) pourrait entraîner une baisse de la consommation dans les pays développés. Mais il faut à nouveau prendre en compte le potentiel du marché du sport et la popularisation de certaines pratiques. Le déplacement à vélo et la pratique du footing ont connu un fort engouement depuis le Covid-19 pouvant annuler ces potentielles pertes.
2) La dépendance du numérique et des outils de référencement. Ce point est aussi à nuancer car les acteurs gravitant dans la sphère des actionnaires/dirigeants cités plus haut peuvent réellement apporter leur expertise dans le domaine de la Tech et du SEO.
Il faut également souligner la présence physique de près de 500 enseignes au sein de SSU. Il y a plusieurs Megastore un peu partout dans le monde.
En revanche, depuis son introduction en bourse à 10,25$, le titre dégringole et gravite actuellement autour des 3,00$, affichant -70,00%. D’après moi le titre est sous-valorisé et sa cotation est irrationnelle. Il représente une excellente opportunité de se faire des Golden Cojones, 100,00% défiscalisées grâce au PEA. En voici les raisons:
1) Le titre a dévissé depuis son IPO à cause du Covid-19 qui a invisibilisé certaines introductions en bourse de l’hiver 2021. La guerre qui s’est déclarée 2 mois plus tard massacrera les grandes places boursières et l’inflation limitera l’investissement des PP. Sans compter la hausse continue des taux directeurs qui empêche les places boursières de bien rebondir. Autrement dit, le titre a été introduit au pire moment. Il a simplement suivi la tendance générale sans émettre la moindre résistance. Une situation qui s’explique par une autre composante.
2) La deuxième composante de cette sous-valorisation est que le titre n’a aucune visibilité et n’est pas du tout liquide. On est sur un volume moyen de 30 000 titres, ce qui ne fait même pas 100 000,00$ d’échange par jour pour une société initialement évaluée à 3,2 Milliards $. Cette illiquidité est visible sur le graphique précédent.
3) J’ai aussi pu constater que quelques initiés peu scrupuleux d’outre-Atlantique (sûrement 2 ou 3, pas plus) profitent de cette illiquidité pour faire du Pump & Dump sur le titre, ce qui explique les variations brutales qu’il peut parfois subir (plusieurs journées oscillant entre 10,00% et 35,00%). Ils tirent profit de cette situation pour le moment mais celle-ci ne pourra pas perdurer une fois que le titre gagnera en visibilité, ce qui peut être une opportunité actuellement, notamment pour les adeptes de l’Intraday.
4) Tôt ou tard il y aura rétribution. On est pas sur une introduction lambda (Société de valeur > 1 Milliard $) et plusieurs acteurs majeurs ont participé à l’introduction. Ces grands fonds voudront un retour sur investissement lorsque la société atteindra une certaine vitesse de croisière; cela passera certainement par une redistribution (dividende) ou par un réinvestissement massif des bénéfices pour augmenter la valeur intrinsèque de SSU (plus-value). Ces fonds ne sont pas des associations caritatives.
Même si les redistributions n’interviennent pas immédiatement dans le rendement, c’est un paramètre à prendre en compte dans la valorisation d’une société. J’ai réalisé une projection dans ce sens afin d’y voir un peu plus clair. Je n’ai juste pas estimer la trésorerie et les dettes car l’horizon est trop important et donc incertain sur cet aspect. On sait que le rendement mondial moyen des dividendes depuis les débuts de la bourse est de 6,00%. Dans un scénario hypothétique et pessimiste de versement à 2,50% pour un cours de bourse à 13,69$ d’ici 10 ans (voir schéma), on percevrait un dividende de 0,34$. Sur le cours actuel cela nous procurerait du +11,40% de rendement via le dividende et une plus-value latente de +356,33%.

5) Lors de l’introduction, des actions ont été octroyées à tous les employés de SSU qui disposaient de 6 mois d’ancienneté sur la base d’un mois de salaire brut (~2000 employés éligibles). Cela représente entre 500 000 à 750 000 titres. Ces titres sont actuellement bloqués sur des comptes dédiés pour les raisons d’illiquidité que j’ai évoqué auparavant et seront débloqués dès lors que les volumes quotidiens seront satisfaisants.
Le déblocage de ces titres peut générer de l’attrait pour celui-ci, certains vendront, d’autres accumuleront; quelques-uns attendront. Dans tous les cas, il est fort probable que le moment venu ces employés en parlent à leur entourage et dynamisent le cours. De plus il n’est pas impossible que SSU engage une politique d’actionnariat salarié comme on peut le lire sur leur site:
