In a kitchen I can only imagine looks and feels like a 12-step group in a dusty church basement, one might think menu offerings would be crafted with both flavor and care after perusing the menu. Not so at STK. During the interview process for back of the house, one of the questions must have been, “Is mayonnaise spicy?” and those who answered yes were enthusiastically hired on the spot.
I ordered the steak frites (safe), mac and cheese, and a Caesar salad. When it arrived, I asked myself, “Am I at the Fyre Festival?” The steak was grey as a Seattle winter, the fries were cold and flaccid, I assume the Caesar was whipped up under duress given the positively haphazard assembly (how is this possible? idk), and the macaroni and cheese arrived in a rectangular brick shape that was so cold I assume the delivery driver had taken the lid off and cranked the AC out of spite.
Because we have no kitchen at the moment and the pricing led me to believe I might be served something that wouldn’t make me weep, I felt obligated to eat this culinary heartache. This food was like prison sex: necessary for survival and an unpleasant surprise. Now I feel like I just found out I’ve been cheated on. I am sick to my stomach, regret the time I invested, and embarrassed by my foolish optimism.
Fuck you, STK. You are not only the answer to “What does a breastaurant look like in the #MeToo Movement?” you are an establishment for people who wore puka shell necklaces in the late 90s/early aughts and in 2023 have a Monster energy drink decal on their back window, masquerading as an upscale steakhouse. I hate you and your January 6 style assault on my tastebuds and wallet.
Unless you hate yourself, don’t go here.
